Would you have any thoughts about the Gaang in a modern au (either with or without bending), especially jobs? I legit love how there’s never been a consensus of how they’d live, especially job wise, in the fandom — except for Katara, she is absolutely a doctor, surgeon, ER badass. Personally, I love the thought of Zuko as a child protective agent, and Sokka as a high school teacher, not just for the dramatic Zukka potential lol haha either way, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Anyways to answer your question, yeah California would be a WRECK. Abandonment issues at 100 because this poor guy has terrible sense of self worth and deep down in his heart he knows Disney World is better than Disney land and it was the only thing that maybe could’ve kept Florida from leaving

Much as he hates to admit it he likes having Florida around. One, because he needs rent money and Teo because his life really is so much lonelier and boring without him. There’s nothing much to look forward to in his own life. I like their brand of codependency, it’s kind of toxic and leads to lots of misunderstandings.

The entire time Florida is gone he has so many thoughts running through his head. Nobody tells you how hard it is to know what someone’s thinking when you can’t have a face-to-face conversation. Did they really laugh at the text he sent? Does Florida get off their phone calls and sigh from relief because finally Cali’s not bothering them?? Maybe he should try contacting him less so he’ll miss him more. Oh he has all those thoughts and more.

He cries himself to sleep thinking “why oh why can’t I be alone? Why am I so reliant? I need to change” and then when he wakes up in the morning he clears his head and thinks “I was being so dramatic last night🙄” and when it hits 9pm he does it all again

Eventually Florida comes home and he’s happy cause he had a great time and he’s also happy cause he’s back home with his favorite golden state ❤️

But who’s curled up on the couch with a snotty nose and tear tracks on his cheeks?? California. And Florida has half a mind to rudely wake him up and cheer him up like nothing happened, but maybe he can’t help his concern

So he kneels and kisses Californias forehead. He grabs a tissue and wipes his face without waking him. He awkwardly scoots into the space beside California and pulls a blanket over them and falls asleep to Californias snoring

randomly thinking about pikachu's popularity as a mascot but also like in-universe imagining how many little kids would see ash and pikachu win the world championships and decide that they simply Must have a pikachu. you could take this from the angle of like, ash's championship win indirectly dramatically changes the viridian forest ecosystem and other pikachu habitats, but also, imagine how many young trainers + pikachu partners ash starts encountering on his journeys after that who are all clearly awestruck by him. i like to think he would be like "huh weird we've been battling a lot of pikachu lately" and not make the connection that this is His Impact

i'm OBSESSED with this concept and if i had more time/energy i would have immediately written a fic when you sent this because it's so funny to me but alas :p but i'm seeing this with like...all of the above implications like

ash visiting home sometime down the road and crossing paths with gary or tracey maybe, who is/are currently trying to figure out why there's a sudden influx of rattata in the viridian forest area. ash might even help them investigate a bit, you know, 'cause he's helpful like that. he doesn't get the implications. he hears "pikachu and rattata don't tend to make their homes in the same areas" and thinks the reason rattata are popping up suddenly is just that they've gotten over some territorial difference. "i mean obviously there are still pikachu in the forest - we just fought like three of them!"

so he leaves his friends at the oak laboratory absolutely flabbergasted and moves on. he keeps seeing trainers with pikachu, which is great. they ask for a battle and he obliges and it never even registers to him the starstruck look in those trainers' eyes has anything to do with him. he's just like, yeah my buddy's great, isn't he? your pikachu's great too! keep training! :)

when he hears from misty about all these new gym challengers with pikachu, he doesn't think too much about it. i mean, come on, it's a water-type gym. of course they're gonna bring an electric type. when he hears from brock that his brother said the same thing is happening in pewter city, well, that's just new trainers trying to think outside the box. forrest is probably exaggerating a bit anyway, maybe he's just embarrassed that his rock types got beaten by a pikachu? there are simply no dots to connect

of course, this isn't only happening in kanto, though. he hears from cilan about seeing more pikachu than usual in unova, a concerning trend considering pikachu aren't exactly native to the region. ash figures it's just more visitors from outside regions, like he was. it's so cool to see more people embracing inter-region travel! that's probably the one thing he does know he motivated others to do - i mean, surely being the kanto-native champion of alola would inspire a few trainers out there to tackle far-off leagues of their own? he inspired his friends to do it, so it's only fair that trainers who caught his big championship win on tv might have felt similarly!

except he's got the whole thing wrong, of course. one of his more research-oriented friends (i'm betting sophocles) has absolutely been crunching numbers and can 100% confirm that new trainers taking on the league challenge in most regions are about 20457x more likely to have a pikachu in their active roster this year than any year before. ash doesn't have a response to that one, because he's simply too baffled by the metrics of this study to digest the implications of it. he's really hung up on the idea that somehow sophocles met all these people as opposed to acknowledging the more likely scenario that he hacked into the league's database, because how would he even do that? ash isn't thinking about ethics or anything. he's just wondering how he can meet all these trainers too because he'd really like to battle them all, wow!

so basically, everyone else has figured it out...except for ash. he keeps getting approached by strangers asking him about training methods specific to pikachu, which he has no answer for other than "uhh rubber gloves don't really work i guess?" (and then ofc he'd say something very Ash about how no matter what kind of pokemon you're training you just have to believe in them etc etc) because the thing all those people don't realize is he never set out to train a pikachu in the first place. arguably, his pikachu trained him. and that pikachu? absolutely knows what's going on, and finds it hilarious. but he won't tell ash. he's having fun meeting all these different pikachu, anyway :p

First off we have Inora! 21 years old, she/her, very very gay. she has alot of religious trauma and volunteers at the local library, aria knows her from church and she has alot of history knowledge which came in pretty damn handy

Then theres Lani! Inora's (girl)friend, rip limbs off first ask questions later is her motto, she knows the group through Inora

And baby boy Eli! 14 years old, has strong cringy middleschooler energy, hes one of Arias childhood friends which is how he knows the group

Inoras emotionally constipated but its okay we still love her. Honestly shes very introverted and just wants to be left alone but when Aria came in saying "hey can i borrow every book you have about the protectors and the lume? yeah i have evidence that alot of history was a lie" suddenly she didnt mind her peace and quiet being interrupted as much

Lani and Inora are like totally in love but neither of them ever say anything about it. They should say something about it. Lani definitly ate dirt as a kid.

Eli has a crush on mathew but he never says anything about it and mathews too oblivious to pick it up on his own so instead we have Aria hinting at it ✨*jazz hands*✨ Aria thinks Eli and Mathew should date. ok so im not sure that this is articulate for ppl who aren't calendarheads like me but the jewish and islamic calendars are both calendars in which a year is 12 lunar cycles, and the difference is that the jewish calendar has leap months whereas the islamic calendar does not. so every 2/3 years, the jewish calendar actually has 13 months, and so each time there's a leap month, the jewish and islamic months become out-of-sync by one month. the jewish leap months are timed so that the calendar is in accordance with the metonic cycle (the way that the lunar and solar cycles always align in the same way they did 19 years previously). which is to say, since the jewish calendar was standardized, there have been cycles of 19 years wherein there is a leap month during the 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 19th years (sidenote—you can find what year we are in the cycle by dividing the jewish year by 19 and taking the remainder. for example, this year is 5783, and 5783/19=304r7, so it's the 7th year in the cycle, and not a leap year). but last year was the 6th year in the cycle—it was a leap year. so, it shifted the jewish calendar wrt the islamic calendar, and it put the month nissan (the month in which passover is celebrated) in alignment with the month of ramadan. this year, ramadan and nissan will stay in alignment. and next year, the 8th year in the cycle, ramadan will be in alignment with the leap month itself, which is inserted before nissan. so, it'll take 12 more jewish leap years before nissan and ramadan co-occur (if you look closely, you'll notice that it takes 33 years for 12 jewish leap years to occur, and you might recognize 33 as the number of years it takes for the islamic calendar to fully cycle around the gregorian calendar. which, of course, is not a coincidence!). as you can see, most of the gaps between leap years are 3 years long, but at the current part of the cycle, it's 2 years long. ANYWAY all this is to say that if it were a 3-year gap rn we'd be able to reuse that he is risen/he is not/he is off-limits until sunset meme for 3 years instead of just 2. sad.

Peak cinema. Pikachu and Piplup being in total sync is so nice. I love how they act pretty much as one and how that extends to their trainers. Just marvelous. Makes me miss double battles in the anime so much QwQ

I really adore the whole opening sequence in this movie. It came at a point in DP where it was really obvious how close Ash and Dawn are and they really leaned on that for this movie opening AND I EAT THAT UP

Can I gush over how much I LOVE that is Ash that starts the water fight?????? HE never does that!? He can get playful when it's pokemon, but people?? It's very rare!

It really shows how comfortable he feels with her, not a hint of fear of stepping over their bondaries or she getting angry. Compare that with the likes of how he pranked Misty in the ghost tower only because she wouldn't ever know it was him or the Anabel water fight that was started because of him playing with Corphish instead, how even in the crescelia mini arc epilogue we don't see Ash "fight back" at Goh's water attacks. Is just such a simple and effective showcase of how close they are and I love it so much.

Also I love Brock's "I know what you are" face here.
