Happy with the staff content this year but am I the only one who is disappointed with the PV we got? It's basically a slideshow of art we've already seen, major downgrade from the year 1 PV that had literally all the events. There was a drop in quality of the anniversary PVs over the years and it really shows this year. Sorry if you find this too negative I don't mean to hate I just wish Twst would do better for it's ANNIVERSARY.
[For everyone's reference, here are the anniversary PVs in order of release: 2021 / 2022 / 2023 / 2024]
Tumblr media
Mmm, now that you mention it, I noticed this trend with the Halloween PVs 🤔 For year 1, there was a video that showed all members of the NRC casy, even those that did not receive cards at that time. There were then several short variants of the PV released for year 2/Endless Halloween Night (part 1 / part 2 / part 3 / part 4). Altogether, they feature all of the characters, including the students from year 1 but heavily shadowed and with glowing eyes to indicate ghostly possession. Even Glorious Masquerade features all of the students that get new cards for the event plus Rollo, although there are notably more still shots here. The Stage in Playful Land CM, by comparison, is significantly shorter and only shows us the three SSRs (Ace, Ortho, and Kalim) as well as the two new characters (Fellow and Gidel).
As this anon has said, the anniversary PVs have changed a lot over time too. The first one was the most animated and integrated several event outfits. The second one was also animated a fair amount, but you can tell corners were cut in some places where they transition to photographs/still images. This alone works thematically given that the player is a photographer, but you can still catch dips in quality when it comes to the art style. I remember finding Deuce running and the Kalim + Silver flying scene odd, as well as Jade and Trein's faces strange in general. Then the third PV rolls around and it only features the third years; the animation also seems to be much more sluggish (although this could be a stylistic choice; not sure). A friend actually recently pointed out to me that Lilia's pose looks like he was pulled straight from other assets; his artwork in the animation is almost the exact same as his smiling expression in the game. This year's is the most different (+ most static) and, like year 3's PV, only provides "new" content for a select few characters (the dorm leaders). They also reuse pre-existing illustrations already found in the game that don't seem to be picked for any particular reason (like, there are random Master Chef/Culinary Crucibles groovies in there). This direction, I'm guessing, is less costly and more efficient than making an entirely original animation, which is what was done in previous years. (Not that Disney or Aniplex is hurting for money to fund this, lol) Would I have preferred another PV in the style of year 1's? Yeah, for sure. I want to see other events and their outfits animated! Was what we got this year bad? Not necessarily; I think the production and editing was very technically impressive, but I'm still sad we didn't get anything substantially "new" to chew on (as someone who isn't a fan of most third years or the dorm leaders). Maybe it's just something we perceive as a deficit only because year 1 set the bar so high. It is what it is; whoever was in charge of the anniversary PV was probably doing the best they could with whatever budget they were given 😔 Let's hope that next year's will be a return to form, or that at least the money/effort is being redirected to other bigger projects (maybe the anime?).

Can a Wittebane special ever air on Disney Channel? I wonder how they will tackle the religious themes and murder of Caleb while keeping it Child friendly.
HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Oh, wait, you actually think it'd focus on Philip?
Sorry for the mocking statements but that is the long and short of it. To keep it child friendly, for what is most compelling, and for what would be most in line with TOH, the way a Wittebane special would go is actually pretty easy to map out, at least with the moments that we know about:
You start with a teenage boy looking gaunt and exhausted as he prepares for a day in the woods to forage for things that he can get and wood to chop. He needs to make money for him and his little brother, Philip, after all. He hasn't really gotten to eat much more than scraps for the past couple days but hey, that's okay. Philip gets to eat and that's all the nourishment Caleb needs. He wants his little brother to have a proper childhood and he'll give up anything for that.
While out in the woods that day though, he catches a smell. An absolutely divine smell. He follows it to its source and finds a woman in a cloak feeding the animals of the area. The bread she has smells like heaven but how she speaks to the animals reeks of the devil. His stomach gives him away though and she turns with a wry grin. She isn't afraid of him but intrigued because he didn't immediately attack, something she calls out when he won't eat her bread because of his suspicions. They strike a deal that Evelyn will tell him a truth in return for the bread. That way he knows his soul isn't the price of it. "Are you a witch?" "Yes." And that moment of pure honesty makes Caleb pause. Then he runs. He runs fast and hard, racing back to town to be sure that he can tell everyone and potentially get his brother away. To keep him safe from that which threatens them all. However, he is stopped by the fact that his little brother is sobbing and soaked. One of the other kids tricked him into the river and said they shouldn't have bother to be washed up onto the shore. They should have just drowned in the ocean because if God wanted them, they would still have... have... Caleb holds him tight before looking at the sole remaining photo he has of all four of them. The next day he is in mass, his leg shaking as he listens to the fire and brimstone the preacher speaks of. He can't focus on the words though. Not as he looks at how the kids that hurt Philip are at the front of the pews while they sit in the back because no one wants them near them. There's anger and hate in this room and it gnaws at his gut just as badly as his hunger does.
And so now we get some time of Philip and Evelyn bonding, romancing and we see the seasons pass in a sweet, effective montage to speedrun their romance, especially if this is just a 44 minute special or the like, let alone if it's 22. This montage could easily also show how the two growing older and contrast Caleb's joys of embracing the other with Philip's growing anger as he spends time in town and is indoctrinated, all without having to say what he is being indoctrinated for besides imagery of burning fires.
Then finally, we have Evelyn asking when Caleb plans to tell his brother. Caleb doesn't know. At first it was to make sure Evelyn was actually safe. Then never finding the right time because of fear of someone in town hearing. Now... Now Philip is so converted to witch hunting that he doesn't know what to do. They're even considering making his little brother witch hunter general because of just how committed he is. Caleb feels defeated and tired and all he really feels like he has left is Evelyn.
"Well... Maybe it's time to find your own path then. Your brother will be fine at your home and... And maybe you'll be fine at mine. With the rest of the witches."
It then cuts to Philip, furious, slamming open the door to the house. He has a ritual dagger in his hand... Because he has been named a lead hunter while one of those brats from when they were younger is Witch Hunter General. Just another time where the town decided to choose the people over parents than him. Over the one with the purest soul in town. At least, he thinks as he picks up the family photo and tries to calm himself, one of them. He needs his brother. He's gone again. He wishes Caleb would let him take care of him now. He makes enough money through the church to support them after all. He doesn't have to keep risking his life in the woods anymore.
"With the rest of the witches."
Philip's heart sinks. What? Who is this woman? He's never seen her? Wait, if she's with the witches, his brother is in danger! But the rest of them? If he waits for them to go he can find all of them and they'll HAVE to make him witch hunter general! But that means risking Caleb's life. He can't allow that, even for his own-
"You're right. Philip will just be happier here and... And maybe just best that I vanish. He'll just blame a witch for it anyways and trying to say goodbye would only put as all in danger." Tears come down Philip's face and his knuckles turn white as rain begins. A familiar door opens up next to Evelyn and she turns the key we all know in it. The shine of the portal illuminates Philip's face before a bolt of lightning has it change to Belos' mask and the special ends.
And that's it. It isn't a fun version of it but there's literally no version of the Wittebanes, without major retcons, that can be told in a fun way. They are orphans from a super conservative colony who majored in witch hunting before then having a schism between them be formed due to that witch hunting. This potentially, because it's up to interpretation, led to Philip killing Caleb. Bare minimum, something happens to Caleb that leads to him being dead and haunting his brother while Philip is left stranded on the Isles with no way of going back without finding his own way. The only part of that story that could be fun or comedic is the romance plotline with Evelyn and Caleb. It's also the one that allows the most to be left in obscurity about Belos, thus enabling the show not to contradict its own lore that way. Worse yet, it's also just the best story to tell there besides the rise of witch hunter Belos but those themes are indeed incredibly dark and SUPER not fun to tackle directly so it's better that it happens mostly off screen. Also, you know, it makes sure that the show doesn't glorify bigotry and hate by having us see the rise of Philip into bigoted witch hunter from his perspective. Instead, the story focuses on being critical of such things and accepting the other, which is theoretically in line with TOH in general.
It could be an effective special but I don't think it'd end up being what Belos fans want and for people who don't like Belos, the most they'll get out of it is ANOTHER quirky romance from TOH that mirrors Huntlow too much to feel unique or special. In other words, it's mostly a lose lose situation, especially since none of these elements will make the base story any deeper. It'll just add to the confusion some feel for the fact that they believe Belos is a victim and a product of his society who has a sympathetic reason for his anger but then is just a one note, pure evil villain in the main show.
This is honestly the problem with almost anything that addresses anything we saw in the show. The contradictory nature of the base product's writing, and how it slaughtered concepts at the root, means that expanding on these concepts can only make the contradictions worse. It can only make the base work worse or have MORE people screaming "WHY WASN'T THIS INCLUDED!?"
It's like how me and my Discord finally settled on one option for a lore book that could actually work for TOH if they wanted to release one for the show: One that tells us all about the Isles we didn't see. We see so little of it after all that just telling us about all these neat towns, the ways they operate, or expanding on the forms of magic that never got to do anything, could be neat. It doesn't fix the base show's lack of creativity or consistency but it doesn't inherently conflict with it either. It would just be there as harmless lore that also would have a bad hook for any readers because unlike the journals for Gravity Falls or Amphibia, they wouldn't expand on a character or the like.
The best route for TOH to go is to pull a Harry Potter, again (I hate how often this show forces me to bring up that stupid series) and make Fantastical Beasts and Where to Find Them. Either the movie or the book as either are at best tangentially related to the series but mostly just have the name of the series on them for brand recognition because the authors of both works didn't make a good enough world to actually tell anything more compelling within it after the story was done. Not without making the base product look worse.
And that includes the story of the Wittebanes.
======+++++======
What sucks is that I actually do like the plot I wrote up for the Wittebanes. Like this could genuinely be a really interesting story to make. However A: I wouldn't do fanfiction for it because of the requirement of one killing the other eventually that effectively demands no nuance between Caleb and Philip, forcing their dynamic to be very basic and B: it still suffers from having to be basic because Belos is a basic bitch evil guy while all signs from the show point to Caleb having been an absolute paragon. I made him about as gray as I could in my write up and it's still not much.
I have a public Discord for any and all who want to join!
I also have an Amazon page for all of my original works in various forms of character focused romances from cute, teenage romance to erotica series of my past. I have an Ao3 for my fanfiction projects as well if that catches your fancy instead. If you want to hang out with me, I stream from time to time and love to chat with chat.
A Twitter you can follow too
And a Kofi if you like what I do and want to help out with the fact that disability doesn’t pay much.

I finally watched Disneys Wish (2024) since it came out on Disney+ and I have a thought… or two.
Disney’s Wish (2024)
Thoughts and critiques
⚠️spoilers below the cut!!⚠️
So on my initial watch I actually kinda enjoyed it. Now HEAR ME OUT I CAN EXPLAIN-
I kind of enjoyed the songs (mostly because I didn’t really listen to the lyrics) and the movie and characters weren’t even that bad.
But after I thought about it some more and watched the behind the scenes videos I realized a couple things:
WE WERE ROBBED A STAR BOY LOVE INTEREST?!?
There are a couple things that weren’t even explained
Is Asha canonically the OG fairy godmother?
I still don’t know why Magnifico wanted the wishes all to himself
WE WERE ROBBED OF A VILLAIN COUPLE!!
My biggest gripe with the movie is how much potential it had, but it just fell short.
For this movie being Disneys big 100th anniversary project, it feels half baked. It felt unfinished, like I was watched the rough draft; the version that they show to a test audience to see what they needed to change and fix.
The people that worked on it kept saying that it was supposed to reflect the OG Disney that people know and love. If I’m being honest, they kind of missed the mark on it. As a movie in general it wasn’t terrible, but there were some things that were just missing.
Magnifico
Magnifico as a “classic Disney Villain” just didn’t make sense to me. He really has no clear reason for keeping the wishes all to himself. I know most of the classic villains were just kinda evil to be evil, but there was still a reason for them to be evil. (For example Malificent was salty about not being invited to the ball [kinda extra but whatever] the Evil queen wanted to be the fairest of them all,the witch doctor from Princes and the Frog wanted money, etc etc, you get the idea). The one thing they did though was making him and unredeemable villain. Bro was rotten to the core and had me hating him by the end of the movie, no matter how fine he is(one of the most handsome villains lemme just SAY)
And don’t even get me STARTED on his villain song. It felt too much like a lead up to his actual villain song. If there was a reprise or something like that later in the movie I could have accepted that. Theo whole thing just felt too upbeat and almost childish to me. They were cooking a little bit in the middle but they lost it again.
Star
I SIMPLY WILL NOT LET GO OF THE FACT THAT WE AS A COMMUNITY WERE ROBBED!! There was so much potential for this Peter Pan type character and possible love interest?? And it’s not even because I’m a romance buff, but most female leads in Disney classics have a love interest, and if I’m to believe that this is reminiscent of said classics, we need a love interest. (Also can we just collectively agree that Star Boy would be added the Tubler sexy man list with expediency? Yes? Ok.)
The Queen
I don’t have much to nitpick about the queen but WE COULD HAVE HAD A VILLIN DUO! There was so much potential for some BANGER villain duets. And sure the classics didn’t really have villain couples per se, but they had plenty of villain groups, so it still would have made sense.
The references
I expected a lot more references and Easter eggs from other Disney movies, but I was struggling. I was looking the whole time and all I found were some hidden Mickey’s and a few throw aways lines alluding to characters and other movies. This is Disney’s big 100th anniversary! It should be full of references from all 100 years of movies! Maybe that’s just me but those references weren’t cutting it for me.
The Fandom
The Wish fandom is actually thriving more than I thought. We made a whole fandom out of nothinggg! Fan art, edits, fanfics, animatics, whole entire songs!! You name it, we have it. Honestly we should have just made the movie ourselves.
Again I say as a base movie it wasn’t that bad. There were some witty lines I liked, the friend group was cool (prob some of my fave characters tbh). The talking goat was THE funniest character(argue with the wall) and the Star is very plushy-able and I WILL be buying it when the murch drops thank YOU. Plus the storyline made sense with it being about making your dreams come true and such, perfectly falling in line with the whole Disney brand.
There were plenty of good things about it but it just wasn’t enough to call it a good anniversary movie. I finished the movie feeling horribly underwhelmed. It just felt like another Disney movie. I expected a lot more.
I mostly likely will be watching it again just to see if I find more, and who knows maybe it will be better the second time around.
Also make sure to leave a comment so I can see if I’m alone thinking that this movie wasn’t entirely a mistake haha…

As a Tomdaya on the bird app, who stans Tom and Z as individuals as well as their relationship, I’d thought I chime in. I agree with the anon that Z is treated very differently on the app than Tom and I find it weird. I think Z fans are very proctevtive of Z, rightfully so but they often fail to view her as a human being and put her on this bizarre pedestal that sometimes removes her humanity as an individual that I can only really compare to to Taylor swift. Disney is the starting block to ownership because a lot of fans either grew up with Z or rewatched her shows on the channel that they are the super fans today. Add in The Greatest Showman, MCU, Euphoria and Dune. Properties with big fan bases. Her music career was also very successful though cut short and had a huge impact. It’s not lost on me of the sheer volume of fame and fans she’s received being strategic and being one of a kind talent.
Tom on the other hand has MCU but really didn’t grow up in the public the way Z did at age 13. Another factor I think is a big contribution to this phenomenon is that Z encourages parasocial relationships with her fans. I didn’t think to much of this because most celebs have social media but most don’t really talk to fans unless their gen z or musicians.
They put Z on puritanical pedestals and remove her humanity.Sometimes I think they forget that they know she lurks on socials and might like or retweets accounts thus creating subfandoms that have relations to Z. Those fandoms are not bad and great if your a fan. But those ones like timdayas, hunterdaya or anyone daya who cut Tom out of everything is just so weird to me. They get annoyed if you make a Tomdaya joke cause she more than her relationship. They’re not wrong but she’s always more than her costars but they never see through that logic because it doesn’t fit their narrative lol.
Timothee used to be parasocial as well, especially at the beginning of his career. He would communicate with fans and actually create a bond with them on socials and real life. Club Chalamet is a result of that lol. After the Eiza situation, he stopped and mainly keeps interactions slim and mainly related to his next project because he saw that lines were being blurred and those fans at the time were judgmental. Idk if you remember the infamous Timothee I trusted you meme because despite general public coming for him, those stans really were doing too much lol. I think that’s why he hid his relationships from his fans because they built this idea of him when he’s just a man in his 20s figuring it out lol.
Tom fans are in three catergories mcu fanboys, Tomdayas like me lol, antis who don’t like Z. His fanbase on twitter is really an amalgamation of Tomdayas who both love Z and Tom but their small compared to Z’s or Timothee. When he gets hate Tomdaya felt the need to defend on his behalf. The reality is Tom doesn’t care. He only uses insta and avoids twitter. He healthy because he live in his own universe. However, he’s not a Paul mescal or Josh O’Connor where his work little or alot can stand out for itself whether he’s likeable or not. A lot of his fame comes from his personality or ip films. I’m aware I missed Billy Elliot, just don’t thinks it relevant on social media. Yes I loved tcr but when the rt score came it was brutal. It was shocking seeing critics who relatively have a niche on films come for him and I was just sad that ppl had this much vitriol despite the fact he’s not problematic. Both film twitter beloved Chris Pine and Chris Evans have critically failure and there’s not hate as much as Tom got that week. One thing as a Tomdaya that muted certain z fans who hate on him is that he really doesn’t care.
Him liking that insta post about him forgetting he’s famous made me realise that as a fan I should not care and just curate my account for my own happiness. I don’t engage tweets about comparison with other actors, z’s exes or costars because I know it’s bait. Toms fanbase is small so I’m happy it’s not as big as other actors. That’s why I think those fans can repost his kissing scenes of intamite scenes cause he doesn’t lurk Twitter and it doesn’t start trending. Z does so when those fans post things about her boyfriend or her exes or costars, they know she lurks and I think that’s weird. Maybe that’s why Tomdayas get on defence lol. I’m aware though some Tomdayas can be cringe. I’m not rewriting history here lol.
That’s my two cents lol. Hope you have a good day xxx
Thnx for your input Anon. 😊
Another factor I think is a big contribution to this phenomenon is that Z encourages parasocial relationships with her fans.
I wouldn't say she encourages it, I just think she wants to try to stay personable with her fans and show them that she's still that kind, down to earth girl from Oakland that they've always known and loved, no matter how "famous" she gets. 😊
I didn’t think to much of this because most celebs have social media but most don’t really talk to fans unless their gen z or musicians.
Well Z IS Gen Z lol 😅
Timothee used to be parasocial as well, especially at the beginning of his career. He would communicate with fans and actually create a bond with them on socials and real life. Club Chalamet is a result of that lol. After the Eiza situation, he stopped and mainly keeps interactions slim and mainly related to his next project because he saw that lines were being blurred and those fans at the time were judgmental.
Well, honestly Anon.... MOST Celebrities (I feel) have realized over the years that the LESS they share of their personal life, the BETTER. If you go back 7 years....even just 5 years....and you were to go back in time and be on IG or Twitter as a fan back then, you would see that Z, Tom, Timothee, shoot....even Austin, Nadia lol, etc. ALL used to be waaaay more personable, engaging, and even posted WAY more on their social media accounts back then compared to now. I think over the years, a LOT of these celebrities (especially the ones who are fairly famous) have all realized just how toxic social media has become in just such a short time, and I think they have figured out that the less they share, the better.
Fans have definitely crossed the line, and these actors have realized that they need to put a boundary again btwn them, their private life, and their fans. That's just my own personal observation and theory. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Him liking that insta post about him forgetting he’s famous made me realise that as a fan I should not care and just curate my account for my own happiness.
I definitely think you should curate your online account for your own happiness and not worry too much about Tom. With that said, while he may have liked that post, we can't say with 100% accuracy that "he doesn't care" about what people say about him. He IS human after all. He might not care about ALL things, but certain things might def be hurtful.

It’s nice to see people view Lumity (and also the other writing stuff and plot points) in a more critical light, and not acting like everything about the show is “flawless, 1000/10 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥💯”.
This show can and it does have amazing writing, but it would be stupid to act as if it doesn’t have a few moments where it slightly trips or fumbles completely.
((Also another Lunter shipper, hi 🤧))
"But it's all Disney's fault they cancled the show!" I know and I also know it influenced things, I won't deny it didn't. But the main thing is the crew was well aware since early S2A that the show was going to get cut short, so they knew how much time they'd have to wrap things up! I can forgive things like the plotline of Luz helping BQ find who her previous owner was being dropped or the relationship between Matt and Steve being halfbrothers unexplored, those aren't important to the overal story. But they left out such big things, hate him or not there is no denying Belos had a big part in spearheadding some big plot events, hell his backstory is what kindled 99% of the plot to start with! The fact it was teased ever since Yesterday's lie, the fact we see Belos go dellusional and seeing ghosts of his past. Only for it to lead nowhere is infuriating to say the least. Dana didn't like writting Belos, cool. Then she could've just sucked it up or have someone else write him for her. I'm fully convinced that's why we got so much half assed nonesense in S3, Dana didn't want to write her villain properly so she just threw in whatever else she could to avoid writing him as much as possible. And as a writer that is bad practice, there were multiple ways for her to just write Belos off as being a one note villain from the get go but that didn't happen. His backstory was made WITH the cut in mind, people compliment Dana for subverting tropes but she's not that great at it in all honesty. Given this was her first time as show runner too I'll admit I'm not quite intrested what else she'll come up with. The crew isn't that great at writing romance if you ask me, they are great at writing friendships however, maybe that is why Willuz/Lunter feel more like a ship than any of the canon ships we've got. I loved seeing Gus and Hunter interact too as well as Willow and Gus, makes me think maybe TOH would've been better off if we had no romance in it maybe but it is what it is sorry for the long post nonnie!

Hello sorry to bother you with this all of sudden ,and this might be coming out of nowhere, and I’m not trying to force you but I m trying to get more people into this show with great potential. If your not interested it’s fine but Have you heard of or watched moon girl and devil dinosaur? Season 2 comes out February 2.
The main character i love she gives me autistic vibes I’m autistic. The show has interesting characters, action ,great music, and animation ,good themes and representation, Anime references, it even has an eyecatch season 2 is going to be more story driven if you find that interesting. It be good if you watch the first 2 season 2 episode when they air so the ratings will be higher.
I think Disney might be trying to sabotage the show with dropping 14 episodes on Disney + on February 3. They did similar with season 1 and the ratings where low ,please watch season 2 episodes when they air on. But more importantly also watch it on Disney + on feb 3 and when they air it on YouTube. Unfortunately they are dropping 14 episodes on Disney + so watch them all in one day but also when they air the first time.
I’m not just saying only cable just also. I’m saying please support this show. Despite that it still won 5 Emmys. Also if it’s no trouble could if it alright with you spread the word about this show to others you know like either online or irl. Time is limited!
Tumblr media
To preface for anyone looking at this ask i am NOT chara, im @negagender the host
Chara isnt here atm so im answering this on behalf of them since it's well, time sensitive.
We've heard of it and have a few friends who like it! I've never had the chance to watch it in a legitimate way unfortunately since we no longer have disney+ or the channel that plays it. I hate to see cartoons fail. i have so much respect for animation as a medium. I will spread the word as well as I can and if i do find a way to watch i will do so! I really hope disney doesn't end up cutting the life of another great show short, it's really disheartening that they (like most networks) have this track record nowadays
We are autistic as well and will do what we can, especially spread this! Thank you for the info!

Ok live action atla reaction for episode 2.
It was better than episode one. Where episode one was a dumpster fire actively trying to hurt me both as an avatar fan and as someone with a basic understanding of how multimodal media is used to craft stories, episode two is fine.
I hesitate to call it great or even good when my only other point of reference so far is one of the worst episodes of TV I have seen in the past decade. Or possibly just ever. But I can comfortably say it was fine.
Perhaps my biggest on going issue is still the dialogue. When they don't sound like they just walked out of a LA therapists office, they instead sound like they are either in a circa 2010 disney original tv show, or just straight up like the writer explaining directly to camera how they are justifying skipping events from the animation because they have made the characters so much more mature and self aware of what they need to do/become for the sake of saving the world.
In short, Sokka remains unfunny.
I can't believe the "I bet you taste like chicken" comment wasn't even in response to Momo doing anything in particular. Momo is just there chilling on Aang's shoulder and Sokka is glaring at him like Momo is his arch rival, talking about a singular non mishmash animal that he has probably never even seen before because where the fuck where the chicken coops in the south fucking pole!?
Katara's strives in bending probably look impressive to anyone who hasn't seen the first episode of the animation where she already outclassed her current progress. Girl was out there (accidentally) splitting icebergs out of anger, but I'm meant to be impressed she can make a water ball in 3 seconds? I hate how badly she has been nerfed.
I also hate how they made it that Gram Gram actively helped nerf her by denying Katara her inheritance until it was clear she was gonna hop on a flying bison and go on adventures with the Avatar. She didn't even give her the scroll directly and apologise to her face. Just shoved it in her bags with a sorry note and now we're deprived of Katara stealing from pirates! Which means Katara is gonna be carrying that "goody toe shoes always morally correct with no room for nuance mom friend" burden for who knows how much longer now.
We did FINALLY get some Iroh adjacent behaviour from Uncle Iroh. Him trying to cajole Zuko into eating some street food and getting distracted mid sentence because he noticed some sticky rice wasn't perfectly executed but it was better executed than any other Iroh moments we have seen so far. Mostly he still hits as gaslighty and condescending. And don't get me wrong. OG Iroh COULD be gaslighty but never so fucking blatantly. There's no finesse, no gentle distractions layered with concern. Where is the charisma? Instead we effectively get him going "you're wrong. you should consider giving up." at every other time he talks to Zuko (less so this episode than last but only because he "tries" to teach Zuko diplomacy. Yes there are quotes around tries for a reason. He basically says Do This, gives no real guidance on how and then steps in to do the thing the second Zuko is sucking because he's never had to do this shit before and doesn't want to do it now especially since he has no idea wtf Iroh means).
Anyways, didn't they say they were overhauling the Ba Sing Se arc to make it less gaslighty? Yet they let this vibe fly with Iroh of all people?
We did at least get Suki though. And she's mostly pretty recognisably Suki. Save for the instant and hardcore pining for Sokka because he immediately became a surrogate for her yearning for the outside world. I can appreciate that they wanted to nix Sokka's sexism and instead just made him insecure about his status as a warrior, and they almost made it work but they cut themselves off from such an interesting interplay of tension by having Suki just as, if not more, eager to show off her skills to Sokka as he was to act like he was a big tough southern water tribe warrior. They were on to something when they had her question how he could be the guardian of his village if he was here with the Avatar instead. They could of had her be dismissive of his claims at being a warrior when he was clearly acting like an undisciplined blow hard and the fanthrowing/chokehold scene could have been a "stop acting tough, I am the warrior you're claiming to be" moment which wouldn't have involved any sexism on either side and have made a basis for mutual respect when Sokka comes along to the training hall. They could have had him humbly ASK instead of awkwardly miming until Suki noticed. We could have still had Sokka in Kyoshi Warrior garb. It would have stuck closer to the original, it wouldn't have taken up more time, and it would have created a much more satisfying interplay of tension between the two characters which also would help ground their future relationship in mutual respect.
I will say though, although the writing fucking choked the cinematography, the lighting team, the actors and the editors all came through with creating a sense of attraction between the two characters. So that wasn't nothing.
Kyoshi was a high point. Still fell victim to the dialogue writing, but a very strong perfomance by Yvonne Chapman accented excellently by the sound design team during some of the more intense parts when they layered in all the other Avatar voices. She was a good choice for giving Aang a bunch of hard truths and I liked how she both told him he had to find his own path but when he kept pushing for a more concrete answer just started telling him to deal with shit her way, because that felt very Kyoshi.
Also the entire sequence of her manifesting through Aang to show him a bit of what he could do as the avatar and lowkey to protect HER island was fucking badass. Not a single fire nation soldier left that island with clean underwear after facing Avatar mother fucking Kyoshi.
Unfortunately I was very quickly brought down from this high by Aang closing out his part of the episode by saying that Kyoshi told him something terrible was going to happen to the Northern Water Tribe if he didn't get up there and do his duty as the avatar to stop it. A conversation beat that happened off screen btw.
This annoys me for several reasons, starting with since when can the Avatar's collective past lives tell the future? The big threat to the Northern Water Tribe was originally Zhao coming to kill the moon spirit, which is a culmination of his lust for dominance and power and his plans to capture the avatar for himself. So either that isn't happening (and they are unnecessarily trying to revamp a perfectly good finale to stroke their own egos) OR they have made the nonsensical decision to foretell this tragedy in the show instead of just letting the tension mount naturally because 80+% of their audience already know shit goes down in at the Northern Water Tribe. Which annoys the fuck out of me. Aang was always going to go North for water bending training anyways, and especially this borderline hyper responsible version of Aang who knows even if it will hurt emotionally he will need to learn the other elements. There was no good god damn reason to add a second layer of urgency by saying if he doesn't get there bad shit will happen!
My closing rant is really more of a question, but why the fuck is it every time we see a firelord, (Sozin and now Ozai) that they are just hanging out in the middle of the fucking chamber chatting with some fucking guys until a prisoner/messenger arrives while the fire throne looms menacingly in the background upstairs and 50 feet back. Where is the menace and pizazz of them sitting looking down on literally everyone and everything from up on high flanked by flames, committing atrocities with a wave of their hand and a few low spoken words that everyone grovels to hear? I believe in Daniel Dae Kim's ability to look scary and lordly on a fancy chair, especially if the fancy chair has FIRE, why doesn't the director?

The Owl House-Watching and Dreaming Recap
Tumblr media
Thanks For Watching Spoilers below.
Well here we are. It sucks that The Owl House was cut short. It is possible that Disney Branded Television just wanted to focus on comic musicals, but the fact it was the Gay show that hit the worst will always be an asterisk next to this show. When I started this blog, we were in a golden age of animation. Adventure Time had ushered in so much serialized storytelling that I built these blog around. Today Netflix and Warner Bros are burning down their feet to save a few bucks. It’s not a good time to be an animation fan. I don’t think this will last, these dark ages never do, but it’s gonna be a rough few years. It is an end of an Era. It was beautiful.
While the first two episodes dealt with the condensed plot very well, this one struggles a bit. The dreaming we get from the trailers last barely five minutes before we move onto Steven Universing the Collector. This goes way too fast. I wasn’t a big fan of the collector as it was, and this rushed timing wasn’t helping. Don’t get me wrong, I get WHY it’s rushed. I don’t know why I don’t gel with the Collector’s arc. I liked similar stuff from other shows. I guess they were presented very differently in their first appearance. I do think sending them away to find themselves works though.
The good news, the rest is fantastic. Belos merges with the Titan’s heart, and Luz get’s King’s Dad, who is voiced by Arin Hanson which I did not expect. And he has a Hooty cause of course he does. Where else would Hootys come from?
He gives Luz gets a cool Titan transformation. The final Belos battle is fantastic and he melting as he fails to manipulate Luz and Eda, King, and Raine JoJo stomp him. Also, amazing ‘eat this sucker’ call back. Belos was a fanatic villain, cruel and interesting in all the right ways. Charismatic enough to get his deal, but not to sympathize with. Real love to hate. A new england witch hunter vs the witch loving teen. It was such a great thematic contrast. A perfect foil to Luz.
The poor Hex Squad don’t get much to do. They try to catch the people turned puppets during the final battle, but it’s not much.
The fake out where they looked like they were gonna Amphibia it, but nope. Luz is going to college in the Boiling Isles and she’s been in contact with everyone the whole time. Everyone’s future designs were fantastic!
The Bat Queen favor thing never came back, but with the shortened season that would be something to put in the backpocket for a revival.
Maybe the show will come back. Executives and trends are all ways moving behind the scenes. Stranger things have happened.
I love the Owl House. The witch aesthetic really does it for me. And the story hit me in ways I haven't been hit since Gravity Falls. Even the compromised ending was great, if a bit shaky. In an age of giants, it was a Titan.

FTF thoughts
hookay FTF thoughts here we go! It's long so it's under a read more hah! There are parts about FTF I liked but a lot...also not really. I will say as a disclaimer I do understand that due Disney cutting the show things changed and things that were planned or set up had to be altered or dropped entirely. But there are so many choices in terms of writting and some personal biases from the crew that really just make me wonder "BUT WHY" Philip! Augh again an episode where he spends doing....nothing. Though this is more a general complaint of mine in the series over all esp now I've watched trough toh a couple times is that as a villain Philip doesn't really do all that much. Anything intresting he does do is either cut short, or we only learn about it via flashbacks/background info. I know Dana said she hates writing him and it shows! Which is honestly a shame because even if you dislike him, he's not just a cut and dry villain there's a lot of substance to him. And it's really sad to watch that go to waste.
I DID like the scene with Ghost Caleb, I had theorized for a long time that he was being haunted by the ghost of his brother/previous GGs and it's nice to see I was correct about that. And him saying "Oh, shut up." to them was funny, AND I WAS RIGHT ABOUT HIM HAVING ONE FINAL GRIMWALKER, but sadly much like anything intresting it wasn't meant to be. And now he's possesing Raine.
Which I apolgize for anyone who likes Raine, I really don't. And I'm sad that I don't but Raine just has such little substance, take away the fact they're Eda's ex and...there's not a lot there. Now of course Raine isn't the only character who suffers from this issue but Raine is more in your face because being Eda's ex means they're supposed to be more revelant but there's just not a whole lot there. Raine roleplayers I beg of you, PLEASE help me like Raine! I know they have potential but the show will not provide!
And to close my thoughts off on Philip so far, I'm sad they're just having him do the same thing, all signs point to him going to restart the draining spell, which kinda makes the whole DOU thing feel pretty moot. Sadly the way things are just makes so that there is just not a lot they can do with him in general. I've been expecting him to die by the end of the show since Hollow Mind and I figured he was going to kick the bucket by the end of King's tide so they could give all the attention to the collector (we'll get to him next). But guess he'll still be there for the finale. Regardless RIP Philip Wittebane, you were a great villain but you wound up being wasted.
Now onto The Collector....
Oh boy. Now given he was included because of the cut I was already a little iffy on him since Philip WAS already a great villain for the show, but ok fine, lets see what they'll do with him.
OOF. They pretty much declawed him instantly, compare to how TC acts in season 2 vs how he is in FTF. We got some intresting tidbits such as the collectors having been an entire species, who as their name suggests collect. But if something prevents them from collecting they'd go nuclear and kill everything, except we are shown TC doesn't like this. Which honestly is stupid as hell given HE LITTERALLY HELPED PHILIP TO PLOT GENOCIDE, but no, he gets excused of that because he's "uwu baby" ugh. I am willing to bet that the collector who caught the owl beast will be a different collector and not the one we know (it was a nice nod to see the Owl beast act up when seeing the collector, poor creature was tortured basically)
I also wasn't impressed by the Weirdmageddon but watered down. (The bit with Terra was funny) And Odalia...well she's there...yay? They said they were going to go ham,but fail at going ham F
So The collector so far is just a watered down Bill Chiper and not even a good one at that.
Huntlow, fucking hate it, sorry not sorry. As a trauma survivor I'm honestly so tired of the trope that we need romance to be "fixed" I don't give a shit if "Plus sized girls should see they can get the hot guy too" as a plus sized person, there are different ways they could've done that. Body positivity is important yes but this isn't the way to do it. Did we really need half the episode spend on Boscha and Kikimora? I don’t think so Stringbean? Her design is hella adorable but her being a “shifter” just feels like fan service to me, since many people have been speculating what her palisman was going to be Dana just said “Oh, she’ll be ALL the things so nobody is wrong” they should’ve just been her base snake form. woof, I really don’t want to be so negative but it’s hard to ignore bad writing when I see it, to quote what someone said in my discord server “So far, TTT and FTF really just feel like nothing more than afterthoughts” and honestly, I agree. I will be excited to watch the Finale in April (provided Itunes doesn’t fucking leak it again) but my hopes are all but gone, I don’t have much if any expectations

I mean. I knew Lily was ignorant and dumb but this hay’s code thing is another level. Alright gonna out myself, I’m a film major mostly in production and theory. Now the code was implemented in 1934 (though some say 1933). And it didn’t end (well there are debates as to whether we count the actual enforcement or the fact while the code existed but wasn’t enforced) until 1968. A 34-35 year not ten… 34-35 years of enforcement.
During that time there were directors who did sneaky things to fight back against the code. Have multiple kisses shorter than 3 seconds. Have suggestive imagery but blame the dirty thinking on the agent who saw the film to ensure the code was followed. And countless other examples. Not to mention the red scare also Played a BIG part of enforcement. The MPAA has done some things (like granting films with LGBT themes R ratings a rating with that excludes a lot of people) but it’s not as bad as the Hays Code who thought interracial love stories were a big no no, and in 1968 Star Trek had an interracial kiss that said F U to Jim Crow and Hays Code era thinking
my point was more going through the notion that even if it was "only 10" years that it was enforced, that's still a lot of movies, directors and creative people who saw all their hard work go to waste because it didn't meet some ridiculous criteria. for as many success stories you can count of people creatively managing to get around the hays code, there's as much if not way more stories of people and movies that never got made and no one saw. that's a tragedy, whether we're speaking 10 years, 5 years or the actual 30+ years that it was. a human being could have been born and die without ever seeing nothing else but hay's approved movies. it's a tragedy that something so simple and basic like a kiss between two people had to be revolutionary at all, it's disgusting that anyone ever said that two people shouldn't kiss because of racism. especially when we know that before that code existed, movies with queer people being queer already existed and they disappeared for 30+ years. some of them have been erased entirely. i don't understand how anyone can say that blaming the code hays or being mad about it is not only fair, but completely logical. it's not only deeply ignorant from her part to minimize the impact this had on cinema, but it's repugnant considering this is the same thing that LO always does: blame the individuals, never the institutions. the code hays was never implemented, but if it was then it wasn't a big deal and if it did it doesn't matter because these other movies came out, meaning that if your movie didn't it can only be your fault and not the people who enforced those absurd rules in the first place. it's not the fault of Disney that people are done with their "a person close to the production" always goes to the media to try to hype up movies around "our first ever gay character". it's the media, and the people who read that media, on the wrong because they just like to hate disney. it wasn't the fault of Disney's homophobia that TOH was cancelled, everyone just wants to hate Disney for no reason. it wasn't the fault of Netflix's tendencies of cutting queer shows short, the cancellation of First Kill was entirely because it was a "enemy to lovers" sapphic story. it wasn't the fault of Nickelodeon that the production of LOK was a mess, it was the writers and the people involved the only responsible because they should have known better, somehow. it wasn't the fault of Cartoon Network that SU went into hiatus more frequently than any other show at the time, no matter what the people who actually work for the company could say. it was the fault of Sugar for not magically knowing that a hiatus was coming and writing around it somehow. it's always the creative individual people who have the fault, not the companies who used them and disposes them whenever they please for whatever purpose. why do you think she doesn't speak about the big cut of HBO more? why do you think she isn't angry about how CN treated any other show that wasn't Teen Titans Go like utter trash? why is that when she wants to talk about WOW, she still talks far more about her white fantasy favourite female character being mistreated by a mere novelist writer than about the actual victims of harassment from the company?
because LO, for all her talk of being the only good leftist left, it's a capitalist anti-intellectual convenient tool whose true feelings will always have more in common with conservatives that she'd like to admit it.

This is disney salt
Watching disney movie that have goofy in it specifically a goofy movie and an extremely goofy movie. I liked both movie and a few of disney movie who have good sequel movie, when the sequel i was wondering where is roxanne. So i forgot which disney christmas movie but it has max and goofy then i see this female character name mona, at first i believe this is just roxanne with short and dye hair cut and also with teeth shape just like goofy & max until i learn her real name. Mickey mouse house of villain in one of the episode roxanne romantically interested in goofy 🤢🤢🤢🤢
1. This is disguting
2. Do they really hate roxanne that much
3. Is this a reason why max have another female love interest we barely know or remember
4. She's minor is already bad enough people sexualizing her and give her a really bad take on her
5. DISNEY DO HER JUSTICE
Like where is that coming from? Roxanne is clearly interested in max not goofy. Beside that she have friend name stacey who wear glasses and brace, she's not the outcast instead she's the popular one. We don't see them in the sequel, the beret girl please give her an actual name also let the beret girl befriend with roxanne & stacey
In ducktales they make max and roxanne official canon couple main question
Disney WHY DOES IT TAKES A LONG TIME DO TO IT HUH?
Yeah that period was weird. I guess they couldn't reference the goofy movies cause they're considered spinoffs? Glad they referenced Roxanne again.
Honestly i feel the those movies had a tv show those characters would get more attention

I did some design sheets for the non-OC toon characters + their OC family members in the Tooniverse and decided to post them :) a few liberties are taken (ie most characters not wearing gloves or shoes because i hate drawing them) but their designs are generally adapted from canon appearances! They’re mostly actors in the Tooniverse, so I’ve also written out what their personalities are like off-screen under the cut :)
Here’s Mortimer, Pete, and Fanny! Fanny’s here because I didn’t know what other characters to stick her with, no other reason.
Mortimer Slicker - Took his last name from the “Mr. Slicker” character in the old old Mickey comics, who was likely Mortimer’s predecessor in terms of character design. Didn’t want him to have the same last name as Mickey and Minnie. Mortimer is still kind of smarmy, but he’s not the sexist sleezeball he is in the shorts he appears in. If you look at his appearance in the “Maybe I’m a Maze” Mickey Mouse Funhouse episode, you can actually get a pretty good idea of how he acts off screen in the Tooniverse. He’s actually Mickey’s brother in law (his sister married Mickey’s sister) and that’s how they met in the first place- Mickey then offered him the spot on the upcoming “Mickey’s Rival” short they were gonna be filming. In the Tooniverse he’s actually a horse-mouse hybrid to explain his long nose and ears, since rat toons don’t exist.
Peter Percival Jr. - Peter Percival Sr. is actually the “Pete” that would appear in Oswald’s old shorts, his father. Yoinked “Percival” from the comics. Like his dad, he was born without his left foot, but that’s never stopped him. Toon tech is advanced enough he could probably get a more realistic prosthetic, but he likes his peg. Off camera he behaves a lot like Buford from Phineas and Ferb- weird and still maybe kind of aggressive, but not an out right jackass. Him and Mortimer are best friends, (And later they get together as a couple) and they’re both inspired by their appearance in the modern Mickey Mouse shorts.
Francine “Fanny” Cottontail - Oswald’s former love interest on his show- not his ex. She was simply an actor trying to get into the industry so she could be a director. I didn’t want to entirely erase her, but I like my Ostensias and didn’t want to mess with that in any way, so this seemed like a good solution! She’s actually the one that encouraged Ortensia to replace her on the show, and then she took up the role of director when the one they had threw a hissy fit about the idea of Oswald suddenly switching love interests. Sassy, kind of crude, honest, but loyal, she’s one of Oswald and Ortensia’s closest friends, having helped them sneak around the unapproving J.P. Whiskers many a time. She’s still a director over at Disney now, and usually works on House of Mouse (which runs for much longer in the Tooniverse) and the modern Mickey shorts. She loves to play match maker.

Thought's on the finale of The Owl House
youtube
So now that the series is (sadly) over, I felt like talking about the finale a little since I think there are some interesting things in it to discuss.
Taking into consideration that this series was cut short and they had to do the best they could with the best they had, they still managed to deliver a pretty freaking good finale all things considered.
The animation was great, the storylines were all wrapped up, every character had one last moment to shine (although some were brief), and as always, you can feel a lot of the love and effort the creators are putting into the product.
Most of the problems I had are basically just a matter of wishing this could have had more room to breathe because plenty of things get solved a tad too quickly. It kinda makes me wish I could see a director's cut.
Almost all of the issues I can just accept and blame it on Disney for axing the show, but two in particular really make me go "this needed more time."
(spoilers)
Tumblr media
The first one is the Collector.
This kid has been built up like crazy. The entire season 2 finale is basically trying to show how much of a big deal they are, how much trouble they can cause, how disconnected from reality they are, and just how immensely important it is that they get dealt with properly.
Even in the final scene of episode 2 of season 3, it ends with them going "I want to play a new game!" Dun! Dun! Duuuum!"
And then we see said game, and it's just a dream sequence to teach Luz a lesson we already new, followed by playing some games that just last for a few minutes.
Then the Collector gets a little sad, Luz talks to them, and they become friends...
That's it. That's the big climactic confrontation with one of the most powerful characters of the show.
Tumblr media
Now, I will say, I did enjoy that they address that the kid just suffers from a lack of understanding of how mortal lives work, and I do appreciate they didn't just make them some raging, crazy kid who hates Luz because King likes her more. I'm glad they made them surprisingly reasonable and patient for their mental age.
Still, I can't help but feel their "defeat" and redemption arc were way too fast and easy. If I were to guess, the stuff with The Collector probably was meant to be its own entire episode, and the true final boss was another, but they had to shrink it due to the cancellation, and if that's the case, that's a real shame because I would really like to see a deeper exploration of this kid's way of thinking and seeing Luz trying to help them realize their errors.
As it is, it wasn't done badly, but I wish it had more.
I also don't like how when Luz gets "killed" the Collector is the one getting focused on and crying over her. Their bond is just not that strong to make these tears feel earned. It's like if in Lion King the one crying over Mufasa was Nala or Zazu instead of Simba. It's not the worst character to cry over her, but there were definitely better options to focus on.
However, I can forgive all that because the scene where they try to deal with Belos using the power of love was absolutely perfect and it made me laugh hard. That was definitely my favorite joke on the whole show.
Tumblr media
And now, the second thing on the finale I'm kinda iffy about...
Belos comes back as the final boss (again), and kills Luz, resulting into her turning into literal orbs of luz that just start fading over time until they make their way to... King's dad.
Because why not?
Who just happens to be able to give her an "I win" button so she can go into her Super Sayan form (because every Disney show needs to have at least one character with a Super Sayan form now, not that I'm complaining)...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...and alongside Eda and King, they defeat Belos and save the day.
Now, first of all, Luz's titan form? 10/10! I absolutely, freaking love that design. I love that she's a combination of King and Eda being a mix of a witch and a monster, while also having her own side with all the glyphs floating around her. Plus, she has claws, and we all know that anything with claws is instantly cool. Definitely, my favorite super form from any Disney show. (Unless they make a Jake Long reboot and give him a super dragon form)
I also like how the animation just shines as they fight Belos (who now looks like a badass bone dragon creature), and how each of the main trio has a small moment to help in the battle, it isn't just Luz doing everything.
Not to mention they have an amazing remix of the opening theme playing in the background which just makes it even more awesome.
My favorite part is when they start to wonder where Belos' weak spot is and Luz says "You know where" and Eda just gives the widest, proudest, most joyful grim ever right before all voice actors give their all while screaming "THE HEART!"
It reminds me of Puss In Boots 2 where all the characters look like they're having fun while going through the adventure.
I kinda wish Luz could have had some cooler lines, but they tried to make a point that Luz is a dork that isn't very good at it so... Eh, I'll forgive it. I know she has her "Eat this, sucker!" thing, but I honestly completely forgot that that was even meant to be her catchphrase.
Tumblr media
Honestly, this entire climax is amazing and just perfect for the series... But I kept thinking to myself "how in the world did Luz went from being a ball of light to meeting King's dad???"
I have no problems with what we got, I'm just not sure HOW we got it. The way Luz just went from nearly dying to just appearing in the place of the one guy that could help her save the day felt very Deus Ex Machina.
These are basically my only two problems with the finale. I wish we had gotten more time with the Collector and their arc, and that we had a bigger exploration of how Luz got there.
The way it is, it feels like the day was saved not because the heroes were smart enough, or strong enough to defeat the bad guy, but... Because the plot said so.
I mean, yeah, King's dad gave Luz the power because she was nice to his son, so you could say her kindness was what saved the day... But I don't know... Is that what Owl House's final theme is about? Being kind?
Owl House's themes for me were always about being creative, being weird, not being afraid of experimenting new things, thinking outside of the box, and learning to observe and listen, and not being afraid of accepting who you really are.
I wish these themes had played a bigger part in the defeat of the final boss, like in Gravity Falls where what allows them to defeat Bill is Stan's willingness to sacrifice himself for his family.
Tumblr media
Luz and King have a great relationship and the fact that she is a wonderful older sister to a little monster does tie into the theme of accepting others and not being afraid of trying weird things... But I'm not sure if I like how that's the final message we leave the show on.
I guess I just wish that King's dad would have had a bigger build-up. If maybe while dying Luz would have used her creativity one last time to somehow get her to teleport into the Titan, then I would have been more okay with it.
This show seriously needed more episodes...
Still, even though the build-up was kinda rushed (to me at least), the pay-off was so good that I can't really get too upset about it.
Again, titan Luz was everything I never knew I wanted in my life (there is gonna be so much fan art of that form on the internet). If a slightly confusing solution is the price that needs to be paid to get such an epic form and such an epic climax like that, I'll gladly take it.

Man I hate Disney, like kudos to Dana and everyone else working on the Owl House who made wrapping up all these plot threads work somehow despite the tight schedule but you can still feel how compressed and fast everything is moving and I hate it. We spend a montage on what should be an episode to itself. I remember reading somewhere that Steve (as much as I love him) is taking on the role of what would have been an entirely new character if they had time. We should have had forty fucking more episodes, or at least twenty more, and we were denied that because it didn’t fit the “Disney-brand” or whatever the fuck they’re playing at.
And at this point Disney can’t even capitalize on any goodwill generated from Lumity going canon because they shot themselves in the foot, I actually feel even more bitter towards them knowing they likely decided to cut The Owl House short because Dana had the bravery to push for it (not to say I trusted Disney the corporation beforehand). Like, the gay stuff already happened, they might as well tried to take advantage of it but they didn’t, their homophobia was greater than their business sense which is the one thing I thought I could trust Disney to prioritize. I’m sad I guess, since I don’t really get attached to media enough to stay up late and watch each episode as it premieres often. It just really reinforces that artists produce good art in spite of Disney, not because of it.
I don’t know where I’m going with this, I’m just frustrated and not just with the Owl House but every good show where you can feel the pacing getting fucked by some arbitrary length or deadline imposed on it. The Owl House feels like it has to be longer to properly enjoy it! The Boiling Isles, the characters, the magic system, they’re all so very interesting and fun! But Disney got in a tiff over an objectively good show I’d gladly recommend to my little cousin because two girls held hands because Disney only cares about their brand when it comes to being homophobic rather than producing quality art.
Hmm I don’t know where I’m going with this. It’s late and I’m tired. I like complaining I guess, and I also like art and am both fascinated and repulsed just how much the feelings of executives have on the final product of a bunch of passionate artists.
