How do you think Sam felt about having sex with Ruby’s vessel? Did he need to rationalize that to himself or just the fact that Ruby was a demon?

this is such a delicious ask, i'm sorry it's taken me a while to get to.

there's just so much going on when it comes to sam/ruby. i draw a lot from comments from others on this, specifically those who are more familiar with the production and things the producers have said over the years in interviews. two things i've read as insights from the creative team (i think mostly from sera gamble?) are that:

it was important to sam that ruby's vessel was empty, otherwise that sex wouldn't/couldn't have happened (i think sera gamble had to fight for this or push its importance to her male co-creatives?)

sleeping with ruby was a form of "self harm" for sam.

I'm not sure where/how to find the original sources for those quotes as they're secondhand things I've read on tumblr about things said at cons and through other sources, but I fold both into my read on how Sam felt about having sex with Ruby and with her vessel.

So - to answer your actual question -

he felt like shit about it. and continued to feel like shit about it. and continued to do it. because he was in an incredibly self-destructive space and continued to be, and that self-hatred manifested in this particular way, for a variety of reasons.

And to unpack that a bit more...

1. sam has been possessed (by meg). he knows how it feels, and it Does Not Feel Good. his body was used to hurt people he cares about, to kill.

2. sam is consistently concerned about possessed vessels, where practicable. in the precinct seige during Jus In Bello, the fact that the "kill the virgin" spell could blast the demons out of the many possessed people outside is important to him. where dean reads the situation as killing an innocent woman, sam reads it as saving a few dozen people (at the cost of one, rather than the potential cost of many others if they try to shoot their way out). neither perspectives are singularly right but their different perspectives are informed by their different experiences, imo.

3. sam is saved by ruby wearing her 1.5 vessel and he promptly berates her for wearing some poor woman's skin, even if she saved his life, tells her that he doesn't want her help, and to get out of the car. he literally leaves her by the side of the road.

4. ruby 2.0 shows up with a certificate to verify that her chosen vessel is empty except for her. sam does not argue nor slam the door in her face, but asks for details. it's a major shift from one scene to the next in terms of how he is responding to her.

i'll also note that sam didn't complain about her 1.0 vessel's occupant during the time they were getting to know one another, which i think is interesting. my personal read is that sam considered that acceptable collateral damage in order to save dean from hell (what ruby promised him in season 3), and that after she failed to deliver, this compromise he'd made with himself over that collateral damage was no longer in play, nor was his patience for her.

(side note: i wonder if sam's greater tolerance of crowley, eventually, is because he came to learn or understand at some point that crowley's vessel is similarly empty?)

anyway, bringing all those points together, my read is that sam had to do a lot of self-rationalizing when it came to sleeping with ruby's vessel. sam is nothing if not pragmatic (if unhinged and insane) in his approach to dilemmas, so i think he could and did rationalize to himself that the body being empty means he's not hurting anyone by having sex with ruby in that form, but i don't think he'd fully convince himself.

so the discomfort and guilt and self-loathing would be... intense. she's a demon. demons killed his mother, his father, his brother. everyone he's ever loved. she saved his life. he doesn't trust her, he can't trust her. he can't afford not to trust her. he's got nothing left to lose. the only thing he has left is the part of himself that's stayed on the straight and narrow, that respects dean's dying wish, that refuses to turn into whatever his family (his brother) tried (died) to save him from becoming.

(sam himself lies to dean and says "it was practically your dying wish" that he not do exactly he's been doing (and more). sam knows there's betrayal here, and it's a betrayal that matters to him personally, or else he wouldn't hide and lie about it. he's never had any issue picking fights if/when he thinks he has the moral high ground.)

so... yeah. sleeping with ruby is an act of self-harm. he's obviously attracted to her vessel, and to her personality as ruby in that vessel, but that's not the key point. the key point is he hates himself for failing to save dean, for his brother dying because of him and being in hell because of him, and he's literally suicidal at this point in the narrative.

the fact that her vessel is empty is incredibly important, and i think a line he couldn't cross otherwise, but that doesn't mean he's okay with the fact that he's actually having sex with the body of someone who hasn't consented. and there's no doubt in my mind that somewhere in the back of his mind is both the fact that he's been possessed and has had his body used for things he was Not Okay with, and the fact that he's been dead (an empty vessel) and it's not like he would have been okey dokey with a demon possessing his corpse and sleeping with someone.

he knows it's a violation, no matter which way he slices it. and he uses that fact to hate himself a little more, so that the very act of sleeping with ruby is, in a sense, a way to punish himself for:

a) being attracted to her as a demon,

b) being attracted to her (helpless, innocent) vessel,

c) wanting connection because he's so goddamn lonely, and

d) being a monster/freak in the first place.

these are either things he's not supposed to feel because they're sinful wrong (attraction to a demon or vessel), or he deserves them (loneliness, feeling like a freak). this is what he's convinced himself of, and therefore how ruby acts as a both balm and escape (how it feels, how she soothes him) and punishment (how he deserves the influx of self-loathing and guilt and shame that comes from all that he is doing with her, from how this verifies all the worst parts of himself he was afraid of).

that being said -- as it goes i think he suppresses those feelings more and more because of what he gets from being with her, the connection and the blood and the high and the power and the sense of control over his destiny. but it's never that far from the surface, and we know how all that goes.

You stood in Bobby’s living room, listening to Dean on the phone talking to Castiel.

When he hung up you smirked, “finished with your boyfriend?”

“Really Y/n, jealous, need me to bring you back downstairs and show you exactly who I want, ” he grinned when he saw you shifting uncomfortably and started to rub the back of your neck, thinking about the last time you were both downstairs.

As you were leaving, you hugged Bobby “Are you sure you don’t want me to stay?”

“No, now get out of here and be safe,” he hugged you back.

You pulled up to the hospital and you squirmed in the back “So, I'm thinking you might need a getaway driver,” you stated.

“Coward,” Sam laughed at you.

“Stay here and keep guard” Dean stated. " But if we ring and need you in there, you come okay?”

“Yes sir,” you saluted.

Dean leaned in the window and kissed you, he pulled back, just a tiny bit, and you still felt his breath on your lips.

“You know, I remember the first time you called me sir,” he husked “Don't think I will ever get tired of it,” and he kissed you again.

“Well technically I wasn't calling you sir, I was trying to prove a point,” you explained.

“Not how I remember it” he smirked kissing you again.

Sam coughed

"Yea we know you're there," Dean huffed pulling away “Be right back,” he promised.

It took all your strength not to run in after them, feeling uneasy staying in the car, You got up a few times and walked around the Impala.

You then turned on the stereo, hoping it would help distract you. After your fifth air drum solo, which you totally rocked and the concert you gave to your adoring fans, you couldn't wait anymore. you had to go in.

“Gross gross gross,” you wretched as you stalked your way through the corridor. You jumped when a hand grabbed your shoulder, Spinning round to stab whoever or whatever it was. You sighed in relief when you saw Castiel. But relief turned to concern when you looked at him.

“Cas” you whispered loudly "Are you okay ?” grabbing him and looking him over.

He was shocked at first at your concern but then gathered himself.

“Come, they are in trouble,” he stormed off making you run behind him.

As you and Castiel went to enter the room he held out his arm blocking you from entering the room. shaking his head no. You looked at him confused.

“Let me go first, " he whispered.

You stood for a minute, then you heard him scream.

As pestilence took too much joy in torturing him, he didn't notice you behind him. He let out a scream when you brought the blade onto his finger.

“These are my boys,” you hissed.

You were slammed onto our back when Pestilence's friend attacked you, but you managed to stab and kill her.

You helped Castiel up, your eyes never leaving pestilence.

“It doesn't matter, it's too late,” he said vanishing.

You walked into Bobby's living room and threw yourself down on the chair.

"Okay Bobby, we really need good news,” you sighed and you all explained what Pestlince had said.

“Well,” Bobby started “Chicago is about to be wiped off the map,”

“I don't understand your definition of good news,” Castiel stated confused.

��Neither do we,” you mumbled.

“Well death is going to be there,” Bobby replied " and we might be able to stop him and get his ring before he kickstarts this storm.”

“Oh yeah,” Dean said, "You make it sound so easy."

You laughed when Sam slapped Dean.

“How do you know all this?" Sam asked.

"I had help," Bobby shrugged pouring him and you a drink a drink.

Just as you were about to take a sip, you groaned when you heard the accent and threw your head back in annoyance.

“Don't be so modest I barely helped at all,” Crowley smiled at everyone but winked at you. You shot him a dirty look which only caused him to chuckle.

He turned back to Bobby "Go on Bobby, tell everyone, there is no shame in it.”

Your heads all snapped to Bobby who didn't say a word.

“Bobby," Sam asked. "Tell us what?”

“World's gonna, end seems stupid to get precious over one stupid soul."

“You sold your soul?” Dean screamed.

"Not sold, just pawned, and I fully intend to give it back,” Crowley started.

“Well give it back,” you stood up coming toe to toe with the demon.

“I will," he smiled down at you.

“Now” you glowered at him.

As you both stood silently looking at each other you heard Sam ask ” Did you kiss him?”

Everyone turned to look at Bobby.

“Of course, he didn't " you spat "Right Bobby?”

“No!" Bobby exclaimed, but when you heard a cough beside you, you turned and saw Crowley holding a picture of the kiss.

“Why did you take a picture?” Bobby sighed not looking at anyone.

“Why did you use tongue?” Crowley smirked.

Everyone looked perturbed at Bobby but you broke the silence.

“Fuck this, give him his soul back, Now "You turned to face Crowley again.

“I'm sorry I can't” he apologised.

"Can't or won't?" you stepped closer pulling your blade out," you growled.

“I won't, it's insurance,” he shouted back at you.

“What are you talking about?” Dean asked pulling you to him and trying to get you away from Crowley.

“You all kill demons, but you won't kill me if I have his soul,” Crowley confirmed.

“You son of a bitch," you stepped around Dean bringing the tip of your blade to the demon's chin.

You saw the flash of anger in his eyes but kept your ground staring right back at him. Then he looked impressed and smiled at you.

“I have every intention of returning it kitten,” he smirked "Once this is all over, and I walk away, safely. do we all understand each other?"

“I will kill you someday demon," you hissed “Make no mistake about it."

“I look forward to it.” Crowley cooed before disappearing.

It really stings that Jensen literally had no one to back him up in the writer's room. He knew how harmful the ending they were pitched would be & he tried so hard to fight & he did fight so hard but when your co-lead of 15 years is against you with the writers, he could do literally nothing but take it or leave it. I feel like Dean was always more than a job to jensen but at some point sam became just a paycheck to his actor. & Sam got screwed over just as badly by the finale on so many levels too (I maintain he should've become the next gen of hunter's Bobby and Eileen should've become a lawyer and they should've run the bunker while raising kids).

But what really gets me is that during that same discussion with the writers, jensen still fought for Kaia, like we can imagine her & claire being together, being happy and it be canon compliant because of him. He couldn't save Dean then, but he was the reason Kaia was ultimately saved. (As far as we know, I sadly was not in the room where it happened but my god do I wish I was. Oh to have been a fly on the wall there or to have been there & invisible, able to get away with anything...) him & Robert Berens were the only people who went oh yes we have this indigenous female characters, made a pretty significant threat last season but we didn't address it again so let's address it this season (& bring back her original self who is also canonically wlw & allude to her & claire getting together). Because of him we can at least interpret that two canonically lgbtq characters got a happy ending in life and didn't get buried & forgotten like cas, charlie, max, charlie, apocalypse charlie, stevie, rowena (scene that confirmed she was bi got censored screw you see double ewe), Crowley, off the top of my head.

I really do feel for jensen. Like given past incidents, we should have known misha would be screwed over (it is sooo f-ed up is that misha getting screwed over by writers & the network is basically expected) but we never even imagined that they'd even try to screw jensen over as badly and as hard as they did screw him over. The show never deserved either of them & the show wouldn't have gotten as big as it did without them. No one could ever replicate what they brought.

At least Brianna who seems like good friends with jensen, responded with no comment when asked about her thoughts on the finale (which you wouldn't do if you had nothing but compliments on the ep), so he has at least one person in the cast on his side.

Yes. I can fully support you in your thought that Jensen felt closer to Dean than Jared felt to Sam and this was totally clear. Jensen said so much stuff about how much he loves Dean, that Dean is his best friend, that he will always carry him with himself, that he will always be very protective about Dean and so on. Also the Spotlight just moved from Dean and Sam to Dean and Cas over the years, people pointed out that Jareds acting was average, later regressive... Maybe he really didn't cared anymore when it came to an end since Walker is his "passion project that has his entire heart."

You are also right that it just hurts fucking much to see that Jared didn't backed him up. Who else would be in the room? Dabb of course, since he wrote 15x20. Singer also. And Dabb openly said that he thinks he made very clear that he dislikes Jensen. Jensen had disagreements with Singer before also. To me it feels like it was SPN vs Walker, and while Jensen chose SPN, Jared chose Walker. Jared even said "You can't make everyone happy" while knowing that this ending will only please W*ncesties and B*bros, and exactly those ran from SPN to Walker.

You're right, actually it's kinda ridiculous that Jared called the ending magical and beautiful fullcircle storytelling while his own character got screwed as well. It shows that he didn't even understood the development of his own character.

Yeah, Bobo spoke openly about how Jensen fought for Kaia. He wanted the story to be continued, he wanted her back.

Yeah, the whole thing about Misha and how he was treated from the network... I'll try not to use abusive language here. Truth is, Misha saved and carried Supernatural. When he entered the stage, he won our hearts and the spotlight moved from Dean and Sam to Dean and Cas. When Cas was killed, ratings dropped. I did an analysis some days ago about the ratings of every single episode that include Misha vs episodes without Misha. Result: Misha made every single season better. He even was in every single seasons finale (except season 15, they didn't needed him anymore then and just threw him away.) Before they couldn't afford to kill him without bringing him back, they couldn't afford not having him in the main story. Weird for a side char, huh? Yeah, the fandom just loves him, you dumb assholes. And actually it made sense when Chuck said that Cas was the only one who grew outside of gods control. The network couldn't control him.

You are right, I never thought that the network would screw Jensen that bad. Never ever. But the show was over, what do they have to loose? They have a new series to promote now, and Jensen isn't in it, so... There you have the decision. Sad to see that they go with the average actor who didn't cared about his own character or the show he's been on for 15 years anymore. He didn't even cared about the fandom. All about money, huh?

The Dangers Of A Demon Chapter 5

The engine of the Impala was the only thing that disturbed the silence between the Alpha and the Omega. Every now and then he was glance at her, but not once did he say a word to her. He would only turn his eyes back towards the road.

The Demon slicked a hand down his face while gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles turned white. He should be pulling over and driving a knife so far into her body over and over until all the blood seeped out. But now, all of a sudden he got a conscious. Or maybe it was the fact that he claimed her and now the Alpha in him won't let him kill her.

Katarina flinched and covered her ears at the impact of Dean's outburst. When he pushed her off his lap she yelped and crawled back towards the headboard of the bed.

"Get dressed." Dean snarled at her as he threw her clothes in her face, picking his own clothes up off the floor and doing the same.

Not needing to be told twice she dressed as quickly as she could. But in the process, she eyeballed the sharp object still plunged into the headboard of the bed. She sat on the bed in silence as she watched Dean pull on his jacket.

Dean grabbed his keys off the table "Get your ass in the car. We're going for a drive."

Dean drove for what seemed like hours to Katarina when really it was only for a few miles. When Dean pulled into the parking lot of the sheriff's office, it only confused her.

"I don't understand. Why are we here?"

He took in a deep breath before exhaling "I'm letting you go, Katarina."

That was the first time he had ever said her name. But still, she was confused "Why? You're supposed to kill me."

"I can't. I don't know why, but I just can't." Liar. He did know why, but he just didn't want to admit it "Before you go" he pulled out yet another knife "I need some of your hair."

"Why?"

"The people that ordered me to kill you, if they find out you're alive, they'll come looking for you. The only way they'll believe you're dead is with a few strands of your hair."

Hesitantly she took the knife from his hand and cut a few strands of her hair. If it was to make whoever it was to believe she's dead then so be it. She didn't want anyone coming after her and apparently neither did he.

He reached across her and opened the passenger door "Go. Your dad will be happy to see you, I'm sure."

Hand him the knife and the few strands of hair she climbed out of the Impala. Before shutting the door she looked at him while holding back tears "Thank you."

"Stay safe Katarina."

There was an enormous amount of questions that racked her brain. Why did he let her go? Why did he claim her if he's letting her go? Was he telling her the truth?

Those were questions that might not ever be answered.

After she watched him speed out of the parking lot she opened the door of the sheriff's office.

"Dad?" She called out.

It was only meer seconds before sheriff Morgan came around the corner along with a man she's never seen before. It was almost like her dad didn't believe she was standing there right in front of him.

"Katarina?" Sheriff Morgan whispered as he quickly walked towards his daughter and pulled her into a hug.

Pulling away from her dad she looked at the man standing a few feet away from them. Her eyes tinted silver-white. Apparently, that's something all Omega's did in the presence of an Alpha "Who are you?"

"I'm Sam. Dean's brother."

"Speaking of that monster, where is he?" Her dad snarled.

"I-its okay. Dean let me go."

Her dad and also Sam looked confused and it was no doubt they had questions for her. Questions she wasn't prepared to answer.

Four months later

Four months. Four months since Dean had let her go. Often she asked herself if it was wrong of her to miss him. Some would frown upon it, others not so much from the fact of the healed claim mark that was now just a scar on the side of her neck. Some days her hand would venture up to the mark and touch it. It was almost like a security blanket to her.

Even after Dean let her go, sheriff Morgan was determined to find Dean on his own. More than likely to make him pay for kidnapping his daughter to begin with and even more so after he found out Dean claimed his daughter and for another reason.

"Please dad, just let it go. You got me back. Isn't that enough?"

"Of course it is, Katarina. But he took you from me, held you, hostage, for a week, knotted and claimed you, and look what happened." He gestured towards her stomach.

Resting a hand on her belly she knew exactly what he was referring to. Yes, Dean had put a child in her and she knew deep down that it wasn't on purpose. Knotting and claiming her, yes. But getting her pregnant, no.

"Dean let me go. He didn't have to but he did and that was his choice." She argued back "Please, leave it be."

Sam kept in contact with her after he left Lebanon to continue the search for his brother. When Sam finally found him a month after and cured him of being a demon, she was the first person to know. Often Sam wondered about her and even more, since he got the news of her pregnancy, something Dean knew nothing about.

Once a week Sam called just to checked up on her. Whether it was to ask about how she was doing with her pregnancy or talk about college. Whatever the reason was, she was grateful for it.

But the news of her pregnancy was definitely a shock to herself, her dad, and to Sam.

"How far along are you?"

"Eight weeks."

"Are you gonna tell him?"

"Sam-"

"Katarina you have to tell him at some point. I can't be the one to tell him, it has to be you."

"What if he doesn't take the news as well as we're hoping? What if he doesn't want anything to do with it?"

"I know my brother, he wouldn't do that to you. But the only way to find out is to tell him."

"Okay, you're right. Just...give me time."

There were times where Dean wanted to pick up the phone and call her just so he could hear her voice. It's what he wanted, no it's what he needed. But of course, he couldn't bring himself to do it. The Alpha hated himself for what he did to all those other Omega's, but more specifically, he hated himself for what he did to her. If he hadn't been a demon, he wouldn't have done any of it and that was a fact. Every single memory from all of it, seered in his brain.

The demon practically threw the little plastic bag in Crowley's face once he walked into his office. He hoped like hell giving Crowley a few strands of the very much alive Omega's hair would be enough "proof".

"It's done then?" Crowley picked up the little plastic bag with the few strands of Katarina's hair.

"There's the proof."

"It took you long enough."

"I got the job done did I not!?" Dean snarled.

"As I've stated once before, Alphas don't kill their mates. But you did. I knew you'd get the job done. I was beginning to think you weren't going to kill her."

If only Crowley knew.

It was after Sam cured him when finally he admitted to himself as to why he let her go. Only part of him wished he hadn't. The effects of not having his Omega around were beginning to take a toll on him.

"Yeah, please, keep me updated."

Dean walked into the library of the bunker just in time to see Sam hang up the phone "How is she?"

Sam put on his best poker face "She's doing fine. It's been four months and still, nobody's came after her. I'd say what you did worked."

"Does she ask about me?"

"It's not my place to say." He sighed.

"I know I should be the one calling her. I mean I claimed her, Sam. But I can't bring myself to do it. What if I had killed her anyway?" Dean blinked to hold back the tears "I would never forgive myself."

"Yeah, I know. But you didn't kill her even as a demon then you did the right thing by letting her go." Sam sympathized for his brother "I'm sure she'd like to hear from you at least once. See you even. All you have to do is try. You might be surprised."

The last few words stuck out the most to Dean. Sam might as well have just given away the secret he's been keeping from his brother for four months.

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"If you ever see her again, you'll find out."

Sounds like someone who was in one dirty place trying to get his love out of there, working hard to find him, because he wanted to give him a better life, or get him home... And he failed...

Mmmm who could be? 🤔

Well, so, Dean was moved by just one desire in Purgatory, find Cas and together come back to home. But this plan he had, failed.

And because he couldn't handle the pain of it... His head invented the whole context in which Castiel didn't got out from there...

And not just that, he grew a huge guilt inside his heart, because that's the only way Dean Winchester knows how to handle things. He always blame himself ...

And because he misses Castiel so much, and he feels he failed him, when this song was playing on his car, he recalled Castiel, and the longing was huge, and there you have Cas walking by the side of the road. And Dean saw him, and he tried to go back, but Cas wasn't there anymore.

When he came back to the cabin, his brother noticed the puzzled face, and this is what he said to him...

DEAN stands in the middle of the room holding a six-pack and a paper bag.

SAM You look like you've s– well, I was gonna say, "You look like you've seen a ghost," but you'd probably be stoked. Uh, you okay?

Sam saw his brother struggling with something, he was odd... So he had to ask. But the king of avoidance just said I'M COOL.

Now... When they were on the motel room, and Sam was sleeping, Dean saw Cas through the window, remember that? And his face was... Ugh... Priceless. He stood up and went to the window, but Cas wasn't there anymore.

And then Sam woke up, and he saw something was going on with his brother... His brother who couldn't sleep...

SAM Dean? What's going on? Are you all right? [He throws back the covers and sits on the edge of the bed.]

DEAN

I don't know. I just saw something.

Dean is about to open to his brother, because now is the second time he saw Cas. And he knows it was him. So, he really doesn't know why he's seeing him everywhere. Is the power of his longing that drags Castiel who's too trying to materialize in front of him.

SAM Uh, you saw what? [He stands up and walks over to DEAN.]

DEAN Cas.

This time he says it. He says his name.

SAM Cas? Where?

DEAN: Right there. And – and – and earlier, on the road. I feel like I'm seeing him.

Dean is confessing this kind of ashamed, because he doesn't know how his brother would react to this. I mean, the man is seeing Cas everywhere... What is that? It sounds so romantic that it hurts... But Sam is empathic, and he senses his brother is feeling guilty...

SAM That's... not possible. I mean, you said it yourself. You made it out and he didn't, right?

Sam is trying to made Dean to get stick to reality. Cas isn't there. You are not seeing him, you think you are seeing him, but he isn't there.

DEAN I tried so damn hard to get us the hell out of there. [He turns away from the window and walks a few steps away.]

SAM I know you did.

Sam is seeing through his brother, he sees he's suffering and part of him is in awe with such pain. So he tries to make him feel better by saying Dean did his best to save Castiel.

DEAN (with his back to SAM] You know, I could have pulled him out. I just don't understand why he didn't try harder.

Now, again, the distortion in Dean's memories, the disguise he put over the real scene. Just because is too painful.

SAM: Dean. [He walks over to DEAN, who turns to face him.] You did everything you could.

DEAN: Yeah, but why do I feel like crap?

SAM: Survivor's guilt?

IDK if Sam is suspecting here, I think he does, because the way Dean is behaving, is not just the words he's saying. There's something else there. Dean misses Castiel horribly. So he came out with the survivor's guilt, jus because is the only thing he could say.

DEAN Hmm.

Dean knows that's not because he's feeling like crap. Because he already knows he is in love with Castiel, and he wanted to bring him back home, with him. Together. Because he prayed to him every night, and when he found him, he was happy. And he worked hard to bring him back. And he failed.

SAM If you let it, this is gonna keep messing with you. You got to walk past it.

Sam is trying to give one last advice. But isn't enough...

One side love?

We all recall the scene in the bathroom, when Castiel appears. Remember this is a parallel with Bobby appearing beging Dean in the bath, because we need to make the big difference here between FAMILY LOVE and ROMANTIC LOVE.

After this we had an interrogation from Dean, who's doubting about the cause of Cas being there. Because what he remembers of that, is Castiel let him go, falling down the hill, and being weak. So Cas was weak and he couldn't make it. How he get out from Purgatory then? So he's mad. Pretty mad, he couldn't get him out, so who could?

CASTIEL Oh. I'm dirty.

DEAN: Yeah, well, Purgatory will do that to you.

He's mad, and mostly because he recalls too Cas putting a hand in his shoulder and saying those words... Thank you for everything... Dean is feeling maybe Cas didn't trust he could put him out of Purgatory... All those ideas are running his head. And he's mad.

But then, we had this jewel...

The classic boner scene, showing us Sam reaction in contraposition with Dean's. Is clear here. Dean is seeing Cas, shaved, clean and with his usual wardrobe. The Mighty Hot Sexy Angel he knew. And his reaction is awkward, he, acknowledging his true feelings now, can't stop feeling like this. Can't stop his heart anymore. Because he loves him. It will be worst now, and it will be awkward now being by his side. Because he knows he is in love with Castiel. So this reaction is showing us something had changed in Dean about Cas.

And remember Benny cleaning himself and getting out form the bath... And Dean's reaction to that? Well... Difference between FRIENDSHIP reaction, and ROMANTIC reaction. Is just perfect!

And Sam is there again registering the whole thing. Sammy knows is born slowly...

Another scene that show us Dean is acting weird because he know he loves Cas, is one of my favorites Destiel stares.

Look at this... Is amazing, because CAS is just talking about the case and the Prophets and wherever, and Dean first felt surprised because CAS is standing there close, then he just stared at him with those eyes people have when they're looking at their crushes. That heart eyes glare. Cas watches him, and then he comes back to the conversation. And Dean making the check out. Eyes-Lips-Neck. And whoa... The face after this... Is a face of realization... I'M SCREWED, I'M SO IN LOVE WITH HIM.

And one more thing about this, the motel room is Destiel color coded. Watch the walls... Green and blue flowers...

That, my friends, is the consequence of acknowledging he loves Castiel not as a bro, or as a best friend. But as a male angel.

Then... In the car, Dean recalls his fake memory about Purgatory...

He needs to clarify with CAS, so... We had this scene...

DEAN Cas, can I talk to you outside?

DEAN and CASTIEL get out of the IMPALA.

CASTIEL What?

DEAN Exactly. What? What the hell happened? Back there. Purgatory. I told you I would get you out. We were there! It was like you just gave up. It's like you didn't believe we could do it. I mean, you kept saying that you didn't think it would work. 

This is what made Dean's heart aches... Think about Castiel not trusting him. That's the daga in his heart... That's what his brain came out to, this is painful but is better than truth for him. And this is the foreshadow for the crypt scene. Dean disguising his truly feeling with words like TRUST he DOESN'T TRUST ME even than HE DOESN'T LOVE ME LIKE I DO. Is better talk about TRUST BETWEEN FRIENDS. And not LOVE. So... The trust is a replacement for being in love.

And he points there I DID EVERYTHING TO GET YOU OUT OF THERE. And he did.

I DID NOT LEAVE YOU!

His heart is a mess and his brain is giving him this ideas. Is giving him GUILT because that's what Dean Winchesters can manage. GUILT. And not a brokenheart. Not the idea of being rejected. Of being in one sided love.

We had the Moose Interruptus aaaand let's go to the second talk...

I didn't want to save everyone, I wanted to save you.

When they were out of Crowley's dominium, they had this chat outside, because CAS was feeling weak, and he didn't listen Dean's warnings.

DEAN That was a bonehead move back there. You could have gotten yourself killed. Why didn't you wait for me?

Again... The trust disguising Dean's true fears to loosing Cas.

CASTIEL Well, I didn't get killed. And it worked.

Cas is used to work alone. He's a warrior. So Dean being worried about that, he can't understand the depth of it.

DEAN And if it didn't?

CASTIEL It would have been my problem.

Cas knows Dean is feeling some kind of guilt, so he tries to bring back that matter. Because he doesn't know Dean is in love with him, so the whole situation needs to be clarify. Dying or not is my problem. Getting out fr Purgatory not not is my problem too.

DEAN Well, that's not the way I see it.

Okay... Now the card is on the table, and Cas picks it.

CASTIEL Hey, everything isn't your responsibility. Getting me out of Purgatory wasn't your responsibility.

Period. This is it. He wants Dean to figure the point out. Because he doesn't understand, if they were there, why is Dean being like this?

DEAN You didn't get out. So whose fault was it?

When Castiel heard these words he gets it. There's something wrong with Dean. He's recalling things wrong. Because he's throwing the whole bag on his shoulders... And that's not what happened. Dean has not fault about it.

CASTIEL It's not about fault. It's about will. Dean, do you really not remember?

Cas understands now, Dean disguised the memory of it.

DEAN [laughs shortly] I lived it, Cas. Okay, I know what happened.

CASTIEL No. No, you think you know. You remembered it the way you needed to.

Cas is the best psychologist ever. You invented a memory to cover the truth, because the truth is more painful.

The guilt again, he can't handle fail Cas. He just can't. He's mad at himself. But Cas will show him the true memory.

And is worts... Painful and worst...

CASTIEL See, it wasn't that I was weak. I was stronger than you. I pulled away. Nothing you could have done would have saved me, because I didn't want to be saved.

Ugh! He pulled away, rejection. He didn't want to be saved. Why? He didn't want to come back with him? With Dean? Together?? He doesn't love him the way Dean does... Is a one sided love. Cas wanted to stay in Purgatory, and he didn't want to come back with him. The truth is worst than his fake memories...

And the brokenheart is showing all over his face. It seems he is about to cry.

DEAN: What the hell are you talking about?

CASTIEL It's where I belonged. I need to do penintence, I needed to be out. And I saw that clearly when I was there. (Again... The Purity of Purgatory, Cas knew what he really wanted, like Dean knew what he really wanted. He wanted his angel) I... I planned to stay all along. I just didn't know how to tell you. You can't save everyone, my friend... though, you try.

And Cas thinks that's the pain in Dean's heart. Because he wants to save everyone. To save the world. But not now. Not back then in Purgatory. In Purgatory Dean wanted to save Castiel. Because he loves him.

And Cas knew Dean wouldn't abandon him, so he just made the way to that portal, and when he saw Dean was safe, that he will come back, he let that left him go. That's loyalty.

And Dean's heartbroken face is too much... Is really so sad. One sided love... Ugh...

To Conclude:

Dean saw Cas everywhere because he was longing so hard for him, that Cas was trying to reach him.

Cas and Sam thought Dean's pain was because the guilt he felt because he couldn't save Cas, but he disguised a more profound pain (being rejected for Castiel, one sided love) with a new less painful memory and guilt.

In this episode we had two boner scenes, that showed us a change of behavior from Dean. Dean knowing he's in love with Cas is feeling flustered and anxious. Like a teenager with his crush.

I actually feel like Crowley was in love with dean. When Dean goes back to Cas and Sammy after no longer being a demon, he begins acting as though he just went through a break up.

We have it heavily implied that both of them engaged in intercourse with the triplets Cowley mentions. And it is also implied that those triplets were male, when a set of MALE triplets walk into the bar during this

Which incidently for me, puts Dean's bisexuality as canon. They flat out mentioned sex with the triplets. It's not a coincidence that they show male triplets during that. The writers intentionally did this. They meant to imply this.

Look at how many times he could have killed Dean, and he didnt. Look at how hurt he was when he found out dean lied to him about being on Cains list. How hurt he was when Dean left him. He knew of crowley affection and used it (although sparingly) to his advantage sometimes. But for Dean, it wasnt love on his part. I don't doubt there was some warmth for crowley, he may have begun to consider him a friend and not just an ally or another set of powers he needs when times got rough. But he was never "in love" with Crowley.

I would also like to mention that before Dean succumbed to the mark, Rowena was bitchin and pushing for Crowley to get rid Dean. To which Crowley refused. She viewed Dean as the source of Crowley humanity AKA his weakness. Which takes me back to Uriels line to Dean "he has this weakness he. He likes you".

Dean has this endearing habit of inspiring loyalty and bringing out the humanity in others. We can go so far as to say for them,Dean is the very representation of humanity. He IS humanity. Taking me back to metatrons "hes in love with humanity"

So while though admittedly, a bit of stretch, but If those lines were used to indicate Cas feelings for Dean. why not for Crowley? He has inspired the very same changes and feelings in Crowley that we all acknowledge he has in Cas. Again I know those lines were for us to understand Cas' love for our green eyed hunter. However, we do have to at least acknowledge that the changes and emotions that metatron and uriel have noticed in Cas can be found in Crowley as well. All of those changes and emotions brought about because of one man...Dean.

Also let me point out the fact that when Rowena couldnt succeed in convincing Crowley to kill Dean. She tries to do it herself. She views Dean as the reasons for crowleys trouble. Not Cas who aids Dean in thwarting Crowley. Not Sammy, who technically started this whole thing when he used his blood and it began to "humanize" Crowley, but Dean. Angels and demons, these are beings who are not known to have emotions or be easily changed. So before anyone goes spouting how those lines are sacred to destiel. Yes, I know, I'm just using it to parallel. Destiel is and will always be my OTP. I will never pair Dean and Cas with anyone but each other. But I just wanted to reiterate those lines fit Crowley and how demons have also noticed he has changed.

Lets go back to Rowena. We have a case mother knows best. A mother knows her child. She didn't make it as long as she has my being stupid and unobservant. She knew that getting rid of Dean would bring back the old, unfeeling Crowley. When she couldn't kill Dean, she faked that she was brutally beaten up by him. Hoping a sons love for his mother would overcome any feelings he has for Dean. And as we know, it did not.

Let's talk about Crowleys actions when it comes to Dean.

Sam was possessed.... he didnt care about Sam. He did that because dean needed him to

Same when Cas was possessed by Lucifer. He doesnt care for cas in the least. He went into Cas mind to get him to expell Lucifer and in the process, takes a pretty decent beating from him. Again, he did that because Dean needed him to. Knowing full well Lucifer is more than capable of killing him.

Amara: he could have died during that but yet he did it. Why? Because Dean needed him to.

We have when Cas gets hurt by the spear. He had nothing to gain by letting Cas live. But he knows how in love dean is with Cas. He's made jokes about it. He knows how much it would hurt Dean to lose Cas. If you love someone you're going to do anything in your power to save them any kind of pain if you can. Even at your expense. So he broke the spear. The old adage “If you love something set it free. If it comes back it’s yours. If not, it was never meant to be.”

I think when he saw Deans reaction to Cas being injured by the spear, and heard Cas confession of love...he knew he didnt hava a chance. So he chose Dean's happiness above his own.

I actually think he really didnt fall in love with Dean until Sammy injected Crowley with blood, making him more human like. Which is kind of the same with Cas. It was Cas being more human that made him realize he was in love with Dean. So I'm really digging the parallel of both being more human like and falling for Dean.

He died saving Dean. You could say to save Dean AND Sam. But who was getting the ever loving shit beat out of them? Dean!! Dean was being beaten and the only thing that could stop Lucifer was a spell that requires a sacrifice. Crowley literally sacrificed himself for love.

Tell me the Truth

Hello my dear! How have you been? I'm here with another volume from this Chronicles.

This time I want to talk about the truth as a recurrent topic in the first half of this season.

I'm gonna mix some bi Dean concept too, this will be mostly a Dean centric meta.

O want to give thanks to my friend @agusvedder , she couldn't make me the gifs for this meta but we discussed a lot about this topic. Thank you girl!

Let's start...

Saying goodbye to Lisa and Ben

Ok, I will collect here an amount of observations I made in several chapters in which we can see Dean breaking up with Lisa and Ben as his family.

In episode 6x06 Live Free or Twihard , calling back to 6x02, we had Dean feeling himself a monster and becoming one.

At the beginning of the episode, the Winchester brothers went to investigate to a house, a girl's room, vampires fan. Dean found a book and this is what he reads...

DEAN. Look at this. He's WATCHING her sleep. How is that not rape-y?

This is very significant because when Dean is turning into a vampire, he decided to go visit Lisa and Ben to say goodbye... So when he arrives, he just stays there by Lisa's bed watching her sleep. As a real monster. After this we all recall he pushed Ben violently and ran away. This was the beginning of the end.

In episode 6x06 "You can't handle the truth" written by Sera Gamble, even when it was a very Wincest episode, it had a very interesting topic about ASKING THE TRUTH YOU CAN'T EFFORT.

And related with Lisa here, he called her, and because he had asked for the truth, he receives the truth from her. A very hard one. She snapped at him this...

LISA: You've got so much buried in there, and you push it down, and you push it down. Do you honestly think that you can go through life like that and not freak out? Just, what, drink half a fifth a night and you're good?

DEAN: You knew what you signed up for.

Dean is excusing himself with her, she knew, he's like this. He won't change. Hunting is his life.

LISA: Yeah. But I didn't expect Sam to come back. And I'm glad he's okay. I am. But the minute he walked through that door, I knew. It was over. You two have the most unhealthy, tangled-up, crazy thing I've ever seen. And as long as he's in your life, you're never gonna be happy.That came out so much harsher than I meant.

Here, we have the pathologic codependency between them, but as it was written, and here's my opinion, is screaming Wincest all over, we know Sera was a fervent fan of the boys, and this doesn't surprises me. Lisa is being very hard and honest with Dean. Things are not Al right between them.

DEAN: It's not your fault.

LISA: I'm not saying don't be close to Sam. I'm close to my sister. But if she got killed, I wouldn't bring her back from the dead!

DEAN: Okay, Lis... I'm not gonna lie. Okay, me and Sam, we... we've got issues. No doubt. But you and Ben --

Here is Dean saying "Everything you had just said is truth", so more Wincest for the bag.

LISA: Me and Ben can't be in this with you. I'm sorry.

And this was the end for sure.

In this same episode, we had this scene...

The woman is dressed in lavanda color, si, basically, is a Lisa's mirror here,asking for a lot of attention and Dean is giving her that not very hopeful answer... So yeah, Dean had decided which life he wants for him. Maybe, and as I said before, he doesn't feel he deserves a good life, or maybe because he feels like a dangerous monster that can destroy good things.

Now... Let's jump to 6x07 "Family Matters"...

There's a singular quote by the Alpha Vampire:

DEAN: I didn't realize we were on a first-name basis.

ALPHA VAMPIRE: Of course we are. After all, you were my child... for a time. Dean, tell me... did you enjoy it?

Ok, I know this is a creepy way to see it, but... Immediately after episode 6x06 we had this. And beacuse Dean is in the break up process with Lisa and Ben, this could be taken as a Dean/Ben mirror... Ben was the "monster's son" for a while, or at least that way is how Dean see it inside of him. So, symbolically, we are talking about that here.

Now... Episode 6x08 "All dogs go to Heaven" a very blantant Dean mirror with the dog-man here... First of all... Remember the monster watching in silence while the woman sleeps?? We have the same again here... The dog-man (skinwalker) his name was Lucky.

There was interesting words exchanging between Dean and Lucky, and please pay attention to Dean's speech...

DEAN: Hang on, Sam. [to LUCKY (MAN)] Listen, you don't have to tell me why you're with the family. I get it.

LUCKY (MAN): Oh, you do, do you?

DEAN: You killed every threat that came near them. You care about them, in your own whack-a-doodle kind of way. It's obvious. What I want to know is, who was that guy you were kibitzing with? He a skinwalker, too?

So... Isn't it Dean talking to himself? Do he feel like a abandoned and hurted dog that needed a refuge? A family? Now... Check this other quote...

DEAN: What are you gonna do to that family, really? You gonna put your jaws around that little boy's throat? Clamp down, listen to him cry for his mom? 'Cause I'm gonna guess that these are the only people who in your pathetic life have ever showed you any kindness. So it's either that... or you can help us stop it.

Again, the scene of Dean pushing Ben against the wall when he was about to transform into a vampire (a monster) and then... Again talking to himself. Is so blantant that my heart broke instantly...

After this, Dean decided not to shoot him bc he knew that dog was him... But things didn't end well for Lucky...

When he tries to come back to Mandy and her son, this is what happened...

MANDY: Get away from this house, you psycho. And if you ever, ever come near me or my son again, so help me...

LUCKY (MAN): I know I probably deserve...

MANDY closes and locks the door.

This is the end for the monster that wanted to have a family, the difference here is... Dean really wanted to have this kind of life?

And the answer we already know...

Dean is puting salt on the windows while he's saying he's out... Tell the truth Dean.

And in 6x13 "Unforgettable" Dean said another thing to his brother (to himself) to put a final period here...

DEAN: Sam, y-y-you got to understand that all that crap last year -- all of it -- none of it was you.

Ok Dean, we get it. This last year trying to be a man with a normal life and family, it wasn't you. It was a lie.

Sam's lies and foreshadowing Castiel's secrets

Before to continuó with this meta... I promised you some bi-Dean scene... Here you have.

Look how Dean checks out the police man and he even greeted him that way. As we know... Dean likes uniforms... 😉 (This gif was made by my gorgeous friend Agus!)

Ok... Let's start with the brothers here...

We all recall that scene when Sam just watched as Dean was turned into a vampire. Ok... So Dean saw it too. And that was one of his biggest alarms about his brother. This happened in episode 6x05.

In episode 6x06, another interesting parallel with the Winchesters brother and Sam's lies.

SAM: You know what a "tell" is?

OLIVIA: Excuse me?

SAM: It's a poker term... for when you're bluffing. Like what you just did with your hair.

OLIVIA: What are you trying to say?

SAM: You're lying.

DEAN is surprised at the force of SAM's inquiry.

OLIVIA: What?!

SAM: Tell us what you did to your sister.

Ok big parallel each time Dean wanted to obtain the truth about what happened with the vampire and why he didn't take care of him.

So after this we had the big scene with VERITAS, and very very WINCEST thing right here...

Let's see continue now with CAS.

In this same episode we had another confession that could be analyze as a parallel and foreshadow of Castiel and his secrets.

SAM: So, you had some idea Corey might have taken her own life?

ROOMMATE: Well... she had been going through a bit of a hard time lately... at school. And then, um, her cat, Mittens, had just ran away. But, really, it was her boyfriend. She was sure that he was cheating on her. But he was just very good at covering his tracks. Which, of course, made her completely obsessed with --

Ok we are here talking about Castiel... The "boyfriend" term will be use by Balthazar twice, one with Dean and the other with Sam, referencing to Castiel. Castiel is the boyfriend, and he is cheating on Dean and Sam.

Also, making Balthazar calling Castiel as the Winchesters's boyfriend, equally... Another SERA GAMBLE tool, "look Cas isn't Dean's boyfriend, is Sammy's boyfriend too, so... Is irrelevant."

Episode 6x07 we had the boys discovering SAMUEL was working for Crowley, so the entire episode is a big foreshadow of what was about to happen when Dean, Sam and Bobby discover Castiel's deal with the King of Hell. And is also the episode in which the idea about Purgatory and the power of souls is presented.

And ironically, we'll have Dean and Sam literally working for Crowley too, so ... A little hole in the narrative here... But hey... We don't talk about this Season, don't we?

To conclude

Dean asked for the truth and he had it with his brother and he will have it with Castiel, the problem is... Is he ready to handle it?

The first half of the season was a foreshadow for Castiel's secret and we could see in many episodes how the writers showed us what Dean felt by leaving Ben and Lisa and how he will have to handle with a big betrayal.

In Sera Gamble era we had a lot of references to Wincest and holes in the narrative, that we will see more often in the incoming episodes.
