#don't belittle someone else's trauma by saying something is just fiction and that it doesn't hurt anyone

The thing with the Alice x Bumby ship and people who support it not only don't understand the ramifications of what Bumby did to Alice and that it's pretty obvious he was continuing with his obsession with Lizzie.
Alice looks very much like her older sister and shares personality traits with Lizzie. So Alice would have ended up the same as Lizzie, assaulted and murdered. Because in terms of the type of serial offender Bumby is, the likelihood of him repeating the same crime was extremely high.
But also they don't understand that Bumby was not only targeting Alice but children, something that you can see in actual, real-life serial offenders like the Golden State Killer, Ted Bundy, or even Richard Ramirez. These were sexual sadists, Bumby is also a sexual sadist. Not to mention, Bundy worked in a suicide prevention call center so I don't know how you cannot draw the comparison.
So, I have had the term "anti" thrown at me, and normally, genuinely, I'm of the mind "I don't like this ship, so I'm not going to read it" because policing people over fictional ships is a waste of time. And I'll be the first to admit I especially hate this ship because I HAD several Bumbys in my life. I was sexually abused as a little girl, so I especially hate this character. And we do have several CSA survivors in fandom, they have had the same feelings. If you're writing a ship that mirrors our trauma, yeah, it's gonna piss people off. But I'm not gonna be mad enough to throw out death threats.
However.
And this is a big HOWEVER.
Largely, the biggest reason as to why I don't like it because anyone who dabbles in this ship cannot manage to keep it IC (in character). They fundamentally don't understand Alice's characterization:
1. Alice is an extremely guarded individual, literally anyone around her treats her like a burden, object, or belittle her sense of being.
2. It's highly unlikely Alice is going to romantically gush over someone, much less someone she put into a position of a mentor, so the swooning doesn't make any sense to me. If you're writing Alice in a romantic relationship, you have to keep in mind that it probably took a WHILE. When I write Alice in romantic relationships, it's a slow burn build up.
3. She likely is very reluctant to share the burden of her mental illness (unless slow burn, see above), so, again, Alice is not going to be the how to open up to people so easily.
4. Alice is extremely independent, most times. You can see she'd rather do it herself, without help unless it's a necessity, and she puts more trust in herself than in people. So, it wouldn't make sense for Alice to open up to Bumby, a doctor, outside of a patient.
And like. These shippers tend to "woobify" Bumby. He's not gonna be chivalrous.
1.He's a sociopath, so his empathy is non-existent. He didn't see Lizzie as a person, he saw her as an object he was entitled to.
2. He showed little regard to Mr. Liddell, his superior, someone he kept going to see, as his mentor. He exploited that dynamic only on the account of Lizzie.
3. The man has a superiority complex, so he won't see anyone as his equal. His ego was too big and he was so full of himself and he underestimated Alice (like everyone else) and doesn't care for her, at all.
So, every time I see this ship pop up, these characters are so woefully OOC (out of character) and that shows me you didn't understand the source material.
If you're into a dark ship, that's fine, but you're essentially re-writing characters so far from the original source material that they may as well be your own characters. You can find a dark ship with Alice, but pick someone better than Bumby. Like, guys, Bumby would have done the same thing he did to Lizzie to Alice and Alice found out at the last minute before he had the chance.
Just saying as an Alice RPer.

Controversial take: I don't think Snape's and Harry's childhood can compared. It's something that I have seen multiple people do and it's something that just doesn't work! It isn't fair for either of them.
Where both abused by their homes? Yes but that's pretty much where that comparison stops. Where Snape is poor Harry is rich, where Snape is not good looking unconventional attractive Harry is just plain "attractive" or average, where Harry received support Snape received further abuse and humiliation, and the list is going on! Of course there are similarities between the two, both played parts in the story that, I think, neither really wanted, the home life, Snape is brilliant... Harry has his moments!
And this isn't to say that either experience in home life is worst or better their are both equally shitty. We shouldn't play who-has-it-worst-Uno, but we equally shouldn't compare their experience, because through all of his tribulations in life Harry still had his friends to count on, Snape didn't.
I don’t either. Trauma shouldn’t be compared, and you shouldn’t pit how they coped against each other with the same ol’ “who doesn’t show any symptoms of abuse handled it better” and then disregard and belittle the other person’s trauma just because it wasn’t as bad. Harry’s trauma might be worse than Sev’s, Sev’s trauma might be worse than Harry’s, but at the end of the day, both of them went through awful shit, and said awful shit changed them both as people. Their traumas are both valid; someone who drowns in 8 feet of water is just as dead as someone who drowned in 20 feet of water. 🤷‍♀️
And besides, the difference between the two of them is that Severus didn’t have support systems. Harry had Ron and Hermione, the Weasleys, Dumbledore (eh), and everyone else to count on (though some people did turn their backs on him at the worst time soo 😬). Severus did not. What about Lily? Well, she ended their friendship at the worst time, she was the last tiny ray of light left in his life. And boom, it was over like that. SWM practically soiled into his path into the dark side, making it almost completely unavoidable.
[I think the werewolf prank is what genuinely broke Severus—not only did it prove the leader of the Order (Dumbledore) didn’t give a flying fuck about his well-being, but it also showed that his bullies were actually capable of murder—but losing Lily was the final straw.]
You’re totally right, anon, it’s just so annoying seeing people try to compare abuse victims’ trauma based on how much it affected them and actually believe they’re making a reasonable argument. If this is how these people treat fictional victims of abuse, then I really, really do not want to know how they treat real people.

I'm A Little Annoyed (TW For Childhood Sexual Abuse)...
I went to the anti kaeluc tag because I was just looking for some wholesome brotherly posts and was disappointed (and maybe a little angry) that over half the posts were still people defending kaeluc and ranting about antis.
Why do you guys always b**** about antis when you guys make up most of the anti kaeluc tag?
I will personally say that I have suffered sexual abuse by the hands of both my blood family and one person who I considered a sibling.
You have no idea how much it bothers people who have experienced it or are possibly still experiencing it to see ships like this in the fandoms of their favorite games/movies/books.
What about the sick b******s who use ships like this to justify what they do in real life, show these ships to their young impressionable victims to make them think that what they're about to do to them is okay because so many people online say it's okay?
That's what one of my assaulters did to me.
I'm also a prime example that what you read or see around you can affect how you think and what you do. Growing up with all that crap going on around me actually made me become hypersexual and have a very unhealthy relationship with sex to the point of deciding that I'm never getting into a relationship and I'm never sleeping with anyone.
Anime, manga, books, and video games are supposed to be my escape from the real world. Why is it okay to say it's just fiction in the face of someone who experienced it in real life? Why should they be okay with you romanticizing their trauma and making it easier for future IRL victims to be a thing?
You can try to say that the person shouldn't do that and rag on them as much as possible to try and redeem yourself, but you're the one making it easier for them by shipping something unhealthy. It might not necessarily be your fault - since the person decided to do those things on their own - but you can't deny that you're making it a hell of a lot easier for them with the kind of content you put out.
Diluc and Kaeya grew up together and saw each other as brothers and likely still do, they're just too emotionally constipated to apologize to each other even though the game does point out that they still care about each other.
If someone goes from seeing someone as a sibling to wanting to sleep with them, something's wrong (especially if they still see them as a sibling like some of you kaeluc shippers seem to love writing).
The game has only put platonic relationships on the front so far (with the only romantic relationships being between NPC's) and seems to be focusing on a sibling dynamic.
With someone who has a complicated background and feelings around romantic/sexual relationships in the first place, it seems like the perfect game for me.
But now I have a complicated relationship with the fandom.

Sansa stans & Misogyny: What Delusional looks like.
Tumblr media
What I did is turn the mirror on the people that do exactly what you spent 50,000 words trying to describe. You know these people are attacking another canonically beautiful character as something she's not for the same reasons you listed in your loooong post. Highlighting this point has triggered you (because you see the truth in it lol) and now you're visibly raging. Instead of acknowledging the misogyny of these extremely delusional Sansa stans, lets see how you makes excuses for them.
Shall we.
Tumblr media
"OUTCAST beauty"? I'm laughing. They don't call it that Miss White-wash. They say she is UGLY. Do you agree? If not, say so and stop excusing these disingenuous fools. They're ugly in real life, that's unfortunate, but completely misplaced because Arya does not have to fulfil their ugly-quota in order for her to be relatable to them. And then for these same self-proclaimed ugly people to go back to stanning Sansa and championing her misogynistic beauty standard? What. Stanning a character who belittled and bullied someone else for their looks... while also claiming to feel ugly in real life? The delusion. The hypocrisy. The double standards. How pathetic.
Arya's trauma was completely caused from external factors: Sexist Westerosi standards of beauty that were all constructed by misogynistic men & women who willingly and happily conform to it. Oh and also her bullies, primarily Sansa & Jeyne. Arya was never ugly. That's the point. The toxic women in her early life perpetuated this lie and her trauma because they were too misogynistic to appreciate Arya beyond her appearance. This. Is. Canon. Fact.
Tumblr media
Who denied she didn't experience trauma from not fitting in? She was bullied for it. Again, more canon facts. The problem is certain Sansa fans are too threatened by the fact that Arya is not ugly. That simple idea causes these weird folks to lash out, accuse people of horrible things...etc They just rage over this extraordinary concept that can't possibly be true. It's sad really.
Lyanns is described as beautiful by Ned, Cersei continues to hold a deep rooted jealousy over Lyanna because of how Robert is so completely obsessed even after 15 years of marriage. Cersei IS that accepted beauty standard and yet Robert holds Lyanna’s beauty above her. Rhaegar crowned Lyanna the Queen of Love and Beauty after seeing her once. Margaery is desperate to be described as looking like Lyanna. Arya confirms that everyone she knows in Winterfell describes Lyanna as beautiful.
But you're going to take the word of a damn Lannister describing Lyanna as a "wild beauty" as something accurate and not at all... bias? Typical Sansa stan.
I am adding to Arya's characterization and keeping it 100% accurate. Does that annoy you? Trick question. We know it does!
Tumblr media
Responding to your original rage post is suddenly offensive to you? You brought up beauty standards and how mad you are that people detract from 11 year old Sansa. Doesn't it make you feel silly defending such a petty little thing about a fictional teen girl? It's NOT the characters at war honey. It's the delusional stans, I pointed out, who create fake narratives to justify their own misogyny.
