I've had this plant for three years now, and it has finally flowered! This is 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘻𝘪𝘪, a Carrion Flower native to Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. The flower mimics rotting meat both in appearance and smell to attract flies who pollinate it. These plants love well-draining, miniral-rich potting mixes; and need to dry out between watering. I'm too awake in a bad way - it's nearly midnight and I have work at 7:30 AM tomorrow; I'll be weeding plants and I really can't be tired for that - I don't want to let my tears soak into the soil, lest they provide water for the next generation of creeping, invasive vines. Long sleeves in the heat, long pants in the heat, glasses in the heat, and my dad's free BHM Airport hat that says inside PLAY HARD TRAVEL OFTEN with planes. We live nowhere near Alabama. And we'll be tearing them out root by root. The plants that strangle and choke the other plants, the ones that kill the abundance of deer (there's so many that deer can't find enough food so they waltz into the yards of rich people and eat their landscaping, ribs visible, with the doe and buck and fawns, at risk). It's to protect the mayapples that kill you if they're not eaten when they're perfectly yellow-citrus ripe, that were used as ritual suicide material. It's to protect the carrionflower, the one that smells like rotten meat to attract its sole pollinator (flies). Carrionflower is a greenbriar with no thorns, so deer love to eat it - the half-dead, near-skeletal, urban forest dwelling deer chow down on a flower that smells like a corpse. Yesterday - which was today a few moments ago - the group built a fence. And I wasn't there. My eye was itching when I woke up - it was nearly crusted over, and I'd caught the infection from my mother. I wish I was there and I wish death herself wasn't everywhere I thought so that I could have a bit of solace. But no, I have to torture myself in a cyclical mental labyrinth
