I’ve been watching episodes of Forever Knight(1992-1996) and the actress that plays Janette DuCharme (Deborah Duchene) keeps on giving me Alexandra Daddario vibes. So much so that I’m thinking of making a fan recast and having Alexandra Daddario fill the role.

Forever Knight 22

Solid mixture of cop show and Nick’s vampire angst.

The cop show part of the episode is a murder investigation. It plays out in predictable manner, but is always engrossing. A model (missing for four months) turns up dead. Then... another model vanishes. The script gives her several scenes of her own, so we know what has happened to her and who has kidnapped her. And why.

As well as playing detective, Nick spends a lot of time moping (of course!). He remembers his last kill. And flashbacks reveal the story behind it.

Nigel Bennett is fantastic, and Lacroix has all he best lines. The relationship between him and Nick is absolutely fascinating, and it is at it’s best here. The ending is harsh.

Andrea Roth is fantastic in this episode, playing two separate parts. She gets a lot of screentime as the kidnapped model and gets to play a range of emotions before and after the kidnapping. Her character is also responsible for her own escape. Her other character has less screentime, but has a wonderful scene with Nick (at least until he kills her). She has great chemistry with Geraint Wyn Davies.

It is Nick’s past, and his angst, that makes this such great TV. The cop show part is pretty good, but - for all it’s strengths - kinda generic. Nick’s past, however, is not generic. He really has a lot to feel bad about.

As well as Nick’s part relationship with Lacroix, this episode showcases his current relationship with Janette. Deborah Duchene is terrific in all her scenes.

The final scene, of course, has a big surprise to end the season. Somebody is back from the dead...

11. How many pairs of shoes do you own?

I used to be able to say “about 5″...but I have a type of cute little Nike Mary Janes that stopped being made about 5 minutes about I discovered them. So...I went on eBay and bought PILES of them so that I’d have them for years as they work out piecemeal. So...I think I have about 15 pair of those. I have three pair of tennis shoes (one current, one solid black in case I want to wear sneakers and still look decent, and one that is new to replace the ones that are current but getting worn out). I have three pair of Birkenstocks (all the same style) in various stages of breaking down. I have 1 pair of boots (comfy, warm Uggs) that are at the “now water leaks in” stage. I have one pair of nice sandals (SO UNCOMFORTABLE), and one pair of nice flats (so pretty...not very comfortable). I still have my wedding shoes. I have a pair of purple flip flops (well...I think I do; cats keep carrying off one shoe at a time) for wearing to the pool....where I haven’t been in over a year. So...I’d rather JUST have: my birks, my tennis shoes, 1 pair of nice flats, and 2 pair of cute-comfy Mary Janes. I’d LOVE to be able to say I have fewer than 10 pair of shoes. But...that’s sadly not the case.

23. Have you ever met any celebrities?

I have (though many of them would count as very minor)! I picked up both Majel Barrett Roddenberry and Jeremy Bullock (at separate times, for separate cons) from the airport to bring them to the convention. I’ve met Mark Ryan (repeatedly, and am friend with his wife), Michael Praed, Jason Connery, Ray Winstone (I babysat his daughter, too...and, because of Indiana Jones 4, that makes me one step removed from Harrison Ford), Nigel Bennett (had dinner with him), Geraint Wyn Davies, Deborah Duchene.

In the at-a-con, meeting in passing or in autograph/photo lines category, there are these: John de Lancie, Robin Curtis, Elisabeth Sladen, Claudia Christian, Clive Mantle...probably others I’m blanking on. In terms of stage door pouncing... Alexandra Silber (who was on “Lost Traveller” on SVU, and who was the most AMAZING Titania EVER at Chicago Shakespeare this spring, and who was gracious and hugged us and took selfies with us) and T.R. Knight (who was Bottom; I shook his hand), and...I’m sure others. ...I’ve been around a long time in fandom and going to theatre.

37. Favorite swear word?

FUCK. It’s gutteral, satisfying, and cathartic. Also one of the oldest words in our language--it’s from the Anglo-Saxon and predates modern English--to retain its pronunciation, usage, and meaning for probably over 1000 years.

45. What is your favorite accent?

Pretty much anything British Isles. I’m complete trash for All Things British.

86. What are you allergic to?

When I’m too thin, I have some trouble with milk products making me cough and wheeze. In large quantities, I get migraines from MSG. I have unspecified and unidentified environmental allergies that make me get sick most years in April, and that mean I get itchy and wheezy. I tested negative for All The Things on a skin test AND a blood test, so we don’t know what it is, and I just take a broad-spectrum anti-histamine.
