Series of wood figurines, carved by me. Copied from stone idols of scythian and polovtsian (cuman) cultures, known as “kurgan stelae” or “кам’яні баби” in ukranian. These stone statues are found in Pontic-Caspian steppe area of modern southern Ukraine, southern Russia, north of Caucasus region, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.
For me this project was a way of reconnecting to my land (my families originates in steppe part of Ukraine, near the Azov sea), as I started my woodworking practice 1,5 year ago.
All figurines were sold to raise money to buy thermal weapon sight for ukrainian military, who defend Ukraine from russia at the moment, on the same area (south-east part of Ukraine), which is the origin of these kurgan stelae.

VER. THE RED SORCERER WILL WAKE THE SLEEPER & SILENCE THE BELLS
♔. synopsis : canon adjacent, mixing in elements of deathless and taking this verse as koschei's alt. tsar of life origin story. rewriting some details & emphasizing the undercurrent of the plot to reveal koschei faked his death in book 2 and was the mastermind behind the events of the series. he usurps medved, and becomes the new summer-demon towards the end of book 3. most plots can take place after the series, when he's on the brink of waging a war to take over medieval rus' and the other chyerti realms, particularly morozko's.
in the 11th cent. during the reign of vladimir the great, yuri, a polovtsian khan who plundered and traversed the entirety of the great steppes with his nomadic warriors, sacked a village near serbia and took a country girl as his wife. the girl's name was danika, and she belonged to a balkan line of witches & sorcerers who worshipped the giver, dazbog (the chyert of summer and tsar of life).
some time later, after confirming she had the ability to see the unseen chyerti, dazbog gave her his jewel, the alatyr stone. he promised to protect her so long as she wore it and did not let him fade from memory. when the time came, she was to pass it down to the youngest of her three sons. she only had two at the time.
that year, yuri led an unsuccessful attack against prince mstislav, son of vladamir. yuri was killed in combat, but danika and her sons were spared, though taken as slaves, under the condition that they assimilate and convert to christianity. danika converted, for the sake of her children and the unborn one she carried, but hid dazbog's jewel, wove him into her prayers and never forgot about the chyerti.
♔. the polovtsy / polovytsians. turkic nomadic warriors (aka the cumans). the name comes from the old slavic word for "blonde" "pale yellow" due to the color of their hair and/or their cream colored akhal-teke horses, known for their speed and golden metallic sheen. by the events of the book (14th cent.) the polovtsy fled from the mongol invasion of rus' to different countries, but many also joined the golden horde and became generally referred to as tartars, along w other turkic groups. (koschei's fairytale is based on a famous polovtsian, khan konchek) ♔. dazbog / medved. a slavic solar deity who resided in buyan but also the underworld. in the summer, he was a man in his prime, accompanied by wolves. in winter, he was a one-eyed old man who wore a bear skin during his hibernation in death's realm. canon doesn't say this explicitly, but medved is lame daba, aka dazbog after his demonization, which christianization (and koschei) caused. very few know him by his old name & nature. ♔. alatyr stone. in this verse, it's a red-gold jewel connected to dazbog's power and a gateway to buyan. it's his equivalent to the sapphire morozko passed to vasya. in book 2, it's the stone koschei uses as a decoy death.
i. three roads, three sons: koschei was born and raised in tmutarakan as a slave, serving first as a groom, then a farmhand, and when he came of age, he and his brothers were dragged into a war between princes for vladamir's throne. koschei's mother gave him dazbog's jewel hoping it would protect him, and it did, but during the winter march, his brothers were taken by the frost. in the spring when the war was in full bloom, koschei's contact with dazbog became more direct and frequent. he often carried him away from the brink of death in the battlefield in the spirit of a wolf to buyan, where he'd heal him, feed him, and teach him the art of war and magic.
eventually, dazbog aided koschei in deserting the war. during this time, he traveled the principalities around kiev freely, but the past, the threat of death and imprisonment, and the growing disdain for witches and sorcerers chased him out of every place he hoped to settle. he went to baba yaga's midnight country where he formed a romance with tamara and earned the favor of the golden mare and firebird, zornitsa, the fastest horse of yaga's flock. with her, koschei was able to outrun any threat or foe, and was carried to farther lands, away from kiev and the church bells.
♔. the golden mare / firebird : diverting from the book, koschei's mare is named zornitsa, the morning star, and she's the same in every verse. koschei wins her favor on his own, as he was a worthy rider at the start. later, he loses favor and that's when tamara & the golden bridle ( without spikes !! ) come into play.
ii. the wolf, the firebird, & the horse with a golden mane: he ended up in the newly founded village of moscow when it was still pagan, and was set on making his home there. ivan yurovich was the name he used to avoid recognition (given his growing reputation in kiev), and upon his arrival the lord offered him riches, land, and a seat at his table if he sold him his golden mare. koschei accepted, but used sorcery to transmute a wolf into the likeness of zornitsa, then asked her to hide in the wood in her firebird form.
the lord's sister, yelena tomislavna, had the gift of sight too. she caught on to the ruse, but kept koschei's secret. in time the two fell deeply for one another, but koschei was not a preferred match. he contrived a plan to have the lord spot the firebird during a hunt, and as he suspected, the lord promised yelena's hand to anyone who'd manage to catch it for him. koschei rose to the occassion, again presenting a wolf who simply forgot it was not a firebird, and the wedding was set.
♔. ivan yurovich : his birthname in this verse (see this post to dive into the rabbit hole). after his brothers' deaths, their nickname for him (due to his lankiness) continued to be his preferred name. he goes by koschei yurovich through his pre-immortal travels, then later koschei bessmertny. kasyan lutovich is the current alias. after his identity reveal he goes back to being referred to as koschei bessmertny. it's a name he's proud of, so if you ever call him ivan, it's on sight !!
iii. the midwinter feast : during their engagement celebration, morozko was an honorary guest, as it was his midwinter holiday too. he took great interest in yelena and had her tend to him the entire night, much to koschei's agitation and moscow's speculation. when the frost demon left, a panicked idea took root among the folk that yelena could not marry. she would need to be morozko's tribute for maslenitsa, the sunfeast, or else they'd face a late summer and risk another deadly famine. to escape the hysteria, koschei and yelena fled to a secret place tucked between realms in the midday road which koschei called yaichka for it's golden wheat fields that looked like a sea of yolk.
it was in that field, while koschei was stealing food from buyan, that the noon wraith, sent by dazbog, lured a lounging yelena into a trance and danced her into midnight and then back into moscow. when koschei found out, he and zornitsa raced through the midday road from buyan to moscow, but a devotee of dazbog could only find the middays of spring and summer. what felt like hours of riding were actually weeks. he arrived on winter's last sunset, through the red flash of the last day of the sunfeast, but the people of moscow had already strangled yelena in the snow and tossed her body into the sacrificial fire.
koschei begged morozko and dazbog to undo what the people had done, using the water of life and the water of death, but the twins refused to intervene with fate. herein laid the trappings of a secret war, where koschei set his heart towards revenge against the people of rus' and the twins who'd wronged him. for the moment, they were none the wiser. dazbog took koschei into buyan and continued to mentor him until he eventually used the knowledge to formulate a spell that would have him take dazbog's power and remove himself from death's reach so that he could confidently enact his revenge on the frost demon and people of rus'.
♔. the chains of the winter king : this feast was the memory vasya found morozko imprisoned in, and the man she saw was koschei ("ivan"). as tamara's sister later explains, kasyan's face is not koschei's real face which is why she did not immediately recognize him. so this is the first glimpse we get of him in the series. i'm establishing that koschei, working through medved, was responsible for the creation of this prison memory, but it was just that. a magical simulation on loop. no historical events could be changed by meddling.
iv. the golden bridle: zornitsa urged koschei against his plan, but he needed her speed to catch dazbog's chariot in his journey towards death's country, when he was most vulernable. he created a golden bridle that would bind zornitsa's will to his own. then he seduced tamara once more, and tricked her into placing the bridle on zornitsa. with the bridle on, koschei seized his opportunity and struck his fatal spell on dazbog just before he could reach morozko's country. but the spell was complex and too slippery for a human mind. they both tumbled into rus', and when koschei finally came to, he found himself immortal and alone, but not entirely successful.
v. lame daba : killing a dual natured god in one blow was impossible. in the fall, dazbog split in two: his primary form (the summer wolf) was killed and absorbed by koschei; but the winter bearskin of his hibernating form still remained, and koschei's spell had inadvertently reanimated the husk in the effort to make himself deathless. koschei's life force was removed from his body, but was stored in medved, the eater, whose mind and memory became a mangled and rotted version of dazbog's, tainted by koschei's essence and vision of him. medved then represented a mockery of life fueled by it's hardships and became the tsar of the upyr, the insatiable undead.
medved had no true recollection of his previous life and neither did anyone else. koschei then realized that to kill and usurp a god meant to erase them from memory, and when medved began to wreak havoc on rus', morozko imprisoned his brother with a murky recollection of the time before they were at odds. likewise, the world had an obscured recollection of koschei and who he was before -- but the witch women of midnight and the crossroad demons who had witnessed what he'd done remembered. they did not have the means to intervene, but yaga did cast out her daughter tamara, and shut all the roads of the chyerti realms to her and koschei so they could never come back.
vi. the tower of bones. now unable to reach buyan and the sleeping bear to retrieve his death and finish what he started, koschei set up camp in a place he called, bashnya kostei, the tower of bones. he offered tamara a place at his side, but she refused and left him. thus began the campaigns against the people of kievan rus' that inspired the tales of koschei the deathless. eventually, he took to keeping a lower profile, used sorcery and glamors to hide his rotting appearance, recruited the surrounding chyerti to do his bidding, and conjured scrying spells to keep morozko blind to his machinations and whereabouts.
vii. the bear & the nightingale. in dreams, koschei could sense any perturbances with medved given their inconvenient entanglement. after years of nothing, he saw a young girl with familiar green eyes and the gift of sight approach the bear at his clearing. if koschei could not get to buyan, he figured the sacrifice of a witch could summon medved into rus'. so he riled the bear awake in secret and planted the idea in his subconscious. the bear was successful, through the death of a different witch, but when he was foiled and bound again by the sacrifice of a father. koschei moved on to the back up plan: a counterspell to yaga's banishment using the alatyr stone, the red flash of the last winter sunset on maslenitsa, and the power charge of a witch from her bloodline.
book 2 & book 3. from here, we set up the events of book 2. koschei's core motive is a power grab, particularly for buyan and the chyerti. not knowing where vasya ran off to, he took on the alias of kasyan lutovich to infiltrate moscow and investigate vasya's remaining family there, hoping to find another witch/sorcerer with the sight who could charge and destroy the stone, thus "killing him" but really his body disintegrated and reappeared in the water of life in buyan, where he began to gather his own chyerti forces and used medved as a puppet & distraction in book 3 to buy himself time.
taking over moscow & destroying the bells was supposed to be an added treat that went a little haywire (understatement), but was not the primary goal. this was getting medved bound again at the right time while koschei was in buyan, getting his death back, hiding it somewhere else unknown, and merging with what remained of dazbog's power so he could become the new tsar of life. when vasya returns to the clearing seeking medved's aid, she finds his bearskin limp and koschei standing in his place. further notes & divergences can be discussed and/or will be posted as hcs.

5. What sort of succession system is it? Agnatic? Primogeniture? Gender-biased?
In Vlad's 15th-century Wallachia, the succession system is not fixed but rather functions as a loosely structured polity. Future voivodes are chosen from any male members of the royal family who are not disfigured or maimed noticeably. This type of succession is defined as os de domn (of voivode marrow), which means that any man from the royal family (brother, nephew, son, etc.), regardless of being born as a legitimate son or not, has the right to become the ruler of the land. At the same time, the voivode does not need to consider the order in which possible successors are born but instead chooses his heir based on skills and capabilities, hence why it is not uncommon for the heir to first become the associate ruler which allows the voivode to prepare his successor and teach him the craft of politics. This type of succession is, to a certain extent, favourable as it eliminates the stigma associated with illegitimate children because, regardless of whether they are born out of wedlock or not, all male members of the family are treated equally and have the same opportunities. However, it also creates an unstable political environment characterised by frequent violent power struggles among family members.
In Trystan's 21st-century Drakovia, the succession system is primogeniture, meaning that the firstborn legitimate child inherits the throne. Unlike in the past, this system is no longer biased based on gender, allowing daughters of the kings to also become rulers (this option was implemented through the Drakovian Pragmatic Sanction which allowed Queen Catalina to rule during the last two decades of the 1800s). This type of succession ensures the stability of the country, with the heir being prepared for their future role from childhood. However, it does discriminate against the illegitimate children of the king, which is why Juliana Georgescu eventually proposes the draft of the Drakovian Act for Heir Equity.
10. Is the dynasty old? Or new? How does this affect how they operate?
Vlad belongs to the House of Drăculești, which traces its origins back to Vlad’s father, Vlad II Dracul (Dragon). While the family is part of the House of Basarab, the Basarabs eventually split into two separate lines, with the other line being the House of Dănești. These two lines have been in constant competition for the throne since the late 14th century. The Basarabs are a ruling family of Cuman origin, and they established Wallachia as a state in the early 14th century under the leadership of Basarab I (hence the name of the royal house). At the time of Vlad’s first rule in 1448, the country (and the royal house) is still relatively young, being only 138 years old. The relative youth of the House of Basarab itself does not cause problems in the functioning of the state. However, the split of the royal house into two lines certainly contributes to the instability in the region.
Trystan belongs to the House of Tornović which first began to rule Drakovia in the 18th century. Prior to Drakovia becoming a Socialist republic in the 1940s, the royal family was renowned for being enlightened rulers who promoted education and art. However, due to the volatile and turbulent political landscape of the Balkans, the Tornovićs often had to govern with an iron fist, making them rather authoritarian, almost despotic. After the fall of the Communist regime, the descendants of the House of Tornović return from exile to a country that becomes instantly engulfed in a bloody civil war that ultimately leads to the restoration of the kingdom at a high cost. However, due to the volatile nature of regional politics and the transformation of Drakovian society, the country merely undergoes a different kind of dictatorship under the rule of King Maksim, Trystan’s father.
17. Does your OC dislike living in the public eye? Or do they believe it's part of the job?
Growing up in the family of the Great Pretender and later moving to the Royal Court in Târgovişte, Vlad is accustomed to being in the public eye. He sees it as a small price to pay for being a Drăculea, and it is an aspect of his life that he does not have a personal preference for but rather sees as a constant presence. He can manage it as long as he can find a way to maintain some privacy for his family and for an environment where he can simply be a regular person for a while. However, when he becomes a prisoner at the Hungarian court, he strongly dislikes being constantly observed by the public, primarily due to the constant humiliation that comes with it. He begins to prefer the solace of privacy, being surrounded only by family or using it for quiet contemplation.
Trystan not only enjoys living in the public eye, he thrives in it. Whether he is publicly praised as an enigmatic heir to the throne or closely followed as a scandalous rebel in exile, he relishes the attention at all times. His perspective on public life does not solely derive from being born into the most closely observed family in the kingdom, it also arises from his personality and his somewhat eccentric soul. However, this perspective shifts with age as he develops a greater appreciation for tranquil environments and a desire for privacy.
31. Your OC has been the target of some bad press. What do they do to straighten out the story?
It is a historical fact that Vlad's reputation has been tarnished by a series of pamphlets aimed at ruining his image, so much so that this negative perception of him persists to this day. During his imprisonment by Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus, Vlad had no opportunity to correct the narrative or defend himself against the slanderous accusations and, as a result, his bad reputation has continued to follow him without anyone giving him the chance to make his voice be heard. After his release and his third time becoming the voivode, Vlad is too disillusioned and bitter to even think about actively addressing his tarnished reputation. He only cares about being understood by his family and closest associates.
Trystan firmly believes in the motto that “any press is good press”, so he isn’t easily offended by negative publicity. He is accustomed to appearing on magazine covers due to his supposedly scandalous behaviour and enjoys being seen as a provocative rebel. However, if the bad press includes something too sensitive, he would go to great lengths to restore his reputation. For instance, there is a lingering cloud of suspicion surrounding his involvement in Juliana Georgescu’s death, and the desire to uncover the truth (and potentially clear his name) continues to haunt him for years. Eventually, we know that the Detective helps him uncover what truly happened on that fateful night.

Art wipnya sebenernya belum kelar dari lama (kehalang kerjaan dan komis gjjmsgjs), tpi berhubung takut lupa sama rencana ini dan kapan hari ga sengaja nyebut nama salah satu dari mereka di twitter (😭🙏), okelah skarang ajh ngocehnya (awas bingung soalnya bakal random banget, literally ngeluarin isi kepala aja tbh).

Tiga bersaudara, tapi salah satunya punya hubungan ga sedarah sama dua sisanya (saudara tiri ya minnasang 🤝). Yang tertua adalah Yamanami Tsubomi (kiri), 23 tahun, saat ini berkuliah di jurusan Sejarah Jepang; lalu ada Yamanami Harada (kanan), 21 tahun, sekampus sama Tsubomi tapi kuliah di Manajemen Bisnis; lalu yang terakhir ada si bontot (tapi jangkung buset) Yamanami Tsukioka (tengah), 15 tahun, kelas 1 SMA di SMA Hakuyama.

Tsubomi dan Harada harusnya kepisah 2 tingkat kalo di kampus. Tapi waktu ujian masuk kuliah, Tsubomi ambis banget—kalo ngga masuk kampus pilihan dia, dia gamau kuliah di tempat lain. Kebetulan pula pada kali pertama itu Tsubomi gagal lolos, jadi dia gap year setahun. Tahun berikutnya baru dia berhasil masuk, dan tahun berikutnya lagi Harada menyusul hingga mereka hanya kepisah satu tingkat.
Tsubomi orangnya kalem—kaleeemmm banget, menghadapi Tsukioka yang kadang ga kalem dan nekat-an pun dia masih kalem, meski kadang keceplosan juga kalo dia punya pemikiran yang sama kayak adek bungsunya. Perhatian sama adek2nya, he loves them equally ga peduli apakah mereka adek kandung atau adek tiri dia.
Harada orangnya pendiem—ngga cuek, jatuhnya cuman bingung harus bersikap bagaimana (kinda low self-esteem, udah dari kecil karena satu dua hal). Sayang sama Tsubomi, sayang sama Tsukioka juga 🤝 Kadang suka main ke dapur—Harada jago masak ternyata, dan Tsukioka suka banget sama masakan dia.

Lalu ada Tsukioka, si bungsu. Di sekolah, dia ikut ekskul basket—dan pada semester 1 langsung masuk tim inti berhubung skill mainnya ternyata bagus dan tinggi badannya memadai. Orangnya (kadang) berisik, juga kalo gerak suka gapake mikir alias impulsif. Dari luar keliatannya kayak serem (soalnya tinggi menjulang udah kayak anak kelas 3—bahkan aslinya ga banyak anak kelas 3 yg setinggi dia), tapi aslinya dia ramah dan kalo di rumah suka manja ke kakak2nya wwww.
Yang sejak lahir megang marga Yamanami tuh Harada (alias, Tsubomi dan Tsukioka lah yang masuk ke keluarga dia). Marga awalnya Tsubomi dan Tsukioka adalah Otori, dan sejak ayah mereka meninggal serta sang ibu menikah lagi, jadilah mereka berdua ganti marga; from Otori Tsubomi and Otori Tsukioka to Yamanami Tsubomi and Yamanami Tsukioka.
Waktu masuk keluarga Yamanami, Tsukioka masih kecil (sekitar 4 tahun). Tsubomi udah 12 tahun, sementara Harada 10. Tsukioka yang paling cepat beradaptasi sama kehadiran Harada di antara dia dan Tsubomi, juga jadi yang pertama menyadari, kalau sikap ayah tiri mereka (aka ayah kandungnya Harada) pada Tsubomi-Tsukioka dan Harada tuh berbanding jauh.
Ayah mereka baik ke Tsubomi dan Tsukioka (baik banget malah, disayangnya udah kayak anak kandung sendiri), sementara ke Harada cenderung diabaikan (bahkan sebenernya pernah jadi pelampiasan. Tsukioka yang masih kecil sering lihat dan pada suatu malam, dia nekat langsung nyamperin Harada tanpa peduli waktu itu ayah mereka masih ngamuk mukulin Harada—iyh dari kecil udah nekat-an anaknya, waktu itu umurnya 5 tahun). Karena Tsukioka datang ayah mereka berhenti, lalu pergi gitu aja. Tapi sebelum blio pergi, Tsukioka merasa tatapan ayah mereka pada Harada begitu menyeramkan.
Sama Tsukioka, Haradanya langsung diajakin ke kamar Tsubomi—untungnya Tsubomi belum tidur. Tsukioka ga pake basa-basi lagi langsung ngelaporin apa yang dia liat ke kakaknya, dan minta supaya Harada cepat2 diobati (sebenernya tanpa denger penjelasan Tsukioka pun Tsubomi langsung cari kotak p3k waktu liat Harada lebam2, tapi lebih kaget lagi waktu tau apa yg sebenernya terjadi karena sebelumnya ngira Harada cuman jatoh).
Tsubomi tuh sebenarnya cerdas. Dia juga diam2 sadar kalau sikap ayah mereka ke Harada agak beda (beda yang aneh karena—bukannya yang anak kandung justru Harada?). Maka sembari mengobati Harada, Tsubomi nanya pelan2. Tsukioka juga ikut nanya (ga pake rem, mana frontal banget "Tou-sama kok jahat banget sama Harada Nii-chan?!?! :((((" yg tentunya langsung ditegur Tsubomi, meski sebenernya Tsubomi dalam hati juga setuju sama pertanyaan adeknya). Harada awalnya berkelit, lebih nyalahin diri sendiri karena dia (mungkin) bandel—tapi habis itu langsung diserobot lagi sama Tsukioka, yang berkata kalau dia sebenernya udah sering lihat ayah mereka mukulin Harada.
"... Tsukioka kenapa nggak bilang padaku? Atau pada Ibu dan para pelayan?" Tsubomi nggak begitu tahu soal ini, dan dia akui belakangan itu memang dia agak cuek sama keadaan sekitar gara2 sibuk jadi ketua kelas di kelasnya.
"... Takut. Tou-sama serem banget." Gitu2 Tsukioka masih kecil, tapi keberanian dia malam itu mungkin bakal membuka semuanya.
Jadinya Tsubomi balik lagi ke Harada, menanyakan hal yang sama sekaligus, "Sudah lama Tou-sama begini padamu?", dan karena udah kepalang ketahuan juga akhirnya Harada ngangguk aja.
"... Kenapa?" / "KENAPA?!?!? :(((("
Malam itu Harada diam aja. Ngga ngomong lagi, tapi Tsubomi yang lagi ngobatin dia dengar sekilas gumaman Harada, "Itu salahku.".
Tsubomi gabisa maksa buat cerita (itu semua keputusan Harada, after all), tapi Tsukioka kebalikan dia (maksa Harada buat cerita, tpi akhirnya anaknya ditegur lagi sama Tsubomi supaya mnjaga sikap). Harada bener2 ga ngomong apa2 habis itu, tapi waktu Tsubomi selesai mengobati dan Harada hendak keluar, Tsubomi nawarin Harada buat tidur di kamarnya malam ini. Harada awalnya mau nolak www, tpi sama Tsukioka langsung disuruh buat ikut aja (nanti dia ikut nginep di situ, jadi mereka tidur bertiga di kamar Tsubomi).
Apa yang terjadi malam itu ga pernah sampai ke telinga ibu Tsubomi dan Tsukioka, tapi sejak malam itu Tsukioka jadi suka ngintilin Harada ke mana2 (apalagi kalo ada bapak mereka. Malah dipelototin sama Tsukioka, meski tangannya sambil menggenggam ujung kausnya Harada/Tsubomi erat2 (takut dikit)). Sejak malam itu juga mereka bertiga jadi dekat—Tsubomi mulai nyoba mengatur waktunya sendiri supaya dia bisa punya waktu buat adek2nya juga, also takut Harada makin kenapa2 kalo ditinggal sendirian lagi.
(Soon, suatu hari ketika Harada akhirnya siap, dia bercerita. Ibu dan adiknya meninggal di rumah lama mereka yang terbakar. Hari itu Harada juga ada di sana, tapi cuman dia yang berhasil keluar (itupun dia sempet kena kayu-kayu yang terbakar api, makanya di wajah sama sebagian tubuhnya ada bekas luka bakar). Ayahnya cinta banget sama istrinya dan sayang sama anak keduanya, lantas menyalahkan Harada yang hanya keluar sendirian—kenapa ibu atau adiknya tidak selamat? Kenapa hanya Harada? Sejak saat itu juga Harada tau dirinya dibenci (dan perlakuan ayahnya pada Harada memperjelas itu semua), tapi ngga bisa apa2 juga karena jatuhnya dia ga punya siapa2 lagi (ayah Harada memutus hubungan Harada dengan sepupu-sepupu dan keluarga lainnya).
"Tsubomi dan Tsukioka waktu tahu, lumayan kaget juga (mereka tau ibu kandung sama adeknya Harada udah meninggal, tapi gapernah tau kalau ada cerita itu juga). Harada juga bilang, dulu waktu pertama kali liat Tsukioka, Harada langsung keinget mendiang adeknya—bahkan sempat merasa takut, kalau Tsukioka dekat2 dengannya, dia bakal bernasib sama kayak adeknya.
Tsukioka waktu denger itu juga marah banget. Dengan suara keras dia bilang mau nendang bapak mereka trus ditegur lagi sama Tsubomi supaya (again) menjaga sikap.
"Tapi Tou-sama jahat ke Harada Nii-chan?!" —Yamanami Tsukioka, 10 tahun, marahnya serius.
"Tetap nggak boleh begitu, Tsukioka—nanti apa bedanya kamu dengan dia—walau aku juga mau menendangnya, sih."
"Tuh kan Tsubomi Nii-chan juga! Ayo kita tendang bareng!!"
"Tetap tidak boleh."
"Tapi—"
Harada tiba2 nangis waktu liat mereka berdebat. Tsubomi-Tsukioka panik, tpi sama Harada dibilangin kalau dia gapapa—dia cuman ... terharu? Dia ngga nyangka Tsukioka dan Tsubomi sampai segitunya demi dia yang notabenenya cuman saudara tiri mereka.)
Waktu Tsukioka kelas 3 SMP, ayah mereka pindah ke luar negeri buat ngurus perusahaan—blio pemilik perusahaan besar yang bergerak di bidang pembangunan, lantas berminat membuat cabang besar kedua di Eropa dengan dirinya sendiri yang mengatur langsung. Ibu mereka tentunya ikut, dan karena anak2 mereka sudah cukup besar, Tsubomi dan kedua adiknya tetap di Jepang, diurus sama pelayan2 keluarga mereka—yeah they have maids, anyway. Keluarga Yamanami tuh aslinya kaya raya dan punya banyak pelayan di rumah mereka (meski mereka sistemnya pulang hari, datang pagi dan pulang setelah makan malam). Dulu waktu Tsubomi tau ayah mereka suka mukulin Harada, diem2 dia mempertanyakan gunanya orang2 ini karena bisa2nya mereka gatau Harada sering digituin (Tsukioka ngaku dia pernah liat Harada dipukul siang2, asumsi Tsubomi kayaknya itu terjadi lebih sering sebelum ibu mereka nikah sama ayah mereka yang sekarang).
Sejak mereka berdua pergi, ketiganya jadi nyaris ga pernah menghadiri pertemuan keluarga besar lagi (paling datengnya cuman kalau disuruh sama ayah mereka, selebihnya mending tetap di rumah atau jalan2 bertiga aja—setelah Tsukioka ngancem para pelayan biar ga lapor bapake, meski keknya ga diancem juga aslinya mereka cuman orang2 cuek, ga bakal ngelapor hanya karena anak2 Tuan Besar bolos ikut pertemuan keluarga).
Tsubomi sama Tsukioka sempet culture shock waktu masuk keluarga Yamanami, karena ternyata keluarga besar mereka rutin ngadain pertemuan keluarga tiap dua bulan sekali atau ada tetua yang ulang tahun. Tsukioka ga pernah betah di sana, soalnya sepupu2 baru dia gaada yang asik (kalau nggak kaku ya sombong karena kekayaan masing2, Tsukioka gedeg sendiri lama2). Tsubomi juga ngga begitu suka sama suasananya, tapi dia tahan2 aja demi image anak tertua yang baik. Sementara Harada ... sejak kejadian itu dia ujung2nya jadi dikucilkan (salahkan ayahnya untuk hal ini), dan biasanya Tsukioka milih nempel ke dia kalo Tsubomi lagi pasang topeng dan berbaur sama sepupu2 mereka.
(Tsukioka bilang sepupu2 mereka dari keluarga Otori lebih menyenangkan, dan jujur aja Tsubomi setuju. Harada juga udah ga sreg lagi sama sepupu2nya, jadilah setelah ortu mereka pindah ke luar negeri, ketiganya sepakat buat ga dateng lagi ke pertemuan keluarga besar kecuali kalau terpaksa.
Talks abt keluarga Otori juga, anak2 keluarga Otori yang merupakan sepupu Tsubomi-Tsukioka masih berhubungan baik dengan mereka berdua; beda sama Yamanami yang langsung cut off, Otori masih lumayan terbuka. Bahkan anak2 itu punya grup chat khusus yang isinya cucu2 keluarga Otori, dan ketika suatu waktu Tsukioka bercerita tentang Harada, sepupu mereka yang paling tua lantas memintakan nomor Harada supaya bisa diajak bergabung—mereka nerima Harada sebagai sepupu mereka juga, karena sekarang Harada adalah saudara Tsubomi dan Tsukioka.).

Key Takeaways ngobrol sm Kak Tria di Solo
Hari jumat dan sabtu kemarin jadi salah satu hari yang memorable buatku dan hannah. Kami naik krl ke solo hanya berdua!
Walau agendanya cukup sederhana, pengen ngobrol sama kakak-kakak jadi emg cuman mampir rumah ke rumah, tapi karena obrolannya ada tujuannya, yaitu mencari gambaran dan berbagi rasa dengan kakak yang sedang s2 bersama bocil, jadi gak kemana2 ya gapapa.
Banyak ngobrol sm kak tria yang aktif bgt sama kegiatan sosialnya dan sedang s2 sosiologi di UNS. Banyak pandangan dan pelajaran secara gak langsung dari kak tria ku poin2 aja ya :
Sbg ibu yang berkuliah harus ada back up utk urusan rumah + anak (apakah ada ART yg ngasuh juga atau dititip ke daycare?)
Anak tuh niru ortu banget! Aira bener2 kaya tantrum kl gak dikasih hape. Ya dikasih hape krn ibunya gak bs terus ndampingin krn harus kerja dari hape, jadi dia ngeliat ortunya jg main hape, kok gue gak boleh? Makanya akutuh minta bgt sm suami utk gak fokus ke hape kl lg sm hannah. Skrg aja hannah kerjaannya udh ngambil hape kl video call.. jangan smp kecanduan hape juga 🥲 dan bs bgt dimulai dr kita orangtuanya
Define lagi tujuan s2 apa, biar gak lost ditengah2. Atau bahkan sinkronkan kegiatan kita dengan jurusan s2 yang lagi diambil, biar semangatnya terus ada. Kakau kak tria tuh, kaya buanyaaakkkkk bgt yg diurusin, apalagi side bisnis-side bisnis demi menghidupi happiness family yg sebenernya gak tll in line sm kuliahnya di sosiologi walau, sebenernya beliau jg ambil sosiologi krn mo ambil pespektif utk social enterprise-nya
Nah itu poin dari kak tria, aku juga ngobrol sama kak wahyu dan kak ilma. Kak wahyu baru aja selesai thesis defense di MM UGM tmpt mas suami kuliah, dan kailma masuk semester 1 di Sekolah Bisnis IPB. Beberapa poin yg kudapat :
Juggling bgt kalau kuliah sambil kerja even ngambil kelas karyawan
Cukup sulit switching way of thinking anak saintek ke anak sosial. Kailma dulu anak teknik sipil, terus sekarang ambil sekolah bisnis, agak susah bund 🥲 walau kayanya sosial terlihat cukup mudah tp ternyata gak juga wkwkw. Ini jg ckp dialami sm suami sih, dan aku udh pernah dikasih tau sm soraya juga btw!!! Makanya aku kayanya mau stay di health field aja kayanyaaa tp blm tau apa. Ya kayanya sih early child health atau maternal health gt deh.
Hmm apalagi ya? Kayanya dua itu aja deh.. karena lebih banyak ngobrol ini itu sm kailma gak spesifik s2 karena tujuannya emg lebih ke ngobrol sm kak tria yg sama2 udh jadi ibu. Yaa gitu deh. Ini aja aku baru selesai pretest ielts.
Alhamdulillaahh targetku mo les ielts rahunnini insyaa Allah tercapai :”) karena iseng curhat di close friend ig, terus malah jadi mo les ielts brg sm mbak apik. Bismillah ya kita mbaakkk lanjut sekolah lg bismillaaahh! Semoga Allah dan suami ridho! Ikhtiyar aja dulu wkwkwk

Dibalik kebahagiaan tersimpan kesedihan
Belum lama ini cerita art-ku menggores hati. Beliau (usianya memang lebih tua dari aku) memang suka cerita mengenai kehidupannya, tentang anaknya, suaminya, orangtuanya, saudara-saudaranya padaku, begitupun aku suka cerita sama beliau - saking nyamannya aku udah menganggapnya sebagai saudaraku sendiri. Beliau orang yang sangat mudah tersentuh dan mudah menangis.
Suatu hari beliau cerita tentang hobinya yang suka menonton kehidupan artis, sebutlah inisial LK dan RB. Beliau suka menonton tentang kisah kehidupan mereka yang bahagia, materi yang berlimpah, kehidupan rumah tangga yang terlihat harmonis saat ini (pasca kejadian lalu), dan karunia anak yang lucu.
mba: "Bu, mba suka banget nontonin artis LK dan RB. Anaknya lucu banget, hidup mereka bahagia banget. Tapi mba malem-malem suka nangis".
aku: "Loh, kenapa mba emangnya nangis?"
mba: "iya, mba suka nangis, kenapa hidup mba kok gini banget, sedangkan mereka hidupnya bahagia banget".
Disitulah aku tertegun, nyess rasanya. Gak terbayang sebelumnya, ternyata benar adanya, bisa timbul kesedihan dibalik kebahagiaan yang dibagikan.
aku: "mba jangan sedih ya, kita cuma bisa lihat kebahagian orang lain, kita gak tau apa yang terjadi dibalik layar, semua orang punya kesedihan masing-masing yang gak mereka tunjukan".
mba: "iya ya bu, mba cuman ngebandingin sama hidup mba yang gak bahagia".
aku: "iya mba, di dunia itu bahagia cuman sebentar. Alhamdulillah, Allah kasih kita sehat, kasih anak mba sehat, kasih ibu mba sehat itu juga suatu kebahagiaan. Tujuan kita sebenernya adalah bahagia di akhirat nanti, nikmat dunia mah cuman sebentar. Nah, gimana caranya nih supaya kita bisa bahagia di akhirat nanti". ujarku saat itu yang bukan sama sekali niat menggurui, tapi justru sekaligus mengingatkanku.
Hal yang aku petik disini, ternyata kebahagiaan seseorang dapat menjadi tempat kesedihan seseorang. Apa yang kita maksud untuk membagikan kebahagiaan kita kepada orang lain, belum tentu diterima oleh orang lain dengan kebahagiaan juga. Dengan kejadian ini, sedikit menyadarkan aku untuk mulai hati-hati dalam sharing kebahagiaan dengan orang lain.
Selalu melihat kebahagian orang lain, bagi sebagian orang agaknya juga dapat mengurangi rasa syukur kepada sang pencipta. Padahal banyak sekali nikmat-nikmat yang sering kita lupakan, yang seringkali Allah limpahkan kepada kita. Benar adanya, jangan selalu melihat ke atas, tapi juga lihatlah ke bawah. Kebahagiaan itu bukan hanya berkutat pada materi yang dilimpahkan kepada kita, keluarga yang lengkap, pekerjaan yang sempurna. Kebahagiaan itu murni didapat dari rasa syukur atas nikmat kita yang diberikan dari Sang Maha Pencipta.

januari = bulan dimana aku mulai mengenal diri ku sendiri, apa yang aku mau dan apa yang aku butuhkan, mulai belajar mandiri dan tidak selalu bergantung dengan orang lain, NOW I AM SUPER INDEPENDENT WOMEN
FEB = learn new thing bulan ini aku banyak bgt masak dan mencoba resek baru. wow that's a new thing for me, walaupun hanya gak konsisten but u cool ga!, mulai bantu design-design lagi setelah vakum lumayan lama
march = full of happiness and blessing
april = lumayan dikecewakan oleh sekitar, ternyata apa yang aku berikan membuat sekitarku tidak nyaman, and i am really sorry for what i do, i just wanna help not anything, for that shit happend thankyou u make me be mature and not take it gegabah more slow life again
may = more art exibition, thats fun go to pameran dan melihat emosi para seniman yang terluapkan melalui karyanya dan i can feel that, got a chance to fg at muat event menteri perempuan and that new experience, go to new place more
june = more coffe hopping again, hang out with ma friends, omg i meet a new people with difrent background so greatfull that sourended by amazing people
july = OMG I GOT A JOB THAT I'V BEEN DREAM OF, finally jadi barista bro, ngonser truuss, july nginep di hotel dan dibayarin what a such experience maaf alay tpi ini hal yang jarang aku alamin, bulan tersibuk dan akhirnya aku mengalamin morat marit kehidupan yang selama ini aku impikan, gapapa capek kerja dan morat marit dari pada capek sama cinta melulu, mulai sibuk kepanitiaan
august = meet new people again with difrent country sumpah ini pengalaman yang sangat tidak akan terlupakan, aku merasa keren bgt di bulan ini, yo kerjo, yo volunteeran, yo kepanitiaan ini aku nobatkan bulan TERCAPEK TAHUN INI, and i meet person that i tought he's the ONE, nonton konser bareng orang baik, pengalaman baru juga, so fun augst i luv u agustus melihat band2 fav ku so much fun and cry
september = full of cry, nangis karna capek pikiran dan tenaga habis di bantai kerjaan dan kepanitiaan, selain itu juga nangis karena that person, ngonserr lagee ketemu band fav walaupun masi kit ati season
october = bulan terkaya aku selama hidup 19 thun, bertemu dengan teman lama juga thanks to decade

Terimakasih dan maaf aku ucapkan tahun ini padaku sendiri, dan kepada orang orang yang sudah datang dan pergi, aku tidak pernah menyesal bertemu dengan orang orang baru malah bersyukur karena kamu pernah dateng ke kehidupanku walaupun cuman sebentar but kamu memberikan pelajaran hidup yang sangat banyak, dan yang membuat aku jadi tahu siapa diriku sebenarnya, tahun ini banyak tangis kebahagiaan dan kekecewaan yang aku rasakan ku ucapkan terimakasih ini kepada tuhan yang tak punya agama karena masih memberikan ujian melalui tangisan tersebut, masih sama seperti tahun tahun sebelumnya tetap merawat kegagalan. hope that 2024 i can make more money and dihamburan untuk menonton band-band skena itu HAHAH pi nyu yer people yang tiap taun resolusinya new year new me eak
Thank you and sorry I said this year to myself, and to the people who have come and gone, I never regret meeting new people, instead I am grateful that you have come into my life even though it was only briefly but you gave a lot of life lessons, and that made me know who I really am, this year there were many tears of happiness and disappointment that I felt, I say thank you to God who has no religion because he still gives tests through these tears, it's still the same as the previous year, still taking care of failure. hope that 2024 i can make more money and spend it to watch the bands of that scene HAHAH pi nyu yer people who every year the resolution is new year new me eak

Entah mengapa. Begitu tergerak mencari namamu di google. Begitu membekas rasanya di hati. Kesannya dalem aja gitu.
Gilingan padi sih sebenernya. Tapi, sekali lagi, entah. Searching searching . Nemu Youtubenya. Nemu IGnya. Nemu Spotifynya.
Mudahmudahan sih bukan salah orang ya. Dan kemudian request IG nya di approved. Mungkin dia pikir aku hobby sepeda-an karena itu IGnya dia isinya sepeda semua. Padahal aku cuman cari dia. Itu aja. Nggak mungkin dia chat juga sih. Paling lupa.
Dan aku, seberusaha itu. Gak tau buat apa juga sih.
