BIOGRAPHY

At an early age, he was taught to be careful around anyone that he came across because many of them would look at him with fear in their eyes. Because of this, he has tried to make himself as small as possible (hard to do with how big he wound up becoming) and tries to avoid people as much as possible.

Most people don't really know much about him, given the fact that he tries to keep his distance for fear of hurting people, but now that he is in Alexandria, he's grateful to some of the witches that have gifted him a piece of jewelry that allows him to hide the snakes in his hair - which he's sure that turn some people off - and he's even got a job at the Cinnamon Dragon as a baker, wanting to show people that just because he's a gorgon, it doesn't mean he's a bad guy.

He's been in Alexandria for five years, but he still hasn't really connected with people. Sure, he's had sex with some, but he hasn't built a genuine connection with any of them besides a simple hello in passing. And part of him wants to be able to make such a connection, but he's afraid that if he gets close to someone... they'll take one look at the real him and turn him away.

Or worse, that he'll hurt them.

For Sanura to be stuck on assignments was quite rare, she wasn't sure if she had totally pissed off one of her professors or if they had just wanted to give her more of a challenge when it came to her assignment. The long list of formulas and definitions paired with the body aches and headache blooming was starting to make her head spin.

She tapped her manicured nails against the keyboard of her laptop before once again erasing the paper she had been attempting to write for Creator knows how long. She sighed, pulling off her reading glasses and rubbing her hands over her face. She jumped when she heard the voice speak up from next to her.

"Oh! Hi, Night.~" She mused with a sweet smile, even her bubbly tone couldn't hide the way the dark circles under her eyes stood out against her otherwise flawless skin. "Three hours?...feels like ten minutes with how little progress I've made..." She murmured gaze glancing back to the screen of her laptop, then back to Night, her gaze bounced back and forth between the two before she realized that he might actually be able to help.

"Wait! You'll help? I be-" She had jumped up from her seat in excitement realizing Night's offer, though she stumbled from the headrush that came from her sudden movement after sitting for so long. "Woah, got up like waaaayyy too fast."

With a mentor as bright as her, you’re sure to be in her shadow.

I got to make another character for a Masks campaign so I wanted to show them off here! I’m using the Protégé playbook this time meaning I also had the chance to design one of the NPCs since my character needed a mentor.

Meet Shafiq Bakir, also known as Starshroud, the protégé of the renowned superhero, Sunburst. Both Starshroud and Sunburst have gravity-related powers but while Sunburst has superhuman strength to aid her in combat, Starshroud has to make do with gadgets, like shock gauntlets and EMP charges, to get around in fights. It was really fun to play around with their designs as they’re meant to be a pair but contrast so wildly against each other. 

Sunburst is a celestial being, made from a drop of sunlight so she doesn’t really have a civilian identity or any understanding of what it means to be a normal human being. Shafiq, on the other hand, is just a kid that discovered they had gravity powers at age ten so they’re considered a late-bloomer when it comes to powers and they’re so painfully aware of how behind they are. Their color palettes also differ in that Sunburst is decked out in white and gold, befitting her cheerful disposition and loved hero status, and Starshroud sticks with navy blue and silvers, to better reflect their introverted personality and kinda staying in their mentor’s shadow. But I did want to give them elements that tied them together like having their respective celestial bodies on their chests and heels, chunky boot cuffs, flowy elements like scarves and capes, and Starshroud’s mask mimicking the shape of Sunburst’s eyes.

Sorry for talking so much but it’s been a minute since I made a couple of new characters from scratch so I wanted to gush about them. What are your thoughts on them?

Thinking about how Alex, Khalid, and Jin all used to live in the bayou/swamp marshes and were nothing but local menaces. How Jin was always freaking out Alex with his whole "I see dead people" bit, Alex never understood until they gained the sight themselves; how Khalid was always getting into trouble when he would sneak boys/girls into his grandma's house after 8. How Jin was KNOWN in the neighborhood for being able to knock grown men, twice his age and size, out by the time he was 15.
