Day 19- Boss Barinade is one of my favorites to fight. Now, getting past that Big Octo as a kid was always so hard. Seems so easy now.

if barinade from zelda ocarina of time had boss quotes
intro: "(akin to an evil laugh) BZZZZZZZ-BZZ-BZZ-BZZ-BZZ-BZZZZZZZZZ! So! You're the pes-zzzzzzz-t that took down my two azzzzzz-ssociates and have been cauzzzz-sing turmoil for my gang. Well, you're out of luck THIS time! My name izzzzzz Barinade, and this deity's.. surprisingly spacious innards… will now forever be our pers-zzz-onal playground. If you think we're gonna vacate and let you res-zzzzzzzzzz-cue that zzzzzora princess that easily, you really must have octorok for brains! Bzz-bz-bz! Bari soldiers! Shield formation! Protect me at all costs! …What? I'd do the szzzzzzame for you, right?"
defeat: "Wuzza-HUH?! What did you do?! Oh… Oh NOOOOOO! THE SZZZ-WELLING!!! IT'S AGONIZZZZZZING!!!!! Arrrrgh… You will RUE this day, you chartreuse cad!! Not even possessing all three of those accursed Spiritual Stones will keep the King of Light and Shadow's glorious army from DEZZZZZZZ-CIMATING YOOOOOOOUUUUUUUACK!!! (pop! plop.)"
screen reader friendly versions without the mispellings (imagine they draw out a bunch of "s" or "z" sounds like "zzzzzzz" throughout):

The Unsaved Guardian God
I had an Ocarina of Time thought.
So. How does Link save The Great Deku Tree?
The Great Deku tree opens his mouth, allows Link into his divine realm area. Link finds the parasitic cursed monster and kills it.
How does link save Jabu Jabu?
Link drops a fish. Jabu Jabu opens his mouth and swallows Link into his inner realm, where Link fights parasitic tentacles/worms, an infected octorok, and a bio-electric amoeba cluster/man-o-war jellyfish called Barinade.
Now. Given the context of the locations and the people there that are patroned by these great spirits and worshipped by them, we can presume that Volvagia should rightly be the patron spirit of the nearest sapient culture. That’d make the Gorons, right?
Except, no. The Gorons were not there initially, they just found Death Mountain more hospitable. They migrated there and settled, and there’s evidence that another civilization was there before them that had a relationship with Volvagia.
Their relationship with Volvagia was sour, as their initial goron hero wielded a large hammer and beat the fire dragon to death. No questions, nothing. But.. here’s the thing..
The dragon was eating gorons.
So what do we know about the guardian patron spirits/gods. The Forest Spirit and the River Spirit. They were corrupted and infected and Link had to physically go in and cleanse their divine realms and bodies of parasites.
A living moral being cannot even traverse Death Mountain without a magical garment that makes tolerating that sort of water evaporating heat possible.
Suppose it was actually 3/3 guardian spirits that were infected and corrupted. Forest, River and Mountain/Volcano. That Volvagia was similarly corrupted and infected.
Volvagia may have been desperately trying to devour the gorons in the hopes they’d clean out the evil and corruption in their soul. But failing, each time, because their only hope was a sapient being that could survive in their unending heat and fire.
Volvagia never got to experience a cleansing. Volvagia may have been defeated and destroyed- but unending and immortal, in some way. So their corruption carried on into whatever successor inherited their role and power. Making the next dragon, the one Link fights, sharing that rabidity.
We only see what may have been with Wind Waker, with Valloo, Jabun and the Great Deku Tree as patron gods of the Rito, islanders and koroks, respectively,
Volvagia may have been an unwritten tragedy. The HD remakes/ports changed some visuals and updated/upgraded some subtle things lore-wise.
I have a suspicion that some new information is going to give back context to this event, in the future.

Z64, Skulltula, Bosses, the truth of Dark Link
The Golden Skulltulas are never elaborated upon. They're a curse given to a family in Kakariko Town, and unless 100 Golden Skulltulas are defeated, the entire family themselves will also become Skulltula.
Is this the same curse Ganon inflicted on the tribes Hyrule? Did his dark influence turn people--into monsters?
To truly understand this, we need to review the bosses of Z64. To start, lettuce take a look at King Dodongo. He has the face of a Goron, rolls around like a Goron, and eats rock... Like a Goron.
Remember the Skulltulas? Who look and act like humans, but also... Like spiders? This seems too familiar...
But who are the other bosses?
Well Queen Gohma, The game suggests she's related to the mad Deku scrubs somehow... But with how they, the Kokiri, and the Skull Kids are connected but not... It's hard to really nail down.
Barinade seems to literally be a Giant Heart. Jabu Jabu's heart, specifically.
But what if the adult timeline bosses?
Phantom Gannon seems to be a Skull Kid specifically... In fact, the entire dungeon seems to be foreshadowing of the ordeals Link must face.
[Bandit Games] did a video on this idea that the Sister Poe's, were *actually* the sister sages. And part of that video inspired this.
I, on the other hand, think that the poe sisters are ACTUALLY just the Kokiri. And Phantom Gannon, either Skull Kid, or Mido.
Who is Fado? The question always asked about Zelda. It's Meg. But look closer at Meg's face, the spider-y skulltula-y evil-looking smile.
Referring back to the Bandit Games video, if the sisters aren't the sages, then who or what are they depicting? Well... The return to the forest is essentially "returning to your roots". And, knowing Link would possibly return, they set up this first temple, who Saria is the boss of.
Or imprisoned. Or. Phantom Gannon.
There are six sages, the first of which Raru has already met. And in the forest temple are 5 Poe's. The 4 sisters, and P.G. this says two things, one, Link must defeat 5 Temples.
Defeating the boss at the end releases the Sage.
But at the very end, after defeating *all* the shades(phantoms, or sages), you'll need to defeat Gannon.
We see this repeated again with Nabooru, who was imprisoned as an iron knuckle. And then you also need to defeat Twinrova. Or, Elder Gerudo. Potentially also Ganondorf's lesbian Mothers.
The video pointed out one thing I had not considered before. Dark Link is created from Link himself. Meaning; that this boss is indeed Link. Unlike the other Sages however; Link defeats his own shade instead of succumbing.
Speaking of evil children. Morpha, which looks like a Super Metroid power suit upgrade, also looks like something else. A tainted Zora egg. Without the glowy red enemy indicator, it looks exactly like the eggs that Link collects in Majora's Mask.
What is this then?
Gohma:spider-mom, Twinrova:Mother of Demise, Morpha: Ruto Egg.
That leaves two: Impa, and Daruna.
4 sisters and a Brother.
But here's the thing; Gorons all look like males to Hylians and call each other brother and use male pronouns for each other. But Daruna had a child that he named Link
5 sisters.
So that leaves the mini-bosses heretofore uncovered: Lizolfos, Big Octo, Flare Dancer, White Wolfos, Dead Hand, And 4 other Iron Knuckles.
Big Octo was probably what was actually causing Jabu Jabu's indigestion.
Flare Dancer can be only one person: The Scarecrow. He does not appear in the future at all. And, looks like a scarecrow on fire.
Hmm ... What else does this look like? Enemies from the dark world ala A link to the Past. Does that mean the "Dark World" is actually a Dark Future corrupted by Ganon and Demise? Or is it the power of the dark realm sleeping through, and warping people like what happened in Twilight Princess?
What is really upsetting to me however... Is Dead Hand's appearance... Doesn't he look like a salesman of sorts...? An... Unhappy... Mask Salesman?
This is the duality of Link:
Skulltula Slayer, and Skulltula Curse Breaker.

Thinking about some of my favorite boss monster designs of all time. Not necessarily my favorite boss fights of all time, but the monster designs themselves. I might make a bigger, more elaborate post on this after I’ve thought about it more, but like, Gohma from OoT (absolutely iconic to me), Barinade from OoT as well (funky and memorable), Japhet from Off (personification of creeping dread), Kamoshida from Persona 5 (such a perfect representation of a character arc), Ishmelga from Cold Steel 4 (just fucking awesome)… Influential, inspirational, just some of my faves that I tend to reflect on when working on boss monster design of my own.

after ocarina i think the zelda game most likely to get a straight adaptation is botw, primarily because its the the most recent non-sequel (not including the links awakening remake, which i think has 0 chance of being adapted because the whole dream island thing is less straightforward). if someone decides to try out a zelda game for the first time after seeing the movie, botw is probably the one theyre gonna go for
its also got a more complete narrative than a lot of other zelda games; its got a bit less reliance on things like having some prior idea who ganon/ganondorf are or on the audience being willing to just accept Video Game Stuff. like, the blight ganons with their clear story-related reasons for being obstacles are more immediately friendly to being adapted to a movie than like, barinade or diababa or jalhalla or any of the other many zelda bosses who i can barely remember the names of because their existence is basically limited to 'heres a monster to fight because this is a video game and we need a boss'. same with dungeons; the reasons why link needs to go into the divine beasts is more specifically tied into the story than most dungeons in most zelda games
