Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is a lot better than Dracula. The flow of the text is better, it's more fun to read, the themes are more subtle and interesting. Perhaps a better work to compare to would be The Vampyre, a work which arose from the same impromptu writing circle as Frankenstein, and which apparently introduced the vampire into anglophone literature in a form recognizably similar to that which appears many decades later in Dracula. However, I have read Dracula, and so have many others, and I have not read The Vampyre.
By way of example of the superiority of Frankenstein, consider the use of the epistolary device. Dracula retains it throughout the narrative, in which it interferes constantly, to no appreciable benefit. The rapid shift from narrator to narrator is not accompanied by significant insight into their character and internal world, as the characters are in fact precisely who everyone else takes them to be. By contrast, Frankenstein also begins with an epistolary introduction, but then transitions reasonably cleanly into narrative. The epistolary device is not used to much greater effect, but less of a bad thing is still an improvement.
The writing of these letters is remarkably bad. I understand that tastes change, but the letters (including those cited in the non-epistolary section) consist largely of people telling each other things they clearly already know, for the benefit of the reader. Surely there is no point in writing letters into the story if they're not going to make sense within the narrative? Additionally, both letters and dialogue are all rendered in the same voice.
On this note, while Shelley has gone to great lengths to justify the eloquence of the monster, and this eloquence does in fact serve a worthwhile thematic purpose, the effect of it is reduced somewhat by every other character being bizarrely eloquent as well. Additionally the mechanism by which the monster is rendered eloquent is quite frankly a long series of plot holes. As appropriate as it is for the monster to reference Paradise Lost, it is quite inexplicable for a French-speaking monster in 18th century Germany to have found a copy of it (and some other books) in the first place, let alone been able to read it, for starters.
Some of the character introductions, especially but not exclusively those done by way of letters, are a bit too obviously utilitarian. I rather prefer it when the author either sets up all the characters and plot points in such a way that the reader cannot tell that they serve a specific narrative purpose later, or that they simply introduce them when they come up. A character brought up with no immediate motivation a chapter or two before they become narratively relevant is like a recognizable big-name actor in a police procedural, it gives the game away. I wonder what happens in a couple chapters with this tragic innocent in this gothic horror novel!
Despite all my criticism, I quite liked Frankenstein and I think it is not only worth reading but additionally a good book. The story has relevant themes, ably explored, without letting them get too far in the way of a gripping narrative. The philosophical points it sets out are still valid and relevant today, and not in a facile way. Merely substitute "life" for "intelligence", which in any case is really a substitution of synonyms as far as the general form of the argument goes, and make other minor adjustments as necessary, and you get a more intelligent analysis of AI than almost any I have read in the press or in blogs, though that speaks more to the miserable state of that discourse than anything else.
Easily the most affecting part of the book is the narration by the monster himself, and really the book improves as it approaches this point, and deteriorates as it departs. Some decontextualized quotes that particularly stuck with me: "I, too, can create desolation; my enemy is not invulnerable; this death will carry despair to him", "My vices are the children of a forced solitude that I abhor", and best of all "I intended to reason. This passion is detrimental to me; for you do not reflect that you are the cause of its excess."

Hey all 👋 it's Ace/Kishin (depending on discord/tumblr) here to offer just a bit of extra info on everyone outside the refs (for now)
While most of my muses here are technically pokepasta, they're not in the same setting.
Blake, Gold, and Silver are all recovering from their individual pasta traumas. Alive and not, ghosts with heartbeats. No horror from them unless it's a nightmare event. References to what happened to them are also kept at a minimum. In the end, they are just slightly quirky versions of their game Canon selves
Steven still did everything from his pastas, and then everything in the Renegade route of Rejuv, but at the point he's at in this blog, it's all over and he's just another ghost in a timeline not his own. Still a scary guy
Grey is completely separated from his origin at this point. He still has all the canon from his lore, but he's in the middle of a completely different deal. Just a funny guy with a funny Hypno and beef from Darkrai. I also gave him his own pre-canon lore to make him fit in better.
Kuro is one of the 2 non pasta adjacent muses, one of the mc choices in Reborn. He's gone through the journey, and post game journey, and sits as Champ of Reborn. Not above breaking laws if he thinks it's the right thing to do
Aevery is the other non pasta muse and is completely my own, created to be the mc for my Paragon run of Rejuv. Just a little guy with trauma and a Rowlet. And 2 ghost guide sorta brothers that hate eachother
If anyone wants to know anyone more, please feel free to hit up the ask box! They won't bite~ (ok steve might). Much as I'd love to drop in on events and such, I know even just pasta adjacent isn't everyone cuppa, and I don't wanna get too involved uninvited with my poor schedule either so ask interactions are my best outlet

I've had little drive to blog, it feels a chore. I put too much care in my words, even these little blog posts that aren't supposed to mean more than what they seem. I might take a different approach to these. I like the idea, but the execution is flawed. Let me shake this up a bit.
Since my last post, I've celebrated Thanksgiving twice, and I've seen all my favorite 80s bands perform at Darker Waves music festival (the music was great, but that was some of the worst pizza I've ever had).
I've written a new song, and feeling a creative spark lately. I want to immerse myself in all of the best music and best art I can all the time every day. The only thing in my way is life.
Meteorite
Endless waves wash away all the light
all night
we were born and we died in the fight
waylaid in the sea
for all their gods to see
Take a look around yeah
I never felt so alive
Think I'll leave the light on tonight
Lemme find a way to climb aboard the meteorite
Catch as can if you can't understand
you're canned
We would graze on a desolate land
all your alien days
charged on a per hour rate
Come along baby lemme take you to paradise
It happened in a dream once
let me let it happen twice
Take a look around yeah
I never felt so alive
Think I'll leave the light on tonight
Lemme find a way to climb aboard the meteorite

Desolate Paradise June Update
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hey everyone!
I have another update again. A lot of stuff has been happening in my personal life that has caused a bit of slow down on development of my characters.
I’ve finally finished Julie after much trial and error due to the limited amount of information I had on her character. I ended up having to improvise a lot of her elements and what will fit in this Desolate Paradise story plot. Thankfully I’m quite content with what I’ve accomplished with her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now Kane...
Like I said before I had a good feeling that he would easier to figure out then Julie. After plenty of brainstorming ideas I’m content with the direction of his character / villain. I just need to finish it and get him out the way.
Next will be Jacob and Dr. Hudson, I know these guys will be a lot easier in the story because of the ideas I had for them before Kane and Julie.
So wish me luck!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for my drawings, I don’t really have much at the moment due to Kane and Julie’s character references taking a lot of my time. Once I finish them I’ll be taking a break from writing and focus on drawing for a while in July.
Don’t worry, I will still work on Jacob and Dr. Hudson, when new ideas come around.
Tumblr media
That is all I have to say in this update.
I’m glad you guy’s take the time to read and support me, it means a lot to me even though a lot stuff has happened in my personal life during the start of this project that delayed it and causes a lot pauses for the comic to be released.
I’m working really hard this year and trying to reach my goals for 2023.
Thank you again for having patience and sticking with me.
I will see you all at the end of July!

May 10, 2021: Blade Runner 2049 (2017) (Recap: Part Two)
Said I’d talk about artificial humans in sci-fi, so...
Tumblr media
There are a HELL of a lot of examples of artificial humans in science-fiction, as well as the ethical and philosophical concepts that their existence raises. Now, your definition of “artificial” may differ from medium to medium. At its base form, these are humans that are not born, but made. I’ll be talking fleshy organic humans, not robotic ones. The most common of these is, of course, clones.
A clone, strictly speaking, is a genetically identical copy of a pre-existing organism, in this case a human. While this isn’t technology we’ve applied to humans as of yet (due to the NUMEROUS ethical problems and questions), we have done so with animals, mostly sheep and cats. It’s actually a good way to de-extinct certain species, and we’ve already done experiments with that. Of course...that has its own concerns.
Tumblr media
Keeping up the Jurassic Park reference streak! Anyway...
Tumblr media
There are a FUCKTON of examples of clones in science-fiction, but since I’m a massive comic book nerd, I’ll use Superboy. The genetic combination of Superman and Lex Luthor, Conner Kent is one of the most prominent clone superheroes. He’s not the only clone of Superman, of course. He’s not even my favorite clone of Superman, to be honest...
Tumblr media
Bizarro am the worst. ME WILL LIVE ON THAT HILL.
Oh, and let’s not forget THE most prominent artificial human in comic books PERIOD. I don’t care what her origin in the movies is, that’s never been my favorite version of Wonder Woman. Making her a demigod robs her of something important, in my opinion.
Tumblr media
...Should I make a comic book blog? Shit, thinkin’ about it.
OK, before I do that, these are just my favorite examples. Fact is, there are FAR too many examples of artificial humans to go into, whether they’re built, grown, sculpted, conjured, or a chemical reaction with an extra ingredient in the concoction.
Tumblr media
And look, I could go on all day about this, but we got a long-ass movie to get back to. SO, lets jump back in. Part One is here!
Recap (2/2)
Tumblr media
Understandably exhausted, K returns home, confused and conflicted. However, he’s greeted with a surprise from Joi: a prostitute! Namely, this is Mariette (Mackenzie Davis), one of the girls who approached him earlier. Joi’s called her here in order to be “real” for K, the effect is impressive, if somewhat...off-putting. Still, while K obviously didn’t need this to be happy with their relationship, Joi might, and Mariette’s all on board.
Tumblr media
And it doesn’t take K terrible long to get on board, either. As both Mariette and Joi strip, it makes me wonder...how much does this subscription service for Joi cost. There’s no goddamn way this is free, right? Like, how exclusive IS this AI? And they cut from that scene to a Joi commercial, where we hear that Joi becomes anything you want her to be, and does anything you want her to do. But something tells me that...well, that it’s not quite so simple.
Once the night is over, Joi tells Mariette to leave, and not nicely either. Mariette leaves, rebuking her on the way out as well. K, meanwhile, knows that the Blade Runners will soon be coming after him. He’ll be going on the run, and Joi wants to go with him. And so, they put her inside of a remote device, while deleting her information from the main apartment console. This gets the attention of Luv, who head over to the apartment to figure out what’s going on.
Tumblr media
K goes to Doc Badger (Barkhad Adbi), who analyzes the horse for him. It’s discovered that old radiation can be found there, and that amount and kind of radiation can only be found in areas where a dirty bomb has been set off. This would be in the desolate and weird-ass ruins of Las Vegas. While nobody lives there at this point, K and Joi go to check it out.
An IMMENSELY frustrated Luv, unaware of K’s discovery about himself, goes to confront Joshi about K’s whereabouts. Luv berates her for being afraid of change, and tells her that she “can’t fend off the tide with a broom”. Which is a great line. However, as Joshi is no use to her at this point, Luv just straight up kills her. Which, I’m sure, will go over well with the whole “Replicants aren’t dangerous” thing.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, in Vegas...shit is WEIRD. First off all, the desolate wasteland is full of statues of giant sexy wimmin, and I mean GIANT statues. Beneath one of them is a series of beehives, which K goes into to get a hand of beeeees. After that, he goes into an abandoned hotel/casino, rigged with tripwires and booby traps. OK. What.
So, somebody’s using this place as a hideaway, despite the entire city being destroyed by a dirty bomb, and probably extremely radioactive. K searches around and finds it empty. He begins to play a piano, hoping to draw someone out. He ends up drawing out a dog, as well as the inhabitant of the hotel.
Tumblr media
Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), baby! Quoting Stevenson’s Treasure Island and holding K up at gunpoint with dog at side is the original Blade Runner himself, Rick Fucking Deckard. God, I love this. Deckard hunts K down throughout the casino, where we see some trippy holograms, and the future of Vegas stageshows (probably).
The two fight, but eventually call a truce and decide to get a drink at the bar. K gets to it pretty quickly, and confronts Deckard on his potential child with Rachael. He confirms that Rachael was indeed pregnant by him, but he had never met his child. Which was the plan, to be fair. He wanted their child to be protected, not hunted down and eventually dissected.
Sometimes, to love someone...you gotta be a stranger.
Tumblr media
To an old Frank Sinatra song, a forlorn K (now calling himself “Joe”) looks around, and sees carved wooden animals that resemble the horse that’s haunted his life and memories so much by this point. Which makes sense, considering the foil unicorn from the previous film. Neat little tie-in there.
But paradise is not all it’s cracked up to be, as someone soon comes to find both K and Deckard, despite the fact that K came alone. Although, now that I think about it, Joi may not be one that you can truly trust. Deckard and K try to escape their pursuers, but are caught pretty quickly. In the process, K is injured, but manages to get up in order to fight back. However, this is Luv with these people, and she beats K down EASILY. Turns out that Luv is actually an enforcer, rather than just a secretary. And when Joi awakens from K’s device to ask her to stop, well...she kills the device, and she kills K. In the process, she also takes Deckard away, leaving K behind. Fuck.
Tumblr media
K wakes up, only to discover Mariette standing over him in the Las Vegas wasteland. She takes care of him as he wakes up, also stitching up with wounds from the explosion. She tells K to trust her, as well as her compatriots. One of them is the hooded woman from earlier, a Replicant named Freysa (Hiam Abbass). An old friend of Sapper’s she saw the delivery of the child, the “miracle”, and also hid the child away, as it was a symbol that the Replicants are more than just slave, that they are their own masters.
Freysa is building a revolution in order to free the Replicants once and for all. And I’m hard-pressed to disagree with their cause, not gonna lie. However, this comes at a price. In order to prevent Wallace from killing the cause, K must prevent Deckard from leading them to Freysa. They must do what they can until they can reveal the child to the world. For she will be their leader.
Fuck.
Tumblr media
Understandably COMPLETELY crushed at this revelation, and more confused than ever, K collapses. Freysa tells him that they ALL wish they were the one, and they all believe. It’s at this point, that K realizes exactly who the Hybrid is: Dr. Ana Stelline. The horse from earlier, it turns out, did in fact belong to her, and she planted her childhood memory with the horse in K’s mind as a Replicant. Damn. DAMN! That’s why the memory moved her so: because it was hers.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Deckard awakens to a separate nightmare: Jared Leto telling him how he feels about him. After all, Deckard helped to create the first Replicant-human hybrid. He asks him for his help in obtaining the child, so that the key of Replicant reproduction can be further unlocked. And he proceeds in convincing Deckard by playing audio of Rachael and his first meeting (from the first film, of course).
Niander fucks with him further, by suggesting Deckard was summoned all those years ago specifically to fall in love with Rachael in order to father a child with her. But despite all of this, Deckard refuses to give up any of his information. And so, Niander pulls out his ace-in-the-hole...and it’s a real shitty thing to do to a man in mourning.
Tumblr media
Damn. Dude rebuilt Rachael, tries to tempt Deckard with her, FAILS, then lets Luv shoot her in the head. Fucking power move, and fuck Niander for playing it. Dude is a DICK. Meanwhile. that one visual from every single ad of this movie is happening, and I can FINALLY use one of the 8000 GIFs of it, goddamn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not gonna lie, it’s an iconic appearance, so I get why it’s so famous. Anyway, K considers a suicidal option, now that he knows the truth. However, before we get to see the final decision, we get to see Deckard being taken back to LA for interrogation by Wallace. However, to prevent him from potentially leading Wallace to the secret of Ana Stelline, K suddenly appears, opening fire on their ship.
The craft is downed, and K exits the car to engage in a firefight with Luv. He appears to win, but Luv isn’t killed once she’s shot. The two have a fistfight out in the rain, and Deckard waits for water to slowly kill the craft that he’s still inside of.
Tumblr media
As expected, Luv handles herself well, and despite a number of close calls, she JUST. WILL. NOT. DIE. Damn, she’s resilient. However, despite K, Luv, and Deckard all nearly drowning in an INTENSE fight between the Replicants, an enraged and crazed Luv finally eventually drowns, ending her threat for good.
K saves Deckard from the sinking ship, and agrees to stage his death, allowing him to meet his daughter for the first time. Once at her facility, K returns Deckard’s horse to him, knowing that it was a gift from him. He tells Deckard that his best memories all come from her, implying that this makes him similar to Deckard’s son, which he picks up on when he asks if he’s OK.
Tumblr media
Deckard goes to meet his daughter, and K hangs out on the stairs outside. He feels the snow fall on his hand, and he just...watches it all fall around him. He sits, and he watches it all. And meanwhile, Deckard meets his daughter for the first time.
Tumblr media
...Can I just say...GODDAMN!
That movie was absolutely stellar, and it’s definitely landing in the high ‘90s for me, calling it now. I...wow. Seriously. Amazing.
See you in the Review!

Anime i’ve Watched
That begin with a W!
Yep this is how i’m going to bring over all the anime and manga i’ve watched and posted about on the old blog. It’s not so detailed but it will have to do. Anything new I watch or read from this point on will have their own posts.
Watashi ga Motete Dousunda (Kiss Him, Not Me!):
Genres: Reverse Harem, Comedy, Romance, School, Shoujo
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Kae Serinuma is a very kind second-year high school student and a devoted otaku. A little known fact about her, though, is that she's obsessed with BL, or Boy's Love. Serinuma can't help but to fantasize about her male classmates falling for each other and enjoys imagining them together. A more known fact about Serinuma, however, is that she’s noticeably overweight. While watching her favorite show one day, Serinuma witnesses the death of her most beloved character. Utterly depressed, she can't muster up the energy to eat her meals, let alone attend school. After an entire week, she finally recovers. But now there's something unusual about her—during the time she refused to leave her room, she ended up losing a large amount of weight and has somehow become strikingly beautiful! Now catching the eye of everyone who sees her, she finds herself at the center of attention of four boys she has always known at her school. Though they all wish to spend time with her, Serinuma would much rather they spend time falling in love with one another. How will Serinuma deal with the four boys pursuing her BL-obsessed self? My Thoughts: Love it! Love the art, characters, story, comedy, all of it. Also a big fan of the manga (which is finished btw)... now if only they’d release a second season and finish the story off.

Though long thought to be extinct, wolves still exist and live amongst humans, disguising themselves through elaborate illusions. A lone wolf named Kiba finds himself drawn by an intoxicating scent to Freeze City, an impoverished town under the rule of the callous Lord Orkham. Here, Kiba discovers that wolves Hige, Tsume, and Toboe have been drawn in by the same aroma. By following the fragrance of "Lunar Flowers," said to be the key to opening the door to their ideal world, the wolves set off on a journey across desolate landscapes and crumbling cities to find their legendary promised land. However, they are not the only ones seeking paradise, and those with more sinister intentions will do anything in their power to reach it first. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

My Thoughts: That animation/ artwork is dated and I have trouble ignoring that fact. The soundtrack is also dated but in a delightful sort of way unlike the artwork. I don’t know... I just wasn’t that into this series but i’ve heard from plenty of folks who were so don’t just take my word for it and give it a try if you’re interested!
Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii:
Genres: Comedy, Romance, Slice of Life
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  Having slept through all four of her alarms, the energetic Narumi Momose finds herself running late for her first day of work at a new office. As she races to catch her train, she makes a promise to herself that none of her coworkers will find out about her dark secret: that she is an otaku and a fujoshi. Her plan goes instantly awry, though, when she runs into Hirotaka Nifuji, an old friend from middle school. Although she tries to keep her secret by inviting him out for drinks after work, her cover is blown when he casually asks her whether or not she will be attending the upcoming Summer Comiket. Luckily for her, the only witnesses—Hanako Koyanagi and Tarou Kabakura—are otaku as well. Later that night, the pair go out for drinks so that they can catch up after all the years apart. After Narumi complains about her previous boyfriend breaking up with her because he refused to date a fujoshi, Hirotaka suggests that she try dating a fellow otaku, specifically himself. He makes a solemn promise to always be there for her, to support her, and to help her farm for rare drops in Monster Hunter. Blown away by the proposal, Narumi agrees immediately. Thus the two otaku start dating, and their adorably awkward romance begins. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Word prompt request pls? Minghao and hands?
(A/N: I uh...if you guys have been following my blog and Leanne's, we've been watching an anime called A Certain Scientific Accelerator and have been going crazy over it for a past few days. I always loved that series and took the time to read the novels, so this was directly inspired from it....i know you guys wanted some fluff but im in a mood for horror these days 😂 -Hyeri)
"Just a little bit more."
In this deep dark underbelly of a certain city of science, lies a dim luminance amidst the abyss. Light reflected from the human-sized cylinder filled with an unknown liquid, illuminating the large room with a freakishly green glow.
"Just a bit more...with these hands..."
A young man whispered to himself little encouragements as he continued to dance his fingers on the keyboard. His monitor was showing various stats as cables big and small wrapped around him and the cylinder in a snake-like hold.
Despite the speed of his hands, the young man was holding back sobs, puncturing his voices of encouragement like a pierce through the heart.
"I'll...I'll grant your wish..."
In this deep dark underbelly of a certain city of science, a different kind of flower had bloomed.
Years before everything had happened, life was much easier and uncomplicated.
He was Xu Minghao back then, a talented neuroscientist who came to the city lured by generous research grants and advanced technology. There wasn't any downsides as he began his research on dementia and neurological diseases. It was the greatest time of his life surrounded by people who thought like him and appreciated what he was seeking. It was paradise.
Yet when Minghao thought it couldn't get any better, you came along.
"This is test subject 00 - 1a."
You were introduced to him the day, the first of his human volunteers.
"Call me Y/N though! Being called a test subject is pretty awful," you told him as soon as the other head scientist walked away.
Minghao smiled, he had feared you'd be as stoic as the name given to you, yet it seemed those fears were unfounded.
"Then nice to meet you too, Y/N. I'm Minghao," he replied and you grinned, flashing your bright full smile.
"I'll be in your care, doc!"
Y/N was someone who was easy to work with, as Minghao had noted in his logbook. You were nice, cooperative and friendly, and little did he realize how he was slowly growing attached to you.
"Looks like your vitals are fine, Y/N," he told you one day after a regular checkup after a round of tests. "I'm wondering though, why did you become a test subject for this kind of research?"
To his question, you had only grinned. The dull teal green gown on you flowing like the wind as you moved, making him look elsewhere.
"Now, now, doc~ Are you curious?" You asked with a teasing look, "Haven't you found out anything in your research?"
Minghao glanced at you with a frown. "You seem pretty normal, apart from your sudden bouts of unconsciousness."
Smiling, you replied with a twinkle in your eyes. "Looks like you aren't from around here, are you doc?"
It didn't take him long to warm up to you and your bubbly personality. It was the only warmth he could feel down in the desolate and freezing labs, the only one who could make him feel less like a bastard for experimenting with humans and more of a doctor trying to help someone.
"You like to paint, doc?" You asked, munching on a sandwich as you watched him type on a computer.
"From time to time. Why'd you ask?" He replied as he looked up to you.
"Your desktop wallpaper. I felt like you drew that."
"Oh?" Minghao raised his brows, piqued by your comment. "You're quite intuitive, aren't you?"
"I have level 1 telepathy. It's more than enough to sense a few things," you told him with a slight giggle.
"That's amazing. I didn't realize the extent of your abilities," Minghao remarked, to which you only waved your hand in dismissal.
"Not as amazing as others out there," you continued, as your tone went to a downcast turn. "I'm a level one and I can't see a day without suddenly collapsing. Here in this city, people like me are called liabilities."
That was the first time he had heard you open up to him. Minghao gazed at you with heaviness in his heart as you made a bitter and cynical smile.
"I wanted to be useful, just for once in my life. Even if that means I have to be a test subject, at least I can help other people with conditions like me, right doc?"
Despite the smile on your face, Minghao felt the pain and the hurt you had endured all your life. He hated it. He hated how much life had robbed you of the light; a light which you were now ironically seeking at a place where it never shines through.
"It's ok, Y/N," Minghao told you as he wrapped ypu in a tight hug. "I'll help you with your dream. I'll make sure that this research wouldn't be in vain."
With that promise, Minghao began to work extensively. He wanted to remove that painful look on your face as you smiled at him, waving as if it was normal to sit inside a large machine trying to manipulate your brain. It was a sacrifice you were willing to make, and he was determined to achieve your goal.
It was for you. All for you.
Minghao wasn't stupid. He knew you were dying. The bouts of fainting and collapsing was getting more and more frequent. Each passing day, you had grown weaker and he was becoming more and more desparate.
"Her condition is worsening, Dr. Xu. What do we do? She's the most successful of all test subjects."
There was no need for asking.
"Let's move to phase two."
He hadn't thought of it at first, but he had already sunk himself knee deep into the mud without even knowing. He had never realized how twisted this city was and how he had submerged himself in its dark, dark abyss voluntarily.
The first time he saw it was during a failed test.
A huge forced slammed around the thick concrete walls of the room, creating a slight tremor. The glass separating the scientists from the test site suddenly cracked, reflecting the horror on Minghao's face as he saw you pick up a stray iron bar and walked towards a weakened attendant with an uncomprehensible expression on our face that was akin to wicked delight.
"Die. Die. Die. Die! Die!!!"
You screamed, hammering the attendant with the iron bar hard enough to draw blood.
"N-no...stop it! Y/N stop!"
Minghao was the first one to scream as he raced down the testing room, bursting the door open and stopping you before you could commit murder.
He had never recovered from what he saw that day, yet he didn't have the strength to stay away from you.
"...what happened that time, Y/N?" Minghao asked, interviewing you.
You gazed at him, eyes tinged with panic.
"I...I don't know. I'm sorry..."
Minghao could feel the anxiety in your voice, the guilt of killing with your own hands. He didn't want this.
"Y/N, let's just stop this..."
"No!" You shouted, which then turned into soft sobs. "No...no....not now, please, doc. I don't want to be like this anymore...I don't want to be sick anymore."
"Y/N..."
"Please...would you grant me my wish?"
And he did.
And it came with a terrible price.
"No, h-help! Help me please!"
Screams were heard inside the testing room, blood was splattered on the wall. Yet Minghao had become tolerant of it. It was ok. It was for you.
"Who would've thought overlaying a Level 5 esper's thought patterns would make her more stable, though a bit violent. This is good data, Minghao. Congratulations."
He could hear the grant sponsor greet him yet his face remained stoic. He glanced at the folder beside him, not noticing that the research had changed names over the course of several years.
"This marks the first step to the project. Thank you for your work, Doctor."
He was congratulating Minghao as if it was the end. No, it isn't the end. Not yet.
In the deep dark underbelly of a certain city of science, Minghao walked towards the testing room. He could hear water dripping in irregular beats, his steps echoing across the lab.
It was once clean and bright, but now it was in disarray. Abandoned and empty after an incident years before. Minghao had moved on to other projects as well yet he still came back.
"Hi, doc," you greeted him with a bright smile, hands bloody and uniform stained red.
"Hi, Y/N," he replied, his eyes were now heavy and exhausted. Xu Minghao had changed over the years. "How's school?"
Grinning, you pushed the body of a female classmate out of the way so you can reach him.
"It was great! I made some friends, but they didn't really like me..." you pouted, seemingly innocent. "So I made them like me!"
Minghao made a small smile. This was fine. At least you were happy.
In the deep dark underbelly of a certain city of science, a murky darkness filled with despair existed.

Due to recent events I’ve decided to battle the bad vibes with some LOVE!
So here are a few of the Bucky fics I’ve read or I’m currently reading that I love, I might miss a few but maybe if I pick up my reading again this lists will become more of a regular thing on my blog
Superpower by @interestedbystanderwrites Technically this is enemies to lovers but it really is just two very stubborn people that don’t know how much they want each other yet also Bucky is very dumb at flirting and we love him for it! and it’s inspired by a Beyoncé song what more could anyone want in a fic
All Those Who Wander by @avengerofyourheart Summary: After a traumatic injury and honorable discharge from the military, Bucky Barnes finds himself wanting to travel and get lost in some of the most iconic cities of the world. One night he stumbles upon a girl who sparks something inside him and he finds himself following in her footsteps. How far will he go to find her and what will he discover about himself along the way?
This series is the softest read you can imagine, most of the fic is in Bucky’s POV so you really are accompanying him on this journey to find himself again and maybe find some love too. it’s a very tender read and it’ll warm your heart.
Remind Me by @holy-captain Summary: You have been away for months on an undercover mission with no contact with the rest of the Avengers. Your excitement to finally be home is quickly lost when you make the terrifying discovery that your boyfriend doesn’t remember you.
This fic gives me all of the feelings like the situation anyone could write it in the most angsty way possible but Liv has written it in such a  sweet beautiful way were you are really reading the story of two people fighting for their love and their undeniable connection and it’s so so beautiful
Cast Away by @areyoureadyforsomemeatballz Summary: After a mission gone awry, you end up stranded on a deserted island. While you know that you have the skills to survive in the desolate paradise, you’re not sure if your heart will.
I love this fic so much I’ve enjoyed every single chapter it always brings a smile to my face, especially the interactions between Bucky and the reader, all these emotions they are just building up and it’s perfect! I MEAN THE LAST CHAPTER LIKE YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN’T HIDE GIRL!!!
The Mystery of Love by @bucky-smiles Summary: He just wanted a proper goodbye.
This is so angsty and so fucking sad but it’s a good kind of sad like all the pain you went through while reading it is so worth it, it’s written beautifully and you just understand and support Bucky throughout the fic.
Say Yes to Life by @kentuckybarnes
Summary: Retired since the defeat of Thanos, the original Avengers have been busy involved in the public eye as diplomats and political do-gooders. But Bucky struggles to adapt to the responsibilities of polite society and scrutiny - spiraling downwards, he thinks that maybe he just needed a friend
both of the main characters in this fic feel so real to me, their problems and dreams don’t seem that far away from real life, every chapter I’ve read has me doing some desperate shiping and also if you’re hungry and you’re reading this series it might not be that convenient for you  (also Hannah I’m glad you stayed).
Last but not least this isn’t a fic but I have to shout out @searchingforbucky @searchingforbuckyfavs for saving the lives of hundreds of starving Bucky fic readers and also creating wonderful Fic Rec lists! Thank you for existing!
ANYWAYS LET’S FIGHT THE SOURNESS WITH SOME LOVE!  LET’S MAKE THIS ENJOYABLE FOR EVERYONE AND  GO READ YOUR FAVORITE FICS AND LEAVE COMMENTS AND REBLOGS OR MAKE LISTS LIKE THIS 💖😁
