Okay, so this was really hard to just pick one, so I'm absolutely welcome to being retagged. But for brevity's sake, I went with Mitr'óq'thisoá, core name: Róqthi, from my AU August soulmate prompt fill. He's a chiss oc named with @shakespeareaddict's amazing chiss naming process.

Favorite Movie: In a galaxy far far away? His favorite is definitely some goofy chiss martial arts film. In our galaxy... probably a Jackie Chan film. The Spy Next Door, maybe.

Favorite Season: Winter. Róqthi annoys the fuck out of his husband by insisting it's not really that cold out and wearing shorts in the snow. Eriadu winters are a lot milder than Csillan winters.

Something He Finds Annoying: The smell of cedarwood. He hates it.

How He Spends Lifeday: Flirting with the non-family lifeday party guests (Róqthi is a bit of a flirt and he and his husband are poly). If he's seriously interested, Róqthi and his husband might go on a date with the man later in the evening.

Instruments: No. Just No. He tried once. Thrawn has banned him from making another attempt.

Favorite Meal: A plate of oysters and a Daiquiri. He likes a lot of sea food but Róqthi's very possessive over his oysters. He is also a very big fan of cocktails. Something that contains his favorite seafood and his favorite cocktail? Very big hit.

Video or Boardgame: Róqthi loves this very obscure game that involves naming famous paintings and pretending to be an art collector. Sadly, it requires four people and no one will play it with him and Thrawn anymore.

Birthday: If he's on the ISD-Zephyr, not really beyond a few holocalls and gifts. If he's at home, he gets a big birthday party and flirts with all the guests.

Bedtime Routine: If Róqthi's at home with his husband, he showers, gets Cormac to braid his hair, ambles aimlessly around the room until Cormac finishes changing and gets into bed, and then immediately joins him and falls asleep. If he's on the ISD-Zephyr, he tends to shower, throw his hair up in a messy bun, and bury himself under a mound of heated weighted blankets

Someone They Spend Time With: In this Au, Thrawn has a number of Chiss protoges after the formation of an Imperial-Ascendency alliance. Thrawn mentors him a lot and also critiques Róqthi's paintings.

A little brainworm I got at work yesterday but: We were playing some random Christmas music("Love" working at a grocery store in Nov/Dec, Xmas music started Nov 5th) and there was some sad Christmas love song about how how could it be Christmas time he didn't have his lover? The song is very eh.

But it got me thinking about how Thrawn must have felt that year or two after he sent Eli to Ar'alani because Eli taught him all the Lesser Space holidays and they must've celebrated them for some 12, 13 years together, sometimes on Coruscant, sometimes with shipmates, probably some Lysatra and Chiss holidays just the two of them. Observed sacred days, laughed over how the ships got over romantic days, exchanged gifts with friends(Admittingly, mostly Eli) and each other one the correct holidays, shared meals with others, made Lysatran food together, got drunk on new year's eve together, attended gala for Empire Days. And suddenly he was alone.

But it was the loneliest kind of lonely. The kind where he had Faro and Pyrondi and Hammerly and the rest of the bridge crew making an effort to do group holidays to fill the gap but it still feels so lonely because Eli taught him all of these traditions. The foods to eat, the things to say, when and who to give gifts to. And so he observes it all, but doesn't celebrate because it doesn't feel like the past years. He quietly celebrates the Lysatran holidays with more care in private. The Chiss holidays feel just as lonely as they did during his exile years. Thrass' death anniversary wrecks him that year.

It's a very lonely year that he tells himself he signed up for and he knew was coming so he tells himself he doesn't get to complain. That doesn't make it easier. For him or the people seeing him suffer.

I may play around with this idea more. idk. Feel free to work with it.

I really, really hate Christmas. Call me a Grinch, call me a Scrooge, I don’t care. I don’t want to celebrate it, I don’t want my family to drag me to church, I don’t want Mariah Carey screaming in my ears every five seconds, and I don’t want to have to waste hundreds of dollars buying crap that my family will end up thanking my mom for anyway. 

Give me back my spooky scary Halloween skeletons any day.

The one thing I have to say about the Thrawn fandom is that it's definitely the healthiest fandom I've ever been in. There's a few trolls, but it's nothing like the others I've been involved with.

There's also a remotely low amount of shipping wars. Like you ship Thrawn with Ar'alani? Cool! You're a Thranto freak? Awesome, me too! You ship Ar'alani with Wutroow? Pass the link!

I have a bunch from tabletop and freeform RP; my most recent/active is a Chiss for a Star Wars MUSH named Droc'sio'ten. He's a member of the CEDF that was sent to lesser space to investigate what happened to Thrawn and has only a cursory grasp of Basic and the customs of the people around him. Hijinks ensue.

The first thing I engaged with on the internet was a star wars rp chatroom that was way more chat and less rp. I'm still interested, and still friends with someone I met there; I've known them half my life, which might as well be forever as far as internet friendships go.

While I was in college I volunteered for a program that would respond to incidents of sexual assault and abuse. If you were on call you got paged and went to the hospital to check in and offer information and support to the victim, often it was just sitting and talking with them so they weren't alone. I got a call once at 2 am or something and ended up staying with the person until 8 or 9 am. I didn't do much but be there, but I was able to make a horrible situation a little better for them, and help them feel a little safer by being there.

I also used to judge doves and pigeons for the county fair.

My husband and I are setting up a Christmas tree for the first time (even though we've been married for a decade). He is Ukrainian and was telling me about the Christmas Spider; I surprised him with a Christmas Spider ornament to put on the tree. His happy reaction to it made me smile.

What was Ava’s first Life Day with the Oppress family like? I’d imagine he wouldn’t be too familiar with Life Day from what I gather. I just can see his reaction being similar to that of Jack from Nightmare before Christmas asking “What’s this? What’s this?”

Oh yes the little Chiss from another galaxy far far away would be very confused and turned upside down by the hub bub about him. He tries to follow Danica's excited chatter as she keeps coming in with boxes and more boxes full of sparkling items. He is more confused when Maul brings a tree to Danica's room? Why would she want that? It did not have roots!

The poor little Chiss doesn't even have the words to ask what was what? It isn't until Starlight comes around with a big book in their arms that and sits on the bed. They pat the space next to them and little Ava climbs up.

"you must forgive them they get too excited for their own good, soon it will be life day a day full of celebration in our home, of course, it will be a little different this year" a sad smile as they recall one child is gone from home.

They clear thier throat and blink away tears that threaten to spill, "Now little Ava, listen close and I will try to tell you about Life Day,"

Air: What’s the easiest part of writing for you?

Character voice? Can that be a thing? I hear my characters, or I do most of the time. It feels sometimes like they’re dictating. I’ve had walk-on extras become more significant (and give themselves names, for crying out loud) because they decide to expand their role and give me a clear voice to write. I realize this sounds psychotic, but I trust other writers get it.

I hate it when I lose that voice for a minor character. I don’t always have enough to read to get it back.

Those characters who show up so easy can be flat or repackaged from earlier work or lifted whole from someone else’s. I have to watch for stereotypes. But these things can be fixed in edit if I don’t catch them early and adjust accordingly.

“Voice” isn’t restricted to dialogue. It’s their word choice and emphasis, an accent if they have one (compared to whatever is standard in their world. No one has an accent in their hometown), and all that kind of dialogue related stuff. But it’s also (for me) the things they notice, the topics they discuss, the way they see other characters, their appearance and style, how they expect to be treated and how they are treated by others. All those things that bleed into descriptions and movements and set dressing and interaction. 

Spirit: What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received on your writing?

On one of my F!Agent fics, a person commented that “I write Chiss as though I am one” which I really liked. To me it felt like I showed someone a different perspective and communicated it well. On a review of The Death of all Things, (I know, I know, don’t read the reviews!) the reader wanted to know more about the couple in Raveling, which was my story in the anthology. It was only a snapshot of their world, but for that reader at least, the characters existed in a larger context and they wanted to see more of that context. Again, I felt I successfully transported a reader somewhere else, if only for a little while.

Since that’s something I value in the books I enjoy most myself, these comments are the ones I liked best. I gave others the kind of experience I want from reading.

Winter: Have you ever written a story based on a holiday?  If yes, which holiday was it for and what was it like?

I wrote a crackfic for “Sithmas,” a made-up alternative (I think by @exvind ) to the Star Wars Thanksgiving/Christmas derivative “Life Day.” It was twelve posts made by Darth Infodump, a recent emigree from the Empire to the Republic under some kind of witness-protection and/or rehabilitation program, in which he recites and explains the verses of the traditional carol “The Twelve Days of Sithmas,” as well as detailing a rivalry with a linguist at the Coruscant Historical Museum and plans to remodel his apartment. It was complete and utter silliness and I had much fun with it. 

Searching Sithmas on my blog (or clicking the link here) actually brings up all the posts. Shocking for tumblr, where it’s easier to search google for your own posts :/ .

I can’t recall any others, fanfic or otherwise.

Also! If you are curious, I also know quite a bit of Jedi/Sith lore from the Old Republic era back. Ship schematics (every ship in the star wars universe are my babies, I go feral for the different times and its Christmas to me when they introduce a whole new ship).

I also know a lot about Miralan, Togruta, and Chiss!

I guess the short of it all is, Star Wars has consumed my entire life and I know WAY to much about it.

I even know about the logistics behind the (albiet bullshit) return of Palpatine. Legends actually gives a great reasoning and its so fun to look up. The sith were crafty litte fuckers.

Yooooo nice!! I like to think I’m pretty versed in Star Wars stuff in the eras covered in the movies (though to be fair I’m significantly less so about the sequel trilogy era lmao) but hell yeah! Despite being a BioWare devotee I haven’t played any of their Star Wars games which I feel like I should because they are quite loved . Hard agree on the Sith thing tho I used to read the Star Wars Legacy comics from dark horse and . Frankly my feelings about Darth Talon should’ve been one of the many times in my formative years I should’ve realized I was queer but that is neither here nor there

Having a mini fan fiction moment.

Do Chiss do Christmas?.... Not specifically, they have studied the traditions of the humans on Earth or Tereah that remind them of their own mid winter festivals, which follow the mating season and fire festivals, a time to celebrate the renewal of the year, the harvests, the spawning of the fish shoals, (on the various colony worlds) to celebrate the new year, new life and remember those who have passed. Traditionally they hold parties, feasts and markets with music and gift giving, while encompassing the traditions of the other sentient life they share their worlds with.
