Banished Wonders
by Ada Límon
The American linden sways nonplussed by the storm, a bounce here, a shimmy there, just shaking like music
left over from the night's end wafting into the avenues before sleep. I remember once walking down Clinton Street, and singing
that line returning, New York is cold, but I like where I'm living. There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening. And of course
there was music, though it was me and my incessant remembering. And here now, what does one even offer?
Darling Cockroaches of the Highest Order, hard underthings of hard underworlds, I am utterly suspicious of advice.
What is the world like out there? Are you singing in the tunnels?
I should say nothing sometimes. I should say, Memory will leap from the mountain.
Dearest purple spiderwort in the ditch's mud, how did you do it? Such bravery, such softness, even with all that name calling and rage.
No one wants to be a pretty thing all the time. But no one wants to be the weed. Alone in Argentina at a cafe, I never felt like dancing, I screwed
my face up so it said nothing and no one and never. Borges lost his sight over years, and yet sometimes it is best to be invisible.
What is it to be seen in the right way? As who you are? A flash of color, a blur in the crowd, something spectacular but untouchable.
And now the world is gone. No more Buenos Aires or Santiago. No tango, no samba. No more pisco sours sweet and sticky and piercing the head's stubborn brick.
Mistral writes: We don't need all the things that used to give us pleasure. Still some dumb desire, to sneak into the cities of the world
again, a window, to sit at Cafe Tortoni and refuse an invitation because I can. Now we endure.
Endure time, this envenomed veil of extremes--loss and grief and reckoning.
Mistral writes: I killed a woman in me: One I did not love. But I do not want to kill that longing woman in me. I love her and I want her to go on longing
until it drives her mad, that longing, until her desire is something
like a blazing flower, a tree shaking off the torrents of rain as if it is simply making music.

Deadline: April 1st, 2024 Payment: One cent U.S. per word ($2 minimum) Theme: Fantastic Fiction You really NEED to read the description below. The Cafe Irreal is a quarterly webzine that presents a kind of fantastic fiction infrequently published in English. This fiction, which we would describe as irreal, resembles the work of writers such as Franz Kafka, Kobo Abe, Clarice Lispector and Jorge Luis Borges. As a type of fiction it rejects the tendency to portray people and places realistically and the need for a full resolution to the story; instead, it shows us a reality constantly being undermined. Therefore, we're interested in stories by writers who write about what they don't know, take us places we couldn't possibly go, and don't try to make us care about the characters. We would also suggest you take a look at the current issue, archives, and theory (especially the essay, "What is irrealism?") pages on this web site. We accept unsolicited fiction up to 2,000 words in length. Translations are welcome. There is no minimum length. We accept only electronic submissions via e-mail at [email protected]. We cannot, due to the various computer viruses and worms, accept attachments anymore, so please paste your story into the body of the e-mail. Also include your name, address, e-mail address, and a short bio in the text of the submission; please put the word "submission" in the subject heading of the e-mail to ensure that your submission doesn't get lost among all the spam. We pay an honorarium of one cent U.S. per word ($2 minimum) to buy first-time internet rights (the story will then be archived). Payment is made upon publication. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DON'T ACCEPT SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS and are only interested in reprints in unusual cases (e.g., the story has appeared in print but not on the internet). Therefore, if the story or translation has been published before, please specify where and when. Regarding submission of more than one story at a time, we will consider up to 2,000 words submitted by a single author at a given time, either one story or a number of short shorts. Please note, however, that if you submit several short shorts, they must be enclosed within a single e-mail. We do not publish the same author in consecutive issues, except when we have specifically solicited the material. We accept submissions year-round and usually respond in two months, though it can take as long as four months. The Cafe Irreal is a quarterly publication, publishing on February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1 of each year. The deadline for submissions for each issue will be one month before the date of publication. The deadline for the next issue (Spring 2024) will be April 1, 2024. Via: The Cafe Irreal.

A man who cultivates his garden, as Voltaire wished.
He who is grateful for the existence of music.
He who takes pleasure in tracing an etymology.
Two workmen playing, in a cafe in the South, a silent game of chess.
The potter, contemplating color and form.
The typographer who set this page well, though it may not please him.
A woman and man, who read the last tercets of a certain canto.
He who strokes a sleeping animal.
He who justifies, or wishes to, a wrong done to him.
He who is grateful for the existence of Stevenson.
He who prefers others to be right.
These people, unaware, are saving the world.
— Jorge Luis Borges

Jorge Luis Borges is scarier than H,P. Lovecraft to me.
When I lived in Buenos Aires, I had a dream once. It was a cinematic experience of the city. Set to accordion music, I zoomed in on a street corner cafe full of life and happy people. It was a postcard of the city. Then I realised that the city is in a symbiotic relationship with its inhabitants, they get to enjoy living there, and the city feeds off of them. On a different level than other cities do. It’s sentient in a way, so it needs there to be movement and thoughts and emotions.
Related to it were my depressed waking thoughts about Buenos Aires being haunted by the ghost of the forest that previously grew there.
Borges is like that, but he deals with ideas and words.
The way the concept of Uqbar was presented had me scared like I rarely am. The resolution was okay, but the build-up had me aghast.

Would you like a Macchiato with that?(WIP)
Macchiatto Shipping (Skylor x Coffee Manager)
AN: who's the Coffee manager? Well this gal right here!
Tumblr media
I call her Jennifer after Jenny X9 from My life as a Teenage Robot, but I theorize she may be Pixals Predecessor, the 15th P.I.X.A.L. Her color scheme is way to close for me along with her personality haha her and Pixal are both very competitive and full of sass along with being protective of their respective interests.
Back when Diisdoodles and I were on speaking terms, they came up with the ship name, which I still absolutely love, so I will still use as I revive this pairing.
.
.
Skylor noticed when a Nindroid moved into the abandoned shop just down the block from her, she decided to leave the other alone. Especially if they were planning on opening a business, the Nindroid would be plenty busy rebuilding the place
Then of all people, Doctor Cyrus Borg showed up at her restaurant covered in grease and dust a mask around his neck and the Nindroid beside him, the pair laughing at something as they entered. The Nindroid was pretty with medium gray hair tied back, even with paint splattered throughout and even on her facial plates
"Welcome to Master Chens Noodle House." She found herself tumbling into her usual spiel they both smiled as they waved going to a booth as she decided to go on over
The pair had already a few things from the belt, their heads turning at her intrusion,
"Sorry Mr Borg don't mean to intrude, but I noticed thus one moving down into the old Store down the road. Curiosity got me and wished to meet my new neighbor,"
He gave her a grin,
"Oh, that's perfectly fine to me! It makes me happy that she's being welcomed so warmly."
The Nindroid nodded a soft smile on her face,
"It makes me happy as well," she agreed before holding hr hand out I am Jennifer, the 15th P.I.X.A.L."
Skylor accepted it, smiling back,
"Nice to meet you, I'm Skylor Chen. May I call you Jenny?"
"Of course it is what those close to me call me, and I have a feeling we are going to be close. I have big hopes to restart this district, make this place a hub of good food and entertainment."
Skylor beamed Jennifer, returning the same smile
"I love to hear that! You and I share the same ideal, if I may put a bug in your ear the place you are renovating used to be the local bakery,"
Cyrus gave a playful look as he took a bite of his bowl of noodles, Jennifer responding
"Then it's a good thing it's being turned into a cafe,"
"That makes me happy to hear. The local college kids will swarm it so I'd have a nook for them to tuck themselves in. " She motioned to her restaurants own a giant booth filled with young adults"Well I will leave you both to eat I would say it's on the house but knowing Mr Borg he'd slip a 100$ into the tip jar like last time"
She heard Jenny laugh as her fathers face went red as the woman went back to the kitchen
Skylor began seeing more of the Nindroid around sometimes with others she theorized were other family members, they began sitting down on the days Jennifer was on her own and the Noodle House was in a lull

The Scurvy Sea And The Arms Beneath
I release new TTRPG material on a weekly basis, and this week's release is The Scurvy Sea And The Arms Beneath for CY_BORG.
CY_BORG is a gloomy modern cyberpunk built on the Mork Borg engine, and the supplements that I have released for it are all generally nonsense.
The Scurvy Sea adds boat racing in the city of CY's canals and aquaculture farms.
MOG_BORG lets you run a cat cafe.
What To Eat At The End Of The World is a guide to various restaurants and food stalls across the city of CY.
And Wolves Of Polished Chome adds werewolves on motorcycles.
All of these supplements have Community Copies (i.e. free copies if you need them,) and the core book of Cy_Borg is required to play (but it is rad and has a really floofy cat in the middle and so I recommend it.)

NEW FERENGI TIMELINE — combining elements from this post && this post, since @constablegoo && i have since changed the pacing of things.
Tumblr media
2363-2369 — the events of "the kind of thing that could be"
2368 — giax && siraba flee ferenginar && stow away on the enterprise-d.
2369 — the federation takes over terok nor. quark is blackmailed into staying on the station. dr. reyga's studies on metaphasic shielding are tested on board the enterprise. after a near-death event, his hypothesis is proven plausible && he goes on to do great things with his research. he invites siraba && giax to travel with him; they decline due to safety concerns but remain in touch,
2370 — pel arrives on ds9 after leaving ferenginar. they subsequently depart for the gamma quadrant.
2371 — nog applies to starfleet academy
2372 — nog starts at starfleet academy. giax && siraba arrive on ds9, seeking federation asylum.
2373 — nog does his second year field study on ds9
2374 — nog is given a field commission of ensign, two years early. pel returns to ds9 briefly during the events of "profit and lace" (as chronicled here).
2375 —  nog is promoted to lieutenant jr. grade, following the end of the dominion war. rom becomes grand nagus. odo leaves ds9 to rejoin the link for six months. following his return, he && quark only see each other a handful of times, as their responsibilities keep them busy. siraba, while away on an exchange with denobulan scientists, first meets @zeveth. the two later begin working together, somewhat begrudgingly, on a cure for the jem'hadar's reliance on ketracel-white once zeveth takes refuge on ds9.
2376 — nog returns to san francisco for an honorary graduation with the rest of his class. quark is offered a job managing branches of a ferengi-operated casino around the alpha quadrant. he considers going, but realizes he doesn't want to leave. quark && odo admit in their own way to feelings they have been harboring on && off for years. there's an almost-unspoken agreement to the start of a relationship, one that they don't rush, && don't put a name to for a while. siraba && zeveth also start dating around this time.
2377 — nog is promoted to a full lieutenant
2380 — nog becomes the assistant chief engineer of ds9
2381 — nog is promoted to lieutenant commander
2384 — nog becomes the chief engineer of ds9
2385 — nog formally switches to the command track && promoted to commander. quark begins opening chain locations of his bar across the galaxy, traveling when necessary, but keeping ds9 as his home base.
2386 — qelet is assimilated by the borg.
2387 — qelet's reclamation process takes place between ohniaka iii && ferenginar.
2388 — qelet enters starfleet academy, sponsored by nog.
2390 — nog is promoted to captain, is sent on a 1-year exploratory && diplomatic mission to the gamma quadrant. quark opens a branch of his bar on freecloud, && decides to move there with odo.
2391 — jake && nog get engaged.
2392 — quark and odo take in an orphaned [bajoran] child. jake and nog get married
2393 — odo proposes, && they get married themselves. qelet graduates starfleet academy && is stationed on ds9.
2453 — on his 100th birthday, nog retires from active starfleet service after a long and distinguished career. he becomes the official federation ambassador to ferenginar, a role in which he serves until his death (which is not for a while. he lives a long time, close if not up to the upper limit for ferengi, which is 300 years).
2475 — grand nagus rom retires, && is succeeded by his granddaughter ishka ii
2483 — quark and odo have been living on freecloud for over 90 years. in that time, they’ve adopted and raised a number of children, and quark has come into quite a large amount of money and power. keeping his chain of bars open, he and odo leave freecloud and “retire” to ds9, where they open a small cafe together (yes, together.) it’s called QUARK (& odo)’s because they’re very original lmao.
2550 — quark retires for real, and he and odo go to ferenginar where they stay until quark’s death (probably around 2580-2590).
3186 — iba is assigned to the uss nog, an 80% ferengi starfleet ship, as a science officer.
3187 — iba makes contact with odo, who is living alone on ferenginar, seeking his assistance.
3189 — iba is transferred to the uss discovery.

The Buffy Re-watch: S1E12 (part 3)
Prophecy Girl
Last part. After this I'm going to try and write up an end of season character analysis for the main characters. It won't be perfect and I might miss stuff but I'm still learning how to do this, so be kind and patient with me. Anyway, last notes for this episode.
We pick up from Buffy's resignation to a wonderful Joyce moment. She knows that something is wrong and does her best to be there for Buffy with helpful advice. It's true you don't need a date to enjoy social events, just go anyway. This also applies to eating out at restaurants and cafes, going to the cinema, picnics or anything else. Go enjoy it for yourself.
I love Buffy's white dress. It's got a classic elegance feel to it.
Do Cordelia and Willow just not notice the bloody hand print on the TV as they look into the room? Because you would tend to notice these things unless your Shaun in 'Shaun of the Dead'.
Death is different when you know the people who died and see the carnage that has been left. Willow never saw Jesse die, so she never really got to experience death. This was in her face and had a profound effect on her.
Buffy's 'Take care' to Willow seals what she is going to do. You can see on Buffy's face as Willow talks that she is making up her mind to go and fight The Master. Willow knows something is off, which is why she goes to Giles later. Also, dress liking comment #1.
Giles would rather go and fight The Master himself than let Buffy die. But Buffy knows that she is the only one strong enough to fight him.
It's such a sad moment when Buffy takes The Anointed One's hand. He looks like a sweet, innocent child, yet is the bringer of Buffy's death. She knows this and takes his hand anyway.
Locutus of Borg- Star Trek TNG reference. I'm a TNG fan so I appreciate this reference.
Despite the fact that Xander hates Angel, he as still willing to go to him for help. Though, shoving a cross in his face and telling him you hate him is not the best way to get him to help. It's a way, but not the best. The only thing I can sort of comment Xander on is asking Angel to prove Buffy right that he is good.
A sort of fake out that the Hellmouth will open at the Bronze, and not right under them.
The Master takes Buffy's jacket off with such grace, just before he kills her. Gave me the creeps.
And then we get the kicker. 'You're the one that sets me free.' that has to hurt so much. If Buffy stuck to her original plan of staying away, she would have been fine and The Master would not be free. Her decision to face him got her killed. At least he likes her drees, comment #2.
Xander and Angel find her not long after The Master is free. Xander does the thing needed here, Chest compressions, chest compressions, chest compressions. With rescue breaths because for drowning victims it is necessary to introduce oxygen to the body. Otherwise it is not needed. Thank you for that info Doctor Mike. I will say though, they are bad chest compressions.
Cordelia to the rescue for Jenny and Willow.
Then the Hellmouth opens for the first time in the show. Oh look, tentacles. Eww.
The theme song plays as Buffy fast walks to catch up to The Master.
Ha, Cordy bites a vampire. Go her.
Is this the same monster that comes out of the Hellmouth in season 3's 'The Zeppo'?
Buffy is definitely pretty. Also, how did The Master end up looking like that?
Why are The Master's bones left? Other vampires turn to dust, bones and all, but not him.
They saved the world, they should party. Angel likes Buffy's dress, comment #3.
End of season 1.
Yay! Made is through the first season of Buffy. I have character analyses for Buffy, Willow, Xander, Cordelia, Giles and Angel going up after this post does, and then I'll be doing season 2. As of writing this post I have re-watched 13 episodes, so I can make good headway into typing up season 2 without delay.
I really am hoping to continue doing this and then move on to Angel, maybe Supernatural, maybe Ted Lasso because I recently started watching it due to the Cinema Therapy episodes they did on it. That will keep me busy for a while, but I will also take movie requests, to break up seasons of shows, especially if I do Supernatural (there are 15 seasons, over 300 episodes. Yeah I will need to take breaks).
Thanks for reading.

Tagged by: @arnaerr thank you 🥰
Three ships: I'm trying to choose ships I didn't choose last time— V/Judy Alvarez from Cyberpunk. Thane Krios/Shepard (which made me cry the first time so I don't play it anymore lol). Krobus/Farmer from Stardew Valley LMAO I downloaded a mod to let me marry him :))
First ever ship: I don't really remember the first but I was a fan of this anime I watched when 10 called The Twelve Kingdoms. The studio ran out of money midway through so it was never finished. It featured this mouse/rat character named Rakashun who could turn from mouse/rat into a man and I shipped him with the MC.
Last song/album is: Um Girassol Da Cor Do Seu Cabello — Lo Borges
Last movie: Dracula: Dead and Loving It
Currently reading: Salem's Lot by Stephen King, The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
Currently watching: Better Call Saul and Abbot Elementary.
Currently consuming: A tasty coffee at the cafe where I'm supposed to be working lol
Currently craving: sleep 💤
Tagging: I'm late on the reply and just tagged a bunch in the last tag game so feel to jump in on this too if you want!!

📁 But specifically with Latt3 if that's fine?
Send “📂“ for a random yet completely useless headcanon I have
Sure, I think I can find one for you! *Rummages through bag o' headcannons*
Latt3 was a prototype originally designed to be an automated server droid by Borg, but when she showed the same capacity for higher-level personality and thinking as Pixal, Cyrus couldn't put her into mass-production.
BONUS HEADCANNON:
She did so well running the Borg Tower cafe, that she ended up making enough money from her own wages, that she was able to open her own coffee shop with Ronin as her chief investor! Cyrus had offered to just give her the money, but she wanted to do this on her own.
