just finished 12 season of bob’s burgers and i’m not ready for the movie not season 13

#i wanted to prolong this bas alas #i’ve seen some animation pics from the movie and it looks GOOD #also season 12 was really great arc wise imo it really had the kids address themselves and their behaviors which i adored #i love the kids a lot a lot actually and i love joining bob and linda watching them grow up #i love the moments louise decides she wants people to have fun #and i love when tina has moments where she realizes she doesn’t need the group of friends she’s built #but also she’s embraced their friendship as well especially with the boys #a whole episode where willingly hung out with and helped zeke is IMMENSE growth on her part ESPECIALLY when jimmy jr wasn’t even there #also while she’s still 13 and her crush on jj is still there she’s accepted him as a friend and has learned to treat that friendship nicely #and i love that she’s allowed herself the room to be mean to him too sometimes cause he deserves it whack him again for me T! #AND GENE my baby who is funny enough imo the most similar to bob #like all kids have some traits they’ve got from him and linda but gene reminds me of him in funny ways esp a younger version of him #i really believe bob would’ve been more like gene had his mother not passed and his father not gotten distant #but anyway gene’s seriousness and the way he behaved in the locker love mv episode stood out to me personally #but also the creativity that exists in them both and is expressed so beautifully with what they love #bob with his burgers and gene with his music #and then also tina with her writing and louise with her scheming #but also gene not being too clingy with linda this season is such a refresher cause that was getting too much too weird #and louise is my babh i could talk for hours about her actually #and then bob and linda and their evergrowing love for each other #and then for their kids who they want the best for and it’s starting to become obvious to them that their kids are gonna need them a lot #more often because this season and i’m gonna assume the movie and the next season are gonna introduce more insecurities into the kids’ lives #which isn’t to say they weren’t there before or weren’t insecure before but i think it’ll continue to be pointed out more #they’ve done a wonderful job of raising their babies to be as expressive of themselves as they want to but the world as we saw in the season #12 finale isn’t ready for that kind of expression and it’s gonna hit the kids pretty hard because they’re all weird and different and the #kind of weird and different the world chews and spits out so they’re gonna need to fall back heavily on their parents as well as their #circles which the show developed more this season #with tina and the kids krew and then gene with his growing friendship with courtney and alex and even peter #and then louise and her friendship with rudy and ollie and andy and jessica and millie #tag: bob’s burgers watch

Bob’s Burgers is one of my favorite shows ever. It’s one of my comfort shows. So often adult animations rely on being crude and offensive to be entertaining. Or they lean heavily on abusive family dynamics. After a time, it becomes tiresome. I’m someone who enjoys the kindness in others, not their cruelty. That’s not a revolutionary thing to say, I know. But a lot of adult animation and it’s fans want that offensive stuff, wants to see families rip each other apart whether that be emotionally or physically. But Bob’s Burgers is different.

For so long adult animation pertained to the bad dad trope. We had the Peter Griffins and the South Park dads, for example. But Bob Belcher is a breath of fresh air. It’s been stated that Bob did not have a good childhood. We do know some of the extent of why it was bad. Bad enough that he feels viscerally uncomfortable with his father’s presence. However, Bob didn’t pull a Hank Hill where he just shut down his emotions. He made the decision to be emotionally present.

Tina is awkward and deals with an ever-present loneliness. She feels like an outsider in the world. Constantly voicing her feelings and her frustrations that she doesn’t have true friends outside of her siblings. Rather than just brush her aside, Bob is constantly trying to build her confidence. Bob was an awkward kid who didn’t have true friends. He understands and empathizes with Tina. At one point, he tells her that he would have been lucky to have had her as a friend when he was her age. He shows her the kindness that he never got as a kid.

Gene is a colorful weirdo who dreams big. He’s this bubbly boy who expresses himself however he wants. His passion in life is his very odd and strange music. Bob doesn’t understand it, quite frankly. But rather than react in hostility due to his confusion, Bob looks at his son with wonder. And so many times he tries to reach out to Gene. It works, there are a lot of episodes where they spend time together. Bob, again, doesn’t really understand what Gene does or is interested in, but he tries to. He actively encourages his son’s creativity and loves how strange he is. He’s shows him the acceptance that he needed as a kid.

Louise is quite different from those around her. She’s not one to just run around and ask to be friends with others. Unlike Tina, she’s fine with this. But she still has insecurities that many of us have. She worries about how others view her. Her arc in the movie is all about that. But, with the help of Linda, Bob is able to reassure Louise. Louise takes Bob’s words to heart. He’s not only her dad, he’s her best friend. They joke and banter with the knowledge that they still love one another. He gave her the companionship that he needed as a kid.

The reason Bob’s Burgers and the Belchers stand out amongst the adult animation field is that it proves something. It proves that you don’t need to be cruel and vicious to succeed. You can have an emphasis on kindness. There were notes that the writers got that the Belchers quote “liked each other too much.” But that’s part of the enjoyment for many of us. It can get exhausting watching shows like American Dad and modern Family Guy where there’s little to no love between the families. Bob’s Burgers is the opposite of those shows. It’s a damn good show and a lot of that has to do with the fact that Bob is a damn good dad.

Really enjoy how incorrectly the cishets and NTs perceive Bob's Burgers.

The fandom on other platforms (particularly insta & Reddit) are so emotionally stunted lmao. Seeing fans say Gene is "just a gay boy who likes drag", like, what? What show are you watching? Because my brethren you couldn't be further from the truth. To say Gene being "fruity" equates to him being a they/them-exclusive user is SO off the mark that I'm actually convinced they haven't even watched the show.

And like. The show creators have EXPLICITLY shared show stills of neurodiversity representation on their socials (i.e. sunflower = invisible disability). Yet the cishets/NTs/ "normals" are SO assured their perception of the media is the only correct one that they directly IGNORE these Easter eggs. Like. The first season is leagues ahead of it's time for trans representation yet the cishets only perceive it as "haha tranny jokes :))))”. The media literacy (or lack thereof) is genuinely hysterical to witness at this point.

It's not even just LGBT or ND either, it's so apparent that Gene is heavily influenced by various black and brown cultures. Between his love for "foreign" (non-us) foods, and his love for black music (queen latifah U.N.I.T.Y.), Gene is quite evidently influenced by cultures of colour(gr?). Yet the insta and Reddit side of the fandom absolutely REFUSE to acknowledge this. It's the LeFt putting PrOpAgAnDa in a KiDs ShOw🥴. Honestly ridiculous. Americans are so funny.

I do feel bad that such a huge continent has such laughable education that it's led to this level of poor media literacy. But like, you don't have to confidently run in the wrong direction my guys.

How has a concept that is so silly and simple managed to perplex so many people? What a time🤭

Day 1 of Geneuary Dream / Imagination

Because I actually really love lighthouses and I knew as soon as I saw that lighthouse I was going to draw it someday.

I feel like there’s got to be some metaphorical significance to Gene searching for that light house all episode and climbing those winding stairs and have to travel across the ocean to get there. Something like the light at the end of a tunnel or something.

And it really feels like Gene is in that middle space where he knows what he wants to do, he knows what kind of music he wants to create but he doesn’t necessarily have the ability as an eleven year old to make those things happen. So he’s stuck seeking, climbing up a stair case, traveling across the ocean, looking for a a far away goal that he just can’t reach.

That’s why he looks sad! Sorry to start on such a downer!

Bob's Burgers is such a magical show that manages to always be happy and funny, even when dealing with big emotions or events in the family's life. It demonstrates perfectly how kids can feel unwanted and left out from school, how parents can feel like they have failed in their lives, and just about anything else you can think of, all while making the watcher laugh. The creators and all the people working on it deserves a huge amount of respect and love for being able to make a show about a (semi) failing burger restaurant with a weird family so heartwarming hilarious.

The show, without even meaning too, is also great at demonstraight how neurodivergent people think, act, etc. Gene is a great example of hyperfixating on one thing for years, his being music. Louise is a great example of being unaware of emotions and struggling to deal with her own. Tina is amazing at demonstrating how hard it can be to be in a social setting and how being made the weird kid for liking what you like is very common with neurodivergent kids. And Bob has defiantly got a variety for traits, he is bad with emotions (both his own and others), he likes a sort of routine with certain things, he is always blunt with what he says unless told not to be. Even if this was all never intended, and people that aren't nuerodivergent can do these things too, it shows the sime kind of behaviour one with autism, adhd, and other things like that, exhibit. And it makes them feel seen.

Also, I think the writing is amazing, the character development is great, and the music is always catchy.

Teddy is autistic and that’s why he feels so attached to the Belchers and why he has literal meltdowns whenever is routine is interrupted (i.e. when the belchers close the restaurant for a day)

@dianadeadwing’s recent art of Tina getting into a fight made me think about how Gene really is the sweetest Belcher family member. Okay, yes, I am biased because he’s my precious baby boy, but there is legitimate evidence for this. 

Now, Louise is Louise, and would love to throw down with someone (though I doubt she would do it very often, as she’s a big fan of spectacle and long-term revenge and not actual fist-fights). 

Linda was ready to fight Cynthia, and in general, if someone annoys her, she’s more than willing to go out of her way to upset them. She’s very similar to Louise in that regard. Don’t even get me started on how she was while driving the food truck.

Bob has his whole rivalry with Jimmy Pesto, and even though he’s more lowkey about it (usually too tired to fight someone or hold a grudge), he will throw down in the right situation. For example, in Burger War when Jimmy Pesto insulted his kids, he didn’t even hesitate before pouncing on the guy. 

But Gene is different. He prefers to solve his issues in other ways. Such as in Drumforgiven, where he wanted to settle his dispute with the store owner by simply having a music battle, not an actual fight. And his response to getting kicked out of his own band in The Itty Bitty Ditty Committee was to almost give up on music!! He was barely even mad at everyone who kicked him out. Sure, he was upset, but he hardly held a grudge against anyone, and forgave them immediately when they approached him at the end of the episode. If Tina or Louise had been kicked out and cared as much about the band as Gene did, I can guarantee they would’ve been planning some sort of revenge. 

Revenge never even crosses this boy’s mind—as another example, he even straight-up refused to cheat in the race in Torpedo!! He’s just so sweet 🥺 He also didn’t even want to prank anyone in What A (April Fool) Believes!!

i think when gene is in his early 20s he will be in a band that tours around the new jersey/new york area and it doesn't get like super famous but he has a loyal fanbase and has fun performing and dressing up, when he's a little older i could see him becoming a music teacher at an elementary school and wearing different fun outfits everyday :) all the kids would love him bcuz he's so funny and creative and he doesn't talk down to them and he tells them stories about traveling with his band, kinda has the same vibes as jack black in school of rock??? he really connects with neurodivergent kids who have different styles of learning and have trouble reading sheet music bcuz he knows what that feels like, and he reassures them that they aren't dumb or bad at music their brains just work differently

--Starting at the top left, we have Gene as Cat Stevens, which is an adorable sketch that @koko-raccoon made for me for Halloween when I invaded their inbox for trick-or-treating.

--This is a mini-comic I just Commissioned from @drawthethingdoppelganger of Gene and my Bob's Burgers OC, Alexis. I gave her the roughest and most rushed reference sketch to work with, and she did an incredible job. I'm never getting over the fact that she put a Mickey Mouse on Alexis' shirt and a music note on Gene's overalls. It's so beautiful and perfect and adorable and precious and--

--Here's a sketch I requested from @jae-is-drawing of Bob and Linda in the rain and Linda giving Bob a lil' kiss on his cheek 🥺 They seriously went above and beyond for this sketch, it's so freaking gorgeous and sweet. I can't believe they laid down colors, and did some shading, and lighting too!! They're so talented.

--Then, below the Cat Stevens drawing, is another piece from @koko-raccoon that they surprised me with. They made an adorable piece of my Gravity Falls, OC, Maggie, and her younger, triplet siblings, Dipper and Mabel!! It's the cutest thing ever, I'm so obsessed.

--Then we've got a sketch request that I got from @devilh0rnsinc, and it's so freaking adorable!! I asked them to draw Gene and Alexis sharing a milkshake, and they delivered. I can't stop thinking about them going on a milkshake date now.

--Then, below the Mystery Triplets piece, we've got a Commission I got from @alyssaerin of my sister's and my Animal Crossing characters, who is an extremely sweet and talented artist. I have to thank her once again for being so patient with me throughout the process of when I Commissioned her because I had to cancel my first request, and then when I actually got a request moving, I was a bit picky about the details, pfffft. But it turned out amazing and wonderful.

--Next to that, we've got another @drawthethingdoppelganger piece, and this piece she completely surprised me with. She drew up this fantastic, gorgeous, and colorful piece of Gene (inspired by AJR) and dedicated it to me!! I'm still not over it. Look at his wonderful, flowy hair and his outfit!!

--Then, we've got a Gravity Falls piece I Commissioned from @itscalliebeanie (she's only on Instagram, she doesn't have a Tumblr), of my OCs Maggie and Sydney being adorable dorks together. It came out so sweet and it makes me so happy looking at it. I adore Sydney's guitar. She also did such a good job drawing the shoes!!

--Then we've got the first piece I Commissioned from DT, which yes, I am still not over. It's Bob and Linda based on my "Linda is deaf" AU, and takes place during the episode Something Old, Something New, Something Bob Caters For You, which explains the super cute outfits. But if you've seen my Tumblr at all, you already know all of this, as I've rambled about this piece way too much. But she just did the greatest job on it. Their expressions?? The way you can see Bob signing "yes" with his hand?? Perfect. No notes.
