#but it’s more of a heavier realistic drama

watched yan oda- it’s not well written or anything, not gonna be the next best dizi, but it checks all the boxes of a dramatic, flashy dizi that usually gets pretty good ratings, warring families from different backgrounds all under one house, domineering matriarch, forbidden love trope (step siblings), love triangle (lowkey a love square based off this first ep). It seems like a dizi you can get exhausted by very quickly, but the couple has pretty good chemistry and im kinda excited to see them develop. Ratings might not come through tho bc i think audiences are tired of this type of dizi (esp from dizis from ogm production)
watching korkma ben yanındayım- this one is much better written and seems to have a more solid, grounded story. A good, studious girl with her whole future ahead of her finds out she’s pregnant. And the father of her child is the son of their school’s director. She comes from a poor background and her family sacrifices a lot to put her through school to complete her dreams of becoming a doctor. Obviously the baby daddy comes from a rich background and his father is harsh, cold, and abusive. They have a bit of forbidden love/star crossed lovers going on as well, they don’t show much of them in this first episode, but they could have potential. I think the main draw of this dizi is the warmth of the girl’s family and seeing how the pregnancy will affect them. It seems like one of those dizis that will slowly pick up in ratings, and I’ve seen a lot of positive reactions on twitter. It is on (formerly) Fox tho and we all know how they are.

bitty is a deeply flawed individual, and it takes him a lot longer to grow and mature than it takes jack. let's discuss.
bitty is our narrator, so we see the world through his eyes. this makes every other character's flaws much more present to us. jack's flaws are basically the first thing we learn about him - but jack's flaws being addressed is also one of the first storylines in the comic. jack has to mature and handle his issues for the romantic storyline to even begin.
bitty is not a gary stu protagonist. bitty has a lot of complexities (restlessness, procrastination and executive dysfunction being common ADHD symptoms, which are hard to live with when undiagnosed), but his main character flaws are fear of confrontation, passive-aggression and self-sacrifice.
these flaws are easy to overlook on a daily basis, and sometimes they even present as "good" qualities (he's an extraordinarily caring friend, and he puts everyone's needs before his own), but the moment he enters a romantic relationship this becomes a huge problem.
dating someone who won't tell you when something is bothering them is incredibly difficult, especially when you have anxiety. it leads to mistrust (you ask them if everything's okay and when they say yes you know they're lying) and emotional distance (you open up and rely on them but they won't do the same). not knowing if/when something is wrong, and thus not being able to fix it, is a huge trigger for anxiety disorders. plus, a lack of fighting is not actually a good thing in relationships. fighting is the way to bring up issues and find common ground in order to solve them. no confrontations = no solving.
often in pop culture, once a relationship is established, you know the drama is coming. writers need to keep things interesting to keep the audience engaged. hi honey's blog post makes it clear that ngozi knew this, and for only a second baits the readers with the possibility of a break up, but the drama actually comes from a much more genuine and realistic source: bitty needs to own up to his problems, and needs to learn to face them and openly communicate them to his partner, and needs to learn to accept confrontation as a way to solve these problems, or he and jack are simply going to break up. just as we wouldn't expect bitty to date jack if jack hadn't handled his issues, jack can't date bitty if bitty doesn't handle his own.
the beautiful thing about this (and the thing many readers seemingly missed), is that hi honey isn't even about coming out. bitty's main problem isn't being unable to tell people he's dating jack; that's a secondary problem that they solve by giving bitty a safe place where he can be honest with his close friends. bitty's main problem is that he spent six months carrying the weight of his isolation alone, without opening up to jack about it, which only served to make him feel more helpless and more alone. this put a much heavier burden on their relationship than being closeted did.
in conclusion: hi honey is, much like playoffs/banquet for jack in year 1, the comic where bitty's character arc comes to its first peak, and is an important and necessary milestone.

Can we get yandere france headcanons? if you do yandere i mean, no pressure if you don't :)
This takes place in an au since I find it kind of hard to slot the yandere stuff in canon I personally don't see the appeal with Yandere stuff, but this shit is so fun to write, it like a crime drama, so if you want it, I'll deliver lol
TW// I did not soften this, he's a manipulative stalker who's enamored with you and I treated it as such, so this could potentially be triggering for those who have been in a controlling/abusive relationship, if you feel you could be affected negatively by reading that, please do not read it, your mental health is far more important than Tumblr likes
Yandere France Headcanons
He's very idealistic and sees the best in the object of his affection
He sees you as a perfect, delicate flower to be protected and admired, he believes you can do no wrong and puts you on a pedestal high above everyone else, you are his petit(e) ange
In his mind, you two are together, and have been for a while, in a passionate whirlwind of mutual attraction, love, and romance
He swept you off your feet from the very first day he saw you in his little corner café and ever since then, you two have been madly in love
Realistically, you've only had some light surface level conversation with him, asking him about his day while you order a drink and pastry
François' coffee and pastry shop, named Fleur de Café, is place you visit rather regularly, the cozy vibe and aesthetically pleasing food and drinks make it the perfect place to study or do work, especially since the nice, pretty owner has the habit of giving you extra baked goods (which he started doing the third time you came in)
When you visit the cafe, he often compliments things like your smile, your outfit, and your makeup (if you wear any), he comes off as very genuine and unassuming
If you off handedly express that you're looking for a job, he would jump at the chance to offer you an interview, keeping it under the guise of simply "helping one of his sweetest, most loyal costumers"
He would be over the moon if you agreed, using the opportunity to get to know you more, learning more about you; like your hobbies, interests, dislikes, and the details of your private life
Because he views you as flawless, he would be incredibly shocked if he found out you did anything that differed from his dreamy, fantasy view of you
Any bad habits like smoking, drinking, or doing drugs would leave him astounded, anything 'heavier' would make him completely speechless
While you may think this could potentially be a dealbreaker for him, he views any behaviors that don't fit in his picturesque view (including if you were to turn down his advances) as minor hiccups in the road to your beautiful relationship, minor things that can be worked around
If you were to fall into his rose scented trap and begin a relationship, he would seem like the perfect partner, always showering you with compliments and gifts and taking you out on frequent dates
Pretty early on he would offer to let you move in, he gets lonely without you after all, so your constant company would be wonderful
Suddenly you find yourself spending less and less time with family and friends, the majority of your time would be spent around your wonderful boyfriend
While he might be an obsessive stalker, he doesn't view it that way in the slightest and wholeheartedly believes that whatever the two of you have is a healthy, nurturing relationship
He would never use force against you and would get incredibly defensive if anyone implied otherwise
No, instead he would use his charisma and charm (Read: manipulation) clouded in flowery words to keep you by his side and reliant on him
You can't find your phone? He will help you look for it when he's done with this croissant batch, you're so silly for constantly misplacing it, why don't you help him in the meantime?
You're upset that he doesn't want you to leave the house today? Well, it's a dangerous world out there, he's just protecting you, how about you go out with him tomorrow when he needs to go grocery shopping?
He's being too overbearing? Ange, he loves you, how could you say something so hurtful like that to him?
Any issue you have about his behavior, he'd wave it off, insisting that he just cares about you so much, and clearly he does, he's done so much for you
Some people would describe the way he loves you as "overbearing" or "dangerous", but he just likes to call it devoted

What are those two that you consider" gay anime for gay men about gay men"?
ok it's actually 4 if you count movies. idk if you asked this for like, reccomendation reasons or not? but just in case i'll try to give a quick summary
IN MY HUMBLE BUT CORRECT OPINION yuri on ice was always good and gay some of you guys are just weak. i don't know what to say about yoi without spoiling most of the story BUT LIKE. it's got actual sports drama and insight from a professional competitive view. it's got a depressed, insecure mc whose mental health is deteriorating BECAUSE Sports Are Hell and it's presented in a very realistic way. the main duo are both in their mid-20s which is neat, and their dynamic is SO FASCINATING no matter how you interpret it. so far the only show i've watched i'd label as "gay subtext" but in yknow, a legitimate and satisfying way instead of a cheap way. the development of the main duo's relationship is just as relevant to the story as the competitive skating part
GIVEN!!!!! ough. given......there's even less i can say about this one without spoling literally everything. THIS ONE IS /A GAY ROMANTIC DRAMA/ that's just the genre. but what really makes it special to me is how seriously it takes itself. since it's also a story about a band rising to fame, the "drama" aspect comes from both the romance And from the typical friend-group infighting that every band story has lol. it also deals with some surprisingly heavy topics like suicide, trauma, child abuse AND HOMOPHOBIA, and it handles everything in SUCH a mature way. if you can swallow the heavier themes then it's a really sweet and empowering story. ALSO it gets bonus points for only having the first 2 protags out of 4 be teenagers, the other 2 are grown college students.
I'M JUST GONNA LIST BOTH MOVIES RQ: "doukyuusei/classmates" and "umibe no étranger/the stranger by the shore". they're both kind of an acquired taste and they're more fluffy and wholesome than the shows i listed above, but i enjoyed them :]

I try to keep a (mostly) upbeat and fun blog. I reblog things I like, things I find interesting or thought-provoking, cute, fun, horny, yadda yadda. I try to keep heavier topics to a minimum. Not absent, I do reblog politics and news and discussion on main, but I'm trying to cultivate a specific atmosphere and I desperately want to keep it from being more bleak than fun. And I really try to keep my nose out of drama and discourse as much as possible. I don't want to attract harassment. And I definitely almost never post my own thoughts on any given thing. I think there're too many better spoken people who make the same points better than I ever could. I'm just a fly on the wall, and I've been fine with that. But right now I'm fuckin mad.
You've probably already seen me reblog what's up a bunch. Or you're about to scroll down and find out. I'd apologize but honestly, who knows how much longer it would have been before this was too much to be quiet about.
I've been here 11 years. I'm not going to leave. I'm not going to willingly give this up. I've found a sense of community, even if I am not a terribly active participant. The sheer amount of trans joy and self expression, it's been everything to me as someone coming to terms with being transfem and what that means to me over the last year and change. Through the experiences of others like me, I have found joy and peace in my identity.
I'm watching this community get shredded up in live time. I've been watching it boil up to this point for months. Predstrogen deserves better, and I hope she's able to find her footing again, even if it has to be elsewhere. Same for every trans woman or supporter who's ever been nuked or run off this site or ever will be.
Realistically though, it's going to get worse before it ever has a chance of getting better and I want it out there, I will not leave willingly. Not unless this place really truly reaches a point beyond hope of safety. I've got other places I'm at, but this has been a home to me for over a decade and I don't want to lose it so easily. So I'm here adding my voice to the chorus. Hopefully, all of this means something.

I get why it's easier to assume the worst since we haven't gotten anything good for months but I think there is a very solid chance that Upstead will be just fine whether Tracy stays on the show or not.
They know how popular Upstead is so I'd like to think that under these circumstances they would at least try to keep the fans happy. And when looking at everything that's been said on the show and in interviews, nothing straightly says that they're not gonna work out in the end. (Not even gonna account that stupid ring interview which was pure speculation from every party with zero facts, and the fact that it was el interview)
Looking at the show, there is no way Jay would be the one to end their relationship. He loves her a lot and promised her to come back and that they'd get through this. Sure he hasn't answered her calls and whatnot but there is a reason behind there. And Hailey loves Jay too despite everything. I doubt that her life would get any easier or less heavier if just decided to call it off. Their thing runs deep. For her, it's just finding about the middle ground to walk on until he gets home whatever that may be. But I don't believe giving up on them is an option for her even though she most likely feels betrayed and angry right now. He is her world and vice versa. This is a place of growth for both of them in different ways. (Though how would we even know what she feels and how she's been handling it when we haven't seen anything since 10x12)
Then the interviews. They've talked a lot about Hailey having to handle things on her own and learn to live by herself and live without her anchor. They haven't said ever straightly or even implied that they'd be finished in my opinion. Hardships for sure but nothing definite. And something that stuck to me was when in one the interviews was said that 'they hope fans keeps loving this couple'. I've always looked it as a little strand of hope. They know Upstead's journey, how loved they are so their first mission wouldn't be to break them up now. It would do no good on anyone.
They are just using Upstead as a drama factor just like they do every goddamn season. They know how many people care about them, so using them for drama is worth it in their eyes. Keeping the viewers engaged or whatever even though in reality no one likes it and even less this season when we've been put through ringer. But that seems to be quality tv in their eyes.
If Tracy stays, there is as good chance as any to have Upstead stay married offscreen and bringing Jay home at some point. He'll be working somewhere else in Chicago and not shown onscreen. We'll get some talk from Hailey during her episodes to keep them alive and have that ring on her finger. And we'll keep watching different ways to put Hailey through the ringer because that seems to also be a lovely way to write tv.
I'm just personally tired of the negativity. Show isn't giving anything so I try to look at the little good things and keep the hope alive until the show proves that there is no reason to do so.
(I apologize for this long thing. I've had months to look at this thing from every angle and I'm a bit passionate and obsessed about this matter lmao)
I think there are a couple different ways people are handling this all - prepping for the worst, being realistic given what we have seen and also being hopeful. There's no right or wrong answer in any of these scenarios and the show isn't giving us really any clear answers, rather just giving us more questions.
Don't take anything Emily gives us on Upstead as actual fact - she is a journalist who knows where the alliances are in the fandom, so she knows exactly what will get the fandom spinning, which in turn helps her article circulate and do well. I really, really, really don't like what she reports for the show.
I think there is a lot of truth to what you are saying - they've kept the ring on her for the most part and we haven't had any real update since 10x12. Hailey is just living in this odd limbo, and she can't do that forever. I do think eventually they are going to have to do a little bit more, the question is just when.
The writers love to put Hailey through the ringer - I think this is twofold - one she's a fan favorite so her episodes tend to do well and they know that - and two the fact that Tracy is a phenomenal actress and she can carry the heavier, emotional storylines. It's a perfect mix for them to consistently put Hailey through it. I mean, some of my favorite episodes are ones where Hailey is in a dark place, but that's because I am floored by Tracy's performance, you feel me? (I am not saying this is an excuse for why they continue to do it , I am just saying I can see why they do it. It's the same thing with Marina and Kim - she continually knocks it out of the park with the heavier, deeper, Kim storylines, while also being a fan favorite.)
I don't really know what they are going to do with Upstead, I am sort of in the middle of being realistic and managing expectations but also somewhat hopeful. Though it does vary per day. There's really no right or wrong answer here, I think it's just dependent per person and how they feel about it.
We are all passionate and miss our ship and what the show used to be so we are all just processing and grieving as best we can.
Sorry it took me so long to answer, I have been working and wanted to answer on my computer not off my phone.
Hope you are doing well xoxo

AU Masterlist
Hello, and welcome to a post where I talk about the AUs that I have for my f/os. Yes I have never talked about any of these beyond vaguely mentioning a couple of them exist, but I wanted to have this list out here and idk, maybe this will make me actually talk about them. All of them are listed with the tag I'll use for talking about them, as well as a little bit of info!
This list will be updated as I end up coming up with more AUs! And if I ever make a fic or anything specific to these AUs, there'll be links added here to that
Divider source
Tumblr media
🦾 Modern AU 🌙
This is a pretty standard modern AU, taking place with more real world scenarios than usual for James and Helena. In it, James works at a high school, teaching woodshop and physics classes, and Helena is a therapist. With this being set in the real world, there are a couple more things that come up with it that don’t in rw.by. With no Faunus allegory for racism here, there’s more to touch on with James being half Taiwanese as well as Helena being whitepassing and a quarter Korean. The differences in technology also means that James’s prosthetics are more realistic than they are in his and Helena’s usual canon, and he also tends to use a cane or wheelchair more often to help with mobility
The main point of this AU is just having some nice domestic stuff with the access I need to more modern references. Also James gets to be more mentally healthy bcs he doesn’t have to feel like the whole world is on his shoulders (tho he does still have PTSD from his time in the military)
🦾 After the War 🌙
This is a canon divergent AU focused on Helena and James, with the main source of divergence being that Helena managed to pull James from the vault in Atlas and get him to safety in Vacuo before the kingdom was destroyed. She’s quick to advocate for him despite how most people would gladly see him thrown in a cell and never set free again, and through her and Winter, she’s able to basically get him a pardon at the cost of his rank, Huntsman license, and with the requirement for community service helping the Atlesian refugees as well as some mandated therapy
This is basically a happy ending AU for the two of them. James gets to go through the process of admitting his mistakes and finally accepting he needs help, and Helena doesn’t have to lose her husband. So it’s a win-win scenario for them and also everyone else
💫 Modern AU 🌙
A modern AU for Chae-Yeong and Helena. In this AU, Chae-Yeong quit running Vermeil Industries to focus on being a public defender, and Helena is a therapist. There’s similar ideas here behind what’s with James’s modern AU, with this being based around more real world scenarios and having more to say and do with Chae-Yeong and Helena both being whitepassing mixed white and Korean women. Chae-Yeong does still have sharper canines than average, though, just for me <3
There’s some nice domestic fluff to be had with this AU, and it allows me to make Helena and Chae-Yeong more obviously comic book nerds. Things are happier and a lot more stable, with Chae-Yeong having more space to work through some of her anger in ways that aren’t her regularly risking her life
💫 General Vermeil 🌙
In this AU, Chae-Yeong was the leader of her and James’s team— Team CHRI (cherry)— and she ended up becoming the general of Atlas because of that. This means that she never quit being a Huntress, and she never became the Scarlet Shepherd, which then also means that she has a lot of deeply buried issues that make it so she is in a much worse space than she usually is. But she and Helena are still together, and Helena can try to fix her wife as she goes further and further down a darker path.
Basically, this is the opposite of the Shepherd’s Delight modern AU bcs this one is heavier, with Chae-Yeong going along a path closer to James’s one in canon (tho not exactly bcs of Chae-Yeong’s strict morals playing into things). There’s drama, there’s love enduring through the chaos and hopelessness, and most importantly of all there is a hot morally questionable woman in the form of Chae-Yeong
🕷️ Modern AU 🕸️
Yet another fairly standard modern AU, with this also being an AU where there’s no powers for Piera or Miguel. Miguel is still working as a geneticist at Alchemax, but it’s more grounded now in the kind of stuff that would be current. Piera is also still a reporter, tho the articles that she writes are for an online news site. Lyla is Miguel’s neighbor in this AU, and Gabriella is still alive and living with Miguel, with him being his daughter from his former marriage with Xina, who’s now spending her time traveling the world
Once again, here’s an excuse for a more low stakes domestic environment with things. It also lets there be more stuff with Piera and Gabriella, so we get to have some cute family moments in there. Also this does allow things to be happier and just overall lighter than things usually are because Miguel and Piera aren’t having to worry about fighting supervillains and the multiverse collapsing
🧩 Partners in Crime 🗝️
The premise behind this is that Hoffman and Shepard are both Jigsaw apprentices. They met a long while before they did within what I considered to be their main canon, with them having met about ten years before they did within that. A unique thing with this AU is that the two of them are married in this (note in main canon, they’re just boyfriend and girlfriend). When Hoffman’s blackmailed into joining up with John, he ends up telling Shepard about that, and she ends up helping out because she doesn’t want to make him deal with everything alone
Basically, this is an evil lovers situation. They sure are executing a ton of people and Shepard’s compromising her moral values, but they looked hot doing it. Plus, this makes a lot of people’s traps more survivable, with Shepard making an effort to make them actually winnable. They’re criminals and they’re on the run together and they have a family, and also they will fuck you up if you try to expose or hurt the other
🧩 Role Swap 🗝️
In this AU, Shepard’s the detective who’s a serial killer undercover while Hoffman is an escape room designer who ends up helping her avoid being imprisoned for that. Shepard’s way of doing things with traps is very different from Hoffman’s, with hers being much more winnable and because of that she never strayed from John’s ideology enough to be considered a problem. But a Jigsaw survivor ends up putting the pieces together enough to expose her, which leads to her going on the run and being taken in by Hoffman, who’s convinced he can make her better (and also finds the whole serial killer thing sexy)
I’ll be honest, I don’t have a ton going on for this AU, but I think the concept is neat so I think it should exist. idk if it’ll ever be something I go deep into tho

🖤 She/her, +30, GTM+2, literate/novella writer here looking for longterm and well executed M/M BDSM themed plot lines to write out with a likeminded person, preferably +21.yo. I’m not looking for a quick release or fast ERP scenes, but a thread where the master and the sub create a real bond and practice the act with the right rules and with high intensity. How they get there and what happens along the way can be anything, even heavier themes with darker aspects as I am quite limitless. Modern, realistic and drama filled stuff desired. I love headcannoning, sharing inspo pics and overall vibing the characters constantly.
I have written S/M relationships for ten years, and I’m just generally interested of possession/control kind of dynamics between the characters. Right now, wish to write an interesting sub to a master that has context, and the character dynamics are important to me as we go on. I shy away from the ”bashful and innocent” or ”bratty” types of characteristics, and wish to create a character that you like to play against instead of offering stereotypes as they are not worth your time. Though I’m looking for a person that plays a master and they are usually in charge in scenes by design, the general idea it that equal effort is offered with the plot and writing itself. I’m also open to write the master role, so if you have an interesting character, please shoot it my way. Also doubling up is fine if we vibe. Currently just wishing to add more threads from the pet’s perspective as it seems to be hard to find people who stick with it. That being said, this is long term and hopefully we'll become friends along the way!
give a like and anon will get back to you

I started Never Let Me Go part 1 ep 1:
1. Oh my god they batmanned the main character immediately. No time wasting. Turning 18, loves his dad, setup to fulfill family legacy, just wants dad alive and proud of his dad? Dad shot in the RAIN WHILE EXITING
Screaming crying in the rain oh My god
Don't get me wrong, I loved it, I'm loving the setup, it's just WOW do u see it coming they got real quick to the point I love it
2. STAR STUDDED CAST at least 3 guys from The Gifted Graduation and I'm beyond hype about it, I'm absolutely over the moon. My favorite dude is in this I'm practically in tears <3 ;-;
3. For that matter, the vibes? Actually REALLY similar to The Gifted. More realism rather than sci fi, so like The Eclipse. But visually and tonally it's leaning FAR HEAVIER into serious plot like The Gifted with queer relationships IN it but not like the main point. The Eclipse balanced both a murder mystery political protest plot WITH some very ship style shot scenes of boys standing super close and flirting for the sake of a flirty scene, but a bit subverted in that Khaotung and all queer characters on the show were heavily clearly coded as queer men, khaotungs character as a femme queer man, and so those bl fluffy romance type cliches had a certain realism to them even when the cheesy usual music played. I expect THIS show is going to go the 3 Will Be Free route, where there's a main queer romance as a center point but it's not going to be presented too reliant on fluffy shippy they fell on each other and MUSIC SWELLED CUTESY scenes. Oh sure, they may share a shower or fall on each other for sure! But I think the romantic tropes will be handled in a more grounded way as a compliment/intensification to the plot and character romance rather than the vehicles that PUSH the romance and story to begin with. (Actually now thinking about it both The Eclipse AND GAP do a really good job using cutesy fluff tropes but as a compliment to a queer character focused story to like make me feel great I Get a gushy cute over the top scene while still feeling it makes logical sense for the story). So basically... I think tonally this show is going to be like Not Me and 3 Will Be Free and I'm SO HYPE FOR IT. It's my personal preference. I imagine it'll feel initially "slow" to some people, but for me it feels the intro episode is setting up and introducing the individual characters and arcs and themes and setup well which is a good strong opening. (GAP does this while also playing with cute tropes so you can do both if you want a slightly less heavy opening ep).
4. LOVE the visuals. Again, reminds me a LOT of The Gifted Graduation visually in color choices - it's more colorful like Moonlight Chicken, but there's also a lot of more muted looking color choices that remind me of The Gifted. That make the school feel realistic rather than rom com set (like I love Bad Buddy and I love its design choices but it also leans into the bright vivid visual style which is more sitcom and romcom then heavy drama palette). The color scheme is a lot more like The Eclipse, The Gifted, Girl From Nowhere, more muted and I'm hoping it's an indication we'll get some suspense and mystery in the story like other Thai shows that go for these kinds of visuals.
5. I'm happy to say it feels like it's own thing and not a kinnporsche knockoff. I definitely Want more gang grey moral character gay adventure stories even if they are heavily inspired by other stuff or not (I LOVE 3 will be free, manner of death, history 3 trapped, and am always happy for more thriller gay stuff). But when I initially heard this show premise I expected a mafia boss and bodyguard premise. While it may eventually evolve into that setup.... these initial characters are NOT like kinn and Porsche. They're 18 for one and both in the point of life of deciding life paths, which changes the whole trajectory wildly (and in this rare instance despite me not liking high school settings I like the choice... they're 18 truly about to go to college. And the premise reminds me of The Gifted so I imagine the transition of some innocence to no innocence and involved in the corruption of the world and reality fully and no longer being naive and needing to make hard decisions will be major themes in this. Or at LEAST feature at some point. And people becoming adults are a decent character choice for telling that kind of story.) I just like a Lot of the unique choices this shows opening with, I didn't expect a story this thought out and I'm excited
And I'm only done with ep 1 part 1!!! I'm hype

Call It Love offers an extremely realistic depiction of damage parental figures can do by being immature and irresponsible. That's an understatement, but let's stay polite...
Now that my impressions have set, since I do need more time to process my thoughts about anything, I'm glad a drama series like this one exists. Even though the focus of the show switches from stream of consciousness to love plot between the first leads, there's still a lot we can learn about all of the characters, no matter how much (or little) screen time they actually have got. I won't go into plot summary or character analysis, there's plenty of that all around the internet already.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is eye-opening, if the viewer keeps the initial problem Call It Love addresses in mind: parents of different families uniting in destroying their own families' lives (which they successfully accomplished). Personally, it opened my own childhood wounds (rather than my eyes).
With previous thoughts in mind, this is highly triggering content (not to all, ofc) and not only some romantic story about two people with problematic family backgrounds coming together. I would definitely not recommend this one for a random pastime. Content is very specific, thematic is heavy, characters have distinctive (realistic, unfiltered) personalities and this series, despite being filmed in an artistic way (+some weirdly soothing pink filter ♡), is on the heavier side.
Tumblr media
Now, seeing what other people write about this drama, my opinion is highly unpopular. Besides, I would definitely had dropped the drama if there weren't for second leads: Shim Hye-seong (FL's older sister) and Yoon-jun (FL's best friend), which is something one might not hear (read) very often, given the fact the older sister annoyed most of the Call It Love fan community.
In the end, it's up to viewers and their preferences, of course. We're all individuals who relate to different kinds of characters and respond to their pain in a non-uniform way. I tend to soak up characters' feelings as if they're my own, especially if depicted situations are similar to my personal experiences. That's why I don't respond well to certain content and will not necessarily recommend it to everyone, despite content being of high quality, which this series definitely is.

Pather Panchali (Song of the Little Road) (1955)
A father leaves his family in poverty as he looks for work.
First of a coming of age trilogy, the film is most engaging when following the young Apu as his reactions guide us through the difficulties of the family and help us understand the factors causing them, including the social rejection of neighbours until they’re already leaving and the scorn they receive for stealing food from bountiful trees to survive.
Many of the supporting characters are interesting, some kind but feeble, others mean, but the worst is the mother who blames her own children for seeking small mercies to their circumstances from taking fruit to seeing a train for the first time. There isn’t much of a lesson to learn, more just an understanding of hardship.
There’s some contrast between the heavier subject matter in the film such as poverty, illness, and death compared to the more childish drama like theft of a necklace which is later revealed as far less consequential once most of the action has been done. The focus is mainly on the small family which allows us to identify with them easily and we’re reasonably invested by the end.
Since a great deal of the subject matter is realistically presented and we follow the family over a fairly long time, the pace necessarily drags and at times resembles more a documentary. It’s tough work to watch, not for the weight of the themes but because there are long sequences where little seems to occur.
2/10 -It’s not THE worst, that’s something else. But…-
-Shot over a period of five years due to underfunding.

Day 65- Film: Ikiru
Release date: October 9th, 1952.
Studio: Toho
Genre: Drama/foreign
Director: Akira Kurosawa
Producer: Sojiro Motoki
Actors: Takashi Shimura, Miki Odagiri
Plot Summary: A middle-aged Japanese bureaucrat discovers he has stomach cancer and only has months to live. He confronts the fact that he hasn’t done anything meaningful with his life, and he uses the time he has left searching for ways to rectify it. He spends time with a hedonistic writer, tries to reconnect with his son, and forges a friendship with a bubbly co-worker.
My Rating (out of five stars): *****
I remember seeing this in a film class when I was in school, and it was one of those movies that seeped into my bones and made it hard to concentrate on other things for the rest of the day. I was curious to see how I would react to it again, years later. I think it hit with an even heavier punch now! It’s still a movie you need to take some time to recover from.
The Good:
The casting and the acting all across the board. The actors all looked like “normal” real people. No one was given the glamour treatment. They didn’t just look the part, though, they pretty much all gave convincing and moving performances.
Takashi Shimura as Watanabe. He had a lot to convey in this movie, and much of it was in close-ups, but it was his face and his expressions that were most stirring. Try to even think about this movie without picturing a close-up of Shimura’s face! You can’t.
Yunosuke Ito as the novelist. His face was so striking and interesting, you almost didn’t want to take your eyes off him.
Miki Odagiri as Toyo Odagiri, Watanabe’s bubbly co-worker. She was also a gem who took well to close-ups. She had the perfect kind of youthful joie de vivre, innocent and unknowingly wise all at once.
Kurosawa is a master of shot composition. Master! Especially with the framing of faces.
This kind of follows the previous one, but Kurosawa is a genius of the close-up in and of itself. The movie would be very different without all the lingering shots of people’s faces.
The unique plot structure. Not everyone likes that Watanabe dies with nearly an hour of running time left, but I found it really interesting. We see the final months of his life solely through the eyes of those he left behind. They all have different agendas, different levels of knowledge, and even different levels of interest.
All the little visual details- the suit Watanabe wears being too loose because he has lost weight from being ill, the mounds of paperwork burying everyone at the office, the worn stockings of Toyo, the pachinko machines, the little wind-up toy rabbit, etc.
The use of the song “Gondola no Uta,” with its “life is brief” lyric. Using a song like that could have easily become cheesy and maudlin, but instead it brought me to tears. Twice.
The plot and its themes of finding meaning in life, handled in a less simplistic, more realistic and gritty way. You can’t help but examine your own life when you watch.
It was largely unsentimental, and when it did get somewhat so, it was always tempered by a darker reality. This wasn’t It’s a Wonderful Life... yet it also has great heart at its center. The way his co-workers at first downplayed his achievements, then were moved by them, then promised to change their ways and live like him, and then just go right back to the way they always were... that is a perfect example.
The initial despair in realizing that most people around us probably don’t notice or appreciate what we do... but the hope that comes from the fact that some do. There are always some.
The Bad:
Is there anything? I know some people might complain it’s too long, and some might complain about the last 50 minutes, but I don’t agree.

Virtual Sketchbook #2
Virtual Sketch Book #2 - Part 1
Unity in art describes how complete the final picture appears. It includes the combination of elements such as line, color, shape, and form that all together are cohesive. It can be simplistic such as a singular plain shape or a mix of elements.
Variety in art creates a visual interest or an energy. It can use the elements of line, color, shape, size, texture, and size to create interest. Too much variety can make the piece look busy, so it is best used with unity to make the artwork nice.
Tumblr media
We see unity in this piece of art with the complete circle and the dove rising up from the circle. The variety of the lines to draw the people are consistent with the colors and the repetition of the color scheme. The energy of the piece is positive and hopeful with the dancing figures and a dove rising up.
Balance in art for a sculpture or building is actual weight. Balance in a composition is the visual weight of shapes and forms in the piece of artwork. Symmetrical balance is an artwork that looks even on all sides. It can be a mirror reflection or it can be balanced with different forms and shapes. An artwork that is Asymmetrical is considered heavier or lighter in different areas and gives the viewer an uncomfortable feeling.
Vincent van Gogh, The Starry Night, 1889
In The Starry Night the heavy shapes on the left side up close give this an asymmetrical balance. It further enhances the feeling to the viewer with the swirls and asymmetry. The piece is considered balanced overall because the high moon and mountains on the right counteract the large shape on the left.
Emphasis in art is the area that draws your eye. Emphasis can be achieved by contrasting the elements of art such as color, shape, size, detail, and contrast. In Subordination it is a neutral area that your eye isn’t drawn to using elements such as less color, less contrast, or isolation.
Tumblr media
In The Swing the light pink color of the large fluffy dress and the sunlight beaming on this woman contrasts to the darkened people and forest around her. Your eye is immediately drawn to the woman on the swing.
Directional Force in art is an artist's way of giving the viewer a map to follow for their composition. Elements such as diagonal lines, vertical lines, horizontal lines, curved lines, shapes and colors can be used to make this map.
Achaemenid, Tomyris with the Head of Cyrus
Tumblr media
The heads of the women on the left are looking down at a hurt man. Another man is holding the hurt man and looking down at him. A man in red is pointing towards the woman. This creates a triangle of directional force and leads the eye around the center of this painting.
Repetition in art is the repeating of elements such as lines, shapes, and colors. Rhythm is a movement in design that uses repetition to create a beat for the viewer’s eyes to follow as they look at the composition.
Tumblr media
The artist repeats the squares and rectangles and colors. This repetition gives a beat that makes the eye boogie-woogie around the art work with a rhythm.
Scale in art is the size of one object in relation to another. Artwork that looks realistic will hold the same scale to objects in real life. An artist can choose to distort the scale and play with proportions. The proportion can be manipulated by showing an angry person with bigger than normal eyes or fists to give more drama to the piece. Proportion is the relationship of sizes within an artwork.
Tumblr media
In Hunters in the Snow the scale of the piece keeps everything very realistic. The dogs are much smaller than the hunters. The people skating in the distance are almost a dot. The far away massive mountains are observable where the rest is just white in the distance. This painting is very proportionate and the sizes are all relatively accurate in comparison giving a  very realistic painting.
Part #2
Chapter 17.2 - Figure 17.7
Tumblr media
The Last Supper uses the table as a horizontal line bringing Christ and the disciples to the forefront. The windows provide geometric shape and an infinite view that is aligned behind Christ's head. He is the focal point of the picture and his head and arms outstretched to his sides form a geometric triangle. Four rectangular doorways are off to each side providing balance to the picture. The composition is united within a room and variety is seen with the shape of the windows, doorways, and the ceiling pattern. The disciples are off to each side in balance and are acting in contrast to Christ who is being quiet and the leader. Christ’s red shirt draws the eye onto him first compared to the other more muted colors. In addition, the circular shine over Christ's head is an almost halo effect giving him a divine nature.
PART #3
Color is an expression of me. I have noticed that the way I dress is often based on how I feel that day. On confident happy days I choose hues of red, blue, and green that have a bright saturation and a dark value. On days where I feel calm, light and relaxed I usually prefer to dress in color hues that are a little more beachy and muted such as light blue, light gray, and seafoam greens. These beach colors have a dull saturation and a light value. If I am sad, I notice that I don’t go toward dark shades of black but prefer grays that range in value and have a dark saturation. My preferred colors such as the beach tones are not pure in color and thus have a low intensity.  Color has affected me in that I am slightly color blind. I can’t distinguish between light pink and purple or light blue and light green especially if they have a low intensity. So, I sometimes need to ask others what the color is before I buy it. Overall the color scheme of my life is continuously changing because I believe I choose and wear color based on how I feel. My preferred hues are Blue and Green. Gray is another favorite color but its hue is not on the color wheel since white and black are not included. Essentially gray is a lighter shade of black.
Part #4
Painting:
Tumblr media
I decided to try and paint something with the inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I saw his digital exhibit this past summer in Sarasota and this was my favorite piece in the collection. It has my favorite colors of green and blue as well as so much emotion from the paint strokes and patterns. I used acrylic paints on a 12” x 16” pre-fabricated painting board from the art store. The swirls, lines and colors were what I was concentrating on. It was much more difficult than I thought it would be but I think my brush strokes have the effect of emotion and motion. I have been to Ringling and other museums but this one particular painting by Van Gogh always stirs something within me. Perhaps upon reflection, it is that I use color subconsciously to express how I feel in my clothes color choices for the day.
Part #5
Portraiture:
Tumblr media
Landscape:
Tumblr media
Still Life:
Tumblr media
Portrait – This is a portrait of a Jack Russel dog. The picture shows the dogs humanistic expression of trying to understand what is being said or what is happening. It shows me that this dog has intelligence and is able to have thoughts,  it is inquisitive and is trying to figure out what is going on. The eyes and direct stare show the Jack Russels attempt to communicate through the locking and meaningful gaze. The flapped ears and relaxed body expression further show the dogs comfort and desire to communicate and understand.
Landscape - This is a picture of Lake Louise taken in Alberta, Canada. This is a summer picture showing the lake, trails, and high white capped mountains in the backdrop. The picture shows the pristine and natural environment of this landscape that is enjoyed by travelers for vacation and offers a multitude of summer and winter sports year round.
Still life : This is a wedding still life of a table decoration. The outdoor picnic table with the natural forest as the backdrop gives a very rustic and "one with nature" feeling. The garnish of acorns, pinecones and vines around the stump brings the nature right up onto the table decoration. The lantern brings life with the illuminated candle and suggests that the outdoor party will go on into the night. The natural sac holding the flowers is a beautiful soft way to tie in an organic natural feel that is warm and inviting. The pink and white flowers are simple, elegant, and have a romantic feel to represent the event. The message of the still life is natural elegance to celebrate a wedding.

One Dollar Lawyer Review (Spoiler Free)
I’m just sad that the writers couldn’t fulfill what they wanted to and everything had to end this way...
Tumblr media
Cheon Ji Hun is a lawyer who has his own very unique ways to solve cases and a graduate Baek Ma Ri will get to learn the ways.
However, with these ups and downs, we get to know that there is something more behind the goofiness of Ji Hun...
I wasn’t so sure at first about the drama but I saw that the screenwriters also wrote Defendant, which I loved, so I had to keep going.
And it was worth finishing the first episode because I got hooked on the first case.
The humour was nicely fitted with the cases but I understand that some might not have enjoyed it as sometimes it felt a bit over the top.
Personally, I think it was very well-balanced, especially with heavier issues.
The characters were very likable, and as a group, they were perfect together. We got one insane guy, one smart and more realistic-view lady, and the guy who just goes along with anything.
A perfect trio really.
There’s no romance in the dramas, and I thank the writers for this. I saw some people comment how they wanted it to be the end game, however, I just couldn’t see them together.
Not only the age gap problem, I just didn’t see that much chemistry between them as a couple.
The other characters had their own characteristics and it was fun to watch them on screen.
However, it would have been nice if they would have showed a little bit more about the secondary characters.
Overall, I enjoyed the drama, it had funny moments and the cases were interesting...
It’s just the ending that felt very rushed, there are some things that we never find out about the characters and what happened to them.
I read somewhere that they cut it short to 12 episodes (originally it was supposed to be 14) because of the low budget.
It is sad knowing that this drama could be better rated with just a few more episodes. It’s definitely one of those dramas that 12 episodes that are a bit too short...

Michael After Midnight: Hancock
Tumblr media
For some reason, I’ve been thinking about Will Smith a lot lately. I dunno why; it’s almost like he did something pretty awesome recently, but it slips my mind as to what it could be. In times like these, it’s always good to watch a movie to refresh your memory! And what better movie than Hancock, a movie where Will Smith plays a well-meaning asshole who loves violence and fucks up his public image so badly he needs Nick from Zootopia to be his new PR man? Just a nice film that definitely doesn’t reflect anything in real life!
Joking aside, I finally decided to check Hancock out; I always felt like this was a movie that really flew under the radar, with it dropping and then just vanishing from the collective consciousness. Sure, the titular character made it onto an EW list of the top 100 characters of the past 25 years, and the whale tossing scene I’d seen mocked a few times for its blatant and shoddy CGI, but this movie kind of just…vanished. It came and it went, and you don’t really see it talked about.
And I can half see why… But I also half think this is a very underrated film.
The very best part of the film is the titular character. Hancock is a pretty atypical role for Will Smith these days; he’s cultivated an image as a sort of a charismatic, charming leading man that it can be weird to see him playing someone who’s very much an anti-hero, slob, and an asshole. Still, Smith ahs done characters like this before and since, but I think Hancock might be one of his best. EW was correct to call him a great character, because he’s just fun to watch whether he’s fucking up or genuinely being a hero. If only the story had been more consistent so that it could give Hancock the chance to truly shine instead of bogging him down with incredibly dense lore.
So the big thing with Hancock is that it is very much a From Dusk til Dawn situation here. For those not in the know, From Dusk til Dawn is a film directed by Robert Rodriguez (the visionary genius behind such classics as Desperado, Machete, and the Spy Kids franchise. Also Sharkboy & Lavagirl) that starts out as your average crime thriller about two violent criminal brothers hijacking a family’s vacation and using them to cross the border into Mexico and escape with their riches. For the first half of the film, it plays out like you’d expect… then they go to a titty bar, Salma Hayek sticks her foot in Quentin Tarantino’s mouth (did I mention he wrote this film? You can tell), and suddenly the club is full of bloodthirsty vampires and we’re in an entirely different film. It’s very jarring, sure, and it’s kind of insane, but Rodriguez manages to make it work because he is insane, as anyone who has seen Spy Kids 3D can attest.
Hancock also has two distinct halves, with a jarring shift right in the middle… but it’s not quite as graceful. The first half of the film is basically what the film was advertised as: a goofy deconstructive parody of superheroes. Hancock is a drunken asshole, and he causes a lot of property damage whenever he gets off his ass to fight crime, so we get quite a lot of hinjinks in this stretch of the movie. We have a bad CGI whale getting tossed into the ocean, we have a child being launched into the stratosphere at the speed of sound, we have a dude getting his head shoved up another guy’s ass… and all of this comes with some realistic consequences for Hancock. We see the public hating him for injuring and inconveniencing them, we see a warrant issued for his arrest, we see him go to jail, and we see Jason Bateman constantly working to rehabilitate Hancock’s image. This is easily the better half of the film, as it’s fun, funny, and still manages to work in a few emotional moments here and there.
But then, halfway through, Charlize Theron steps out of her car in heels, and the movie shifts gears from a goofy superhero action comedy into a lore-heavy superhero drama. We get some massive infodumps, we get heavier emotions, and laughs all but vanish as things become deathly serious from here until the end. And none of this is bad, really; I’m writing my own lore-heavy fantasy story, so this sort of thing is my jam. The issue is that the shift from one half of the movie to the next is so sudden and jarring, and it just absolutely not gel together well at all. From Dusk til Dawn was able to gracefully pull off welding what felt like two different films together into something entertaining, while this feels like if halfway through Guardians of the Galaxy it suddenly became Eternals with no warning.
And the thing is, both halves are actually great on their own. The first half is some of the most enjoyable superhero action-comedy you’ll see, and the second half is some truly compelling drama. The issue is these things just collide haphazardly, and don’t come together in a way that enhances the film. Think of it like peanut butter and ranch dressing. Peanut butter is great on its own, provided you don’t have allergies, and ranch is great on its own provided you’re not lactose intolerant. They are delicious condiments that truly enhance certain meals. But if you put peanut butter and ranch together, well, you’re gonna have a bad time unless you’re a dog or have no sensation in your taste buds. An escaping criminal movie suddenly becoming survival horror works, because it’s like combining chocolate and peanut butter, two distinct things that can pair well; having a wacky action-comedy suddenly shift gears into a heavy superhero drama, well… peanut butter and ranch.
Tonal problems aside, there’s a couple of other things that are kinda dumb, mainly with how despite everyone being aware of Hancock and his power level criminals keep acting suicidally overconfident whenever he’s around. The chief example of this is the finale, where the ridiculous villain who earlier was just a goofy showcase of Hancock redeeming himself in the eyes of the public haphazardly retconned into being the fucking Hannibal Lecter of bank robbers decides to attack the titular hero with the help of two goons. There’s some plot stuff hindering Hancock at the time, but for fuck’s sake, one of these goons had his head shoved up the other’s ass already, you’d think maybe they’d do everything in their power to steer clear of Hancock.
Still, problems aside, I think this film is a pretty sorely underrated film, but it’s also one that I can see why it’s underrated. What we have here is two halves of two truly great films that come together to make a pretty good movie, but it just can never rise above that because of how uncomfortably jarring the tone shift is. If the film had just stuck to its guns one way or the other instead of trying to hopscotch between ideas for two radically different movies, I think it would have been a lot better. As it is, it’s a pretty enjoyable movie for the most part. If you want to see Will Smith slap around a bunch of pathetic assholes and you’re tired of rewatching him smacking unfunny comedians at the Oscars, this is a decent way to spend an hour and forty minutes. It’s probably not going to change your life or anything, but it’s a solid Will Smith vehicle if nothing else.
