Do you ever think that MC of Astoria ever feels the weight of Hera? In her dreams does she sometimes remember Zeus. Zeus who she chose to die to flee from? Zeus who took and took and betrayed her?

Do you think after she finds out she’ll do something and pause because Hera was a Goddess of family, motherhood, women and marriage and MC doesn’t know whose hands are guiding hers? When she beams over children and teaches them does she pause in terror?

Do you think she wonders if her choices were her own?

(Do you think in the HP au she wonders if she’d have taken in Harry if it wasn’t for Hera? Do you think she bakes with shaking hands because she is domestic yes but is it her or Hera?)

I may be remembering incorrectly but I feel like the shadow of Hera and the weight of that past life haunting the narrative of a big part of the Hades route right? That being said I definitely think it weighs on her even in the routes where she doesn’t fully embrace the power.

When she finds herself smiling at a family with a young child and feels a lick of golden pride down her spine. When she cares for those closest to her, remembering their favorite treats off of the top of her head and not needing to look at a recipe. When she sees a flash of lightning and has a moment of grief so overwhelming she doesn’t remember how to breathe.

How much of it is her? How much of it is the goddess? She will never know, not fully, and that haunts her.

But she can never tell anyone. Not her family. Not her friends. Not her lover. Not her children. Because even if it wasn’t fully her but some magical influence that led her down the path she is on it is her now. This life that she had built is hers and she will be damned if she attributes all of that to Hera when she was the one that fought for it.

(She does eventually tell Alex in a moment of desperation, tears flooding down her cheeks as she asks horrified if they thought she was her or hera. Alex holds her through her tears and tells her over and over again that soul of a goddess or no she is her own person and the things she had done were all her in the end. They would know, after all. They know what divine power feels like and what it is to struggle against what you are and what that power wants you to be.)

(Harry doesn’t understand why his mum looks so sad at her ring sometimes, but he only moves in to wrap his arms around her in a hug. He remembers, before the soul shard was taken out of him, what it was like to not know who he was and how much of him wasn’t him. Still catches himself looking at the faded scar with a frown as those thought plague him. She might never say it out loud, but Harry wants her to know that he loves her as her all the same.)

Thinking now of a tag @dark-elf-writes wrote on my mini Drabble: the playfulness of something serious and needing trust.

Cause it’s true. The situation between Melody and Alex is something serious. Melody is a Selkie whom trusts Alex with her skin. The bond between them is a strong one of friendship and care. But it’s one Alex does not diminish or ignore.

Melody’s freedom can be taken away. Alex knows what it means that she trusts them with her skin. That she trusts them to give it back.

In some of their lonelier moments, they wonder if it means more. If Melody ever looked at them how they looked at her. They brushed it off.

She trusts them. She trusts them to hold her skin and give it back. She trusts them not to consider keeping it.

She trusts them not to feel romantic feelings and so they will. Even if it hurts.

On the flip side, Melody trusts Alex and wouldn’t mind romantic feelings. She cares for them, loves them in a way few others could understand (she’s not human. She’s a selkie and it matters).

Her skin is the most precious thing for her. The most sacred. Her will power given physical form. Those who hold and keep it can make her do anything. Alex gives it back. Alex creates a bond with her that isn’t platonic. It’s not and she can tell.

But she’s scared to. Her mother had burned her skin after her first husband (Josh’s father and oh does her brother hate him) made the mistake of taunting her it was in the house where she couldn’t find it.

A selkie will do anything to be free. Including burning down the house it was in, destroying it. She could not go back to the ocean. But her mother was free.

Melody loves Alex. But she’s so damn scared because of her mother’s stories and because…

What if it ruins their relationship? What if Alex doesn’t feel the same way and the bond is just from Melody?

She loves oh does she love them.

But she’s so scared.

They have their ritual and the others know how serious it is. They know what it means so they lighten the mood with ridiculous behaviour in an attempt to help them. It’s laughter and soothing and the one time an asshole tried to steal the skin they all came down hard.

Yet these two, tangled up in trust and love, don’t say a word in fear.

Sudden Medusa headcanons:

- She actually lied when she said she was 230 cause she was embarrassed about being so old, she's actually 1,030.

- If she gets extremely pissed off her eyes become slits like a snake.

- A big baby when she's sick, she won't admit that she's sick, but then she starts complaining about her head hurting and her throat feeling like it's filled with sandpaper.

- She's actually 6'2" her file was just wrong.

- She can't bake to save her life, she tried once but she burnt the brownies.

- Maybe a little bit overprotective at times, MC's fine with getting protected at times, but Medusa seems to hover.

- Somehow she's a good singer.

- Deep as hell voice.

- She has a Greek accent but it's still slowly dying.

- Her Greek accent comes out in full force if she's angry or if she's flirty.

- She can lift a bookshelf with no trouble. MC ends up with thousands of fantasies whenever she sees it.

- She flirts in Greek a lot.
