1. road rage synopsis
let’s head straight for the billion-dollar question: “what is this blog for anyway, and what the hell is Twisted Metal: Road Rage?”
technically that’s two questions, but we can provide the answer.
basically, Twisted Metal: Road Rage is an unofficial, fanmade entry to the long-running Twisted Metal franchise — the PlayStation staple about cars, explosions, wacky characters, and the wishes of these wacky characters. it is set in an alternate continuity that combines elements from most of the games, such as the classic series, Twisted Metal: Black, Twisted Metal 2012, and a little bit of the 2023 TV show. there are several returning characters from across the franchise as well as new characters with new vehicles and backstories, so you can expect a huge roster!

3. blog rules
no explicit/NSFW asks in the inbox. we can accept angst or blood, but if the content is offensive or sexually explicit in any way, shape, or form, we are deleting it.
headcanons are absolutely accepted! by all means please tell us what you think, but we will delete and block anything that has to do with incest, 18+ material, drama, or hot-button political opinions/debates. basically an add-on to rule #1!
racism, queerphobia, and ableism are not allowed. this blog is a safe space, and you are not welcome if you have an intolerance to people just existing.
we’re not a meme source, people; we’re a fan blog that creates our own original characters and content. so please for the love of Calypso don’t steal or repost shit!! please reblog gif sets and the like from the source! stealing is not okay and we don’t wanna hear excuses.
one of the admins is a college student and the other is still in high school, and we also run our own individual blogs. with that in mind, there will be times that there's no activity here. we'll try to fill up the queue beforehand if we expect any prolonged absences, but no promises! our queue tag is "thank queue for playing". if you don't see your submission or ask posted, chances are a) we're working on a response to it, especially if it's a headcanon, writing or similar b) we haven't logged in to see it yet c) it's been received and is already in the queue or d) it violates any of the rules posted here and we've deleted it. don't send us messages asking where it is. that gets annoying.
rule #2 kind of covers this, but respectfully, don't come in here to tell us about drama related to any faceclaims seen on this blog or vent your personal opinions about these people. you might think you're doing us a favor, but you're really not. all that does is make everyone uncomfortable and no one wants that. we'll avoid using faceclaims that we personally are uncomfortable with, but don't police our content based on your preferences. anything we get related to this will be deleted and you will be blocked.
art, edits, etc. of our characters are totally okay as long as you ask first and give us credit! we'd love to see your work, but like we said in rule #4, stealing is never okay. we put a whole lotta work and a whole lotta love into this.
4. credits
as mentioned above, our blog uses a theme by octomoosey!
our headers use this template.
5. outro
so yeah, that’s us! we don’t have much else to say except that we hope you enjoy your stay with us in the Garage. feel free to explore and ask away if you have any questions for us.
good luck, drivers, and welcome to the world of Twisted Metal: Road Rage!

The Bloody Pit of Horror (1965)
Last night’s film was the 1965 Italian...er...classic...The Bloody Pit of Horror! The director, Domenico Massimo Pupillo, gave up film making eventually, apparently announcing his “disgust” at his own films, and the lead actor - Mickey Hargitay - is on record as saying that at the time he "wasn't any more of an accomplished actor than a taxi driver", but honestly, I thought it was a silly, campy, fun film that I’d happily watch again sometime.
Tumblr media
This film is ridiculously campy, trashy fun. Read on for gifs and a review...
The film claims to be based on the Marquis de Sade’s writing and opens with this quote...
Tumblr media
Apologies for the quality of these gifs - it’s because the film is in desparate need of restoration. I had to play with my sound settings too to try to minimise a continual hiss :/
Tumblr media
The “based on the writings of” is quite a claim, given that the film is about a photographer and a trashy novelist breaking in to a castle with a group of models so they can do a photoshoot for a horror novel.
Jaunty music plays as the models pose and the whole thing has a feel of a Carry on...film.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Until their sordid cavorting upsets the pious sensibilities of the castle’s resident ghost! Yes, the castle was once inhabited by the infamous ~Crimson Executioner~ and now he has returned to punish those whose spirits and bodies are not pure!
Just in case, somehow, that sounded even remotely menacing, here is what it looks like...
Tumblr media
The Crimson Executioner is played by the Hungarian actor Mickey Hargitay, who was a former speed skater, WW2 underground fighter, and 1955′s Mr Universe. He was cast in a lot of strongman type roles - he’s Hercules in The Loves of Hercules (1960) which was featured in an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, and here he is on the cover of Strength Magazine:
Tumblr media
Anyway, back to The Bloody Pit of Horror! Our masked menace goes about his business with gusto and begins setting diabolical traps...
Tumblr media
It’s a bit like if you were to cross Cube with Carry On or a screwball comedy. His Girl in the Spider Web maybe or Carry on Dying in Ingenius Ways?
Anyway, the Crimson Executioner also gets his torture dungeon back up and running to the edification of all...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A good portion of the second half is just the masked villain running around his dungeon gleefully pulling on levers and expounding on his own perfection. It’s quite something to behold and honestly, his glee is a little infectious. There’s no gore, just splatterings of vivid fake blood and moans and screams that I swear are more orgasmic than anguished.
Tumblr media
As a whole this is not a film you can take seriously at any point. Nothing about it is objectively good per se, but honestly as a whole it was not a bad way to spend 87 minutes.
I should note that according to its Wikipedia entry, one reviewer - Louis Paul - called the film "an exercise in homophobia and the debasement of women masked as entertainment". I haven’t been able to get a copy of the full review so don’t know Paul’s reasoning there. Certainly I think my gifs alone make it clear that the film is strongly invested in showing women first as sex objects and then being tortured which is hardly a feminist ethos, but I think it’s unlikely anyone’s going to read the premise and start the film without expecting that.
The homophobia might be present but if it is I totally missed it. I wonder if Paul is thinking of the villain as an expression of homophobic fear? The Crimson Executioner makes a few comments about women sullying the purity of his body or something to that effect, but I didn’t see any obvious gay coding or spot any hints that he is gay. Rather, it felt to me more like if Hulk Hogan played the Witchfinder General - a mix of strongman vanity (”My body is perfection!”) and puritanical piety (”Sex is evil!”). Anyway, I wanted to note that other viewers have seen it differently because forewarned is forearmed.

A Decade of Horror Recommendations
With 2020 approaching, we’re reaching the end of a decade that has been uncommonly good to the horror genre, especially the last few years. Here’s an overview of some of the stand-out titles and my recommendations. Feel free to ask me about any of the titles on this list and I’ll happily share my more in-depth thoughts on them!
Note that, of course, I have not seen every movie that’s come out in recent years, so I’ve probably missed some titles -- feel free to jump in with your own recommendations!
Also this post is really long and has gifs, so I’m putting it under a cut. Sorry for the dash spam, mobile fam. Tell Tumblr to fix their shit.
Tumblr media
2010: Supernatural Horror Starts Making a Comeback
Some stand-out films:
Insidious: An important film for modern horror history, helping to usher in the new wave of paranormal/hauntings/demon films. It lays the tropes for a lot of the films that would get big in upcoming years. I thought it was pretty solidly decent.
Devil: A clever script about being trapped on an elevator with the devil. It’s a bit too ambitious and doesn’t quite live up to those ambitions, but it’s solidly decent and refreshingly original. A hidden gem for the year.
Black Swan: Maybe the height of Darren Aronofsky’s career as a household name. Not my favorite of his movies, but a pretty solid psychological suspense.
Frozen: No, not that one. This is a clever movie that embraces a narrow scope: some teenagers get stuck on a ski lift and have to endure the elements and some hungry wolves below. Not a great movie, but worth watching as a study in what you can do with limited resources.
Black Death: Quick shout-out for a dark and grisly historical horror involving witchcraft and torture. It’s not a fun movie to watch, but it’s got Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne, and I feel like both original screenplays and historical horrors are rare enough to warrant support.
2010 also had its share of predictable franchise tie-ins (a Saw movie, a Resident Evil movie, remakes like I Spit on Your Grave and The Crazies, etc.) The Horror Renaissance was a few years in coming.
Tumblr media
2011: The Year of the Predictable Remakes
So many franchises getting flogged to death this year -- tripe like SCRE4M, Final Destination 5, Human Centipede 2, a Hellraiser reboot literally no one watched, and Paranormal Activity 3. Blech. BUT. 2011 also brought us a couple of my favorite movies ever:
You’re Next: I would credit You’re Next with re-defining the “final girl” in horror. Also it’s a damn good home invasion movie with buckets of gore and a smart script.
Cabin in the Woods: This one’s a bit divisive -- some folks really hated it I guess -- but it’s such a loving deconstruction of horror, and it’s wholly original even while being comfortingly familiar. Also it’s hilarious.
Tumblr media
2012: A Few Important Titles
I feel like 2012 was full of movies nobody has actually ever seen or talked about. But some of the good ones that I’d recommend:
Sinister: Like Insidious in some ways, but maybe better.  Also, “Snakes don’t have feet.” Honestly just a very good, solid demon/haunted kid movie.
V/H/S: A must-watch for horror buffs. It didn’t invent the found footage genre, but it did refine it and really show off what it could do best.
Smiley: OK so like. This is not really a great film, but I think about it a lot and recommend it a lot. It’s stuck with me quite a bit somehow, and in some ways it feels very much ahead of its time as a creepy prediction of what internet culture would be like at the end of the decade. “We did it for the lulz.” Seriously, watch this movie today, and remember that it was made eight years ago, and see if it gives you chills too.
I guess I should also mention Prometheus here, which lots of people liked. I was not one of them, but it was a heavily talked-about film I feel like and of course an Alien franchise tie-in.
Tumblr media
2013: The Year the World Remembered It Liked Horror
This was a big turning point year, launching some new franchises instead of just re-treading old ones:
The Conjuring: I personally hate all of these movies, but they are huge and you can’t swing a dead cat in the modern horror fandom without encountering one of them. The first Conjuring film was at least decent. For extra credit, watch it as a triple feature with Insidious and Sinister and do a compare/contrast.
The Purge: Not only the start of a successful franchise but also a pop culture phenomenon and a damn good movie to boot.
Mama: I love this movie. I have this movie on DVD. It’s kind of bittersweet and may not completely follow through on all of its promises, but it’s still quite good and has some lovely performances.
Warm Bodies: Not really a horror -- kind of a romance -- but it warrants mention here because zombies were a hot item in 2013, and that’s a current special interest of mine on account of having a zombie book of my own coming out that is more than a little influenced by this story. (the film is a pretty good adaptation of the book, although honestly you could just skip the movie and read the book and get a better experience.)
Willow Creek: I feel like I recommend this movie a lot, but that’s just because I think it’s very good and a very smart use of its own resources. A found footage mockumentary that actually manages to make Bigfoot frightening. Totally worth the watch.
Mr. Jones: Here’s another hidden gem, also in found footage style (I feel like that was a prevailing theme in the years after V/H/S) but it’s surprisingly fresh. It’s a folk horror piece that doesn’t go at all where you might expect despite its thoroughly well-trodden ‘couple in secluded house’ setup.
A bucketful of remakes and sequels this year too, including an Evil Dead reboot, V/H/S sequel, Insidious sequel, etc.  I should also probably mention World War Z, which was not actually very good and also had nothing in common with the book of the same name, but does mark an important moment in the mainstreaming of the zombie revival, especially considering it came out the same year as Warm Bodies.
Tumblr media
2014: Fuck Yeah People Actually Like This Shit Let’s Make More
I feel like maybe our current horror renaissance started this year. Some recs:
The Babadook: No surprises to anyone who follows my blog, but I love The Babadook and I will defend it to the bitter end against its detractors. It is one of my favorite horror films of all time and one of the best of the decade.
It Follows: Ok confession, I actually did not like this movie at all. I thought it was ridiculous and over-hyped. But it makes the list because a lot of other people really, really loved it, and I accept that they saw something in it that I didn’t. Watch it and make up your own mind (and report back with your findings).
As Above, So Below: This may be the most claustrophobic film ever made, and it deserves to be studied on that merit alone. It’s also pretty creepy and I suspect a lot creepier for folks who are unnerved by Christian horror/mythology (I am not, but I know lots of folks really are).
Housebound: A hidden gem from New Zealand, this one is worth a watch because it takes a familiar haunted house premise and gives it a surprising and honestly delightful twist.
Jessabelle: Not a great movie, but deserving of a spot here because it’s a Southern Gothic and features a main character in a wheelchair, which I think is neat.
13 Sins: I feel like I’ve written about this movie for the blog before, and I recommend it a lot. But it’s clever and is a great early example of the “killing game” genre that has become increasingly prevalent (I mean, aside from the Battle Royale/Hunger Games version).
It was neat to see so many original horror stories (as opposed to reboots/franchises) coming out, and that’s a trend that would continue (and is something that makes horror one of my preferred genres - there are more original stories in it than in many other types of film).
Tumblr media
2015: Hell Yeah Let’s Ride This Horror Train
So many excellent movies this year! Ahh!
Crimson Peak: Guillermo del Toro’s love letter to the Gothic. What I love about this movie (aside from Tom Hiddleston) is it plays all the tropes straight. It’s not trying to be a new spin or reinvent the genre or break all the tropes. It’s just a gothic horror story, told exactly like what it is, by a guy who makes damn good movies. I felt like that was really brave and surprising at the time.
The Visit: M. Night Shyamalan had basically made a joke of himself after a string of awful movies, but this movie was enough to earn back a bit of respect in my book. It’s a clever premise and a smart use of found footage.
The VVitch: Creepy-ass slow-burn supernatural historical horror, sign me up. I actually don’t like this movie as much as a lot of people (see above: religious-themed horror doesn’t push my fear buttons much) but it’s beautifully made, thoughtful, and artistic in a way that makes people sit up and pay attention to just how good the horror genre can be.
Krampus: This movie is extremely silly and I love it. A holiday favorite I watch every year now. It’s hilarious, and imaginative, with some really creepy visuals and a thoroughly satisfying conclusion.
The Invitation: For me, some of my favorite horror movies are the ones where the film is uncomfortable to watch before the actual horror stuff starts up. This one has an almost unbearably tense build-up and pays off in an incredibly satisfying and creepy manner.
Tumblr media
2016: Horror Goes Hella Mainstream
I feel like 2016 was another year of just...lots of kind of fun unique premises tossed out like spaghetti to see what would stick. And I am here for it.
Don’t Breathe: Home invasion gone wrong is a great trope, and this one gets extra points for having the single most disturbing sequence utilizing a turkey baster I’ve ever seen in film.
Hush: Speaking of home invasions. This one is pretty standard fare -- homeowner fights back! -- but the deaf main character is a neat twist.
Lights Out: It’s pretty cheesy at times and the plot sort of falls in on itself, but the opening sequence is genuinely frightening and the movie almost literally killed @comicreliefmorlock so that’s a commendation I guess?
Train to Busan: An Asian take on the zombie survival story. It’s a really good movie (if horribly bleak) and it does such an excellent job of making you genuinely care for all of the characters.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe: A really neat premise with some wonderful slow-build horror. The storyline kind of goes off the rails, and it asks a lot of questions it doesn’t answer, but it’s quite good regardless.
The Forest: I was disappointed with this one -- it just failed to live up to my expectations -- but it’s decent, and it’s a good attempt at capturing the creepiness of Japan’s Suicide Forest.
Before I Wake: This one was sad more than scary, I thought, but it fits so neatly into a certain aesthetic that I am always a sucker for -- dreams and nightmares bleeding into reality, yes please.
Split: Say what you will, I thought Split was amazing, and James McAvoy deserves a goddamn Oscar for his performance in this movie.
The Monster: A hidden gem that’s worth watching to see how well it delivers on its premise: two characters stuck in a car with a monster outside. It’s not amazing, but it’s neat, and sometimes it’s nice to have just a straightforward creature feature with a bit of emotional heft for good measure.
Tumblr media
2017: Did Somebody Say Blockbuster?
In hindsight, they’ll probably say 2017 was the start of the horror renaissance, but we’ll all know they’re a few years too late. Still, this was another great year:
Get Out: Funny, dark, deeply uncomfortable and with some real meat to it -- Jordan Peele knows how to make a great movie. This absolutely deserves all the awards.
It: Not a perfect movie, but a good adaptation of a difficult-to-adapt book. The kids are great. Pennywise is menacing, but that fucking flute lady is the scariest part.
It Comes At Night: I didn’t like this one much, but a lot of folks did so it makes the list. See above re: It Follows.
Gerald’s Game: Everything that’s wrong with this movie (ie, the ending) is wrong in the original story, so where this movie fails it’s a matter of sticking too close to its source material. But the premise is truly, genuinely horrifying, and the degloving scene almost made me vomit. So that’s cool.
Happy Death Day: Another horror-comedy, with a healthy dose of self-awareness. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s what allows it to be fun.
The Babysitter: This movie is hilarious. It’s also super bloody and clever and clearly made by people who love slashers, and the affection shows.
The Ritual: So-so in the acting and pacing, but the creature design is A+ and the concept is really neat. Seriously just watch this one for the monster, it’s super cool looking.
I should probably mention Mother here, but I can’t speak for it as I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet. It’s a very divisive film. One of these days I’ll watch it and let you know.
Tumblr media
2018: There’s More Where That Came From
If 2016 was the year of filmmakers just trying stuff for the hell of it, 2018 was the year of talented filmmakers and studios realizing that, oh shit, you can make really good horror movies with mass appeal.
A Quiet Place: I’m glad I caught this one in theaters, because it really deserves to be watched in a dark, quiet room where no one dares to make a sound. The ending left a lot to be desired, but it was a clever premise.
Hereditary: The best horror movie of the year imo. Painfully uncomfortable - I’m not sure I could watch it again - but highly recommended.
Apostle: Watch this one in a triple-feature with The VVitch and Hereditary. A really good period piece with a character you actually want to root for.
Bird Box: I didn’t like this movie much, but it was hugely popular. I bought the book recently and suspect it is much better. Still, it’s worth a mention for its impact on mainstream viewers (lots of people who don’t like horror really liked this movie). I won’t budge from my initial opinion that it’s just A Quiet Place meets The Happening, though.
Tumblr media
What Does 2019 Hold?
We’re only halfway through the year, so we’ve got some time to see what is coming down the pipe. Lots of things to look forward to! But some solid titles so far this year that I’d heartily recommend:
Us: Jordan Peele is at it again. It may not be as good as Get Out  -- there’s some plot holes where the internal logic of the world is at odds with the message it’s trying to send -- but it’s thoughtful and gives plenty to chew on. And there are places where it’s just unbearably tense and creepy.
Brightburn: I had high hopes for this movie and was not disappointed. This is a super (ha, ha) good film.
The Wind: A Gothic on the American frontier. It accomplishes what I think It Comes At Night was supposed to do, but more effectively (for me anyway). Bonus points for being written and directed by women. Double bonus: Caitlin Gerard, the main actress, is also the lead character in Smiley.
I have not yet watched Velvet Buzzsaw, Ma or Midsommar this year, but I really want to. I’m also looking forward to the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark film despite having some reservations about the whole concept.

OVERVIEW
Oldest of the Vasile children. Part of the Vasile media empire. Has a PHD. Yada, yada, yada -
Cassius finds humanity draining. He’s what some might call a ‘pure empath’ and he’s not in the least bit thrilled about it. He lives for the three following things: a good case (which is, really, just a good puzzle,) his twin ( possibly the only one that silences the frenetic chaos of his mind,) and the latest object of his interest ( one Dexter O’Shea.)  Oh, and here’s one thing we might as well call out too: Cassius is a serial killer posing as an investigative journalist. Considering how much blood flows through the streets of Chicago thanks to the gangs though, that’s not too hard to cover up.
BACKSTORY
Cassius feels more like the prodigal son than a prodigy, but that's what he's called growing up - a prodigy. He's got a mind for science they say. Biology, physics, chemistry and sociology come easily to him.
He’s a good kid growing up. He’s the envy of the other parents for being ‘so quiet and well-behaved.’ A reputation he carries even now.
He’s prone to fainting spells all throughout his childhood. This causes him to stay indoors with his books.
Earning his degrees are a blur. He skates through each academic challenge with boredom.
As the oldest, it is expected he'd take some sort of interest in his parent's media ventures. He does. Sort of. Cassius starts off writing for and then eventually editing one of Vasile Media's peer reviewed publications.
He gets bored.
He moves on to investigative journalism and this manages to hold his attention for a while longer.
One doesn't need an abusive household or  tragic backstory to be sad. Some are born sadder than others.
Cassius is sad, this is a truth. More than that, his time as a investigative journalist reveals a part of him he hasn’t really understood until that point.
Cassius feels the pain of the living deeply. The dead are no different. He’s what they call a pure empath and the feelings of others flow through him, whether he likes it or not. As a private investigator, one who’s witnessed just a few too many deaths up close in this crimson town, he knows how death feels when it slips inside his skin or lurks near him. He’s been born and reborn, he’s died and died again - hundreds of times. The visions he has while investigating crimes scenes cycle through him. Sometimes he dreams through their eyes - gets so close to cases that he remembers lives that aren’t his, mourns loves he’s never felt. Where death ends and he begins he often can’t discern.
He hates it.
Depression runs deep in this one. It flows like a river. He tries to get rid of his own body  more than once.
One winter night he slits his wrists and the blood flows and flows and flows, till it runs rivers down his body, fills the bathtub he’s in like chalice. It should kill him and yet it doesn’t. He’s saved, by his sister. Anyone else and he would have resented them for it forever, maybe even killed them over it. She is different.
She forces him to live and so he makes peace with the idea of life.
They become team of investigative journalists for one of Vasile Media’s publications, but what starts off as a little stint leads to them starting a private investigation firm together.
They don’t do half bad. They get enough cases to call themselves a business, and earn enough enemies to know that they’re doing something right.
One of his cases leads him to Dexter O’Shea. He meets the other in jail and it’s intrigue at first sight. The Hannibal Lector to his own Clarice Starling if you will.
Except in this verse, Clarice Starling is definitely buying what Hannibal Lector is selling. What start off as consulting visits turn a bit more conjugal.
When Dexter is released, Cassius begins tagging along on his night time adventures.
( And finally, finally, amidst the bloodiness of it all, Cassius finally feels like he’s doing something worth living for.  )
Cassius does his best to keep playing the part of the oldest son for the watching eyes of the world. He does his best to turn away the questioning glances of his sister.
When Camille’s questioning glances became too insistent, he begins slipping things into her drink to help her forget.
The questioning glances stop.
Their investigations together continue.
One of those enemies crawls out of the woodwork. Cassius’ sister Camille, is subject to an attack - in which she lost her tongue. 'Speak No Evil" is the message left behind. The attacker is never caught, and their identity and affiliation remains a mystery to the family. Whomever it is, Cassius just knows there will be hell to pay when he finds them.
PRESENT DAY
Still runs a private investigation firm with his sister.
Still kills with Dexter.
Still is sad.
Pretends to be the perfect son.
OTHER
Basically the personification of that Scar gif “I’m surrounded by idiots”
Quiet. Which, trust me, is better than him speaking. When he speaks its all venom.
Keep his interest and you’ve earned his respect.
He believes in manners.
Loves a good cashmere sweater.
A ‘pure empath.’ As such, can’t speak while around his sister, a woman who’s been rendered mute by a recent attack.
Still hunting down the killer that took his sister’s tongue from her.
Did I just make Will Graham with Harley Quinn’s educational history? I mean look, I won’t tell if you won’t.

When Ghosts Come For Us
Chapter 16
NOTE This is based on the movie Crimson Peak, so if any of the subject matter in that was uncomfortable for you, you will find this similar. I will *NOT* be describing incest in this, it will only be implied, same as the movie.WARNING None.
Also, I do not own any image or gif used in this story.
It was not easy, dealing with an impaired person, but Charlotte was diligent in her work and ensured to spend hours a cleaning, grooming, dressing and caring for Lucille. She spoke of utterly mundane matters, to the extent that she one day simply stated what the workmen used to plaster the walls, just to irk her. She fed her, ensuring she was well cared for, though adding foods she knew Lucille was not overly fond of from time to time, and most importantly, she instructed Thomas to spend time with her also. It soon came to Charlotte’s attention that though Thomas would spend time with his sister, it was more often Charlotte’s company he sought when possible. He spoke with her on any subject he could think of, or on occasion, they did not speak at all, but the silences were comfortable. The one concern was, Charlotte rarely had much time before she had to do something else for Lucille or the house. Feeling guilty, Thomas watched as she kept the house going, tended to Lucille and in many areas, tended to him.
With Lucille no longer able for particular things, he also found his evenings to include more reading, engineering, or as had happened on two of the nights, he went to bed with Charlotte, finding himself looking at her as she gently fell asleep, yearning to be closer to her. With Lucille no longer forcing him to remain aloof, he wanted nothing more than to be closer to Charlotte in every manner.
It had been two weeks since he returned from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne to his sister’s ill health when Thomas looked at his workroom door, having heard Charlotte knock gently on his door. When he opened it, she was looked at him apologetically. ‘Lottie, is everything alright?’
Tumblr media
‘Yes, I just did not want to disturb you.’
‘No, please. You are always welcome to come here and talk with me.’ He opened the door fully and made room for her to walk in. ‘It is not much.’
‘It is important to you.’ She stated. ‘Ergo, it is most important.’ She looked around at the old worn murals on the wall. ‘This was your nursery.’
Tumblr media
‘It was.’ He stood watching her.
‘Were you confined here?’
‘For our entire childhoods, even when a tutor came, it was here I was taught.’
‘Our house was never so grand, but there were a few rooms we were permitted and many we were not, my parents usually ensured they remained in the ones we were not permitted in.’ She nodded. ‘Daughters were not worthy of tuition.’
‘But you read and write?’
‘Nancy, the housekeeper believed every woman should know how to keep her home. I am also proficient at keeping a ledger.’ She smiled. ‘One thing about ensuring the only time they saw us was to hurt us meant that we had plenty of hours to learn such things.’
‘How do you keep smiling, after everything you have endured?’
‘If I am honest, part of the reason I smile is because I know it will anger the begrudgers more.’ She stated. ‘There is a reason I came up to bother you.’ Thomas looked at her curiously. ‘I am going to town for a short time. There are a few things that we ordered that should be in for Lucille and I need to get her a few more things.’
‘You are going by yourself?’ Thomas asked, shocked.
‘You are welcome, of course. But we also have to consider Lucille, she would be so scared here by herself, I think. It is only a few things for Lucille, unless you require anything?’ She smiled. ‘I will also call on the doctor, that medicine to assist her swallowing food is running low, of all of them, I fear that one running out most.’
Thomas gave her a loving look. ‘Lottie, you are so caring.’
She smiled genuinely at him. ‘I think you wrong, but I know Lucille is everything to you, so I will endeavour to assist her however necessary.’
‘I love my sister, and she is dear to me, but she is not my everything.’ He looked at her nervously. I...I love you, most ardently, Charlotte.’ He confessed. ‘I find every day that passes, I yearn more to be around you.’
Tumblr media
Charlotte smiled before kissing him. Thomas immediately reciprocated before becoming more passionate, his hands going immediately to her waist and pulling her to him, her chest to his, his kisses becoming hungrier as his eagerness increased.
‘Lady Sharpe?’ The coachman called up the stairwell loudly, though his voice was a mere echo when it reached them.
Moaning slightly as she pulled away from Thomas, Charlotte looked lovingly at him. ‘I guess I am leaving.’ She sighed. ‘I have fed Lucille, she is cleaned, her hair is done and she will be fine until I return. I left the book I got her in the town beside the bed. I have it marked as to where we are, continue if you wish.’ She leant up and kissed him again. ‘Do you require anything?’
‘No.’
‘Then I will be back not long after lunch. There is food readied, all you need do is reheat it. Or more likely, you will get sidetracked and I will do so on my return’ She smiled, kissing him again before leaving his side and heading to the stairwell.
* Charlotte acquired everything on her list quite quickly, bar what she needed for Lucille’s prescriptions. The carriage headed towards the beautiful house Edward was living in. She looked at it in slight envy, it was, in her opinion, a dream home. Not too big, not to small, a lovely little garden and some vines growing on it. There were no words for how much it pleased her that her previously poor half-brother was able to now have such a home for himself. She hoped the day would come he would have the family he yearned for to reside there with him.
Tumblr media
She disembarked her carriage and walked to the door, smiling at the cat leisurely licking its paw before grooming its ear as she did so. Seeing a human, it rushed over with purpose and rubbed into her leg.
‘Well, hello to you too.’ She beamed as it began to purr. ‘Aren’t you beautiful?’
Tumblr media
‘He’s a fat useless git is what he is.’ An older woman grumbled. ‘What can I do for you Ms…?’
‘Charlotte Sharpe.’ She smiled.
‘Lady...:Lady Sharpe, please, forgive my lack of propriety.’
Tumblr media
‘Please, there is no need to worry yourself. I was just wondering if Dr Thompson is around. I need to speak with him regarding Lady Lucille.’
‘He has just gone to deal with something small, he should be back in a few minutes, please, have a cup of tea while he is waiting.’ The lady offered, opening the front door. ‘And you can stay outside, Rupert.’
It took Charlotte a moment to realise the woman was referencing the cat before she chuckled slightly to herself and walked into the house. ‘I do not wish to be an imposition.’
‘Not at all, your Ladyship, please.’
‘Very well, but only on condition you cease the Ladyship speak, I was not born to such, please, I implore that you simply call me Charlotte.’
‘It is somewhat unconventional, but considering most of those with titles cannot see past them, I respect a woman that rather not be interested in such. How do you like your tea?’
‘With a sugar and a slice of lemon, please, missis….Sorry, I did not get your name.’
‘Mary, Mary Davies. I am the housekeeper for Dr Thompson. He has his tea as you do, actually.’
‘Great minds often think alike.’ She beamed brightly.
‘Indeed.’ Mrs Davies smiled. ‘What is your opinion on shortbread, Charlotte?’
‘Terribly evil stuff, it tests my self-control more than is healthy.’ The older woman laughed. ‘I have none around it. I once ate an entire tray in one afternoon, then to add to it, I drank the most of a day’s milking from a cow with it.’
‘Oh goodness.’ Mrs Davies winced.
‘I was actually fine. I always could eat a lot. It was fine when I was younger, but I fear now I could not do the same.’ She confessed.
‘You are a wonderful change from what I see coming to see the doctor.’
‘Are you working for him long?’
‘I came with the house, so the day he came to these parts.’
‘Is he an easy man to work for?’
‘He is wonderful, polite, courteous, considerate. Not like the last one, oh he was a wicked horrid man, far too fond of the drink, not the least bit fond of the care of his patients.’
‘Oh, that is not right.’ Charlotte shook her head.
‘That, my dear, is the greatest understatement of the century.’ Mrs Davies commented. ‘And how is life on Crimson Peak?’
‘Crimson.’ Charlotte stated. ‘To see red come through the snow is most peculiar, it is somewhat unsettling when I look out in the morning.’
Tumblr media
‘I dare say. We all thought that place would crumble. Many thought that Sir Sharpe was not all there when he tried reopening it.’
‘It was very much an uphill struggle for him.’ Charlotte nodded.
‘Then that American wife of his, to run off with that Yankee doctor, terrible altogether.’
‘I...I was not aware of that.’ Charlotte stated.
Mrs Davies looked at her. ‘I should have said nothing.’
‘No, please. I have heard Thomas mention an Edith...That is her, correct?’
‘Aye, that’s her. The trollop, doing that to the man.’
‘I had wondered.’ Charlotte commented. ‘I knew he was previously wed, of course, but I never knew…one does not ask such things. What happened exactly?’
‘Of course not. Well, that doctor came, one night, demanding someone to take him to Allerdale Hall, no one would, the weather was abysmal, so he went off by himself, refusing to accept a night longer, saying he had to see Lady Edith, he had to speak with her, confess something to her. The next thing, Sir Sharpe began returning to town again alone and very lost looking. Those two having rushed off back to America.’
‘That is terrible.’
‘It was.’ The sound of the door opening put an end to their conversation.
A moment later, someone walked through the hallway. ’Mary, my dear, would you be so kind as to...Lady Charlotte.’
‘Doctor.’ She smiled.
‘Is everything alright, M’Lady?’
‘Yes, I merely need to get a new prescription for poor Lucille, that medicine for her throat is about to run out.’
‘Of course. I have some in my office. As soon as you are finished your tea, you can come with me and get some.’ He sat on the chair beside the women. ‘But first, tea.’ He smiled. ‘Mary, I was speaking with Mrs Wiggins, she expects to see you at the Fete on Tuesday bright and early.’
‘I’ll give her bright and early, she would not know early if the cockerel was next to her.’
Charlotte looked at Edward, who rolled his eyes while Mrs Davies was not looking.
‘And did you see Ms Joanne up the town?’ Edward’s face went bright and he swallowed, causing Charlotte to look at him with a raised brow. ‘Dr Thompson here has a terrible liking for a Ms Joanne Carson, lovely girl, wonderful girl altogether, but he will do nothing about it.’
‘Mary…’ Edward pleaded.
‘Really?’ Charlotte looked at her brother with keen interest. ‘Is there reason the good doctor would do such a thing if he finds this lady to be so alluring?’
‘It is somewhat complicated.’ Edward explained.
‘How so, is she wed?’
‘No.’
‘Uninterested?’
‘She seems to be.’
‘Being courted?’ He gave an odd face. ‘Well, if I may be so bold as to ask what it is that is his profession to make you think you do not even stand a chance in his wake?’
‘He is the son of the undertaker.’
‘Well, I rather the man that saves people to the one that buries them, myself personally.’ Mrs Davies laughed again. ‘Doctor, perhaps were you to make yourself known to this lady, she may reconsider her options. A woman with options would rather know if she had them.’
‘Listen to the Lady Charlotte, Edward, she is a wise young lady.’ Mary urged.
Edward was about to contradict her when there was a knock at the door. Mary went to check who it was while Edward looked at his sister. ‘How long have you been here?’
‘Twenty minutes or so.’
‘Does he know you are in town?’
‘Thomas? Of course.’
‘He let you come alone?’
‘He is looking after Lucille.’
‘I really am not happy with this Charlotte.’
‘What?’
‘You and him, you are too close, you are blinded by affection for him and I think him to be nowhere in a vicinity of good for you.’
‘Edward, do not start that now.’ Charlotte pleaded.
A moment later, the door opened and a man walked in. Edward rose to his feet. ‘Mr Carson, how are you today?’
‘Wonderful doctor. I am just here about those pups I was speaking to you about. The bitch will be ready in two weeks for you.’
‘Excellent.’ Edward smiled. ‘Where are my manners, Lady Sharpe, this is Mr Carson, the finest butcher in these parts. Mr Carson, Lady Sharpe of Allerdale Hall.’
‘M’Lady.’ The man bowed.
‘Sir.’ She smiled. ‘Would it be possible perhaps to book a fine duck and a goose from you for the coming holidays?’
‘I...both, your Ladyship?’ The man looked at her shocked.
‘Please, and perhaps some good beef. I can arrange payment for you now if you would wish?’
‘I...Yes of course. For the meat, I mean and well, if you rather?’
‘Please, I do not like the idea of owing to any, my coachman is outside, he will settle it with you today.’ she beamed. ‘Are you getting a dog, doctor?’
‘Aye, Mr Carson has some purebred Cocker Spaniels.’
‘Oh, beautiful dogs, great intelligence in those eyes.’ Charlotte smiled.
‘Are you a dog lover, Lady Sharpe?’
‘I am an animal lover in general. I met your cat at the door I might add Doctor, he is mighty friendly.’
‘Rupert, friendly? I fear you met the wrong cat.’
Charlotte frowned. ‘No, Mrs Davies stated that to be his name, he was over purring at my leg and everything.’
‘Well, by God.’ The butcher laughed, causing Charlotte to look at him curiously. ‘M’Lady, that cat is as old as the hills and has been in this town with a decade or so and not one person would ever agree with you regarding it being of such a nature.’
‘Odd.’ Charlotte commented. ‘I had better let you get back to your day, Doctor. If I could just have that medicine for Lucille?’
‘Of course, Mr Carson, just give me a moment. This way, Lady Sharpe.’ He walked her into his consultation room. ‘It’s just over here.’
‘This place is wonderful.’
‘It is nice.’
‘I am envious.’ Edward looked at her. ‘I wish I could have married a man that had a home like this.’
Tumblr media
‘You didn’t like Foxgrove Park?’
‘Too big, as is Allerdale, this would have suited me.’ She smiled.
‘Charlotte, I...I am really worried about you.’ She looked at her brother. ‘You...you cannot be thinking clearly in the current situation.’
‘Edward…’
‘If he finds out, if you have to do it, can you? If he grabs you and tries to kill you, could you fight him, or will him calling you “Lottie” for the past few months have you killed? I cannot lose you, Charlotte. You are my little sister. I am supposed to protect you.’
‘Then make sure those drugs work, because if she gets out of this, she would, in an instant.’ Charlotte commented, taking the medicine.
‘You are playing a dangerous game. Edward commented. ‘You need to win.’

Congratulations Brooke you’ve been accepted to Crimson Revolt as Bellatrix Black!
↳ please refer to our character checklist
Bellatrix is such a complex character, so it was a delight to get an application that explores so many different sides of her personality! Her possessiveness, her addiction to torture, the vestiges of insanity, her love for her family -- it all came through beautifully in your app. I know she’ll be a much wanted addition to our mix, and I can’t wait to see how you explore her characteristics and allow her to grow depending on where the plot takes us. Congratulations and welcome!
application beneath the cut ( tw: death, torture, blood )
OUT OF CHARACTER
INTRODUCTION
Hi, my name is Brooke. I’m 26 and go by she/her. I live in EST time zone, USA.
ACTIVITY
I’m a teacher so my activity during the week can be a bit spotty if I have school functions, however I am active on weekends. So my number is anywhere from 6-8 given the day of the week. I also have the app on my phone and can post during my lunch breaks and when out and about.
TRIGGERS
*removed for privacy
HOW DID YOU FIND US?
I was RPing here a while back as Lucius, but RL got away from me so I had to drop him. My friend Orlik is still here as Umbridge so I felt like coming back now that my life is more settled.
WHAT HARRY POTTER CHARACTER DO YOU IDENTIFY WITH MOST?
I love Luna. She is someone so utterly full of life and she gives no fucks in the best possible way.
ANYTHING ELSE?
I am a devoted Ravenclaw!
IN CHARACTER
DESIRED CHARACTER
Bellatrix- Means “female warrior” in Latin. This is the name of the star that marks the left shoulder of the constellation Orion.
Eris- Eris was the goddess of strife and discord
Black- a nickname given from the earliest times to a swarthy or dark-haired person
FACE CLAIM
Eva Green suits me fine! She has a wild beauty about her that fits my view of Bellatrix.
REASON FOR CHOSEN CHARACTER
Ah, Bellatrix Black. The infamous zealot for Voldemort’s cause. Wielder of the power of Occlumency. Bringer of pain and destruction. What’s not to love about our resident crazy witch? She’s wild, full of blood lust, and evil. These types of characters are a blast to play! It is a small chance to drop the modern niceties and bring out a wilder side of you. Yet, Bellatrix is a character who is not one dimensional. Yes, she’s mad, but there’s also passion, loyalty, and even love.
Bella (I’ll call her that even though I imagine she’d allow no one but her sisters and Voldemort to call her that) is passion incarnate. Every action she does is done with her full self. Nothing is half assed with her. At any moment she is ready to kill for her cause and kill she will, with brutal skill and violent strength. Such is her passion that she utterly defends her cause, her blood purity, and family.
This brings us to her next point. Loyalty. She is of course loyal to the Death Eaters, but I would even say her loyalty to her family comes before that. She loves her sister Narcissa and I think, deep down, even Andromeda, though her passion would never allow her to admit it.  The loyalty for the Ancient and Most Noble House of Black is so deeply ingrained in her that she’d stop at nothing to make sure it’s honor is upheld to the highest. Merlin help the person who dares sully their good name. This of course means Andromeda, which brings out a heavy struggle in the two sides of Bella. Loyalty and Passion conflicting at once.
But let us not forget love. Bella has memories of her sisters that are not easily forgotten, even in throes of passion and madness. She loves them dearly as she does her master. She may not understand her feelings as love however. She might see it more as possession. They are HERS and must be protected at all costs. How she manages her love among her other traits as the war develops remains to be seen, but it is clear it will be a struggle for all involved. Nothing will stop her from her goals, not even herself.
PREFERRED SHIPS // CHARACTER SEXUALITY // GENDER & PRONOUNS
Bellatrix uses sex as a means for power. Whether it be to sleep her way to the top or to get someone hooked on her extensive bedroom skills, Bella has no qualms about working what she has. She is bisexual with a heavy lean towards women. Women are so soft and delicate and so fun to break.  The sight of blood, dark and wet, makes her hot and she loves to break out the knives for a little fun. The feel of steel on flesh, lightly touching and teasing as it raises goosebumps on the skin makes her dizzy. But it all becomes clear once she plunges the blade into her unfortunate lover’s flesh. Muggles are particularly fun to play with, so innocent and trusting. You know that Bellatrix has been around if attractive young muggles begin to disappear at a frightening speed.
Bella does not feel love, per say. She feels possessive and things that she marks are hers are just that. HERS. Her sisters. Her master. All hers. The thought of her beloved Andromeda in the possession of anyone else fills her with rage. HERS. NO ONE ELSE’S. Andy will return, even if it means she returns to Bella in her burial shroud.

IN CHARACTER QUESTIONNAIRE
The following section should be looked at like a survey for your character. Answer them in character and feel free to use gifs. Or, if you’d rather, answer them in third person or OOC without gifs. Answers do not have to be extremely lengthy.
♔ If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it? Feel free to name it:
Skin is full of holes, you know. Did you know that? Little tiny holes. Openings. Entry ways. There’s a phobia for that, you know. Imagine. A fear of itty bitty little tiny holes. It makes one think of something sick. Infested. Infected. Trypophobia. Foraminissanguinem is my spell. Imagine a geyser. So beautiful. Now imagine three trillion of them erupting. Each from a point nearly invisible to the naked eye. So beautiful, no?
♔ You have to venture deep into the Forbidden Forest one night. Pick one other character and one object (muggle or magical), besides your wand, that you’d want with you: There is one object I have always admired since I was a tiny pip of a girl. The Staring Glass Eye in Borgin and Burke’s. It’s quite a simple object. Unassuming. Small. Shiny. Yet it does so much more than meets…well, the eye. It resembles a glass eye. Of course, it does. A small, round, shiny glass eye with a blue iris. Pretty little thing. Would match my collection. I do so love the color blue. Once held, its owner is alerted to anyone or anything that attempts to sneak up on it. It sees through all things, solid or otherwise. Organic or otherwise. Such a useful tool, no? I believe I’ll inquire about its whereabouts. If lucky, it will remain at the store for my purchase.
♔ What kinds of decisions are the most difficult for you to make?
None. What a ridiculous question. Next!
♔ What is one thing you would never want said about you?
That I were not the very image of blood purity. I am Bellatrix Eris Black, eldest daughter of Cygnus and Druella Black, of the Ancient and Most Noble House of Black. The blood of my veins is that of a pure blood witch. My lineage is pure and superior. To declare otherwise is to meet the end of my wand.
WRITING SAMPLE
The echo of footsteps reverberated around the abandoned alley. The man, breathing heavy, pulled himself along the wall with one hand. The other was wrapped protectively around his broken ribs. Each footstep was a burning agony. Each intake of breath threatened collapse. Yet, he continued on. The safe house was near. Just a bit further and he’d be with the others. They weren’t expecting him, but he’d be welcomed. The information he’d acquired…he shivered slightly, feeling cold. Was it the chill weather or the rapid loss of blood that brought on the shiver? He couldn’t say. A high feminine giggle echoed somewhere nearby. He paused, barely breathing. It faded in the night, leaving a haunting silence in its wake. He shivered again. Must keep moving.
Behind him, stalked a predator. The metallic scent of blood wafting in her nostrils. She shivered as well, yet for a wholly different reason. A sigh followed by another high pitched little giggle. What fun! Stooping down, one long finger reached out to touch the crimson liquid splattered on the cobblestone. A pianist’s fingers, he father used to tell her. In happier times, that is. The blood was still warm. The coated finger was raised to the woman’s lips. A fine color to match her already ruby lips. A tip of pink tongue darted out to taste the salty liquid. Another sigh, like one offered to a sweet-talking lover. Oh, this was fun.
So close. He just had to make it. She was closer, he knew. But there was no rush in her pursuit. She knew as well as he, that he was not going to make it. A tear slipped down his face, falling to mix with the blood on the stone. If he could just get close enough. If he could just find some way to alert them, then it would not be for nothing. They needed to know. He needed them to know. Another step. He stumbled and then fell. Black spots danced before his eyes, blacker than the night. The sound of footsteps drew nearer until they were right upon him. She tutted, sadly, before straddling the man. Her weight upon his broken ribs brought gasps of pain. She nuzzled him gently. Her finger, still coated in the man’s blood, stroked his stubbled cheek. A smear spread upon it, barely noticeable in his already bloodied features. She smiled, which tore a sob from the man’s lips. It was too wide, too toothy. She leaned in close, her lips almost to his ear, and whispered gently. His sobs came swiftly. “Did you really think I’d let you go so easily?” She pressed her lips to his cheek before sticking out her tongue. She licked the side of his bloodied face and shuddered heavily. “We’ve only just begun our fun.”
