Pink Pastels Pt 29
Tumblr media
Description: Conchata O'Hara is not a fan of you and makes this clear to Miguel, but it ends up going a little too far when she drags Gabi into it. Pt 30
“Mijo, I don’t like this.” Connie says as soon as Miguel shuts the door.
They’re in a side sitting room, the music, and chatter muffled by the thick door. His mother is wringing her hands as she stands in the middle of the room looking up at him.
He turns to face her, massaging his temples. “You don’t like what?”
“Someone new trying to come in and take Ava’s spot, it’s too fast.” She says, a concerned expression on her face.
“It’s been four years.” He deadpans, pinching the bridge of his nose as he tries to calm himself down.
He’s never been good at this, even in his original universe, in fact he was worse back there because his mother was worse. Conchata O'Hara spent most of her life after her divorce from his stepfather guilt-tripping, he and Gabriel into running to her side at any given moment. She’d fake health scares, emergencies, claim someone had tried to break in and harm her, anything to trick them into visiting her at Wellvale Home.
But here? Here Gabriel dies much earlier, here his stepfather dies under mysterious circumstances when Miguel was thirteen, here his mother stays kind for a bit longer, this universe’s Miguel is in high school when she begins to change.
Then when Miguel arrived in this universe, he pulled her out of Wellvale and put her into therapy, then a nice apartment where she could bug everyone else before she bugged him. The guilt-tripping lessened, and he found he could actually tolerate visiting her.
“But Ava is still her mother.” Connie says that same disappointed look on her face he saw in the video footage from the day Ava left this timeline’s Miguel.
He counts to ten, then back down to zero in his head. Gabriel was always much better at this than him. He had more patience, in both universes.
“She is biologically her mother, but she isn’t her mom , she made that very clear to me.” Miguel says firmly.
Connie shakes her head. “She’s seduced you, hasn’t she?”
“Y/N?” He asks, both two seconds from laughing while also slightly aroused at the idea.
Would you seduce him? Maybe he’d bring that up to you, a little roleplay? You could be the beautiful assistant that seduces her overworked boss, turns him to putty in her hands…
“Miguel.” Connie snaps.
“No, no, she has not seduced me, she’s an elementary school teacher, Mamá.” Miguel explains.
“So?”
“So? So, she’s Gabi’s teacher, and she loves her job, she would never do anything to jeopardize it.”
“Most mistresses are teachers.” She says, crossing her arms over her chest.
He knows that’s blatantly wrong.
“You would know a lot about that, wouldn’t you?” The words come out of his mouth before he can stop them, and the look on his mother’s face is like a sucker punch to the gut. “I—Mamá—I didn’t mean…I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean it.”
“Tu hijo ingrate.” She says, shaking her head in disappointment. “I did everything for you, tried so hard to raise you well, but obviously I failed.” Trsl: You ungrateful child.
“Mamá…” He reaches for her, but she takes a step back.
“I am so sorry that I was such a terrible mother that you would give up so easily, really Miguel, you would abandon the mother of your child when she came all the way here to see you and Gabi, to apologize.”
“How did you know Ava was in Nueva York?” He asks, dread filling his chest.
“She’s my daughter-in-law, and she wanted to see her baby, I told her where you and Gabi moved to.” She says it so simply, as if she hadn’t driven a stake through his heart.
Not for the first time, he feels a wave of sympathy and rage for this universe’s Miguel. “You told her where we are? After I specifically asked you not to?”
“She wanted to apologize.” She emphasizes.
“No, no she did not, Mamá. She showed up and demanded to see Gabi, she tried to seduce me, and she called my fiancée a whore in her own home, in front of Gabi. She was never intending to apologize.”
“Well, obviously your perception of her is skewed because of your new plaything.” She huffs.
“She is my fiancée, I love her, I’m in love with her, and Ava will never be allowed into my home or near my daughter again.” He says with a tone of finality as he stares down his mother.
She rolls her eyes.
“Mamá, I’m sorry, but if you can’t accept that, then you won’t be allowed to see Gabi either.” This’ll break Gabi’s heart, but a boundary has to be put into place.
This would be much easier if he could just tell his mother Ava was dead, but he can’t and he won’t.
“You would keep me from my own granddaughter? This woman really has changed you.” She tsks, tapping her fingers impatiently on her arm.
She has no idea.
“It’s for the better, can’t you just be happy for me?” He asks, both frustrated and saddened that his mother can’t look past her own desires long enough to focus on him.
She sighs and takes his hand in hers. “Miguel…of course I can. If you’re happy, then I’m happy.”
He smiles slowly. “Thank you, it means a lot to me that we have your support.”
She pats his cheek. “I’m your mother, you’ll always have my support.”
He smiles and takes a step back, turning towards the door and pulling it open. You’re bound to be worried; he’s told you a little about how much his mother loved Ava, how she blamed him for the divorce, and how she treated him and Gabriel, but he didn’t go into too heavy detail. You had been so upset on his behalf, an almost righteous fury blazing through you.
“Sin embargo, no soy la madre de esa puta.” She mumbles. Trsl: I’m not that whore’s mother, though.
Her voice is so soft, and if his hearing wasn’t enhanced, he doubts he would’ve heard what she said.
“You clearly need time to process this news, Y/N, Gabi and I will leave you alone, and you can give me a call in a few days once you’ve calmed down.”
He leaves her behind as he heads back to the table, his eyes focused on you. How you try to cover your smile with your hand when you laugh, and the way you blend so seamlessly with Monica, Brett, and Nancy, his other family.
“Papá!” Gabi calls out to him from her seat beside you.
“Are you bored of the sheep already?” He teases, as he slides into the seat beside you, an empty one on his other side.
“Oh, Miguel, maybe don’t—” You try to warn him, but it’s too late.
Gabi nods excitedly. “I want one.”
“A sheep?”
“I’ll name it Wooly, and it can sleep in my bed with me, and we can go on adventures, and maybe we can buy a farm, and then I can have lots of sheep.” She begins to ramble on and on about sheep, and he sees Monica hiding her face in Brett’s shoulder.
“Did you do this?” He asks, glaring at her from across the small square table.
Monica raises her head, her lips pressed tightly together to keep a laugh from escaping. “No?”
“Brett?” He turns his gaze on the light brown-haired man.
“You know, Miguel, they say animals are really great for children’s social development.” Brett says, giving him an apologetic smile.
“And then a goat tried to eat my dress!” The tail end of Gabi’s ramble catches his attention.
He turns back to see Gabi holding out the hem of her dress for you to see. It’s got ragged bite marks in it, and pieces of fabric missing.
“Oh no, that’s no good.” You say, smoothing out Gabi’s skirt. “Well, I guess we’ll just have to get you a new one for the next gala.”
“I’ll take you shopping, nieta.” Connie says, taking the seat next to Nancy, the conveniently empty one next to him.
Miguel shoots her a look, but she ignores him.
“Really?” Gabi asks, beaming at her grandmother.
“I’d like to come with, if you don’t mind?” You ask, giving Connie a smile.
Miguel braces himself for his mother’s response.
“How sweet, but this is a family thing, we need to find her color for her quince.” His mother’s voice is saccharine sweet, and it turns his stomach.
“But she’s six?” You question, looking to him for guidance.
“It’s never too early to find your color.” His mother says.
“Of course, but children’s favorite colors often change as they grow older, shouldn’t we let Gabi make her color decision when she gets closer to fifteen?” Miguel sees you look towards Gabi, but she’s preoccupied with trying to beat Brett in some odd competition to see who can eat their pasta faster.
“Y/N is right, Mamá, Gabi is too young to decide what color she wants, why don’t we revisit this idea when she’s a bit older?” Miguel steps in, placing a hand on your knee to comfort you.
“You’re a man, Miguel, you don’t understand how important this is.” Connie dismisses him.
“I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but he’s her father, I’m sure he does.” You say, your smile growing tight.
He adores you, you who is trying so hard to befriend his mother for the sake of his daughter.
Connie smiles at you. “Poor dear, don’t worry, no one expects you to understand.”
You blink at her, stunned. “Oh—um, I mean, I grew up visiting Texas, I’ve attended quinceañeras before, I know how important they are to the family.”
“Yes, but, attending is not the same as hosting.” Connie laughs, the sound thin and mocking.
“Connie…” Nancy says quietly, her eyes scanning the table until they land on Brett and Gabi.
“Of course not, but Gabi is important to me, so anything that’s important to her is important to me.” You try to reason, clenching and unclenching your fingers around the stem of your still full drink.
Brett reads her glance and scoops her up, carrying her back towards the petting zoo, claiming he forgot to show her something super cool and important.
“And that’s wonderful to hear, but you don’t need to worry, really no one expects you to understand how important this is, you’re not her blood, her family, after all.” Connie smiles as she says this, and Nancy hides her face in her napkin.
Rages surges through him, but you beat him to it.
“I’m sorry?” Your grip on your drink would be enough to crack it if you had his enhanced strength.
“Connie, please.” Nancy says miserably. “Don’t do this.”
“Yeah, Connie, don’t say things you can’t take back.” You seethe.
Miguel’s feels trapped, stuck between two immovable forces, you, coming in hot with a rage he’s never seen before and his mother, radiating ice-cold contempt.
“You can call me Mrs. O’Hara, only family and friends call me Connie.”
“Mamá, y/n is Gabi’s mother, she—”
“I can handle everything a mother does.” You finish his sentence, fingers tap, tap, tapping angrily on the tablecloth.
Connie shakes her head. “It’s best to leave all the important things to me, or Ava, when Miguel finally gives up this little charade. You’re not her mother, and you never will be.”
Like a woman possessed, you shoot up, drink in hand, and throw it at her, champagne splattering across her and the tablecloth before you slam the glass against the table. It shatters, glass scattering across the pristine white tablecloth. “Don’t you ever fucking say that to me again.”
Miguel moves a millisecond before you do, wrapping his arms around you when you lunge. “Y/N!”
“Don’t you ever fucking say that to me. You miserable excuse for a mother, how dare you? You think that cheating bitch is better than me? When has she done anything but lie on her back and fuck with your son and granddaughter’s head?” You scream, fighting against Miguel’s grip as he pulls you away from the table.
“Y/N, please, calm down.” He begs, his enhanced senses helping him navigate around the other tables.
Monica rushes forward and takes what remains of the broken glass from you, before scrambling back to the table.
“Gabriella is my daughter, and I will give her the best damn quinceañera this city’s ever seen, and you will have to fucking watch from outside.” You continue, until Miguel slaps a hand over your mouth and drags you outside.

Dune: Part Two (2024) review
Tumblr media
I’m fully aware that the Dune sequel has been hit by acclaim from both critics and audiences, and I shall share my own thoughts in due course, but also whilst presenting itself as a serious and sophisticated piece of artsy science fiction tackling challenging themes of religion and politics, from a marketing standpoint this film has been a major farcical meme. From the popcorn buckets shaped like suggestive sand worms (or more so accurately as deformed buttholes) to the viral TikTok video of an unnamed man riding a makeshift sand worm around a cinema lobby on his way to Arrakis, or more likely to one of the gazillion screenings of Dune: Part Two. But yes, absolutely mad bonkers advertising techniques, and not at all reflective of how seriously and straight faced the actual film plays. Anyway, let’s talk Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuneee…..
Plot: Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the universe, he must prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
Controversial opinion - I was not a fan of the first Dune. I thought it was all spectacle and no substance, and even then in regards to said spectacle, it was just sand. Lots of sand and bland dark visuals. I understand that the first movie acts as a massive exposition piece with lots of world building and introductions of all the characters and various political families and the spice trade and all that sweet jazz, but honestly it all felt so dragged out. Also a lot of narrative choices felt really immature and I did not buy it. In fact, the only memorable part for me was that female voice screaming on the music score every time something crazy happened, and my does that woman have some strong vocal pipe work! Like damn, her screams…. I really felt them!
Going into Dune: Part Two, I was very much of two mindsets. One was more so a feeling of obligation to watch it, as I wasted 3 hours of my life watching the first one that I felt I deserved some kind of closure for my efforts. The other being Denis Villeneuve. Aside from the first Dune, he’s a director that has constantly impressed me with his unique vision and style. Simply look at his past filmography! Prisoners. Enemy. Arrival. Sicario. All impressive pieces of genre filmmaking. Then there’s Blade Runner 2049, that took the classic Ridley Scott movie and managed to improve on it and become one of the most thrilling science fiction epics of the last decade. Also the trailers looked appropriately exciting, and it seemed like the second movie was actually gonna deal with some serious shit finally. Again, my problem with the first Dune wasn’t that it was slow. I mean, I can happily watch Paris, Texas any day of the week and be mesmerised by the empty yet beautiful takes of the American desert. It’s more-so that the first Dune felt aimless and messy. As for Dune: Part Two?
Well, if we’re going to use The Lord of the Rings terminology, and boy am I happy to refer to the dear-to-my-heart Middle Earth whenever I have the chance, then Dune: Part Two holds the scale of The Two Towers. I may not agree with all of it, and there are still some moments that drag, though The Two Towers is also guilty of that - I’m looking at you Treebeard! But overall this is one hell of a cinematic experience and achievement. Visually for one this is eye-candy. And yes, yet again there’s lots of sand, but this time around Villeneuve manages to find very creative ways to add/take away colour to make many sequences truly impressive. There’s an early scene where the Fremen are fighting Harkonnen goons in the desert and the entire thing is seeped in this blood orange palette, reminiscent of the Martian Chronicles, and then there’s the part where we are introduced to the Harkonnen home planet where the entire screen is drenched in hardcore intense black-and-white due to their sun only giving out white and black light, and instead of fireworks there are these watercolour stroked exploding in the sky, to of course the much talked about eye-dropping sand worm riding into battle scene that had the feel of the giant elephants appearing in The Return of the King, and yes that was another most delightful reference to Lord of the Rings! As I was saying though, the entire movie visually is certainly something to be in awe of.
Also Hans Zimmer’s score!! Of course the man’s a genius, having composed so many of cinema’s greatest musical compositions. I can recommend his Live in Prague performance! Hit after hit, and I find myself spinning it on my record player a good few times. Hans Zimmer’s Dune: Part Two soundtrack feels like a thunderously bombastic continuation and expansion of the first film’s more quiet and moody opener, and that shift in tone allows for some truly spectacular weaving of the composer’s thematic tapestry for Dune – with the finest new thread being the absolutely gorgeous love theme for Paul and Chani. A truly beautiful piece that echoes the heartbreaking tragic nature of the central romance of the film. Needless to say I’ve already pre-ordered the limited edition coloured vinyl of Dune 2’s soundtrack from Mutant (the new Mondo).
As for the narrative, as that is where I felt the first film faltered the most in my humble opinion (which I share so publicly online). I really do feel like the sequel is a major set up, for since the first one focused more on the endless word building and set-ups, this movie is all about the character developments. The scope is still big with the various political and religious elements that are tackled and explored throughout, however at the same time Dune: Part Two manages to feel more intimate compared to its predecessor, with the unravelling of the romance between Paul and Chani, but more so the inner struggles of Paul Atreides, as he tries to balance his emotions of revenge with the feeling of wanting to belong somewhere, as well as his denial of being called the so-called Messiah to the Fremen people. Look, the idea of the chosen one has been a concept that has been done over and over again, however I felt here they managed to really make it feel unique and different, with Paul choosing not to take this major responsibility due to visions of the future where he sees this choice result in darkness and dread, yet at the same time realising he has no choice but to follow his destiny and calling. It’s powerful stuff.
The cast list is stacked in this one. Timothee Chalamet is a rising star, having previously excelled his dramatic chops in Call Me by Your Name and his charismatic whimsy in last year’s Wonka, but this is by far his most impressive acting feat. You truly feel his character turning from boy to man, and it’s a real and raw performance. Zendaya shares great chemistry with him, but also in her own right gives a strong turn as a warrior Fremen conflicted with what she sees and thinks. Javier Bardem’s Stilgar adds a slice of surprising humour to the mix, being so obsessed with Paul being part of the prophecy that anything he’d do, Stilgar would find that to be part of what has been foretold. Paul Atreides could literally fart and Stilgar would observe in wonder proclaiming “as it was written”. There’s also a tiny No Country for Old Men reunion with Bardem being joined by Josh Brolin, who’s alright by the way, though it’s a typical Brolin brute role. Charlotte Rampling as the Reverend Mother continues being truly despicable and honestly that wench deserves to be put in her place - the movie’s ending is very satisfying in this regard. There’s also some newcomers to the Dune world too. Florence Pugh as the Princess reminded me a lot of Padme from Star Wars, and Christopher Walken I felt was tad miscast as the Emperor. Don’t get me wrong, Walken is a great actor, but his way of speech has been impersonated and overdone so many times that it is difficult to take him seriously in a role like this. Minus a couple of strong deliveries Walken felt really lazy here. You know who wasn’t lazy though? Austin Butler! This guy understood the assignment, playing the psychotic nutter Feyd-Rautha and he’s truly unrecognisable. Even his voice is different. Gone is Elvis and in cometh his Skarsgard impression! He’s brutal and maniacal and was honestly superb, and I wish there was more of him in this movie.
Again, it’s far from a perfect movie. There are parts still that drag, and certain times where things feel surprisingly rushed, but overall this is an experience through and through, and unlike my feelings after the first film, here I find myself really looking forward to the inevitable third part. In fact f*ck it, who am I kidding - this movie is bloody incredible!! Like I can’t even - it’s abso-fricking-lutely spectacular!! And by the way I read a bit about the Frank Herbert Dune books now and the future sequels are gonna be mad, just saying. Paul’s son becomes this half-man half-worm known as the God Emperor! Things are gonna get weird! Anyway, Dune: Part Two - go see it if you haven’t already. And in Austin Butler’s voice: “may thy knife chip and shatter”.
Overall score: 9/10

this is not to single anyone out, but i have a lot of new followers, and i would just love for you all to know... the search function on my blog is operational. if you search for epic the musical, you will find that i have dabbled in it. it is slightly annoying to be asked over and over whether i've heard of it, even by lovely, enthusiastic, friendly people.
i have another reason for not answering those questions, which is that when someone is being enthusiastic and friendly to me, i don't want to be mean to them. but if i'm going to speak from my heart as an odyssey lover, i don't think epic the musical is that good. it doesn't especially interest me as a standalone piece, but i also don't find it provides much insight on, or compelling points of comparison with, homer's odyssey. i'm glad you're all having a good time! please stop asking me about it.
bullet point review below the cut, for those who are more curious about my opinions.
things i like about epic:
astyanax's murder doesn't get brought up a lot in stories that are sympathetic to odysseus. it's optional when adapting the odyssey or the iliad, but i am definitely of the opinion that odysseus did it, and even if he didn't, he convinced the other greek leaders that it needed to be done.
the athena/odysseus duets.
i found the reframing of polyphemus' blinding compelling, where he's doing the same thing he does in the odyssey for a different reason. i also liked that the audience doesn't learn his name until he reveals it to polyphemus. that's a neat touch.
earwormy as hell.
the fanart! i saw odysseus fanart maybe 3 times a year before the troy saga dropped. i'll take that trade (for my sanity when i try to navigate the tags).
jorge seems to be invested in odysseus/penelope, which is like the bare minimum to hold my attention, but still.
anyhow jorge seems charming; all his videos and interactions with fans seem nothing but excited about what everyone can contribute. commissioning wolfy to animate a trailer? widely regarded as a great move.
things i don't like about epic:
as gutsy as i think it is to start with astyanax's murder, the main thing to me is not whether his hands physically threw the baby, but whether he is in some way responsible for it. more than that, astyanax's death isn't divinely mandated: it's a ruthlessly pragmatic preemptive strike against vengeance that the greek leaders are afraid of. it's 100% human. so framing it around zeus, known troy stan, forcing odysseus to do it and he feels so so bad about it ????????
baffling to me to start with a moral conflict about infanticide, and after committing it, odysseus is still like... maybe kindness is brave? maybe i'm not a ruthless person? please be serious. you murdered that baby.
(been talking to @littlesparklight about this but you could have started out with some version of sophocles' ajax, a death caused by the gods that odysseus actually is complicit in when he didn't necessarily want it to happen. i digress.)
don't like the way the fandom talks about astyanax, specifically, as if odysseus raising a kidnapped trojan boy whose people were destroyed and whose mother was sold into slavery in another land is ever going to be a fluffy au and meanwhile odysseus did very much murder that baby, so!
the songs are not... good. like i said, they're earwormy, but that's also because they're repetitive and predictable. the lyrics are distractingly bad at times, not only from a character perspective, but in the sense of using words wrongly or awkwardly to try to fit them into a rhyme scheme.
i like the reframing of the polyphemus episode. not so much the aeolus one. at that point, you have odysseus doing the opposite of what he did in the odyssey for opposite reasons, which makes him a character bearing no resemblance to odysseus at all.
and this happens while other characters (mostly gods) try to drag him kicking and screaming into his actual homeric characterization.
like, odysseus is haunted by the war in the odyssey, but not because he regrets what he's done as a moral injury. he chose violence on purpose. the gods did not force him to be this person. it's a narrative throughline that serves only as a bid to make odysseus more sympathetic.
... and in doing so, strips away his agency — in sacking a city, in lying and obscuring the truth with his crew (his lies are more than a quirk that endears him to athena, they have consequences!) — some might say his personality. i do have sympathy for odysseus, even at his worst moments morally, because i find his character as a whole compelling. you don't need to try to absolve him of these things! they tell you about what kind of person he is! they are evocative (and provocative) already! take them away and he is boring, because he is not choosing to do anything.
the new wave of odysseus fans seem unable to handle homeric odysseus' complicated aspects and character traits, and to a degree i blame this on the musical characterization. it's allowed to be its own thing, certainly, but now i regularly get people arguing about whether he's a good person when all they know is something epic made up and that was never the fucking point, anyway.
are we really going to pretend he didn't have sex with circe and calypso at all

Tumblr media
You like theater. I like theater. It makes sense
We would definitely watch live action musicals and plays whenever possible and you would show me the ones you like and i would show you the ones I like
Now if you were interested we would audition to shows together bc i volunteer at a local theater all the time
We would have so much fun together! Honestly you would love the theater i go to (i even run their tiktok account but it only has two videos 😢)
Going over to your house to run lines and practice songs (well i don't sing bc i am bad at singing but i would help you!!)
Sleepovers bc i stayed over too late to go home. Taking all nighters to practice scenes and watch the show
Probably also fantasizing about our dream roles together. (Its Veronica from Heathers for me but again I can't sing 😭)
And if I'm not in the show you're in, don't worry!! I'll still be there cheering you on!!
We would be menaces if ee went to the same school. Targeting everyone to come see the show
Tumblr media
convenient segue everyone 😉
If we went to the same school I imagine we would go to the gardening club together
You just have the vibes of someone who likes plants
I would complain about the weather and fret over you, making aure you're staying hydrated in the warm sun
I imagine it would be pretty empty except for us too
We're like the groundskeepers basically
Probably planting specific flowers to convey different meanings
Selling some of them during the holidays like poinciana
Getting specialized and matching gloves
Singing while we work bc music makes everything better
I would be give you all the drama and say all my judgy comments
"Then she got up and sat next to this other girl who is barely even her friend! Like hellooo, why are you ignoring me 🙄. And the bitchiest part was when she tried talking to me like normal."
And then you would be lile "amor 😨 that's pretty mean. Maybe she didn't notice?"
After gardening we would probably get a snack and eat inside the greenhouse, maybe also get a refreshing drink
I'm your younger bro to clarify then! XD
And for the record I'm sure you sound wonderful! 💚💚💚💚💚
I love theatre BUT I'm frightened of the idea of performing onstage XD
You'd have to drag me kicking and screaming to the audition
But if I WASN'T, I'd be so excited ehehe
We rarely watch movie musicals anymore because I'm always ranting about how much better the stage versions are and how they ruined it XD (unless we watch one of the good adaptations ofc like West Side Story for example)
YESS US FANTASIZING OVER DREAM ROLES TOGETHER EHEHE
Got the funny visual of you waking up in the middle of the night and waking up to me trying (and falling) to quietly sing Pierre from NPATGCO1812 to not wake you up XD
I'd love the gardening club!! :D
I keep planting carnations "BECAUSE IT'S THA HADESTOWN FLOWER, AMOR! YOU EXPECT ME TO JOIN A GARDENING CLUB AND NOT PLANT THE HADESTOWN FLOWER?" "I love your enthusiasm but that's not at all what I said-"
Ik I seem all nice and kind on here and I think I'm like that irl, but trust and believe that if your pissed, I'm gonna be pissed too XD especially I've gone through similar crap with an ex friend
"She did not!! I told you about Marissa right? She did crap JUST like that! Even try to talk to me sometimes like she wasn't being a total prick- I swear people are the worst sometimes-"
We have a little treehouse or some kinda place where we can just hang out and have fun and have an absolute ball there :)

Lazarus Ending
Hello again!
First, I need to say a huge thank you to all of you who interacted with the write-up I did the other day. I honestly was a little worried to air out my negative feelings of that afternoon, especially because the audience as a whole (mostly comprised of middle-aged white men, I have to add) reacted so positively to everything - Fern and I felt so uncomfortable by the end. So to come here afterwards and have both our fears and feelings confirmed by so many people, it was a huge comfort. And also, I kind of feel like the fandom seems to have risen from the ashes (hah) somehow, in solidarity after this? Which is just wonderful to think about. So, again - thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I'm so glad we have this little space here that we've carved out for ourselves. 💕
Now, without further ado! I will do my best to summarise what Ashely Pharoah told us the overall arc, as well as the ending, of Lazarus would have been.
Caveat 1: They didn't tell us much, because apparently they're still trying to make Lazarus happen in some shape or form - the most likely option, according to AP, is going to be a graphic novel (good luck to the artist trying to get John Simm's likeness right lol), but nothing is confirmed. Still, this meant they really didn't want to go into detail on plot points.
Caveat 2: This is going to sound mean, but: Ashley Pharoah is a terrible public speaker. He explained the ending of Lazarus, but it was pretty jumbled and disjointed, so I'm having a hard time recalling it and putting it into one cohesive summary. I will do my best!
First of all, here is an addition to the summary of the pilot, which is relevant for the ending - I didn't think to add it for my first write-up, but have since added it for better understanding of the overall plot:
[In 2024] Sam returns to the crime scene once more, convinced that rapist PC was murdered. There, he is snatched by two men (who turn out to be two of the officers who most vocally turned against Sam) and brought to a carpark somewhere. As he's dragged out of the car, his eyes are blindfolded by bandages, and the script specifically stated "like in the music video for David Bowie's Lazarus" - this is where the Lazarus iconography was the most blatant. Sam also catches glimpses of a black star throughout the episode. It is implied that the officers, including rapist PC, are all part of an organisation that whose insignia is exactly that black star. The officers threaten him not to investigate rapist PC's death any further, but when Sam finally manages to get the blindfold off, the two men are nowhere to be found. This is when Sam decides to drive back to the care home to pick up Gene and take him for a drive, in hopes that it will jog Gene's memory or the car he had an argument with.
Now, with this in mind, please do your best to recall everything you can from both LoM and A2A, because here goes:
It turns out that the Black Star is the uhh logo? Sign? Of all the "bad cops" who have escaped "bad cop hell". Meanwhile, the "Police God" or "God of Police" (I swear Ashley said those words in exactly that order, I am not joking) has decided that Gene has done a good enough job as a guardian angel and is ready to go into The Railway Arms. But Gene doesn't want to? And then Gene, Sam, Alex etc realise that, indeed, the "bad cops" have escaped from "bad cop hell", and need to be caught. Which, I think? Is what they end up doing throughout the planned two series of Lazarus? And then at the end Gene does end up going into the Railway Arms and they all have a happy boozy party, and everyone we know and love is there (Ray and Chris got a name mention). Then, as the party goes on, the camera pans to the side to reveal a boy with two differently coloured eyes and slightly snaggly teeth sitting at the piano (three guesses who that is) and starts playing "Life on Mars?". All the cops fall silent and pause to listen, because "they all know what it means". Oh, and outside of TRA we see a black woman - she is introduced in the pilot as being Sam's Chief Superintendent in 2024, I can't remember her name unfortunately, but we also meet her as a 16 year old in 1977 and I think she was meant to start out as like Gene's informant? Anyway, at the end of the show, she's stood outside of the Railway Arms, and it turns out it is now her turn to be the guardian angel of cops.
Again, apologies if I got anything wrong, I found it REALLY hard to follow what Ashley Pharoah was saying, especially because by that point I was already so mentally worn down from all the shitty stuff and the men around us having a whale of a time, and some fairly awkward "questions" from the audience. But there you go. Anyone else who was there, please feel free to add anything I forgot to mention!

Sam, I hesitated to call this a new trend without proof, but I think three movies pretty much proves it: the new thing in Hallmark-esque Christmas movies is having them based around reality tv stars' show premises. So far, there's Hilary Farr (of Love It or List It) with an interior-decorating themed movie, and both Bobby Flay and Duff Goldman have cooking-themed movies coming out.
I am filled with that kind of horrified fascination you get upon realizing that you're watching a figurative (not literal) car crash in the making.
And I'm dying to know: what kind of holiday movie does Eddie Rambler reluctantly/excitedly allow himself to be dragged into when he realizes it's the only way to keep the Flay-expy from gaining more influence over the food world?
I wonder if they're all by the same production company. That genre of film, the Hallmark/Lifetime-ish low-budget, made-in-four-weeks type, has to churn out content like crazy and there are only so many ideas in the world. It's entirely possible there's one company that's just...doing all of these because they have a pre-existing relationship with the shows they're drawing from, and it doesn't pull the star away from their life for very long. Filming on a Hallmark number is literally 4-8 weeks tops.
There was a minute there where a lot of the Hallmark films had a famous female vocalist as the lead as a way to pull people in, this might be the next wave of that kind of thing.
It would be deliciously recursive to do a Shivadh novel about a film crew making a Hallmark-type movie in Askazer-Shivadlakia, considering the entire goddamn thing originated as a Hallmark script. There is a short story I'm working on where Michaelis offhandedly mentions that they offer generous incentives for companies filming music videos or advertisements in-country; I'm sure Gregory would be pleased to welcome movie crews in the off-season. You can film cheaply and easily in Fons-Askaz from November to March or so (depending on when Passover falls), it's a gorgeous location, and it stays pretty warm year-round.
Hallmark does non-holiday movies too, so they wouldn't necessarily have to be filming a Christmas movie or one of the handful of Hanukkah movies, although the holiday movies get more attention. They could just be filming a romcom, basically (Kavan Smith, who appears to just love Hallmark movies, has played lead in a number of these, some of which have been a lot of fun). Eddie's a decent actor so I don't think it'd be hard for him to get involved, or even be the one who brought the crew there in the first place -- him or Jerry, given Jerry's connections.
Ahaha. Jerry just shows up in Parliament one day like "In my capacity as vizier, I have brokered a deal to bring Hollywood to our doorstep. It's a nefarious plan, but hear me out..."

WILT 1/8/2024
spotify//youtube
Limp Bizkit - Leech: trying to get some of my friends into lb and this is the song that sold it for at least one of them
Nirvana - Been A Son: may well be my favorite nirvana track. every single lyric is like. owwww
Daniel Johnston - Walking the Cow: i have been on my bullshit about this whole album for like a full month. trying to learn this one on the piano
Daniel Johnston - Keep Punching Joe: i like the slightly more upbeat, almost kind of bluesy feel he put into this one. it feels very character-driven and humorous while still being a... unique exploration of victimhood
Breaking Benjamin - Polyamorous: this seems like it would be soooo fun to sing live. i just love all of ben's little enunciations and syllables here, his unique voice is so dear to me bc of how long i've been listening to bb. also god forbid poly bitches do anything
Suicidal Tendencies - Suicidal Failure: have also been on my bullshit with this album. i don't really want to talk about this track though, i don't feel like getting too personal
Nirvana - Rape Me: this one also feels weird to talk about publicly. but i've been listening to a lot of in utero tracks, not necessarily the album front to back but just my favs and this is definitely up there. an infamously raw and real record at perhaps its rawest and realest
Gene Wilder - Pure Imagination: i saw the new wonka movie in theaters and was surprised to find i actually enjoyed it a good bit. that nice warm feeling led me to listen to some of the soundtrack of the original and remind myself of how much i love it. i could have easily put the scary boat song on here too
Suicidal Tendencies - Subliminal: i don't really care that much about the actual message of the song pertaining to subliminal messaging in media, i think there are other takes on that subject that have done it a lot better than mike's clumsy rambling. but i do identify immensely with just the feeling of sickening paranoia that the song captures. maybe it's not coming through the television but SOMEBODY is fucking with me. subliminally...
Daniel Johnston - I Am a Baby (In My Universe): okay i won't lie this one is kind of funny. like openly funny and ridiculous rather than the more layered playfulness of the rest of the album. oOoOoOoh i'm only 22........ i'll live forever ^_^ idk. it's still real as fuck though, i feel like a dipshit baby all the time
Kurt Cobain - Rehash: when you listen to home tapes like this, i feel like it really gives such greater dimensions to who kurt cobain was as an artist. in a way, it feels not dissimilar to something like the scrappy brilliant work of an indie pioneer like daniel johnston, which makes sense considering kurt was a fan of the guy's work. at the same time, this particular track is kind of silly and has him doing that voice that i hardly even recognize as his. i've been wanting to watch montage of heck, and this one is here as a marker of my love for the sounds of these home recordings more generally
Korn - Faget: there's a lot of discussion to be had around when it's okay for artists to use this word, but in general i tend to find that alternative artists who use it in a way that identifies with it is something i can't really be mad at. korn, and more specifically jonathan davis, is a freak show of alternative music that appealed to other freak shows. the fact that jd chose to identify himself with the word "faggot" in this song due to his experiences as an outcast and victim of bullying is at worst misguided, and i bet it made a lot of other outcasts and victims in 1994 feel seen, feel less alone. i think that's worthwhile. however it is also funny that a few years later korn would release "all in the family" which is like if someone decided to drag out the meager concept of a homophobic slur into a full album track
The Romantics - What I Like About You: was rewatching pat finnerty videos and got this stuck in my head from the bit where he talks about this song in the dani california video. not much to say except it's a tune! also goes in the file of songs that seem very fun to sing live
Metallica - Wherever I May Roam: oh yeah now we get into the rock adn roll babey 🎸🎵 i mentioned in an audio ask that i've been really indulging in the dumb rock music and 90s metallica is like the prototype for all meathead rock that followed. it's solid though, there's a reason why it got so popular. this is a good track, i really like the prechorus
Puddle Of Mudd - Blurry: possibly the dirtbaggiest of all the dirtbag rock. that's not true actually there's still shit like theory of a deadman and fuckin buckcherry and whatever, stuff that even i don't touch. but idk puddle of mudd just hits now and then with the scratchy yucky vocals and stupidass riffs and this is hands-down one of the best songs off the album. it's at least kind of about something. and ngl everything is pretty blurry nowadays
Tom Petty - Love Is A Long Road: shoutout tom. was listening to full moon fever again and realized how much of a tune this was. big chorus with the good good blend of new wave and americana rock that he always brought
Muscadine Bloodline - Me On You: with country being as big as it is right now and me trying to connect with that sort of honest and grounded feeling that rock and roll gives people, it seemed natural that i would make another attempt to properly get into country. i came across this one on a country rock playlist i was exploring and took to it because of the nice growl in the singer's voice and the rapidfire delivery of lines with some tasty internal rhymes. nothing special but it rips. i am a little wary of the "bloodline" part of these guys' band name but i looked them up and couldn't find anything that immediately sent me running? idk i hope they aren't shitheads
The Offspring - D.U.I.: the drunk driving fandom is dying, can't imagine why. discovered on the soundtrack for "i know what you did last summer" which i picked up on cd at a thrift store
3 Doors Down - Kryptonite: okay these guys actually do suck major shit. and so does this song actually. but it's on here bc i've heard it a million jillion times and have been listening to it a lot again, after watching the pat finnerty video about this. man i feel like i'm cheating on todd this month or something wtf. anyway i discovered not long ago that i've been mishearing the lyrics to this song my entire life in a pretty major way. honestly it's overdue for its own installment in my little series where i explain my misheard lyrics and the much better implications i derived from them. basically i always heard the chorus as "i'll keep you by my side, you're my superhero man/my aching kryptonite" which is WAY more words than are actually in the chorus. the singer just chews on the syllables so much that i always heard them as separate words. but i always thought it was a song about a kind of shitty guy who was trying to be better and act like a superhero for his partner who he viewed as his own super savior, as well as his weakness (kryptonite) because of how much he loved them. i thought it was a really sweet song. but it's just about a douchebag guy who acts like a douchebag to his partner who he doesn't seem to actually like very much. it's not a good song. but again, butt rock. sorry

Ooooh I am having a beauuuutiful inspiration
The kind where my pattern recognition brain just thrills at how everything's just FITTING TOGETHER
sooo! Backstory.
I have two works on Ao3 that are focused on Tron answering the Call from Alan in 1982.
"And After All"
(the Wonderwall music video. because that song IS about exactly that. don't try and change my mind)
"All the Way Home"
a ficlet about what happened in the Deleted Love Scene in Yori's quarters.
That second one is definitely just a fragment of a larger story arc. All that happens in it is:
-Yori starts touching Tron's circuits. she can tell he's horny out of his mind from The Call
-Tron stays hyperfixated on his plan to get to the Tower and relieve The Call in the proper way. Tries hard not to respond to Yori's touch, to save it for his User.
- (he does NOT last long)
-but as soon as he's gotten some relief, Alan calls him AGAIN. (dirty circuit tease.)
Soooo
I definitely plan to do at least 3 more installments in THAT storyline.
(I mean if I don't then I'm just as bad as Alan, aren't I)
And since I've already, unintentionally, started A Pattern, and begin Recognizing it--
(those titles containing the word "all")
... I OF COURSE intend to continue the pattern
Current plan for titles and outlines:
"All Over Again"
- Yori says "they haven't seen us" and then goes down that slide effortlessly. Tron, whose programmed PURPOSE requires much more agility and stealth than hers, tumbles down it like a doofus and then says "I think they saw me."
-Yori realizes Tron is... NOT at his best. that little bitch Alan is still edging him. (plus Tron has butt circuits and Yori doesn't have butt circuits, and sliding down that thing ON his butt circuits has gotta be torture if he's already that aroused)
-she drags him into a secluded corner & gets him off one more time, before they have to face Dumont
"All Together"
-but Alan STILL won't shut up! so, Tron is right on the edge AGAIN, when he reaches those steps.
-following scene is Tron's POV.... of how it feels to finally, FINALLY interface with his User in the Tower
-but there is still a language barrier there. so even though he is relieved, he can't TELL Alan everything he'd like to.
-Whatever form of communication they're using has ways to express things like "location confirmed" and "get the data I've edited into the heart of the MCP" but no words for "please go easy on the orgasm denial for a few microcycles okay"
"No Idea At All"
- The first time Alan gets lasered into the system. Tron confronts him about all this
- prompt: "ALAN-1 do you have any IDEA what you have been DOING TO ME??"
- no. No omg he had no idea
- he tries very hard to make amends
and THEN
I shall collect them into a series
Which I will title
"All-in-one"
and for a single blissful moment, my pattern recognition program brain will reach nirvana.

Everything Everywhere All At Once - And why it works so well
Tumblr media
I am so glad that the movie I was most excited to watch this Oscar season delivered on those expectations.
I find myself quite glad that this Oscar season seems to have a really diverse line-up of films nominated for best picture. From blockbuster to drama to indie films, almost every genre seems to be covered.
But there is one movie on the list that is somehow all of these genres. And that is Everything Everywhere all at Once.
I knew little about this film going in, only that it stars Michelle Yeoh, seems to have a lot of action, and was directed by the guys who made the “Turn Down for What?” music video. That last little nugget of info really explained the madness behind this movie. If you’ve seen that music video, you’ll know it is absolute chaos. But there is something somewhat satisfying and entertaining in that chaos. It feels like chaos that you can’t help but keep watching.
And that is exactly how I felt about this movie.
Everything Everywhere All At Once really manages to live up to the title. The film is pure mayhem, there is so much going on at any given moment. And yet I never got lost. I kept waiting for the moment the film would get too insane or lose all kind of narrative sense, but it never came. It kept me hooked throughout.
Like I mentioned earlier, this movie perfectly balances a number of genres: action, comedy, romance and drama, all wrapped within a seemingly insane story involving multiple universes. The movie somehow balances and executes each of these elements flawlessly.
The action is impeccably choreographed and performed, legend of the genre Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan both sold every sequence, and directors the Daniels found a way to keep each one unique and fresh, with an entertaining spin every time.
Oftentimes with genre films such as these, you’ll find that one aspect is stronger than the other, perhaps the story drags but the action is great, or vice versa. What I love about this movie is that every part of it complements the other so well. There are real, personal stories hidden within this crazy movie. Every character has motivations, tragedies they carry with them that they must deal with. It is, like many great films, about love and family, and those unrecognised dreams we all have.
But what is so great about EEAAO is that the genre elements only serve to enhance the emotional moments of the film. Only by having infinite multiverses displayed can we truly understand our characters, only by having insane action sequences can their wants and needs be truly displayed. The Daniels aren’t afraid to let their audience go from laughter to tears within a single moment, and they have figured out that perfect balance where the two only serve the other, rather than detract.
This is most certainly a movie that I enjoy and appreciate the more I think about it. The first thought I had as the credits rolled was, I have never seen anything like this. This isn’t a movie that will leave you quickly. Even if you don’t love it, it will most certainly make you think, I guarantee you will see things you have never seen before.
Michelle Yeoh really gave an incredible performance here, aside from having to balance so many different versions of herself and keeping the narrative straight, she displays a believable transformation in her character that is gradual but also believable. I truly hope she gets her dues and wins best actress this year. She more than deserves it.
I had no clue who Ke Huy Quan was before watching this movie, but oh man is he just an incredible actor. He at once masters comedy, romance and action, while also being the emotional centre of the film. I couldn’t help but adore his character and want to protect him at all costs! Quan seems to be the frontrunner for Best Supporting Actor this year and I couldn’t imagine a more deserving actor or performance.
Finally, Stephanie Hsu. Only on repeat viewing of this film can I truly appreciate what she has done here. She brings an incredible charisma and spunk to this film, while instantly being empathetic. You manage to be scared of and sad for her at the same time. She committed 1000% to this role and I am so glad she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. I can’t wait to see more of her.
Finally, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, aka the Daniels, deserve ALL the flowers they are getting for this film. While EEAAO seems to be show of madness and chaotic energy, it is in fact an exercise in restraint. It takes masterful directors and writers to make a movie like this work as well as it does. The directing duo managed to unleash their bizarre brand of storytelling on the world without overindulging. Everything done here is within reason, it all serves the narrative in some way. So while this movie may hypothesize that nothing matters, when it came to filmmaking, everything really did matter. I applaud their creative vision and commitment to delivering it to the world. It really is brilliant stuff, I am most definitely putting their previous film, Swiss Army Man on my watchlist, and keen to see what they next bestow upon us.
Aside from having a damn good title, Everything Everywhere All at Once managed to do everything, without ever doing too much, and Everyone should really give it a watch.
(apologies for puns)

Hey, opening ships was such a fun idea! I was wondering if I could have get a ship with a male character? To start off I’m short, around 5’1 with brown hair and brown eyes. Currently, I am in university where I am double majoring in government and journalism. I want to a career related to politics like writing about current events. I love to spend time with other people and just talk. Despite this I’m highly insecure that I talk too much and come off annoying but I try to deflect with humor. I like to have a ring or something to fidget with when I get anxious. For hobbies I love reading, watching tv shows, and watching videos on YouTube. My favorite book is Normal People by Sally Rooney and my favorite show besides Succession is The Good Place or Arrested Development. I enjoy long form (over an hour) content on YouTube but dislike watching movies. My favorite music artist is Taylor Swift and I primarily listen to her. But my second favorite artist is probably Joji. I also enjoy things some would consider nerdy like Star Wars and Harry Potter (I’m a Hufflepuff). When I get excited or passionate about something I begin to ramble so it would mean a lot to have someone to listen. I crave domestically but I’m not sure I would enjoy it because I like things to remain interesting. I’m sorry that this is so long. Thanks in advance :)

Hi my love! I ship you with: Roman Roy!!!
He loves your height. Roman is a pretty short guy, so having someone who is shorter than him makes him feel like he can protect you, like he can become your human shield if need be. It might not be your favorite thing in the world, but he really does think you're adorable. Plus, he has so many unused jokes it's insane. It's like he's been waiting for this moment his entire life. They get a little tired after a while, but he finds them absolutely hilarious. He also loves how driven you are. You study hard, you apply yourself, you work incredibly hard all towards a future goal. Especially in politics, it's not easy. He admires that. Roman never really had to work hard, it was all handed to him, like the rest of his siblings. Seeing you be so dedicated, so passionate, it gives him a new appreciation for what he's got and for how far you've gotten.
You love his emotions. You know he uses humor as a defensive tool, to shield himself from actually feeling what he's feeling. Whatever he might be joking about, you have a heart to heart with him when it's just you two. It's there, with you, that he can let himself fall apart, unravel. He feels for everyone around him, especially his father. It almost kills him when his father is angry or disappointed in him, something that's been ongoing his entire life. Despite what he wants others to think, Roman feels deeply about everything. He just wants to get away from it all, but is dragged back in every time. You're the one he turns to when it's too much, when he needs a shoulder to cry on.
Your relationship is complex. Gaining Roman's trust in the beginning is very difficult. It takes a long time to go from friends to something more, and even then you have to be patient for him to realize yes, you actually do love him. That it isn't some sort of trick or sick joke. No one has ever wanted to be in his company, to share a relationship with him, not in the way you do. He needs a lot of reassurance in your relationship and it's not easy to convince him that you're happy with him, that you're not playing a trick on him. He's been told his whole life that he's an inconvenience, that there's something wrong with him, that he's not deserving of love. You have to show him that none of what he has been told and believes is true.
Your first date isn't actually a date, rather you're set to interview Logan about ATN and Roman is sent to babysit you while he got ready. He makes you laugh a lot and even compliments you on your laugh. It makes him blush that you're so giggly. He finds you attractive from the start, but knows what kind of trouble he could get in coming on too strong. You end up talking for a long time, promising this is all off the record. By the end he's asked you out to dinner and has your number in his phone.
Relationship Headcanon: Roman loves to listen to you ramble. About anything and everything, it doesn't matter. The sound of your voice is soothing to him and he can't help but get excited when you're excited. You talk about the music you love, the books you've read with all the plots and characters, whatever you're into at the moment. You apologize after, realizing how long you've been going on about the same things, but he won't hear it. He loves you and all your interests. He considers himself the luckiest man to be able to hear about it.
Hope you like it! 💜💜💜

i as always am full of opinions and i have a lot of opinions about a particular first monday in may so i’ve decided to share my EXTREMELY UNQUALIFIED opinions on met gala 2023 looks
TO PREFACE! fuck vogue fuck anna wintour fuck karl lagerfeld. he did some good and mostly bad. racist, homophobic, misogynist (especially towards women of color).
TO INTRODUCE! i’m extremely bored with this theme. partly because i have zero familiarity with anything to do with fashion and that includes even super prominent designers like karl lagerfeld. partly because having the theme based on ONE designer seems like it limits the creativity and expression a bit. it’s like there’s nowhere to go. basing the theme off fashion that already exists just seems so boring! you can’t get shit like zendaya’s cinderella dress and rihanna’s egg train and blake lively’s oxidation transformation or any of the AMAZING looks from previous years with a theme that’s based on pre existing fashion. all the attendees are already boxed in. that’s my take anyways, i could be Very wrong. also i will be skipping people i don’t know unless their look is Very Bad or Very Good or I Feel Like It
TO BEGIN!
Tumblr media
rihanna & a$ap rocky
i love her lil flower egg she looks so cozy. almost looks like eva from wall-e. his look feels more campy to me but it’s honestly pretty cool and interesting and it’s better than the five million boring black suits so i like it 9/10
Tumblr media
sabrina dhowre elba & idris elba
the skirt is interesting but that’s it. the suit is a step up from boring black so i’ll give him some credit. unexceptional 3/10
Tumblr media
jenna ortega
STUNNING. INCREDIBLE. the strands of necklace? the woven look? the little half jacket? the bow? the gloves? the shoes turned to platform heels? the CORSET??? it looks like someone tore up the cinderella wicked stepmother’s dress and it looks SO SICK 1000/10 nailed it love her
Tumblr media
taika waititi
he looks like he’s playing benvolio in a production of much ado about nothing where they’ve done like a modernized 1950sish? (is that when men wore waistcoats and those pajama coats like that?) theme with the costumes and set design. and one of the sets is a bar instead of someone’s garden or something. i love it 9/10
Tumblr media
anne hathaway
QUEEN. another woven texture and i still love it. the slits are fantastic, very sexy very cool. the tits part of it makes me think of katy perry music videos and i dig that. gotta be careful though she might be stealing a $150 million necklace 9/10
Tumblr media
pedro pascal
i fucking love this look. i love the red and the coat is glorious. not to mention the shorts. like normally i’d hate that but i’m really digging it. he looks like he’s a don in a mafia movie with really obvious color imagery but it’s like, 1/4 yale boy yacht party 9/10
Tumblr media
kim kardashian
i honestly really like the arm train, it’s really beautiful and elegant. unfortunately the body part doesn’t match that vibe at all in a way that doesn’t work. also i feel like i’ve seen that exact type of dress before. not a fan. also frankly she shouldn’t have been invited back for RUINING a historical artifact. 2/10
Tumblr media
salma hayek
another red look and i dig it. i like that kind of skirt and the bodice is cool, they don’t match BUT in a way that works! it’s interesting! also i see that lil bit of lace on her leg poking through. 7/10
Tumblr media
jennifer lopez
gorgeous but a long train alone doesn’t make a look interesting. gotta give me more than that and the hat is not working for me 4/10
Tumblr media
eileen gu
a good look for a children’s ho— *i am shot in the head and die instantly and my body is dragged into an unmarked van by masked people in nondescript uniforms*
8/10

I've always been scared of fish Specifically sharks, because of watching Jaws when I was to young. I'm hoping I was 10. I think I might have been 15. I trod on a dead fish a couple of years later and it floated to the surface and stared at me. I still have a residual fear of the sea. I'm more than happy to devour fish, mind. Just don't want them to eat me.
I trained to be a journalist That was my fallback, but I couldn't take anything very seriously. I had a brief stint as "People's Journalist" for the West Sussex Gazette; I'd do golden-wedding anniversaries and pet deaths. I was always looking for an angle; it wasn't great.
I don't think I was ever confident But most of my nerves went the very first time I ever did stand-up, at university. I had about six months of failing to turn up, walking past the [venue] door; that first hurdle is a lot bigger than the others, and once I'd done it, I couldn't not do it again.
My taste in comedy hasn't really developed since then Harry Hill is still my favourite comedian. I have pretty unsophisticated tastes; I enjoy the videos on You've Been Framed a lot – I don't think there's much that's funnier than people falling over. I prefer that to Bill Hicks.
I don't like going to the theatre I can never get past there being people on stage pretending to be something else. I like a film, but I'm always aware in a theatre that I could stand up and push them off something.
I'm under no illusions: I'm not at all musical My band [the Horne Section] are very keen to tell me that. I had piano lessons for six months and got nowhere. One of the gimmicks of our show is that I slag off the band, in a warm way, but they do let me know I can't actually sing. I have a go, though.
I was quite serious about breaking the world's oldest man record And I still would like to do it – I think there's still the kudos there – but the more I learn about what I'd have to sacrifice, like not eating sausages… I think I'd like to break the record, but still eat sausages. So I'm now aiming more for 82, and I kind of want to have a lifestyle where my body will deteriorate by that age. If I'm still clinging on in my nineties, then I'll go for the record, but I don't want it enough to change my life.
I'm scared of not having a beard I was unbearded when I got married and I think that's right: I think you should look very different in your wedding photos to how you look now. I've had it for about eight years, so my children [aged four, two-and-a-half and seven months] have known me only as a bearded man. I'm worried about what's underneath – that I've either got a very weak chin or a very fat chin.
I wasn't into bird-watching until I spent a year competing with my dad He's not a twitcher, he's a birder – there's a lot of difference. Twitchers are like trainspotters, bird-watchers are connoisseurs. I'm quite proud that my bird-feeders are always full. We had siskins in the garden, and that genuinely gets me as excited as almost anything in my life.
I'd love to be a fugitive – ideally for something I hadn't done Or even just be dragged into an interrogation just for a bit of excitement. I'm by no means busy every day and I think I've been recognised as a comedian once where I live, which is ideal, as I spend a lot of time out with my children. So I'm happy as I am, but a bit of excitement, one mistaken identity, would spice it up.

Viva Las Vengeance
Yes, I admit it, I am a hug P!ATD fan and have been since the early days in 2006 when I was a 16-year old girl who had no idea who she was yet as a person. Panic!'s/Brendon's music has helped me through some of my darkest times, most recently at the end of 2018.
I'll spare all the details, but basically I was ready to give up on EVERYTHING, until my coworker - whom I'm still thanking for her help to this day - took notice of my precarious mental state and told me to take a breather, find a video or a song I liked and just come back to myself for a few minutes before continuing my work.
I quickly fell down the rabbit hole that is Panic! at the Disco's entire discography when one song in particular resonated with me so much that I managed to drag myself out of that pit of despair I was in and found my way back to the surface.
The song I'm talking about is Emperor's New Clothes, of which I now have 2 tattoos dedicated to this song. But I digress.
What has been baffling to me is the horrible backlash P!ATD's comeback album Viva Las Vengeance has been receiving. The "reviews" on here alone are such a stark contrast to how I've experienced the album so far. So I figured I'd throw in my own 2 cents and give a little review of my own.
This is purely my own opinion and I am in no way trying to disrespect anyone else's opinions just because I am a fan of the album, nut I thought I'd share. So here goes.
Viva Las Vengeance
I have to admit, I was skeptical when I first heard this song. It was unlike anything Brendon had ever done before and at first it felt like it wasn't "Panic!", but just Brendon doing a solo project.
As I listened to the song a 2nd, 3rd and 4th time I started paying more attention to the lyrics and that's where I found the essence of Panic!, of Brendon's songwriting and composing abilities that I had loved so much on Pray For The Wicked, which is one of my favorite albums ever.
I have to admit the song does give a glimpse into the rest of the album's overall theme, which is Brendon showing off his vocal chops in every which way he can. I agree with people saying it sounds like he's straining his voice too much, but if you've ever been to a live show of this band, you know that that's kind of what Brendon does and loves to do.
As an opener to the album, it's an upbeat song that gets you moving and for me it was something that got me pumped about this new direction Brendon has clearly decided to take his music in.
Middle of a Breakup
Contrary to what I've seen on here as far as opinions on the song go, this is one of my favorites on the entire album. Its uptempo beat, the guitar riffs, the lyrics... It's just a bop in my opinion. Even non-fans in my social circle say this song is amazing. I don't give a s*** about the lyrics "not making sense", I mean, have you heard Uno, Dos and Tré by Green Day? Barely any of those make any real sense lyric-wise but Billie Joe is still one of the best song writers in his field in my opinion.
All I know is that I'm gonna be dancing my little booty off when I watch him perform this song live this February.
Don't Let The Light Go Out
This is my absolute favorite on the entire album. From the very first listen to watching the accompanying video, I was hooked. I'm a sucker for a rock ballad-type song and the lyrics are right up my alley: angsty and a hint of a love story behind it.
One thing I will agree on with most of the reviews I've read on here is that the song is just a tad bit too high. While I still feel like Brendon is one of the greatest male vocalists of our time, even I think the chorus could have been sung in a slightly lower octave. We all know Brendon has an amazing vocal range, so in my opinion he has absolutely nothing to prove. I love the fact that he sings this song in his full chest voice and not in his signature falsetto. Nevertheless, I have seen a few live renditions of this song and I am still not sure whether or not he sings it fully live. From what I've noticed in these live performances, the verses and the bridge are 100% live vocals, whereas the chorus always sounds just that tad bit too "perfect". Even though I know he can hit (ridicilously) high notes in his full chest voice, I am a little skeptical about him doing it live in this particular song.
This is one thing I will be paying particular attention to when I see the band live on tour in a few months, not to criticize him for it, because I have experienced his live vocals in person up close and personal a few times, but just because I have been wracking my brain about it since the first live performance I saw of this song LOL.
Local God
Honestly my least favorite one on the album. I feel like this one doesn't really fit in with the rest... I can't explain it, I just don't vibe with this song as much as with some of the others.
As for the supposed "Ryan bashing", I honestly don't think it's that deep to be honest. Was Ryan's name the first one that came to mind when listening to this song? Yes, I'm not afraid to admit that. But I honestly don't think Brendon was trying to be malicious about anything here.
I think so many things happened during the pre-split days and possibly even after that that we are not aware of and that have not been made public for a reason. We can speculate all we want, but in the end the only people who know the full truth are the guys in the band and their team at the time.
I've only heard B's side of things - as far as he's been willing to share things about what happened - and I know that the split really hurt him. Regardless, I'm sure it hurt the others too, but because B's the only one left in the actual spotlight - figuratively speaking - he's the only one who gets heat for it because he put out a song that could possibly be about a former bandmate. This is like "Ryden" all over again and I wish everyone would just move on already.
T-Swift is most famous for her songs written about ex-lovers and former friends and nobody even bats an eye anymore. Just because we don't expect a certain thing from Brendon, doesn't mean he's not allowed to express himself through his music.
Star Spangled Banger
Good song, catchy lyrics, great melody, but sadly, with a title like this I kind of expected more of this song. I guess I was expecting more of a rockier, edgier, more uptempo song than what eventually made it onto the album.
But again, I admire Brendon for writing and releasing the music he wants to write. I love the song nonetheless, but again, with a title like that, I had definitely expected a little bit more from this track.
God Killed Rock And Roll
Total Queen vibes here. And I know what most people are thinking: "There's only one Freddie Mercury" and that is absolutely true. No one can do it like Freddie and no one ever will.
That being said, Brendon has never claimed he wanted to be the next Freddie Mercury, in fact, he reached out to Brian May (based on an article from an interview with Brian asking about Queen's influences on Panic!'s music).
Back when Panic! did their version of Bohemian, Brian gave Brendon rave reviews on his vocals and the band's rendition of the iconic song. Brendon has stated multiple times that Queen has been a massive influence on him musically ever since he was a tiny Beebo. So to me it's only natural to want to showcase those influences in his own work.
While some of the songs do heavily remind us of Queen's music, not once did I think "this is just a blatant copy of Queen". Brendon always puts his own spin on things and this track is just another example of that.
This song in my opinion is more of a banger than the song with the actual word "banger" in the title. This is another one - while I do think he's going into the high notes possibly a tad too much - that I cannot wait to witness live and in person.
Say It Louder
This to me is an anthem. I can't explain it, it's just a genuine bop to me. This song resonates with me because it's basically saying "f*** everyone who tells you you can't be yourself". It's also sending a message to the haters to just knock it off with the negativity and honestly, they couldn't say it loud enough "to the people in the back".
Sugar Soaker
Ultimate. Bop. I know it's basically just a song about sex, but what song isn't in some way, shape or form about sex these days? I' m not a huge fan of the seemingly glamorizing of alcohol and drug use and the objectification of the woman being sung about in this track, but again: it's not all that deep.
There are songs out there - a few rap songs come to mind, but also a bunch of country songs I can think of - that literally speak about women as objects to serve only one purpose which is not what I think Brendon was doing here,
It perfectly fits the overall narrative of the album that decribes the inevitable fall from grace many rockstars sadly go through and the music video perfectly portrays that.
The bit at the end of the video where the dude - I forget his name; is it Butch Walker? - goes "You're barely alive, man!" and Brendon goes "You're barely alive, f*** you" is just a perfect example of B's humor and I absolutely loved it!
Something About Maggie
This is the song that makes the least sense to me if I'm being honest. I can see most of the other songs fitting into the narrative, but this one it's hard to get a grasp on... It's an okay song in my opinion, not his best by any means, but it's a good message behind it.
I'm assuming the abusive person in the song isn't the character he's playing in the storyline of the album, but at the same time maybe it is? I'm afraid to say it because I know Brendon wouldn't do that to his romantic partner (the man is too madly in love with his wife, our goddess and queen Sarah Urie jk, jk, I'm not that obsessed with this man LOL), or any person for that matter.
I'm fully aware of the allegations that have been thrown his way and the comments and statements he's made in the past and while I am in no way making excuses for him, I do fully believe that he is not the same person he was during the time of most of those alleged allegations.
Anyway, the song is good but I wish we would have gotten music videos for the full album so we could actually put together and follow the whole narrative behind it.
Sad Clown
This. This song. The first time I heard I watched the accompanying music video and while at first I was like "da f***?", the song kicked off and it has quickly found its way into my top 3 of the album.
I love the esthetics of the video ( I love when B does any type of choreographed routine like in Ready To Go back in the day) and how they mix the old-timey royal setting with something contemporary like the random dance battle between the men and women. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Vocally, again, he hits notes I never thought were possible for a man to hit, but this time it doesn't feel forced. The high falsetto in this song is what he constantly does during live shows and it always seems to come out of him more naturally than his full chest voice does.
The "Vincero" that starts off the song is what my teachers used to call the "eyecatcher" in an essay or a presentation, or at least that's how I think of it. In fact, it caught my eye so much that I have it tattooed on my hand LOL. It's the motto I try to live by: "I shall win". No matter how hard life gets or what life throws at me, I'll always fight to come out on top.
All By Yourself
This song feels like an ode to the fans in some way. I think most of the fans, especially the ones that interacted with B on Twitch regularly, have felt or are feeling very alone what with COVID, people not understanding how one person, one celebrity, can make them feel so good and so seen, so understood and all of that.
"You can change the world, all by yourself", to me is B saying: "you are strong, you can change things all on your own, you don't need me or anyone else; all you need is YOU."
Fun fact: the way he pronounces the word "yourself" during most of the choruses sounds a LOT like the Flemish/Dutch pronunciation of the same word, which is "jezelf". That just caught my ear from the first time I heard this song. And just because I can't un-hear it anymore, I just figured I'd let you all suffer with me haha.
Do It To Death
Another favorite, albeit one that makes me sad. I feel like this is Brendon reflecting on the past 5-10 years of his life where it's been pretty much non-stop recording, touring, recording, touring and more recording and touring.
I've always been kind of afraid that he was spreading himself too thin (remember when everyone thought Brendon was dead at the end of last tour?) the past few years and this song kind of solidified for me that that fear was at least partly justified.
It does sound like the most Brendon thing to do to me: put all of himself into his craft and his performances until he literally has nothing left to give.
Do It To Death is an amazing song and I cannot wait - I know, here I go again - to see him sing this live. The visuals for the video are immaculate - as were the visuals for all the songs that got the video treatment on this album.
Overall conclusion
Overall the album - in my humble opinion - is amazing. Just like its 6 predecessors it shows Brendon's evolution, not only as a vocalist and a performer, but also as a composer and a songwriter. To me, he just keeps getting better as time goes on.
The man ages like a fine wine: gets better with age. I cannot wait to see what he does next, whether it be another Panic! album or something completely different (like, apparently being a father?!).
I do not care what all the haters say, I will always love and support this man and his music. I know it sounds like the biggest cliché in the world, but I do believe that if it weren't for my coworker/friend urging me to take that moment to myself 4 years ago, I would not be where I am right now. That is not an exaggeration, nor is it a cry for attention. It is simply the truth.
Panic!'s music has been a constant in my life for over 16 years and I do believe that it has helped me become the person I am today. I'm a long way from being "great" but I've realized that even just being "okay" is a step in the right direction.
NOTE: this post has been uniquely MY views and opinions. I do not mean to upset anyone by disagreeing with their thoughts on the album nor do I mean any disrespect to those who have decided to leave the fandom following all the drama from the past few years. I only ask that you extend me the same courtesy and even if you don't agree with my views and opinions, I ask you to please respect them the same as I do yours. Thank you for reading my first (long-winded) Tumblr post.

Hi hi! Can i request a romantic matchup for Tokyo Revengers please? :D My pronouns are she/her, i identify as a girl, im virgo, 9w1 and pansexual but I prefer to be paired with male characters. I'm 18, I love spending time alone and creating scenarios in my head, but I also don't mind spending time outside and hanging out with my friends. I don't know how to describe my personality but I'll try smwsms- I think I'm a kind and funny person, at least is how the people close to me describe me. I'm very blunt with certain things and I try to be honest; I'm not good at comforting people but I'm always happy to listen to my friends problems, and i think to be a good listener. I'm quite impulsive and goofy smwmssx, not to mention how LAZY i am lmao. I also get bored easily and I'm always daydreaming. In my free time I play video games (rhythm games/random games) or i watch YouTube videos/twitch streams/tv series, and when I'm outside I like to go shopping for clothes.
-Random info: my favourite colours are red and purple, i love dressing in good outfits, i listen to pop/jpop music but im starting to like phonk as well, i hate crowded places and i can come off as shy.
Thank you very much, i hope this amount of information is enough. Have a good day! 💛
You had already read the letter a few times, wondering just where it had come from, and who it was from. Still searching for answers, you pick it up to read it once more…
Tumblr media
Hello hello!!! Sorry about the wait, i meant to get this out sooner !! And i feel that on the day dreaming/ creating scenarios,,, i swear its the only thing that gets me through my day sometimes 😩
I think you'd pair nicely with…
chifuyu matsuno !!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"What about this one?"
You turn to look at Chifuyu, and at the pumpkin in his hands, taking a moment to look at the shape of the thing, before shaking your head slowly, "it's lopsided!"
"You said that about the last three pumpkins!" He sighs, carefully placing the pumpkin down where he had gotten it from, "what even makes a pumpkin perfect or not?"
"Simple, not too tall, not too short, a good round size, a warm orange color, and a good stem," you smile at him, and then focus on a particular pumpkin just off in the short distance behind him.
"A pumpkin is a pumpkin…." He grumbles, toeing the ground with his shoe for a moment before noticing you had already set off to grab the one in your sights.
You had originally asked him to come with you just to help pick out a good few of the things, wanting to decorate your little apartment for the holiday. But the whole patch was more of an attraction than it let on.
Earlier, you had bought two cups of warm cider, one for yourself and one for Chifuyu. Before that, you had dragged him through a corn maze, which he ended up having to find the way out of, as you got yourselves lost more than once.
The more that you did together, the more fun Chifuyu was having than he thought he would. Of course, he had come when you asked, simply because he needed to get out of the house, but also because he was hoping that it would be…a little more than just two friends hanging out.
Not that he'd say anything about it, he might be a blunt and honest guy, but when it came to his mushy feelings, he wasn't sure if he would ever have the guts to tell anyone about it, especially you.
"Hey! Are you listening? I said I found one!" You were suddenly by his side, large grin on your face while holding your prize, "now you just need one and we can finally go home!"
"I thought we were picking ones for you?"
"Yeah well, i can't let you go home empty handed, now can I?" You pause, shuffling around your pumpkin so that you're carrying it with one arm, and then with your now free hand, you take his in yours and start to pull him along.
He could feel his face heat up, even just the innocence in taking his hand in yours, to drag him somewhere, made his heart do flips.
This continued until you found him the perfect pumpkin, though not as perfect as yours of course. And now that you both had your gourds, you finally let go of his hand, and pulled out your phone.
"Let's take a picture ! We have to have something to remember this day by!"
So, you sidled up close to him, still holding the pumpkin with one arm, and held out your phone, trying to get both your faces, and pumpkins in the frame. When you had taken a few pictures, satisfied with the outcomes, he noticed you set one as your lock screen, smiling at it with content.
And for now, that was all he needed of you. He could be happy with this day, knowing that he got to spend it with you, and only you.

Some things to add to your playlist if you don't already have them !!

Probably won't move out of California. I was thinking that the desire to move came from some random desire to give up all of the good things that I have going on out here. I have friends, sex, money, everything I could need but for some reason I wasn't feeling seen. I realize now that I can use the internet to achieve things that are otherwise prohibited by my 1st/7th interception.
So at some point I'm going to curate my Instagram really nicely, but when that point be happens..I don't know. I think it'll help with my Sun in the first house issues, as it'll give me a platform to shine and show off my vitality and what not.
Mercury is pretty satisfied blogging on Tumblr, but not being seen for who I am still just sucks, it's good to finally give myself air for it. I think I need to start talking more about my daydreams on here. They basically manifest as a result of me not feeling important enough. I can't tell if real-life limitations (like no fire magic) play a role, or if I just want to be acknowledged as a wizard, but they frequently involve some type of spell casting that I do. Gravity or Fire magic is pretty consistent, and I grapple with being the most powerful but also the most loved alot in these dreams.
Tumblr media
I always imagine myself doing some type of cool firebending and I do these daydreams mostly on walks to and from various destinations all while accompanied by various songs that I like. One that stays in my rotation is Dragged by this Icelandic Deep House producer.
I imagine myself in various scenes, but one that reoccurs is some type of fall of the angels esque scene where some angels are cast out of heaven, at first it was me casting people out then it was others being cast out.
Tumblr media
This particular image comes to mind, Satan's fall from heaven. There's also various images of some type of alien abduction or holy ray from the clouds that begins the narrative where for whatever reason some Deus Ex Machina takes place where God abducts me and some other arbitrarily selected hot people from earth and our story is broadcasted onto the clouds (like a projector) for the world to see. It serves to like educate humanity of it's sins as we play through various scenarios that are metaphorical for a certain moral or ethical dilemma that humanity is going through at the time.
I typically find myself, in these scenarios, in Heaven or some paradise that runs contrast to a hellish expanse of the other characters. When the characters in hell go through a dillema, it's kind of shown that I'm their guardian angel or something and I play empowering video game battle music, particularly from Undertale/Deltarune that serves to add a greater levels of symbolism and meaning to whatever the particular characters in hell are going through.
I find that one of the characters, some effeminate Twink, is one that I typically get into disagreements with in this dream sequene. There's also a recurring character across all of my dreams which can only be described as some buff ginger who makes me think he's a champion of Ares (on account of his red hair) his name is Jackson or something
Tumblr media
Imagine a guy like this only more youthful but still relatively buff (no beard). Yeah, he recurrs alot, not sure what that's significant of but this "Jackson" character shows up a lot in my dreams.
That's all I can think of right now but that's pretty much the highlights of that particular dream sequence
