It is WILD to me that from what I've seen on chaser game w fandom talk, people are much more sympathetic towards Aoyama (Itsuki's guy friend, who outed her at her workplace explicitly because of his unrequited love towards her) than Kou (Fuyu's husband, who found out that his wife cheated on him and lied to his face about it too, and who had built a life and family with a partner who he now knows never felt the same about him).

??? I have a lot of thoughts about how the finale handled that Fuyu/Kou scene but I genuinely thought it was one of the more sensible, complex, and well-done scenes of the show.

I guess as The Husband he is much more of an "obstacle" to the main pair than Some Guy Itsuki explicitly rejects romantically and even breaks ties with after finding out about him outing her. But the show even fucking tells you in the epilogue that Aoyama had a successful career after, while not mentioning Kou at all. We don't even know if Fuyu and him ended up splitting/getting a divorce etc. Presumably she left him (and their daughter??) in China before returning to Itsuki in Japan.

Like I'm sorry to defend The Man in the lesbian show, but he has genuinely not done anything wrong; arguably not even him leaving for a few days after Fuyu treated him like shit was wrong. He has done nothing but support Fuyu and their family. His one interaction with Itsuki was - although justifiably stand-off-ish and charged given the circumstances - polite and respectful. He's not even homophobic!!!!!!! When Fuyu finally admits to the affair and tells him she's actually a lesbian, his only reaction is to A) inquire if she's always felt that way and if yes, why she married him anyway, B) check in with her if that means she'd like to split up, or continue their marriage, and C) to ask her not to meet with Itsuki again if they were to continue their marriage. Like that is literally such a reasonable request, my man is so much more forgiving than I and probably You could ever be. Like there is no point at which the source of his upset is the fact that she cheated on him with a woman, specifically. He doesn't love her any less for it, he doesn't call her names, he doesn't make any snarky remarks to insult her sexuality etc (apart from pointing out that she's been cold towards him, which she HAS, girl I really hope you didn't treat him like shit through ALL of those 5 years of marriage).

And like, I'm not gonna be like "uhhhh this poor man deserves Fuyu's affection since they're married, she should at least give him another chance" like of course NOT. She's unhappy with him, she's madly in love with a woman who she'd give up everything for. She's a lesbian. She doesn't owe him any love or affection but she DID cheat on him. Repeatedly. For weeks. IN THEIR FAMILY HOME, NONETHELESS. LET US NOT FORGET THAT SHE DID VERY MUCH CHEAT ON HER HUSBAND IN THEIR MARRIAGE BED (presumably). Like girl I know you love pussy and I do too but you're still an asshole!!!!!!!!!!!

And even then. She DOES love him. She says so herself, and it's true. And I know this may be wild to imagine but love doesn't have to be romantic. She loves him, in her own fucked up way, because she's deeply traumatized from years and years of internalised homophobia, being broken up with in the WORST way possible, and falling back into (presumably) denying her sexuality once again. Falling in love with being loved, and cherishing it so much that you forget what hurt you in the first place. Like, I can 100% understand Fuyu's reasoning in that situation. Even if I've never been in a similar situation, it makes perfect sense to me. I understand it even if it's horrible. And like yeah, Fuyu's character IS a hot mess and I love her and this show because of it (lmao) but she has treated this man so badly for what we can only assume is YEARS, and still she cherished what he provided for her enough to make her falter when her betrayal was revealed. For a second, the true repercussions dawned on her, and she decided that she wasn't willing to give up her family, her career, and her daughter just to reunite with Itsuki. And so she told him that she'd never go see Itsuki again. Like that is literally one of the most (and only) logical thinking they gave to any character for this show the whole season!!!! But of course it's also wrong like girl no you can't!!! And then she changes her mind for the gay happy end!!!!! Truly I got to eat my cake and eat it too. The finale was actually like. I don't want to say satisfying because I'd really need another scene with Fuyu and Kou for that, but at least satisfying enough for me to pretend that they figured it out somewhere off-screen. Hopefully.

That was my 2am rambling on how they resolved the Fuyu/Kou relationship. And I really wish ppl liked him more because literally my man has done nothing wrong. He's not even homophobic. HE'S NOT EVEN HOMOPHOBIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aoyama however is the fucking worst and I hate that the show portrayed him in such a good light at the end, GOD I will seethe forever

prompt: Junpei and Akane decide to adopt a pet together (and it doesn’t come as naturally as they would like at first)

I also made a fic for this one! I feel like the first thing that would go wrong is that Akane wouldn’t be comfortable taking care of animals again at all, the second would be that Junpei’s canonically an impulse adopter. So this ended up being more about getting Akane to come around about the idea in the first place (also many catgirl jokes at her expense lmao) Also about the drawing I imagine she quickly comes around to enjoying the little head boops while reading :3

Junpei and Akane had gone through hell to be by each other’s sides. That was true, sure, but a few years into their ‘happy ending’ and the picture perfect act has begun to feel rather unsustainable. Not to mention it should have long since stopped being an act to begin with.

The I love you’s are very real… when they are apart.

It’s not as bad as when they first reunited at least, it wasn’t a very fun sort of tension like she vicariously lived through a little by playing June all that time ago. No, it was more comparable to the tension between a bleeding wound and the injured hand applying pressure to it. They both knew it, felt it, then let the matter join the many subjects which they don’t talk about. Ever. Despite the fact that they probably should.

As counterintuitive as it sounds, their counter to all of that was wanting to be with each other as much as possible. Maybe that’d make the pain fade. To get to know each other better like any normal couple, maybe a bit to prove to themselves they still liked each other’s company and that they hadn’t changed completely from what brought them together as kids.

Big problem with that is, the farthest thing Akane wanted for any of those outings, especially the rare ones where she was somehow convinced into going outdoors, was for it to so closely remind her of any of the things that brought them closer together at that terrible tender age of twelve.

Wandering into an animal shelter wasn’t the intention behind this little stroll. Neither of them even knew it’d be here- really, it wasn’t even much of a proper shelter to begin with, it seems more like an adoption fair. One that was hopefully backed by an indisputably good-faith, locally known and reliable organization– and not by any other corporate entity with history that she’d be tempted to add to her criminal record over. Every time Junpei tells her that the ever-present instinct to suspect and look into every little thing she comes across is bad for her he also fumbles and asks what are the chances she’d just happen to bump into that kind of huge conspiracy so often in her life without actively looking. She answers it’s always a non-zero chance in the end, and they risk far more if unsuspecting. That’s always when he drops the subject.

Though at a certain awkward distance from the fences, she’d elected to just go along with it and follow him for as long as the detour entertains him. It’s not like she hates getting to see the little critters around the place, she’s not that messed up about it, of course not… There’s even a comfortable amount of people around too! Which is to say, far less than there are animals.

There would have been an attempt to just keep walking past where this was taking place, if not for the fact that it really hadn’t taken long for Junpei to start playing with one of the dogs. Not that the rest of the pack wasn’t jumping at trying to grab his attention too, of course, but he took a liking to a particular one.

Noticing she’d stayed behind, barely budging an inch, his voice turns into that clumsy but cute stammering, like it always does whenever he’s trying to sound sensible.

“Oh uh, do you- uh… do you have a fear of dogs?” It helps ease her into a grin just a little.

“No. ‘Afraid’ isn’t the word I’d use…” She just doesn’t know what to do with her hands at the moment other than hold onto Junpei’s, which wasn’t helped when he suddenly let go. And well, it’s not like she knows the temperament of the animals just by looking and it’s really a lot of sudden movements to keep track of in just one place, it’s also not like she would want to risk bothering them when she barely wants to be touched ever without initiating it either, not to mention the space they’re in seems quite small– she makes herself smile again and tilts her head squinting, realizing she’d forgotten to ask. “Is… that a Boston terrier?”

“…Got it. Well, you are more of a cat person I guess. And uh- I don’t know? If you say so, then it must be? I’m not really good at remembering the names for these.”

She steps closer and leans down next to him, who is just sitting on the floor without a care, palms on her knees for support.

"It’s not like I hate pups just because I get along better with the cats.”

"Of course not, just look at them. Aw… it’s hard to imagine anyone could hate these guys.”

Avoidant as she may be, after a solid half minute or so of her watching him have fun she also extends her hand out to pet the dog who, while not showing clear distaste for it or anything, only goes back to wagging its tail when circling back to Junpei. He quickly took over once more when she retracted her hand, vigorously pulling his hands along the fur around the collar and talking to it in a jumbled baby-talk that was apparently really enriching judging by how it earns enthusiastic barking back, as if in conversation. Exactly matching all that energy that Akane couldn’t imagine keeping up with even on a good day.

Between laughter, his voice starts being directed at her again, even if what he says is more of a musing to himself.

"Wait, I think I’m beginning to remember what this little guy reminds me of…”

Oh. Only now? Come on Jumpy, this one’s even black and white as well.

That’s it, she’s got to mess with him now.

"You mean like… a wrestler? The spots on its face already look like a mask but I’m sure a fun little costume would be a really cute look. Clover could DIY a big belt spelling out ‘winner’ for them as well! Unless- or was it a retired wrestler…?”

"No- what are you talking about?! Everything that you just said was absolutely bananas–” Even if his tone poorly feigns appalment there’s humor in it too. "I mean- what’s wrestling got to do with anything, what the hell–?”

"You mean you don’t know?”

It was just ‘bananas’ enough to pull his eyes away from the dog and, apparently, being met with her expression looking down at him while knowingly and visibly holding in laughter, was all it took for it to finally dawn on him.

"Ohh— ” She starts laughing before he facepalms and, from the sound of it, he hits far harder than intended too. Pulling her partner to his feet by hooking her arm under his, she speaks cheerily only once he seems to have recovered enough.

"You shouldn’t touch your face without washing your hands first.”

"Come on, give a guy a moment, okay? This is an overwhelming amount of emotion to feel all at once…” It’s endearing to see him engage in his own variety of theatrics, even if only for the sake of unfunny jokes that she can’t help but be fond of anyways.

"Dork.”

"But hey, you’re right. It would be pretty funny to give him a little wrestler costume… You sure there’s no place for him back home?”

Home as a single stationary place still sounds so foreign to her, and that’s just the part she doesn’t want to talk about.

"We’re here just looking.”

"You say that as if I were a stranger asking and not part of the we in question.”

"Very well. I did not intend on being here today and I won’t indulge in what’s essentially impulse buying a living being, Jumpy.”

"Come on Kanny, what could go wrong? I mean, we’ve got space, we’ve got more than enough funds, I think it would be–”

”What could go wrong?” Sometimes it’s hard to tell if he’s being dense on purpose. “Do you really need me to say it?”

"I… thought you liked animals?”

And with that, it’s finally safe to assume Junpei’s chances of getting his tact back are long gone. Not that she thinks he ever had any to lose.

Flat shoes walk away into the fair, but that’s only because the best way out is through. Akane gets pretty far in before Junpei decides to stop dancing around the subject and puts himself square in front of her, blocking the way.

"Look, I never heard of a single other person who had luck as shitty as we did that summer. Alright? It wasn’t a subject I looked into much but even hearing from people in law enforcement it was a freakish animal cruelty incident that doesn’t happen often. That whole area had issues with that sort of thing anyw–”

"I never heard of luck as poor as I was left with that whole entire year.”

"Y-yeah, there’s that-” When they do bring up a subject that should be buried, there’s not much to do except measure the reaction. That’s what’s between them, if they can’t look away then it better mean something at least. "And… I wasn’t there to help at first, but I came around eventually. I won’t let something like that happen again.”

It’s sweet, he even holds her hand in his… but it’s still a little conceited.

"What makes you think I would?”

"Perfect! Then, we’re both in agreement. There’s nothing bad that could possibly happen and we can totally bring one of these guys home uh… if you two click?”

"Excuse me? At which point did we agree?”

"It doesn’t have to be permanent, these kinds of places do all sorts of trial runs, foster–”

"That’s just cruel.”

"Well, but it doesn’t have to be. I’m sure the little fella will love us and we’ll end up keeping them.”

"What if I don’t want to get attached to a creature with hardly a sixth of a human lifespan?”

"Did you want to uh, take a look at the cats since that’s more comfortable for you?

"Junpei.” None of this is comfortable.

"Okay, okay.” He puts his hands up in a mock gesture of surrender… before plunging into his pocket and pulling out his phone for some reason. ”… Here goes a last ditch effort…”

“What are you doing now?”

"Hey man, can you help me convince your sister of something?”

Before she can even begin to reprimand him he’s clicking his tongue and dialing up again. When Aoi picks up again she can hear even from the arm’s length she’s being kept at.

"Whatever this is about, what makes you think I could possibly be on your side instead of hers?!”

"I don’t! Just hear me out, okay- gimme a second.” He opens the video option in the call and turns the phone in her direction. He has a mildly confused look urging her to explain the situation but it’s a few moments until she says anything, because Junpei has a stupid grin on his face and they both know he might win this.

”…Junpei wants a pet. And we happened to walk into a kennel. Cattery–”

“Adoption fair.”

"And he’s being really stubborn.”

Takes a second for her brother to process the absolute nonanswer he comes up with.

"Oh.”

"Oh?”

"There are worse arguments you could be having out there.” Though Junpei wouldn’t be the one pulling him into those. "Guessing that wasn’t on your itinerary?”

"You think? Why am I not hearing you antagonize him anymore?”

"I mean, I think it could be good for you? You used to beg me for one all the time- until I said Santa couldn’t send animals in boxes with little holes poked in them for air like in the movies.”

She yanks the phone out of Junpei’s hand and turns off the video before putting it up to her ear, looking almost embarrassed.

"Aoi.”

"You’re right, you’re right– it’s a ton of responsibility. Wouldn’t be trying to convince you sis, I’m just saying–”

"You think that’s the part I’d take issue with??”

Akane takes off, pacing away from Junpei, wanting some distance at least if not privacy to continue one of the silliest sibling squabbles in recent memory. Which is completely fine by him, there’s plenty to do while she talks herself into it just to prove a point.

After a few minutes, Akane’s standing next to Junpei again. Turns off the phone and extends her arm out for him to take it without looking at him, pouty like a child while Junpei’s looking smug. This is like the first marital dispute he’s won.

”…Only if we come across one I feel is a good fit.”

“I’ll take that.”

Aoi and Light had recently gotten a cat of their own, though insistently not as a couple, Akane doesn’t really understand what her brother’s love life is like (and she’s grateful to be spared of the details) but they have something going on, why else would he move in with them after she decided to move in together with Junpei? Actually, she might have heard him mention that one of Clover’s coworkers found the little calico abandoned and she offered to take it in, so really it wasn’t even like it was his responsibility any more than the Field’s by a long shot but still… he was so happy over it, which used to be such a rare sight, that Akane found it hard to be a buzzkill about it by voicing what came to her mind.

In truth, it wasn’t just the rabbit hutch thing giving her pause. Aside from the obvious glaring reason for her to be hesitant to hold such a tiny creature in her arms, despite her love for them, she just didn’t think she knew how anymore. At this point she’s more used to stuffed animals, not that she kept many of those around either.

While they visited recently, she sat very stiltedly holding the feline in her lap, her brother went from gushing about it to joking about already having experience looking after a weird ‘kit cat’ his whole life. After she complained Junpei followed up on it by sneakily referring to her as ‘kitten’, just that once, and even if by some metric seeing them getting along was cute she’d have kicked them both if not for the purring fluff ball snoozing on top of her thighs. This was far more anxiety inducing than a plush, she noted, and it only became more evident each fleeting second, each motion coiling for breath she felt against her skin. It was so precious and so easy to ruin and her hands were too singed to hold it. The fact her body deeply rejects such simple gentleness despite it having come so easily to her once is a mourning unto itself.

Most of the cats they see around are cozily lazing about, some snuggling together, staring back at them curiously at most. She could genuinely smile at that. It’s calmer with none of them seeming in the mood for interaction at the moment. They slow their pace now that Akane is actually participating, the unexpected unexpectedness of the situation no longer weighing her down as much.

Though it was still a bit much, so they sat together by a bench for her to rest a little. It wasn’t far at all, it’s right behind one of the cat houses in fact just where it starts leading away from the event.

She’s so completely lost in thought that she’s surprised to hear a small high pitched gasp before even realizing it was a sound she herself had made. Then looking down at her leg she understands why.

A little black cat scratched at her leg, accidentally, it looked more like the tiny little fuzz ball was attempting to climb her leg. Well, technically not black, she notices the fur is a dark grayish color with tons of off-color patches when she gets a better look and she only gets that better look because it succeeds at its task. At which point she has to attempt to scoop the very tiny cat with both hands so it’s not at risk from falling back down. Only stopping its determined meowing when he settles on her lap.

"Why do they always choose you?”

"Because I don’t try chasing after them like they’re dogs, Junpei.”

"Hey, that’s not something I’ve done since I’ve grown up, okay? Well- except–”

"If you say I’m the exception, I swear–”

"Okay! So, where did this little fella come from?”

"I didn’t see…” She leans in and rubs behind the cat’s ears, earning a soft little purr of gratitude. The fur really is weirdly patched when you look close, it doesn’t feel like the coloration should be that way, the texture’s also a bit different. Wait, are the eyes not open yet? Or is one–

It isn’t long before an employee? Volunteer? A lady in a friendly colored vest comes to gently whisk away the culprit, she seems young and a bit anxious to have to talk to them.

"Oogh, I’m so sorry ma'am, are you okay? These little nails didn’t do a number on you, right?”

Akane gets on her feet to more steadily help the kitten trade hands.

“Oh, oh no, I’m perfectly fine. Really, I could barely feel it. Thank you.”

“That’s good.”

And that’s where the interaction would have ended if Junpei didn’t also get up.

"Hi, I’m with her. So, how come he’s popped up all the way over here?”

"You see this guy’s a little escape artist– every time there’s people around he tries to hide away from visitors by sneaking out into the desk with us, so… then why today did he decide to bother such a nice couple instead? What’s up with you?”

The cat is still trying to climb out back to where it was a minute ago, which the volunteer seems to know how to handle, though it’s funny to see it go from her arm to her shoulder then back to the other arm. A lot of effort is going into making sure he doesn’t throw himself on the ground. Junpei waits for a moment where the pace’s slowed down a bit to also try to pet him, seems to like him too.

“Aww, I think that’s a really good fit, actually. What’s his name?”

“Oh we don’t know actually, this friend was found without a nameplate. He’s made a name for himself but it’s not been that long at all since he’s been with us, we haven’t agreed on a name yet since he’s been back from the vet. Wait, did you say you two were interested?”

He looks at Akane for her to answer. She looks back with what doesn’t seem to be a look of aggression to the general onlooker, but they know he’s putting her on the spot like this so she won’t be backhanded about agreeing.

"Well, yes. If possible, I mean- isn’t the saying that the pet chooses the owner and not the other way around? We sure sound like we’ll get along, we both aren’t super sociable either–”

The awkward little laugh got to Junpei, who’s more comfortable with failing at humor in front of strangers than she is to even attempt it.

"He must have thought ‘oh these guys are off by themselves away from everyone too, we’ll get along great!’”

That’s just silly enough that she can look at him funny behind crossed arms and it’ll be an entirely appropriate reaction. She can only hope that’s the only thing that he sensed in them.

The kitten settled into a nap on the volunteer’s arms by now, tired himself out. Really is an adorable sight.

"That’s just great! One of you just has to come fill up a questionnaire at the table and a few more things, we can sort out real quick- uhm… I guess I should- oh right! So, like I was saying, this fella may come with extra expenses due to health complications, is that okay with you? Are you new pet owners?”

"The issue isn’t money…” “We are? New to it- kind of…”

“Oh, don’t worry too much. He’s all healthy now, neutered and the vaccinations all in order too, it’s just… it’s a little bit of a hard sell to some people since he needed stitches and lost an eye so he’s always going to be a bit wobblier than average when moving around.”

"A-ah… why is that?”

Akane’s hand suddenly has a vice grip on his. For once, the resolve in her voice is undeliberate, shaky.

"We don’t need to hear the story.” She turns away from the volunteer and her voice turns small so only her partner hears. “Can you go take care of all that? I’ll go get my brother to help get things in order before they go do a housecheck, if they’ll do one.”

"There’s not much there to cat proof I don’t think, but sure. Guess you’d- uh, have a better eye for that stuff… Also let me guess, you want me to tell you when that is happening so you can go to his place while there’s strangers over?” A smile confirms that. "Alright. But I’ll check in with Clover too to make sure you two aren’t skipping town instead.” Another smile, more mischievous this time.

"Oh no, my plan’s been found out.” First off, if she really intended on making an exit she wouldn’t bring it up to him first, duh, as if she were an amateur. Second, maybe this line of teasing can get far too draining, far too quick, so she changes the subject one last time. "Tell me your name ideas when I get back.”

She places a kiss on his cheek and saunters off. Does she wish she didn’t get shoved into bringing painful color back into a memory that had just barely grayed and numbed?

Yes.

But she wouldn’t have been convinced if she didn’t genuinely think they were capable of giving it a try. Maybe any place they stay at together will feel more like a home when there’s someone living there with them that isn’t walking on eggshells, that is just uncomplicatedly happy to have survived whatever it did before it ended up there. Maybe she’ll learn to do that as well. Things already are complicated enough.

[Genshin] Thoughts on "Akasha Pulses, the Kalpa Flame Rises"

I stayed up til 2 am to finish this quest and I loved it! ❤

Staying up til 2 am on version release dates is just a tradition at this point... I will not be spoilered. This is a difficult endeavor, seeing as how spoilers even come out before the version's story is officially released, but I try. ;o;

(At least I'm no longer on east coast time!! Staying up til 4 am was fun in college, it is not fun now. T___T)

// 3.2 ARCHON QUEST SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED //

One of the first things that happens in this quest is Alhaitham saying he's not like the other girls. In fact, he's in the top 1% of girls. This man has such a superiority complex (though if I'm being honest, it's not completely unfounded...)

Initially, I didn't really like his character because of this (among other things), but it's grown on me after seeing his interactions with Kaveh. He's just so... needlessly antagonistic. xD

Throughout the archon quest, Alhaitham has played the role of the cold, logical brain of the team. He's almost like a robot in that sense, so seeing him take what a robot would deem "unnecessary actions" to torment poor Kaveh is hilarious. (It seems like Kaveh might do his fair share of the tormenting as well though LMAO)

Alhaitham: happiness is an emotion alien to the sages smh

Alhaitham: y'know who else won't experience happiness today

Alhaitham: my roommate bc I took both keys while leaving the house today heheheh

I can't wait to see more of their interactions in the future.

(Also, Kaveh's hair?? Hello???

I wonder if the "IXIX" pins mean anything... nine-nine?)

Another character that grew on me a bit this archon quest is Dehya!! Miss Anime-Hair-Vents-Girl. She got to shine the most the previous chapter, but she has her moments here too. Protecting the traveler as their bodyguard, wanting a "smile" as payment... big sister vibes.

She's a big ol' tsundere in some regards though. She doesn't have any big ambitions, and she admits herself to only wanting to enjoy the days with good food and drink, and only working when she has to.

And yet, despite this... she's trekked halfway across Sumeru and back with the gang, even though she could just leave?? at any point she wanted to. Dehya's very individualistic, and doesn't compromise on her own ideals or interests. But in the end, she'll always have your back, both physically and emotionally.

I already had a high opinion of Tighnari before this archon quest so not much changed here. He's sensible and rational without being cold. It was nice seeing how protective he was towards Haypasia as his patient.

He's the perfect person to watch over the sages who went to the Avidya Forest at the end, too. Even if they deserve it, I can't see Tighnari being needlessly cruel to any of them. He'll definitely keep them under a watchful eye, though...

And of course, I can't talk about Tighnari without talking about Cyno! I'm not a Cynonari shipper myself, but there was sooo much food this chapter -- from Cyno asking who was behind Tighnari's injury, to Tighnari trusting Dehya and the Traveler as soon as they brought up Cyno's name, to Tighnari's affirmation that he and Cyno have been working together behind the scenes from the very beginning.

I wasn't really a fan of certain parts of Cyno's story quest, but for better or worse, the writers are sticking to their guns in portraying Cyno's personal brand of justice. Everything played out really nicely in his scenes. My personal favorite is when he ordered Azar to "plead guilty in front of the archon herself."

Another thing I wanted to mention was how well done the Scaramouche scene at Pardis Dhyai was. I legitimately got spooked when I saw him pop up. He too says he's not like the other girls and then a bunch of other stuff about rejecting his past.

The traveler notes that "he's become milder but somehow even more deranged" lollllll

One thing I didn't expect from him was to actually be concerned about Haypasia and to treat her as his "first follower." I guess all gods need followers though, so it wasn't real concern so much as it was just his own superiority complex.

Also, I did not expect him to crash head first into a concrete floor at the end of the archon quest LMAO

One of the first things I saw today though was (3.3 leaks) his signature dish, where he orders the traveler to wash the dishes. 😭 Honestly, I have to admire his sheer tenacity... he becomes god, gets his ass beat, suffers what I assume has to be terminal brain damage, and STILL has apparently done zero self-reflection LOL. Whatever happens in the 3.3 interlude quest, he's evidently still the vertically-challenged gremlin we know (and maybe love I haven't decided yet)

Nilou was an unexpected appearance in this quest. I really enjoyed all the different perspectives this quest had to offer, including the segment where we played as Nilou. It's a good way of showcasing things that the traveler wouldn't personally be there to experience.

Speaking of Nilou... I absolutely love her. She's a little clumsy and forgetful, but her story quest really showed that she's willing and able to fight for what she loves. She's not a revolutionary (this is the exception, as the opportunity basically landed in her lap!), but in her own way, she's been fighting for change all this time.

Nilou's story quest also touched me for a different reason, too... Recently, a server for a game I really like and was a member of the community for shut down. I wish we could have come together to extend its lifespan the way Nilou and the people at the bazaar did for their dance troupe, even though it would have been impossible in our case.

That's a rabbit hole I'll go down some other time, though!

(The OST when Nilou was dancing was also fantastic. And when the Performance Prohibition Act text was overlaid with the fake order to arrest Kusanali? Chills. ❤❤)

...Speaking of that fake order, I couldn't let this go by without mentioning Isak, that kid who literally dressed as Kusanali to lead the guards away. 😭 Of all the things I expected in this chapter, this was not one of them.

I also chose to hide in the field instead of behind the house when it came to the first decision b/c I thought he might be able to camouflage himself among the vegetables and I WAS RIGHT LMAO (unless hiding behind the house led to the same result. then idk lol)

Last but not least, I need to talk with everyone about Nahida. She's my pfp (at the time of writing this, anyway) and just. Look at her. LOOK AT HER. I loved her ever since her design was first leaked (yes I'm gatekeeping don't @ me /s) and I'm so glad her story has played out so beautifully.

One thing I really liked is that Nahida was never infantilized this chapter -- even though literally all of us were willing to go to war for her and to coddle the radish after her teaser, Nahida really held her own. The first scene we get of her in this quest is of her doing self-reflection. She wallows in doubt for a bit, then comes to the realization of what her true emotions are. Not what she "should" be feeling or thinking as an archon, but what she is feeling.

(I'm also a bit confused here, after re-reading her wiki entry -- could Nahida have escaped the Sanctuary beforehand? The archon quest implies she couldn't, as it gives an explanation as to how the Sanctuary could contain a god. Nahida's own voicelines also talk about being in a birdcage. Yet, the wiki says that she (was essentially gaslit, first of all) took a step back on her own and let the sages run things.)

Anyways, the self-reflection was a scene that I hadn't realized I needed -- Nahida getting past her own mental block, and taking strides forward to act as Sumeru's archon. Not trying to gather information or help out behind the scenes -- nope, the radish is out for blood this time.

Fun fact: I tried to challenge Scaramouche's domain with just the Nahida and Lumine in my party! (I also did the same earlier, playing through most of the archon quest with Cyno/Lumine/Nilou/Nahida. I would've used Tighnari in place of Nahida if I had him...)

Not-so-fun fact: I failed miserably and got Nahida killed in the very first fight (I forgot how hard electro skirmishers can hit...) and had to bring Zhongli along too for his shield.

Nahida really shined during the fight with Scaramouche -- forcing him to go through 168 samsara cycles; poetic justice at its finest. It's also quite fitting that Nahida drew upon the people's wisdom using the Akasha to help the traveler. Honestly, I'm not too sure how that worked (would regular people even know how to beat a giant mecha god robot...?) but Nahida's always been an archon for the people, and it's nice to see that theme being carried through. It's even in her kit! The most powerful part of her kit (Tri-Karma Purification) doesn't activate unless a reaction with dendro is triggered.

My heart definitely sunk though when I first saw Scaramouche try to take Nahida's Gnosis (the way he picked her up too???? 😭). Another thing this quest did well was hide information from the player. Initially, I thought the whole strategy session at the beginning of the quest was kind of odd, given that it we just skipped through the actual meeting. Everything was revealed in due time though. ❤

(And this way, Paimon got to be useful too! Instead of repeating information that we just heard, she got to be the "person who wasn't listening during the meeting" to catch the players up to speed, haha.)

The third-to-last segment with Greater Lord Rukkhadevata was also incredibly beautiful. Nahida's self-realization that she is the Dendro Archon, and essentially has been all along was affirmed.

The second-to-last segment was less beautiful. After all our hard work! Dottore shows up to snatch the two Gnoses. I don't feel like Nahida got a good deal with Raiden's Gnosis, to be honest... I guess it had less value to her as a Gnosis from a foreign land, though.

As for her own Gnosis... I really want to know what information she got in exchange for it!!! D:

I guess Nahida did the best she could though. She was at a huge disadvantage in the situation.

And the last, but certainly not least segment of our heroes celebrating? *chef kiss*

An epilogue like this was exactly what we needed to tie up the archon quest. It would have been too weird just asking some questions to Nahida at the end of everything, and not seeing everyone again and see how things were going.

The huge upheaval at the Akademiya, the fates of the sages, Dunyarzard!!!, were all discussed. The Sumeru Archon quest had also addressed the huge inequality between the citizens of the desert and the rainforest, and I'm so happy to see Cyno spearheading the efforts to revitalize Aaru Village. Even Setaria showed up!

One thing I will definitely take away from Sumeru is the persistent theme of how everyone coming together can solve seemingly insurmountable problems. It's a rather obvious thing to take away (the power of teamwork, yay!) but it was really hammered in throughout the archon quest. Every part of Alhaitham's plan relied on its individual members, and the use of the Akasha to save Sumeru not only once, but twice was a result of using the knowledge gathered from its citizens' combined experiences. Sumeru is the land of wisdom, and a part of wisdom is cooperation and knowing when and how to rely on others.

There's plenty of room to expand Sumeru's story from here, and I'm excited to see where the story takes us next.

(And of course, the lore bombs at the end... I can't wait to find out the answers to those questions!!)

Can I just say your MC is one the best MC's I've ever read in COG and HG. As a female reader the mc doesn't feel too masculine nor feminine. They feel neutral enough that I can play without having to change them. I also love the realistic choices and reactions, too often I see other HG's (cough- I won't say which-) quip and give that marvel like family friendly dialogue. I love that if I was in this setting, I would react the way (at least my mc) acts. Oh and the female characters Muah! Perfect. They feel genuine without being a stereotype of what means to be a girl and the fact you still give them their femininity without demonizing it! Many male authors seem to write female characters underneath Pixie wild, shy motherly or badass sexual. Anyway, sorry for gushing- its honestly hard to find a versatile, all the round good WIP.

Dude, i hate that so much! But what do you expect when we've had Marvel be the juggernaut of cinema for the last 20 years? That means their form of telling stories has influenced so much styles of writing, storytelling, and direction to the point it's saturating media and people are getting tired of it. Personally, I haven't even seen the new Disney shows about Wanda, Loki, Moon Knight or the rest since I'm so fatigued watching superhero stuff. Like I could care less.

Oh great, a female character who is strong and independent and needs no man whatsoever because she thinks men are baggage so she always has to demean them while doing everything perfectly. Eyerolls. Like they not only ruined her whole character, they then turned it on its head and made it so a man could be the only thing that could help her grow as a person...Bruhhhhhhh

Anyways. Yeah, ima try to avoid that, but like I said before i may fuck it up without realizing it because I consume media that unfortunately has that bullshit and may influence me somewhat. Doesn't mean I'm a piece of shit lmao, just means I'm being influenced by my surroundings because quality writing isn't being promoted because of writing that instead checks off boxes is what gets the love from corporations and investors instead. I don't believe in the whole "Go woke go broke" shit, I rather believe in consumer fatigue. Consumers don't wanna get preached or lectured at anymore. People don't wanna see obvious boxes getting checked with token minorities or plot points. People are tired of corporate wokeness.

I think a woman can have strength by being a mother. She doesn't have to be single and scorn the affections of others. I think a woman can show fortitude by being a knitter or dancer in the ballrooms. She doesn't have to give speeches all the time and be a general to command respect from others. I think a woman can show initiative by using their charisma without needing it to be sexual to get shit done. A woman doesn't only have her sexuality to use as a weapon, she has her wits.

Inversely, you can flip what i just said and it would be true. Because a woman isn't bound by tropes.

Same goes for the men.

Anyways, my point to all this is that i wanna create something that can give female characters their femininity without demonizing it.

i guess i understand a bit of the criticism but it's as you said, if it's not your cup of tea, don't drink it. sometimes i read something and come to love it until the characters make certain decisions that don't really resonate well with me so i just stop reading it to keep my blood pressure leveled lmao. i mean obviously cmar isn't for just anyone but it does kind of get a bit old when people criticize my y/n for the way that she is and she can't really fix that because of the circumstances in her life.

like in the beginning, someone complained about y/n a doormat and letting everyone walk on her and that she should just stand up and grow some confidence. and now it's being said that she should stop wailing in her pain all the time and just get to the healing part already and it just puts me a bit off guard because like...in the real world, you can't just...pick yourself up because you want to? that's not how things work? and writing things unrealistically is a little....not really my cup of tea when it comes to dealing with trauma and stuff.

also i had a bit of a fear a few months ago when i thought cmar was gonna get to at least 30 chapters because there may be people who don't like long series and the wait being too much for them but honestly i don't really care anymore. at the end of the day, they don't have to read it and wait, you know? and i've had almost everything planned out since i decided to make cmar a series so i'm not gonna cut out certain things just to satisfy people because personally for me, there are certain things that needs to be addressed before y/n does head off to her healing arc.

if people don't wanna wait, they don't have to wait.

thoughts on what the twinned girls on blaidds armor could represent? i like it perhaps as an image relating to some in-world folktale, but its also interesting to think of as blaidd & ranni themselves

Oh this is absolutely something I've thought entirely too much about lmao. In my mind, I know it's probably just a conveniently symmetric design they slapped together, but in my heart, there's got to be some in-universe backstory to Blaidd's crest.

Before diving into who the two figures might represent, I'm also quite curious about their pose. They appear to be holding opposing hands, at once clasping what appears to be a vessel of sorts at head level, and resting the other set on an ovular shape at the center.

Maybe I'm just seeing things, but to me, the uppermost object somewhat resembles the vials of Celestial Dew, while the ovular object reminds me of the amber egg gifted by Radagon to Rennala. Part of me thinks this scene depicts their marriage and subsequent disavowal, however, I don't know how much sense it would make chronologically. Blaidd was given to Ranni when they were just children, likely long before Radagon left Rennala with the amber egg. It would be somewhat odd to portray the fall of their house so boldly.

That said, the rite of atonement with Celestial Dew appears to be a Nox tradition, judging by the statue at center of the Basin of Vows. Ranni has a distinct connection to the Nox, despite she is not one herself. Regardless, her ambition guides her to their lost civilization with a mutual desire to invoke the Age of Stars. It could be that these two figures are simply Nox maidens, since their culture at least somewhat informed Carian sensibilities.

My other thought is actually a bit of a "folktale," as you describe it. The fact that these figures appear to be two women with tendriling lower halves reminds me of the spirit jellyfish, ethereal beings with a mysterious connection to the Astrologers from which the Carians descended. Naturally, this calls to mind the tragedy of Aurelia and Aureliette, the young twin sisters who never saw the stars. It's endearing to think a tale relating to these parted sisters might have been passed down among the Carians, possibly revised with a happier ending in mind, in hopes that the promise of returning to the stars might one day be fulfilled.

Bouncing off of this, it's always fascinated me how Ranni (or at least her doll form) bears a striking resemblance to the spirit jellyfish with her massive blue hat, her flowing dress, her four arms, and even the unusual braid about her neck that gives the impression of tentacles. And, well, not to mention Ranni's own blue spectral second face. It would appear that spirit jellyfish are augurs of sorts for the night sky—only furthered by the fact that they spawn in many places only after sunset.

My last thought is a bit more convoluted and shaky, at least until Shadow of the Erdtree drops, but I also wonder if perhaps the two figures symbolize Ranni and Miquella with their crossed fates. There's a suspicious amount of overlap between the two Empyreans' backstories, but it's a bit much to get into here. In any case, I'm starting to wonder if maybe they had conspired at one point, or at least aided each other in some way. If so, Blaidd could have a subtle connection to Miquella, an Empyrean who, along with Malenia, noticeably lacks a shadowbound companion. Can't wait for this one to be disproven, lmao.

I hadn't considered they might represent Ranni and Blaidd themselves, but I can see that. After all, Blaidd was created from Ranni's spirit in some way, fundamentally linked to the actualization of her destiny. I like that.

Ultimately, I don't think there's one definitive answer, but it feels as if the motif was designed to get players thinking about how it might relate to Blaidd and the Carians. Either way, it's cute that he has these little ladies on his breastplate in spite of how disheveled he looks, lol. Thanks for the ask!

I posted on weverse today (hidden from artist), calling out the people who are harassing joshua and the girl, and the people who sent a protest truck (which is an embarrassment, and funnily enough the korean antis also find it embarrassing and unnecessary), telling them to get a life or find a hobby. Not even a minute since i posted and someone replied that I’M “despicable” for calling out fans on weverse. HUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Actually i don’t know what to say about that bec i am so dumbfounded.. another person replied that joshua was caught lip syncing at the concert. ?? i find that “issue” SO ANNOYING because 1) most, if not all, artists lip sync to some extent at concerts, unless they don’t do intense choreography. Even band vocalists stop singing for a bit to catch their breath.. 2) this wasn’t an issue prior to the dating rumors. No one cared! But now they hate joshua and will shit on him for everything <3

Also asked korean carats yesterday to explain to me how dating as an idol is considered “deceiving fans”. They replied to me explaining that it’s because joshua was rarely on ig/wv, but all this time he’s been doing lovestagram with a girl. i understand other people’s experiences are different, and some people legit have changed genders

but personally i was never a girl. when talking about baby!me i use they pronouns now. except for like, the years i was 16-18. i was not a girl then, but i was trying to be a girl, so it feels right to respect that and use she pronouns for her.

i said this in the tags of a post some time this week but like. as young as 4 i was aware i was not a girl. i, being four, assumed this was because of misogyny. girls get a raw deal, so clearly it was only sensible to wish i was born a boy.

like honestly i don’t think i had a clear sense of gender at all until like, last year. (inasmuch as “whatever makes you, the viewer, the gayest” can be considered a clear sense of gender, lmao)

idk when i need to make clear that i am talking about a past experience i had because other people around me believed i was a girl, i just...say that. they treated me like a girl. they thought i was a girl. i was trying to be a girl.

i never was a girl. other people perceiving me as a girl doesn’t change that. hell, like i said, me trying to be a girl didn’t actually change that. seventeen year old ani was not a girl any more than thirty-one year old ani, but she was trying to inhabit girlhood in a way i would never bother with now (at least, not for longer than a few hours)

given how disparate people’s experiences of gender are, the correct thing to do is...ask people. like if you’re talking to a trans person about their past, ask what language to use. even if you are trans. i know some of my trans friends feel very strongly that they were their assigned gender, at least when they were kids. i feel very strongly that i never was. neither of us is wrong, we’re just different people.

I agree with everything you said, Cathrine is delightful, naive but stands her ground and she's only going to get better with age. Yeah, the whole age gap is a bit... But considering the time period it was written in I just imagine him younger idk. The action part is when they're in the abbey ig, that's the most fun part and I'm not going to spoil it to you ofc but I'd do the same as Cathrine if I was in a place like that lol maybe without saying certain things tho. I would love to know your thoughts on the novel, by the end I did like henry, he did show up and out when he needed to. I'd have to say that my favorite austen romance is persuasion, the man did annoy me in the begining even tho ig I understand that one considering their history but his letter in the end has to be the best austen letter, I'm not a fan of love letter in general but since they already have a history together it hits differently idk also talking about relatable heroines Ann Eliot my beloved, the people pleasing is next level (but we're working on that)

I waited to finish the novel to reply and now I understand what you meant hahah, a lil warning about spoilers ahead for anyone who might come across this that wants to read Northanger Abbey

Catherine's imagination running wild annoyed me a bit only because she was using it on a real person and in such a way but I understood she's an avid reader seeing patterns in real life and im sure her subconscious craved to make a villain out of the general - he was too attentive and polite for her to have an excuse to say anything bad about him though he was the most dreadful part of her experience in the abbey. but the way she talked to henry about it, I can't help but laugh, she feels so at ease with him and trusts him so much that she forgot all about manners and common decency and asked him questions that so obviously show her suspicions- like what heroine would share she suspects his father of murder with her crush 😭 propriety and common sense were sent out the door faster than her lmao

as for henry yeah, he did show up when it mattered and related the information to her in a very considerate way, he was also extra caring after she ran away in tears all ashamed when her suspicions were revealed so all in all you can tell he can be a little shit when he's in a silly goofy mood but also be extremely sensitive in certain situations, we love a man with a high eq 😄

the novel itself... I am not going to lie to you, I am a bit disappointed - I pushed through some boring parts in the hopes of some grandiose drama but things were resolved in a very bland way. the conclusion to the engagement situation is related through letters, we don't see either the thorpes or james himself at all, later on we only hear about what went between the general and john and I get it creates this feeling of "we're done with them, let's wrap it up, chop chop!" as if we didn't spend half the novel with those characters around. the way catherine moves on isn't technically quick but in writing it feels like it. aside from that part being rushed, so was the ending- eleanor having a fiance and catherine not knowing anything of it does make a bit of sense because she is a more discreet person but tying the whole thing together with "and his servant left behind the washing bills from so many chapters ago!".. I wouldn't call it lazy but it was a random choice. (I did find the part where she says she can't name the fiance cause the structure of a novel wouldn't allow it entertaining tho); the resolution for the thorpes was very similar to a fairytale - bad guys left vexxed, good guys in complete bliss. in sense and sensibility the "bad girl" at least got a man out of the whole ordeal lol so I was expecting some twist or another but it's fine, just as austen was done with the characters, so was i lol

I think most of all I wanted a more dramatic moment of getting together for henry and catherine but I suppose the whole point is this it's a regular story with regular characters where the only dramatics spawn from some very common behaviours in people in higher society. the final chapter was just rushing everything which honestly isn't a bad thing considering i was not too curious even three chapters prior as to how it all ends, I think austen mightve known it was gonna be predictable anyways so might as well not waste much thought and time on it.

I did like the book, as I do with every austen book, because it's an experience - I like the humour, I like the writing style (though some sentences could do with being shortened, I have to reread again and again when I'm sleepy sometimes), I think the fact there are less descriptions of surroundings and more cheeky commentary on society and fun dialog works for me very well. this novel is no different in these aspects than the ones I've previously read and im glad about it. when it comes to characters, I'm fond of Eleanor particularly but I appreciate the Morlands as well - they seem very simple in their thinking but very loving and caring, they give their children freedom and support them unreservedly, im sure henry and eleanor would love to be in their company in the future (im also so happy for eleanor and I hope his family is the warmest and help her heal from all she's endured)

it was a fun read and im satisfied i finished it regardless of anything, also very glad I got to talk with someone about it 😊

the letter in persuasion you mention sounds exactly like the type of profession of love i want, here I just mostly got austen describing events and we didn't even get to see catherine find henry at the door, we had to follow her mother to the bookshelf upstairs 😂 so a letter in the character's own words sounds great!

people pleasing would drive me up the wall, that's why I was so happy with catherine but! relatable it is. so I will probably yell at her with affection and understanding hahah (I'm sure you're doing great, one "no" at a time)

this idea is one of those shards that i'm gifted at times of night when i'm supposed to be asleep 💀 i realized it would only work best in an x reader format, so here it is! still had fun tho since it felt more like character study than anything lmao

anyway i did the early KoS for this <3 will probably be unable to stop myself to do a part 2 with the tsuka empire!

characters: ishigami senku, ooki taiju, ogawa yuzuriha, kohaku, chrome, asagiri gen, + mini bonuses at the end!

cw: gn!reader, safe for anime only's, fluff, kind of implied romance but it's not at all explicitly... romantic?? just sweet,, so u can take it platonically if u want

word count: 1.4k

"senku, what do you really want?"

naturally, "swoon" is much too strong a word for senku, but those words sure bring him close

of all the technical and practical questions people ask, you choose to go to him with—get this—a personal inquiry in genuine curiosity

and you're sure as hell not going to accept the same "save all seven billion people and restore humanity" mantra that he chants near-religiously

so as senku stalls you with a dry, "what, am i being interviewed now?" it strikes him hard that he wants a lot of things

to see the stars. to laugh with taiju and yuzu and gen and all the others. to rebuild funny modern gadgets with chrome and kaseki. to live a bit more normal again. to hear his dad's voice one more time. to—

shit, could he really tell you all that?

he realizes that's one of the things he wants, too. to just tell you, to make sure another human knows that even his calculated heart aches for things he knows he simply can't have

so when he looks back at you, with your tilted head and die-hard curious eyes, he thinks that one of these days, he will end up opening up

"taiju, i'd spend everyday with you."

at first, he merely blinks, stuck between whether to think "well duh" versus "oh my god really?"

he ends up settling on the latter, squeezing you in one of those all-too-familiar bear hugs and undeniably touched that you found the need to tell him something so sweet

you'd think that letting one single thought sit in his brain for too long would make it go stale, but really, it's the best way for him to process it to its fullest extent

so it's only a bit later on (after he tosses your words left and right inside his head) that taiju realizes that it means that your care for him overrides any and all of his flaws and antics

it's a reminder that you do want to see him everyday, and that you'd never get sick of him even if you did

and that... well, that tugs straight at his heartstrings, making him tear up faster than he thought possible

so at times when he worries even just the least bit that he's being overbearing, he only has to remember what you said on one very specific day

and when he does, you best expect that you will get scooped up in another hug out of nowhere

"yuzuriha, i don't know what i'd do without you."

she's well overworked at this point of the day, and you insist that this tiny, tiny, super insignificant favor of mending your shirt can wait until tomorrow, or even the next day, really!

but yuzu is stubborn and insists—she insists that she still has the energy and that it'd be a waste of concentration if she doesn't do it now

you can only stand outside the tent until she comes out a couple minutes later and hands the garment to you, good as new

so you say it, quietly and out of breath, as if you're the one who had just expended all their energy quite literally fixing up other people's problems

she has to take a moment to completely process your words, and only then does she take your hands in hers in silent gratitude

surely anyone sensible can realize that they'd be lost without her expertise, and yet it's few and far between that she's reminded how irreplaceable she is

but yuzuriha also understands that you're not just talking about her skills; you'd undoubtedly be completely, utterly lost without this girl you hold so dearly

and when you gingerly wipe the sweat off her forehead and hand her a glass of water, she's dead sure that all she strives for is more than worth it

"kohaku, you make me feel safe."

immediately, pride swells through her veins; but there's another fuzzy feeling somewhere in her chest that she can't exactly name

there's some deja vu from the feeling of when ruri squeezes her in a warm, cozy embrace after thanking her for the millionth time for all she's done

as well as the feeling of when suika looks up at her with sparkling eyes behind her lenses and the admiration one could only have for a big sister

but... there's still something else. this feeling is still somehow different from those, if that makes sense?

despite the mild confusion, kohaku does the single logical thing to her: she's direct to you about it

"you're... wow," she starts, a small smirk playing at her lips, "you really are special, huh?"

almost instantly, you fumble over your own feet in surprise, but she's quick to laugh it off and catch you in a hug; she wouldn't know what she'd do with herself if you didn't realize just how much she meant it

a fierce protector through and through—kohaku is well aware that that's what she is, but coming from you, the sentiment means double than what it already is

"chrome, teach me!"

his excitement for this upcoming project is contagious, and senku would chew you out for not doing anything, so you might as well learn how to help get it up and running

the words slip from your mouth with zero hesitation—they're so simple, yet chrome genuinely can't wrap his head around what it does to him

he's admittedly so used to everyone else defaulting him to the backseat role of little brother figure, so it's such a refreshing splash of water to the face to finally be the one being looked up to

he has to bite his lip to try and put a lid on the giddiness that surges through him at the idea

seriously, you, asking to learn something new from him? he hasn't felt this much adrenaline since that real baaad sulfurina incident

you wave a hand in his face, yanking his thoughts back to earth with a call of his name

"oh, yeah! yeah," chrome says brightly, moving over to give you space at the workbench, "of course, c'mere. i know exactly what you can do."

and just like any other time, his intensive focus and hands-on expertise makes a great scientist's apprentice out of you without fail

"gen, just be yourself, okay?"

you say it nonchalantly, almost teasingly, on a day that he tries to make himself look particularly bad

and he knows that you know exactly what the words mean to him: you're calling him out for the anti-hero drama king act, and he absolutely wants to hate you for it

how dare you take the fastest route to his heart? what in the world gave you the RIGHT?

days—maybe even a couple weeks—pass of him being quieter around you than usual, and you're almost sure that you had somehow upset him with the remark

until he finally comes to you with a cute little wood figurine of your favorite flower—a peace offering, if you will (though it was acquired through kaseki's help)

after his two very simple words of "thank you," your natural first response is "???" but he quickly adds, "for reminding me. just what i needed, actually."

while still somewhat baffled at the sudden gift, you can't help but melt at the gesture (and from the smirk on gen's face, you can tell that he's well aware)

you just have to admit: for a compulsive liar, he sure does have one of the most genuine hearts you've ever had the pleasure of meeting

bonuses !!

"kinro, i want to be just like you." -> nobody would've thought about it, but he gets insecure that his stubborn nature comes off as being a party pooper. it's a big relief to hear that his dedication to be a good role model pays off!

"ginro, be proud of yourself!" -> he's told so often that he isn't trying hard enough that sometimes he really starts to believe it ): nothing could ever make him feel more validated than your words do.

"suika, i never regret asking for your help." -> sweet baby gets a serotonin rush whenever her efforts bear fruit. it only pushes her to work harder, and just like everyone else, you adore her for it.

"kaseki, your work inspires me." -> it seals your spot on his long roster of emotionally adodpted grandchildren. because c'mon, the passion he's dedicated his whole life to, appreciated? i don't think i need to explain further.
