Just ten minutes ago, Y/N had been speeding down some highway under the burning afternoon sun, sunglasses perched on the tip of her nose like some old Hollywood type starlet. Her heart had been lighter, her smile had been wider, and her foot had hurt a hell of a lot less because she wasn’t kicking the shit out of the car’s now-flat tire.
“Fuck!” Sweat beaded at her forehead on the side of the highway as the cars speeding behind her took no sympathy to her situation. A rock sat behind the car, such a small item that obstructed the road, but she hadn’t noticed it until it punctured her front left rubber and sent her slowing down. The old car rumbled to a stop and since then she’d managed to push the stupid piece of junk to the weed covered side pavement, bringing the rock with her so no other hopeless bastard would get stuck in her predicament.
Clive- actually, was it Clive? Yes, yes it was Clive, Utah that she was stuck in. Clive was pretty far from California. As Rebecca Barnes’ best friend, she was obligated to carry out her maid of honor duties. Which she did, pretty damn well if she said so herself. The eighteen year-old girl and her boyfriend had made a snap decision in the spring of their freshman year of college to get hitched, and with that quick decision came the quick planning. A rustic July wedding in Tahoe, quite aways from Brooklyn, but the couple had insisted, wanting to be closer to the schools they’d be transferring to that coming fall. Every other event, the bachelorette party, the dress fittings, the excessive amount of partying on the other hand had all taken place on the Upper East Side in Manhattan.
Y/N had fulfilled every wish, from helping to send out invitations and picking out decorations and setting up guest tables in between her classes as a sophomore in college. It still boggled her mind how her younger best friend had grown up so quickly, and how the time seemed to only pass quicker as the wedding approached. Planning took place during sophomore finals, and June was dedicated to the quaintest details. She’d taken two weeks of vacation from her job at the small deli corner in Queens to road trip her ass across the country, and though Y/N herself was normally extremely unorganized she had to give props to herself for pulling her shit together for her best friend’s wedding.
But the last step, the most important step, was actually being there for the wedding, and now she was fucking up all of her hard work. Of course, the event was two days away, but Tahoe was also sixteen hours away and there was no service within twenty miles that would be able to fix up her car quick enough to get back on the road in time.
For once in a near perfect five months, Y/N was completely and utterly fucked.
With a loud groan, she lifted her arms from leaning on the hood of the car and opened the driver’s door. She landed in the seat and dug through her Kate Spade purse for her phone. Becca’s name came up as her first emergency contact as it had been since wedding planning began, and she clicked on it immediately.
Y/N held the phone up to her ear, listening to the drawled-out noise of the call, biting her lip in anticipation. The bride was probably busy preparing for the rehearsal dinner the night after or at the spa, but regardless, the ringing stopped and the light, chirpy voice of Rebecca soon-to-be Carmichael-Barnes came through the speaker.
“Hey, Y/N, what’s up? There anything wrong?” Y/N was a little offended that her best friend immediately assumed the worst, but maybe it’d make the delivery of her news easier.
“Kinda? A stupid rock blew out my front tire, so I’m kinda stranded in Utah.” It was dead silent on the other end of the phone, and she could feel disappointment radiating from her best friend. Becca had taken a big risk with Y/N- she wasn’t known for being the most reliable, because she was carefree and a trademarked wild child, but she had done everything perfectly up until she got stuck on the side of the road. A heavy feeling of guilt sat at the bottom of her chest and she fought off tears as she spoke. “I’m so sorry, Becca, this is supposed to be your big event, and I just fucked up being the maid of honor while you should be relaxing.”
“It’s fine, Y/N, we’ll think of something, please don’t worry. There’s gonna be a simple solution-” The pitch of her voice went up an octave as an idea popped into her head. Y/N could just see the smile that took over her best friend’s face, and she fought the urge to hang up because Barnes’ ideas were not known for being brilliant. “Oh, babe, I’ve got the perfect solution! I literally just got off the phone with Bucky, he’s half an hour behind you. Still don’t understand why you two refused to come together because you're coming from the same city and…”
Truthfully, she did not give a damn as to the rest of what her best friend was saying. Becca probably was rambling on and on about the reasoning as to why the two wouldn’t carpool, but Y/N could only try to imagine what being in a car with Bucky Barnes for seven hours or more would be like.
“Alright, I’ve just texted him now! He’s getting gas but will be there soon.”
What.
“Becca, no, he really doesn’t have to do this, I can call the company and wait here-” Anything besides being in a car with your asshole brother.
“Don’t talk nonsense, Y/N, it’s fine. I need my maid of honor here by tomorrow to celebrate my last days as an unmarried woman.” Without leaving room for Y/N to speak, she sped up her words, finger hovering over the button to hand up. “Bye! I love you! Bucky will be there in thirty minutes!”
The call went dead, and Y/N had half an hour to prepare for Bucky’s arrival.
She started by calling the nearest towing company, negotiating to bring it to the motel at the border of Utah and Nevada. It was about three or four hours west, but she figured that she could survive that long in a car with Bucky.
Her next order of business was to repeatedly smack her head onto her wheel, waiting for death to take her before Bucky did.
And that was exactly how he found her, slumped over like she’d been shot dead. Bucky honked twice, gaining her attention as she shot up with a glare. She turned around, seeing a man wave at her through the front window of his car. Barnes.
Reluctantly, she pulled herself from the hot car, stepping out into the equally hot air as Bucky did the same, and-
Oh Lord. Only two years since she had seen him last, and James Buchanan Barnes looked good.
He was taller, at least four inches taller than she had last seen him, and his once-long hair had been cut into a fluffy, shorter style, matching his stubble way too well in a messy, but cute way. And his muscles- his arms were bigger. So. Much. Bigger.
He donned a ratty Star Wars tee and a pair of black jeans, a pair of dirty combat boots at his feet. But he looked good in it. Fuck him.
“Buck.” Y/N sniffed, trying her best to keep a neutral expression.
The boy- no, the man responded with a similar face, offering nothing but a tight-lipped smile as he slammed the door shut. “L/N.”
There it was.
She snorted at the snark he shot at her, grabbing her luggage out of the back of her car and loading it into his. “We can leave the car here, I called the towing people and they’re gonna bring it up to the next motel.”
That seemed to surprise Bucky and it showed. His face was caught with pinched eyebrows and parted lips. “You called before?”
“Yeah…” Y/N answered slowly, “why do you sound so surprised?”
“That’s just not your thing.” His answer just stewed with sass and it pissed her off more than ever. She swore there was smoke coming out of her ears.
He pried her duffel bag from her clenched hands harshly, nearly smirking out how irked she visibly looked. With a childish pout she dropped the rest of her bags to the dusty ground (probably more hurtful to her than to him, though she’d never admit it) and stomped to the passenger seat.
He followed soon after, plopping in behind the wheel with a heavy sigh and grabbing his sunglasses off the dash with his prosthetic hand. She watched him, how he acted so normal when their situation was everything but, and failed to keep herself from speaking her mind.
“Those glasses make you look like a douchebag, Bucky.”
He stuck the key in the ignition, keeping his eyes on his movements intently and choosing to actively ignore her taunting. The car took off after a few sputters, and they were back on the road.
The first three hours, playing Bucky’s favorite Utah radio station (“Why do you have a favorite Utah station?”) as they ignored each other in bliss. The sun had begun to set, pinks and orange swirling in the sky to give off golden light across the barren land.
Y/N snapped photo after photo- it was so pretty that she had to- but that’s when she started admiring Bucky again. This time she didn’t even try to be subtle.
“Why’re you lookin’ at me like that?” Bucky questioned quietly.
“Just wondering how you kept your looks up so well.” Y/N scoffed, brushing off his question. “Only two years into college and I look like I haven’t slept since I was ten. I mean, look at these fuckin’ eye bags…”
She inspected her face in the mirror, prodding and poking at the skin. “I think you look just as pretty as you did in highschool, sweetheart.” Bucky commented.
His words woke dusty butterflies up from their slumber, their delicate wings wildly flapping around in Y/N’s stomach. It took all of her willpower to not deflect his compliment, and she mumbled a thanks under her breath.
They didn’t speak for an hour after that.
It was only once the sun had gone down and the moon came out to play did Siri warn them that the motel was coming up. Bucky’s hands hadn’t left the wheel either, keeping to a stoic expression and nearly still posture as he drove the two of them. Y/N was yawning, fiddling with her phone without a thought in her bored head, up until a song she hated came into the station they were listening to.
She leaned forward to switch it, but it turned classical and she had to groan. Her fingers tapped different parts of the screen, just begging to find something pleasing to listen to. His selection was shit.
He hit her hand away from the console, his disgruntled face concrete. “Stop touching that, it’s not a damn video game.”
“Not my fault you enjoy shitty old music.” She grumbled and hit her head against the back of her seat, turning slightly to admire Bucky’s concentrated face. Not much had changed since high school. A bit more scruff and darker circles under his eyes, but Bucky Barnes was still attractive as hell. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the motel sign in view, about fifty feet up. “Wanna fuck?”
She watched as his eyes widened and his hands fumbled with the wheel, skewing out of the lane. Cars behind him honked angrily at his mistake. Bucky’s face had turned an adorable shade of crimson, the blush rising to his forehead and down his neck barely visible in the night. Once he’d regained control of the car, he trained his eyes back on the road with a sharp glare. “I don’t want to ruin our… friendship,” he grunted.
Y/N snorted, throwing her arms behind her head and yawning. “I wouldn't call four hours of not killing each other in a car friendship, Bucky.” She didn’t catch his small frown, how his shoulders slumped as he finally pulled over into the small motel parking lot. “I won’t, if that’s what you’re really worried about.”
“I will.”
“Just wanted to get some fucking dick, but leave it up to you to ruin something simple as that.” Y/N spat back.
It was nearly cinematic, the way the music died down and the tension rose. The car came to a full stop, Bucky suddenly too aware of the angry glare aimed at the side of his head. “What the hell are you talking-“
“Oh, don’t act stupid, Bucky. Who was it who upped and left that morning, Bucky? ‘Cause I certainly know I was the one sitting and crying on the half-empty bed.”
And just like that, she was thrown back into the full rage and sadness that the summer before college brought her.
They had both been seniors, both not quite popular and most definitely excited to get out of New York. He was an MIT-bound nerd, early admittance and everything, but she was slowly breaking down and falling behind in AP physics. They’d met each other before, with ten years of friendship with Becca there was no way that they couldn’t have run into each other. But it was only when Winnie Barnes suggested that he tutored her did they become close.
Y/N had been mortified of getting a tutor at age eighteen, she should’ve been going out and enjoying what little bit of highschool she had left, but both her mother and Bucky’s had insisted. So it began with the library after school, fingers tracing sentences on a textbook and Bucky whispering formulas across the table.
She didn’t know when or how she started actually listening to those whispers, or when they started to make heat rise to her face or her heart beat a little faster. He didn’t know when the loud, energetic girl with attention issues started to grow on him either.
Over the last remaining months of school, her grades progressed as did their friendship, which was bordering on something… else. He’d come over to her house, she’d go to his and no longer did he tutor her. They’d watch Netflix, hell, Y/N even got Bucky to knit with her, and no one else batted so much as an eye. Graduation passed, and summer just brought on more time for the two of them to spend together.
It was the night at the drive in. Both of them had never spoken of it, but the way that they stared into each other’s eyes for just a second too long as Summer Nights blasted through the car radio spoke what they had wanted to say for so long. Soon enough they were driving home at an alarming speed, holding hands and giggling like idiots through the halls of Y/N’s empty house.
The night was made of shaky hands and fumbling around. Slow movements and sweet whispers of reassurance, getting caught in a night-long romance that neither of them knew would end so abruptly the next morning.
“I was just trying to protect you, sweetheart.”
Y/N scoffed, “From what exactly, Bucky? You broke my heart instead, so great fuckin’ job with that.” She tried to hide her tears with ill-fated words, but he knew she didn’t mean them.
“Hey,” he grew defensive, finally unbuckling his seatbelt so he could sit up in his seat to face her. It was only then did she realize how much Bucky towered over her still in the small car, his head nearly hitting the roof at full height. “It wasn’t easy for me either, you can’t blame that shit on me, Y/N.”
“Well as far as I can remember, you were the only one not willing to take a chance on us, asshole.”
“Don’t fucking call me that, you’re not being fair.” Bucky spat.
“It’s cute that you wanna talk about this now like adults finally, two years after it happened. You had so much time to call me about it, but you just had to save yourself from your consequences, right?” His silence answered her instantly. She rolled her eyes in annoyance, trying to stop the ache in her chest with any anger she could grasp. “Typical. I’m Bucky Barnes, I kiss peoples asses and I can’t confront anything I fuck up-“
She barely had time to process Bucky’s hands lifting her over the seat, but she had just enough mind to feel his chapped lips against hers. It was after he opened his mouth against hers, his tongue delving between her lips, did she notice the sensation of two hands on her skin, one cold, one warm. His touch lit her skin up, nerves rattling at his touch as she reciprocated the kiss with ferocity. Her hands flew to his cheeks, massaging the stubble scratching at her palms until he pulled away. Though his heart was nearly beating out of his damn chest, he couldn’t help the fond chuckle that came upon seeing Y/N’s swollen lips and lust-filled eyes. “You never just shut the fuck up, do you?”
His words took a moment to register with her, and he could tell the moment it clicked in. Eyebrows furrowed adorably, she opened her mouth to spout some more shit about how he had no right to kiss her after everything that had happened (they both knew she would pretend to have hated it), but all he could focus on was the stupid button on her jean shorts.
He cupped her cunt through the rough material, and her train of words stopped at the contact.
She was fucked.
Her hips bucked into the heel of his palm, her lips finding home on his once again. Fingers worked diligently to unbutton her shorts, both of them shoving her bottoms just low enough to straddle his thighs. She dove for his zipper, biting Bucky’s lower lip when he laughed at her struggle.
“I can smell you, sweet girl,” he smirked against her lips, “you’re really worked up, ain’t ya?”
“Shut up,” she retorted, slapping his cheek. Oh, no one had ever done that before. He liked it. “When did you learn to talk like that anyways? You weren’t nearly this good last time.”
“We were fuckin’ virgins, Y/N, I’ve learned since then. Turns out that girls in college hump anything that breathes, got quite the experience in a few years.” Her hands paused in smoothing over the burn of his cheek and his grin grew even wider when he realized she was going green. “You jealous, sweetheart? Got no reason to be, only ever thought of you.”
He lifted his hips to drag his jeans down his thighs, and good God, she did not remember them being that muscular and her pussy was just dripping for them. For him, because then he took off his shirt- fuck, he had to have lifted in the last two years. There was no other explanation for the thick, corded abs that took over his torso. Definitely not there before.
Her hands slid down his chest, finding rest against the burning hot flesh that had been revealed to her. She let her fingers dip into the scars that littered his left shoulder, those she remembered as bright as day. Their beauty, how she kissed them and told Bucky how gorgeous he was with everything he hated about himself.
She pulled away from his mouth, just for a minute, and let her lips trace that same path down the angry red lines. His eyes fluttered shut at the light contact, basking in the peace her presence brought his guilt and being.
But as soon as the moment was over, her eyes met his again, only to fly shut as she slammed their mouths together again. Teeth clattered against each other as she palmed over his erection, caged inside his boxers. Oh, he was straining. A wet patch formed on the fabric, showing him to be just as needy as she was.
Without another second to waste, she slipped her cold fingers under the elastic, feeling Bucky jolt when she wrapped her hand around him. He was hot and leaking in her hand and when she finally pulled him out of his boxers, well, she had to keep from her jaw dropping open.
His head painted an angry shade of red, precome smeared all over and she couldn’t fight the urge to tease him. Gripping him in a loose fist, she twirled her thumb around his tip, eliciting a loud groan from Bucky. She jerked him slowly, making sure to apply pressure to the prominent veins that ran up his shaft.
Pulling a condom out of the cup holder- she’d ask him about it later- she ripped it with her teeth and inspected it for just a second to make sure it didn’t tear. Bucky had to chuckle at her cute little pout as she put it up to the light of the night, her elegant features just illuminated in the moon. When she was satisfied with the quality of the condom, she rolled it on him, slowly and tortuously, so he could feel the drag of it in full sensitivity.
Her face lowered to his- with his sweat-beaded forehead, reddened cheeks, and mouth puffing out quick little breaths- and he let her think she had him. Lips taunting his with the little smirk he knew all too well, she believed that she had him under her control.
Then, before she could even catch his movement, his metal hand moved to her throat, fingers pressing at the sides, and the tides flipped. He was the one smirking then- grinning like a hyena when he saw Y/N’s eyes roll back. Her chest was heaving, hips mindlessly rutting down onto his, just begging to have him inside her, and he had her right where he wanted her.
Bucky took her silence, that very rare occasion she wasn’t mouthing off, to line up his cock to her entrance with her free hand. His warm hand sliding up the inside her thighs, he snaked it around her hip, and with one movement, guided her hips down his length. Both of them let out a moan at the intrusion.
It felt so good and natural. Maybe Bucky was lying about the other girls, he probably just watched too much porn in his dorm room to learn that type of dirty talk. He didn’t know really where the dominance came from, but what he did know was that it was doing both him and Y/N wonders by the way her cunt was clamping down on his dick.
She made herself comfortable on his cock at first- after all it had been since that summer two years before that she’d been with someone: him- but after the delicious burn of him went away, she was bouncing up and down on his cock like a desperate whore. Bucky readjusted his prosthetic hand around her throat, pressing harder on the junctures and praying to God that they’d bruise later on. Her gurgles, her body instinctively begging for breath, made him grin, and he smacked her ass harshly one, two, three times, just to make sure she got the message that he was in charge. It may have been two long years without each other, but he was dead set on proving to her that he wasn’t planning on leaving her- never again.
“C’mon, darling, I know you can move better than that, go a little faster.” Bucky groaned.
He dragged her lips down to his by the hand wrapped around her throat, letting their tongues entwine as he slammed her hips down onto his cock. She let out a high whine into his mouth, finding it in her to bite down on his lip as her eyes met his hungrily.
Bucky continued to bring his hand onto her ass one after another, his slapping falling in tandem with that of their skin clapping together. “Bucky, oh- James,” she groaned after he hit her again, “you feel so good.”
Her knees hurt, digging into the edges of the cramped car seat, but she made no move to adjust them. Both of them were too caught up in each other to pay the space they were in any attention. Bucky’s hand trailed down her throat, moving under her shirt to feel up the soft skin of her stomach and sliding the fabric up. She whined at the coolness of his hand on her collarbone, feeling the warm air of the car peak her nipples into little buds.
The more her sweat slick torso that was revealed to him made his mind reel, and he was forced to pull away from the intoxication of her lips to taste her skin too. “Honey, you’re so, so fucking gorgeous,” he groaned against her sternum. He bit, licked and nipped, sucking to make sure dark bruises would show up, biting lightly on her nipples and marking her in every right. “Taste so good too, no one’s ever as good as you.”
Even though her mind and body were on a high of ecstasy and pleasure, his words gave her a sense of renewal, grounding her to that moment in the car with him. Her hips were losing rhythm- she was close and her lower stomach was bundling up inside, just begging to find release.
He could feel her desperation to let go too- he needed to just as bad. Bringing his right hand down to her clit with a harsh smack, he let two fingers rub her wetness around the sensitive bud, teasing the swollen flesh over the edge.
His hips snapped up into hers when her knees began to fail her, heaving with slow breaths as he staved off his orgasm for hers. “You can let go, darling, I’ll take care of you just fine.”
The feel of his calloused fingers against her clit sent her over the edge. Her hand grasped at the closest thing, slamming against the window with its freezing condensation under her palm. Her cunt clamped on Bucky’s cock with wild ferocity and her head fell back, leaving her neck exposed for him to bite down on as he chased his own release.
She continued to ride him, sensually and slowly, and soon enough he was coming into the condom, groaning praises about how she felt wrapped around his dick. He kissed her delicate skin, soothing his marks with chapped lips and pink cheeks. “You look so pretty when you come, sweetheart. ‘M so glad you were so good for me, like you were made to take my cock. God, I love you so much.”
When her cunt finished milking his cock, the soreness kicked in. Bucky lifted her off of his cock from her armpits, letting her slump forwards tiredly on his chest. She was nearly asleep, even with her sweaty hair and come leaking out of her swollen pussy, her eyes drooping heavily. Bucky wanted to clean her up, to care for her and talk with her about how much he missed her, but he could tell she needed to sleep.
Moving his lips to hair, he whispered quietly. “Hey, darling?” She hummed in response, and he could feel her eyelashes flutter lightly against his bare chest. “You wanna get cleaned up? You can get some rest in the backseat, I’ll watch out for your car.”
She sat up, rubbing her eyes blearily with pouty lips. Bucky didn’t know where they stood; he wanted to kiss her so bad in the moonlight, but he stood against it. He helped her pull her panties back up her legs, the jean shorts following behind. He wrapped up the used condom, sneaking out of the car to toss it in the trash without anyone to see him in the parking lot.
By the time he came back, Y/N was wrapped in one of his sweatshirts, curled in a fetal position in the backseat. He took a minute to look at her, longing to lay by her again.
Y/N sensed his eyes on him. His stare was never exactly subtle. “Come over here, James,” she yawned, “you make a comfy pillow.”
She sat up and before she could even fully understand what was going on, he tackled her into the seat, pressing her body against his as she squealed. “You’re squishin’ me, Buck, can we move around?”
His face flushed, and once again he was reduced to being a blushing, stuttering mess around her. “Oh God, yeah, m’ sorry.”
He laid back on the seat with his head crooked against the cold window, gesturing for her to lay on top of him. She complied happily, resting her head right under his chin, her ear right above his comforting heartbeat. Neither of them really felt sleepy anymore, the full force of what their sex was to them hitting them so suddenly. “Honey?” Nothing in response. “Can I tell you something?”
“Buck, can we talk about this tomorrow-”
“I can’t wait to talk about this tomorrow.” He recoiled at the desperation in his voice. Clearing his throat, he tried to start over again. “‘M sorry about that. I just wanted to tell you, before we fucked, like when we were driving but I was being an ass and still now, I guess-” he huffed out a sigh, lost for words as he encompassed the feeling of having her body pressed against his. It had been two years after all. “God, I’m just fucking this up, aren’t I?” Y/N nodded and he chuckled at her blatant honesty.
“I’m not good at emotions. I guess that’s why I left that night, but it’s just because I’m a huge fuckin’ coward. Was scared how big my feelings for you were and that we were goin’ to different colleges, but that doesn’t seem so scary anymore. It’s easy to say this now, ‘cuz I love you and nothing is keeping me back from saying it anymore.”
Those words. She’d been waiting to hear those words in her fantasies for two haunting years, and now that she had- it just made her the happiest girl on the planet. But she couldn’t let him get away with what he did so easily. Y/N grinned against his chest, lifting her head up to kiss his scruffy jaw. “You said that already, Buck.”
“What?”
“Told me you loved me already.” She shrugged.
“When did I- oh.”
You look so pretty when you come, sweetheart. ‘M so glad you were so good for me, like you were made to take my cock. God, I love you so much.
His cheeks reddened again, embarrassed that he had gotten caught before his big planned speech, but Y/N grabbed his hand and kissed it before resting it over her chest.
“But for the record, I love you too. It’s been a long to years without you, Buck.” She smiles. closing her eyes and burrowing herself farther into his chest. “Now get some shut-eye, we’ve got some shit to talk about tomorrow.”

That one-night stand from a week ago is your new neighbor.
You’re perpetually single and staying with your married friends for a while. Their neighbor is nice though.
You’re wanted for a murder you didn’t commit, and the only person who believes you is the child of the lawyer trying to prove your guilt.
Your friend-with-benefits is avoiding you, but not for the reason you think.
Your car breaks down on the way to your best friend’s wedding. Luckily, they offer up their asshole sibling to take you the rest of the way of the very long road trip.

Her life was quiet but fulfilling, and luckily she only had to see her mother a few times a year, one of those times being their yearly ski trip. Cassie intended on introducing her new boyfriend to her family, only for him to leave her high and dry. That is until she meets someone she’d only ever read about in the news.

Chapter 3
Cassie could feel the sun beating against the side of her face and along the curve of her body. She debated letting herself drift off again, but she knew her mother would throw a hissy fit if they were ‘late’ to breakfast. Slowly opening her eyes, Cassie admired the God-shaped lump lying opposite her; Thor hadn’t moved an inch. She noticed how peaceful he looked and was already feeling bad about having to wake him up.
Thor grumbled under his breath, muscles creaking as he stretched out his legs and his eyelids fluttered open. “Good morning,” Thor whispered.
“Good morning,” Cassie hummed, smiling sleepily at him. “I hate to say this, but we have to go find my family.” Thor tried to hide his distaste for the idea, but his nose still scrunched in disgust, and Cassie giggled.
“That was rude,” Thor sighed, rubbing violently at one eye.
“It’s okay. I’d rather go out and get frostbite” -Cassie sat up slowly, stretching her arms over her head- “instead of having breakfast with my mother and her friends.”
“Her friends?” Thor asked, sliding out of bed.
“Yeah, a few of her friends and their families are here too. I’m hoping no one recognizes you,” Cassie revealed.
“I was a little surprised your family didn’t recognize me,” Thor admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. He shuffled over to his suitcase, ruffling his sleep mushed hair with a yawn, before digging through it.
Cassie crawled to the edge of the bed, stumbling towards Thor and quickly throwing her own suitcase open too. “Hey, I won’t complain.” She pulled a pair of worn-in, black sweatpants out along with her violet NYU hoodie.
“We don’t have to dress nice?” Thor asked, a pair of jeans hanging from his fingers.
“God no, it’s….” Cassie trailed off, tapping her phone screen to wake it up. “It’s 8 am, fuck what my mother has to say.” Thor let out a relieved sigh, dropping the jeans and fishing out a pair of dark gray sweatpants, drawing a laugh from Cassie. He glanced over at her, smiling brightly as the sun created a halo of light around her as she laughed.
Tumblr media
Before bothering to find her family, Cassie steered Thor towards the barista at the coffee station in the dining room. Once armed with coffee, the pair wandered farther into the dining room, looking for Cassie’s family; Thor leaned close, his breath puffing against her ear, letting her know he found them, but she was too focused on how close he was. Thor steered her towards the table near the ceiling-high windows, his palm fitting against the curve of her waist.
Spencer was the first to see them and lit up, waving enthusiastically at his sister. “Morning, sis,” Spencer called. “Morning, Theo.” Thor smiled warmly at her brother, taking another sip of his still scorching coffee.
“Morning,” Cassie greeted, smiling at her brother. “Where’s mom and dad?”
“Dad’s over here” -Spencer pointed to a table to his left- “and I don’t know where mom went.”
“Cassandra,” Noelle scolded through clenched teeth somewhere behind the pair. “Do you go out of your way to look homeless?”
Cassie rolled her eyes, scrunching them shut before she turned to face her mother, briefly catching the sour look on Thor’s face. “Good morning to you too, mother.”
“I think she looks beautiful,” Thor cut in, bending forward. Cassie borderline melted when he pressed a forceful kiss on her cheek as his arm settling on her shoulders, pulling her into his side. Noelle glared up at the God but didn’t say anything else.
“Ah, Theo!” Martin called. Cassie looked over Thor’s giant arm, finding her dad jogging towards them. “I want you to meet a few people.” Thor glanced down at Cassie, his eyebrows pulling together, creasing his forehead, and his eyes widening. Before she could say anything, Martin already had a hand on his arm and was pulling him towards the table he came from.
Noelle rolled her eyes and sighed dramatically, shooting Cassie one more disappointed glare before she turned away. “Eat,” she ordered over her shoulder.
“I know.” Cassie dropped into the chair across from Spencer with a sigh; she looked to her right and found Thor perched on a chair surrounded by her father’s friends, looking overwhelmed. As if he could feel her staring, Thor’s eyes flickered to her; his beautiful sky-blue eyes widened comically. Cassie bit her upper lip to hold in her laughter and winked at Thor from across the room; he rolled his eyes, his mouth twitched up on one side until someone grabbed his attention again.
“Ew,” Spencer snorted, rolling his eyes playfully.
“Piss off, squirt,” Cassie laughed, throwing a packet of butter at him.
Tumblr media
A few hours later, the pair found themselves bundled up in snow gear, watching the snowcapped mountains in the distance as they rode the ski lift up. Cassie could hear Spencer talking to his friend, Alex, that showed up that morning behind them; she jumped when Thor gently grabbed her hand, pulling her attention forward again.
“So what’s the point of this?” he asked, looking at his feet as he knocked the skis together.
“Fun,” Cassie chirped. “Trust me; I think you’ll enjoy it once we get started.” She squeezed his hand, smiling at him and trying not to bounce excitedly in her seat.
“I trust you,” Thor sighed, looking down at his feet again. Cassie ducked her head, hiding the blush spreading across her face, and noticed they were almost at the top of the mountain. Thor was initially tentative, not entirely comfortable going down the mountain on two ‘flat sticks’, as he called them. Spencer and Alex rolled their eyes and pushed off, cheering as they raced down the side of the mountain; Thor watched in awe, a bright smile spreading across his face, and he quickly positioned himself as they did. Once they got through the first trip down the slope, they didn’t stop again until Cassie was too cold to stay out any longer. The couple shuffled into the lodge, stripping off their outermost layer; Cassie made a beeline for the hot chocolate the inn provided.
“Want some?” she asked, holding another cup towards Thor. He squinted at the brown liquid, subtly sniffing it but shrugged, humming happily at the warmth in his hands. Cassie picked up on the faint gasp from above her and glanced up to see the joy bursting in Thor’s eyes. “I take it you like the hot chocolate,” she laughed, sipping her own.
“Very much,” Thor assured enthusiastically. Cassie watched him hold the cup close to his face, and his shoulders pulled up towards his ears as he closed his eyes, letting the steam curl over his cheeks. The peaceful look on his face was something she was sure was a rarity in his life, and she soaked in every second she could. Thor’s eyes blinked open slowly, the corner of his mouth lifting over the top of his cup, causing Cassie to duck away, embarrassment burning in her cheeks. Thor reached out, curling his fingers in the soft fabric around Cassie’s stomach, and tugged her forward. She stared up at him, her lips parted in shock, coaxing a throaty chuckle from the Asgardian.
“Thor?” Cassie’s voice was barely above a whisper, only loud enough for them to hear. He tilted his head forward, thoroughly studying her features before their eyes met; Cassie’s chest pressed into Thor’s with every shallow inhale, and she became painfully aware of how close his mouth was.
“Tell me to stop.” His voice rumbled between them, sending a chill down Cassie’s spine as she leaned closer, leaning in to finally-
“Cassandra!” Noelle shouted, hurrying across the room. The couple tensed, hesitating for a moment before putting some space between them, both taking an awkward sip of their steadily cooling hot chocolate.
“Yes, mother,” Cassie sighed as Noelle scurried closer.
“There you are,” she hummed. “The ladies want to meet Theo.” Cassie screwed her eyes shut, barely containing the exasperated groan bubbling up.
“Of course,” Cassie replied, shifting her gaze up, only to find Thor already looking at her. He graced her with a warm smile, his fingers brushing against her palm before creeping into the spaces between her own fingers.
“Ladies!” Noelle giggled, waving the three other women over. Mrs. Clarke was a short, obnoxious woman that wore too much makeup for Cassie’s taste, and of course, she was the first to make it over.
“Hi Mrs. Clarke,” Cassie greeted flatly, not bothering to wave. Mrs. Clarke feigned excitement, yanking Cassie into an awkward hug, forcing her over highlighted hair into Cassie’s face, and ripping her hand away from Thor’s.
“Cassandra, dear, how are you!” Mrs. Clarke squealed, squeezing Cassie’s arms as she pulled away. Before she could answer, another familiar voice called her name, drawing her attention to the tall, exotic woman striding closer.
“Mrs. Armstrong,” Cassie greeted, giving her a tight smile. Mrs. Armstrong leaned in, pressing a barely their kiss on her cheek before stepping aside to let Mrs. Jones get closer. “Mrs. Jones.” Cassie thanked God that Mrs. Jones wasn’t her biggest fan and didn’t even bother to act like it.
“Ladies,” Noelle hummed. “This is Theo.” The three other women’s eyes followed Noelle’s outstretched hand; Cassie watched all three of their eyes widen as they crawled up from Thor’s feet to his face. All three burst into conversation, attempting to talk over each other while moving closer to him; Cassie growled under her breath at the smug grin plastered on her mother’s face. Thor raised both hands in an attempt to calm the gaggle of middle-aged woman, to no avail. Cassie was pushed outside the group, leaving her open to notice the odd look Spencer was giving Thor.
“What’s up, squirt?” Cassie nudged him when she made it to his side.
“Huh,” Spencer squeaked, jolting at the sudden presence. “Oh, nothing.” Spencer shuffled his feet before shaking his head and meeting his sister’s gaze. “Looks like you might have some competition.”
“Don’t,” Cassie snapped, crossing her arms over her stomach. She glared at the backs of her mother’s friend’s heads as they chattered at Thor; the sickening twist of jealousy rolled around her stomach as she watched Mrs. Armstrong run her cat-like nails over his arm. Thor snapped his head towards the feeling, flinching at the touch, which gave Cassie a slight boost.
“Relax,” Spencer scoffed, drawing her attention again. “He’s got it bad for you.”
“What?” Cassie gaped at her brother, blinking lamely at the side of his head as he continued to watch Thor across the room.
“I mean, come on,” Spencer laughed. “He looks at you with this weird, awestruck look” -Spencer turned towards her, his eyebrows pulling together- “like…what?”
“He…he looks at me l-like that,” Cassie stuttered, continuing to stare at her little brother.
“Are you blind?” Spencer raised a brow at her, his lips twitching up in a knowing smile. “You caught a good one, sis.” He nudged her shoulder, smirking up at her. “Or an idiot. I haven’t decided yet.” A few people, including Thor, turned to look at them when her startled laugh echoed through the room; Cassie caught the Asgardian’s eye, blushing when he winked at her.
Tumblr media
Somehow the couple got roped into dinner with Cassie’s family again and, of course, all of Noelle’s friends that Cassie would’ve loved to avoid like the plague. She stayed quiet for the most part, mainly listening to the conversation between Thor, her father, and his few friends to avoid whatever gossip was being shared across the table from her. Cassie caught a few hushed comments from her mother’s friends, adding to the already lively rage burning in her chest. Cassie pushed her food around when the foul taste in her mouth curbed her appetite; Thor’s hand snaked across the table as he continued to talk to Martin. His warm fingers curled around the back of Cassie’s hand, squeezing forcefully once; Thor glanced over at her, smiling sweetly, sending her stomach to war between the surge of adoration and ever-present anger. Cassie held onto Thor’s hand as if her life depended on it as she chatted with Spencer for the remainder of dinner. Thor was shaking hands and saying goodnight to Martin and his friends as Cassie made quick work of dismissing her mother and the other women when Spencer cut her off.
“Night Spence,” Cassie hummed, hugging her not so little brother that stood almost as tall as her. Spencer hung on, pulling Cassie closer to whisper against her hair.
“Have I met him before? He looks familiar.” Cassie forced her muscles to stay relaxed, but she could do nothing about her heart rate going from 0 to 60.
“Oh, uh, no,” Cassie hummed. “Not that I know of.”
Spencer pulled out of the hug, shrugging once, “Who knows then,” is all he offered before wandering off. Cassie nearly choked on her next inhale as her heart rate slowed again; she needed to get Thor and get the hell away from her family.
Tumblr media
The second the door to their room was closed, Cassie collapsed against it; the lingering fear and the persistent irritation from dinner was still hanging around her shoulders. Thor took a few steps before he heard the thud of her shoulders hitting the door and stopped, turning back to her with a concerned expression.
“What’s wrong, darling?” Thor asked, tentatively shuffling closer. The pet name broke through some of the aggression from dinner, making her feel lighter than before. Thor hesitantly reached for her, tugging on her free hand; she let herself be lead across the room and gently pushed onto the couch. “Talk to me.” Thor perched on the edge of the cushion; his now darker, cobalt eyes searched her face as his mouth tightened into a frown.
“There’s a reason I stay away from my family most of the year,” Cassie whispered, staring at her hands. “I’m convinced my mother’s a demon sent to torment me.” Cassie expected him to come back with some half-assed reply, but when she chanced a side-ways look, Thor was sitting patiently, waiting with an open expression. “I don’t usually talk about this,” she laughed wryly. Thor continued to stay quiet and only reached over to thread his fingers with hers.
Cassie opened her mouth, and it seemed like everything spilled out all at once. She outlined every horrible thing her mother said to her about her appearance, her job, her home, everything. Tears streamed down her face, haphazardly plopping onto the skirt of her dress, but Thor just listened, never interrupting. Once there was nothing else to say, Cassie fell quiet, staring at the floor in front of the couch as her tears dried.
“I’m sure you can’t wait to get the hell away from her,” Cassie laughed bitterly.
“I can’t disagree with that, but” -Thor gently cradled Cassie’s face, forcing her to meet his eyes- “I’m taking you with me.” Time seems to slow, the pair sitting in stasis for what could’ve been seconds or hours, just staring. Cassie felt warmth originating from where Thor’s hands rested on her face, spreading across her skin, leaving behind a pleasant fuzziness. It started to dawn on her just how close their faces were when she registered the puffs of air passing over Thor’s parted lips. Kiss me. The words lodged in her throat, leaving her to silently beg for anything from the God pressed against her.
It happened so fast that Cassie froze, but before she could react, it was already over. Thor’s lips barely brushed hers before he pulled away again, resuming their staring contest, but fear swirled in his dark eyes this time. Moving with a purpose, Cassie lunged at him, forcing a startled yelp out of him, but Thor quickly recovered, sliding her across his lap. Cassie straddled his thighs and wrapped her arms around his shoulders without breaking the kiss. After the initial hurried meeting of their lips, the kiss slowed to something almost hesitant; hands shy as they roamed over clothed skin. Thor inhaled sharply when Cassie carded her fingers through his short locks, sending a jolt of heat across her skin.
Cassie felt the shift in the air as something seemed to come unraveled; Thor gripped the back of her neck and scooted himself farther up the couch. Cassie gasped at the first gentle press of his tongue against the seam of her lips, only to quickly match it with equal enthusiasm. The pair moved together, finding an easy rhythm as touches became more confident and headier. Thor shifted forward, moving to stand; he growled against Cassie’s mouth when she shifted in his lap, pausing to bask in the feeling before getting to his feet.
Clothing was thrown every which way, the pair desperate for the electrifying press of heated skin. Cassie bounced when her back hit the mattress, but before she could even giggle, Thor was on her again, his hips slotted between her legs, dragging his lips across her bare shoulder. They wasted no time; both were too desperate and too close to care about anything else.
The sounds of their shouts echoed through the hallways, waking a few guests in the process.

Thor Odinson x OFC (Cassie Erikson)

Warnings: swearing
A/N: So I like to use real places if possible because why not lol, so Stumptown is a real coffee shop in New York, near where the Sanctum would be (protected by Dr. Strange). Anyway, enjoy and I’m a hoe for validation 🤷‍♀️😂 so I’d love to hear thoughts on the story so far.
Tumblr media
Chapter 1
New York was already bustling with people at 8 am. Waves of people moved along the streets in an attempt to make it to work on time, putting their needs before any other New Yorker’s. The sun warmed their faces, despite the winter chill in the air, as the brothers set a leisurely pace, ignoring the sharp insults barked at them.
“Is this really necessary?” Loki huffed, glaring over at his brother.
“For me? No,” Thor laughed, shouldering Loki. “People are still scared of you, brother, so if you want to get some fresh air, deal with the nanomask.” Loki rolled his eyes, sighing heavily as another preoccupied New Yorker bumped into the God of Mischief.
“Watch it!” she snapped, hurrying away.
“Why are we out again?” Loki glanced up at his brother’s unfamiliar face, raising an eyebrow.
“There’s a coffee shop I wanted to go to before seeing Strange,” Thor provided, weaving his way through the hordes of people. “Come on; it’s only a bit farther.” Loki sucked in a deep breath and followed his brother through the crowd.
Tumblr media
Cassie strolled down the street, sifting through her emails, wrapping her coat tighter around herself to fight off the wind. She was a little early to meet her coworker for their drive into work, so she took her time, enjoying the busy New York morning. The giant windows of Stumptown came into view, and Cassie pushed her way through the crowd, stumbling into the coffee shop. The line moved quickly, and within five minutes, her name was called; she offered a warm smile to the barista, turning away from the counter. Cassie pulled her eyes from her coffee cup a second too late; she ran into something solid, her coffee exploding all over the man in front of her.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” she gasped, covering her mouth, chancing a look up at the man’s face. The morning sun shining through the windows of the coffee shop made his short golden hair shimmer, but Cassie was more taken back by how gigantic he was. The man towered over her, and when her eyes finally traveled up from the coffee stain on his shirt, bright blue eyes looked back. “Fuck, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s quite alright,” he laughed, lifting his shirt away from his stomach. His voice was deep yet warm and inviting, with a hint of an accent Cassie couldn’t place.
“Is there some way I can make it up to you?” Cassie pleaded, passing him her handful of napkins.
“We can never go anywhere without you making a mess, brother.” The blonde chuckled and shouldered his brother, taking the coffee from him before turning his gaze back to Cassie. Cassie’s eye shifted to her left, landing on another man with dark black hair and sparkling green eyes, giggling over the lip of his coffee cup.
“We are on a time limit this morning, but how about you meet me here tomorrow, same time, and buy me a coffee.” He raised a brow, a slight smile pulling at his lips as he took a sip of his coffee.
“Uh, yeah, yeah, I can do that,” Cassie stuttered, jerking her head forward in a nod.
“Wonderful,” he hummed, smiling brightly. The brothers shuffled out of the coffee shop into the New York morning, leaving Cassie standing stunned with her empty cup. She couldn’t believe she’d agreed to meet him again. Cassie never did things like that, and she had a boyfriend, for Christ’s sake. She blinked a few times, getting back in line for another cup of coffee before her coworker arrived, still staring at the door her mystery man left through.
Tumblr media
Malinda plopped down at Cassie’s lab bench, bouncing in place while she waited to be acknowledged.
“Mal, you’re hovering,” Cassie sighed, flipping her case file closed.
“Well, you said you’d tell me what had you so flustered this morning, and I’m still waiting,” Malinda huffed, crossing her arms.
“It’s nothing really,” Cassie started, scrubbing at her face. “I spilled my coffee all over some guys this morning.”
“Aaaand?” Malinda drawled, resting her elbow on the table to hold her head up.
“I offered to make it up to him,” Cassie mumbled with a shrug. “So he told me to meet him there tomorrow morning.”
“Cassie,” Malinda squealed, playfully slapping her arm. “You’re spoken for.”
“Don’t remind me,” she groaned, dropping her head in her hands. “I don’t know why I agreed.”
“Well, you haven’t been with what’s his name that long,” Malinda pondered, rubbing a thumb across her chin.
“Troy,” Cassie sighed, rolling her eyes. “He’s meeting my parents this weekend. I think that makes us kinda serious.”
“Debatable,” Malinda giggled, jumping off her stool. She left Cassie sitting at her lab bench, staring down at the FBI case file that needed filling in before she clocked out. Cassie sighed, flipping the file open again, and ignored the guilty feeling hanging around her.
Tumblr media
Troy- This isn’t working for me. I’m sorry, Cassie.
Cassie stared at the text from Troy, trying to formulate a decent reply, but she came up empty; she tossed her phone onto her couch with a frustrated shout. She wasn’t that upset about him breaking up with her, but the thought of telling her mother bothered her.
“Fuck me,” she groaned, dropping onto the couch with a huff.
Tumblr media
The city seemed to hone in on Cassie’s unpleasant mood; gray clouds swirled in the sky, blanketing the city in darkness despite how early it was. Thursday mornings were just as busy as any other day of the week, which never really bothered Cassie, but today was different. Today, she had to listen to her mother chastise her for ‘losing another man’. Cassie sighed, running her hand through her chestnut brown hair; she was so caught up in her thoughts, she walked right past the man she was supposed to be meeting.
“Hey!” Cassie turned on her heels, searching for the familiar voice; she couldn’t help the smile that spread across her lips when she spotted him. His short hair was tousled perfectly, but his eyes seemed to match the gray of the clouds; he smiled as he got closer, sending an explosion of butterflies off in Cassie’s stomach.
“Hey, sorry, I didn’t see you standing there,” Cassie chuckled, starting for the door of Stumptown.
“No problem,” he hummed. “Shall we?” He extended a muscular arm out, opening the door and gesturing her through; Cassie could feel her cheeks heating up and ducked her head.
“I’ll find a table,” Cassie offered, handing him a 20-dollar bill. “I’d like an iced latte, please.”
“Coming right up,” he chuckled, stepping into line. Cassie spotted a table for two near the door and hurried towards it, settling into the chair and pulling her phone out.
Malinda- Good luck on your not coffee date 😈.
Cassie rolled her eyes, quickly replying to Malinda’s text, then slid her phone into the small purse hanging across her chest before her mystery date came back. She leaned back in her chair, watching people hurry through the slush; she jumped when her coffee was set on the table in front of her.
“Thank you,” she hummed, taking a sip.
“I should be thanking you,” he snorted. “You paid.” Mirth danced in his sparkling blue eyes as he smirked over the lip of his cup.
           “Touché,” she laughed.
“Is something wrong?” The blonde tilted his head, eyeing her closely; Cassie leaned away, taken back that he picked up on the sour mood she thought she was hiding well.
“I, uh,” she started. “It’s nothing, really.”
“No judgment here,” he assured, watching her squirm.
“I’m supposed to be leaving for a ski trip this afternoon. My parents were going to meet the guy I’ve been dating, but he, uh, dumped me last night. So yeah,” Cassie sighed, sipping her coffee again to hide her embarrassment.
“I’m so sorry,” he murmured, leaning forward. “Maybe you should tell your parents what happened and stay back.”
“Nah, I’m not that upset about the breakup. We weren’t dating that long. I just don’t want to deal with my mother’s reaction,” Cassie grunted, staring through the small hole of her cup into the coffee.
“Why?” He tilted his head again, squinting at her, and Cassie’s lip twitched up in a small smile.
“My mother’s…judgy. She’s so concerned about me finding a husband because, god forbid, I’m self-sufficient.” Cassie squinted down at her coffee again, berating herself for letting that tumble out. Why am I telling him all this?? I don’t even know his name.
“Did they know this guy well?” he asked, moving the conversation away from Cassie’s mother. She was grateful that she didn’t have to go into more detail.
“They were supposed to meet him for the first time this weekend,” Cassie replied, glancing up at him. The blonde leaned back in his seat, crossing his giant arms, and his eyes moving to look over her head. He seemed to be lost in thought until his eyes snapped down to meet Cassie’s amber ones.
“Take me instead,” he offered casually. Cassie raised a brow at him before a laugh burst from her lips; she leaned onto the table, her laughter drawing other people’s attention. “What?”
“I don’t even know your name!” she laughed, shaking her head. “How am I supposed to trust a stranger to meet my family.” She looked up at him again, trying to calm herself down, when she noticed an odd look on his face.
“Hold on,” he grumbled. Cassie jumped when he suddenly stood, his large hand closing around her arm; she barely grabbed her coffee before he was tugging her towards the door.
“Hey! Let me go,” Cassie yelled, trying to pull her arm free. Her anxiety spiked when he turned into the alleyway next to Stumptown; he stopped abruptly, glancing over her head to make sure no one followed. “Let go! I’m calling the cops.”
“Wait one second,” he pleaded, finally releasing her arm. For some odd reason, she complied, crossing her arms and popping a hip out. He bit his lower lip to stifle a smile as he dropped his head, bringing a hand to his face; Cassie narrowed her eyes until she recognized the material shifting under his palm. Cassie blanched as the nanomask crumpled in his hand; he blinked a few times, lifting his face again.
“Oh holy shit,” she breathed. Cassie’s eyes flickered across his face, taking in every inch of the very familiar face looking back at her. “You’re…you’re….”
“Thor Odinson,” he supplied, smirking at her. “And your name?”
“C-Cassandra Erikson,” she stuttered, blinking up at him.
“It’s lovely to meet you, Cassandra,” he chuckled, lifting one of her hands to his lips.
“Uh, Cassie. That’s what everyone calls me,” she mumbled, keeping her eyes locked on his.
“Well, Cassie, would you consider my offer now?” Thor asked, gently lowering her hand.
“Why? Why do you even want to go?” Cassie blurted, her eyes widening as soon as she said it.
“I’m not quite sure,” Thor hummed, lifting his eyes towards the sky again. “Something about you…draws me in.” Cassie watched him for a moment, letting her eyes roam over the God’s attractive features. How am I supposed to say no to the God of Thunder? I mean, look at him.
“Okay,” she finally mumbled. Thor lit up, a beautiful smile spreading across his face; Cassie decided she made the right choice. Thor reigned in his excitement and met Cassie’s eyes again, momentarily admiring the beautiful golden color.
“Now, what’s the plan for the trip,” Thor pressed, leaning a shoulder against the bricks next to them.
“Uh, it’s a four-day ski trip to Lake Placid. I was planning on leaving around noon to make the 5 ½ hour drive,” Cassie answered meekly.
Thor laughed, shaking his head and holding out a hand towards her. “Let me see your phone.” Cassie narrowed her eyes at him but handed over her iPhone, watching him type something before handing it back. “Send me your address and be ready by 3,” Thor instructed.
“What, why?” Cassie looked down at her phone, seeing his contact information shining up at her.
“Trust me, darling,” Thor mumbled, winking at her. He leaned down, his lips brushing against her cheek before he slid past her towards the street. Cassie stood stunned, the spot where his lips were was still warm like she could still feel them, and butterflies beat against her stomach.
“What have I done?” Cassie mumbled to herself. I’m so screwed. Cassie quickly composed herself before hurrying out of the alleyway towards her brownstone.
Tumblr media
Cassie fumbled around her brownstone, collecting the last couple of things she needed, glancing at the clock on her stove every few minutes. Three rolled around, and right on time, a sleek, black car rolled to a stop in front of her home. Checking that all the lights were off and she had everything, Cassie finally pulled her suitcase onto the stoop, slamming the door behind her.
“Afternoon, Cassie,” a man called. Cassie yanked her key out of the lock and spun on her heels; a large man with salt and pepper hair stood at the bottom of her steps, smiling.
           “Um, hello,” Cassie greeted awkwardly.
“My name is Happy. Thor sent me to pick you up,” Happy replied, moving up the steps to take her suitcase.
“Oh! I-I didn’t know,” Cassie stuttered, hurrying after him. Happy glanced over his shoulder, laughing softly; he opened the back door, gesturing her in with a smile. Cassie slid into the car, her back rigid as she waited; she jumped when the trunk lid slammed shut but collected herself when Happy slid into the driver’s seat.
“All set?” Cassie met his eyes in the rearview mirror, giving him a soft smile and nodding. As they pulled away from the curb, Happy cleared his throat, glancing at her in the mirror again. “So, how did you meet Thor?”
“I dumped coffee all over him,” Cassie snorted, smiling.
“That’s beautiful,” Happy laughed. “What did he do to piss you off?”
“Oh nothing,” Cassie quickly assured. “I accidentally ran into him.”
“Damn, I was hoping to get some dirt on him,” Happy joked, smirking. Cassie laughed, relaxing into the leather seat; Happy glanced at her in the mirror again, mischief dancing in his eyes.
“Aw, come on. You’re telling me you have no dirt on the God of Thunder,” Cassie giggled, dropping her head to the side.
“No!” Happy laughed. “He’s always so kind; it’s infuriating.” Cassie snorted loudly, covering her mouth to muffle her laughter.
“I’ll report back with anything good,” Cassie assured him, a mischievous smile spreading across her face.
“Oh, I like you,” Happy chuckled.
Tumblr media
Cassie and Happy went back and forth for the entire almost two-hour drive, sharing their favorite movies and music. It was so natural, Cassie didn’t even realize they had arrived until Happy put the car in park and turned towards her.
           “Well, we’re here,” Happy sighed.
“Where is here?” Cassie mumbled, looking through the windshield.
“The Avenger’s Compound?” It sounded more like a question until Happy noticed the confused look on her face. “He didn’t even tell you where you were going?”
“Nope,” Cassie huffed. Happy shook his head as he opened his door; she could hear him talking to someone, but his voice was muffled until he opened the back door for her.
“…I can get it,” Happy grumbled.
“Nonsense,” Thor called from behind the car.
“He’s difficult,” Happy sighed, rolling his eyes. Cassie climbed out of the car, giggling when Happy glared at the giant blonde behind the vehicle.
“Hey” -Cassie nudged Happy- “let him put those muscles to good use.”
“You know what,” Happy laughed, knocking shoulders with her. “You’re right.”
“Hello, little one,” Thor greeted, smiling brightly at Cassie.
“Hi Thor,” Cassie mumbled, tilting her head to hide the blush creeping up her cheeks. “Thank you for the ride, Happy.”
Happy turned away from the car, looking slightly shocked, but he quickly smiled and nodded. “You’re welcome.”
“Come, there are a few people that would like to meet you.” Thor carried her luggage towards the compound's front door, jerking his head to urge Cassie along. She hurried to catch up, only to stop in her tracks just inside the door. It finally dawned on Cassie that she was standing in the Avenger’s home base; she looked around, admiring the beautiful, modern décor.
“I think you broke her, sparkles,” an unfamiliar voice called.
“Good job, brother,” someone else added. Thor chuckled next to her, turning towards the voices with a smile. Cassie followed Thor’s gaze, finding three figures moving into the lobby, and she recognized them almost immediately.
“Ah, there she is,” Tony Stark laughed, tossing a handful of M&Ms in his mouth.
           “Hello,” Cassie squeaked.
“It’s nice to meet you with my real face this time,” Loki grunted, his eyes raking over Cassie.
“We met already?” Cassie glanced up at Thor, raising a questioning brow at him.
“He was there when you spilled coffee on me,” Thor supplied, his mouth twitching up into a smile.
“You just gonna stand there, kid?” Tony snorted. Cassie looked towards Tony, noticing Peter Parker studying her; Cassie shuffled in place, feeling scrutinized, but Peter quickly smiled.
           “Hi Cassie,” Peter beamed, waving.
“I’d love to stand around, but” -Thor gently shouldered Cassie- “we have to get going.” Thor nudged Cassie forward again, hurrying her away from the nosey Avengers; he let out a sigh once they were out of earshot.
“You okay?” Cassie wondered, brushing against Thor.
“They wanted to ask a thousand questions,” Thor sighed, rolling his eyes. “Stark already ran a background check on you, but that wasn’t good enough.”
“Excuse me,” Cassie gasped. Thor turned his head, shrugging faintly, a gentle smile on his lips. “I guess I should’ve expected that.” Cassie tried to keep her eyes on the hallway in front of her, but Thor’s arm brushing against hers was hard to ignore. “Where are we going?” Cassie asked, giving herself an excuse to ogle him more.
“The hanger,” he answered simply. Before Cassie could ask any more questions, Thor reached out, pushing a door open; she gasped, blinking at the sun shining through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
“Fuck, even the hanger’s beautiful,” Cassie mumbled. Thor snorted loudly, glancing back at her on his way to the quinjet waiting for them. “So wait” -Cassie jogged after Thor- “we’re taking a jet?”
“Stark insisted,” Thor sighed, grabbing the black suitcase at the end of the quinjet’s ramp. “It will make the trip much shorter.”
“Yeah, it’ll barely take us half an hour,” Cassie scoffed. Thor trudged up the ramp, disappearing into the jet so he could slide the suitcases into the equipment hatch; Thor’s head poked out again, waving Cassie in. Thor wandered to the front, whispering to the piolets while Cassie took a seat along the side; she jumped when Thor dropped down next to her.
“We’ll make it there around 5:15,” Thor stated, leaning back in his seat. Cassie took a deep breath, turning in her seat to face him, finally taking the opportunity to absorb the situation. Thor leaned his head back against the seat, letting his eyes flutter closed, and Cassie jumped at the chance to rake her eyes over him. He had on worn jeans and a powder blue t-shirt, and his hair looked windblown and slightly darker in the low light of the jet. Cassie eyed the muscles in his arms as he reached up to scratch the back of his head; she could’ve sworn his arms were actually braided metal cords instead of bands of muscle.
“Ready for lift-off,” one of the piolets yelled, snapping Cassie out of her trance.
“Enjoying the view,” Thor snickered. Cassie’s eyes snapped up, meeting his bright blue orbs, but she quickly ducked her head, hiding the embarrassment of getting caught.
“Sorry,” she mumbled, twisting the edge of her hoodie.
“No need to apologize,” Thor chuckled. “Well, as long as I can appreciate your beauty as well.” Cassie’s blush deepened; her face was uncomfortably warm, but she still glanced up at Thor, clearing her throat.
“We should probably talk about what’s acceptable and what isn’t,” Cassie mumbled, shifting nervously in her seat.
“What do you mean?” Thor tilted his head, trying to catch her eyes, and she couldn’t help but think how adorable he looked.
“Well, we are supposed to be a couple,” Cassie started, attempting to steady her nerves.
“Oh, yes,” Thor chirped, sitting up straighter. “Whatever makes you comfortable, little one.” Cassie couldn’t help it when her stomach clenched in anticipation.
“Honestly,” Cassie sighed. “I’m fine with just doing what feels natural.” Thor shifted in his seat, smiling down at his hands that were resting in his lap.
“Sounds good to me,” Thor agreed, glancing over at Cassie. His stomach somersaulted as he watched her; her chestnut brown hair hung around her face complimenting the amber color of her eyes.
“The only problem is there’s only one bed in the room,” Cassie mumbled, picking at her fingernails. Without thinking, Thor reached out, gently engulfing one of her hands with his, drawing her attention.
“Whatever you’re comfortable with,” Thor repeated, squeezing her hand.
“We’ll see how we feel,” Cassie decided, squeezing his hand back. Thor smiled at her, relaxing into his seat; they held hands until the quinjet landed.

Chapter 2
Somehow, Tony pulled it off that the quinjet landed at Lake Placid Airport, meaning they were only ten minutes away from the lodge her parents decided on. Cassie slid into the front seat of their rental car while Thor loaded their suitcases into the trunk.
“What’s the name of the lodge?” Thor asked as he dropped into the driver’s seat, pulling his jacket closed.
“Whiteface Lodge,” Cassie mumbled, clicking around on her phone. Here.” Thor squinted at the map on her phone, studying the simple route before nodding.
“Right down the road,” Thor mumbled, starting the car. A few minutes into the drive, a laugh bursts from Cassie’s lips. Thor raised an eyebrow at her, glancing between the road and the passenger’s seat.
“Sorry, I guess I’m a little surprised you can drive,” Cassie snickered, covering her mouth.
“Thank Stark,” Thor chuckled. “He insisted because, as he put it, just because I may be an alien doesn’t mean I shouldn’t know how to drive.” Thor bit his bottom lip, trying to hold back a smile as he listened to Cassie laugh next to him; her laugh reminded him of his mother, and he liked her a little more.
“He had a point,” Cassie choked out around giggles. Thor shook his head, focusing on looking for the lodge’s sign. Cassie finally settled down, typing out a message to Malinda because she hadn’t had the chance to tell her the change of plans.
“Wow,” Thor breathed. Cassie’s head shot up, realizing they were driving down the road that led to the lodge. The blanket of snow glistened under the afternoon sun, making the resort look even more beautiful.
“It’s beautiful here,” Cassie whispered, her eyes flickering around the grounds. Thor pulled the car to a stop under the awning and Cassie climbed out, smiling at the valet attendant.
“Welcome, what’s the last name?” the man asked with a smile.
“Erikson,” Cassie offered, waving Thor over.
“I just need the keys,” the man said, holding out a hand. Thor narrowed his eyes before turned to look at Cassie.
“It’s okay,” she giggled, plucking the keys from Thor’s fingers and dropping them into the valet worker’s hand.
“Enjoy your stay,” the man beamed. Since his hands were full of luggage, Cassie wrapped a hand around Thor’s arm and steered him into the lobby.
“You’ve never heard of a valet, huh?”
“No,” Thor replied, glancing over his shoulder again.
“I’m sorry, my mother insists on certain things,” Cassie sighed, pulling Thor towards the front desk.
“Good afternoon!” the cheery redhead behind the desk greeted. “Welcome to Whiteface Lodge. Can I have the last name on the reservation?”
“Erikson,” Cassie offered, fishing her wallet out of her purse. The woman held her hand out as her eyes ran over the computer screen; Cassie handed over her driver’s license, glancing back at Thor. He was gawking at the beautiful lobby, his eyes following the beams of the ceiling; Cassie smiled, turning back to the woman behind the desk.
“It looks like we have you two in one of the junior suites,” the redhead stated, handing Cassie her driver’s license back. “One of our bellhops will gladly show you to your room.” The woman handed over the keycards along with a map and pamphlet about activities.
“Thank you,” Cassie beamed, shoving the papers into her purse.
“Enjoy your stay, and please let us know if there’s anything we can do to make it better,” she gushed, smiling brightly at the couple.
Tumblr media
When the bellhop finally brought them to their room, Thor and Cassie thanked him before pushing the door open. They both froze, staring slack-jawed at the homey room; Cassie wandered in, glancing into the bathroom to her left, but the giant windows across the room drew her attention.
“It’s…amazing,” Cassie breathed, running her fingers along the fur blanket draped along the end of the bed. Thor set their suitcases beside the couch across from the kitchenette, joining Cassie at the windows overlooking the forest.
“The view is breathtaking,” Thor mumbled. Evergreen trees stretched as far as the couple could see, the snow covering them twinkled in the afternoon sun. Thor had stepped up next to Cassie, and suddenly she couldn’t care less about the view in front of her; Thor’s chest was pressed against her shoulder, his warmth seeping into her skin, relaxing her. Cassie sighed, glancing up at Thor, admiring the sharp angle of his jaw before digging around in her purse that still hung off her body.
“I should call my parents,” Cassie grumbled, taking a step away from Thor.
“Yes, of course,” Thor responded, jolting faintly. He moved away from Cassie, plopping down on the couch and pulling out his phone too; Cassie swallowed down the unpleasant sound, missing Thor’s warmth already. She clicked on her mother’s contact and brought the phone to her ear, subtly gazing at Thor stretched out on the couch; her mother’s voice jolted her back to reality.
Cassandra, I assume you arrived at the lodge, her mother, Noelle, said with a greeting.
“Yes, mother, we made it,” Cassie huffed, rolling her eyes.
Excellent, her mother replied flatly. We’re less than an hour away. Be ready for dinner in roughly that long.
“We’ll be ready.” Cassie glanced over at Thor, noticing his raised brow but just rolled her eyes, causing Thor to snort softly.
Dress appropriately too. This is a nice place, Noelle chided.
“Yes, mother,” Cassie sighed, massaging between her eyes. “See you soon.” Cassie hung up the phone before her mother could respond.
“What must we be ready for?” Thor asked, pushing off the couch. Cassie still had her head bowed, her fingers kneading the bridge of her nose; she nearly jumped out of her skin when Thor’s large hand settled between her shoulder blades.
“Dinner with my family,” Cassie groaned, dropping her hand to look up at Thor. His face was relaxed as he gazed down at her, his icy blue eyes tracing the lines of her face, and Cassie’s heart jumped when his eyes lingered on her lips.
“How long do we have?” Thor asked, his eyes flickering back to hers.
“Less than an hour,” Cassie grumbled, her brow furrowing.
“We should probably get ready,” Thor laughed. His fingers trailed down her arm as he turned away, leaving a warmth in their wake that made Cassie shiver. Thor heaved her suitcase onto the bed before returning to his; Cassie threw the suitcase open, rifling through her clothes when she heard Thor chuckled.
“What’s so funny?” Cassie glanced over her shoulder, raising an eyebrow and smirking at the God across the room.
“I never thought I’d be happy that I let Stark pack for me,” Thor snorted, staring down at his belongings. “I wouldn’t have thought to pack some of the things he put in here.” Thor pulled out a plain white button-down, black slacks, and a pair of leather dress shoes; Cassie giggled before turning back to her things. She decided on the purple ombre maxi dress she packed, laying it over her arm and grabbing her makeup bag.
“I’m gonna get ready in the bathroom,” Cassie called over her shoulder as she hurried past Thor.
Tumblr media
Thor wandered around the room while he waited, even venturing onto the small patio through the doors across from the bed; the cold air brushed against his skin, carrying the crisp smell of pine with it. After almost 45 minutes, Thor wandered back inside, noticing Cassie still wasn’t done and decided to change because he really didn’t need the bathroom other than for privacy, which he had at the moment. He quickly stripped to his boxer briefs, fumbling around for an undershirt and his pants; he left his pants undone as he slid a sleek black belt on, leaving that hanging open as well. Thor shrugged on the button-down, making easy work of the tiny buttons; he left the top two open and quickly started tucking the shirt into his pants, the way Steve had shown him. The bathroom door creaked open just as Thor finished tightening his belt and had started working on buttoning the cuffs of his shirt.
“Sorry I took so long,” Cassie called, tugging her dress down some. She padded into the small living area and finally looked up at Thor, nearly swallowing her tongue. Thor was focused on buttoning his sleeves but still looked up, his vibrant blue eyes half-shielded by his lashes. Thor stopped immediately, blinking a few times as he lifted his head more, his eyes traveling over Cassie, reminding her of a hungry animal.
“You look exquisite, darling,” Thor breathed, a small, awed smile tugging at his lips.
“Oh please,” Cassie giggled nervously, her cheeks warming under the compliment. “I look bland standing next to you.” Thor moved closer, one thick finger brushing under her chin, forcing her eyes up to meet his.
“You’re beautiful,” Thor whispered. Cassie just stared up at him, unable to wrap her mind around why he was even here; she was overwhelmed with feeling unworthy, but she knew he’d keep arguing, so she did what she did best.
“Well, I guess something had to catch your attention,” Cassie chuckled wryly. Instead of rolling his eyes or shaking his head, like Cassie expected, Thor leaned just a little closer, his breath puffing against her lips.
“The freezing cold coffee caught my attention,” Thor mumbled, his eyes holding her in place. “Your enticing beauty kept it.” Cassie’s mouth was suddenly dry as she tried to swallow, and she had to hold back a whimper when he inched closer; Cassie’s phone pinged loudly, jolting them apart.
Mother- Here. Already seated near the back.
Cassie glared at the message from her mother but collected herself, turning back to the God, who had moved across the room and was fidgeting with his phone near the door.
“Ready?” Cassie called, sliding on her heels.
“Shall we?” Thor offered his arm, smiling sweetly from the open door; Cassie handed him the room key to slip into his pocket before lacing her arm with his.
Tumblr media
Despite the nine-inch height difference, Thor dropped his head, hiding his rumbling laughter in Cassie’s hair, and her heart stuttered, knowing the stupid joke she told caused that. The couple wandered into the dining hall, and the buzz of people talking covered their laughter; Cassie searched the room, spotting her mother’s platinum blonde hair first.
“I’m sorry in advanced,” Cassie sighed, tightening her grip on Thor’s arm.
“I’ve dealt with angry frost giants; I think I can handle your mother,” Thor whispered. Cassie covered her mouth when she snorted loudly, earning a chuckled from the blonde next to her.
“Cassie!” Spencer, her baby brother, shouted, waving frantically.
“Spencer,” Noelle scolded before turning towards her daughter. “Cassandra, wonderful for you to finally show up.”
“Hello, mother,” Cassie sneered. Spencer’s excitement caught her attention, and a smile spread across her face. “Hi, Spence.”
“I was wondering when you were going to get here,” Spencer chuckled, rolling his eyes at the back of their mother’s head. Cassie pulled her lips into her mouth to hide the smile from her mother’s burning gaze.
“This must be the man we’ve been waiting to meet,” Noelle probed, raising an eyebrow at Thor.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, ma’am.” Thor’s voice rumbled through the noisy room, sending her mother’s eyes bugging out slightly; Thor’s smile widened at her reaction, but he quickly turned towards Spencer.
“There’s my little girl!” another voice bellowed. Cassie turned in time for her father to sweep her up in a crushing hug.
“Hi Daddy,” Cassie hummed, burrowing her face in his shoulder. Martin set Cassie down, smiling at her as he squeezed her shoulders.
“Let’s meet this…Woah,” Martin started, his eyes widening when his eyes landed on Thor.
“Thank you, I think,” Thor laughed, offering his hand to Martin.
“You’re a mountain on legs,” Martin chuckled, firmly shaking Thor’s hand.
“Jesus, Dad,” Cassie snorted, shouldering him.
“Can we sit,” Noelle cut in, glaring at her daughter and husband.
“Yes, dear,” Martin huffed, smacking the back of Thor’s hand before letting go. Thor took the seat closest to Martin, leaving Cassie to drop into the chair next to Noelle; Spencer smiled at his sister across the table before lowering his head again.
“I thought I told you to dress appropriately,” Noelle scolded softly, tightly grabbing Cassie’s wrist.
“Don’t start,” Cassie growled, yanking her hand away.
“So, do we get the pleasure of knowing your name?” Martin raised a brow over his menu, his eyes flickering back and forth between Cassie and Thor.
“Theo,” Thor offered with a smile, knocking his knee against Cassie’s. Martin smiled and nodded, flickering his eyes across the table to his wife before scanning his menu again. The conversation shifted to questions about their trip and their room while they waited for drinks to arrive. Once the waitress returned with drinks and took everyone’s orders, Cassie settled into her chair, her knee bouncing nervously under the table. She must have knocked into Thor’s leg because he gently wrapped his hand around Cassie’s that was resting on the table, giving it a comforting squeeze.
“So, Theo, what do you do for a living?” Martin asked, leaning onto the table.
“I’m similar to a first responder for New York City,” Thor replied immediately. Cassie nearly choked on the wine she was taking a sip of; they hadn’t discussed this part yet, but apparently, her family didn’t recognize the Avenger at their table. How the hell do they not recognize him??
“Oh wow,” Martin huffed in surprise. “What kind? Fire, police, medical?”
“Technically none of those,” Thor laughed. “I’m part of a special department that handles larger-scale incidents.” Cassie brought the glass to her lips again, desperately trying to hide her laughter; Spencer seemed to notice her odd behavior but didn’t comment on it.
“You sound pretty important,” Martin laughed, nodding to himself. The family’s conversation moved along to Cassie’s job and her mother backhandedly insulting her position, like usual. Cassie barely noticed the affection between her and Thor as they talked; Thor would squeeze her hand or rub her back absentmindedly, and Cassie even dropped her head onto his shoulder when she was asking Spencer about school. It felt natural and damn good. The conversation continued as they ate, Cassie mostly ignoring her mother’s snooty comments here and there, and focusing on the easy, surprisingly animated conversation between her dad and Thor.
“So you have a younger brother as well,” Martin pressed, wiping his mouth.
“I do,” Thor replied, smiling fondly. “He’s a bit of a troublemaker, but he’s a good man. He does the same kind of work I do.”
“Your parents must be proud,” Martin commented, smiling warmly.
“I would hope so,” Thor mumbled, looking down at his plate.
“Hope?” Noelle cut in, raising a perfectly plucked brow.
“Uh, we don’t really know how they feel,” Thor replied, pushing the last few bits of food around his plate.
“Mm, so maybe they aren’t,” Noelle sneered, shrugging one shoulder.
“Maybe not, but it’s hard to get an answer from beyond the grave,” Thor shot back, lifting his head to give Noelle a hard look. Cassie’s heart sank at the confession, her hands instantly reaching for his; Noelle tensed in her seat but kept her eyes averted.
“I’m so sorry, son,” Martin whispered, resting a hand on Thor’s shoulder. “I’m sure they’re proud of the man you became.”
“Thank you,” Thor replied with a tight smile. The table fell silent, no one having a good way to come back from that conversation.
“I think I’m ready to turn in for the night,” Martin yawned, stretching his arms over his head. “Cass, dinner is already billed to our room, so no need to rush.” Martin pushed away from the table with a groan, smiling down at his daughter.
“Thanks, Dad,” Cassie mumbled, giving him a half-smile.
“Don’t be late for breakfast,” Noelle sighed, pushing away from the table.
“It was wonderful to meet you all,” Thor beamed.
“Night Cassie, Night Theo,” Spencer whispered, hugging his sister’s shoulders. Cassie watched her family weave through the busy dining room, slumping in her chair when they were out of sight.
“I’m so fucking sorry,” Cassie rushed out, closing her eyes.
“It’s okay,” Thor mumbled, reaching for her hand. “I should’ve taken your warning, though. Your mother is...” Thor trailed off.
“Shitty,” Cassie supplied, earning a soft laugh from Thor.
“Your words, not mine,” Thor chuckled. Cassie finally turned her head to look at him, noting the hint of sadness in his slightly dulled cerulean eyes.
“I can’t believe she did that,” Cassie growled, shaking her head.
“Please don’t feel bad. I’ve mostly accepted their deaths.” Thor’s mouth twitched on one side, his free hand brushing a strand of hair behind Cassie’s ear. “Would you like to sit at the bar? It’s still quite early.”
           “Sure,” Cassie breathed.
Tumblr media
The pair settled at the bar and decided to play 20 questions; Cassie giggled at the idea, but hey, they hadn’t really had a true first date.
“What’s your favorite food?” Cassie asked over the lip of her wine glass.
“Probably sweets,” Thor snorted. “Fruit was the closest thing we had to candy on Asgard.”
           “That’s depressing,” Cassie chuckled.
“Why do you think it’s my favorite now?” Thor smiled against his glass as he drank the rest of his whiskey. “What do you do for a living?”
“I’m an organic material analyst for the FBI,” Cassie answered, waving down the bartender.
“Banner would like you,” Thor chuckled, handing his glass back to the bartender.
“I keep forgetting you’re an Avenger,” Cassie whispered, glancing at the busy bartender.
“Surprisingly, I’m enjoying not being one at the moment,” Thor replied honestly.
“Well, we won’t linger on that then. What did you do on Asgard as a kid?” Cassie swirled the white wine in her glass, watching Thor roll the sleeves of his shirt up.
“When I was very little, Loki and I played with the other children a lot, but more things were expected of us as we got older. We needed to be warriors ready for battle,” Thor sighed, nodding to the man behind the bar. “I pitied Loki when I realized he also had to learn magic, but I knew he enjoyed it more.”
“So you’ve been training most of your life?”
“Yes,” Thor hummed, swirling the amber liquid. “1500 years old” -Thor glanced up and smirked- “and yet, I still have things to learn.”
“Jesus, I forgot that you’re an old man,” Cassie laughed, chewing on her bottom lip.
“Usually, Captain Rogers and Sergeant Barnes get called old. This is new for me,” Thor laughed, knocking his knee against Cassie’s.
“I know I just said we wouldn’t talk about the Avengers,” Cassie started, giggling at Thor’s playful sigh. “But I am curious. What’s it like being around so many powerful people with varying personalities?” Thor blinked at her a few times, a smile slowly spreading across his face.
“I was expecting you to ask what they’re all like,” Thor confessed. “I like this question better.” Thor smiled again, wider than before, his hand sneaking up to rest on Cassie’s knee. “It’s not as difficult as you’d think. We’re all very different, but we all understand that we’re on the same side; we want to get along and communicate. It does help that it’s not forced, and I genuinely enjoy their company.”
“Oh, so you’re telling me Tony Stark doesn’t drive you all nuts,” Cassie laughed.
“Hold on; I never said that,” Thor laughed. “Now it’s my turn; you got two questions.” They went back and forth for a few hours, sharing stories and interests before they noticed the dining room was starting to empty.
“We should probably head back to the room,” Cassie offered, feeling a little sad about it. Thor nodded, sliding off his stool, reaching out to steady Cassie; he watched her fix her dress and gather her things, and his heart ached. He wasn’t expecting this pull that he felt in the coffee shop to mean much, but the more time he spent with her, the more he found himself gravitating towards her. She was bright, snarky, kind, and breathtakingly beautiful, and Thor couldn’t help but want her close. The walk back to their room was quiet; Cassie yawned a few times, bumping into Thor’s side when her eyes closed.
“You look exhausted,” Thor mumbled, glancing down at her.
“Long day,” she giggled, a sleepy smile on her face. Thor slid the room key out of his pocket as they approached their door, quickly opening it and gesturing Cassie in. The pair went their separate ways, digging through their still open suitcases for something to sleep in; Cassie slipped into the bathroom to change while Thor sifted through his clothes. He pulled out a plain white t-shirt along with thin blue pajama pants; he glanced at the door, hearing the sink, and decided to change quickly. Cassie appeared in the doorway as Thor shimmied his pants on; Cassie had thrown her hair up, wiped off her makeup, and threw on a giant Led Zeppelin shirt and shorts. Thor swallowed around the sudden lump in his throat, fidgeting with his shirt, trying to avoid staring at the woman in front of him.
“I, uh, can sleep on the couch,” Thor offered, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Come on,” Cassie scoffed. “You’re way too tall to sleep there. I don’t mind if you sleep in bed. It’s big enough for both of us.”
“Are you sure?” Thor glanced between the bed and Cassie, raising a brow at her; he tried to read her expression, but he couldn't decipher the mixture of emotions.
“Positive,” Cassie yawned, flicking off the lights. She strolled across the room, climbing onto the bed, and scooted towards the windows; Thor hesitantly moved closer, watching her face for any signs of discomfort. Cassie rolled her eyes, climbing under the sheets before throwing the opposite corner open, inviting Thor in. He gingerly climbed into bed, shifting around until he was comfortable but making sure Cassie had enough room as well. Cassie rolled off her back, curling up on her side to find Thor in a similar position; they laid facing each other in silence for a few minutes until Cassie couldn’t keep her eyes open any longer.
           “Goodnight, little one,” Thor mumbled.
           “Night, Thor,” Cassie whispered.
