Fun fact about me…I didn’t know the Iroquois was a confederacy of native tribes and not a tribe itself until I played Assassins creed 3.

The Mc of the game was from the Mohawk tribe and they heavily pointed out the differences. Hell I even learned about the sub tribes within the Mohawks.

Hell there are two colonists npcs in your home base that have a argument what the Iroquois is. Which make me believe a lot of devs didn’t know too until they did research.

Also it made me go “Oh that why we talk about the mohawk and Cherokee a lot during colonial era”

Didn't know AC had anything set over here at all let alone in that time frame, neat.

I remember the first one showing up and I was amazed by what the gameplay looked like.

And ya, just like everywhere else humans popped up in areas with semi limited resources or various environmental challenges that limited the size of any one particular group, clan, or tribe they formed little confederacies to maintain trade and peace to a extent.

As is usual it was linguistic mostly, Algonquins were/are a confederacy of tribes that speak a common (enough) tongue, you read through or watch Last of the Mohicans our heroes are in the Algonquin camp and on the other side got the Huron who speak a Iroquois based language I think at least it's been a while and I don't feel like looking too hard so face value here don't quote me on specifics.

But ya they liked to team up for trade and such and also there was the occasional attempt at genocide of the other confederacies or just individual tribes because that's just how humans be, we can't seem to get along for long periods of time.

We also will form societies wherever we go, which probably annoys the shit out of the anarchists any time they open a history book, if they ever do.

Antique shops are cool, always count me in when going to those. Voodoo is really fascinating to me, along with dark magic. I'm into really dark things, kinda? I love skulls, or skull figurines. Fossils are really rad and unique. Don't even get me started on culture shops - im obsessed.

IIRC the protag of AoE3's first campaign was supposed to be Scottish, so I assume the devs thought they'd emphasise that by making all his troops and villagers etc speak Gaelic (despite him never speaking it himself?)

Yes, all of his dialouge is in “generic Scottish accent” that americans are taught at acting schools, and he does say that he’s Scottish once, but his command prompts are in Gaelic. The villagers use Gaelic with the exception of the scots word “Richt” which occationally appears. But the other Maltese units appear to speak Maltese, or at least a latin language that is neither Spanish or Italian that I presumed to be Maltese.  The policy seems rather senseless to me - it’s as if the characters are all Braveheart lowlanders who happen to speak Gaelic as a second language (because the emphasis on some of the words is off, it was clearly not recorded by fluent Gaelic-speakers, although they must have had some help, because it’s not gibberish, unlike most attempts at including Gaelic) - or maybe the characters are actually supposed to be speaking Gaelic to eachother but they represent it as English - they do that with other languages too, characters who're clearly supposed to be using Cherokee speak English to eachother, so maybe that's what's going on.

Happy start of the Halloween season, guys!

I just put up two new posts on @monster-trail-dev, one about a gallery show we hosted at school, and the other about my trip to Cherokee, NC. There are lots of photos on that one and I think the text is interesting enough, so check it out if you’re into travel diary stuff.

I just wanted to post an update since I haven’t been too active lately - this year I won’t be doing inktober (not enough time) but maybe this month I can try to do one decent sketch for the Monster Trail pilot every day? Since that’s my senior project it’ll actually be helpful for school. We’ll see. I’m hoping some more sketches will go up on the sideblog later tonight.

Also, my goal was to post a draft of the Monster Trail pilot script today. I’ll probably miss that deadline but I really do want to have a draft up in a few days for y’all to read, especially since my Fall Break is this weekend and that’ll be a good time for me to make edits and start page thumbnails. So I’m trying to get it up soon!
