Couple mends I did yesterday.
Noticed a hole in my glove earlier in the day so that's the snowflake, then the other day found a hole in my 2019 Halestorm tour shirt so patched that up with their symbol in the ace colours (under the black bit), it's got another hole in the side but it's where the seam is so just going to go over that with my sewing machine.

first attempt at visible mending. i started with stitching the edge of the hole and a denim patch (blue thread). i wanted to do a criss-cross pattern with the purple and green thread but the lines i drew on were hard to see so i ended up free-handing a lot.
i used embroidery thread because that's what i have on hand. i'm not sure if that the strongest option but if the stitching breaks, i'll just try again. the wrinkling in the denim bothers me a little; it's not so bad on the knee but i think for mending the inner thigh area it will be an annoying texture :p

A question to all sewists. I have been asked to mend these jeans, I have never mended jeans before. What would be the best way to go about this and are they even salvageable?

Mending a torn coat pocket
I've got this black wool coat as a gift when I was 18 years old (my mum and grandma and greataunties pooled together for Christmas), it's from an Austrian designer and really well made. It's floor length and got a big hood aswell!
I've now owned this coat for 17 years already! It's expected to have some wear and tear. This year the one pocket finally tore apart and I had to do a repair job. I've decided against a new black pocket and did it in this gorgeous ornamental purple fabric.
I carefully seam ripped the old pocket, traced it onto paper and cut the new one. Pinned it in place and went to handsewing. I first stitched the pocket on, then carefully folded the seam allowance back and whip-stitched that down aswell. I like that I now have a repaired pocket and a hidden beautiful detail!
Bonus: my cat turning into a demon yawning.

I love seeing mending on clothes because it means the clothes have been used. They have been useful. And they are so useful that the owner wants to continue using them. Like professor’s jackets that need patches where the elbows have worn thin resting on a desk, or pants with patches on the back pocket because the wallet was sat on so often, or socks with darning on the heels.

Local insomniac and amnesiac accidentally scare the ever living daylights out of each other for completely different and very personal reasons.
I like the headcanon that the chain end up sharing and learning each other's songs! (Whether on purpose or by accident in the case of Legend here. It also ties into how Wild knows a bunch of their songs in totk!)
As usual, there's some extras under the read more!
I started coloring and then decided not to! Anyways- Pink Link Pink Link! Wind and Legend are crafting~ Wind's making what I know from camp as a pirate's rope bracelet >:) (though the actual name of the craft is kumihimo!)

Short post cause at somepoint I'm gonna do a post with just all the ones I've done.
Sock darning is so satisfying
Like I'm still not doing it the neatest but I don't really care, most people aren't gonna see them anyway, but I love patching my ace socks with green thread and my aro socks with purple thread.

I'm slowly going through my mending pile and darning away. It's very mediative for me (when I'm in the right state of mind). I've included some before pictures and then "after" darning.
You might think "why bother?". Mending your clothes can have many reasons. For me it's that I'm
very attached to all my clothes emotionally
want to make the most of the resorces used to create them & honour that & prolong their life as long as possible
new clothes cost money again
You also have to invest time and mental stress into finding the items you're looking for.
So I will repair as long as I can :) I'm showing my clothes love & care because they deserve it!

Ripped cuffs!!
This was my dad’s jacket once upon a time, now passed down to me. It has lasted the trials of time, through many years of wear and tear, only to start breaking down. Everything breaks eventually; everything will break down to nothing at some point.
Us thrifty dumpster people? We know how to get the absolute longest use(s) out of anything.
Naturally, my hoard of cloth scrap is going to be put to use. I have an old square of fabric that matches the original jacket’s color nicely sense I refused to toss it. It’s not strong enough on it’s own to act as a replacement, so I’m going to layer it on top of another stronger jacket-like material.

Visible Mending
My grandmother sews up the elbows of my shirt.
Patched and patterned, in garish colours
Outlandishly clear. A kind of cloth kintsugi, saying
This is not that which was here before.
Ostentatiously altered, openly repaired,
A virtue signal, I accept, but will not apologise for.
I walk the streets with solarpunk written on my arms.
Andrew sews up the flaps of my skin.
Carefully sutured, his steady hands
Bear a duty of care. These marks will scar and harden,
Swallow stitches and leave stretch-pleats.
Even when the scabs have fallen,
I stand with a form all fixed and modified,
A body I stayed with, laboured over,
Though I could have chosen to throw it out.
I stand before the mirror with trans written on my chest.
Lined and changed, my biohacked body
And rescued clothes speak prophecy to a future
As yet unnamed. I carry them both as a promise.
One on the other, endlessly whispering,
Visibly mended and always the proof
That redemption is worth the price.
I rub oil into my scars and ask
My grandmother to teach me how to sew.
