I'm thinking about EAH putting on an "event", perhaps a charity ball type thing, where there are students from any class attending (because you don't not invite certain important people lest they choose to curse you and your baby) but it's still graded on the basis of performance counting towards extra credit in various subjects (dance, wooing, princessology, etc).

Only you don't choose your own partner.

It's a bit like the teachers pairing you up for a group project with other people in the class, but the metric they are using to decide who gets partnered with who is based on the Ballroom Dance portion of the evening. As your ideal Ballroom partner is meant to be the same or similar height to you (you're supposed to be able to see over their shoulder, though generally the person being spun should also be short enough to go under the arm).

Which is where ship pairings come in.

Obviously, as a Dexven shipper I'm thinking about Dexter and Raven being around the same height. Maybe they were paired up together originally and Dexter had to do some smooth talking to stay paired up with Raven because someone balked at the idea of placing Raven with a Prince Charming (especially when his extra credit class is Advanced Wooing), or maybe he was originally paired with Duchess but Duchess made a fuss of some sort about Dexter being a bad dancer in the practice dance they had and Raven gets defensive (jealous) and does a practice dance with Dexter to "prove" that Duchess is the problem (inadvertently earning extra credit points for one of her villain classes for stealing someone else's prince) and getting paired with Dexter instead(I think that one would need a meaner-than-canon Raven given she'd be roleplaying a villain part to even do that in the first place, as the Prince dances and professes his love to someone who is not the Swan Princess in Swan Lake. Poor Duchess).

Meanwhile, Apple is having a crisis of her own because she and Daring aren't height matched and that's just feeding into her preexisting insecurities about her looks as she believes it implies she's not good enough for her role if she doesn't match her Prince Charming. Like maybe the two of them did get paired together anyway for that reason and Apple is still a little short despite that and whatever heels she's already wearing.

Or maybe they didn't get a chance to try as Apple and Darling get paired together since EAH has more girls than boys. And Darling gets to play the part of Prince Charming comforting the upset princess, and slowly falling in love, while Apple is perhaps too caught up in "destiny" to realise that she might not be straight (or rather rejects the few glimpses she does have during the dance when she does let herself have some fun because she's too scared by the fact she doesn't know how taking that chance at happily-ever-after would turn out).

Honestly, the double standard for WC characters is so weird (and misogynistic of course). Nobody thinks it's weird ships like SquirrelCr0w <- (so it doesn't go into the tag) is weird, when most depictions overlook Crowfeather's abusive behavior or even ignore what he did to Breezpelt entirely? His neglect of Breezepelt is treated as afterthought if ever acknowledged at all. His treatement of Leafpool or Nightcloud? Nah, who cares about that! His red flags in his relationships after Feathertail aren't even there. Crowfeather would be a great father to Squirrelflight's kits and mate, unlike stinky Bramblestar (who he acts near identical to anyways, and the only difference is he doesn't have an unhealthy power dynamic as her leader or deputy to use against her). Heck, from what I've seen it's usually Feathertail encouraging him to be sooo niceys too, so it's not like HE does introspection (ofc I'm sure that's not always the case but still worth bringing up), so it's not even a matter of him growing as a person. Meanwhile, if you decided to ship Palebird with anyone people would start freaking out. Or if you even breath about Nightcloud since the fandom and books are so desperate to absolve their little uwu boy. I get that AUs are supposed to be fun, but the double standard is so annoying. Especially when it means they act like Crowfeather would ever be sweet as pie to anyone- 💀 no he wouldn't even his so-called redemption book he kept going "god i wish the son i didn't care enough to raise would die already" because he's not saying I'M a good father to him or backing me up!".

i generally understand crowsquirrel as like. a ship that makes sense in the context of tnp where the two actually have an entire journey to bond, but i also just generally don't agree that the two would get on very well after a while. but you know, most of it exists in for fun au's and even though i have my little crowfeather haterisms, i'm not gonna fault anyone for having fun with a sillay little ship au.

but then yeah it is a little like. why dont i get my silly little au then. why can't i believe in a world where the women in warrior cats can actually like each other lol

I'm so glad some of my ramblings could be of use. My three years of experimenting on myself has translated into someone else not needing to fumble around in the dark as much! But yeah I've found that more horizontal/downturned eyeliner translates better on my features and is also just easier to do in general (for me), so I'm glad it worked out for you!

The only thing Landy can do is to just stop writing them, stop mentioning them, and stop pushing them down to build up his shitty new characters. Don't write a phase 3, declare phase 2 non-canon and give the IP to someone else, let them do the fixing. A dream scenario would be if the IP was given to a game studio and it would receive the 'The Witcher' treatment.

While I'm still hoping phase 3 won't happen, Landy confirmed in his latest podcast that phase 3 is definitely happening in 'some form'. In some form. I wonder what that is supposed to mean. That doesn't sound like HarperCollins has bought the publishing rights for phase 3 yet and that doesn't sound like Landy is optimistic that they will. What if they end up not buying it? Is Landy seriously going to self-publish like the anon suggested?

Or perhaps he meant by 'in some form' that it won't be in book form (since Laura joking suggested a SP musical). Imagine if phase 3 would not be a book series but a comic series instead. I mean, the comic was the only part of the Grimoire that was well-received thanks to Todor Hristov's gorgeous art style.

Unlike a movie or TV-Show Landy could probably pay for the first comic book (or perhaps even graphic novel) out of his own pocket and through his work for Marvel he has already made some connections within the comic books industry. So I wouldn't deem it impossible.

That way, even if the writing is shit, I could at least get some professional art of the nasty boys out of the mess that phase 3 is going to be judging by how shit the last two phase 2 books were.

If you ever needed a good demonstration of the quote "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", have I got an exercise for you.

Somebody made a small article explaining the basics of atomic theory but it's written in Anglish. Anglish is basically a made-up version of English where they remove any elements (words, prefixes, etc) that were originally borrowed from romance languages like french and latin, as well as greek and other foreign loanwords, keeping only those of germanic origin.

What happens is an english which is for the most part intelligible, but since a lot everyday english, and especially the scientific vocabulary, has has heavy latin and greek influence, they have to make up new words from the existing germanic-english vocabulary. For me it kind of reads super viking-ey.

Anyway when you read this article on atomic theory, in Anglish called Uncleftish Beholding, you get this text which kind of reads like a fantasy novel. Like in my mind it feels like it recontextualizes advanced scientific concepts to explain it to a viking audience from ancient times.

Even though you're familiar with the scientific ideas, because it bypasses the normal language we use for these concepts, you get a chance to examine these ideas as if you were a visitor from another civilization - and guess what, it does feel like it's about magic. It has a mythical quality to it, like it feels like a book about magic written during viking times. For me this has the same vibe as reading deep magic lore from a Robert Jordan book.
