Cafe Girl, Grocery Boy | CH.4

A/N: Don’t hate me but your antagonists for this story are Jeonghan, Jun and Seokmin. We all need a little bad boy!svt in our lives but I love those boys so don’t paint me as a villain, ok, let’s continue.

-You- After my little venture with Seungcheol, my shift ended and I swapped out with Joshua leaving him with the newbies, “Don’t scare them again, Shua.”

“You say that as if I always scare them,” he scoffs at me as we switch aprons, “need anything before you head out?” “Eh, not right now but I’ll head back over here before my date.” “You got it, wait, a date??!” “Bye Joshua! Bye V! Bye Chan!” I wave bye and rush out before being bombarded with Joshua’s questions.

I fast walk to my car, yet having about an hour before my exam. So I sat there, just thinking. I’m really going on a date for the first time in forever today. College hasn’t been too kind to me when it comes to dating. I’ve either been too busy or just too in my head when a guy would ask me out. Joshua even tried asking me out the first year we met. It didn’t work out in our favor. We found it better to be best friends instead of romantic friends, ya know? And I’m not the out-going type. I live in shadows, I’m never the girl in the spotlight.

But Seungcheol makes me feel a different way. He’s different.

Why is he so different?

-Seungcheol- “What are you smiling for?” Jihoon finally finishes his exam and walks out of the lecture hall.

“Took you long enough and it’s nothing, just thinking about something.”

“Thinking about her?”

“How’d you know?” I sarcastically answer while handing Jihoon the bagel I got him from y/n.

“Lucky guess, and thank you, I’m STARVING!” Jihoon practically inhales the bagel and repeats again that he’s still hungry, “Come on, I’ll treat you, lover boy, let’s get ramen.”

“I’m just going to ignore the lover boy comment, I’ll drive.” We walk off campus into the parking lot and continue to talk about how easy the exam was since we actually studied for once until we’re stopped by a voice.

The unknown voice parks his motorcycle and reveals himself as he removes his helmet, “AY COUPS WOOZ!”

Oh dear god.

“Hey Jeonghan, what’s up?” Jihoon reacts coldly.

“Come on, Wooz, don’t be so cold. It’s really cool, seeing you guys again! Really! And by the way, the place is looking really great now since you guys left, I appreciate your decision.”

Our silence gives Jeonghan his answer to his insensitive comments, “Any who, I’m going to my econ exam now,” he scoffs, “and have fun at your crummy place, losers. Don’t miss you for a second.”

We don’t either, asshole. Jihoon and I left that disgusting frat house about a year ago and haven’t seen any of those vile guys in a long time. They were easily the smartest, richest and the worst guys on campus. Their frat consists of scaring freshman to death, having strict rules on what your grades and GPA should be, and molding guys into what they thought was a good looking guy. Jihoon and I came from upper-class families too, but we were like them. They were a different breed. They put me and Jihoon in their frat as a joke. They ridiculed us daily for our looks, they constantly played pranks on us and last year, Jihoon snapped, like full on hulked out on them. He trashed the whole house, ruined half of their rooms, with my help, of course, and we were out of there.

Those guys did do one good thing for me, they led me to get a job. I didn’t want to depend on my parent’s money like they did. They led me to provide for myself and Jihoon and we got our own apartment. They may be evil but they helped me grow.

ANYWAYS.

Jihoon and I drove off, rolling the windows down, blasting the new 88rising album and just relieved.

“I can’t wait for this break, oh my god.” Jihoon sighs as he rests his head on the edge of the car window. “Couldn’t agree more.” I turned up the music as we continued to talk about our exam and our mid term break plans. I hope she passes all her tests. She deserves it.

“So, any idea where you’re taking her tonight?” “Not sure just yet. There’s this new chicken place that opened up downtown and I’ve been meaning to go there. But I’m not sure if that’s even romantic.” “Well, if you make it romantic, it’ll be romantic, promise.” “Ok Mr. love-expert,” I laugh as Jihoon begins on and on about how I should go about the night, “I think I just go with the flow and see what happens, ya know?” “She’s a business major, Coups. She lives and breathes plans. You can’t just go with the flow!” “You never know? Your major never really defines who you are.” “But it gives a good insight though. Only the top percent even get to be business majors.” “Whatever, so how does this sound, I pick her up from her apartment, we go to the chicken place, talk for a bit, I bring her to my favorite dessert place and we walk around the park?” “Straight out of a drama, I love it,” Jihoon places his hand on my shoulder, “You’re turning into a man,” he sniffles. “Shut up,” I punched his arm as I parked the car in front of the ramen place.

-You-

[time: 4:30pm]

I finished a little bit earlier than a majority of my class and I handed in my paper and walked out of the hall, feeling accomplished. Then someone calls out, “y/l/n!”

“Yoon!”

“Hey lovely.” He wraps his arm around my shoulder and begins to walk out with me. “Hey loser,” I removed him off of me, “how’d you feel about that test?” “Exams are exams, y/n. They’re a piece of cake. How’d you feel?” “It was really easy, it was like she was trying to give us answers,” we both laugh as we kept talking about how inefficient our econ professor is, “She literally made the study guide verbatim for the test!” “I mean do we expect anything else out of her?” He chuckles as I stop in front of the vending machine, “that shit is full of sugars, y/n. That’s no good for you.” I put some coins in and type in the number for powerade, “And? What about it?” I say as I open the bottle, taking a big sip out.

He shakes his head at me and we continue to walk out. The rest of the walk was silent, minus the sound of clocks ticking, doors slamming, and little bits of conversations from the break rooms. I just looked ahead while I felt Jeonghan’s eyes burning through the side of my face. - “So, you doing anything tonight?” Jeonghan asks as we make it out of the lecture hall. “For once, yeah, I am. Why? What’s the main event tonight?” “Just a couple of us were planning on going for drinks and then going to the karaoke rooms. What are you doing?” “I got a date,” I looked at him all smug, we continued to walk to the parking lot. “Who is the lucky guy?” He said with resentment, regretting asking me where I was going. “I don’t think you know him.” “Trust me, I know everyone,” He rolls his eyes at him, “who is it?” “Seungcheol. The grocery boy I talk about,” I cross my arms at him, as he scoffs, “what now, Jeonghan?” “Nothing. You have fun tonight, y/n,” Jeonghan smirks and walks to his motorcycle, “tell Coups I say hi.” “Bye weirdo!” “Bye lovely!” He laughs as he puts his helmet on and drives off. Lovely.

A nickname that’s only ever been said by him. Jeonghan’s been a friend for who knows how long at this point, and trust me, he’s asked me out numerous times throughout our schooling years. He’s attractive, just too much of an asshole for me. Our dads work together, both dominating South Korea’s economic industry. And we are the next in line for their spots, meaning we have nearly every class together. It’s annoying. But Jeonghan is a genius yet a meathead, it still boggles my mind. And he knows Seungcheol and calls him Coups?

Anyways, I find my car, and just sit in silence for 10 minutes. Then, I finally turn on my phone and check to see if I got any new notifications. * From 2hrs ago: (2) snap from shua* *From 5 mins ago: (4) iMessage from gyu*

Oh god, what did they do now?

I unlock my phone and decide to check my snaps from Joshua first. Just stupid picstures of them at work, making me smile a bit.

Then I scroll over to Mingyu’s text.

EMERGENCY! I KNOW UR PROBABLY TAKING AN EXAM BUT CALL ME ONCE U READ THIS! YOUR PARENTS STOPPED BY THE CAFE AND DIDN’T LOOK TOO HAPPY AND ARE LOOKING FOR U Y/N PLS CALL ME

“Oh shit,” I fumble with my seatbelt, buckle myself in and call Mingyu. “Y/N!!!!” “Jesus, Gyu calm down. Tell me what happened, I’m driving to the cafe right now.” “Ok! So! Your dad walked into the cafe, not making a scene and walked into the back and started calling out your name. But it was mine and Joshua’s shift so we were trying to explain to him you were in class, BUT THEN your mom comes in SCREAMING,” Mingyu begins to explain, nearly yelling as well. Telling me how my mom was furious at me for some reason, and kept on saying “where’s that boy? And how does she know him?” And my dad calmly got her out into their car and began to explain to him and Joshua why my mother was furious, “Your parents know about Seungcheol.” “Oh my god.” “I’m not even sure how they know Seungcheol, or how they know your relation with him. But they seemed really upset and good thing we covered for you because they think you have exams all day and shouldn’t disrupt your day,” Mingyu’s voice got quiet as I hear Joshua’s voice in the background, almost arguing with Mingyu, “Shut up, she’s on the phone right now.” “Why did you tell her! The two of them have a date tonight!” “I can hear you two.” I sigh over the phone, “I’m outside the cafe, I’ll be right in.”

I swear to god if Seungcheol’s parents are who I think they are, I’m going to end this. I really can’t have anything nice here.

“Agent Y/LN, show me what you’ve come up with.” You whipped your head around to look at Alex, who had come up behind you and placed a hand on your chair. You jumped a little at the sudden presence but quickly gained your composure. “Were you able to hack into the database?”

“No.” You stated bluntly which made Alex sigh. “They had it locked down tight, and as soon as I made the tiniest bit of progress, they shut it down.”

“Did you at least find some other way?” A grin slowly made its way onto your face. The clacking of keys was heard as you began typing on your computer, random numbers and letters that Alex couldn’t decipher were running across your screen.

“Of course, I did. I managed to get a little bit of the base code that they used for the last one, and you know how nothing is ever gone forever right?” Alex nodded her head. “Well, I used that the base code, put into along with my base code and used that to hack into one of the mainframe computers, I linked my database to theirs. It’s sort of a hybrid To them, it looks like a backup disc, but now we can see everything they see. Everything they type or file or even say, we have got it.”

It took all of Alex to not jump and give you a celebratory smack on the shoulder. Nobody knew how you did it, not even Winn, but they were all grateful for you.

“That’s... Wow! Y/N, you’re fucking amazing. Do we have eyes on them now?” You bit your lip to hold back a proud grin.

“Not physically,” You responded, beginning to type again and pull up something else. “But I found this email, between Kara’s aunt and Lillian, it’s Kryptonian, and I can’t read it.”

“What about the translator?”

“It was able to decode a bit of it, but I’m guessing this dialect is ancient because the translation is broken and doesn’t make sense.” You looked up at Alex who was staring at the screen. “You read Kryptonian, don’t you? Do you think you could decipher what it says?”

Alex was silent for a minute before shaking her head. “No, I can’t.”

Just then, a whoosh of air was heard, a soft thud right after. Footsteps made their way towards you and Alex, but you didn’t pay any attention, you were focused on this email. You plugged different algorithms into the translator, but nothing could give you a clear enough message.

“You have great timing, I was just about to call you.” You kept typing while vacantly processing what Alex was saying. “We need your help.”

“What happened?” You froze, you knew that voice. Your eyes bulged out of your head and your fingers slipped causing you to accidentally erased what you had of the email. Alex explained your current situation to Kara, while you tried and failed to recover the missing fragments.

“Shit!” Your voice rang out. There were no backdoors in your database, you had to start from scratch. “Dammit!”

“Woah there, Y/N! What’s wrong?” Kara’s voice rang out again. A lump formed in your throat, and you placed your head in your hands, disappointment leaving your lips.

“I fucked up and erased what I had of the email, I can’t get it back.” Alex stepped away, knowing that she wasn’t needed anymore.

“Do you still have the email? It’s Kryptonian right?” Kara said as she walked up behind you. You became increasingly more aware of her presence as you nodded your head. With a few clicks and clacks of your keyboard, the email popped up on your screen yet again.

Kara bent down, her head right next to yours while her hands came to rest down on your shoulders. You nearly passed out, holding your breath and trying to not to scream. You tried your hardest not to lean into her, and to lean forward.

“This so cool, Y/N. You did all this?” Kara turned her head a few degrees to look at you, and you looked down at your hands, forcing yourself to be more fixated on them.

You nodded your head, letting out a sheepish “yep” and not daring to look up. You could still feel Kara’s eyes on you, and that made you all the more nervous.

“Don’t get quiet on me now, Y/L/N. This is really great. You were right, it is ancient Kryptonian, most people don’t even study it anymore, let anymore speak it.” Kara reached across your body to grab the pen and notepad that was beside you.

You let out a squeak, followed with an “oh, my god.” You had hoped that Kara hadn’t heard you, but with her super hearing, she probably did. So you had just hoped she would ignore it. She did.

She began writing on the notepad, her head alternating between the screen and the paper. About a minute later, she had a full paragraph accompanied with an address written down.

“They’re going to meet here, Havana’s Hilltop in two days. Apparently, there’s some kind of mass arsenal hidden there, and they’re going to use it to wipe out the city.”

Your head snapped up at that. “Havana’s Hilltop? Are you sure that’s what that says?” Kara stood up and crossed her arms, nodding her head.

“Yeah, I’m pretty positive. Why?” She looked down at you and you immediately averted your gaze yet again.

You started typing on your computer again, scooting closer and pulling up pictures. Alex walked back up to the pair of you, cluing herself in on what you two were talking about.

“Before Lex went to jail, he spent all his time on Havana’s Hilltop. That’s where he engineered all his kryptonite and weapons to take out Superman?”

Alex chimed in. “I thought he did all of that on the White Portuguese, and at his lab.”

You shook your head. “Some of it, yeah, but for the most part, Hilltop was his favorite. He still probably has stockpiles of kryptonite there.”

“And if Lillian and Astra get to it, knowing that Supergirl is coming...”

“Don’t we already have a rapid antidote for Kryptonite, the one Winn engineered?” Kara rubbed at her eyebrows, visibly sighing and trying to keep her composure.

“This time it’s different.” You shook your head, bringing up a diagnostic and a few tests. You waited a few seconds before the test was done, you wanted to punch a wall.

“You’re definitely going to need a new suit.”

“What is that?’ Alex asked. Kara leaned into you again, which made you blush, again. Alex noticed, but she didn’t really say anything. There was a picture of something that looked light rock candy on steroids. It was bulging at the edges, looking like it was alive.

“That, my friend, is Sapphire Kryptonite. That kind would pierce right through yours.

Alex scrunched her face. “There are different types?!”

You nodded your head nervously. “Yeah, as soon as Lex figured out how to genetically modify the original Kryptonite, he had a field day. SK is way more lethal, it targets all your major artery and nerves instead of just the veins. It can shut down your nervous system in minutes. The smallest dose is lethal.”

Kara pressed her face into a stoic expression. Her face hardened while she stared at the image.

“Don’t even think about it, Kara,” Alex demanded while staring at her sister. “It’s too dangerous, we can figure out another way to stop them, one that doesn’t involve you dying.”

“There has to be another way.” Kara hoped. She snapped her head towards you. “Y/N?” You looked at her. “Is there another way?”

You felt Alex’s eyes on you. You darted your eyes quickly towards her and let out another hopefully inaudible squeak.

“Y/N....” Alex warned. “Don’t you dare.” You looked away from Alex, ignoring Kara’s question and focusing back on your hands.

“Alex, stop it. If there is another safe and promising way to do this we will.” Kara moved so she was standing in front of you. She knelt down to be on your level and placed her hands on your knees. Your heart skipped a beat and your breathed hitched.

“Is there another way?” Kara asked you again. You were pretty sure she could hear the banging of your heart and the way your eyes were glued to her hands where they rested on your thighs. “Please, Y/N.”

You sighed, rubbing your face with your hands before nodding your head slowly.

“Hypothetically and probably, yes.” Kara smiled her biggest smile at you, almost leaning in to hug you but stopping herself.

“How?”

“Well it’s pretty simple, we just need another antidote and Kara needs a more vamped up suit.”

“How are we going to pull that off in two days?” Alex pressed. You shrugged like it was the easiest answer in the world.

“Well, not to tell you how to do your job or anything, but you could take a team up to Havana’s HIlltop and get me a sample of the SK. All I need to extract it’s DNA and reverse engineer the effects, use the helix pattern to formulate a new antidote, along with soothing factors and boom.”

They both stared at you blankly, not understanding a word of what you just said. You blushed again before reaching for your phone.

“Winn is out of town but I’m gonna call him. Tell him he needs to come in immediately to make you a new suit and try and come up with another antidote. He should be able to have it done in time.”

“No,” Kara shook her head and stood up again. “You do it, Y/N. You’re way smarter than Winn and this was your idea. It’s time for you to work your magic.”

“I don’t think so.” You started to fold your body in on itself, turning yourself in your chair to face away from the two sisters. “Winn is way smarter than me and he can have it done more efficiently. I don't’ wanna mess up and cause you your life.

“You can do it. Please Y/N.” Kara begged. “I trust you, I believe in your, You got this.”

You thought about it for a minute, weighing the pros and cons. Winn was the one who was more experienced at inventing things, but you were already here and could get started on the work ups quicker. Soon enough, you nodded your head and looked at your crush.

“Okay, I’ll do it.”

You were in your new lab, googles on your face, lab suit around your body and syringe in your hand. Alex had just gotten back from Havan’s Hilltop. She was able to successfully extract a sample of white Kryptonite, but they were definitely on Lillian and Astra's radar now.

You were about to apply a reagent on the sample before the sound of your lab doors opened. You didn’t really pay much attention until the alarms in your lab sounded. You jumped, accidentally squirting too much of the reagent before lifting your head to see who set off the alarm.

“Y/N! What happened? Why can’t I come in?” Kara. Your breath got caught in your throat as you looked at her. You knew you had to get over this crush. You didn’t do much around her, which you hoped that she didn’t notice. Most times you avoided her at all costs. You weren’t really fond of how clammy your hands got and how nervous you became when you were around her.

“Oh! Kara, Hi!” You waved at her before making your way towards the entrance. You smiled at her while taking off your goggles. Kara was standing outside of the glass doors, being pushed out and not allowed inside.

“Hey,” She breathed out, returning the smile that you gave her. “Why can’t I come in?” She spoke through the intercom.

Your ears perked up at her question. You rubbed at your earlobes, a nervous habit you had. “Well, I kinda sorta programmed the door sensors into recognizing Kryptonian DNA. So when you walked in, the door locked down.”

“Why would you do that?” She asked you and you felt your neck getting hot. You rocked back and forth on your feet while staring at the floor, another nervous tick. “Y/N?”

“I just- I don’t-” The word got stuck in your throat, so you took a deep breath, thinking about what you were going to say before you actually did. “I’m dealing with pretty lethal stuff. For you at least. This isn’t like other Kryptonite. It’s more complex, more stubborn and I’m just taking the most possible precautions. As you can see there’s an airlock.”

You gestured toward the space between Kara and yourself. “That brushes and takes off any residue of the Sapphire Kryptonite so that I’m not exhaling it or spreading it when I leave. I do not want Alex to kill me for accidentally killing you.” You raised your hands in mock surrender. “No, ma’am.”

Kara looked at your fondly, biting her lip to hold in her smile. Nodding her head, she swept her head back from in front of her face. “Are you sure that’s the only reason you made it? To keep Alex off your back?”

You opened your eyes in disbelief. “Have you met your sister? You may be used to her but she scares the living hell out of me.” Kara laughed wholeheartedly at that, tossing her head back before staring at you.

“I’ve met her. But if you say so, I’ll believe you.” She smiled at you. “I’ll let you get back to your ‘labbing’ then, have fun, love.” You visibly froze and nearly choked at her words when she walked away. Watching her figure, you couldn’t help but want to keep talking to her.

“Kara, wait!” You blurted out before you had a chance to think. She turned her back away from you, coming to where she just was.

“Yes?” She tilted her head, and you had gotten lost in her eyes, smiling softly before she cleared her throat. You jumped, your cheeks becoming red hot and your hands sweating.

“I um... I also built the airlock because...” You rocked back on your feet again, avoiding Kara’s eyes. “Isortakindahavefeelingsforyouandidontwantyoutogethurtandiwouldbecrushedifyougothurtbecauseofmesoiwantedtodoanythinginmypowertopreventthat.” You said in one breath. You stared at the floor. “I also have your new suit ready.” You smiled smugly before turning around and walking away, hyperventilating with what you just said.

“Y/N.” You whipped your head around, looking her in the eyes and fighting the urge not to melt into a puddle of love. “I would love to see the suit when you're done with the antidote, don’t rush just for me okay? I’ll be fine, you’ll be fine, everything will be a’okay, alright?”

You blushed a little more, nodded your head in agreement. You had to admire, you were a bit disappointed and disheartened that she didn’t acknowledge your confession. Just when you turned around you had heard Kara’s voice again.

“And, you in your science gear and the goggles on your face and your hair on top of your head makes my heart stop everytime I see it.” You blushed again, opting to smile to yourself instead of audibly gushing. You assumed Kara had left because you didn’t hear anything. “I mean it.”

You smiled to yourself, happier than ever before your realized one more thing.

“Oh, Kara! I need your DNA!”

“Are you sure we should be doing this? I mean I- I’m not physically trained, I’m weak and I’m just the tech girl.” You high in the air, secure in Kara’s arms while she flew to Havana’s Hilltop.

The day had come where it was finally time to stop Lillian. After 60 hours of no sleep, all you had wanted to do was go home and rest while Supergirl saved the day, but of course, they had other plans for you.

“Me?”

“Y/N?” You and Winn had voiced at the same time. He had just come back from the future, thrown into a whirlwind when it was filled in on what was happening. He was pleasantly surprised when he found out what you had done. He liked to claim that ‘student has finally surpassed the master,’ but you all knew that you were always the master, and him the student.

“You can’t be serious. Why does anybody have to go? I showed you how to use the antidote, the suit is literally more bulletproof and protected than anything else, the antidote works, why do I have to go?” You began pacing back and forth in front of Alex and Kara. “I’m not strong, I’m short, I’m nerdy, I would never be able to defend myself, I’m clumsy, I might just end up falling off Havana’s Hilltop! This is not a good idea.” You crossed your arms set in your ways while you sat back in your desk chair. “Not a good idea at all.”

“Yeah, for once I agree with Y/N. This is way out of any of our caliber.” Winn interjected. Kara followed suit.

“Alex, they have got a point, there are way too many risks and I wouldn’t want Y/N getting hurt,” she paused and spoke again. “or anyone for that matter.”

Alex groaned. “Need I say this again, Y/N is the only one who can troubleshoot anything if either the suit or antidote doesn’t work-”

“Gee, Alex, thanks for the moral support.”

“That’s not what I meant and you know it. You can hack into the weapons system and override it.” Alex pointed at you and you shook your head, letting out an anxious sigh. “Nobody is perfect. And we have no idea what Lillian and Astra could be up to! They already know we came by once and stole some, who knows what they could have for us.”

“So you want us to walk in blind, with Y/N!?” Kara snapped, glaring at her sister. “We’ve talked about this.” You turned your head towards Kara, confusion taking over your face.

They’ve talked about this? About what? Me?

“I know we have, but I still think Y/N should be there. If anything happens, I will take the blame but Y/N is a vital asset to this whole mission.” Everyone but Alex sighed.

“Fine, but If I die, I’m coming back and haunting you forever.”

“I regret saying yes, I wanna go home. Kara take me home please.” You clung to her body tight, face buried in her neck and body trembling. You were getting close to your destination and your heart was racing.

“Y/N,” Alex chimed in through the intercoms. “You will be fine. You’ve got this okay?” Kara landed a few miles from the entrance. You still didn’t let go, and Kara didn’t try and move you either. She rubbed your back, soothing you for as long as she was able to.

ok so I wanna go into psych as like a career or something, but I always see tumblr complain of "neurotypical psychiatrists™" and all that so I was wondering (yeah wait ok for context I am neurotypical) how can I avoid being the Neurotypical™? not in a "I wish I was underprivileged so I could have something to complain about" ofc (in case that's how I came off) but I think you get what im asking?? hopefully

well the big thing id keep in mind is that you have to Listen to neurodivergent people about their experiences. this might seem simple and straightforward but hooo boy u have no clue how often we are not listened to, how our problems are dismissed, how our understanding of Our Own Mental Illnesses is seen as not as important. the biggest problem w neurotypical psych majors and the like is that they prioritize Their understanding of neurodivergence over what neuodivergent people are saying. like pls just listen!! and dont think that bc u took an intro to psych class like Once u suddenly have a better grasp of what its like to be nd than actual people who are nd. dont lecture nd people because u think u know better than them. dont talk down to us or treat us like we are secondary sources in our own lives. i cannot stress this enough like just Listen and stay in ur lane i swear if u do these two things ur ahead of a solid 80% of neurotypical psych majors already lmfao. and whenever you can please correct your fellow neurotypical people if u see them doing shitty things call them out on it. if u find urself being called out by a neurodivergent person Listen To Them Holy Shit bc as a nt person ur probably gonna fuck up inevitably so Listen when nd people tell u that you did.

this is really the biggest thing. if u really want to assist nd people in any sense youve got to listen to us about our realities. dont dismiss problems because they dont seem to u to be problems. and don’t act like just bc youve meet one nd person youve met them all Like i am but one nd person and someone elses experiences are sure to differ from mine so dont use /my/ experience to tell another person ‘no its not like that’ and also dont use another persons experience to tell me ‘no its not like that.’ whenever possible find a way to give a platform for neurodivergent people Because trust me my dude the neurotypical voice is way Way overrepresented in the field l m f a o find a way to help nd people be heard bc we are often not. boost neurodivergent voices whenever u can. dont speak on behalf of people if u can make them heard directly. also neurodivergent people often have their own communities for discussing stuff and in that case just stay out of them. those communities arent for u..dont intrude or come in thinking u can give advice Or just in any way think ur entitled to neurodivergent peoples communities just bc ur a psych major. and be aware of ableism!! its really such a wide and vast issue that i cant rly hope to cover it in a concise way here but Always make urself aware of things that are ableist and try to adjust ur behavior. being aware of ableism is so incredibly important and u wouldnt believe how many psych students just really fucking arent. im not just talking about the overt ways that everyone can recognize as ableism, but the more subtle ways it often manifests.

also while im alright with answering this question please dont act like every nd person in ur day to day life has to be a Representative and explain every thing to you. we dont exist as lessons to teach neurotypical people so dont demand that we live our Every Second of our lives to teach u. this is different than going into a general setting designed for conversation- im saying like if u know ur friend is depressed dont treat as if they have to like The Representative of Their Disorder every second of the day. take the time to educate urself. also when u do know nd people, dont try to say things like “haha yeah i deal with that too” if theyre detailing stuff that impacts them bc of their mental health p l e a s e dont do that. u might think ur harmlessly relating to them But in fact u are continuing a trend in which symptoms that mentally ill ppl must deal with are “essentially the same” as what a neurotypical person goes through. so So often symptoms are met with “everyone goes through that” and its just simply not true so dont perpetuate that.

please Please dont do the thing that i see so many nt psych majors do where theyre all “i want to get into this field because the mentally ill people are so Fascinating :) their brains are so Interesting to examine :)’ bc it feels so… dehumanizing i think is the best word. there is ways to phrase a desire to learn more and educate urself about human psychology Without sounding dehumanizing. one of the biggest issues in the field is the way neurodivergent people are treated as less than human. watch out for the way u discuss neurodivergent people and Ask urself if the way ur talking sounds like youre discussing cattle. treat nd people as less than human is probably one of the biggest and most ingrained issues in the field so keep it in mind pretty much always. and please Please especially dont turn this mentality onto ur nd friends. dont try to psychoanalyze them out of nowhere like that not every single nd person u meet exists to be a Study for u. on top of that its really othering. nd people are in fact People so treat them as such. we’re not case studies for u.

also (and this is true for literally every nt person regardless) dont try to pull the ‘we’re all a little bit depressed xD’ or ‘nobody is Really neurotypical we’re all different’ bc all it does is delegitimize the specific experiences that nd people have had for being neurodivergent. like No we’re not all “a little ___” and by claiming so u erase the things that we have to deal with Specifically for being neurodivergent by pretending its a thing that impacts people equally. and also other general nt things to keep in mind- advice like “drink some water and do yoga” is 100% entirely fucking useless literally always i can guarantee u nobody wants to hear it.dont claim you support nd people and then turn around and support ableist ways of thinking/humor. dont…please just fucking dont…. do the stuff like “Heres the mental illness that donald trump (or any bad person) has xD” please stop equating being mentally ill with being a fundamentally bad person. really in general stray away from giving anyone unwanted advice and dont think that whatever courses youve taken make u an expert on any individuals neurodivergence more than they are.

I have held a full uk driving licence for 14 years.......my husband (who has a provisional licence) was put on my new policy last year as a named driver. Today, he passed his test, so to keep it all legal, i contacted the insurance to advise of change of circs. On 7/24 I was at a Dairy Queen drive thru the person behind me hit the truck I was driving. I was looking at her in the rear view mirror the entire time. She had a cigarette hanging from her mouth that was unlit and she eventually backed up after hitting me. I got out of the truck and looked and I did not see any damage. She then said I didn't move you hit me I then told her No I did not hit you I am in front of you and this truck was never in reverse. Since there was no damage to the truck I did not bother getting any of her information since it was not my fault. On 7/27 I got a call from the police saying she told them I hit her. I gave them my side of the story and they said she had a witness who was a passenger in her car and they will be in touch. I also let them know I had a witness as well. The cop called me back yesterday and wanted to get my insurance information so her and I could exchange information. My question is do I have to give my insurance information to this cop? I did not hit this woman and I think she is trying to get one over on the insurance company. The cop said yesterday I'm surprised the truck does not have any damage because her car does have damage. This truck was a rental truck which was inspected at the time it was dropped back off at the rental company obviously there was no damage to it. One year ago my wife was taking our daughter to pre-school turning left out the end of our road in to traffic, this road has a speed limit of 35 mph. Traffic had to stop to let her cross the first lane since it was solid cars, vans and small trucks. As she approached half-way, before getting a good view of oncoming traffic, another car took off the front bumper. Note that the center line is interuppted at the cross-junction. The bumper was torn from the front of the car with damage more evident on the non-impact side of the car than where initially hit, hence my wife had not initiated a turn, just edging forward to see. The radiator was in-tact, but damaged, still mounted to the front of the car. I walked to the site with our other child and took my daughter home; she is fine and I took her to school but still talks of the incident today. My wife stayed at the incident, and was fine (no later issues) keeping real calm and cooperating with police. It took about 2 hrs with police debating which town the incident took place (middle of the road is the divide) and the other driver was concerned about getting home to take a pot off the stove, but seemed medically fine. The driver asked me and the police to drive them home to get the pot off the stove and used my wifes cell phone more than once. They also wanted to drive their car home and leave the scene with a flat tire at one point I presume to attend to the pot. No tickets were issued, no air bags deployed. The other car had a flat front left tire and side damage so the drivers door was stuck shut. Both cars were old, so written off. Over a year later we received a court summons from their attorney and we are being sued for $750,000. Our limit is $100,000 on insurance. The plaintiff is claiming herniated discs and loss of bowel control. We have a 2006 no money down mortgage, so total equity is very much in the red since our home value plummeted. I have no umbrella policy. I am sole income, but was owner of the car my wife was driving. My wife is stay-at-home mom. The remaining $650,000 would be a big problem. Interestingly, we heard that the other driver called our insurance and asked for a >100-fold lower amount of money to just go away! Our insurer recalls this very clearly and did not pay. Questions: Should I invest in an attorney to work with our insurers attorney to cover the $650K over our limit? Do we have any case given the car the other driver may have been in a rush (as all were aware of the pot on the stove), would have settled for far less, and in reported safety tests should avoid an obstacle at 55mph let alone at the speed limit of 35 mph? Their case, as I understand, is to actually prove my wife was negligent, she was just trying to see. Reality and the law are complicated I understand. Our insurer is looking in to the validity of their medical claims. I believe for spinal and neck injuries plaintiffs have to follow careful insurance approved treatment plans in NJ. I know that such a condition may not be permanent with curative surgery possible to release the nerves that may be causing the bowel issue. The plaintiff has claimed the injury as permanent, do they need to prove this? Should we ask experts? The plaintiff lives in our town and their house is on my running route every other day. I have not noted anything at all and plan to stay away from all other parties. Should I change my running route? Thanks for any advice. Our 30 day clock is ticking.""
