and the thing of it is. re: browser apps and extensions and malware etc. i was GOING to delete chrome and switch to firefox after i graduated (yes that was three months ago i know i know i was there. if you were me you would have fallen into the depression pit too ok). but i wanted to fix the stupid ass malware issue before doing that (it's been a problem for like. months at this point i've just been ignoring it because it's like a minor malware it just redirects searches and wants me download some bullshit dragon honey whatever extension). anyway so what i've done as of now, for everyone interested in this saga, all you fellow computer illiterate queens, well i've done nothing essentially but i did download firefox to use in the meantime. um well you all said it was easy to switch but i obviously didn't believe you but you were right i guess. again i've been in the depression pit. um still have to figure out the malware bit on chrome. because i really do not just want to leave it there even if it is just confined to chrome extensions, that still feels not good

Dammit Hedgi Day BEGINS

Prompts are now OPEN Until the 24th of September I’ll be taking prompts, and as you all voted, beginning on the 23rd (saturday) and continuing till the 25th the EIGHTH anniversary of my first Dammit Hedgi (courtesy of Mosylu on Can’t Live in Dreams, I'll be posting them for your suffering and enjoyment

What prompts am I accepting? Originally an ANGST fest, it can get a bit more broad especially in recent years, so: Many!  I reserve the right to ignore shipping requests and just write gen, DHD is a smut-free zone, and it’s my day so  I will write about characters with my viewpoints so prompt with caution if you like a character i do not :)  you may rig your prompt for fluff, but do not count on it. like I said, Angst. and it's Dammit Hedgi Day, not "awww Hedgi that's so sweeet" day.

Dammit Hedgi started with The Flash, but yeah I quit watching that at season 6 and i don't wanna think about anything past like... season 5 maybe. Send me Flash stuff anyways, but let's stick to the roots. same with young justice (i did NOT watch s4) and of course the LoT and early Supergirl characters live in my heart. Big clinging to Stargirl, though, and I'm currently loving My Adventures With Superman, getting more comfy writing Leverage characters...

Changes to the Popular Pairing List

Over nearly 9 years of Femslash Revolution, we have watched the popularity of many, many pairings rise and fall again. In order to better reflect this, we have decided to switch how we define our popular pairing list, which determines which pairings are too popular to be posted on Rarepair Thursdays.

Previously, posts were added to the list when they had appeared on the blog over 20 times across its whole duration. Under the new system, we will look at the number of appearances in the 10,000 most recent posts, which reflects approximately the last 18 months of content. Any pairing with more than 10 posts in that time span will be added to the list, while older pairings which no longer receive so many posts will be removed.

The Garden of Death is a Supergirl story that appears in Supergirl Vol 1, #3 (February 1973). It is one of the issues that comprised the early 1970s reboot of the Girl of Steel, in which Linda Danvers has gone to Vandyre University and adopted the persona of a modern, yet conflicted, young woman, balancing the angst of early adulthood with the demands of being a superheroine. Whereas this Supergirl incarnation is altogether more worldly and feminist than the teenage ingenue who featured in the 1960s Silver Age, she still is desperate for a boyfriend and wracked with confidence issues for all her intelligence and super abilities.

Linda is part of a college amateur dramatic society, and when one of her fellow actors tells her that his girlfriend, Mary Ann Brooks, is distraught, Linda checks her out as Supergirl, finding that the reason for Mary Ann’s distress is the arrest of her father, renowned botanist Albert Brooks, who is accused of the murder of gangster “Lucky Coin” Lacey. Finding the notion that a respected horticulturalist was guilty of a gangland slaying hard to believe, Supergirl decides to help Mary Ann by investigating the case.

Lacey’s body has been found on the grounds of Albert Brooks’ house and when Supergirl arrives with Mary Ann, the police ask her to assist in a sweep of the area. To her horror, and Mary Ann’s shock, the Girl of Steel’s X-Ray vision reveals the bodies of three other murdered mobsters, all stowed in hiding places in the grounds, or the Brooks house itself. The evidence against Mary Beth’s father seems conclusive.

Mary Ann is grief stricken at what she sees as Supergirl’s betrayal and flees from the grounds in tears. Meanwhile a sinister scientist called “Doc” is in conversation with a coin flicking mystery man, indicating all might not be what it seems.

Supergirl visits Brooks in prison and he gives her the name of a witness who can prove his innocence. Brooks is released but is promptly kidnapped by Doc and the coin flicking villain who turns out to be the real “Lucky Coin” Lacey. Doc, who is a brilliant, but unlicensed, plastic surgeon gave a hapless mobster Lacey’s face before the real Lacey arranged to have him and three other gangsters murdered. Lacey then had Doc operate on his face, turning it into a copy of Brooks, gambling that Supergirl would prove Brooks innocent, giving Lacey the perfect alibi, once the real Brooks was dead of course.

Supergirl meanwhile has worked out the plot and bursts in on Doc and Lacey just as they are about to off Brooks. The kidnapped botanist protests that he is the real Brooks while the surgically altered Lacey does the same. Supergirl however, is not fooled by the crook’s lies.

Detective style, the Girl of Steel has identified a metal residue on the fake Brooks’ fingers left by the continued flicking of the “lucky” coin that gave the crook his nickname. After subduing a fleeing Doc, Supergirl ties up the unmasked Lacey who cannot believe the superheroine has found him out. She releases Brooks in time to be reunited with his daughter. In the final panel, the super powered crime fighter is left lonely and miserable, watching her fellow students enjoy a Valentine’s Night dance, without a date and wondering why she can solve mysteries and capture murderers, but cannot solve her own problems.

This story is a little different from the rest of the series because it involves Supergirl in Batman style detecting, and no encounters with interplanetary criminals, monsters from another dimension or criminal masterminds. It also features a rare depiction of Linda tying up a bad guy she has captured, therefore making it a nice addition to this blog.

The Garden of Death was written by Cary Bates and illustrated by Art Saaf and Vince Colletta.

What about an Arrowverse Crossover AU? Stargirl and the JSA get stranded on Earth Prime by accident and meet the Flash (Barry Allen) and Supergirl.

It's actually very funny that you say that, anon, because that currently is happening (or will be happening very shortly) in comic form, in the Earth-Prime series! (Sorry, I work at a comic shop, so I absolutely have to plug comics whenever possible. The first issue with Batwoman was actually really good, though!)

I'm going to be honest, I only watched part of the first season of Supergirl, and I stopped watching the Flash before the Season 5 finale (minus an episode here or there), so I can't 100% speak on current/all character dynamics, but I'll try my best!

Caitlin, Cisco, and Chester 10000% adopt Beth. Cisco wants to replicate the goggles but Beth refuses to let him touch them. Beth watches Caitlin work as the Team Flash doctor and realizes that she wouldn't have to work in a hospital if she followed in her mother's footsteps. By proxy, Rick would also spend a decent amount of time with these three, and would probably ask about if anyone on Team Flash could help him fix the Hourglass.

Cisco and Chester would also hang out with Mike quite a bit, teaching him engineering basics and bonding over the multiverse's various pop culture institutions. Frost would also really enjoy Mike's company, I feel, and they would totally spend time bonding. Kara would totally spend a good amount of time with Courtney, flying around with her on patrol. Kara would be a huge advocate for training the JSA, offering to stand in as a villain who the JSA could come together to defeat.

I actually think that Yolanda would really like spending time with Iris and Team Citizen, just because she already wanted to step away from all the action of crimefighting with the JSA, so she would be super invested in the closest thing to "normal" she could find. Iris and Barry would absolutely offer to house the entire JSA, thinking that their experiences with Nora and Bart qualify them to take care of five teenagers. Joe and Cecile would have to step in to intervene and take at least two of them.

And Cisco would realize that without the extrapolators from the original Multiverse, not only could he not send the JSA home, but he didn't even realize that there was a Multiverse at all anymore, and would maybe reconsider getting rid of his powers because he's actively out on the field, anyway, and still working with Team Flash, and maybe it would be useful to know that Multiversal threats and allies are still a thing.

Until the 24th of September I’ll be taking prompts, and then on the 25th, the SEVENTH anniversary of my first Dammit Hedgi (courtesy of Mosylu on Can’t Live in Dreams), I’ll post all of ‘em! (possibly beginning posting on the 24th if i get too many because I do not want to be posting one fic every ten minutes for 12 hours lol) Everything will be tagged “Dammit Hedgi Day 2022″ for easy location or blacklisting. First ship: I cannot quite remember which came first in my timeline, but I remember being hardcore obsessed with both Felicity and Gus from Road to Avonlea and Jeannie and Tony Nelson from I Dream of Jeannie as a tiny, tiny child. I think Road to Avonlea might have been slightly ahead of I Dream of Jeannie?

2. First OTP: If we’re talking, like, first ship in the internet age, I think Ron/Hermione? I also wrote a lot of incredibly bad fanfiction about Christian and Satine from Moulin Rouge at around that same time, in the cursed years 2001-2002. They were my whole sparkly red heart.

3. Current favorite ship: Luke and Lorelai, 'cause it’s GG rewatch time, beeyatches! In terms of currently-airing shows, Roy/Keeley and GUILLERMO AND NANDOR!

4. Your ship since the first minute: I knew Eve/Villanelle was my otp from the time I first saw this promo poster before the show aired. And I was RIGHT! But I couldn’t have known just how right I was.

5. Ship(s) you wish had been endgame: Ahahaha. Ahahahahahaha! Ahahaha. Ha. I’ll still give this one to Barney/Robin. I’m bitter forevs. I’m mad that I can’t bear to watch this show ever again, because rewatching my favorite beloved comedies is basically my life’s work. But not so this time, friends.

Also, Destiel, because why the f not. It would have been so fun for us as a fandom society and I want that.

6. Ship you wish was canon: OSCAR/ANDY! And, like, Rory/Paris, duh. There’s a part of me that’s just always really smarting over Oscar/Andy not happening. Maybe because their canon love lives in the latter seasons were so wretched, and it could have been so good.

7. Ship that most of the fandom hates but you love: I know that Rory/Logan has a fair amount of fans, but I’m still going to say Rory/Logan because I feel like the Rory/Logan hate runs so deep and long in Gilmore Girls fandom and has since the show was airing! (I may have mid-2000s Gilmore Girls fandom trauma, haha.) But also I love them!!

Also, Beth and her terrible husband on Good Girls (which I still need to watch season four of). MWA HA HA! Deansie.

One of the things I'm loving so far about Supergirl is that Kara is powerful but also soft, and soft in a complex way. It's something I feel like we don't see enough in female hero's, or depictions of powerful women in general. We love a badass who can kick ass and defy what women have historically been expected to be, she's tough, she's fearless, she's bold and unafraid to take up her space in the world. And who wouldn't love someone so exciting and brazen? But there are so many ways to be strong and to be a feminist. One of the strongest choices you can make in life is to be soft, and that isn't to say Kara isn't naturally soft, because that girl is an absolute golden retriever puppy walking around on two legs in a sweater, but she has made the choice to walk through the world without closing off her heart. Something that obviously is not easy after losing everything you know and love, even the mission you were given to carry on the legacy of all you lost, and we do see Kara struggle with this at times. She is soft in that she is kind, generous, and compassionate to even the cruelest of those she encounters, but she's not perfect. Kara is soft without being reduced to a flat morally pure character, which I think can be hard to balance with someone brimming with idealism. Yet from early on we see our hero struggle with managing anger and aggression and those struggles being under a microscope, because of being a public figure. We see her being blatantly xenophobic towards Daxams despite being a person who values equality and empathy, something she unlearns gradually. In one of the episodes I just watched we hear Kara mention to J'onn how for a while after having lost her family she had shut out and pushed away her adoptive mom, before making the choice to let her in and allowing that love in her life.

It's easy in an initial glance to mistake Supergirl as naively idealistic, and morally pure, in a way I feel like we see lots on TV particularly in female characters. But if you keep watching it becomes clear that she's not perfect and that the fight to walk with an open heart and keep faith in people is a choice she's been making her whole life, and one she continues to make with each challenge she's faced with. Kara doesn't let the world change who she is, and that can take incredible strength.

TEAM BAT YOU’RE TOO TRUSTING.

Anyway, from my vague memories of the Red Hood arc in the comics, I think this kind of still tracks with the comic arc but they’ve sort of diverged the motives between Kate and Alice. Alice gets the vengeance part and hate-on and Kate gets the original Red Hood villain arc.

But also, Kate being the biggest threat in Gotham is just, it’s very much chef’s kiss.

I know Flash and Supergirl have done some similar storylines but this is Kate herself doing these things, well not Kate but Circe. BUT, Kate will still end up with all of the memories of what Circe’s done.

Also, I love when the hero becomes the Big Bad, there’s more danger with them, in a way. Because they know all the tricks the heroes do, and they have the skills too.

It’s why Darth Vader was so terrifying as an opponent.

Also, Kate defacing the Batsuit into something similar to what comics Red Hood wore, and Luke and Ryan developing their own suit, becoming their own hero. It’s not handed down to them.

But also, Circe doing all these things is very similar to (forgive me for using fictional vampire terms) when Angel (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) loses his soul and becomes Angelus. It’s not technical Liam the Human doing the horrific things, it’s a demon that took over Liam’s Human body.

Alice’s emotions were, to use a Vampire Diaries term-- ‘switched off’ but that’s still Alice-Beth.

Circe isn’t Kate and Kate isn’t Circe but Kate will remember every terrible thing Circe’s ever done, and she’ll remember enjoying causing so much mayhem and visiting harm on the people she loves. 

There is no way in hell that Kate is ever going to want to be Batwoman, hell, I doubt she’d even want to be a hero after that. She’ll be a wreck when she comes back to herself.

So by rule of three -- Ryan’s definitely gonna win the next fight with Circe, and Kate will finally remember Mary. I really believe that Mary will be key to Kate.

Poor Ryan has to watch all this happen and forced to go back to the old life that she lived, and lose the bat suit too (only to get a better suit after -- wooo!).

Ryan’s proven again and again why she is the Batwoman.

You know the ironic thing here, Roman Sionis is still a better dad than Jacob... which is you know, saying a lot, since Sionis is Black Mask.
