Why I think Russell Adler is going to make a comeback in COD 2024
WARNING⚠️: Contains spoilers for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: This is all just speculation on my behalf of course. I've just tried piecing stuff together for fun because Russ is one of my fave BO characters even though he's a bitch but i need more Adler content stat. <33
Let's get into it peeps. HEAR ME OUT.
Tumblr media
Buckle up. Gonna be one hell of a ride folks 🤪
We'll start off with some random/background info.
Russ was born on February 12th 1937 so that would make him 53/54 in the Gulf War era. This actually isn't that old because if you think about it, Woods was about to turn 51 in 1981 during the Cold War campaign. What's a few more years?
We last saw Adler in action post-campaign in Warzone 1.0 cinematics but we've been kept in the dark about Adler's whereabouts post-1984 (after being brainwashed and killing Stitch LOL).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This meanie in a beanie wasn't forgotten about, oh no. He appears in the new cinematic intros on startup for both MWII (2022) and MWIII (2023). See below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was also featured twice in the 20 year anniversary video for Call of Duty whereas COD Ghosts didn't even get an appearance (ouch): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL_w5HmxsPI
I personally believe Adler was a great addition to the Black Ops roster and is essentially the new Black Ops 'cover boy' now. Would be such a shame and a missed opportunity not to include a character like him in the upcoming COD. One who is morally grey, does whatever he deems necessary to get the job done - a bit like Cpt. Price in MW. Got the COD fans riled up about him brainwashing and pulling the trigger on Bell too - he's already got the spotlight in both a good and bad way.
Now, let's explore my main reasoning as to why I think Mr Shades 2.0 is most likely coming back in late 2024...
🎖️First up: Gulf War mission list 🔫
Here are some of the campaign missions that will be featured in Black Ops Gulf War. Obviously, this is subject to change, however, going off what we have, look closely...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Credit: @MWIIINTEL on Twitter/X
Safehouse guys...SAFEHOUSE. Takes you right back to Cold War, doesn't it? Ugh the potential.
🕵️ Next up: The campaign for COD 2024 will dive into the CIA's role/the Black Ops timeline 🕘
I took the following snippet from this official article.
Tumblr media
From this, we know there will be a huge focus on the CIA and who's a CIA clandestine special officer? Mhm, you guessed it - Russell Adler.
Now, according to the events of BO2, it's evident which characters have the possibility of returning out of our original BO trio - Jason Hudson, Frank Woods and Alex Mason.
💫 Alex is presumed dead after Frank shot him so he's out the picture in '90/91 until 2025 when they canonically meet again.
🪵 Woods would be in his 60s during this time too so I'll let you decide whether that's too old for him to be in GW.
Edit: Woods got SPAS-12'd in the kneecaps on Dec 20th 1989 by Raul Menendez so uh...yeah
🧊 Hudson died on Dec 20th 1989 at the hands of Raul Menendez.
Feel free to check out this website (Call of Duty Wiki) for an outline of the events after CW to remind yourself. Here's a link to the Black Ops timeline from there.
➡️ Gulf War being a direct sequel to Cold War and what that could mean 💉
That brings me onto the rest of the safehouse crew. Since GW is a direct sequel to CW, it would make sense for some characters to carry over if possible:
We, as the player/Bell, get to choose whether Park or Lazar die (or both lovebirds) in 'End of the Line'. It's highly unlikely they'll return unless the devs make one decision canon maybe.
There could be a chance we see Sims again given his bond with Adler (Da Nang etc.), his age (late 40s in GW) and his status (alive).
That leaves the man himself, Russ. Everything from his age to the fact he's CIA and was the deuteragonist in COD 2020's campaign just makes sense for him to have at least a lil cameo or even a larger role, don't you think?
📱Finally: Hints from official posts 🔎
This post from Call of duty's official Instagram account kind of sealed the deal for me.
Tumblr media
Oh lookie - they dropped syringe-lover's famous line in a zombies post. Why would COD just drop it so casually like that without a reason and years after since CW came out? They could've said absolutely anything else but no, this was purposeful.
And that's all for this episode guys and gals!
Thank you for reading!! 🫂
Tumblr media
Do what you will with all this information but I have concluded in my silly little brain that scarface is coming back.
How he's only in one game is beyond me. Won't get a character like him ever again. Seems like a cliché war dude at first glance but dig a little deeper into the details of the CW campaign, peel back the layers and get into his psychology and WOWZERS.
Am I delusional? Most definitely.
But the possibility he might be returning...that little bit of hope is enough for me and i won't shut up about it.
This will age horribly if he isn't in GW. Forgive me for feeding your delusions too in that case. Please?
What are your thoughts? Feel free to share them! 😊

Even COD 2025 won't have our beloved Valerudy.
People found a leak that it's a Black Ops II sequel. So this year we get Black Ops 6/Gulf War and next year another BO.

when you know every last prominent online ~leftist intellectual~ who threw Syrians under the bus out of a childish need to preserve the idea that because Asad is currently on the outs with the US he's some kind of socialist liberator vanguard-bearer* and therefore actually bought the idea that the uprising was some CIA op shit, seeing those exact same people say and write perfectly good things about Palestine is this extra dose of infuriating because my first instinct is that I want to share them, I want to pass them on, but then I see the name and I fucking refuse to amplify these people even if their broken clocks are right today.
and meanwhile on twitter people are taking images of barrel-bombed Syrian cities, bleeding and crying Syrian children, and claiming they're from Gaza or even from Israel.
I absolutely don't begrudge Palestinians a shred of rhetoric or visibility. they need it. genocide is underway. it just makes me want to throw up to watch a certain kind of online clout-chaser exploit the complete abandonment of Syrians for the umpteenth time in order to clout-chase about Palestine. and people who either understandably don't know who they are, or who do and should fucking know better but apparently don't care or even buy it, laud them for it. twelve years of these people building themselves up on the bodies of Syrians whose memories they insult out loud and implicitly, in word and image and silence, and calling themselves the left.
----
*Asad ran black sites for the CIA, tried his damnedest to get in good with the US and Europe in the 2000s and pivoted back toward Iran only when it became clear that wouldn't work, and even before his failson antics his daddy joined the US's Gulf War coalition for money and free rein to keep occupying Lebanon. and somehow it's worth building an entire alternate reality to claim that he's a pillar of anti-imperial resistance, for...what, exactly? what does anybody win except smug certainty. I fucking hate it here. I always have to soothe myself by remembering when Dana al-Kurd had the integrity to come out and admit that she used to hold this position and then realized the sheer cognitive dissonance involved and changed her mind. sucks that I have exactly that one example to go back to.

𓆝 TIMELINE - Guppy 𓆝
I've put together a timeline, which contains what is/isn't canon in my AU. There are some things I've added and changed that weren't apart of the games original plot. Hopefully this all makes sense, if there's any questions about the timeline just leave a comment and I'll answer it for you.
Timeline
1961 --- Black Ops : Operation 40
1963 --- Black Ops : Vorkuta | U.S.D.D | Executive Order
1968 --- The Rest of Black Ops takes place
1979 --- David Mason is born, Mason's wife dies after he is born.
1981 --- Black Ops Cold War happens, Bell survives the good ending. They are taken in by Woods and Mason after they found out what happened. (Both unaware that Bell was brain washed, thought they were helping of their own volition.)
1984 --- Bell takes care of David while Mason and Woods help Adler after he is compromised / unsuccessfully brainwashed.
1986 --- Mason retires to Alaska, but is brought back to save woods from MPLA, re-enlists to hunt down Menendez.

1990 --- Gulf Wars (90-91), conflict in Iraq
1997 --- Bell leaves for Australia after David Mason joins the US army. Guppy is born.
2001 --- Bell and Guppy meet in an Auslan class, Guppy is instantly close and trusting of Bell. To the surprise of zir parents and teacher.

I’m mostly typing this for myself to help process and organize my thoughts but… feel free to read if you want, especially if you have been annoyed lately too.
I’m cutting my ties with Call of Duty as a fan of the games.
Tumblr media
Prepare for my unsolicited thoughts under the cut:
This game has always had shady politics and racial discourses. This is known, lol. It has always depicted Arabs, Eastern Europeans, and Latin Americans as caricatures, even if sometimes they sometimes succeeded in portraying their countries as being the victims of European and U.S. imperialism. But in light of the rapid intensification of violence toward Palestinians with the genocide in Gaza, this tendency just leaves a worse taste in my mouth. While the gameplay and plot structure for the new BO game next year will probably be better than MWIII, I have low hopes with how they’ll portray the goddamn Gulf War. The fact they've added an Israeli operator called "Doc" to MWIII in this particular moment in history tells me all I have to know about where Activision stands as a company.
Furthermore, the last Modern Warfare campaign was so bad, it just signaled to me once and for all that Activision does not care about the future of their games or the legacy of any of their previous good games. I’ve mostly been playing Zombies, not even traditional MP / Warzone. But even then, it’s easy for me to get burnt out playing Zombies. And Zombies is not worth the 100 dollars I paid thinking the campaign would be more enjoyable. And season’s 1 battle pass that came with the 100-dollar edition of the game is awful in my opinion.
Not to mention, the voice actors of both the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series have been either totally racist or highly indifferent about the genocide in Gaza. First, Barry Sloane's tone-deaf Beatles post about "peace" he posted on October that he quickly deleted was more insensitive than I think he even realizes. Samuel Roukin liking a racist article that equates calls decolonization as a "false narrative" was despicable. Of course, that article targets Palestine specifically in its racism, but it also indirectly charges all Third World countries with its accusation of their independence and claims to sovereignty as being "a false narrative." As someone who is of both Latin American and Asian descent and whose countries of origins had to fight for independence more than twice (!!), I cannot accept that.
Then Claudia—a woman of Lebanese descent—and Elliot—a queer black man—encouraging and offering condolences to an ex-IOF soldier was downright evil. The IOF actively bombs Lebanon as part of their current genocidal campaign. It has waged brutal wars against the Lebanese people in the 1980s & 2000s [x] [x]. And it has carried out both anti-Black violence [x] and sexual violence—including against Palestinian men and women [x] [x], and it engages in its frequently-exposed pinkwashing [x]. Rather than allying with Lebanese, queer, and Black people who have been victims of Israeli/Zionist violence, Claudia & Elliot as people with major platforms instead are disappointingly choosing to legitimize Zionist propaganda.
I don't know a lot about Julian, Warren, Neil or Alain's stances on this genocide, but I never take silence in the face of genocide or war to be a good sign. Lastly, since Oct 7, María Elisa Camargo (more like caga'o) posted her support for Israel, equating Palestinian existence and resistance with "terrorism." I already did not like her for engaging in indigenista discourses and tropes and for seemingly being very nonchalant about playing the role of a narco-terrorist, trying to girl-bossify a very real source of fear & terror to contemporary Latin American and Mexican people's lives. This was not surprising for her, but it's still worth highlighting.
In terms of Black Ops actors, the former actor for Frank Woods also made incredibly shitty comments in a live stream about the genocide, talking about a so-called "Middle Eastern mentality," (essentializing all Middle Easterners, really), practically equating all Palestinians with Hamas, and roughly stating that people keep on going further back in history to justify their acts of violence—and I'm sure he was not just referring to Israelis weaponizing the Holocaust to commit atrocities against Palestinians. Like many other people, he gives the impression that he dismisses Palestinians and Arabs as incapable of producing a coherent political thought, and that they only resort to violence out of instinct or because of their religion (which is a gross idea—Islam is not a religion of violence at all!)
Again, I didn't have much expectations for Call of Duty to be anti-Zionist, let's be real. But I see these actors as creatives whose literal jobs are to empathize with other people's stories and experiences as part of their work. The fact that they're trained to put themselves in another person's shoes but are incapable of putting themselves in the shoes of Palestinian people right now, when nearly 20,000 have been recorded as killed—and many more injured or displaced—is very telling.
Anyone who knows this blog knows I have formed a lot of beef with other COD blogs for stuff like fanfic tropes, sexual politics, and about the idea of watching playthroughs vs. playing the game. For once, I'm actually relieved and oddly glad most of this fandom has rallied around the idea that Palestine is not the villain, and that we almost all understand that what Israel's doing is unacceptable, and that these actors and creative industry workers have a duty as humans to stand with victims of genocide and to call out crimes against humanity. For this, I actually have to commend this fandom. We're so trivial about shit like fanfic tropes and headcanons, but I'm glad we have our heads on straight for things that truly matter—like real life war and mass violence.
Honestly, the last straw today—although much minor in its gravity compared to genocide apologism—was Barry's childish behavior toward COD fans on twitter who expressed that they agreed with Christopher Judge's joke at The Game Awards last night that the MWIII campaign was too short. You do not get to talk down, mock, or be childish to your fans when they give you feedback on a public platform as an actor. Judge did not even attack the quality of the game or the VAs' performances—he only joked about the game's super short length. Yet, Barry chooses to act out on Twitter because of these harmless jokes. He seems to care more about protecting his ego as "Captain Price's actor" than about the quality of the game or story that fans are receiving and sometimes paying upwards of 100 dollars for.
I thought to myself, okay, this is just one actor letting his ego get to him. That's not that extraordinary. But the fact that COD devs on Twitter today also starting getting defensive about the jokes and trying to excuse the shitty game they produced? That truly showed me that the horrible launch of the campaign and of MP that happened with MWIII was not a learning opportunity for these studios or devs, but rather only made them stick their heads further up their own asses.
I have little faith in this franchise and honestly am not enjoying it, both in terms of game play and the political discourses coming from its creators. After the Season 1 BP is completed (because I fucking paid for it—sadly), I will be planning to uninstall and shelf the game. If I ever play a COD game in the future, it'll be after it goes on a sale because I won't be paying full price. But the thought of giving this company any more money turns me the fuck off right now.
I also realize I'm co-admin for @dailycallofduty and I will still be participating in running it. I'll be promoting the actors' signings less and promoting the game's new content less. Nonetheless, I'll still be reblogging posts that dailycallofduty is tagged in, like art, graphics, and gifs. On my personal blog, I'll still be reblogging COD gifs that I'm tagged in by friends & mutuals. Just don't be expecting more gifs from me. Not that there were many great scenes to make gifs from this new game anyway.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading.

Where do I start with Black Ops?
!!!!! (I'm being asked about Blops??? be cool be cool)
Black Ops is a series that has a lot of twists and turns. A big part of the experience is in actually playing the games, and if you only watch them on Youtube, you will miss a lot. Hell, I'm still finding stuff on subsequent playthroughs. So if you have the option, play them.
If you can, I'd say start with Black Ops 1. It is my favorite Black Ops game, so yes I am biased, but it is also the beginning. AND it is the intro to CoD's MOST ICONIC DUO of Alex Mason and Frank Woods. In my opinion? it's not to be missed. It's challenging for sure, but it's SO worth it. And the plot twists??? omg. You don't want those spoiled for you.
If you don't want to or can't play the older games, you COULD start with Cold War. While the stories are in the same timeline, you don't need to know anything about Black Ops 1 to play Cold War. There will be some spoilers for Black Ops 1, just FYI. But that's how I started, and then I turned right around and played 1&2 (because I loved Woods and Mason so much and I NEEDED more).
Also, the new game this year is rumored to be a sequel to Cold War, so it's good to get that one under your belt at least. I don't know if they will include some elements of 2 in it, but about half of 2 takes place almost immediately before the rumored events of Blops 2024 (if it is indeed set in the Gulf War period 1990-1991).
So I'd recommend playing 1 first, then CW, then 2. You don't have to play 3. And just ignore any of the events of 4; in fact, it's best to pretend 4 doesn't exist. Ugh.
TL;DR
Blops 1-> Cold War-> Black Ops 2
Avoid Black Ops 4
Anyway, thanks for sending me a Blops ask!! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Xbox Games Showcase Announced For June, Followed by A Secret Direct For A Beloved Franchise
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/xbox-games-showcase-announced-for-june-followed-by-a-secret-direct-for-a-beloved-franchise/
Xbox Games Showcase Announced For June, Followed by A Secret Direct For A Beloved Franchise
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xbox will livestream an Xbox Games Showcase this summer. Similar to last year’s Starfield Direct, the showcase will be followed by a special “Redacted” direct that will dive deep into a beloved franchise. As for when, the Xbox Games Showcase will begin at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET on June 9, with the Redacted showcase streaming immediately after.
“Like our double feature last year with Starfield Direct, immediately following the Showcase we’ll be airing a special deep-dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise,” an Xbox Wire blog post reads. “We can’t say much, so for now, we’ll call it the Xbox Games Showcase followed by [REDACTED] direct. This will also be our first showcase featuring games from our portfolio of studios across Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios, in addition to titles from our third-party partners.”
And speaking of Activision Blizzard, I’m guessing the redacted showcase is about the next Call of Duty, based on the associated image that you can see in the X (formerly Twitter) post below:
We know another Call of Duty is coming this year, following up last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, and that logo looks very militaristic. The Capitol Building behind it adds to this guess, too, especially if the next Call of Duty is about the Gulf War, which is what the latest rumors are saying (with Black Ops series developer Treyarch up to bat). Regardless, we’ll find out soon because that presentation follows the Xbox Games Showcase happening in less than two months on June 9.
This Xbox Games Showcase will follow this year’s Summer Game Fest livestream on June 7 (and takes place during SGF’s media-only days, where press and influencers will play various games on-site in Los Angeles, California, from June 8 to June 10). Following the Xbox Games Showcase, Ubisoft will host another Ubisoft Forward event on June 10.
What game do you think the redacted direct will be about? Let us know in the comments below!
