School Live!/Gakkou Gurashi!
Yes i’m currently obsessing over a 7 year old anime.
Ok, so after rewatching the anime and rereading volumes 1-5 of the manga, here are my thoughts on the comparison of the two.
The anime absolutely understands the potential of the story and capitalizes on that spectacularly, it took the prompt the manga gave and absolutely ran with it to create a much more emotional experience that feels like a Randy Savage elbow drop on the gut. I can’t stress enough how it takes the characters of Yuki and Megu-nee and elevates them to the best versions these characters can be.
However, in the process of slicing up and rearranging the series to suit Yuki’s delusions, it does end up hurting the characters. The anime makes sure to take a moment to give back a little to Kurumi and Mii-kun, giving the former a new layer about feeling forced into the role she’s in while keeping her as the emotional bedrock of the group and expanding the later’s arc on discovering the difference between surviving and living and to take life in her own hands. Still, I really liked parts like Kurumi resorting to killing to relieve stress and Mii-kun being a little bitchy armchair psychologist that the anime drops. I especially miss Kurumi straight up about to knock Mii-kun’s teeth out for talking down to her. She’s too cool-headed in the anime.
Tumblr media
Yuki also has some great scenes showing she is somewhat aware of her surroundings, she knows when the others are fighting and gives advice even when it feels like she shouldn’t understand whats going on, but I get why the anime skipped over that to keep us mostly in her age regressed mind.
Tumblr media
Sadly though, poor Yuuri gets shafted, and goes from a pretty great parallel of Yuki to a pretty one-note big sister trope she was originally meant to be a subversion of. In the manga, Yuuri’s demeanor is just as fake as Yuki’s delusions, but when the pressure breaks both of them, Yuki takes action while Yuuri collapses into depression. There’s several scenes with Yuuri falling apart piece by piece until ultimately snapping. In the anime she just looks kind of sad and scared in the last few episodes and that’s about it.
On that note, the biggest difference to me is the art style. I get the moe aesthetic is very important for the themes at play, but the manga knows when to drop it and get serious while the anime feels like they’re hesitating and don’t want the waifus to ugly cry too much. Just compare Yuuri’s breakdown in the anime vs the manga, the first is just sad anime girl but the second is gut wrenching.

Or THAT moment

Ultimately both are great, and I think they fully compliment each other. Experiencing one elevates the other. I am truly, genuinely thankful for the series being so different from the manga for, if nothing else, it lets me stay just a bit longer with these amazing characters.

001. DanganRonpa, 002. Josuhan, 003. Yuri Plisetsky. :3
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
Favorite character: GUNDAM. MY SWEET SWEET BOY.
Least Favorite character: God what’s her face...the really short bitchy one from the 2nd game lmao. Hiyoko I think her name was lkjdsafsdf. I had to google it lmao. I usually love bitchy girl characters but she was like insufferable to me.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Gundam/Sonia, Makoto/Byakuya, Genocide Jack/Byakuya, Mondo/Chihiro, Makoto/Kirigiri
Character I find most attractive: Gundam!! omg my prince of darkness.
Character I would marry: lmao I’d say Gundam but I rly don’t think either of us are the romance types lskjdadsf.
Character I would be best friends with: I rly wanna be friends with Gundam and Sonia lmao. We can be the airhead trio lost in lala land who day dream too much and take care animals together. I’d also really love to be friends with Chiaki and play video games with her.
a random thought: I really hope that in some fictional timeline, Gundam meets Phichit from Yuri on Ice and they discuss hamsters for hours upon hours on end.
An unpopular opinion: I rly don’t like the headcanon that Chihiro is a transwoman alsdkjsdaf. I’m okay if people see them that way and relate to them that way! I encourage people to explore characterization however they want and however they need to or relate to, it’s all fine and I support all of it! But me personally I don’t vibe with it and it makes me uncomfortable asflkjsadfsafd. omg pls no one yell at me ahaha...
My Canon OTP: ...was there even any canon pairings in DR I don’t even remember lmao. I can’t remember what was canon or what has been heavily implied in fandom lol. But u know what??? I’m just gonna say Sakura and Asahina.
My Non-canon OTP: Gundam and Sonia!!! God they are so perfect together I love them lmao.
Most Badass Character: KIRIGIRI HOLY CRAP. I LOVE HER.
Most Epic Villain: JUNKO!!!! Holy crap I love u girl u doing everything wrong good job sweetie i support u.
Pairing I am not a fan of: Honestly i’m really not involved in the DR fandom enough to really know what pairings exist hahaha. First one that comes to mind is Sonia/Souda tho so I guess I will say that.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Hiyoko. Not even that they necessarily screwed her up like I feel like she was exactly what the writers intended her to be, but even at the end of her arc I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to hate her or feel bad for her lol.
Favourite Friendship: While it’s obvious I really, really don’t care for Hiyoko, I really loved her friendship with Mahiru.
Character I most identify with: Chiaki!! Omg i relate to her so much lol.
Character I wish I could be: god i wouldn’t wanna be any of them, nope, not even if u paid me a million dollars have u evern played dangan ronpa.
002 | Send me a ship and I will tell you:
When I started shipping them: God I really don’t remember lmao. I wanna say during Highway Star??? Lmao it was either that or the Gambling arc.
My thoughts: I LOVE THEM. Like they’re not even enemies, or rivals, but they really just don’t vibe w/ each other and act like petty assholes to each other. I mean jfc just look at the gambling arc they are such petty morons. XD But then slowly throughout the series you can see them awkwardly and slowly come to respect each other while still being assholes to each other and it’s wonderful. Then by the Rohan spin offs they are actually friends and go get coffee at the cafe together lmao. They truly are a slow and awkward burn couple and i love it.
What makes me happy about them: Everything about them is so entertaining lol. From the pettiness to the awkward support they give each other to the fact they always gotta be more extra than the other. It’s like these 2 morons care about each other but they’re too busy pretending they can’t stand each other hahaha. Oh boys....
What makes me sad about them: Nothing about them per se, but i’m really sad we don’t get to see more of them actually getting along. :c
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I haven’t read Josuhan fanfic in a long while, but I always got annoyed when ppl wrote Rohan really flatly. Like his personality was pretty much “asshole” and he had no other traits lol. I mean yes, don’t get me wrong, Rohan is 100% an asshole but like...he has other traits too? XD
Things I look for in fanfic: THEM AWKWARDLY TAKING CARE OF EACH OTHER HOLY CRAP. Them awkwardly being affectionate with each other, Rohan being in denial about his feeligs for Josuke. Just them being 2 dorks in an awkward budding romance hahaha. :’D But I also really like the established relationship fic where they’ve been together for years and their affection is still hella awkward because that’s just who Rohan is as a person lol. But it’s fine bc it’s so them!!
My wishlist: God araki just give me a spin off abt Josuke and Rohan being friends and getting along. That’s all I want.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: To be honest I really can’t imagine Rohan getting involved romantically with anyone lol, even Josuke canonically. I really only ship him with Rohan, and occasionally Koichi. Josuke on the other hand, I would be ok if he ended up with Okuyasu even if I much prefer them as bros hahaha.
My happily ever after for them: Just let them be close. Let them admit they like each other. Let them be friends. I don’t care if they are romantic with each other I just want to see them genuinely enjoying each other haha!
003 | Give me a character & I will tell you:
How I feel about this character: GOD I LOVE THEM THEY ARE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE YURI PLISETSKY SAVED YURI ON ICE. Seriously I literally watched the entire show just for him laskjfasdfasfd. If he wasn’t there I would have dropped it.
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: YUURI/YURI HOLY DICKS YO. Srsly that was the theme of my yuri on ice blog, their relationship lmaooooo. I been shippin’ them since day 1 i am an OG Yuuri/Yuri shipper. I can tell you EVERYTHING. I also ship Viktor/Yuri, Viktor/Yuuri/Yuri, JJ/Yuri, Georgi/Yuri, and Mila/Yuri!!
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Otabek and Yuri!!! Oh my god their friendship gives me so much life hahaha. It’s so wonderful. ;_____; It actually makes me really emotional because it reminds me of the time I made my first friend aha.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Man do I have an unpopular Yuri opinion??? I feel like all of my various headcanons are generally accepted, ship ones aside.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: NOTHING MY BOY GOT EVERYTHING I WANTED FOR HIM. (tho I really would have liked a reconciliation scene between him and Viktor but whatever)
Favorite friendship for this character: OTABEK AND YURI!!!! And while I adore romantic yuuri/yuri, I also really, really truly adore Yuuri and Yuri’s platonic friendship.
My crossover ship: I don’t rly do or enjoy crossovers ;;;;;;; I’M SORRY.........

Playing with Fire (Otayuri AU) -
"I can't believe," Yuri grits out, "that you called me here to fucking ditch me."
"No, Yuri, of course not! You got it all wrong. I'm not ditching you," Victor corrects, lifting a finger and wiggling it in front of Yuri's face. "You push yourself too hard. Yuuri is a new face to the company. The challenge will do him well," Victor says, gesturing widely with his fork.
Yuri stares at him, flabbergasted. His steak is running cold in front of him but Yuri doesn't find his appetite. This sudden invitation of Victor's to lunch together at this restaurant seems like a damn trap.
Yuri has always been the star of their ballet company, or else, Victor's company, as he was the director. But then a fucking fat dancer from Japan had showed up two months ago and now Victor was saying Katsuki was 'more suited' to the leading role than Yuri, who had been rehearsing it since the beginning of the season.
"You just say that because you're fucking him," Yuri bursts out. Some patrons look their way and give him sour looks. This is Victor's fault for always choosing these flamboyant places.
Victor chokes on his food, primly dabbing his napkin on his lips and taking a sip of his wine. "Now, Yuri," he says, cheeks tinged pink. "That's not nice of you. I'm a professional and so is Yuuri."
Yuri rolls his eyes, brimming with fury. The food tastes bland, and the steak like a slab of rubber.
"You've gone so long with the leading role already," Victor continues, as though any of his madness would make Yuri change his mind. "Let yourself bloom in another role," he gestures with both his hands.
"The only thing that will bloom will be my fist on your face," Yuri threatens, but is interrupted by a clear of a throat beside them. The guy who'd led them in to their table is standing beside them, giving Yuri tiny reproachful glances.
"Is there anything I can help you two gentlemen with?" He asks.
"No, everything is perfect, thank you," Victor smiles.
"Actually, yes," Yuri turns to him, "this tastes like shit," he points at his food. The maître's eyes widen suspiciously, "so you can take it back."
Victor opens his mouth to excuse Yuri's behaviour but the man simply nods and takes Yuri's plate, telling him very slowly that "I'll take it back to the kitchen, sir. I'm sure our chef would be happy to prepare you another."
Yuri watches him go but it doesn't give him the satisfaction he was hoping for. Still, the food really was horrible and Yuri still wants Victor to drop dead in a ditch and never have his body found.
"That wasn't really necessary," Victor tells him, some of the mirth gone from his face. "I'm known here, this will look bad."
"Really? How do you think it'll look on me when I call my parents and tell them I'm not on the leading role after fucking all?" Yuri snarls, taking a long gulp out of his wine. "My education was fucking expensive."
Victor rolls his eyes, humming at the flavour of his fish, with vegetables and a lot of fucking fancy shit. "You're still looking at it the wrong way. You need a different perspective."
"No, I need the leading role. It's mine!" Yuri crosses his arms, "I went to the audition, Lilia agreed, Yakov agreed, you agreed! And now you want this pig from god knows where to take my role? Absolutely fucking not."
"Yuuri is an excellent dancer, he just hasn't been given the chance you have."
Yuri sets his empty wine glass on the table, fuming. "Yuuri isn't better than me," he accuses, setting his elbow on the table and pointing a pale finger Victor's way. "He should work as hard as I do to be at my level. He's fat, for god's sake. I don't even know how you can fuck him. I bet he weighs a ton and you must have to go missionary all the time."
"Sir," the waiter comes back with a new dish for Yuri. He's red in the face, probably from hearing Yuri's crass words. Yuri takes it from his hand.
"Thank you," Victor tells the waiter in his behalf. Yuri scowls at him until he's gone.
The food smells divine, at least, and Yuri stabs the steak, imagining it is Victor's face. "Have Lilia and Yakov even agreed to it?" He asks, not that he's considering it. Yuri has had to claw his way up to get this leading role and wasn't about to be put aside because one of his colleagues was whoring himself out to the director.
Victor tilts his head in thought, avoiding Yuri's eyes. "They both agreed with me that maybe always being the star of the show has gotten to your head."
Yuri cocks his head incredulously. "What?!"
Victor nods. "You've grown to be a bit of a... how do they call them? Prima donna, a diva."
Yuri arches one eyebrow, gritting his teeth. "How is that?"
Victor looks pointedly down at Yuri's food, probably meaning the scandal he'd just made. Yuri rolls his eyes, bringing the steak up to his mouth. Victor stares at him expectantly, twirling his wine as Yuri chews. Yuri narrows his eyes at him and raises a hand to call the waiter.
-
Otabek was not having a good day.
His little sister had come from Kazakhstan to spend her vacations with him, as per his mother's idea. She had woken with a cold this morning and seeing as Otabek had had to work, he had to send her away to her holiday camp along with a note to the caretaker. He made the mistake of telling his mother that and now she wouldn't stop calling. Not to mention his kitchen is always a chaos during lunch time and there's a stuck-up client complaining about his food.
Serik, his sous-chef, tries to avoid his path as best as he can, managing the cooks and saving their skin from Otabek's mood. Otabek isn't an irate person, you see, he's usually stoic and silent to a fault. But when he's in a bad mood he becomes ten times more sombre and that's undermining.
When the waiter comes back to the kitchen with Otabek's steak in hand Serik grimaces. Otabek is busy supervising the sauces and a herb crusted fillet but upon catching sight of the waiter he sighs.
"It's the guy from table three again," the waiter gulps before saying. He's young here and still new to how bitchy clients can be. "He's asking you if you've ever seen a steak in your life."
Serik and the rest of the cooks look down at their counters and avoid Otabek's eyes. Otabek silently pushes Serik to his station and grabs a clean set of cutlery. He cuts the steak and eats it, dropping the cutlery on the sink and grabbing the plate.
"Beka-" Serik says, but Otabek holds up a hand to pacify him, taking his hat off and moving past the kitchen doors.
All the patrons turn to look when he exits the kitchen in his uniform and apron, but Otabek keeps his eyes set on table three, where he can see the silver head belonging to that pompous guy that came here often. He had never complained about Otabek's food before but as they say, there's a time for everything. There's also a platinum blonde sitting across from him and Otabek realizes he must be the one who was trying to humiliate him inside his own kitchen. His hair is long and kept in a half bun, straight locks falling to the middle of his back. He is as thin as a beanpole, inside a leopard print jumper and leggings. He looks cold to the touch.
Otabek drops the plate in front of him, paying half a mind to the silence that has fallen around the room. The blonde pointedly turns to appraise him with raised eyebrows, green eyes raking over his frame. He bites the corner of his bottom lip thoughtfully.
Surprisingly, it's the silver haired one who speaks up.
"We're so sorry about this. Please forgive Yuri, he isn't feeling well today."
"Oh, fuck you, Victor," the blonde – Yuri – turns to his companion to hiss.
Otabek holds a hand up. He's not interested in whatever is going on between them. "Sorry, but there's nothing wrong with my steak."
Yuri crosses his arms, "Sorry, but this isn't a steak."
Otabek frowns, trying to swallow past his rapidly inflating anger. "Sir," he says, setting his hands on his hips, "you're welcome to come into my kitchen and watch me prepare another steak for you."
"That won't be necessary-" Victor tries to intervene, but Yuri throws his napkin on the table and gets up.
"I would like that."
Otabek raises one eyebrow, stepping back and extending his arm to give way to him. Yuri eyes him suspiciously, but does walk ahead and in the direction of the kitchen. Otabek holds the door to him, and there's a hitch in the noise inside the kitchen when Yuri walks in followed by Otabek.
Serik gives him a wide-eyed stare and holds up his hands in question. Otabek shakes his head and motions for Yuri to follow him. He shoves the pots away from his station and gets a fresh steak from the fridge. He shoves it under Yuri's nose, who does nothing but glance down at it and nod.
Otabek salts the steak and sets it to grill. The client, Yuri, leans against the counter and turns his nose at the steam. "It was half raw," Yuri says, glancing at the steak.
"It is supposed to be half raw, it says in the menu" Otabek retorts, moving to the board where new orders have been attached to. "I need four main dishes and two appetizers," he shouts to the kitchen, motioning for Sara to take it. He can feel Yuri following on his heels as he goes dipping the spoons to taste the sauces.
"I didn't want it half-raw," Yuri insists. He sounds like a bratty child, upset that he doesn't get his way.
"Then you should have made that clear to the waiter," Otabek snaps. Yuri narrows his eyes at him, fisting his hands by his side. There's a palpable lowering on the volume of the kitchen, and Otabek sighs, shoving past Yuri to manage his steak. "Sorry," he says, turning it upside down, "I'm having a difficult day."
"Well, so do fucking I," Yuri replies harshly. "Victor wants to give what I've earned to a guy he's fucking."
Otabek frowns, dribbling sauce on Yuri's plate before settling the still sizzling steak on it. "Well, whatever it is, good luck," he hands the plate to Yuri. "Is it good enough for you, sir?"
Yuri glances at the plate and then back at Otabek, raising an eyebrow.
"It's on the house," Otabek clarifies. Yuri takes the plate and Otabek sees him out of the kitchen.
Serik has delivered his order and sidles up to Otabek while he supervisions Sara and Emil. "What was that? He was freaking hot."
Otabek gives him a cross glance and nudges him back to his station. "Back to your business, Serik."
-
Alina is kicking some rocks in front of the camp when Otabek pulls over to pick her up. A woman with the camp's logo on her shirt steps up when he gets out of the car.
"Mr Altin, thank you for coming. The camp's doctor saw to her and we agreed that Alina needed some rest, right sweetheart?" She beams at Alina, all the while nudging her towards her brother. Alina doesn't say anything, walking up to Otabek and getting his hand while he thanks the caretaker.
Alina looks miserable, with a clogged nose and an incessant coughing. Otabek takes her to the hospital and has to wait two hours before a doctor comes see to her. He prescribes her a cough syrup and a couple pills should she have a fever.
"It's best if she rests for a while, so holiday camps aren't a very good idea," he adds, giving Otabek a careful glance that has to mean he's a shitty father. Otabek doesn't say anything against that impression because he and Alina share the same surname and practically the same face, not to mention he's too tired to care.
"I work all day long," Otabek says, folding the prescription when the doctor hands it to him.
The doctor shrugs. "Isn't there a place she can stay at? You could look into babysitters," he gets up and leaves.
Otabek sighs heavily. Alina looks up at him, wrapping her hand around his when they leave the hospital. "I don't need a babysitter. I'm already eleven," she retorts.
"Alina, there's no way you're coming to the kitchen with me."
"Why not? I can just watch you cooking. You said you'd teach me."
"Yes, but my working kitchen is hardly the place for teaching."
Alina gives a put-upon sigh. "You can be so boring. Mom's right, you need a girlfriend."
-
Otabek ends up taking his sister to work. He can't find a babysitter or anyone to watch her and the manager says he doesn't mind if she colors inside his office. For a sick child, Alina barely looks the part, excitedly climbing up the steps to the kitchen.
At this time in the morning most of his cooks have yet to arrive, but Otabek makes sure to come in earlier to keep an eye on them and supervise the food that comes in. Alina, open-mouthed, goes from one corner to another, watching everything.
"Alina, don't touch that," Otabek quips when she comes too close to his cutting knife.
She pouts and saunters over to him. "Can I have an apron too?"
"No, but you should probably tie your hair if you're going to stay here."
The caterer's van soon backs up into the alley and the men start bringing in the food. Otabek checks the vegetables for any dry leaves, the meat cuts for any excessive fat and the fruits for any mould. His cooks start filtering in, first Serik and then Sara, who gasps at Alina and calls her cute.
"I'm Alina," she introduces herself, hopped onto the counter right next to Otabek.
"I'm Sara, nice to meet you," Sara smiles, putting on her uniform and tying her apron around her waist. She sidles up to Otabek to whisper. "I didn't know you had a daughter."
"She's my sister," Otabek grins.
"Oh," Sara makes, "she looks so much like you though."
"Chef," Emil calls once entering, throwing a thumb over his shoulder to indicate the door. "There's someone outside wanting to talk to you."
"To me?" Otabek frowns, but leaves Serik to the task of managing the vegetables. "Stay here," he tells Alina, and unwraps his apron before exiting.
Otabek's expecting the manager or the restaurant's owner, a rich, bleach blond woman in her forties that sometimes shows up to flirt with him. He's not expecting the blond costumer from yesterday, all lean lines and tall silhouette, resting against the bar counter while checking his cell phone. His hair is untied, a lock curled behind his ear. He's in black ripped jeans and an oversized black hoodie. He glances up at Otabek when the chef comes to a stop next to him.
"Hey, so," he begins, turning his body in Otabek's direction, "Victor made me come here apologize to you," he rolls his eyes. "Apparently, I behaved like a child."
Otabek makes an unkind hum in the back of his throat. "Victor?" He tilts his head.
"The guy from yesterday. The one I was eating with."
"Oh," Otabek nods, and there comes an uneasy silence. The barman arrives and gives the blond a good look and Otabek a respectable nod.
"So," the blond continues, glancing away and throwing his hair over one shoulder. "Just so you would know I'm a ballet dancer."
Otabek raises his eyebrows. "Hn."
"Victor is my company's director and our next performance will be in the Opera House," he moves to open the leopard print backpack that dangles from one of his shoulders, producing a cat-shaped wallet. Otabek finds it oddly girly for someone whose kindest words were 'hey', and the blond gives him a hard glance that is meant to dare him to comment on it.
In that moment Alina chooses to come after her brother, eyeing the blond costumer and coming to a stop next to Otabek. "Alina, I told you to stay inside," Otabek says.
"Sara sent me to ask for you," Alina says and then curiously turns her face to the blond. "Hi, I'm Alina."
The guy gives an amused huff. "Hi, I'm Yuri," and then looks at Otabek weirdly. "I'm Yuri," he murmurs, probably realizing he hadn't cared to introduce himself earlier. He produces two tickets from his wallet and hands them to Otabek. "Victor sent you spare tickets for the performance in case of any hard feelings," he shrugs, "he probably just wants to keep a good impression because he thinks you're awesome or some shit, oh-" he pauses, glancing at Alina and then warily at Otabek. "My bad."
"It's okay," Otabek says, and Alina peers at the tickets curiously.
"What is this?" She asks.
Yuri exchanges a look with Otabek. "Ahn, it's for my ballet performance."
"Cool," she gasps, "I do ballet too at my school."
Yuri grins and gives a small nod. "Great, so," he puts his wallet away and shifts on his feet, sighing, "you should come if you'd like," he shrugs at Otabek, "you can bring your kid or your wife."
"She's my sister," Otabek replies, "and I'm not married."
"Oh," Otabek swears he can see him blushing. Yuri glances quickly at Otabek's hands. "Anyway, you should come so Victor knows I got them delivered."
"I'll try," Otabek says. Yuri nods but pauses at the door before exiting.
"Your food wasn't bad yesterday. I just said that because I wanted to fu-" he glances at Alina, smirking up at him next to her brother's leg. "Just wanted to annoy Victor."
"Did it work?"
"Hn?"
"Did you annoy him?"
"Yes," he shrugs.
Otabek nods. He watches Yuri go and nudges Alina back into the kitchen. "Oh my god, Beka, he's super pretty! We have to go, we have to, please say we will."
"We will see," Otabek answers.
Sara raises one eyebrow when he enters the kitchen, giving a small smirk. "You look flushed, who was out there?"
Otabek sighs. "The costumer from yesterday."
Sara frowns. "Which one?"
"His name is Yuri," Alina says loudly. Everyone in the kitchen turns to her. Oh, but they love a gossip. "He gave Beka tickets for his show-"
"Alina, stop, it wasn't like that-"
"He dances ballet," she twirls on a foot demonstratively.
"Free tickets?" Serik inquires, raising his eyebrows teasingly at Otabek.
"It's not coming out for free, you know that," Sara winks in passing at the fridge.
"Okay, enough. All of you, back to your stations," he shouts. They hand their heads and murmur a string of "Yes, chef." He walks towards Alina, who looks all too smitten for a sick child. "Alina, you go color. I'll start work in a few minutes and you can't be here."
"I'll tell mom about Yuri," she murmurs evilly.
"No, you won't," Otabek says carefully.
"Why not?" She gives him a smug smile.
"Because then I won't take you to his performance."
Alina gasps. "Foul, he gave you a spare ticket!"
"He didn't say I had to use it."
"Just you wait until I tell mom," she retorts crossly, taking her seat at the manager's desk and opening her coloring book. Otabek grins and kisses her forehead.
"Send for me if you feel anything. Okay?"
She nods. "Beka?"
"Hn?"
"Love you."

Cosplayer AU cot’d
Yuuri attends Otakon every year after that, in handmade costumes that he never enters. Not even for hall contest judging. He notes times and dates for group photoshoots for the popular series and blends into them, not ever trying to stick out.
He learns more and more, taking sewing courses as electives in high school to get better and improve. They let him bring his cosplays for his projects, his teacher always so intrigued by the reference photos.
In an art class, he meets a boy named Phichit. Phichit is like, insane, at sculpting, casting, and even welding. He’s also super into anime and manga, and he begins attending Otakon with Yuuri when they get old enough to drive themselves. They spend their weekends together crafting---Phichit makes the props, Yuuri sews the outfits.
It’s a great partnership, and they start getting noticed by the community.
When they turn 17, they enter the hall contest for the first time as Kurogane and Fai D. Flowright from TRC. It’s an image CLAMP made for Chapter 204---they’re in outfits based on historical samurai gear. Phichit cafted the bow, sword, and armor, while Yuuri sewed and styled the wigs.
“Stop panicking,” Phichit says with a poke as they wait their turn.
“I’m fine,” Yuuri fires back.
They’re close enought to see the judges---and...oh god. One of them is Chris Giacometti, who is mostly a photographer now. One is Mila Babicheva, who was on their WCS team the year before with Sara Crispino. They won the Brother prize, which they said was pleasing.
The third is Yuuri’s idol, his raison d’etre for this hobby, why he can sew and style fake hair like it’s his job.
He cut his hair last year to the chagrin of the community, saying he wanted to branch out away from the light haired pretty boys with long locks after he did the Yoshitaka Amano version of Vampire Hunter D. Here he sits dressed as Nagisa Kaworu in his full plugsuit.
Yuuri isn’t fond of Shinji, but he’s never wished to cosplay him more.
Phichit digs his knuckles into Yuuri’s back, forcing him to the table.
Chris raises an eyebrow---he’s in a comfortable outfit, undoubtedly changing for the masquerade, and he has glasses on. Mila is Fujiko Mine. “So,” begins, “KuroFai. Can we see your references?”
Phichit hands her a binder. It’s not just references---it’s progress shots of all the construction with them visibly in frame so there’s no doubt about the construction. The judges make various impressed murmurs.
“May I see your seams?” Victor asks with a smile. He has red contacts in, and it’s not bad, but Yuuri’s seen him pictures out of cosplay with his natural eye color. It’s a lot prettier.
Yuuri holds out the long sleeve, turning it inside out. Victor runs his fingers over it with a serious look in his eyes. He turns back to Yuuri and he stares a little too long before smiling. “Your work is lovely...almost completely perfect. Are you at FIDM or FIT? Oh wait---you must go to SCAD of course!”
“Uh,” Yuuri begins. “I’m a high school senior. I just take a lot of home ec.”
Victor’s eyes widen. “High school?”
Mila and Chris both look at them with greater interest.
Phichit takes over with a bright grin and the V sign. “Yup! We graduate right before next year’s con! We spent all year on these, though, because we figured better to do it well than to rush! Plus sourcing the fabrics was a pain, ask Yuuri!”
“Um, well,” Yuuri coughs. “Mood sells online. So it’s not...not terrible? And we went to Rockville to G Street...they had good choices, too.”
“G Street is where I go,” Victor says with a grin. “Love them. On a first name basis with the entire staff. Take classes sometimes...curious I’ve never come across you!” He bites his bottom lip while looking at Yuuri, then he recalls Phichit is his partner. “Either of you.”
Chris snorts and gives Victor the sideye over Mila. Mila shakes her head, then turns back to her job. “May I?” she asks. Phichit hands her the bow. “Hm, surprisingly unburdensome,” she begins as she touches it. “No visible lines or seams, flawless paint...you spent hours sanding this, didn’t you?”
“I marathoned Champloo,” Phichit admits with a shrug. “Twice.”
Chris laughs, heartily and happily. “Yeah, you know, when I made my Kefka, I went through a few seasons of Yu Yu Hakusho.”
Phichit laughs. “Then you get me!”
Mila laughs too, but Victor’s eyes haven’t strayed from Yuuri. Yuuri notices, and gives him a quizzical look that may be slightly bitchy since he flies blind in costume. “Do you have a social media account or webpage?” Victor asks.
“Uh---no,” Yuuri manages. “This is the first one I’m proud of, honestly.”
“You should, I’d like to see more of your work,” Victor says as he checks the entry form. He scans it and sees their names with their characters. “Katsuki Yuuri,” he reads.
Phichit is giving him a look but Yuuri flushes and nods. “Um, yes. That’s me. We’ll set up a site...soon. Um...”
A volunteer taps Victor and points at the ten or so entrants behind them. “Oh! Yes!” Victor grins. “Well, thank you both.”
“Thank you,” Mila and Chris chime in unison.
“Thank YOU,” Phichit replies as he bodily steers Yuuri away. He gives Yuuri a judgmental raised eyebrow that Yuuri pretends he doesn’t see.
They went to the Starbucks on the third floor of the convention center and wait in the hellish line for cold drinks. They’ve barely paid and had their first sips when an excitable boy with a DSLR screams and runs to them. The boy has blonde and red dyed hair and he insists on doing a photoshoot right that second on the garden and fountain area of the BCC.
It takes like...elventy hours and others take their pictures too in various fighting stances. (A few ask for...pandering shots, but since Phichit and Yuuri can read search results for Kuro and Fai, they anticipated this. Somewhat awkward since just buds, but not a shock.)
When the light fades, they head to the Pratt Street Pavilion and eat a nice (they’re kids) dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Yuuri almost drowns in cucumber lemonade and Phichit insists on them sharing their cheesecakes.
They manage to get back in time for the Masquerade and they get decent seats. A lot of the skits are okay, some are outright just awful, but there’s no clear perfection like when Victor competed. Yuuri reminds himself of his goal---Best in Show at Otakon, just like Victor.
He’s not there yet, but he will be.
Halftime happens, and the music video winners are shown. Then it’s time for the Hall Contest winners. Yuuri’s palms and forehead drip sweat. Phichit holds his hand, no less nervous than Yuuri but better at pretending otherwise.
Kids then novices, which is their category, and nothing. Journeymen, Master. Best of Friday, Best of Saturday. Nothing. Yuuri and Phichit exchange sad looks, but they don’t complain. They’re smart---next time, they’ll do better.
Victor takes the mic. “Best of the Weekend was something special, especially for first time entrants! Everything was flawless from the sewing to the prop making...entry number #53, Kurogane and Fai from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles!”
Yuuri freezes like a statue as Phichit jumps up with a loud shout. He tries to drag Yuuri to the stage, but Yuuri can’t budge. “Dude,” Phichit says. with disbelief all over his face.
“Oh!” Yuuri realizes. He stumbles, and they walk up the stage stairs. Flashbulbs blind both of them as they’re given room to pose for photographs. Occasionaly they change position, and it ultimately lasts a solid ten minutes. Phichit accepts the trophy and prizes with a bright grin, shaking the hand of each judge.
Yuuri almost forgets himself, and follows suit. “Good job,” Mila says with a grin, now dressed as Hyakurin from Blade of the Immortal.
“Well done!” adds Chris with a big pat on his shoulder. Chris is Saya from Blood+. It’s a good look.
Victor is Sebastian from Black Butler, and Yuuri swallows. Victor’s eyes light up, and instead of a handshake, he pulls Yuuri into a hug. “I want to see what you do next,” he whispers.
Yuuri’s cheeks turn red, and he clears his throat. “Okay.”
Victor’s smile fills the room, and it’s all Yuuri sees, even on the drive home as Phichit talks a mile a minute about how next time they’ll go even bigger.

Fandom Favorites
RULES: Choose any three fandoms (in random order) and answer the questions. Then tag some friends.
Tagged by @keichanz !
I choose:
Inuyasha, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood , Yuri!!! On Ice
The first character you loved:
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood:  Alphonse Elric. He was just the sweetest and most precious cinnamon rolls ever.
Yuri!!! On Ice:  Prooobably Victor. I loved his straight forward attitude “Then why do you eat them if you haven’t won??” lol
Inuyasha: Kagome. I thought she handled the whole time jump thing really well.
The character you never expected to love so much:
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood : It’s tied between freakin Envy and the second Greed. Envy was just so.. funny. I mean he was evil af (he killed Maes and is super sadistic but he was only following orders). But hilarious. and Greed #2 just dgaf and i loved his relationship with Ling near the end.
Yuri!!! On Ice: Pichit!!!! My sweet angel baby. He was just... so damn precious.
Inuyasha: Kagura. The older I got the more i loved her. She was never inherently evil. She hated being Naraku’s henchman and only wanted to live life like a normal woman.
The character you relate to the most:
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood:  Winry. She is in the sidelines and loves her boys so much.
Yuri!!! On Ice: Man.. its a 3 way tie. Seung Gil Lee (cause idgaf bout drama) . Mari Katsuki (I fangirl WAAAY too hard) and Christophe Giacometti (Because im comfortable around others, tend to make people uncomfortable and just djaf tbh. and i hate clothes.)
Inuyasha: Sango. She doesnt rely on others to do anything for her. Girl power. She can and will kick you and your friends ass. And She’s hard to get to know but once shes there shes your ride or die.
The character you’d slap:
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: Van Hoenheim. I know he left his family because he was all sad and shit but because of his absence in the boys life, they were essentially orphaned. Left scared and lonely. So they tried to bring Trisha back and whelp.
Yuri!!! On Ice: Probably Yuri Plisetsky. Such a spoiled twat. All Yuuri and Victor want is for him to do his best and succeed and hes just a dickwad.
Inuyasha: Kikyo man. She was way too damn rude even after finding out it was Naraku who did everything. Like... Unnecessarily bitchy. ESPECIALLY to Kagome.
A character you liked at first but not so much anymore:
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: Probably Fuhrer Bradley. You know why.
Yuri!!! On Ice: uhmmm.. I gotta fish for this one. Jean-Jacques Leroy?? he was just annoying after a while. “ITS JJ STYLE!!!” shut UUUP man..
Inuyasha: “ I’m gonna cheat and say Kagome’s three friends Yuka, Eri and Ayumi. At first I thought they were just looking out for her wellfare, but then they just kept butting in and answering for her and just being forceful and it pissed me off.”<- Stealing Kei’s answer!
A character you did not like at first, but they’ve grown on you (by a lot):
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood:  fuckin Olivier Mira Armstrong. At first i saw her as just a frigid bitch. Then i realized she had to stay stong for her family and Brigs and allow no weakness (You could tell she was shook by Buckaneers death) to be a stronghold for her troops.
Yuri!!! On Ice: Christophe Giacometti man. First i was like “seriously?? Ew.” then i turned into “YAAS CHRISTPHE ,BE A SLUT! DO WHAT YOU WANT!”
Inuyasha: Miroku. I felt like he was just in it for himself then he really showed how much everyone means to him and how he really isnt a sleeze.
3 OTPs:
Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood: Edwin, Royai, AlMay
Yuri!!! On Ice: Victuri (Duh), Otayuri, and Christophe with himself.
Inuyasha: InuKag (of course!) RinHaku, SessKagu.
I’ll tag (people who have probably already been tagged. tbh.)

Yuri on Ice
I watched Yuri on Ice recently and after going through some tags and reading some fanfiction, I’m somewhat dissatisfied.  The show itself is intriguing and compelling, but it’s not exactly explicit about what’s going on with any of the character relationships.
This is obviously true of the main pair, Yuuri (Japan) and Viktor, if you’ve watched the show, but the character that actually interests me most is Yuri (Russia).
Being only 15, he seems painfully alone and desperate during most of the show even though he hides it in his brusque manner, furious outbursts, and bravado.  None of this is ever really made explicit, but it’s hinted at enough. The dynamics of his relationships with Yuuri and Viktor aren’t explicit either, but they’re hinted at.
There are three things around Yuri and his relationships that bother me.
Misunderstood, Not a Jerk
The first is Yuri’s characterization in many fanfictions.  He’s called a brat or bitchy or any number of similar things.  He gets written as someone who’s constantly violently angry and inconsiderate of other people’s feelings.  That’s not really true though.  He can be a bit rough around the edges and he gives in to impulses that are driven by his own insecurities, but he doesn’t actually have a desire to hurt anyone.
Yuri is immature in some ways, but he’s also mature in others.  He has a developed understanding of his goals and of himself as a skater.  He has a strong work ethic and doesn’t mind sacrificing for his goals.  He truly cares about the people he’s close to when it comes down to it too.
He cheers Yuuri up by giving him the special katsudon pirozhki that Yuri’s grandfather made. His big motivation during his final skate is also focused on trying to keep Yuuri on the ice by blocking him from his goal and making him have to try again next year instead of retiring.  He’s obviously rooting for Yuuri and Viktor even through his moments of jealousy.
He’s a great, supportive friend to Otabek pretty much as soon as they decide to become friends.  His bond with his grandfather is the only unconditional love he can think of and that’s not because it’s the only unconditional love he’s ever given.  Rather, it’s because it’s the only unconditional love he feels he’s ever received.  Seeing as he considers Otabek his first friend, Yuri obviously just never had the chance to show his affection before.  Once he has the chance, he does just fine.
I mean, the show’s shorthand for Yuri being a sensitive person is pretty simple anyway.  He’s obsessed with cats and what person can possibly be callous through and through when adorable kittens are their weakness?  Yuri is pretty harsh in the first couple episodes, but even so, I could never really hate him like I normally would because he was obviously a flawed, struggling person. Then you realize he’s only 15 and you can sympathize with why he doesn’t handle himself well when he has little to no emotional support.
As a 15-year-old whose only family seems to be his grandfather who doesn’t even come to his competition, he has an almost nonexistent support system.  I can’t really figure out why his grandfather didn’t show up, but my guess is that while his grandfather is supportive, he’s not really hands-on with Yuri’s skating. That’s a shame since it’s such a huge part of Yuri’s life.  Either that or his grandfather was feeling too poorly to come that day which is yet another blow to Yuri’s support system.
Yuri’s other acquaintances are all in something of a business relationship with him, depending on his talents to create a result.  His coach, Yakov, cares about him, as does Lilia, but their job is to constantly push Yuri, keep him in line, and help him fulfill his potential as a champion skater.  This is all great for his future career prospects, but it’s not what an affection-starved teenage boy needs.
What Yuri needs is someone who pays attention to him as a person without requiring him to meet certain standards.  He needs someone to listen to him and support him instead of trying to constantly change him.  What his coaches do is probably best for his skating career, but it leaves him unbelievably vulnerable as a person.
Yuri sets his sights on Viktor as a skating goal, but he also admires Viktor.  He craves his attention, partly because Viktor is the best and having attention from the best would automatically validate Yuri.  However, I honestly think he became much more fixated on Viktor after Viktor’s challenge simply because Viktor was the first one in awhile to understand Yuri and speak to him on the same level.
Viktor and Yuri
This brings me to the second issue I have with portrayals in fandom.  Viktor is not a menace.  He’s not as selfish and silly as people make him out to be, and he didn’t thoughtlessly abandon Yuri.
Viktor saw Yuri doing quads before his body was ready and knew that he was on a path to injure himself permanently. He saw Yakov’s attempts to handle it backfiring spectacularly and he stepped in to do the only thing that would stop Yuri.  He challenged him to be the best without jumps and Yuri rose to the challenge and didn’t wreck his body permanently in the process.
I’m pretty sure Viktor never really forgot about his promise to Yuri.  I think he knew Yuri would follow him to Japan and he wanted that.  He knew that Yuri was too focused on him, so becoming Yuri’s personal choreographer or coach wouldn’t have been good for Yuri’s development.  He also knew that both Yuri and Yuuri needed to shake their skating up a bit, so he likely had the competition idea planned from the beginning.  He choreographed the routine for Yuri like he’d promised in the first place, and that was all he could do for Yuri.
Like Yakov and Lilia, he was trying to help Yuri as a skater the best he knew how by distancing himself, but he also didn’t do what was right for Yuri emotionally.  It wasn’t intentional on his part, just like it wasn’t on Yakov or Lilia’s. Viktor clearly cares for Yuri considering how he deliberately watches Yuri’s performance and even hugs him without prompting.  He was just never vocal enough about it.
We have to remember that Viktor is only 27 too.  It may seem old to some people, but that’s how old I am and I can tell you I wouldn’t know what to do half the time as a coach or a mentor.  Viktor himself says in the show that he wishes he’d had Yakov’s advice at certain points because he doesn’t have the experience he needs as a coach.
Viktor and Yuri are like big and little brothers when it comes down to it.  Viktor related to and cared about Yuri because he saw so much of his own rebellious spirit in Yuri, but he tried to control Yuri to help him (like many older siblings do) instead of just being there for him.
Everyone around Yuri in the skating world is trying to do their best to help him as a skater, but they’re manipulating him instead of working with him and explaining and listening to why he has objections.  I suspect they don’t try because they’ve fallen into thinking he’s unreasonable simply because they’ve never understood his reasons.
Yuri’s not blameless either since he tends to think their ideas are stupid until he finally realizes the point of them much later on (e.g. trying to do the quads when he was told there was a really good reason not to).  Still, he’s a teenager and the adults around him have more of a responsibility to set things right.
Otabek and Yuri
This brings me to the third thing.  Otabek is the first person who really listens to Yuri and supports him without manipulating him.  He’s the first person to be vocal to Yuri about wanting to be considered a friend.  He’s everything that Yuri needs emotionally that he hasn’t been getting.
Mila and Yuko are the closest otherwise, but Mila seems to be fond of Yuri without really seeing the problems. For Yuko’s part, she realizes he needs someone, but Yuri is too suspicious of her spying on him for Yuuri to fully embrace her as a friend.  Otabek is someone that approached Yuri directly and showed immediately that he saw Yuri for who he was and was interested in him for that, and so Yuri trusted him enough to let him in.
Rather than reading about how Otabek likes Yuri being a firecracker and just takes any and all unreasonableness that comes out of Yuri’s mouth lying down, I’d like to see their relationship portrayed as the outlet it is for Yuri.  I’d like to see Otabek discover and benefit from the more thoughtful and considerate side of Yuri.  I’d like that side to have room to breathe rather than remaining hidden under layers of defenses.
The great thing about Otabek and Yuri is that they’re truly equals.  Yuri has been cast aside and ignored emotionally to a certain extent by all his acquaintances, but having Otabek act as his minion or enabler isn’t the answer. Allowing Yuri to have support and show his support in return is what will really make their relationship great and allow both of them to grow.
Conclusion
I rambled a lot, but basically I’d like to see the characters and their relationships handled with a little more gravity and understanding.  Yuri is not a brat through and through, Viktor is not a selfish airhead, and Otabek is not a long-suffering doormat.
Their characters in the show may seem one way, but a lot of the time there are things going on just beneath the surface.  What they say or what they pretend to be like isn’t always the truth.  Sometimes it’s a means to an end that’s at least well intentioned.  None of the characters are really frivolous.
There are no truly evil characters in Yuri on Ice either.  Some characters are more annoying than others and some are more self-centered than others, but all of them have their own relatable reasons for wanting to win.  No one is truly trying to destroy the others.  They’re only trying to be the best and win the top spot (and in Yuri’s case, reacting badly to his own insecurities).
Which Yuri?
I lied about the conclusion.  There’s one more thing I was thinking about Yuri that I’ll just smoosh in here.
I could argue that Yuri on Ice isn’t a story only about Viktor’s Yuuri, but also about Otabek’s Yuri.  The title seems to come from Yuuri’s music, but in the end Yuri has just as much focus and just as much development, possibly even more, than Yuuri does.  He’s also the one who ends up overcoming all his obstacles and winning.  If the story was supposed to be about Yuuri alone, there was no reason his rival had to be named Yuri.
The romantic relationship between Yuuri and Viktor, the sibling-mentor relationship between Yuri and Viktor, and the rivalry-friendship between Yuri and Yuuri are the true heart of the show, which is why those 3 are the ones in the opening. If any one of the 3 were missing, then the other 2 wouldn’t be as richly developed as characters.
I think Yuri on Ice was meant to refer to both Yuri and Yuuri rather than just one.

Yuri on Ice 30 days challenge Day 16: Favourite Coach Yakov Feltsman Sorry Viktor I dont think your that good of a coach just yet. Yakov is best coach, hes dealt with at least FIVE skaters bull shit. lets assume Yakov has been coaching his main four since their junior days or at the very least senior years in skating that would mean hes been the one who had to deal with Mila sexualizing everything she can and picking on Yuri, Hes had to deal with Yuri’s bitchy attitude and ranting , hes probably the one replacing all the phones yuri breaks too. He has to deal with Georgi ‘s failed relationships and emotions going out of control and then he also has to deal with Viktor. He even calls Viktor selfish, hes assumingly been coaching him since viktor was a little kid and had to put up with viktor just being fucking viktor and then he just leaves with no warning to japan. but then after all that yakov still takes on Yuuri when viktor has to go back to japan and has to deal with yuuri s anxiety. this poor man must be so fucking done with these guys hes starting to bald. this man deserves so much credit for not beating the shit out of his shitty students and just wants them to retire already. stay strong Yakov! day 17 prompt: Least Favourite Skater

Can I request the Pliroy boss/intern, preferably with Yuri as the intern. If it works better than the traditional maybe in a strange career field. -Kate
It’s taken me a little while to finish, but here it is!!
J.J. leaned back in his desk chair, kicking his feet up on his desk.  He flipped through the renderings he’d been presented at the last meeting, but they were all lackluster and dull.  Nothing stood out.  There were a few pieces that, although not extraordinary, were acceptable, but you couldn’t fill a catalog with nothing but “fine.”  He needed “Wow.”
His door opened, and he tossed the papers on his desk.  Leo smiled at him as he shut the door behind him.
“Anything worth making?” Leo asked, sitting on the edge of J.J.’s desk.
J.J. groaned.  “They’re good, but not great.  I feel like I need to invest in some kind of getaway or something.  Maybe if my designers get out more, they’ll be struck by inspiration?”
“Maybe,” Leo agreed.  “Or maybe I have something you’d like to see.”  He pulled a folder out of his bag, waving it with a smug smile.  “One of Guang Hong’s interns is, shall we say, confident?  He made a deal with Guang Hong to show his work to me.  And if I thought you’d be interested, I was then to show it to you.”
J.J.’s eyebrows went up.  “An intern thought all that through?”  He held out a hand and made gimme motions with it.  “I want.”
“Oh?  And what do I get?”
“My undying gratitude--if it’s worth looking at.”
Leo snorted.  “Fine, fine.  You’re going to like it.  The kid’s got spark.”
“Ooh, I like spark.”  J.J. flipped the folder open quickly.  The very first rendering was striking.  A gorgeous gown, floor length, with diagonal white tiger stripes.  The cut was bold and innovative, mixing style J.J. wouldn’t have thought to mix.  The next was a jacket, denim but cut like a bomber jacket with leopard print detailing.  Each piece was bold and interesting.  They also all had cat prints.
J.J. smiled.  “Can he design things without cats in mind?”
“The work he’s done for Guang Hong suggests he can,” Leo said with a shrug.
“Is he in?  I want to meet him.”
Leo scooped up the phone, dialing quickly.  “Hello, Guang Hong?  ...  Yeah, it’s me.  I’m in J.J.’s office.  ...  Yeah, I showed him.  His gamble paid off.  ...  Yeah, send him up, would you?  J.J. wants to meet him.”
When Leo hung up, he chuckled.  “Fair warning, the kid’s mouthy.  I heard him when I was on the phone with Guang Hong a few times.”
J.J. laughed.  “I like mouthy.  Why do you think I keep you and Isabella around?”
“Sentimentality?” Leo suggested.  “Anyway, I should head out so the two of you can talk in private.  Have fun, your majesty.”
As Leo let himself out, a young blond let himself in.  They met eyes.
“How old are you?” J.J. asked.
The man scowled.  “Nineteen.”
J.J. whistled.  “Well, points for youth, then.  You’ve impressed and surprised me.  You’re an intern?”
“I am.  Part time.”  The anger shifted rapidly to something smug.  “Yuri Plisetsky,” he provided.
“I want you to design me something with florals,” J.J. said.  “Consider it a test.”
“What did you want?  A dress?  A skirt?”  Yuri seemed to be taking mental notes.
J.J. smiled.  “A jacket.  The fabric is up to you, but it needs to involve flowers.  I want to be surprised, but it also needs to be something we could put out.  Will that be a problem?”
“When do you want it by?” Yuri asked instead.
J.J. smile grew into a grin.  “As soon as you can, but finish your other work first.”  Yuri nodded once, looking like he was about to excuse himself.  “If you do well, I’ll be considering you for a rapid promotion.”
Yuri’s eyes seemed to flash dangerously.  “I’m looking forward to it.”
With that, he excused himself.  J.J. laughed, delighted and eager.
Within two years, Yuri was J.J.’s top designer, next to Isabella.  He was mouthy and quick tempered, but J.J. was fond of his passion and his ambition.  While most of the time they spent together was at work, J.J. had worked Yuri up to finally accepting the occasional dinner invitation.  Although, usually it was only when J.J. could make it seem like it was about work.
Sometimes, J.J. wasn’t sure where his company would be without such a hard working and innovative designer beside him, but he tried not to think about it.  Yuri said he didn’t plan to leave, so J.J. would just have to trust him.  Three rival companies so far had done their level best to steal him away, but Yuri refused to go time and again.
Although, this time (number four), J.J. wasn’t so sure he wouldn’t take the deal.  J.J. sighed, glancing over the article in question.  Yuri had been seen at dinner with industry greats Victor Nikiforov and Katsuki Yuuri.  He bit his lip, worrying the corner of the page between his fingers.
Yuri had confessed some time ago (after drinking) that he’d admired Victor for much of his life and was inspired by him to become a designer.  Who wouldn’t want to work with their idol, their inspiration?
His door flew open, hitting the wall.  Yuri strode in, tugging his tie loose.  “Fucking Victor, always trying to start shit with me.”  He grumbled something under his breath, throwing himself into the chair across from J.J.  “Meddling bastard, sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong.”
Something in J.J.’s chest loosened.  Yuri’s eyes were shining and his cheeks were flushed with his frustration.  His hair was still cropped short, pushed back off his forehead.  As always, J.J. fought the urge to run his fingers through it, to rub them along the velvety buzz at the base of his skull.
“And here I thought you looked up to Victor.”  J.J. feigned confidence, leaning as if he was unconcerned.
“The man’s a genius, but he’s also flaky and kind of bitchy.  Katsuki’s the best thing that ever happened to him.”  Yuri sighed.  “They invited me to their wedding.”
“What?”
“You heard me.  That’s why I was busy yesterday.  I always ignore their emails and letters so they came by to ask me in person.”  Yuri rolled his eyes.  “That and they’re both fucking dramatic.”
J.J. laughed, slumping with relief.  “Thank God,” he murmured.
Yuri’s eyes flashed.  “You thought they were trying to recruit me?”  His eyebrows rose, imperious.  “You thought I’d accept?”
“Can you blame me?”  J.J. scratched the back of his head.  “I’m only human, chaton.”
Yuri huffed.  “Idiot.  I told you I wouldn’t leave unless you really pissed me off.”  He turned away, cheeks going a little pink.  “You were the first person to give me a chance.  That...  That’s not nothing, Leroy.”
J.J. felt warm.  “Ah, I must’ve done something good to keep such a loyal designer at my side.”
“Yeah, you have a good eye sometimes.  You’re still fucking dumb, though.  And your hair is still stupid.”  Yuri sniffed, his nose lifting.
“You flatter me, mon petit chou.”
“Oh, fuck off.  Maybe I’ll file a complaint for workplace harassment.”  But he was blushing, and one hand was fidgeting with the chain of his necklace, tugging lightly.
“Mon amour, you wound me.  I would never do something so base as harass one of my employees.”  J.J. pressed a hand to his heart dramatically for a moment before winking at Yuri.  “Mild flirting, on the other hand...”
“Yes, yes, save it for your precious fangirls, would you?” Yuri looked away, lips pursed.  The blush faded.
“You know I don’t flirt with my fans, chaton.”
“Doesn’t stop you from flirting with everyone else.”  Yuri was tugging at his necklace again.
There had never been a better opportunity.  If he was ever going to make a move, really make his intentions clear, now was the time.
“Yuri, I--”
The door slammed open.  “Boss, Nikiforov is here, and he wants to see you.”
J.J. scrubbed his hand over his face.  “What was it you called him?  A meddling bastard?”
“That’s him,” Yuri agreed.  He sounded a little breathless and a lot disappointed.  “Fucking Victor.”
J.J. shook his head.  “Tell him to wait.  Yuri and I were discussing something.”
“Y-Yes, sir.”
Yuri’s eyebrows rose.  “J.J.?”
J.J. took his hands between his, leaning forward earnestly.  “Yuri, the only one I want is you.”
“What?”  Yuri’s cheeks went red.
“I’m friendly, sure, but the only one I flirt with is you.  The only one I want to spend all my time with is you.  The only one I love--”  Yuri surged forward and cut him off with a kiss.  Their noses bumped, but as soon as their lips made contact, they fell into rhythm with each other.
J.J. tilted his head, releasing Yuri’s hands to finally run his fingers through his short blond hair, scratching lightly at the base of his skull.  Yuri shivered, leaning closer.
When they pulled back to catch their breath, Yuri pulled his hair.  “Idiot.  What took you so long?”
J.J. laughed and pulled him back in, biting his lip in retaliation.  They kissed for longer than J.J. intended, long enough that he was startled by the sound of the door opening again.
“Leroy, I wanted to discuss--” Victor started.
J.J. grimaced.  “Does no one knock any more?”
“Ah, this is what I wanted to discuss!”  Victor strode forward with a wide smile.  “I was just going to ask when you were going to make an honest man out of my young friend!”
Yuri’s cheeks turned scarlet, and he stood too quickly, the chair screeching as it was shoved backward.  J.J. couldn’t understand the rapid fire Russian pouring from Yuri’s lips, but he couldn’t find it in himself to care much.  Yuri was beautiful when he was angry at someone else.  Especially when he was more embarrassed than angry.
A proposal seemed a little too much too fast, but J.J. couldn’t discount the idea.  Maybe not now, but if all went well--someday.  He pressed two fingers to his tingling lips and smiled.
