Last Movie: UHH 2046 by wong kar-wai this last weekend!! pretty fun and really pretty even if it was very straight. the joy of hearing different languages more than makes up for that though

Last Show: i DO NOT remember. i guess the newest season of iasip but that was ages ago

Currently Watching: mob psycho 100 season 3.... its been a lovely time seeing these kids be animated for the final arc......... also spy x family and pop team epic

Currently Reading: DOES VIDEO GAMES COUNT. i think disco elysium should ive been playing it finally and theres so much text that its just a novel. but other than that i still havent finished the secret history

Currently Working On: UHHH right now i should be. redoing my comic. or writing more for my oc story but its going slow because of real life alas

Favorite Color: TRULY depends on context. right now i think its light pinks and yellows

Sweet/Savory/Spicy: savory... i want some chicken now

Coffee/Tea/Cocoa: teas easier to make but cocoa is the all time favourite!!

Craving: mums tiramisu. its good and better than any other. OR some sort of nuggets perhaps

Scratchverse characters is like... a bunch of vigilantes and a bunch of anti-villains...

SOME of the villains are actually villains but it turns out I just like weird guys who cause problems

Vigilantes, heroes, and do-gooders:

Scratch (Seth) of course:

(they/them) soulfire w/ various related abilities of life, death, soul manipulation, and so on. a professional ballerina who does kickboxing to work out their feelings.

Electrojet (Annie):

(she/her) electrical powers, flight, and various electromagnetic supporting abilities (like degaussing or magnetizing). annie is a literal astronaut who was in the ISS when she got her powers.

Geckonyx (Naomi):

(she/her) the reptile-themed wallcrawler, with venomous touch and latent regenerative abilities. she is a herpetologist and a comic book nerd.

REfactor (TJ):

(he/him) power of explode your dick (he makes things explode and can also manipulate various pyrotechnics). He's a dishwasher.

Dr. Wormwood (Diana):

(she/her) a repressed LARPer, medievalist, and stage technician with heightened strength and superhuman reflexes who fights with a bo staff and has anger issues (not a villain i swear)

Auraglow (Angel):

(any pronouns) has the powers of the electromagnetic spectrum; initially only the visible spectrum and then later the non-visible spectrum (such as x-rays, or microwaves). college student, small-time model and drag queen, wants to be a fashion designer.

Le Grand Chevalier (Tama):

(she/her) (tama is a character i have in multiple settings including this one) Shocking loud voice; sonic scream and some mild metaphysical vocal abilities (the power of suggestion). She is a spoiled girl and a professional singer (metal, pop, etc.) with aspirations of opera.

Solomon Saint-Yves (Sonam):

(they/them/any) (this is scratchverse!Sulum) Shapeshifter, and also what if the hulk was blue. Is a veterinarian officially, but is also a blackmarket tailor, a biochemist, a metamaterial expert, and possibly a quantum physicist. Has a doctorate in veterinary medicine and a BS in biochemistry and mechanical engineering, currently in the process of getting an MS in applied physics.

Veritas (Micaela):

(she/her) (this is scratchverse!Qela) (also costume is in need of updating, i'll get to it) An inspector w/ the United States Department for the Registration of Individuals with Unique Abilities (D4R), but is a double-agent. By inspector I mean the bureaucratic type. More like a health inspector than a private eye. Anyway her powers are cat-like agility and reflexes, enhanced senses, slightly enhanced durability, and limited immortality (she has nine lives).

Antagonists, villains, etc:

Subjects Gemini and Taurus:

(both she/her)

Gemini (Pink) is a Taskmaster-style intuitive mimic with superhuman reflexes who can master almost any ability she observes (as long as it doesn't require a special superpower such as flight or superhuman strength) and has slightly enhanced speed and strength. She has an engineering degree but is not an engineer.

Taurus (Black) has superhuman strength and is bulletproof based on velocity. Otherwise she is only unnaturally durable, and things like fire or a regular human punch can still cause minor injuries in certain contexts. She never wanted to be the bad guy.

Both are paid test subjects/goons for the real big bad (a corporation and its CEO).

Taurus is a Cancer btw. lmao.

I think they are the first characters Scratch goes up against but I'm not 100% sure.

As for the rest...

I don't have drawings for the other antagonists yet lol—

The Harvestman (Daniel Saint-Fleur) (he/him):

This guy is like, plot important. Hypothetically. I say, not actually writing the story. And he looks like Jamie Hector.

Antihero of sorts. Dreamwalking, animancy, astral projection, power-stripping. He can see souls, drag them out, force them back in. A hitman, a pistolero; he dual-wields psionic revolvers developed by the same company Gem and Tau work for; these guns can harvest, store, and shoot what is essentially life force, to hone and capitalize upon his powers by making him more efficient and dangerous.

He is a nihilist, morally gray... was recruited at a very young age (aka: coerced). "I'm not a bad person, I just do bad things." Is resigned to this role. His power is difficult to use in a way that does not harm, and it is exploitable.

Also he can use his gun to revive people (in addition to incapacitating them) so like,

literally.

Not strictly a foe to a specific character, though will almost certainly go up against Scratch, in this hypothetical story that exists only in the form of notes.

Necromantis (she/her):

A bat-themed necromancer type. Her powers encompass metaphysical wind/air/pneuma/anima, she can fly, and also she can possess people. She's meant to be an opposite to Seth while having some of the same powers in a slightly different context. Also she's a #girlboss and actually is like. a bad person. lol.

Aspiring politician and managerial type.

Scratch foe.

The Psykopomp (Lilith) (she/her):

Previously known as the Sikopomp, or, much to her chagrin, the Sickopomp. Also previously a boy. (She transed her gender)

Not actually a psychopomp. Mostly an illusionist and a dreamwalker, who causes mirages, illusions, hallucinations, dreams, and so on by way of nervous system control. As she gains more mastery of her powers she will be able to cause more effects, both central and peripheral, including but not limited to temporary paralysis, pain, and potentially even death.

Latent mommy domme, synth player in a shitty indie neo-disco band, jokerfied by life. more disillusioned than evil.

TJ drives her fucking nuts. REfactor foe, naturally.

Cyberstorm (aka кибергроза́ aka Cpl_Keysmash) (she/her):

Hacker gamer e-girl. Wannabe catgirl. SHODAN. GLaDOS. Her powers are technokinesis, electroreception/electrolocation, induction and conduction, with control of technology and some electromagnetic frequencies (like radio) and she is capable of, yes, teleporting through electrical lines, phone lines, the computer, etc. a la 90s comic books and cartoons, via an incorporeal form.

The more she uses her incorporeal form the harder it is to turn back, so eventually she is permanently incorporeal and uses a robot for a body on the rare occasion she needs one.

In it for fun. Kind of a sadist.

Electrojet foe. Annie is vaguely concerned that Cyberstorm ought to be in college or something instead of hacking the mainframe for epic lulz.

Miserychord (they/them):

Mercy-killer nihilist. Did not set out to be evil per se, and is not necessarily like... a eugenicist, but feels the world is a cruel and unkind place, and it would be better to free people from their bonds. So like. Huge martyr complex and kind of self-centered lol. Anti-villain arguably.

Psionic energy manipulation typically in the form of strings—a bow and arrow, a metaphysical harp... can also create various projectiles, usually knives or daggers, and also... well, they have to have a misericorde, obv. Eventually probably extends to metaphysical puppet strings, strings of fate, grappling hook, etc. Also the strings make music.

Le Grand Chevalier foe. The two of them are kind of each other's weaknesses as Misery is largely psionic and Tama's powers are largely physical (air pressure), so they both have to work to learn defenses against the other.

Cardshark (TBD) (he/him):

Wormwood foe. Still deciding stuff. Some kind of card-based character, either like, steel playing cards as projectiles, or like... cardcaptor or yu-gi-oh style magic cards...

was considering having him be Diana's brother or something but not sure.

Water (TBD) (any and all pronouns):

that name is a wip lol

genderfluid water-themed? idk. maybe ice?? not sure.

Auraglow foe.

Dust Devil (?) (she/her):

Geckonyx foe... not sure on powers though... was thinking about electrical activity of dust devils but imo there are already several electrical characters here so i would prefer something else.

Ozymandias (Geoff Rust) (he/him):

Bezos-Musk-Gates-Jobs. He's a silicon valley entrepreneur CEO shithead. Genuinely evil.

Main big bad and my idea is that he uses a bunch of harvested souls/life force/etc. to power up into essentially a final boss (...literally) and ideally, poetically, a rag-tag bunch of superheroes and even some villains (etc) come together to defeat him and the deus ex machine last stand is, of course, the Harvestman.

FLASHBack: Week 60 - Geeks In Love

This week on FLASHBack, we're going to look at two artists who would be strong contenders for inclusion into my First-Class category, had I sat down and planned out the whole two years of these posts ahead of time and done all my research up front first instead of shooting from the hip week to week. We've already mentioned Neil "Lemon Demon" Cicierega and his contributions to Flash before, this time around we're looking at a collaboration of his with New Zealand Flash Animator Andrew Kepple, who was a frequent poster to Albino Blacksheep under the name Too Much Spare Time Productions. In February of 2006, Kepple decided to make an animation for Cicierega's song Geeks in Love.

The animation is a trove of geeky pop culture references, some of which I will catalog here: Crop Circles, Dr. Seuss, Chococat, Spock from Star Trek, Little Shop of Horrors, George Lucas, UFOs, The Matrix -- "There Is No Spoon", Sporks, the USS Enterprise, Powerpuff Girls, The Grand Unified Theory, Dr. Demento, Yatta!, Bohemian Rhapsody, Monty Python's Flying Circus, All Your Base Are Belong to Us, You're the Man Now Dog, Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings -- "And My Ax!", the O Rly? While in 2006, the mainstreaming of geek culture had already begun, geeks had yet to realize this was happening and so they clung to their old persecution complexes, seeing themselves as marginalized outsiders. Obscure pop culture references and meme-ry such as what Andrew Kepple loaded this animation down with were a quick way of identifying fellow geeks. Now a days, that's just how large swaths of people communicate online. So as a chaser for two weeks of love in a row, I think we'll be due for some excessive violence, so check in as we go back to Somewhere in Nevada.
