My summer semester has finally ended and currently waiting for qualifying exam. I've cleaned up and want to share with you my desk setup. Trust me I have been trying to keep it minimal, and look where it got me ha.
Ps. I am thankful for the messages you sent me, I'm truly sorry if I did not respond. But I read them all ♡

13&14 July 2021 - logging 2nd and 3rd day of a productive week
Today was a good reading day! I finally finished a book that was taking me AGES to finish, and I got through a bit more reading after that. I’m feeling optimistic and I know that my mental health is improving a lot. So far I’ve been successful at keeping true to the goals I’ve set myself for this week. I’ve finished 2 sections of Turkish and will be starting a new one tomorrow. I’m being consistent with the Pomodoro Timer. Things are going fine ~
✨ 2021 Summer Studying Challenge! ✨ Days 5-8
5th July - Do you have any special plans or activities for this summer?
Not at the moment, sadly. My boyfriend was originally planning to come visit in early august but he just started a new job (sad I have to wait longer, but super excited that he got an amazing job offer in his new career!) so nothing solid at the moment, maybe a weekend getaway at some point.
6th July - What do you usually do during the summer? Is anything different this year?
So...... time is all a blur in grad school lol. Since I started in fall of 2018 I haven’t really had a ‘summer vacation’. All I really do is maybe allow more time to sleep and watch Turkish series... occasionally...
7th July - What did you do during the summer when you were a young child?
I grew up in Florida, so Disney World was pretty much our summer home when we had the means to go :D
8th July - What’s your happiest summer memory from your childhood?
Is it bad that I don’t recall too many childhood memories? XD hm... I would say maybe when I went to Minnesota with my mom because I got to see a new place and it was beautiful. Haven’t been to too many places outside of Florida, sadly.
Off to bed now ~

a gentle reminder that you just need to make things a tiny bit better for your future self. reading one page, writing one sentence, getting half of a task done, it’s still good.

so I guess my 100 days of productivity are long over. I may have fell off the wagon with posting but it went extremely well. Still, I continue to learn everyday, just in smaller bouts, reviewing anki and watching Farsi videos, but it was an awesome exercise in diligence. I start grad school in a few weeks so hopefully I can transition this diligence into practice for school again. For now, I’ve been focusing on journaling. I do entries in French every now and again. I’ll endeavour to write an entry in Farsi sometime.

12 July 2021 - "Your current story: How's your life?"
Today is Monday. It’s been a tough year, so productivity levels have been pretty low. I’m challenging myself to value the productive brain time that I am able to get in a day. I’ve been using the Pomodoro Timer to help me with focus, and it’s really been a good method for me. My goal is to have at least one session of productive brain time ever day for a week. Then I’ll keep adding to my goals and push forward!
On that note, it was a good first day! I got through more productive time than I thought I would and was able to get through some of my last assignments for my research methods course. I also finally re-started reviewing Turkish! The plan is to spend at least 25 minutes on it every day, and add 25 minutes of Arabic once I’m comfortable with the habit.
Also - I’m a bit late to the game but I saw @myhoneststudyblr ‘s challenge and thought it was a perfect chance to keep myself accountable! So I’ll be writing some catch-up prompts below.
—————————————————————-
✨ 2021 Summer Studying Challenge! ✨
1st July - What are your plans for this summer?
Work on being nicer to myself
Value any productive time I have during difficult moments
Complete pending work for 2 courses
Possibly plan a short getaway with my mom
make daily language studying a habit
2nd July - Do you have a specific goal for this summer?
My specific goal is really to get through the remaining work I have for two incomplete courses. It’ll get me closer to having a new slate in this grad program and for the next state: preparing for comprehensive exam prep. I’m soooo ready to get passed this traumatic experience, lol.
3rd July - Do you have a lot of work to do for school, university or your job this summer?
YES. For the summer A semester I TA’ed for a class that had 150 students in it... it was a time, but sadly the norm for the academic center I work for. Thankfully it is summer B now and all it seems I’ll do is to help the professor with ideas to revamp her class for the fall. In terms of school, I wrote a bit about that above. Long story short - I have a lot of work to catch up with.
4th July - What is the most important task that you need to complete this summer?
FINISH THE INCOMPLETEِS 😆

Be kind to yourself, always. Part of this is in how you speak to yourself and in allowing yourself the time to do the things/ spend time with the people you enjoy.
it’s the smallest habits. how you spend your mornings. how you talk to yourself. what you read. what you watch. who you share your energy with. who has access to you. that will change your life.

About Plagiarism in the Studyblr Community
So here’s the thing.
It takes, like, no effort to take a photo of your desk, of your notes. At the end of the day, that takes like thirty seconds and a few minutes in VSCO.
But by stealing somebody else’s photo, and reposting it and claiming it as your own, what you’re doing is negating the context of the photo. The hours of hard work it took to write that essay, or make that mind-map, or to tick every last item off that bullet journal to-do list. You’re denying people - whose story, whose strife, you don’t know - that little bit of pride and satisfaction that comes from somebody else acknowledging their hard work with a reblog or like. You can’t tell, with just a photo, that the poster overcame a panic attack in the morning to kick ass and finish that giant stack of reading, or that someone going through a really bad breakup still managed to drag himself out of bed and force himself to work.
At the end of the day, a photo’s a photo. And while technically it’s theft, in the grand scheme of things it means fuck all. But what angers me is somebody else having the audacity to trivialise the actual blood, sweat and tears that went into making the photo happen. This community is supposed to be about supporting one another, applauding each other’s achievements (whether that’s a fantastic grade or just getting out of bed), and encouraging a nurturing environment where people want to share their hard work. But by stealing photos, you’re doing none of those things. You’re denying someone who has worked their ass off that little bit of credit, in the form of a like or reblog, that they deserve. You’re turning a community about support and admiration into a popularity contest you can’t even be bothered enough to contribute to, so you just steal someone else’s work.
I can’t even wrap my head around what photo thieves get from the reblogs, likes and followers that result from posting a stolen photo - how can you get any validation knowing full well you didn’t work at all for that photo? The very satisfaction of notes comes from the fact you worked hard for that photo, surely? So no, I can’t comprehend how sad and empty someone’s life must be if acknowledgement of someone else’s work is validation enough for you.

recently I reorganised my entire room and I think my desk and my bookshelf are looking particularly lovely!
on the wall above my desk is a mindmap of everything I want to achieve during my gap year; today I'm going to condense it into daily, weekly and monthly goals 😊
