The Chicago Hub Improvement Project has been massively scaled back, only receiving 93.6 million dollars put of the 800 million requested, this will cover the cost to improve the station such as replacing ventilation systems, adding a new platform and bringing CUS to ADA standards BUT will not allow for the new tracks and speed increases promised by CHIP. There is still a chance the track changes that make the project so important get funding later on, but currently CHIP is much less exciting than proposed

So I’m on a train, a ten hour ride, and not only do they not have a dining car for coach (only a sit down diner for first class which costs 50$) but I’m not allowed to have my carryon near me. I’m the only one. I’m not allowed to move seats even though it’s empty. I’m the only one. Guess what’s separating me from the crowd today? IM THE ONLY FUCKER WEARING A MASK!
Also unrelated but I purchased a lower level seat because of my health problems which make stairs, especially jostling ones, very painful/impossible. Because of my age they decided to switch my seat out with an old man. Didn’t even ask if I needed it or if this was okay.
Also also, I have audio processing disorder so as I had to ask several times where the train was coming from I got YELLED AT BY STAFF!! TWO TIMES THIS HAPPENED
So anyway, avoid Chicago’s union station if you fucking can. Literally pick anywhere over here I don’t care if it adds five days onto your trip.

Chicago Union Station. This has to be one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever been in. I've never really been interested in architecture but seeing this might have changed that.

Big News from the Glorious state of Illinois, we have a 900 million dollar investment in Chicago and Chicago union station, it will reroute trains onto the St. Charles Airline Bridge, making trains from the south have a more direct connection to Union Station, adding a new Amtrak station in Juliet, Double tracks the rails between Niles and Dowagia, and add in more Passenger Platforms by taking from existing postal platforms
