tbh I still think Brock Rumlow was an interesting character and upon further examination way more unsettling a villain than most to me because like. Let’s be real, the second you lay eyes on Robert Redford as Pierce monologuing in his pristine suit and glass office high up in the sky he just screams Evil Politician! at you. You can see it coming a mile away. Meanwhile Rumlow is….Just Some Guy. On the surface, he’s just some side dude. He’s not enhanced, he’s not in some major position of power, he’s just someone who’s really good at what he does and seems dedicated enough to the work and functions well with his team. He respects Steve, might admire him even, but not so much that he gets starry eyed like everybody else. He’s lighthearted but focused, he’s no nonsense, he’s the everyman Steve can relate to way more than spooks like Natasha or Fury.

And okay, maybe what Rumlow does for a living is beat intimidate and kill people, but it’s not like that’s the primary objective, right, because SHIELD are the good guys and this is what Steve does now, too, anyway; except that Steve doesn’t really use any weapons other than the shield, he holds back, he doesn’t carry a gun anymore which is usually fine since he’s dangerous enough without it. But when that leaves him vulnerable, he’s covered: Rumlow’s got his six, and he does it well, and he earns some of his trust. This is familiar to Steve.

And maybe Rumlow’s a little too good, fine, maybe he shoots a guy in the head within the first fifteen minutes of the movie when he doesn’t necessarily have to and then cracks jokes immediately after but that’s alright too, because that guy had Steve at gunpoint and that guy was Bad whereas Rumlow is One of the Good Guys just doing his job, right. Rumlow’s joking around because he’s used to the violence, they’re all used to it, and this is just how it works. They’re just soldiers doing the grunt work and following orders, and this is familiar, too.

Except that they’re not soldiers and this isn’t a war, except that the work is for an intelligence agency whose job it is to hoard and steal information and monitor civilians and orchestrate and sabotage and meddle in internal and external state affairs. Except that the Good Guys, in reality, are extremely grey at best. Except that many of the Good Guys turn out to be Nazis on top of everything else, and it’s not that far of a stretch.

But when it’s all starting to unravel, you’re still thinking well maybe some of these guys didn’t know. Maybe they didn’t do it out of individual belief, and if faced with the right choice, they can be redeemed.

That is until you realize that Rumlow maybe didn’t respect Steve and what he did so much as what Steve could do if only Steve weren’t “weak” in other ways, if Steve had chosen the right side. That it not being personal is less a cop out and more a taunt the same way just following orders has always been, for Rumlow and many many men that came before him and will continue to come after. Until the vault when, by the most charitable of interpretations, Rumlow looks at the Winter Soldier letting himself be smacked around and crying and getting shocked like he’s maybe a little unnerved (if not just downright fascinated) by the whole thing, but not enough that it really changes anything for him, because the end justifies the means and it’s not really his problem, anyway.

Until Sam shows up and Rumlow looks at him like a bird of prey and says This is gonna hurt with a fucking smile on his face, and then you think: shit, man, obviously. How was it not clear from the start.

To me, what makes someone like Rumlow a good villain, even a side one, is not that he’s straight up Insane & Evil™️ or suffering from Tragic Backstory Syndrome or all hopped up on magic superstrength juice or whatever, but precisely the fact that he’s Just Some Guy with a cockroach survival mentality who operates well within the established system and just so happens to be really good at his job - a job that he might’ve even joined thinking it was for a good cause, or because he had something to prove, or simply because it gave him one hell of an excuse to be a bully. Because he either wholeheartedly believes in HYDRA or he just doesn’t give much of a shit either way so long as he gets his due in the end, and both are just as bad.

Because when you strip away all the grand scale superhero theatrics, you’ve seen this before. You’ve seen Rumlows in your school and in your neighborhood and in the military and the cop car patrolling your street. They’re the ones who sometimes say or do somewhat offputting shit but you figure it’s fine because they’re otherwise real nice or charismatic or normal looking, or maybe they work a job that’s framed as helpful or protective or inherently good despite the power dynamics at play, or they share your background and interests and you chat about the weather being crap this time of year.

And every time one of them turns out to be a violent, hateful piece of shit, you’re still somehow surprised then, too, when you really shouldn’t be.

Rumlow & Bucky threatening people with a custom SIG Sauer P226 SCT

At first glance Bucky's gun in TFATWS may not look particularly special or appear to have any narrative significance, but I’m here to tell you that’s almost certainly not the case, whether intentional or not.

I already thought the parallel was fascinating when I first noticed these guns looked similar, but the deeper I dug the more compelling the story got. They aren’t just similar, they’re the exact same gun. Which ordinarily wouldn't be that all that special either, since many people use the same type of gun, but this isn’t some generic off-the-shelf model. In fact, I now think this custom P226 SCT is so unique as to be intrinsically linked to Rumlow, and I’m going to make the case that its reappearance in TFATWS is so remarkable that the gun (and therefore likely Rumlow himself) must hold some sort of significance for Bucky.

Buckle up, I’m about to overanalyze the shit out of this gun.

First, let’s look at the facts:

Out of the dozens of guns seen and used in CATWS, the only person to use a P226 is Rumlow. Even after he loses his customized SCT in the scene above, he's seen with another standard P226 in the next scene, which suggests he heavily favors this model. Side note: Knowing this, my new headcanon is that Rumlow is a former Navy SEAL since P226′s are famous for being beloved and carried by SEALs. Plus, everything we know about him lines up perfectly with that background.

Excluding the Winter Soldier’s P220, no one else in CATWS is seen carrying any SIG handgun model. All other SHIELD and HYDRA agents pretty much exclusively use Glocks, which further confirms this custom P226 SCT is undoubtably meant to be Rumlow’s personal handgun (he’s also seen with this same gun in the scene where they’re hunting Steve down at the mall).

Out of the dozens of guns seen and used in TFATWS, the only person to use a P226 is Bucky. Yet again, no one else in the show carries any SIG handgun model with Glocks by far the most common.

This is the only gun Bucky uses in the entire show. The only other gun Bucky even briefly holds is the submachine gun he takes from one of Selby's goons before dropping it seconds later. Additionally, the fact that Bucky has this gun in two completely different scenes, set days apart in different locations, confirms this isn’t just some random gun he borrowed temporarily in Madripoor, but his own personal gun that he purposefully chooses to carry.

Not only are Rumlow and Bucky’s guns the same basic model, they’re specifically the Super Capacity Tactical (SCT) variant, which is already fairly uncommon, but on top of that and more importantly both guns appear to have the same very specific, very unique customizations to the point where I’m almost certain it’s the exact same prop. While the standard P226 SCT is pure black, multiple parts on both of these guns (hammer, takedown lever, magazine release, decocker, etc) have a silvery finish instead, which you may be able to see a bit more clearly here and here. Some of the parts are reminiscent of the Equinox version of the P226, but it’s not a perfect match and notably the SCT doesn’t seem to have ever been made in an Equinox variation anyway. The most interesting features to me though are the bare-metal front and rear cocking serrations, which again are reminiscent of the Equinox except the rest of the slide is still all black. In all of my research that’s not something I’ve been able to find on any other P226 and is not just a part you could potentially buy and swap out. To achieve that look the slide would have to be very deliberately hand-sanded or machined. This detail, combined with the other custom parts, undoubtably makes this gun one-of-a-kind.

Now some may try to argue that if we look at other Marvel movies we might find that this particular prop has been reused before and this gun is not as unique in-universe as it might seem. Don’t worry, I’ve looked into this too. At least according to IMFDB’s current records, not a single P226 SCT, much less one with these customizations, has ever been identified in another Marvel property. Rumlow’s gun in CATWS and Bucky’s gun in TFATWS are the only instances this gun, or anything like it, has shown up.

Maybe the reappearance of this gun was just meant to be a cool Easter egg for eagle-eyed gun enthusiasts. Maybe it’s meant to be something more. I don’t know and I honestly don’t care. Because here’s the thing, regardless of what was originally intended (death of the author and all that), the facts remain and they paint an undeniably compelling picture of something that has actual narrative weight.

Whatever Doylist reasons this gun may’ve been chosen for Bucky out of the dozens, if not hundreds, of potential options, if we just look at the facts and try to make sense of them in-universe one thing is clear: there’s no way Rumlow and Bucky would both have this exact gun by pure coincidence. It’s not standard issue for SHIELD or HYDRA and it’s not some run-of-the-mill, off-the-shelf weapon Bucky could’ve easily picked up somewhere on a whim. He made a deliberate choice to acquire and carry this gun. And given this custom P226’s extreme uniqueness paired with Rumlow and Bucky’s likely history, there are really only two possible scenarios that I can see:

Bucky sought out and somehow recovered Rumlow’s gun from the wreckage of the Triskelion at some point, making it quite literally the exact same gun.

Bucky tracked down the same already uncommon model and specifically customized it to match Rumlow’s favorite gun (which he would’ve had to have been very familiar with to get all of the details just right).

Either option is intriguing, to say the least. It certainly brings up more questions than answers, namely: What is the significance of Rumlow and/or his gun to Bucky/the Winter Soldier, and why does Bucky care about it so much that he took the considerable time and effort to either recover the original or recreate an exact copy?

[Disclaimer: By no means am I a gun expert, but I did try to be thorough in my research. A lot of my conclusions are based on info pulled from IMFDB, though not all of it. While IMFDB isn’t perfect, as it’s just a publicly run database and not an official source, I’ve found it to be quite comprehensive when it comes to popular shows and movies and its contributors are generally very skilled at identifying weapons. However, if any gun experts think I’ve made a significant error, let me know!]

The first time was hinted at but Echo is smut free (implications only). Bearing that in mind, it was never fleshed out, so to speak. From where the scene ends, it’d be a good bet that things started on the couch. No doubt some pulling at clothes while trying to keep lips locked, some warm hands finding warmer places before it would move to the bedroom, for a little more space than the couch could offer and the kind of protection the pistol mounted under the coffee table couldn’t afford.

They make it to the bed, after leaving a trail of hastily stepped out of shoes and clothes across the floor. The first time is more about attraction than doing much exploration- that kind of clichéd urgency that puts a sheen of sweat on brows and leaves breathes panting. A little animalistic and a lot of fun, but not much on deep connections yet.

She doesn’t stay the night though. She’s just pulling her jeans back on when he comes out of the bathroom. He watches for a second, more than a little surprised (and disappointed) to see her leaving, before he gestures limply to the side of the room and quips with a crooked grin about “If it’s about all the paperwork on the dresser, it only looks like that when it’s review time.” to mask his wariness to know if it was just a one night stand for her or, worse, a regret. She glances over at the stacks of files. She hasn’t noticed. Pulling on her shirt as she steps into her shoes, she assures him “No” and laughs. The reply isn’t much comfort to his nerves, but he turns anyway to follow her back downstairs when she invites, “Walk me out?”

She excuses herself on the way down the steps that she needs to be up in the morning to meet Rogers, and genuinely thanks him again for the delicious meal, though he still feels a little dejected, even as he puts on a grin to give her his thanks for the compliment and opens the door for her. Any and all doubts are relieved though by the kiss she presses to his lips and the warm smile that takes over her lips when she steps back and tells him goodnight.

Sinopsis: A veces los secretos pueden ser peligrosos, o una carga muy pesada cuando hay que guardarlos, es lo que Kathleen ha hecho por años. Ella también será la encargada de guiar a Steve Rogers en este siglo; mientras tanto S.H.I.E.L.D. buscará la manera de echar a andar la Iniciativa Vengadores, integrándola como uno de los superhéroes, pero no será el único peligro al que se enfrenten.

Un par de chicos golpeaban a Steve, cuando Bucky llegó a golpearlos y ayudo a Steve a llegar a su casa y curarle las heridas.

—Deberías dejar de buscar peleas, tu madre se va a volver loca de nuevo cuando te vea así, ella se esfuerza demasiado como para que te metas en problemas —lo regaño Bucky.

—Lo sé, pero estaban molestando a una chica y no podía…

—Y ella ni siquiera te dio las gracias —recriminó Bucky, Steve bajó la mirada, avergonzado.

De pronto la imagen se distorsionó, estaban en el tren tratando de llegar hasta Zola, Bucky colgaba peligrosamente de un tubo; había salido disparado por un ataque del enemigo, Steve trataba de alcanzarlo para meterlo en el tren de nuevo, pero no lo logró, su amigo cayó, el desasosiego era terrible.

Despertó en una habitación obscura, estaba sudando, de pronto le pareció ver la sombra de Bucky saliendo de la habitación, lo siguió tratando de alcanzarlo y llamándolo, pero no se detenía hasta que le pareció escuchar del otro lado la voz de Peggy, trató de caminar hacia la voz.

Se encontraba en otra habitación, la cual estaba vacía, continuó caminado, no sabía dónde estaba, tampoco había encontrado su escudo, por lo que estaba más alerta que nunca, no tenía ni idea de qué iba a encontrar, volvió a ver la silueta de Bucky; esta vez entrando a otra habitación, lo siguió hasta que escuchó un gritó, parecía la voz de Kathleen, finalmente confiaba en ella después de todo lo que habían vivido hasta ese momento, no podía quedarse ahí sin hacer nada, debía rescatarla.

— ¡Kathleen! ¿Dónde estás? —Steve volvió a escuchar otro grito y corrió hasta donde prevenía el ruido, al entrar la encontró en el suelo, en un gran charco de sangre, moribunda, se acercó a su lado y la tomó en sus brazos—. No, no me hagas esto. ¿Qué pasó? ¿Quién te hizo esto? —Cuestionó sin soltarla, ella empezó a cerrar los ojos sin decir una sola palabra—. Vas a estar bien, yo te voy a cuidar —prometió.

No se dio cuenta de que había alguien enfrente de él hasta que alzó la vista, era Bucky con su uniforme de sargento.

—No puedes salvar a nadie, no me salvaste a mí, ni a ella, sabes que estás condenado —sentenció su amigo para luego esfumarse.

—Steve, Steve, despierta, es una pesadilla —la chica trataba de despertarlo, en cuanto empezó a escuchar quejidos se preocupó y fue a ver a la habitación del supersoldado para saber que pasaba, después de varios intentos finalmente logró despertarlo no quería entrar a su mente sin su permiso, él abrió los ojos, muy asustado.

— ¿E-estás bien? —Steve cuestionó tomándola de los brazos y prendió la lámpara que estaba en la mesita de noche para asegurarse.

—Sí, estoy bien, tuviste una pesadilla, eso es todo lo que pasó —Kath respondió y de manera inesperada él la abrazó, ella abrió los ojos sorprendidos, él nunca la había abrazado hasta ese momento, sin embargo, le correspondió, ella no era una persona muy cariñosa más que con sus padres y amigos muy cercanos, pero de alguna manera lo que sentía por él era especial, recordó algo que solía hacer cuando tenía pesadillas—. Tengo un pequeño truco que podría ayudarte con la pesadilla, a mí me ayudaba a calmarme cuando las tenía, si quieres podemos intentarlo —propuso, aunque no podía negar que se sentía nerviosa, ya que no sabía exactamente si él ya confiaba plenamente en ella.

Steve asintió, le pareció rara la propuesta; sin embargo, confiaba en ella; él sabía que no le haría daño, en ningún momento había hecho algo para que desconfiara, así que si decía que eso le iba a ayudar así sería, la mutante puso una de sus manos en la frente de él y cerró los ojos

«Deja que todo el dolor se vaya», a él le pareció escuchar en su cabeza, la miró algo confundido. «Sí, otro de mis poderes es la telepatía. ¿Cómo crees que puedo leer la mente? Ahora relájate», ella continuó comunicándose de esa forma.

De pronto se sintió invadido por una tranquilidad increíble que no había tenido desde que despertó y lo siguiente que empezó a ver en su cabeza fueron recuerdos, los momentos cuando se sintió más feliz, cuando su mamá estaba viva, otros tantos con Bucky, era como ver una película adentro de su cabeza, así siguió hasta que se durmió.

Cuando despertó, se asustó al verla entre sus brazos, habían dormido, abrazados, pero… ¿Había pasado algo más?, de pronto recordó lo que había pasado la noche anterior y se sintió aliviado, al menos no había cometido un error, simplemente había sido un mal sueño y momento, aunque realmente aún sentía que todo lo que estaba pasando era un sueño y que cuando despertara aún estaría en la guerra, probablemente durante alguno de los ataques había quedado inconsciente y estaba en la enfermería del campamento.

Ella se había ido a su trabajo, él aún no tenía muy claro muchas cosas, como por ejemplo cuáles eran los verdaderos poderes de la chica y porque no estaban todos en el expediente, los motivos reales por los que lo ayudaba y un sinfín de cosas más, ni siquiera podía creer aún que sobrevivió todo ese tiempo en el hielo; sin embargo, le agradaba la compañía de ella, pero quería saber más de Kath, así que cada vez que podía revisaba las cosas en la casa, aunque no encontraba detalles sobre el pasado de Kath.

En el Triskelion, Kath revisó en los archivos a los que podía acceder desde su computadora, en ninguno estaba la información que requería. Fue directamente a la oficina de Brock, antes de tocar, él abrió la puerta.

— ¿Ahora tú también tienes poderes o cómo es que sabías que iba a tocar? —le cuestionó.

—No, es coincidencia, me toca entrenamiento, ¿necesitas algo?

— ¿Sabes si los documentos de Rogers están en el Archivo?

—Deberían, no creo que tengas problemas con tu nivel, pero ¿para qué los quieres?

—Creo que le gustaría leerlos —respondió Kath.

— ¿Aún estás a cargo de él?

Ella asintió y Brock soltó un gruñido, no le gustaba nada lo que ocurría.

— ¿No tenías entrenamiento?

—Sí… Te veo luego.

Steve se encontraba en la sala dibujando en su nueva libreta cuando Kathleen llegó con varios expedientes, él la miró fijamente, era raro que trajera trabajo a la casa.

—Busqué en todos los archivos, son los expedientes de tus compañeros de guerra, me imagino que quieres saber qué pasó con ellos después de todo este tiempo —le entregó los folders y empezó a buscar en su bolsa—. Casi olvido esto —sacó la brújula—, la encontramos el mismo día que a ti, pero se me había olvidado entregártela, creo que es algo importante para ti —la dejó en la mesa mientras le sonreía con un dejo de tristeza, no lo había olvidado simplemente no había querido y muy en el fondo sabía que sentía celos, los cuales habían comenzado cuando vio la foto al interior, aunque no entendía los motivos.

Something that I feel like we also lost out on with not getting a real Cap 3 that doesn't get talked about as much is more villain Brock Rumlow. Like, I absolutely hate his guts but I would have liked to have seen a little bit more of him before he was killed off. I'd have loved to have seen Bucky kick him around a bit lol.

(Sorry this got long cos I’m trying to brainstorm the tone for him within my fic and I often do a stream of consciousness for these 😅)

CATWS Rumlow is one of those characters who is left deliciously open-ended for the fandom to do what they like with him. He seemed to be a bit of the brains of the STRIKE team (the only one given any lines anyway), being both loyal to whatever Hydra was doing and having enough self-awareness to choose the time and place of his actions. Killing him off as a suicide bomber in CACW was such a waste of this character.

I don’t have the GIFs for it, but that camera focus on Rumlow during the vault scene can be read in many ways (depending on your kink preference) - it was an interesting mix of fascination, horror and pity.

The most sympathetic (to Rumlow) reading is that he has an instinctive respect for people who are strong (eg Cap), and he did respect the strength of what the Asset was (even if he didn’t care about the personhood). But when he saw what they did to create a killing machine like that and how broken the human underneath that was, maybe he had a moment of pity, regret and also fear of what Hydra might be willing to do to him and the other Strike members to make them stronger. The least sympathetic reading has spawned enough HTP I don’t need to go into it LOL.

I always got the impression that Rumlow wasn’t that personally involved with what happened to Bucky, though, so I feel like he’d be a fairly peripheral target of retaliation if Bucky did want to go down the revenge pathway. He looked taken aback at what Bucky was undergoing in the chair, and this quote:

He remembered you. I was there. He got all weepy about it 'til they put his brain back in a blender.

The way this is said feels like he’s only there for that one incident (that the audience saw). If he had seen it happen regularly, I feel like the wording would be subtly different (the “I was there” emphasis suggests this was a rare occasion and it was unusual for him to be present).

That said, I do think whatever “humanity” he had in that scene would have been destroyed along with the burning building. The Rumlow that came out of that would be even more full of spite and harshness. He’s no longer in a position of power, and I think he would probably want to hurt Bucky more than Bucky cares about hurting him. The Asset being both strong but vulnerable is similar to the situation he finds himself in right now, and reasserting his dominance in their dynamic is a way for him to prove his own worth (to himself).

I would love to see Bucky being pushed into giving him a good whipping. But my preference actually is for Bucky to not even care who he is, because there’s nothing more soul-destroying than realising the person you see as your opponent…don’t even care about your existence.

Steve feeling like Leila just threw away everything they had and didn’t even care

Leila connecting Steve’s rejection to her past relationships. She’s seen this happen before, she should’ve known how it would play out.

So after coming out of the ice, Leila kind of becomes a constant for Steve; she’s the one who recruits him for the Avengers, and then for SHIELD, most of his SHIELD missions involve working with her, and she sort of becomes his touchstone, his anchor to the present, without really trying. Then they fall apart in Tokyo and suddenly he has nothing to ground him.

(“So what am I defending” could refer to Steve losing faith in SHIELD due to losing faith in Leila; the two are intrinsically intertwined in his mind.)

“You were my town, now I’m in exile seeing you out”

Again, Steve feeling very out of place now that he doesn’t have Leila to anchor him

“I can see you staring, honey

Like he’s just your understudy

Like you’d get your knuckles bloody for me”

Steve won’t admit how jealous he is of Rumlow, to Leila or to himself, but he is and it’s in his eyes.

“Second, third and hundredth chances”

On Steve’s side: he feels like looking back he always had misgivings about Leila deep down but ignored them and kept giving her chances to earn his trust, but she never did

On Leila’s side: She feels like she had tons of chances to push him away, to keep him at arm’s length, but she didn’t take them and she should’ve.

“Balancing on breaking branches”

Related to the above, their relationship has always had that underlying tension and was always bound to snap in some way

“Those eyes add insult to injury”

Leila looking into Steve’s eyes when he’s confronting her and seeing so much distrust that she can’t even think of coming clean to him about why she did what she did (even before she finds out he was reporting on her to Fury.)

“I’m not your problem anymore

Leila putting her walls back up and being a dick again because she’s not bothering to be open with Steve anymore

Same as earlier where she connects their falling out to her previous relationships, but this time with an element of prevention. She’s not going to stay and try to defend herself to someone who (she thinks) doesn’t care, when it’s never worked before, and she’s not going to stay attached to him and let it get as bad as it did with Johnny or David.

“All this time, we walked a very thin line”

Going back to how there’s always been an underlying tension in the relationship that was bound to snap.

“You didn’t even hear me out”

Both of them feel this way about their fight in Tokyo, but Leila especially feels like Steve just turned on her at the drop of a dime and didn’t care enough to get her side of things.

“You never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)” Steve feeling like this side to Leila came out of nowhere bc he ignored the red flags and tried to believe the best of her, vs Leila saying that she gave him tons of signs that this side to her existed and he should’ve known.

(This might be part of why she allowed herself to get close to him; she thought he was seeing the signs and intentionally choosing to be close to her anyway).

“I never learned to read your mind (you never learned to read my mind)”

Despite caring deeply for her, Steve never fully understood Leila and that’s the catalyst for their explosion, for him being so shocked by this violent side to her.

i believe this is the rule you are referring to, in my "following & unfollowing" section

the short answer is that it means both. hydra was created to be a direct parallel/representation of the nazis, and are confirmed to be straight-up neo-nazis at least in agents of shield, and i believe in the comics as well. disney didn't own up to it because they didn't wanna lose money from real-life neo-nazis, and to sell more hydra merch. so, unless your character is undercover at hydra, they are a nazi (i the hydra your character is in is exclusively 2014's ca:tws hydra? where that is not as explicit because, once again, the mouse.). if you agree with their beliefs, weeeelllll......

because hydra = nazis, i am not interested in writing with hydra characters (generally i don't even like antagonistic threads). if you have, say, a rp blog for brock rumlow and another for thor, i will interact with thor! but for example, if you reblog, on your thor blog, brock rumlow appreciation, "hydra husbands" (aka shipping him with jasper sitwell, another hydra agent), meta that makes him look like a good guy/paint him in a sympathetic light/as victim, i'll probably be unfollowing you.

stuff like a fanart of bucky throwing him off a cliff, or a meta about how evil hydra is, maybe a fic snippet wherein he's very much a villain, is fine, though.

the fact STEVE ROGERS was made hydra is wrong on so many different levels and i'll unfollow if you think it was in any way acceptable. (if you don't know, that is perfectly fine, of course! look up a bit on how, when, why and by whom he was created, and then consider the implications of making him a nazi...)

obviously none of this is representative of your beliefs, brock rumlow (as well as other characters by virtue of being hydra) is just a character that i strongly dislike, so there is no reason for me to put up seeing him on my dash, y'know?

(if you're a multi, i can probably just block his tags and carry on blissfully unaware!)

Hello! I’m still not over your deep dive into Brock Rumlow’s custom SIG Sauer P226 SCT. I was wondering if there was any indication as to what caliber model was used? I’ve been reading up on these babies and they come in 9mm, .40, and .357.

I'm so glad you enjoyed my deranged ramblings, anon! I'm also still not over The Gun.

The short answer is no, I don't know the caliber for certain. But I'll tell you what I do know and maybe you or someone else will have more luck than me deciphering it.

On a P226 the caliber is always stamped on the right side of the barrel in the ejection port cutout. This makes caliber identification for The Gun challenging for multiple reasons.

First, the text is tiny and difficult to read even in images with perfect lighting like the one above. Second, while there are a few good shots of The Gun in both CATWS and TFATWS, there's only one (1) decent shot of the right side, and even in the highest resolution I've been able to get (see below), the text is just too shadowed and blurry for me to make out with any confidence.

Additionally, it doesn't help that most gun images are of the left side (as this is where most of the controls are) so references for comparison are hard to find AND the exact text can vary. For example, I've seen some P226 9mm's stamped as "9mm PARA" and some as "9mm x 19" and there could be other variations I don't know of since my gun knowledge is limited.

My guess is that it's a 9mm, as that seems to be pretty standard for the P226 (though Rumlow's gun is clearly not standard) and it looks kinda like that's what it might say, but unfortunately I can't give you a definitive answer.

@chujo-hime: I remember like circa 2012-2013 I had a ~moment~ because the webmaster of FYBN followed me. Chujo always has quality content, and is someone I respect for being very genuine and respectful. If something’s drawn her ire or made her bitter, she has a reason for it, and can write a solid meta on why it’s bullshit. At the same time, she’s someone who I’ve looked to when I consider how to handle my own fandom disagreements. It’s not worth arguing with people on the internet, it’s never fun. So long as people enjoy what they enjoy? Stay in their lane and let others do the same? We can all get along~~~

@cimikat: Katie is another person who I don’t even remember following. I can’t really remember my tumblr experience before her, though? I can say without any hyperbole though that she’s probably the nicest person I’ve ever encountered on this website? Literally, I can’t think of a single time I’ve seen her be salty. Ignorance isn’t always mean spirited, and in the past I’ll admit I’ve been an ignorant white boy. Not that I was prejudice, there was just a lot I was either blind to or unaware of. I’ve learned a lot about Romani culture by following Daz. A lot of history, a lot about the struggles and persecution they still face to this day. I also learned lot about the LGBT community; which honestly was a big help when I was trying to figure out/accept my bisexuality.

@diaryofawriter: What do I even say about you? believe we met because we both RP’d in the same fandoms and enjoyed the same content. Comics, OUAT, Harry Potter, and Star Wars. She’s both listened to me flail or rant countless times, either feigning or expressing genuine interest… for that I’m truly appreciative. She’s also helped me when it comes to letting go of things that are no longer fun or enjoyable for me (OUAT) and focus on the things that do bring me joy. A role model in that sense. >.>

I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but I really respect her. She’s just a good person, very down to Earth and very witty. We don’t talk that much, but it’s always very pleasant when we do? Sarah was the first one to reach out and respond when I came out as bi. I’m still not out to my family. When I posted that little confession, I didn’t know what to expect. I simultaneously cared and didn’t care how people responded. It was weird, because it was something I had tried to deny and rationalize for so long. It’s something that no one should even care about, but Sarah empathized and realized it was kind of a big deal for me? Her reassurance that I wasn’t alone, even in such a short and concise message meant a lot. She’s one of my favorite mutals tbh.

@kennyhoemega: Bethany is a Goth Goddess. I’m not just saying that because she demanded the best compliment. On a superficial level, she’s just really pretty?? Now that’s out of the way, let me tell you legitimate reasons why she’s one of my favorite people to follow. She’s got great taste in music, she loves Star Wars, dabbles in Marvel and Harry Potter. You see a theme here with people I follow. She just also tends to reblog really neat things unrelated to those? I’ve gotten into astrology because of her. It’s mostly her fault that I’ve started watching wrestling again, bc there’s nothing good on TV and her passion is contagious and the gifs she reblogs are wild. She also has the best tags out of anyone I follow, bar none. I don’t even know when I first followed her either, around 2012 or so, but I know that it was absolutely 100% Sarah’s fault. Thank you, Sarah. TBH the first time I remember interacting with Bethany was when I added a gif and sarcastic comment to one of her salty posts about people trying to woobify Brock Rumlow. The next day, I realized this was likely not the best way to make a first impression? Fortunately she assured me that she got it, and that we were cool. Which is a relief, because as I’ve told her (and IDK if she believes me) she’s probably one of the coolest people I follow? It’s come to light that neither of us are big talkers, so we don’t actually talk that much… but she’s really rad. IDK when it started but she’s consistently been in my tumblr crushes for ages. Lots of mutual reblogging, again, lots of respect. She’s witty and intelligent. That’s not butt-kissin’, I’ve seen her post about certain tests and looked them up out of curiosity and wow. Yeah. Bethany also has the longest compliment, so that should make her happy. There was something about my needing a nuclear bunker if she wasn’t on this list. She deserves it though, she’s another one of my faves.

@kittenspawn: Nichole is my unofficial big sister. I say that as someone who actually has a big sister. She messaged me in 2012 with questions about Bucky and Natasha, and from that point on she was screwed. She got me into Hellboy in turn, but I like to think I’ve thoroughly corrupted her and caused her to spend far too much money on certain things. Nichole is someone who I can go weeks without talking to, and yet we can fall right back into conversation as if we talked the night before. She’s been a terrible enabler over the years, but she’s also been there for me during some difficult times and when I’ve done very stupid and questionable things. I know she’ll say I’ve been there for her as well, but the scales are seriously tipped here. When I need advice, or when I need to talk to someone about something serious… she’s the person I go to. I can always count on her, and she’s pretty much family at this point.

@ohmygil: Gil. I think I found you through Davis? You’re just a very sensible person, and very rational about a lot of things. It’s refreshing to see that on the internet these days. You’re someone who I don’t think I’ve ever had a actual ‘discussion’ with, but I’m including you here because I really enjoy your presence on my dash. I stopped reading DC regularly with the New 52, and pretty much all my DC intake these days is absorbed through your blog. You also get points for liking Superman. @rocktheholygrail: Dana is someone I met through the iZombie fandom, and she is another wizard. A gif wizard, who has too often indulged my requests or suggestions. She’s another person whose enthusiasm is contagious. I was able to convince her to watch the entirety of Prison Break (save the revival) in less than a month before it was taken off Netflix. I don’t think I ever apologized for that. Dana also is trash tho, bc like me, her favorite iZombie character is the trashiest. I say that tongue in cheek, at least the first part. It’s really been great though to have someone who recognize a character as both human and horrible, and who is capable of watching and enjoying them despite their being problematic. If this was another fandom, I’d expect to be judged or ostracized, but instead I’m enabled once again.

@swanmagic: Gia is another person who doesn’t post on tumblr much (at least her personal) these days, but I’m including her because she’s been one of my favorite RP partners for years and we still talk from time to time on twitter. She’s just a great writer, great person, great friend. She’s another person who has excellent (and varied) musical taste.

@thealbooty: I met Alberto through Davis. It’s another thing where I don’t remember the circumstances, there was just one day where suddenly Alberto was in my life. Alberto is just a good guy… and I just mean good. He’s pure. If Davis is Spongebob, I’m Squidward and Alberto is Patrick. Only not as dumb. We don’t talk as much these days which makes me sad, but I love him too. Back in the day the three of us used to have group Skype chats and watch movies together. There was one day when Davis couldn’t make it or wasn’t online, and he and I just watched Hellboy and chatted for a few hours. That’s when Alberto went from being a friend of a friend to my friend. I’m glad he’s my friend.

@thejazzdalek: Max is another person, like Gil, who I’ve never really had a discussion with? He’s followed me for ages though, both on tumblr and on twitter and I appreciate that. I don’t really know him that well after all this time, embarrassingly. He seems like a nice guy, though. Big into Doctor Who, OUAT, DC, Marvel, just sci-fi and fantasy in general.

@timelessmulder: Emily-Alice is someone who I’ve been mutuals with since like 2012 I think. I don’t even know if we’re in the same fandoms anymore, but we keep following each other regardless. Over the years we’ve discussed everything from OUAT to DC, and these days when we talk it’s mostly to pick apart The Flash. She’s someone who has been with me for ages though, and has seen things.

@uhohjonsnow: So Betty is one of the first friends I actually made on tumblr when I engaged in fandom? I was an obnoxious teenage white boy who thought he was straight and acted like it, and she tolerated me anyway. Again, she’s someone who was witness to a lot of nonsense. We really were dicks to each other, lmao. I adore her though, bc she really is sweet and laid back. We went for years without talking,not due to any falling out, but we just drifted apart. She actually took a year off tumblr and recently returned, and we reconnected. She also accidentally deleted her blog and started fresh, so um, go follow her!

@uminoko: We’ve been mutuals for like years, and she’s just a nice person? Again, that’s a pathetic compliment, but it is true. She’s also another individual who I feel I’ve learned from by following? Part of that has to due with her being a former civil rights lawyer, but beyond that she’s just yet another smarty pants who I don’t talk to that much. She also messaged me privately when I came out, and made me laugh when I needed it. Also, she’s an actual Russian who is a fan of Black Widow and Winter Soldier.

@uncleclustersthirdbrain: Donnie. This might be a little weird, because Donnie and I only reconnected like two weeks ago after three years of not really talking to each other? Again, there’s no bad blood, and he deserves to be on here. I’ve actually known him for five years, we met through his girlfriend Morgan. Donnie’s another person who has seen things, re seen me at my worst. Most obnoxious, outspoken, salty, dickish… and so on. I’ve always sort of looked up to him, though? Back when 17 going on 18 year old Tim met him, there was a sort of ‘notice me sempai’ thing going on. He’s yet another person who is too cool for me. In spite of toolish tendencies, there were times when Donnie reached out to make sure I was okay when I was being dramatic and having anxiety attacks over damn comic books. It sounds ridiculous, and it was, but at the time comics were my escape and how I dealt with a lot of tough shit I was going through. I was invested. Heavily invested, to an unhealthy degree. He’s just a good person who cares about his friends, and people in general. He’s also a fucking brilliant writer, who just recently put out his first comic. So I’m going to use this as another excuse to pimp it for him. Not because he’s my friend, but because I’m a selfish bastard who wants to read more and wants you to give him money so he can make more. He makes no personal profit from it, all the money goes towards paying his artists and the production. I’ve pretty much walked away from buying monthly comics, but as I’ve told Donnie, this is one I would pull. The first issue of And The Hare had some of the best dialogue I’ve read in a comic in easily the last year. At least.

@xeleyan-tequila: I met Chelsea through the OUAT fandom, and like me she gave up on the show a long time ago. She’s another person I don’t really talk to that much these days, but she’s a lovely person with a lovely blog who posts a little bit of everything. There are personal details to our relationship I won’t get into bc it’s no one’s business, and though we’re still friendly we sort of fell out of touch. I enjoy following her though, and she’s a wonderful human being.

Again, this one fits snowcap’s falling out.

Steve knowing that Leila’s always kept him at arm’s length (or tried to) but still being shocked at how they fell apart so quickly.

“It’s getting dark, and it’s all too quiet, and I can’t trust anything now”

Steve being genuinely devastated by their falling out. I talked here about how Leila was more than a friend, she was his anchor to the modern world, and without her he feels very lost.

“And it’s coming over you like it’s all a big mistake”

Steve can tell Leila regrets it somehow (regrets what she did to Alex? Or regrets getting close to Steve in the first place?) but he's so stunned he can't grab onto it

“Oh, losing my breath

Won’t see you again”

He will see her again, but not in the same light.

“Something’s made your eyes go cold”

This could refer both to when Leila dissociates and almost kills Alex, and also when she turns icy and refuses to talk to him when they fight.

"Come on, come on, don't leave me like this"

He feels very alone and ungrounded without her.

"I thought I had you figured out"

Again, it's this devastation.

Again, Leila was his anchor and he feels lost in the modern world without her.

He tries to move on from what they had, but he can't--especially when they’re still working together.

"Stood there and watched you walk away from everything we had"

This is Leila's POV. From her side, Steve is the one who rejected her.

"But I still mean every word I say to you"

This is a reach but: despite lying to him and pretending she doesn't care about anyone or anything, she means it because she's trying to believe her own lies.

"He will try to take away my pain

And he just might make me smile

But the whole time I'm wishing he was you, instead"

Leila will still see him but she won't see him as in, being close to him like she was. (Also her avoiding him.)

"Something keeps me holding onto nothing"

Despite their estrangement there's still a connection between them...only people who care about each other could be that mad at each other.

"Come on, come on, don't leave me like this"

During the fight itself, Leila internally begging him not to leave her and to give her a chance to explain.

"I thought I had you figured out"

Leila thought she knew that Steve would never understand her, she didn't realize how much hope she was holding onto.

"Something's gone terribly wrong, won't finish what you started"

The way that they had this budding romance and it was very suddenly cut off.

"Can't breathe whenever you're gone"

Leila takes his rejection and sudden absence in her life hard.

"Can't turn back now, I'm haunted"

Leila wishing she could just let go and pretend it never happened and she never wanted him but it's too late to go back

"I know you're not gone

You can't be gone, no"

Secretly, way, way deep down, Steve hopes that eventually he'll make peace with Leila and they can at least be friends again; he's desperate for a reason to believe in her again.

(Leila is too cynical to have that hope.)

Le plein d’anecdotes

ATTENTION, CE QUI SUIT CONTIENT DES SPOILERS SUR AVENGERS: ENDGAME…

Maintenant que les Russo, réalisateurs d’Avengers: Endgame, ont levé l’interdiction des spoilers, la déferlante arrive. Surtout du côté des anecdotes. Es-tu prêt ? Car il y en a un paquet !

Je t’aime trois fois mille, a true story

La réplique “Je t’aime trois fois mille” vient de Robert Downey Jr. lui-même. D’après son expérience avec ses enfants. C’est ce qu’ont révélé les scénaristes, Christopher Markus et Stephen McFeely. À l’origine, la réplique était “Je t’aime énormément.” (“I love you tons.”), Robert a proposé la réplique que ses enfants utilisaient et elle a été adoptée.

Quand la réalité rejoint la fiction.

Robert Downey Jr. n’était pas chaud pour le “I am Iron Man.”

Anecdote tout aussi cocasse. On est tous d’accord pour dire que cette réplique était parfaite pour conclure l’arc de Tony en plus de moucher Thanos et sa réplique, “I am inevitable.”. Dans cet article, j’avais remonté que cette réplique était un ajout de dernière minute suite à une idée du monteur. Les Russo étaient vraiment chauds à l’idée de tourner cette scène. Il ne manquait plus que Tony pour la faire, mais manque de bol, ce dernier était réticent à revenir sur le tournage.

C’est une histoire intéressante. J’ai dîné avec [Robert Downey Jr.] environ deux semaines avant le moment où nous étions censés le tourner. Et il était genre : “Je ne sais pas. Je ne veux vraiment pas revenir en arrière et entrer dans cet état émotionnel. Ça va prendre… c’est difficile.”. Et c’est assez dingue, Joel Silver, le producteur, était au dîner. C’est un vieux copain de Robert. Et Joel intervient et il dit : “Robert, qu’est-ce que tu racontes ? C’est la meilleure réplique que je n’ai jamais entendue ! Tu dois dire cette réplique ! Tu dois le faire !”. Merci Dieu que Joel Silver était au restaurant, car il nous a aidés à convaincre Robert de dire cette réplique.

Comment Anthony Mackie a appris qu’il allait hériter du bouclier ?

Anthony Mackie est désormais le nouveau Captain America suite à une émouvante scène de transmission de bouclier. Mais comment son interprète a-t-il appris la nouvelle ? De la meilleure des façons ! Par Chris Evans. Mackie raconte, via io9,…

Nous étions chez lui et il m’a dit : “T’es excité ?”. Et moi, “De quoi tu parles ?” et il m’a répondu : “Tu ne sais pas ?”. Il se lève, sort de la pièce en courant et revient avec le scénario… Nous avons pleuré. Nous avons bu. Nous avons ri. Je suis très heureux d’avoir eu ce moment avec Chris, pour qu’il me passe non seulement le bouclier, mais aussi pour qu’il me dise que cela allait se passer.

Et sur le tournage, alors ?

Cela signifie beaucoup pour moi que mes fils voient Captain America comme un mec noir et que je sois ce mec pour mes fils. Donc, ce moment n’était pas simplement “Hé, jouons.”. C’était plus une simple chose. Et puis ils ont coupé et j’ai pleuré. Et Chris a pleuré. Et les Russo ont pleuré. Et tout le monde a pleuré. C’était une journée chargée en émotion.

Katherine Langford dans la série 13 Reasons Why.

Le rôle coupé de Katherine Langford révélé

La star de 13 Reasons Why, Katherine Langford, avait été annoncée au casting d’Avengers: Endgame dans un rôle mystère ayant alimenté des théories. La fille de Scott ? Celle d’Hawkeye ? Une fois le film fini, on a été beaucoup à se demander où elle était passée ? L’avait-on loupé ?

Non, elle a simplement été coupée. Qui jouait-elle ? La fille de Tony Stark, Morgan. Une version plus âgée. Pour quelle scène ? Pour une scène coupée survenant après le snap de Tony. Anthony et Joe Russo l’ont révélé dans une interview de l’émission MTV, Happy Sad Confused :

Nous avions l’idée où Tony irait dans la station métaphysique où Thanos a été quand il a claqué des doigts. Et qu’il allait y avoir une version future de sa fille dans cette station.

Dans Infinity War, Thanos y retrouvait une jeune version de sa fille, Gamora. Et si cela fonctionnait à merveille pour le Titan Fou, les Russo se sont rendus compte que ça n’avait pas le même effet avec Tony. En effet, avec une version plus vieille de Morgan qui sortait de nulle part, cela apportait de la confusion au public.

Anthony Russo : Ce que nous avons réalisé, c’est que nous n’avions pas ressenti d’attachement émotionnel avec la version adulte de sa fille. Donc, cela ne nous a pas interpellés et ne nous a pas touchés sur le plan émotionnel.

Joe Russo : L’intention était que sa fille du futur, parce que ces films traitent de magie, sa fille du futur lui pardonne et lui permette de partir en paix. Et l’idée a résonné. Mais c’était trop d’idées dans un film suffisamment compliqué.

Pour le coup, si l’idée de la scène était bonne, voir même émouvante. Le gros problème, à mes yeux, était d’avoir impliqué une version “inconnue” de sa fille. On n’aurait pas compris. Pour le coup, s’arrêter à la réplique et enchaîner sur la déchirante scène de Tom Holland passe mieux.

Le problème Ty Simpkins

Si le public s’est demandé qui était ce garçon aux funérailles, pour rappel, il s’agissait du gamin d’Iron Man 3, il n’est pas le seul. Révélations d’Anthony Russo à un podcast de ReelBlend :

Vous allez apprécier ça. Pour faire ce plan [NdM : le plan culte où la caméra parcourt l’assemblée lors des funérailles], pour rassembler ce casting, nous avons répété ce plan comme un fou. Nous avons configuré les mouvements de la caméra avec des remplaçants. … Parce qu’ils allaient tous être dans ce plan, nous avons passé des jours à le préparer. Des journées ! D’accord ? Nous avons donc eu tout le monde. Tout le mouvement de la caméra a été déterminé spécifiquement. Nous avons eu le temps. Tout était parfait, ok ? Donc nous sommes au jour J, on a finalement mis les acteurs en scène pour la première fois, ok ? [rires] Et nous avons ce moment sur le plateau où nous allons, lui [Joe Russo] et moi, avoir une attaque de panique à propos de Ty, parce que nous avons cette sur Ty.

En effet, tous les acteurs connus demandaient que représentait cet ado… De quoi foutre du stress quand on doit tourner un plan compliqué.

La bataille finale avait plus de scènes de réunion

Un point qui m’avait surpris durant la bataille finale, c’était que les scènes de réunion se faisaient très rares. Les réalisateurs ont révélé à MTV qu’à l’origine, il y avait plus de scènes de réunion. Par exemple, une entre Rocket et Groot (celle dont l’absence m’a le plus marquée). Une autre avec Ant-Man et La Guêpe. Et d’autres encore qu’ils n’ont pas révélé. Néanmoins, ils se sont rendus compte que ça surchargeait trop la bataille. De plus, ces scènes de retrouvailles pourraient faire l’objet de futurs films du MCU.

Difficile de leur donner tort. Mais au moins Rocket et Groot, quoi !

Endgame s’appelait à l’origine Infinity Gauntlet

Pendant longtemps, le titre du quatrième Avengers a été gardé secret. Toujours à MTV, Joe Russo a confirmé que le titre original d’Avengers: Endgame était Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet. Ca a été le titre pendant longtemps. Ce qui explique pourquoi, en 2017, Zoe Saldana a cru avoir spoilé le titre quand elle a dit Infinity Gauntlet.

I remember being blown away in this moment on the @avengers set. Nobody was allowed to film anything on their phones. I said screw it. No rule was going to stop me from seizing this once in a lifetime opportunity to capture this collection of stars, a groupthat likely will never be in the same room again. We are so blessed.
