I miss theatre, I miss Broadway, and right now I really miss Matilda.  Luckily there are bootlegs of the majority of my faves and I’ve been watching those.  Which made me think about @musicalsandfluff and their off the cuff sorting of Matildas in their reviews.  I had an hour to kill, and, well, this was the result.  Well, this and 15 more.
Click to hear me argue my case.  Ignore to not encourage me to do this with more characters.
Sophia - she took the longest to decide on of all 19; you could’ve made an argument for Ravenclaw and Slytherin just as easily.  But ultimately, her anger and gutsiness made me think Gryffindor.  She shouts, she stomps, she will throw down, even when it seems like a terrible idea.  I originally was leaning towards Slytherin or Ravenclaw because when she’s having an emotion that isn’t centered around justice or vengeance, she always looks a little sick about it, like she’s trying to stuff it down and stay strong and immune to things like hope.  But at the end of the day, her righteousness, fearlessness and spunkiness pushed her into Gryffindor for me.  While it’s personally my least-favorite house, a lot of my favorite Matildas ended up there.
Milly - honestly I had to justify this one a bit because I know Milly is a dedicated Slytherin IRL and putting her in any other house just seemed wrong, even though her Matilda is a very sweet kid.  But it occurred to me that no one is born cruel or unfeeling or just an asshole.  I bet many Slytherins have parents rather like Matilda’s.  Where would they have been if they’d gotten away from their parents sooner?  Where would Milly’s Matilda be if she hadn’t?  Her Matilda was already very stoic and unemotional, but still deeply sad and hurt every time her parents rejected her.  Over time, it’s easy for sadness to become anger, resentment, hatred, and you really could see that starting to form in Milly over the course of the show.  Without Miss Honey, she might have been in a very different story.
Oona - Watching Oona’s Matilda go from a spunky, spirited girl to just beaten down over the course of act one was really painful to watch.  She was so big-hearted and open Slytherin was out of the question; too sensitive for Gryffindor; she seemed very emotionally driven, which seemed like a Hufflepuff trait to me.
Bailey -  preternaturally wise and always, always thinking, there was nowhere else for Bailey.  You could see so much in her eyes, even while the rest of her face was still, and opposite Jill Paice as Miss Honey, she seemed like the adult much of the time.

Do you have images in your head of what the kids in Redemption look like? Do you base them off of real people? In my mind, Nathan looks like Chris Pratt and Anna Faris’s son, Mollie looks like the little girl from Good Luck Charlie with maybe a little darker hair, and Becca looks like Oona Laurence when she was in Matilda on Broadway.
We do! And you’re not far off with Nathan looking like Chris Pratt and Anna Farris’ son! And we absolutely adore your headcanon for Becca... I actually think I like it more than who we actually picked! But as it stands these are the definitive pictures of each of the kids, the ones we think of regardless of other cute photos that work

Mollie (my fave actually because I just feel in my heart this is her):

it’s amazing how many times the casting directors found kids who really embodied quentin blake’s matilda.

The Matilda kids make me feel okay for our future.
(And if you’re going to make a comment about kids having political opinions being brainwashing, save your time and just go fuck yourself.  There’s nothing “political” about recognizing that human beings should be treated as such.)

"glasgowman." if a show has ever been better at unintentional hilarity than svu, i haven't seen it.
it's a great part for oona though; happy for her!  and she's doing a great job.
must be former bway kids night on svu; saw dashiell eaves's name in the credits.  (saw him in the sound of music back in '98.)
seriously though raul esparza is too good for this trainwreck.
the kid from paranormal activity 3 and her friend totally stabbed oona.  calling it now.  total fakeout with the lair thing.

happy trails to oona laurence, who will take her final matilda bow today.  of all the matildas, i think i'll miss her the most.  watching her go from impish, adorable and expressive to morose, beaten-down and blank was one of the most soul-wrenching things i've ever seen in my life.

a little detail i neglected to mention from the 9/1 show: when miss honey sang "by this lamp i can read and i am set free" oona gave her the sweetest little smile and like you could just see so much in her little face and OH MY HEART
