started reading "daddyboy" by carol wolfe konek earlier; it's a memoir about a woman's experience (and her family's experience as well) as a caretaker for her father with alzheimer's, watching his decline. i anticipated that it would be a difficult read because of what's happening with my grandma right now, but i wasn't expecting to struggle with how much i relate to konek's relationship with her father before his illness, a very, very intelligent man who could be both loving and withholding in turn. it's making me think about watching my own father decline mentally someday, and given how remarkably intelligent he is (and like konek's father, defined in large part by that intelligence), it's tough! tough to think about!
