so I’ve been turning over the question in my mind of why exactly Goro stays loyal to (/aligns himself with) Shido for so long, and wanted to get your thoughts. do you think the sink-cost fallacy just has that much of a chokehold? or other factors combined with fear, despite goro’s confidence in his abilities, since shido has yakuza connections and ways of contracting murder outside of the metaverse? or, I think it’s evident from the engine room dialogue & more that on some level he does want acknowledgement from shido.

in fanworks that explore him refusing to carry out akira’s execution, that usually comes with the realization that someone does in fact want him around and that he’d be a fool to throw that away, but maybe that’s reading too much of the player’s emotions into Joker’s actions/dialogue—still, I do think it’s clear from their confidant that joker is written to care about Goro. so then it makes me wonder why Goro was willing to throw that away, or if he didn’t think it was genuine, or if it just wasn’t enough.

u clearly have many thoughts abt akechi and I love how you write in your comics, so I hope you don’t mind me asking for your take on this!

maybe this is kind of a boring take but i do think it's a sunk cost fallacy thing at the end of the day. the other factors you've brought up might play into it a bit too but i really think that the main thing is: this is a revenge plan he's dedicated the last two whole years to And ruined countless lives over (including, i'd argue, his own) AND by the point we see him in game it feels like it's nearing the final stages. this is as far as one can get from a point where you'd be able to just admit your plan sucks and abandon it!!

comparatively speaking to all that, akira is really just a distraction & obstacle in the face of the Grander Scheme. whatever he can offer goro will obviously just pale in comparison to finally getting the revenge he's worked soooo hard for. any other hesitations can just be looked over with the idea that killing him means he's won & that he's better than him <3

i adore the concept of the abused becoming the abuser. mishima, a powerless and useless nobody for so long, finally given power and a helpful role; helpful to REAL LIFE SUPERHEROES nonetheless! he's like their guy in the chair! he's their biggest fan, their greatest ally! he's actually something now!

his fragile ego expanded by a billion and soon he became the very thing he hates so much. the very thing who hurt him. the very thing he wanted gone forever.

the requests he gives you start out as normal! actual bad people who need their hearts changed! but bit by bit, they get more personal, more selfish; and the way he words it is sketchy too. he just wants people gone because he's jealous of their success. he wants what they want, he wants to be recognized, he wants to be famous and adored!!!

i feel like he's very similar to akechi (i could go on and on about their parallels but i will stay on topic) because they have the same concept: "what if the victims, the ones you try so hard to protect from being hurt, start hurting others themselves?"

though unlike akechi we get to watch mishima become more corrupted. persona 5 has a lot of text supporting the idea that it is NOT INDIVIDUALS who dirty our world, but the system that we are all apart of, all prisoners of that needs changing. and we watch mishima slowly give in to that system and start tearing others down for his own gain, so he can boost himself higher.

i think mishima is very important because of what he symbolizes. he's a lovely character and i adore him very much. and i think his annoying traits are actually quite endearing (despite what most of the fandom thinks) and sensible for someone like him

but don't think that means i won't bully him. he so totally deserves to be made fun of a little (i was cracking up at his final rank where he was acting all dramatic, stepping forward and looking up and saying "i want to change!" like ok theater kid) (also in futaba's confidant where he was doing a horrible job at conversing. you dumbass. smooch)

my thing about yosuke is because of his various transgressions I barely like him but I just find him weirdly compelling? Idk I think he's kinda realistic, he's always reminded me of those guys in high school who could be pretty likeable sometimes but sucked soooo bad. He's very teenage boy in that way. THAT'S REALLY ITTTTT. he's so fascinating and ive built such a rich character study of him in my head and my ideas are amazing so i think i like him then i go back to the source material and every time im like 'goddamn yosuke SUCKSSSS' but i can't really hate him lol the magician characters are always annoying but charming boys who are early in their de-bastardification process 😭😭😭 as for akesh* I HOPE EVERYONE THAT LIKES THEM GOES TO HELLLLLLLLLLL. i have written so many dissertations on how persona 5 having the silent hill 2 problem and trying to copy details from the best entry in the series (persona 4) is the source of all their problems but i'll say it again! atlus wanted to have another adachi/souji moment so bad but make them the same age so they could have ethical yaoi but it just did not work. if they wanted that they SHOULDVE made makoto a boy and ooooooooooooooooooo the yaoi wouldve written itself. like its so crazy the wrote a worthy rival in makoto who was actively out to get u in the beginning where u could see her but the narrative wanted to suddenly swap it up and be like 'look at akechi' BITCH ITS TOO LATE. especially bc it was already done better with adachi like you cannot do that twist again it was too good! there was build up! i havent talked abt it much but the way persona 5 is set up with it being an interrogation that purposefully hides a bunch of stuff from the audience was really good to get you into the game but made other things less impactful SUCH AS AKECHI. which is a shame bc the set piece of the casino was amazing but as a character and as a narrative foil akechi fell short hes truly just an ugly low rent version of naoto and adachi mixed together w a predictable sob story back story like boooooooo booooooooooooooooo you'll never be the persona 3 betrayal!

this ask is from *checks date* july 6 2022 and I never did this for either character but honestly i love goro so much that the format barely even works for him and everyone already knows how i feel abt him so i'm just gonna do sumire 1 year late

What I like about them

Her conflict with her sister is sooo compelling and just fucks as a character concept it's so good. The way she erases herself from existence because she wants to be her sister so bad...the way she doesn't want her sister back, she just wants to become her...it's so tasty and angsty and hrghh. And as a foil to Akechi she works soooo well it makes me a 100k+ word fic kind of mentally ill.

What I dislike about them

Her idolization of Akira is never called out by the narrative and it really bothers me because it is literally the exact same problem she had with overly identifying herself with Kasumi but we're supposed to find it cute because it's romantic. There is a version of their relationship that is healthy, and the game wants you to think that's what they have, but that's a little hard to believe when her Metaverse outfit is literally identical to his. I like shusumi and I do think it's cute...but only in theory. Sumire needs to be his equal, and as it stands she just isn't.

Favorite moment

When she goes absolutely apeshit berserk on Akira and Akechi and nearly succeeds in killing them because she wants so desperately to become her sister.

Least favorite moment

Her true awakening to Cendrillion has never and will never sit with me quite right. I don't like that Kasumi is still her Persona. Symbolically, Kasumi is still her mask, and that just doesn't work when her arc is all about finding her own identity? And eventually Sumire realizes that she can be herself while also honoring her sister, but she's just not there in her arc yet. Sumire needs a Persona that is herself before she can have a Persona that is symbolic of the memory of Kasumi living on inside her. I really wish Sumire had gotten her own Persona that wasn't symbolically her sister. She deserves to represent herself and have an identity all her own.

A situation with this character that I want to see explored more

Just...everything with Sumire and Akechi, honestly. God. There is so much potential in the way the two of them contrast each other that goes completely unexplored and it's such a shame. They could be besties (or more) in another life. And...I do get why we don't get sumigoro friendship in canon, because Akechi is barely in a place to talk to Akira during third sem, let alone this girl who reminds him of all his own worst problems, but god. Imagine it. They could be so good.

An interesting AU for this character

I have an AU concept that involves Kasumi more than it does Sumire, but it lives rent free in my mind and I've been looking for a chance to post about it, so. here.

Kasumi fails to save Sumire. She blames herself for her sister's death--it's her job as the eldest to protect her little sister; she ran into that road because of how Kasumi made her feel. She has a mental breakdown over it, becoming suicidal. Kasumi is sent to therapy under Maruki and admits that she's always envied her younger sister. Kasumi loves gymnastics, but lately it's become nothing but pressure and stress, and she can't even enjoy it anymore. Kasumi may be the champion, but that also put so much pressure on her that she never knew quite how to handle. If she doesn't win every meet she doesn't think she'd be able to live with the shame. All she is are the trophies--no one truly values her for herself, and they shouldn't, since she's a failure and a fraud. But unlike Kasumi, as the younger sister, Sumire never had that same pressure to be the very best. Sumire doesn't have the pressure of being the perfect older sister who has it all together.

Kasumi put up a strong front as a defense mechanism, but inwardly struggled to connect and understand Sumire like she should have. And now her sister is dead, because of her. Because she was too stupid to realize how she was hurting her.

She wishes she could be Sumire. Maybe then she could relax and be happy. Maybe then people wouldn't put so much pressure on her to always succeed. Maybe then her sister's death wouldn't be her fault.

And so Maruki actualizes Kasumi to become Sumire.

at number 9 we have the one and only kunikazu okumura!

probably the most predictable outcome, but can you blame me when he has an atrocious palace design, terrible writing as a character both in that arc and in haru's confidant, unsavoury memories of a certain cat... i mean, it wasn't really kuni's fault that morgana ended up stealing haru's spotlight to have his moment, but the writers know what they did

okumura's saving grace is that 1) he has enough backstory provided for me to do whatever i want with him in rsau and 2) he's pretty handsome

now don't get me wrong, i love kaneshiro. i think about him allllll the time and he's THE bro in rsau (i can't go a second without mentioning it sorry) and also suguru's implied romantic interest cough cough

playing through his palace was tedious and longwinded and dull when it wasn't plot-related. the whole "oh, kaneshiro and madarame actually knew shido and were sucking his dick the whole tiiiime" thing is also completely unnecessary and never gets mentioned again. nobody even talks about it. you probably didnt even remember it until i mentioned it again

shido is still cartoonishly evil like okumura is, but he gets bonus points for not trying to be made into a sympathetic, hard-working and misunderstood dad in akechi's confidant (and at least we actually get to see him show feelings towards things, even if it is just hating children and monologuing in his office)

also hes kiiiiiiiiiind of the tritagonist in cnau but we aren't going to talk about that.... yet..............

i really like the twist on the concept of palace rulers actually. not every person with distorted desires is a bad person; instead of sabotaging others, futaba is self-sabotaging. but with a change of heart, that little shut-in is able to get back up and live life to the fullest!

madarame thinks hes only worth what he creates, and being yusuke's only authoritative figure, imprinted that mindset and behaviour onto him. he actually sees yusuke as his son and loves him deeply but hes soooo dependent on him in multiple ways and without him he literally crumbles. madarame is pathetic and helpless and i love him

you know her. i know her. we've seen that section of the story. soooo good. banger palace theme, pretty environment, attractive lady, hoo-wee!

seriously, she has great development. sae never actually gets a change of heart, she changes on her own because she remembers she's here to protect what she really cares about; justice. she comes to be one of the few adults the phantom thieves can genuinely place their trust in. theres a bonus chapter in mementos mission where sae looks at buchimaru slippers because they remind her of makoto. and thats after she roundhouse kicks a purse-snatcher in the face while wearing high heels.

she's also the one who won the hottest palace ruler poll by a longshot so. you go girl!

and at long last... number 1 goes to......

SUGURU KAMOSHIDA!!!!!!!

i wanted to get a bunch of pictures of him for this but he's actually so hideous i legitimately got freaked out

he's my meow meow who did nothing wrong (he did everything wrong) and hes just a baby (literal abuser) and youre all just mean (he deserves worse)

they wanted to write a piece of shit and they did it. and they did it well. i can't think of a single reason why someone would like this guy. and thats exactly why i like him.

kamoshida was conditioned to believe that his actions had no consequences and therefore he could do whatever he wanted. people would cover it up. they'd keep their silence. his reputation is great enough that everyone is too worried to topple it because it might crush them when he falls. he doesn't need to be two-faced when they've already seen the other mask. hes the greatest introductory to the story and themes of persona 5 ever and i would not have it any other way

kamoshida is a SHIT BAG. he makes me legitimately sick to my stomach in a way the other characters just dont really do. i mean the mementos palace did a pretty good job of making me think about what im doing with my life so props to them, but like i said just looking at kamoshidas face made me feel uneasy

also i wrote a oneshot about him and kaneshiro fucking and there was the swag mention of the lingering guilt he experiences in the back of his mind every time he hurts someone because he is still a human after all

he's the protagonist in rsau and he's my favourite test subject for different kinds of pain and anguish. suguru kamoshida numba one 4eva. i hope he dies

i implied in my akechi post that i was playing persona 5 BUT i never said that a month or so ago i started persona 4 which i play whenever the tv is being used . crazy girl era is real

anyways this was all to say that the overall gameplay features in p5 are excellent i really like the palaces especially however compared to 4 the characters leave soooooo much to be desired i think they are the weakest of the last 3 games, including protagonist, party members and social links/confidants

since this is my first gameplay of p4 im having a hard time tackling which social links to leave for a future new game plus playthrough as i have to spend time leveling up my social stats but it never felt like i had that problem in p5 and would instead spend time with the stats necessary for my preferred confidants (i mean not like i didn't make a huge effort leveling up my expression stat in 4 for the nanako and dojima links but you get my point). i cried in a bunch of the social links and i find them all genuinely interesting (besides the 2 previously mentioned which are the only i have completed so far are the yumi ozawa/drama club member and single mom links which i think are soooo good) while in 5 i did feel emotional in some but only in the last link i've been crying in a lot of the others since at least halfway through lol. also the majority of the confidants in 5 that aren't party members follow the pattern of making you change someone's heart in mementos which feels lazy and cheap because it's not like you can solve everyone's problems by changing some person's heart. it feels like you are just solving everyone's problems (in a way that gets tiring also) instead of helping them go through a hard moment/give them comfort. there are a lot of confidants that i only want to level up for certain levels because of the abilities they offer you instead of genuine interest. in 4 other than with your party members you cannot gain new abilities so what will end drawing you to them is mainly the characters (or the fusion bonuses)

as for the party members i can see the p4 gang all being friends which helps that banting aside they all show concern for one another + the fact they hang out for silly moments beyond celebrating finishing a mission/welcoming new members. this is besides the different dynamics inside the group and the protag'a different relationship with each of them. however i don't get that sense of friendship in 5? like i don't think these guys would be friends as a group after they stop being phantom thieves and i can only see joker being individual friends with ryuji, ann, futaba and mayyybe yusuke (they still cannot compare to the better dynamics in 3 and 4 though). also as a group dynamic i could only see it with the madarame gang the additions afterward don't feel as close by as a group? plus the convos they have barely make me think they even like each other that much. i think this problem in 5 affected ultimately my feelings on morgana leaving temporarily because it never really hit me where that could have come from even when they started to imply morgana felt useless around the group

as for the protags i know they are all overall meant to be self insert but p4 protag feels like the one who has the most personality. they allow him to be silly, kind and get the "short end of the stick" at times while still having this cool aura around him. joker feels too much like a self insert character meant to be smart and hot and cool etc so guys can pretend to be him. i think something that affected this is how you barely ever get joker's thoughts in the game as morgana kind of works as his consciousness

anyways this is it so far lol as you can see i have a lot of thoughts on the games. i don't think p5 is bad or that you can't love it but its strongest element imo is ultimately what interests me the least i'm all for character driven stories baby ❤ ryuji still *logan roy voice* my number one boy though

aside from the obvious (akechi x his m*t* s**t*), i don’t like the harucouple. i find their story pretty bland tbh, and i just find miou plain unlikeable.

questionable 10cm anime aside (‘cuz seriously, what was up with miou in that anime? she found out that chiaki died [from unrelated causes] after he saved her from drowning, and then proceeded to blame herself for his death??? even though akechi was like “ay girl his death ain’t your fault, so chill ok?” she just went ahead and made chiaki’s death all about herself, distanced herself from haruki with no explanation, then slapped him when he got all depressed and had an existential crisis that came about because she ignored him? like whaaaaat) the fact that miou is just too dang passive is pretty annoying. m

How would you change Makotos character if you got to write Persona 5?

Anon you just activated my trap card, aka me talking about Makoto for 5 hours. I love this girl and Atlus did her soooo dirty.

Okay so I’d keep Makoto’s initial arc where she joins the phantom thieves as is. It needs no changes. Watching her character go from an obstruction to a sympathetic figure to finally a member of the team is the best way to endear the player (and me) to her.

Where I’d start making changes is the social link. I know rank 10 sucks but I think the whole thing needs an overhaul. It hardly focuses on her as a character and only focuses on her new friend. I’m sorry Seiko fans, I like her, but she’s not supposed to be the focus. Makoto is. So what I’d make it focused on? Finding a path for her. Makoto starts out wanting to enjoy herself and be a kid but then sees she got a worse grade than usual on a test and flips out saying it’s because she has no ambition and looks for a new goal on a quest. She ends up finding nothing and comes to the conclusion it’s okay to take her time and be happy because she’s only going to be young for so long so she should enjoy it.

Now. Sae’s palace… (puts my hands together and sighs) Makoto had no reason to be an extra in Sae’s palace. Yes it was supposed to be Akechi’s spotlight, but Makoto is Sae’s sister. She has spent so long trying to live up to Sae’s expectations and feeling beaten down and useless because of her. She is watching her sister, corrupted, and seeing the very system she works for, the court of law, as a gambling ring where it’s all rigged in her favor aka it’s all rigged that she’ll send innocent people to jail. It should be a significant moment to her. It should also be significant that Akechi is there because Makoto and Akechi have tension. Akechi is the child Sae is always with at work. Sae takes Akechi out for sushi, while she’s at home studying. Akechi has a close relationship to Sae. Makoto should be showing resentment, or maybe a sense of wanting to be like him, trying to imitate, or frustrated that he’s taking the strategizing role. Sae’s palace should be Makoto’s defining moment where she stands up to her sister and asserts her worth to her, as well as have her realize the phantom thieves don’t love her because she gives out strategies but just for her.

After Sae’s palace I’d show Makoto and Sae having a one on one talk. I’m gonna be honest and say I don’t really like Sae very much, but if we’re going by the same story beats, Makoto should at least get a sincere apology, since that was like, nowhere in the game. Maybe Sae plants if in Makoto’s head that she could take the opposite path of her and be a defense attorney, and thus the two of them begin to heal their broken relationship by studying law together.

(Also if this was my story she would smooch Ann but I’m going for realistic expectations here)

First of all, thank you for all the compliments!! You made my heart fly out of my chest but that’s okay <3 I appreciate you!

As for my shuake hcs, I think I covered a few of those on a different post but I’ll cover them again and add some more:

I like to think that they got together after the aquarium date. I think it was Akechi’s plan to lure Ren into a false sense of security by “dating him.” Even though this was part of his plan, he actually end up falling for Ren anyway (because of how lovely and sweet Ren treated him). Besides that, I think the story continues as canon until the third semester where they OBVIOUSLY get back together. They definitely kissed in the laundromat no doubt about it.

As for the little things—and Akechi doesn’t like to admit it—he loves the little touches Ren gives him. It could be holding his hand or brushing his hair behind his ear or anything of the sort. He loves it but of course he acts like he doesn’t because he’s an asshole. Ren sees through this, obviously. Ren’s smile MELTS Akechi. His face turns red every time and he has to physically remove himself from the situation in order to calm down. My mans is head over HEELS for his attic trash.

Ren enjoys everything about Akechi. The nickname he uses for him is “honey” because that’s actually canonical and I love it. Ren, of course, gets flustered by Akechi often but he’s much better at suppressing it. He flirts to no end and acts surprised when Akechi pulls the trigger (hehe) and kisses him so he’ll stop.

Let me tell you, Crow thinks Joker is soooo hot it’s like crazy how many times the PTs tell him to “keep it in his pants.” Joker takes full advantage of this and ramps up the charm to max. This usually ends with Joker and Crow branching off to “look for the next safe room.” Thank god Joker has a high collar ;)

If I think of any more I’ll edit this post because I have SO many ideas :)

Sumire. She's so good! I honestly really enjoyed her arc, what can I say, I love an identity crisis. I also really enjoy the way her bubbliness bounces off of Akechi's grouchiness and that she seems to understand his tough love (maybe he reminds her of her coach?) Also like, I dunno, I feel like I extra have to love her to make up for the people who bitch about the fact that she wasn't a FeMC option :T

Morgana is Protagonist's best friend, and I will die on this hill. He's one of the smartest phantom thieves, he's adorable, he's the one who made sure they didn't accidentally do a murder... I think it's a shame that people some people try to call him annoying or try to act like he's like a "kid" compared to the other PT. I've seen people try to be like "it was weird that his human self in the 3rd semester was older!!!" and it's like dude he's a peer, just because he's stuck being an adorable cat doesn't mean that he doesn't yearn to be a strapping badass!

Hi Lav !! Yes you did understand correctly, I actually finished it a couple weeks ago !!  And there is nothing I would like more than to discuss it with you ! I need to evacuate all the thoughts about this game and how much I loved it bxhzdsc

Everything is under the cut ! I got a bit carried away and I’m sorry, I hope it’s not too long to read !

Were do I even start ?? I think one of my very first thoughts when I started playing was "why are they giving guns to kids ???" because I didn't know that they were fake guns in real life 

Now having to choose a SINGLE favorite character is very hard, but honestly it’s definitely Akechi. I got attached to him so fast it’s crazy, he is an amazing character, and nothing hurted me more than this terrible scene in Shido’s palace that was SO unfair for both Akechi and Joker I I'm still not over it dghsdzvdh the unfortunate thing is that I knew that Akechi wasn't really an ally in the story at first, so I don't really get the betrayal effect when we learn that he was faking it all along (in Sae's palace I mean), but ! I didn't really know how the events were going to unfold so I still got to experience the plot twists and the pain (hah) and I still enjoyed the moments when you have to raise the rank of his confidant, they were all very interesting ! But during the rank 8 interaction (I think it’s this one) where you have to fight him, -which is something I really didn’t want to do-, AND after the fight he has the AUDACITY to say “I’m going to be entirely honest with you : I hate you” and that really took me off guard gsvhsjc and I could talk soooo much more about Akechi and his relationship with Joker and how I wish we could have seen a bit more of his true self and not the ‘Prince detective’ or the ‘I don’t care about you or the others my soul is black just like my outfit’ mask he puts on but this is already getting long, so maybe for a next time :) But really I loved all of the characters very, very much, with a soft spot for Yusuke, Futaba (precious little sister hgdchdg), Sumire (her story was... very, very painful), morgana, and Sojiro too !! All the characters are very well written, I love them all very much <3

My favorite palace ? Well that’s a hard question too haha, I really liked Okumura’s palace for some reason ?? I think it’s a really cool palace ! the music is very different from other palaces, and I like the futuristic/space aspect very much, but I had such a hard time on the final fight that I hold a grudge against it (only because I was very stupid and didn’t understand that I needed to kill all four robots at once. So I was stuck for a long time). In the end, all Palaces have their own ambiance and I liked each one for different reason, but for the best one for me was Madarame’s Palace, along with Yususke’s story. I loved the whole vibe of this Palace, there’s something very strange and captivating about empty galleries and museums I think, and it was perfectly portrayed here ! And if you add to that the soundtrack and the backstory, it gives us something that is both captivating and disturbing at the same time, I absolutely love it ! I also think that the whole concept of having to manage your time was really well done in this arc ! You know, when you have to go back to the reality to unlock a new path in the Metaverse, I would have liked to have experienced more of this in other parts of the story haha (special mention for the memento’s palace that made me super anxious and sad because of the ambiance I loved it a lot) 

And here are some of my favourite soundtracks from this game, all of which were incredible, I'm not going to elaborate here on why I'm in awe of them, otherwise it will never end </3

i read a fanfic that included a he/him lesbian joker that was confidants with Lala and i have not been able to stop thinking about it. he/him butch autistic joker means So Much to me actually…. he cannot compare!! i usually think of joker as ftm but i also like mtf as well!! a lot of my headcanon is self projection for akira though so ftm is usually what you might see haha. he prefers masculine terms and style, but im not sure if he would cross dress or how he would fuck up gender exactly. but know this: he is not cis and never will be! he’s a girl in a boy way and he’s attracted to other masc+feminine people. only those who are queer pass jokers test (hence the phantom thieves haha)

i also think that akechi would learn to fuck up gender more as he becomes integrated into the thieves friend group. he doesnt see himself as any gender in particular but he does lean more towards form-fitting clothes, which happens to be a lot of feminine clothing! i think he does this because he made himself wear boxier/baggy clothes to appear more friendly towards the public and less menacing. after he gets revenge on shido, he feels more free to wear what he wants, so he tries a lot of tight clothes! the petticoat is an exception, he’s worn it for too long and its a comfort item now.

also, i think akechi wouldnt mind being referred to with any pronouns, so long as it is done out of respect. he uses he/him pronouns to refer to himself more frequently out of habit, but also uses pronoun sets such as ae/aer, she/her, it/its, and crow/crowself if youre cool

What is the godhunter au? Is godhunter like... some other thing? Idk what it means but it looks cool and im into

aaaa ok so!! the godhunter au is about yaldabaoth as his gnostic counterpart, meaning he was the one that created the material universe. however, his plane of existence is much like mementos, where human thoughts and desires impact him in return - he sees its deterioration as reflective of the failure of humanity and because of it, he begins to contemplate wiping the slate clean in order to attempt a new creation. but before he commits to this (making a whole universe is a LOT of work!!!), he decides instead to create akira, a being half god and half human, in order to help yaldabaoth understand humanity a bit better. akira turns out to be nothing like his other servants - far from the robotic angels that carry out his orders, akira is vibrant, changeable, and has strong opinions of his own, using his unique position to make a strong case for humanity. yaldabaoth grows attached to him quite quickly and he becomes a child to him, saving the universe as it is by not only helping his father understand his own creations more thoroughly, but also because if yaldabaoth wanted to start anew...everything would have to be undone, including the son he now cares for so deeply.

however, as yaldabaoth sets aside his own plans of destruction, humanity has proven the existence of god...and they wish to revolt against him as a he is seen as a cruel, callous being. all of the suffering that exists, all of the pain and brutality in the world, are placed on yaldabaoth, a ruler who, at best, seems not to care how much his own creations are subjected to. because of this, the godkiller project is launched, meant to create, train, and prepare those with potential to destroy an entity powerful enough to create the entire world. goro akechi is the ultimate end of that project, a perfected weapon against god himself, and he is sent into mementos in order to assassinate yaldabaoth and allow humans to take over his plane. upon his arrival, however, mementos is abandoned, yaldabaoth's shrine empty as he and akira have escaped into the human world to hide themselves in a bid to outlast this rebellion. yaldabaoth sees it as the only option, not willing to eliminate all of his creation regardless of the threat they pose now as akira would be collateral damage. so from that point forward, akira and yaldabaoth live in the real world, the former keeping an eye on humanity (and actually very much enjoying a normal human life) while the latter needs to stay hidden due to "human" form being a BIT too conspicuous (he should be the holy grail in reality, but he keeps his human form to look after akira as the grail is inert, without thoughts or sensations).

aaaand the events of the au develop from there!! akira makes friends with the phantom thieves by helping them with the same issues they face in the game, he and goro fall in love without knowing who the other is, and yaldabaoth slowly grows ill due to his human form poisoning him. it's not really based on anything, i just,,,,really wanted a reason to use a human yaldabaoth design for a story AND i very much wanted an au that explored the relationship between yaldabaoth and goro, actually. i just think their interactions would be really interesting, absolutely knowing how to needle each other but how to leave the other thinking and possibly make them reconsider their opinions. BUT that was really long djfghdfg i have a post here that details all of my aus (including a bit more on this one), so check that out if you like!!!
