- Ashton was born to two parents who’d been unable to take care of him for reasons that his grandparents would never relate to him, even to this day. He and his two other siblings (brother and sister) have been living with them since. Ashton refers to both of them as if they are his actual parents. - Ashton is the oldest of his 3 siblings. Both are twin girls who were born 3 years after him. They’ve all been with their grandparents since birth. - Ashton’s grandparents were retired college science professors and gigantic nerds who exposed Ashton and his siblings to the STEM world as such a young age. - As a child, Ashton was always entering different competitions that put his intelligence to the test. He’s been winning first place trophies and medals ranging from his kindergarten plant project to competitions in college utilizing robots to accomplish whatever the competition requires. He’s also been attending many comic cons at younger ages, and will happily show individuals his cosplay pictures over the years. - Always wants to be the smartest person in the room, he has since he was younger. He and his siblings (all who are in the STEM fields) have a big rivalry when it comes to competing against one another as they were in the same grades. Ashton’s sisters were able to skip to his current grade in High School. All of them have very similar personalities (when they are together its very noticeable). - He breezed through high school, even while taking college credit courses and being active in the chemistry and engineering clubs. Never cared for popularity in high school, and it never bothered him that he didn’t attend several big events ( mostly because he was usually not asked). Rarely did he attend parties, and if hes not working outside of his apartment he is usually spending his nights playing video games or doing whatever work he needs for school. - Got a full academic scholarship, and even got his grad school paid for if he graduates with a certain GPA (which is what hes on track to do). Had the option to graduate early but his grandma is telling him he needs to have an actual college experience rather than choosing the path he’s on.

RANDOM POINTS OF INFO: - Makes the bulk of his money tutoring. He also is a twitch streamer that doesn’t make a TON of money - but it pays for his hulu, spotify, and netflix. Has never cared to do it full-time because he just enjoys the game. - He’s gay, and has known since middle school. Though doesn’t know how to act when hes being flirted with and is awful at initiating any kind of feelings because he gets nervous. His family grew up telling him to use logic rather than emotion - which has bled into the person that he is today. He struggles with relationships because of his way of sharing how he feels ( ex: he may shower someone with gifts but struggle at knowing the line between dating and being in a relationship.) He was abandoned by his parents and still has trauma from that, as his grandparents were pretty basic in their relationship. - Loves video games, comic books, history, d&d and doesn’t care to share with others. - Is the kind of guy that will know random facts such as different marvel / dc / other comics debuting auditions to knowing about different worldly issues that took place in the 1960s. - His dream job is working as a mechanical engineer in the medical field to build better technology to assist the elderly population. His grandparents are declining slowly in health, along with many of their friends he considers family so they have always been his inspiration. - Ashton is a nerd because of his own interests and his intelligence that expands across different topics and subjects. Not only is he big into academics, he’s also knowledgeable about a variety of things that many people wouldn’t know. He’s the type of person to provide facts and information, no matter how big or small they’ve seen. Ashton approaches encounters in his daily life from a logic stand-point rather than letting his emotions or the emotions of others impede what he believes in the best end-goal. He’s not only a nerd academically, but is the type of guy who is big into ‘nerd culture’ (as his siblings call it). Ashton is big into video games, sci-fi, history, etc. Ashton is also very knowledgeable of world-events, as again, he continues to expand his own knowledge about the world around him. He also spends a lot of his time researching whatever may pop into his mind, as hates not knowing information he finds relevant because it really gets under his skin. Ashton is practically a human encyclopedia who values academics and logistics the same way an athlete values sports and their own athletic prowess. When people think of nerds, they imagine the kid with glasses in the back of the room that keeps to themselves and allows people to take advantage of them - which Ashton is the complete opposite. He’s proud of the ‘nerd’ label and the value that comes from people seeing you at the top of the intelligence totem pole.

A/N: Thanks again for your positive feedback on this mini-series! Please keep those canon questions coming as you guys know I loooove answering them to help build the canon! This one is a short one but it will be made up for by the last two chapters.

CONTENT WARNING: parents with disease/sickness (Parkinson’s); swearing; sex; alcohol use; lots of emotions.

Brock and Grace were having fun. Actual, genuine, real fun. Whenever they were together, they were smiling and laughing and kissing and having a good time. They’d go out to eat at Vancouver’s best restaurants. They’d take walks in parks or along the seawall. They’d get coffee at cute little cafés and munch on bespoke cookies or donuts that would make Brock complain about extra hours in the gym. They’d invite Elias and Svea with them and it would be great, because they were great, and they’d all just be constantly laughing. Grace and Svea got closer – much closer. Elias and Brock were tearing it up for the Canucks. Grace and Svea would go to bars for a glass of wine before going to games together. They’d cheer and clap and sing along with all the songs being blasted throughout the arena.

Fun. Life was fun.

“How do I bite it?!” Brock was incredulous at the size of the cupcake Grace got him. It was bigger than his jaw could open. Elias and Svea were already ready with their damn phones to film him. “I can’t…” he tried to bring it up to his mouth.

“Just put the whole thing in your mouth!” Grace exclaimed.

“That’s what she said,” Elias mumbled, only to garner a disapproving mother look from Brock and a slap on the arm from Svea. “What! Isn’t that the joke?!”

“Don’t be crass,” Svea chastised before focusing her attention back on Brock. “Just bite the thing, Brock. Just…just stuff it in there,” he pretended to do the motion herself.

“Again, that’s what she said.”

Grace hit Elias too this time.

“You can get us reservations to Hawksworth?” Svea asked in shock.

Grace nodded casually, like it was the easiest thing in the world to get a reservation at Vancouver’s best and most exclusive restaurant. “The Gillespie’s own the Rosewood Hotel Georgia.”

“You do?”

Grace nodded again before sucking back on an oyster. “When do you want to eat there?”

“Oh, I – I don’t know. Can I get back to you?”

“Of course! Just let me know.”

“Wow Grace,” Svea said. “You really do have the world at your fingertips. Vancouver especially.”

Grace shrugged her shoulders. “It’s a blessing and a curse. I can’t go anywhere without running into someone that knows my dad or knows who I am and thinks they know me. It’s even worse when they knew my dad a long time ago and only ask about how he’s doing with his Parkinson’s now. Most of the time they don’t even truly care. And I’d trade it all in, every single penny, if it meant my dad never got Parkinson’s.”

Svea couldn’t imagine living that kind of life. She didn’t know how Grace did it – or Brock, for that matter. She would be a sobbing mess on the floor every single day. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be insensitive when I—”

“Oh God no. No no no – you don’t need to apologize. I just…” Grace paused, trying to collect her thoughts. “I know how fortunate I am, believe me. I just don’t think people know that – that I know I’m fortunate. But Parkinson’s – any chronic illness – it really humbles you. Most people don’t know what that’s like. And like, thank God they don’t. But they think they know.”

All Svea could do was nod her head and listen.

Whenever Brock sent a text that said ‘come over and watch a movie’ Grace knew what that really meant. But instead of finding it lewd, she’d slather on some raspberry chapstick and be on her merry way to Brock’s apartment.

When they were done, and lying in bed together, with her head on his chest and her hair sprawled everywhere, that’s when the talking would begin. “How’s your dad doing?” “Are the new round of meds working?” “Is he having more trouble getting up now?” “What are the doctors saying?” “How’s his memory?” “How’s the swallowing?” “Are the doctors recommending speech therapy?”

“When I quit dance, my dad was so disappointed,” Grace revealed one night as Brock was running his hands through her hair. “It was the only thing I was ever really, really good at. I wasn’t the best in school. I just didn’t get things the way other kids did. And when I told him the reason, he made me promise I’d keep doing dance in some capacity. I maybe wouldn’t do it super-competitively anymore with him driving me all around BC and flying me all over Canada and the US to attend competitions, but I’d still do it. That’s why I teach at the Goh Ballet. Like…I know I’m not the smartest girl in the world, but I like to think I have a big heart. And I just hope that people see that.”

“I wear number six because it was my dad’s number,” Brock revealed too, one night when they were alone. “I wanted…I wanted to make sure that if he wasn’t around, my career would still honour him in some way. I want that to be my legacy…like, everything I do, I do for my dad.”

Grace nodded. She completely understood. “I don’t think I’ve ever met a person who knows and understands exactly what I’m going through,” she said. “Do you think it was fate that brought us together at that meeting?”

Brock found himself nodding his head automatically. “Of course,” he said softly.

“I’m sorry we couldn’t have you at the house for dinner, Brock, but our chef is on vacation,” Eliza Carmichael, Grace’s mom, smiled from across the table as she sipped on her glass of wine. From beside her, her husband, Grace’s step-dad James kept perusing the menu, as did Grace’s two step-brothers, Jasper and Theo, who were seated at opposite heads of the table.

“Oh that’s no problem at all,” he smiled politely, grabbing Grace’s hand underneath the table and squeezing it gently before putting it in his lap. “I actually come here with the boys sometimes. The food here is amazing.”

“It is, isn’t it? James knows the head chef,” she said. “Grace tells me you’re a hockey player.”

It was at that point that James put down his menu. “Honey, he plays for the Vancouver Canucks. We’ve been over this.”

Eliza rolled her eyes playfully before picking up her menu. It was only at that point that Brock noticed the giant rock on her finger. It was the size of his eyeball. “Grace tells me you live in Shaughnessy,” he said, trying to make polite conversation. “I hear that’s a beautiful neighbourhood.”

“Oh, it is. Perfect place for the quiet life hockey player’s lead,” James joked. Brock forced out a chuckle.

“I love this song!!!” Grace exclaimed as the DJ began to play some old school Rihanna. She downed the rest of her drink and slapped the glass against the bar before grabbing Brock’s arm with one hand and Svea’s hand with the other, knowing that Svea would, on instinct, grab Elias’s arm and drag him to the dance floor too.

The club was completely unstuffy. There were no girls dressed to the nines, no four-inch stiletto heels digging into Grace’s feet, no people showing up just to be seen in booths with bottle service. It was completely unpretentious and that’s how Grace liked it. Considering her lifestyle and her wealth, it was actually how she liked everything. So when the DJ began playing pop songs, she couldn’t help but start dancing uncontrollably. To his credit, Brock did too. It was like he lost all his inhibitions and began moving his body in tune with the music. Even Elias and Svea did, and Grace knew how…well, quiet they were. This wasn’t their scene at all but they were having the time of their life dancing with each other, spinning each other around and moving to the beat of the music.

For at least a night, Grace could forget. She could forget how her parents used her to get back at one another during an awful divorce. She could forget her mom re-married an equally as nice guy as her dad but became more pretentious as the years went on and the wealth accumulated. She could forget that she made the decision to quit dancing professionally. She could forget her dad had Parkinson’s. For one night, everything was perfect. Everything was fun. Everything was how it should be.

“Fuuuuck, baby,” Brock groaned as he watched Grace climb on top of him, leaning forward so she could press his breasts up against his face. He immediately took the opportunity to place wet, open mouth kisses all over her breasts, kissing down to her nipples before taking them in his mouth. He could feel her grab his cock and lower herself onto it, sighing at the feeling of him filling her up. “Feel good?”

“You always feel amazing,” she smiled, her hair falling around her face. “That’s why I can’t stop fucking you.”

Brock chuckled, a cocky smile on his face as he reached up and brought Grace’s face down so he could kiss her and stick his tongue down her throat. “Ride me, baby,” he mumbled against her lips.

Grace began rocking her hips back and forth, her body moving so expertly and so in tune with Brock’s. Almost immediately, she began to moan, and Brock grabbed her hands and intertwined their fingers so she’d have something to brace against. Brock was in a trance – as he usually was when Grace was riding. He was completely and utterly transfixed by her in every sense of the word, and in every way; from the hair on her head to the red nail polish on her toes.

“God, I fucking love you, Grace.”

The words had barely escape Brock’s mouth before he realized the magnitude of what he said, how he said it, and when he’d fucking said it. God, he was such a fucking idiot!!!!! During sex?! Really?! Way to live the cliché Brock Boeser! Way to be a fucking idiot and—

“I fucking love you too, Brock,” he heard Grace say, a smile adorned on her face. The both of them giggled, and couldn’t stop giggling for a while even though she was still riding him. It was miraculous. “Way to say it for the first time while I’m riding you,” she joked.

“I couldn’t help myself,” he said.

“You’re lucky I love you, because that’s such an amateur move, Brock.”

the oldest daughter of Charles and Eva

married to Brody Carmichael

she was the first of anyone in her generation of the family to raise to fame thanks to Disney Channel

a perfectionist, usually the mum of the cousins when they all get together, articulate and intelligent

definitely her father’s daughter, she’s always looking for ways to make sure she and her loved ones come out on top. she’s VERY aware that the hamilton name is valuable and uses it to her advantage.

manipulative, there’s nobody she wouldn’t wrap around her finger for her own benefit.

PARK ELIAS HAMILTON (25)

the only son of Charles and Eva

the younger brother of disney by exactly 12 minutes

he’s always lived in the shadows of his twin sister to some extent and has never had any upset about it. he’s the introverted one but is by no means shy.

charles had his career mapped out for him from about 12 years old; he was signed to the label and placed in a major boyband when he was sixteen.

definitely not as into the public eye as the rest of his family and actually makes a conscious effort to stay away from it.

fucks around BUT is so protective over his sisters; particularly imogen and florence; he might not be out arguing with people in group chats but will definitely go a step further and hurt people if he feels there’s a serious threat

weirdly good with children and likes being an uncle

IMOGEN VIOLA HAMILTON (19)

the middle child who grew up seeing how much her older sister achieved and wanted nothing more than to be the same

was often babied by Eva and kept out of the chaos but the older she got, the more she wanted in and felt excluded

she saw the perfect ‘in’ when park dropped out of his boyband at 19. imogen was 14 and forced her dad to listen to her first demo; she was signed and has worked her ass off to prove herself

seeing her popularity, Charles is now taking her seriously and is hoping she’ll become big enough to get a new generation obsessed with the hamilton brand.

imogen is known for pushing buttons and is almost a younger, more scheming version of disney. she’s determined to come out on top in everything she does.

definitely the biggest personality out of the whole family.

is VERY protective over florence, not so much the other two.

FLORENCE OPHELIA HAMILTON (18)

the youngest daughter and the baby of the family in general

married to Dominic Romano.

florence grew up home-schooled from the age of six after she massively struggled to keep up in the early years of school. Charles & Eva refused to believe she was dyslexic and paid for one of the best teachers in the business. it didn't help, of course.

being home-schooled through her childhood made her very clingy to her siblings and not as ambitious to socialise with other people. they all babied her and protected her massively.

she's a bit of a cry baby ngl and tended to get picked on by the rest of the family until an adult stepped in 😂

she re-entered the education system in time for high school but was still severely behind. she found her love for dance around the same age.

has a heart of gold and while she benefits from being a hamilton, tends to value genuine connections and the little moments more than material things.

CHILDREN OF ELIAS (& JASLENE)

TINSLEY AIYLA HAMILTON (24) (open)

younger than disney and park by 6 months; born in june of the following year.

like the twins, she was born and raised in france but spent a longer time there. she moved to toulouse when she was 8 and lived there until she was 15. then she moved to violet springs to be closer to family.

she’s a lot more of a people pleaser than disney or park and usually grins and bears whatever is thrown at her but is also such a gossip and will definitely talk behind your back :’)

uses her family’s name to date famous musicians but isn’t that famous herself, she’s done a few modelling gigs here and there

very anti-settling down. seeing florence and disney get married lowkey scares her. she always wants her autonomy and creativity - I think of her as a richer, more materialistic version of jo from little women LOL

ABEL CHARLES HAMILTON (20) (open)

the middle child and eldest son of Elias

french is his first language, he lived there until he was 13. however, he always craved being in london before his parents even made the decision. he felt like it had more to offer.

abel came out as gay to his family when he was 15 and has never really felt any type of way about it. the hamilton family are extremely progressive and accepting, surprisingly to most.

he is the family’s budding sports star, with his main interest being in ice hockey. he’s currently semi-professional and puts all of his energy into that.

he is known to be a bit of a player; he seems to have a new guy every other week and loves to flirt. he is DEFINITELY just enjoying being a young adult.

one of those annoying kid’s who are just good at everything, honestly.

he does have a short temper and tends to get into fights every 3-5 business days but what can you do?

LUCA MARCEL HAMILTON (18) (open)

a few months younger than florence; she was born early July, he was born in early October.

the youngest child of elias and jaslene

after seeing tinsely dabble in modelling, he’s become VERY into it and has IMG models since he was around 16.

he’s very artistic and a bit of a visionary and has a great appreciation for aesthetics. he’s actually helped to style some of the artists on the label too.

luca is the youngest in the family but probably one of the most academically intelligent, maybe only second to disney. he was in the grade above his age range in school because he just wasn't challenged enough.

the definition of a nepotism baby; at this point in his life, big modelling gigs and exclusive events fall into his lap.

bisexual.

CHILDREN OF PIERRE (& DANIELLE)

RIA ELISE HAMILTON (21)

the only child of pierre, who unlike his older brothers, flew to North America to oversee the label’s headquarters on that side of the Atlantic

ria was actually born in puerto rico, where her mother comes from, but spent most of her life in florida

she’s very clearly the only child and definitely more spoilt and self-centred than any of her cousins; she’s not used to having to share or compromise at all

she used to be the cousin they would all dread seeing on christmas because she was just a drama queen LOL think Kim kardashian, but she’s got better with age

was the popular girl in high school & has never really had to deal with anything like bullying or struggling with self-confidence.

at 18, she moved to Los Angeles to attend diamond bridge and pursue a music career. she also signed to her family’s record label.

Charles has brought her to st judes to help fire up the hype around the Hamilton’s more than it already is

not going to lie, she’s a little bit of a home wrecker.

Born into a world of tenderness and light, Jace's arrival into this universe was a moderately placid one. The instant he opened his eyes to the world, he was a cherished and adored baby boy. This was how the young boy assumed his life would continue to play out: showered with affection and admiration, given endless love and support by both of his parents. With his father, Alexander, a renowned criminal lawyer and his mother, Katherine, an equally as esteemed neurosurgeon, the Torres family were respected, affluent and forefront in their community. Always hosting charity events, attending fancy galas, prominent figures at every fundraiser, the Torres' seemed as normal as just about any aristocratic London-based family. One might just say that Jace was destined for greatness — primed for success. Of course, all eyes of the extended Torres family were on the boy, watching and waiting to see how his story would unfold. Would he follow his father’s footsteps? Or his mother’s? The idea of him paving his own path had failed to cross the minds of them all.

From a young age, Jace had been incredibly intelligent and adept, his keen perception proving to extremely surpass that of his age. He was able to captivate others with both his appearance and his capabilities. Those in his company hung off his every word, often discovering themselves enthralled by a charming and sincere young boy. Regardless of his family’s secured position in society and their abundance of riches, Jace never looked for much more than their approval and their devotion. It is perhaps this fact alone that makes the next chapter in his life one of those unbearable moments that seem to live on for the rest of eternity, an emotion so overwhelming that it lingers in your bones until the end of time — rattling them every so often to remind you of the pain. The tenth instalment in the story of Jace’s life is what he would nowadays refer to as the beginning of the end. All of the light and love that he had encountered throughout his life up until that point had only been leading him to the tragedy and devastation that would prevail from that day henceforth. The night that Jace had been sat down by his mother and told that his father had met his fatal end in a horrific car accident was the same night that Jace lost a piece of himself. A ten-year-old boy endured his first heartbreak then. And, unfortunately, the torment refused to cease. Jace’s existence prior to the horrendous atrocity that altered the very fabric of his nature endured for what would now seem to him a fleeting period in time. Yet, throughout those ten years of normalcy, every transient second aided in concocting the basis for all that was to come.

Within the span of a single year, Katherine had found herself in the clutches of what Jace would grow to describe as a vulture; a man of a lower class who latched onto his mother — leeching off her riches while abusing her in the process. Soon, this man, Nicholas Carmichael, became Jace’s stepfather and things only dipped further south afterwards. Nicholas drank copious amounts of liquor, ran around behind Katherine’s back, smacked at Jace for defending his mother and the list went on. He manipulated Katherine, made her pick a side, tore her relationship with Jace asunder. Nicholas was indeed an angry, offhand man who often resorted to acts of violence toward both Katherine and Jace. During this time, and within the blink of an eye, Jace turned hostile and indifferent. It was as if he had transformed into a polar opposite version of what he’d always been — metamorphosing into an alternate version of his old self. Once a sheltered child who knew nothing but warmth and consideration, Jace was soon neglected, discarded and left to fend for himself. It was enough to turn him into a colder, less vibrant boy who soon became void of emotion and attachment. He picked fights with his stepfather for the sheer kick he got out of it, rebelled against his mother and found his once soft heart hardening as a result of years of enduring torment at the hands of Nicholas.

Unfortunately for Jace, he’d stepped out of line one too many times and aged eleven, he found himself sent off to an all-boys boarding school. In one way, he was thankful to be shot of the horrid creature who claimed to be his stepfather. Yet, on the other hand, he spent sleepless nights worried about the mortality of his mother. All in all, though, his time spent in the educational facility was a positive one. He made friends, excelled in all of his classes and extracurriculars. For the years that Jace boarded at the school, his life seemed to be steering him down the right path. Once he graduated, he’d decided to follow the same path as his father: criminal law. He felt it was the right thing to do in order to honour his father. Jace wound up attending Oxford University where he resided in a dorm, visiting his mother on the weekends. However, as all good things do, they come to an end. In Jace’s case, his few years of bliss and contentedness arrived at a rather abrupt halt, taking a severe nosedive. He was nineteen when he learned of his mother’s passing and, ultimately, lost control of himself and of his path in life. He dropped out of university, moved back home and spent many months alone and aimless; desperate to find answers behind his mother’s suspicious death. Of course, Nicholas was nowhere to be seen. He hadn’t even had the decency to show his face at Katherine’s funeral. One thing was for sure, though: he’d walked off into the sunset with the Torres fortune, presumably never to be seen again. The details outlined in Katherine’s autopsy report had been vague and nobody seemed willing to help Jace in his search for answers. Though that did little to deter him from continuing to hunt for the truth behind his mother’s death. Without a shadow of doubt in his mind, Jace knew deep down that Nicholas had been responsible but with no evidence, the idea of justice being served seemed to drift further and further out of reach.

Eventually, after years of fighting and persisting with his mission, Jace was able to uncover concealed elements of Nicholas’ background. As it turned out, the man was involved in gang activity and played a prime roll in drug trafficking throughout the streets of London. Though, still failing to get his hands on any kind of proof of Nicholas’ involvement in Katherine’s murder, a twenty-three-year-old Jace began to ponder if he should continue down this road. Tracking down his stepfather had consumed Jace whole, rotting him from the insides out. For so long he’d been holding onto an immense amount of resentment and wrath that he’d become bitter, hostile and obsessed. He knew it would only end in disaster if he continued to cling onto his vendetta and so for the following year, Jace pressed pause on seeking the truth. At least, until he’d happened upon a new lead that indeed confirmed his assumptions about Nicholas’ role in Katherine’s death. This was the break that Jace had been desperate for — the fuel that added flames to the fire within his belly. With new information and a penchant for revenge, he set off on his previously abandoned purpose.

Admittedly, it had taken Jace months to successfully unearth the exact location of Nicholas and when he did, he wasn’t entirely sure what to do with the information. Still, he set off for New York City with plans of confronting the man. Part of Jace wanted nothing more than to make his stepfather suffer, to subject Nicholas to torture as appalling as what Katherine had undoubtedly endured. Another part of him wanted to reveal all the little details that he’d uncovered, to tell him he knew what he’d done and watch his stepfather wince in objection and pathetically string one faux apology after another. Neither of these scenarios played out in the end. Instead, Jace’s first encounter with Nicholas after all this time had an entirely different outcome than he’d anticipated. Managing to tail the older man to Lux, Jace decided to linger around outside in the hopes that Nicholas would make an appearance. As fate would have it, only a mere hour had passed and there he was, leaving the building alone; having been removed from the vicinity for hassling one of the dancers. As Nicholas made his way to the back of the club, Jace followed in the shadows. Stood at the edge of the establishment to watch his stepfather from afar, Jace considered the endless possibilities that had entered his mind the second he set eyes on the man who’d destroyed his life.

When Jace eventually approached his stepfather, the look that claimed Nicholas’ face was one of incalculable shock and Jace couldn’t help but feel a twisted sense of pride in how his sheer presence brought about such dismay in the other man. He had to admit though, that it sent a strange twinge of nostalgia mixed together with dejection down the length of his spine. Jace had a collection of cruel words and obscenities he so desperately wanted to hurl the older man’s way. Alternatively, he opted for asking a question that had been haunting his warped mind for almost a decade. “Tell me, Nicholas. Why did you do it? Why did you murder my mother?” The inquiry almost made the other male tumble out of his shell even after he admitted that yes, he had been the one to end Katherine’s life and lacked even a shred of remorse. There was something in Nicholas’ blasé tone of voice that triggered an immediate rage deep within the pit of Jace’s stomach, bubbling and bubbling away, rising up and up until the only colour he could see was red and unfortunately for Nicholas, he was on the receiving end of Ross’ explosion. Moving in a flash, before he knew it, Jace was invading Nicholas’ personal space and the small blade he had been carrying was sunk into Nicholas’ abdomen.

Finally, once Jace had recoiled and his fists that had been balled into the fabric of Nicholas’ jacket eventually unfurled, his dark eyes took in the sight of the elder man’s towering figure collapse to the ground beneath him. Dropping his gaze to his hands, Jace noticed the way that the colour slowly began flowing back into his knuckles that had been white from the thin skin stretching tightly over the protruding bones. Flipping over his uncurled palms, Jace noted the way his hands trembled only marginally less than he expected they would be. It was the shrieking resonating in his ears that brought him to divert his attention toward Nicholas who was writhing around on the ground as a result of his suffering and loss of blood. Jace knew he had to get out of there — that he had to leave before he’d give anyone the chance to flock toward the screams and clap their eyes on his guilty face. As he backed away, watching the actions of his decision unfold, the feeling inside his gut was different than he imagined it would be. He had made the decision to kill Nicholas, there and then in the heat of the moment and it was a gradual and torturous death. A death inflicted by him deliberately, no matter the fact that it wasn’t premeditated. Lacking the desire to stick around and witness Nicholas’ final screech, Jace ran and before he even had the chance to allow any sort of repentance to seep into his body for what he’d just done, a gathering of men stepped out of a dark alleyway in front of him just footsteps away from the scene of the crime. There was something about the way in which they emerged from the darkness that caused Jace to immediately cease in his footfalls and as he briefly surveyed the area he realised there was nowhere left for him to run — there were too many of them and although he tried to fight them off, he was vastly outnumbered.

How Jace had managed to defend himself against the others, able to hold his own and give as good as he got, was beyond him. In the end, he pegged it down to sheer luck. Despite such a fluke, he was far from being out of the woods. Having witnessed the murder of Nicholas and how Jace had been able to stand his ground against the group, the eldest of the group of men had stepped forward to explain that he could use a young man of Jace’s stature and expertise. This was precisely how a then twenty-five-year-old Jace wound up entangled with the Berk-Morgan family. Initially, he was hired as a security for the same club that he’d slaughtered Nicholas outside of. After quite some time as an associate, he befriended Elias Morgan; soon becoming a confidant and someone the other trusted. Of course, the trust was mutual. And this has brought him into the position of becoming Elias’ right hand man. Now thirty-four, with nine years of experience under his belt, Jace is worlds away from the man he used to be. A shell of the man he used to be. Simply put, Jace has resigned himself to the reality that happiness is never going to be an emotion he will feel in his heart. He is closed off and secluded. He is mysterious and holds everyone in his life at arm’s length, afraid to let them in; only permitting people to see what he wants them to see and know what he wants them to know. His life is full of a myriad of memories soaked in blood and torment. A plethora of crooked dealings and immoral acts. But this is his life now and he isn’t prepared to give up the good fight – not after everything he has gone through just to be exactly where he is right now. A fighter has always lived inside of Jace Torres.
