Motivation PLUS

Solo Season in Vic is well under way. I can’t believe how much talent and confidence there is in the cali world! Every single girl who steps on that stage is a winner.

I’m flowing through my chorey nicely this year and after watching some solos over the long weekend (Labour Day for us Vics) I could not believe the amount of inspiration and motivation it gave me to keep that flow going. I went home from these comps with some amazing ideas, some cool new tricks for my girls to try and a fresh outlook on my items.

I suggest you get down and see some of these incredible sections (particularly the Open Reserve and Open sections) and use the talent of the girls and coaches for your own benefit (and a cheap night of entertainment). I have advance my Inters Freearm and Aesthetics from seeing these solos and I will bet any money, it will do the same for you.

Solo season begins!

I wish all solo, duo and graceful girls the best of luck for the season that begins tonight! Enjoy your performance, show everyone why YOU love calisthenics.

Solos are all about you. It’s your time to shine!

Think of it like fun pupil skills - you’re performing for the judge so you can be the best you can be at calisthenics. Trophies and medals are bonuses.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a week. High’s being a massive influx of chorey ideas and visions, plenty of compliments on my style and the best of all - my mum loves aesthetics. She normally HATES aesthetics. (I coach Masters). To be able to create an item that someone who normally greatly despises Aesthetics, enjoy it, is the biggest compliment you could possibly get as a Coach. So as I’ve started typing, I’ve discovered my topic - Masters. I say this to my Masters all the time and basically anyone who will listen but Masters would have to be the most under appreciated age group in Cali. Tinies are a very close second - for those who can get 3 year olds to concentrate and perform on stage by themselves deserve a gold medal for patience alone!

Masters however... A lot of my experience with Masters has been with mums who have either never done it before or have had a very long break. Cali has changed a lot over the years so to make a comeback, is almost like beginning a new skill.

I often hear my magnificent Masters make comments that often put themselves down.. especially at the beginning of the year and when they’re stressing about getting up on stage. But what I want every Master to know is that you are role models! It’s great to know that I can continue practicing and competing until my body can no longer keep up. My youngest Master is 38 (ish) and my oldest is 80. Average age is around 45-50

Now you tell me, are they not the bravest and inspiring women in calisthenics ever?! I went to a Div 1 comp and MY GOODNESS, some of their work was harder than mine as a Senior! These ladies are incredible!

In saying that, no matter what skill level or division Masters are at, they should be admired by everyone in the cali world.

These ladies work harder than anyone I know. I will forever be a Masters coach, they are my absolute favourite age group to work with. I will always boast about being involved in Masters, I will always be grateful to be a Masters coach and I will always encourage any one to either join a Masters team or to continue Cali as a Master.

They are the highlight of my comp season and I am always so proud to show them off.

I could go on forever about Masters, but I think I’ve made my point.

If CVI are ever looking for a Masters ambassador, I will immediately put my hand up.

They are my personal role models.

Choreography

I fell in love with a piece of music and chose it for my Inters Rods routine. I made up 16 counts and then I got stuck... couldn’t work what the bloody hell to do next. I moved on to another item as I thought maybe I just wasn’t in the right head space for Rods at the time. I gave it a few more chances but I was just not satisfied with what I’d done and the ideas would not flow like the other items had.

So I scratched it and chose a whole different idea, joined and cut a new piece of music and OH MY GOODNESS, within 20minutes, I had choreographed 4-5 lots of 16 and now I want to be IN the item! I’m VERY excited to show my girls and I hope I can pass on my excitement and enthusiasm to them tomorrow.

So my message here is, if it’s not working for you, its not going to work for your team. Find something that motivates you so you can pass that enthusiasm on to your girls for a ripper item!

FIRST CLASS FOR 2017!

DEATH IS UPON ME!

Oh my goodness, what a killer first class!! I could barely make it through warm up. My legs turned to jelly after a bit of cardio and some squats. Then it was just a downward spiral from then on. I can’t walk properly today.

Looking forward to the year already. Some great music choices from our coach and some VERY original ideas.

I’ll begin my coaching this week too and I’m very excited to start teaching the work I’ve created.

Stay tuned friends, I’ll do my best to post at least twice a week with a recap of classes/ideas/struggles/etc
