Erosion of trust

In a very topical manner, the hero associaton finds itself in deep waters as it continues to erode the trust of everyone and everything around it.

Using AI to doctor a commercial is easy way to make your most capable heroes not trust the association in manners of commercials any longer, no matter how much the approval ratings may rise.

Not to mention sets a dangerous precedent that whatever video they may have of heroes, they're capable of using AI to doctor them as they please to project certain type of image of the heroes in question to the masses and even to the point of inciting harrassment on said hero.

Tatsumaki was understandably enraged how it violated her consent because she did not agree to become a cutesy pop-idol gal for the association and how it depicted her entire image completely wrong and faked her without her consent, rather she wanted to show the heroes what kind of grit is required to become a hero.

Between not trusting it's own heroes and tons of corruption behind the scenes, it's understated that the heroes themselves are not happy how the HA is being ran, where the donation money is going because it's not going for the heroes themselves who keep the HA going and even those outside the HA employment question their practices. Scouting others and negging your own employees is not a good way to present the association after all.

Neither is treating your employees as expendable goods who are just doing grunt work and protecting the rich people make the HA look good. What the public does not know, the heroes see plain as a day that HA does not pay it's heroes enough for the work they do and this shows up in the applicants that show up. Not even Tatsumaki who is an S-rank hero, can live in a lavish house and most of the A-rankers moved to HA headquarters just so they could afford their rent better and have more free time outside other work to have time for hero activities as HA originally was meant to allow them to do.

There is only a finite amount of people wanting to become heroes and they do not sign up to be killed by demon level monsters like Axel's teammates who met unfortunate fate, much less monthly dragon.

(Major reforms would have to be implemented indeed)

Once you lose that S-rank fighting force due to internal affairs, there's really not much the association can do against Dragon level threats which are getting more and more common, as the A-rankers are not yet quite on the level to be able to take on high level dragon monsters even as big group. Not that HA offers them any kind of training regimens or sources to improve themselves, because it only cared for the S-rankers already being good enough fighting force. But again, there is only a finite amount of people and seemingly infinite amount of monsters.

Hero association is in deep waters indeed. Donations not going towards your own fighting force means said force will eventually diminish both in ability and in quantity. When neither employees or the employers can trust each other to do their jobs well, the entire organization is ready for a collapse.

Lilly Reich

Born in 1885 in Berlin. As young adult she started to work with embroidery.

In the age of 23 she moved to Vienna where she got to know about Wiener Werkstätte (established in 1903 by painter Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffman,   and Fritz Waerndorfer - a productive cooperative of artisans).

She came back to Berlin and begun fashion design and interior design.

Plot

Discussion

This was a great read! Granted, it took me a while to get through it, but I'm glad I finished it. Jim is a tragic character- full of potential, the intelligence and reason to Mac's leadership, yet it's he who's killed in the end. Honestly, if Jim were to live, I think he would've made an excellent leader of the party.

I couldn't have read this book at a more fitting time, as the California Faculty Associaton and Teamsters union is going on strike in a couple of weeks- fighting for fair wages, so they can not only help students but support themselves. On that, I say they should go for it! I would join them if I could...

New encounter

The Darkheaven investigators team had gained quite a reputation and with it came more job offers. One chilly afternoon, the bell above the agency's door jingled, announcing a quest.

The name of the quest was Adrian Adalligate. He was a tall man, with piercing blue hair and blonde hair. His confidence was apparent as he surveyed the office, his eyes stopping on each team member and finally stopping on Ran, who he gazed.

"Good day," Adrian greeted with a sly smile, his voice a velvet murmur that sent shivers down Ran's spine. "I've heard exceptional things about your agency. I have a proposition for a particularly challenging assignment."

Alex, always the cautious one, eyed Adrian warily but maintained a professional demeanor. "Tell us more about this assignment, Mr…?"

"Pardon my rudeness" He said, while sifting his gaze to Alex. "My name is Adrian Adalligate." I'm a merchant and I'm part of the religious merchants' association called Mercator Religionis."

Adrian shifted his gaze back to Ran and leaned in. Ran felt a powerful energy coming from Adrian, what pulled him in. "There's a mansion on the outskirts, plagued by entities more malevolent than any you've encountered. I believe your unique abilities are precisely what I need."

Alex asked with growing concern, but also with a sense of excitement, "could you tell us more about the mansion?"

"This mansion has been owned by the Mercartor Religionis association for a very long time, said Adrian withouth shifting his eyes from Ran this time. Alex's cauciousness kept rising. We've been trying to maintain this historic mansion, but it has been difficult thanks to ghosts lurking around. It's mainly the poltergeist, who is lifting old paintings and precious artifacts and destroys them. We've relocated some of it, but we can't let visitors in like this so we could continue with maintaining it all and keep the history of this mansion alive. The mansion belonged to the man named Lionel Devorare who's family had live there for twelve generations. We have a lot of the mansions historic documents in the association, if you'd like to take a look at them."

"Yes, we would like to see them," said David with enthusiasm. "I've heard of your associaton before and you've worked together with the historians association before as well. I was trainee back then, but I was told stories about how you do everything meticulously."

Finally Adrian shifted his gaze from Ran and towards David. "Having someone from the historian association with us on this mission would be a great help. We are grateful to the historians association for helping us before. Having important texts restored gave us valuable information about the mansion."

David smiled. "My teacher Mr Langrin was in charge of the restorations. He was a great historian, but sadly a few years ago he passed away."

"I remember him. He was very kind and knowledgeable. It's a pity what happened to him."

David turned towards the team. "He died at an expedition, where the building they examined game crushing down and no one knows why, The building was deemed to be sturdy, even though it was old. There was an investigation and police was involved."

"I'm so sorry to hear about your teacher David." Said Ran with compassion.

"It's okay. Time has passed and though he is gone, then he lives on within the historians association. We had beautiful ceremony held for him and all of his final wishes were realized. He is at peace." Said David confidently.

David smiled at Ran and Ran smiled back. Suddenly Ran felt chill coming through his spine.

"Is everything okay." Asked Alex worriedly. "I'm okay said Ran. I just felt a chill that's all."

"I hope you don't get down with anything." Said Maria with concern.

"I really feel well. There is nothing to worry about." Said Ran reassuringly.

Adrian watched intensly the entire interaction. His gaze on Ran the entire time.

Ran finally turned to Adrian. "I'm sorry about that. We will gladly help you on your mission."

Adrien smiled at Ran and Ran was again pulled in by the energy emmiting from Adrian. "I'm very happy that you guys agree to accompany me. We in the Mercartor Religionis association will be very grateful and you will be rewarded for your time, knowledge and work greatly. I will make sure of that."

The team, enticed by the promise of a new challenge, agreed to take on the mission. Little did they know, this decision would unravel a series of events that would test not only their paranormal powers, but also the bonds that held them together.

ATL: Focus & Concentration.

Practicing focus and concentration was the main concept of todays lesson and we did that by participating in 3 games and writing down at least 10 things we are grateful for.

The first game is called "knife" and the players are required to pay close attention to the person with the "knife" (obviously its not a real knife, its just a hand motion suggesting the presence of it). The assassin (person with the "knife") has to throw it at a randomly chosen player, attempting to kick the player out of the game. To save themselves the player has to catch the imaginary knife and throw it at another player, starting a cycle. The kicked out players turn in to juries and they are responsible for picking people they think did not catch the knife in time. The game ends once there are two players left.

The next game we played was composed of multiple parts, starting with mathematical expressions/associations. Each player had to announce a phrase or an item/person they think relates to math. Then, we had to go around and repeat our word in the same order a few rounds. The difficulty then increases when players started walking around in random direction, still saying their phrases out loud. The goal is to continue going in the correct order. Next we had to do the same thing with naming animals and passing a stick. The last step was when all the associations had to be spoken out loud and the stick was passed around in correct order. The game relies on focus and concentration greatly because to maintain „harmony” and remembering the order of the three subjects required players to stay focused and listen to others.

The last game we played was also based on associations. The game master picks two random words and the players’ task is to think of and later announce their associaton to the words given. Once the association appears, the player should rise their hand and wait for one more person to do so too. Once two hands appear in the air, the two players say their association out loud. Those two words become the new subject and the players look for associations to the two words, creating a cycle. The game ends once both chosen people announce the same association.

Overall, the lesson was a nice change since other classed are mostly based on making notes rather than learning by experiancing and was a refreshing end of the school day, leaving me more energized and confident in my ability to focus.

I forgot to add it but the Fell kids all have different response to trauma.

Past Alear was literaly broken, they speak in hiragana only showing they were broken at a very young age and since hiragana has less polysemy then kanji, this makes their language and expression even more devoided, empty, simple and "on the nose" showing they really can't feel anything or can't show it. While their Fell heritage is something they actually accept, they still hold a lot of negative memory from their past life and kind of associate their past action with being a fell dragon which they consider to be an hindrance to their dream of being a hero and to look upon it with rather sad and dark point of view like how they have nightmare about it, or when they dream of their first death for the first time, they mistook their smile to Lumera for an evil smirk.

Veyle however craves for affection and frienships, she constantly tries to befriend people or find a way to fill the void in her life such as her support with Hortensia or Nel where she tries to tie with them and much like Alear has problem with being a Fell dragon but where Alear does due to the negative associaton of the sins they committed at that time and how it prevents them from reaching their dreams, Veyle does hate being a Fell dragon because of her fell heritage since it cause her mother to be killed, her to be persecuted and hated. Sombron himself is aware of that as he mention in chapter 18 how Veyle rejects her legitimate apperance, which she does since she got rid of her dragonstone and she disliked being remember about how the Fell followers were trying to worship her as well. Her loneliness is the main reason why she seeks a subsititue for her missing family such as her attempt to get accepted by Sombron even if to honor her mother, she wasn't affraid to openly defy him or how she approached Nel with that same mindest.

Nel on the other hands is very very traumatized by the constant hostility in her own family that even leaded her to have to kill her own siblings to protect Nil/Rafal to the point the only person she deems trusthworthy and is confortable calling her sibling is Rafal. Her support with Veyle never cease to fascinate me. Even though she hails from a world where she is half sibling with Veyle, she rejects Veyle's offer that is also showing Veyle's craving for having siblings/family. This really shows she is not confortable with treating other as a family member and I think that if Nel had meet her version of Veyle or was close to her, she would probably never have accepted Veyle's offer as it would have been even more awkward for her. This doesn't means Nel can't be friendly since she proposed that to Veyle as an alternative. And I think the reason why she was so unconfortable was also because Veyle brought Sombron into the conversation. We know that Veyle, despite having mixed feelings for Sombron still views him as family, and while she isn't supposed to have partake into the DLC campain since it supposed to happen before chapter 20 so before you can recruit her, I think it would still make sense that she'd viewed any version of Sombron as family (but to be fair Xenobron is still her dad's double in Nel and Rafal's world). But Nel on the other hand, much like Alear, never calls him father, or very, very rarely do so since she wants to distance himself from him because of what he represents and it's only in the A support, where Sombron is never brough up againt but where Veyle would rather talk about bonding that Nel feels more at ease with the idea.

If you compare it to how natural Veyle and Alear are bounding as sibling I think it's even more obvious.

Nel also has trouble showing her caring side. She never told Isekai Lu that she was in love with them, she acts cold at first and even in her support chain with Alear they are surprised to learn Nel actually values them as a dear friend.

And Rafal has to be the most "antisocial" of them all since he only approaches people he wants to atone to and rejects Alfred, Gregory and Alear's friendly approaches at first. He constantly pretend not to have changed because of how he feel he doesn't deserves affection nor forgivness and constantly put his life at risk like in his support with Nel or his solo ending. And what I said about Nel having trouble showing her caring side, well Rafal is even worse in that reguard. It took the A support for Gregory to actually pierce through his facade and for him and Alfred to bound. With Alear, when he speaks of Nel he drops the facade much quickly and their A support is dedicated to this with tsundere mode going full board as he lies about having being forced to make those sweets for Alear since he would rather die then admit he made them for Alear to thank them and lies another times about not making anymore of those since if you reach A support with him, he will tries to sneaks bundle of sweets under Alear's pillow. This is partly due to his pride but also to having being raised with the mentality that if he acted too sweets he would be killed right away which he will mention in his S support with Alear, which is something since Alear too had to repress themselves in that sense. And while he is very prideful at first, he, much like Alear, associate being a Fell dragon to a live of sins since he deems himself impure and Alear will also mentions how they used to have commited sins since they fought by Sombron's camp.

So while Alear and Veyle craves for friendship and family bound, the Twins seems to be more hostile in making connections.
