What Autocorrect Does to Cosmere Character Names
@cosmereplay suggested this list about how characters' names autocorrect in my phone--a great idea! However...I write so many lists on my phone that my phone has learned pretty much everyone's name. If I legitimately mistype "Kaladin," the phone will just correct it to "Kaladin." It knows.
So instead...I went into my phone messaging app and looked at what was suggested as I typed the character's name. I also hopped into Microsoft and looked at their suggested spelling corrections. This did produce some...interesting results.
So here are my phone/computer suggestions for Cosmere names!
1. Kaladin
Phone suggestion: malady
Computer suggestion: paladin
This is so real. Kaladin feels that he himself is a malady while everyone else sees him as a (sometimes literal) knight in shining armor.
2. Zellion
Phone suggestion: zero
Computer suggestion: zillion
Ah yes. The age-old question. Is Zellion nothing...or is he everything? Zellion asks himself this question daily.
3. Shallan
Phone suggestion: shall and
Computer suggestion: shall an
If there is one thing both devices know for sure, it's that "Shallan" isn't a word. It's two words. And is there any better representation of Shallan, she who sees herself as multiple people in one?
4. Leshwi
Phone suggestion: lesbian
Computer suggestion: lechwe
My phone believes Leshwi to be a lesbian. My computer believes her to be the noble antelope, galloping over the plains of Africa (apparently that is what a "lechwe" is). I'm not sure I totally buy either of those headcanons, but I can appreciate them both.
5. Adolin
Phone suggestion: advil
Computer suggestions: adjoin, adoring, or addling
Yes, yes, I can see it. Adolin truly is a type of pain relief. He brings people together. He adores his wife and his friends. And I guess he...is confusing sometimes?
6. Dalinar
Phone suggestion: Salina
Computer suggestion: decliner
My phone is trying to find a lovely name for if Dalinar turns out to be trans, while my computer is like "Man he says no to everything."
7. Navani
Phone suggestion: navigate, java
Computer suggestion: nagana
Once again, my phone takes the positive track: Navani is an explorer! A computer programmer! Maybe the embodiment of coffee! My computer, meanwhile, has identified her as (looks up word)...some sort of parasitic disease that infects animals? Who wrote this? Moash?
8. Renarin
Phone suggestion: Renaissance, remarkable
Computer suggestion: remain
Okay, I'm noticing a definite pattern here. My phone (correctly) sees Renarin as a remarkable Renaissance man! My computer is like, "Well, he sure is there."
9. Raboniel
Phone suggestion: rabies
Computer suggestion: baronial
The positivity/negativity polarity has switched! Now my phone thinks Raboniel is a disease with a 100% fatality rate whereas my computer believes her to be "grand, impressive, opulent."
I think Navani would be like, "Both fit."
10. Rlain
Phone suggestion: flair, email
Computer suggestion: rain
Okay...I think these all sort of work. Rlain definitely has flair. He is the bridger of minds, just like, uh, email? And singers do go into storms to transform, so rain is a fair association too.
11. Hesina
Phone suggestion: Jedi; hesitate; he's in; he's insane; he's inside
I don't think I even need to go to the computer for this one. It's already a, uh, lovely (?) poem. Well, less lovely and more terrifying...who is the "he" who is terrorizing Hesina?? Luckily, she's a Jedi, so she'll definitely be able to handle it.
12. Vivenna
Phone suggestion: video, vice
Computer suggestion: Vienna
I feel that Vivenna herself would be unhappy with these suggestions. She does not see herself as a person of vice nor is she a big city person. And I feel like original flavor Vivenna wouldn't be a huge fan of videos either.
13. Zahel
Phone suggestion: Zach
Computer suggestion: hazel
Something about Zahel autocorrecting to Zach cracks me up. "Yup, that's just ol' Zach over there. Zach with his sword. Ardent Zach."
I'm pretty neutral on "hazel." It has a "z" I guess.
14. Susebron
Phone suggestion: dude, dude right, dude rocks
Once again, no computer is needed here. The phone has already produced such a lovely poem. And unlike the Hesina one, it's not a horror show! It's like someone is commenting on Susebron himself. "Dude! Dude, right? Dude rocks!"
15. Steris
Phone suggestion: stern, sterile, sterilization
Computer suggestion: steric
I mean...yeah. Steris can be stern. She can seem sterile. She would definitely be a fan of sterilization of, like, equipment after experiments. "Steric" apparently means "relating to the arrangement of atoms" which, uh, sure?
16. Kelsier
Phone suggestion: keep, keeping
Computer suggestion: Kelsie
My phone seems Kelsier as a survivor--someone who keeps on keeping on!
My computer is now the one headcanoning a character as trans.
15. Sadeas
Phone suggestion: safe, safety
Computer suggestion: sides, saddens
I think that, uh, Adolin would have some words to say about my phone's suggestions here. Sadeas as "safe safety"??
But Dalinar might agree with the computer. Sadeas did pick sides. It was indeed sad.
18. Moash
Phone suggestion: Moana
Computer suggestion: mash, mosh, moat
Yes, yes, the computer is definitely on to something here (he smashes, he's in a pit, he makes himself an island...)
But can we appreciate that my phone just thinks he's a Disney princess? Tumblr's with you, phone.

stormlight au number 27. Elhokar and Kaladin time travel from Oathbringer to Way of Kings.
IMPORTANT: kaladin and elhokar develop weird unhealthy codependent situationship.
(MAJOR Oathbringer spoilers below)
...
...
Kaladin isn't pulled away by Adolin when he has his meltdown over Elhokar's death, over not being able to Save Everyone, and instead clings to Elhokar's dying body as a symbol of his failures. When Kaladin is killed in the confusion, something - the universe/ sja anat/ tattered pieces of honor and odium / hey maybe even adolnesium themselves who knows is like - errr. What. nope. Not my special boy!  Go back, Try Again.
Kaladin wakes up in Way Of Kings, maybe a highstorm or two before the Tower. Kaladin is just like ah i see eternal damnation. Eternal damnation for my failures. Takes a little time before even considering the idea of time travel. Fortunately his attitude and response to thinking he's been consigned to everlasting ironic torment is remarkably similar to his response to the events of the first book, so a few days go by before the bridgecrew notices he's more fucked up than usual.
Elhokar wakes up and (i enjoy the idea of THE COSMERE ITSELF SAVING KALADIN STORMBLESSED! and also Elhokar is there!) has no idea what to do. Testy with both thadeus and dalinar. Figures out some lightweaving. Maybe passes an order that the bridgemen should all have shields, in case Kaladin doesn't remember the future either, as a little goodwill present. After a couple more days he sneaks out to thadeus's bridgemen barracks to ask the hero for help, since none of the other kholins are responding to his leading mention of things he saw in 'dreams'.
Obviously he's not going to show his actual face when the guy who murdered him is in the room.
Dark amorphous blob with glowing blue eyes entering the barracks: Greetings Stormbles - do you all just sleep on the floor? And what is that smell? Heralds, this is depressing. Bridge four: WHAT THE - VOIDBRINGER! VOID- Kaladin : calm down, men, that's not what a voidbringer looks like. I think...its an unmade? Are there unmades in damnation? Only - that voice...do i...know you... Dark amorphous blob with glowing blue eyes: well, looking around, i suppose i can see why you would think this is braize, but come on, we're not actually dead and the almighty sent us ...here... for a reason. I need you to do your hero thing, huphup. Kaladin: ...shallan? Dark amorphous blob with glowing blue eyes: I suppose I am glad for the memory confirmation, but do i look - ugh - okay for hopefully obvious reasons i'm not going to put my true face on, so don't be an idiot and blurt out my real name, but i can probably wear the, ah, outfit she picked for me in Kholinar [Amorphous dark blob turns into pretty light eyed woman]: tada! Bridgefour: uh Teft: storms...you're one of them too...i think... Skar: does anyone else feel like we're in more danger now? Like better we were found with a voidbringer in our quarters than a brightlady? Drehy: no, i agree Hobber: shh! We're finally getting the captain's mysterious backstory ! Bissig: i TOLD you guys he must have got involved with a brightlady Leyten: and i bet on voidbringers which we all agreed was 10 to 1 so i'm pretty sure i'm winning Kaladin: Kaladin: [starting to tear up] Brightlady: uh Kaladin: [grabbing brightlady and audibly sobbing] Brightlady: UH Teft: storms you really broke him  Brighlady: what! I have no idea whats happening! He doesn't even like me! You all must have done something to him! Kaladin:  i thought...i failed you...that I cohldnt save you...i saw you get stab ed Brightlady: oh...huh. you really take that 'protect everyone' thing seriously. Do you do this every time someone you're guarding gets hurt? Moash: yeah... he's pretty much always like this Bridge four: [general nods of agreement] Brightlady: [awkwardly patting kaladin on the back]: well. The good news is i'm much more stab resilient now! Aha. Still would prefer not to... Kaladin: [weeping] Brightlady: come on bridgeman, there's a desolation coming remember? Saving the world and all that? Rest of bridge four:
Anyway Elhokar somewhat intentionally leads the non Kaladin members of bridge four to believe that the actual Elhokar is dead, and that he (she? No, he, i think. Maybe they? Just - just go by what face i'm wearing!) has taken the king's place through dark magics. He assumes that the bridgemen will like him better if they think he's some sort of unholy kingkilling blood sorcerer, as opposed to the actual elhokar kholin.
Depressingly, he's right.
Unhealthy situationship! They both see each other as a Symbol. Elokhar is the Chance to Save Everyone. Kaladin is the True Hero and Leader. Kaladin starts tutoring elohkar on how to be a good person and leader, blaming his death on not doing so earlier.
Kaladin's ability to do so is somewhat hindered by his deep unwillingness to see elhokar in danger, and his extreme tendency to take control when he sees something wrong. He objectively recognizes that this was also dalinars problem, but still shakes like a chihuahua sometimes to avoid grabbing elhokhar by the scruff of the neck when he does something stupid. Definitely questionable how qualified kaladin is for teaching, but like. There is progress.
Elhokar uses kaladin ruthlessly as a glowing flying tool to instill fear in his highprinces, which makes kaladins skin crawl a little, but it is helping enforce a lot of social changes protecting darkeyes that he never dreamed could happen.
Elhokar at somepoint offers to lightweave kaladin and make him king elokhar instead.
Kaladin doesn't even know where to start unpacking that.
Intriguingly, the whole not seeing the man for the symbol thing, while being Not Great, is also the source of a bit of solid common ground for each other. A few dizzy moments in private where they connect uniquely on what it is to have no friends who are not followers. Of never being allowed to be just a man.
Also some incredibly specific trauma bonding of living through the actual apocalypse. Both have some serious issues regarding dying in the absolute shitshow that was that the unmade palace. Mutual extreme distress when elokhar accidentally lightweaves a flashback. Please imagine a servant walking in on King Elhokar and Lord Stormblessed clinging to one another and shaking on the ceiling while a nightmareish orgy of death takes place beneath them. Paid off extremely well to never discuss what she saw, not that she'd be able to explain it.
Hard to completely cover up because she ran away screaming. Couple people assume the two men were fucking, but honestly most assume by her genuine distress, i mean jokes aside, those are two very good looking men and she was, you know, screaming in terror, so almost definitely not that. Some sort of vision from the almighty? Maybe a voidbringer??
Bridgefour, under the impression that 'elhokars' 'true form' is closer to the shadowy nightmare blob they initially saw (do you know how hard it is to lightweave invisibility? It was a rough draft, alright?), are largely convinced that she walked in on that. And maybe them fucking, uncertain about that part. They are initially supportive of their captain's potential monsterfucking (the man deserves to relax) but grow increasingly concerned about some of the red flags in their relationship.
Anyway, needless to say, dalinar and kaladins dynamic is weird in this one. Still a fair amount of instant mututal respect. But now elhokar is cribbing shamelessly from dalinars hero journey and calling him out  on his tendency to seize power, undermining elokhar. So dalinar feels a lot more wobbly about his place.
Apparently not even the visions from god are special, elhokar and his secret radiant (a real radiant!) had been receiving some too? Better, more useful ones even?
And the radiant is taking his place in elhokars trust, and calling him out even MORE for not teaching elhokhar how to be a leader when he was younger, stormfather,  did you want him to fail? how did it get this bad? Fortunately, Dalinar is willing to get humble and Grow. Honestly, dalinar and kaladin are probably in a better place. More mutual trust. Less constant exchange of unpayable debts. Kaladins rank is really confusing, but theyre closer to equals than they were in canon.
Teft: lad we need to talk about you and the Uh. Lightweaver. shapeshifter? Kaladin : what? I thought you guys were warming up to eachother Lopen: gancho they're the best unholy creature i've ever met. Proper respect for herdassian women. Skar: lopen does not agree with this intervention but the rest of us are...concerned. Rock: is how he looks at you that we are worried. Like starving man looks at beloved pet axehound. Kaladin: Kaldin: what? Moash: you know i'm fond of the guy, it's like Skar said, we're a little...concerned. That he wants to, you know, kill and eat you so he can take your place. Kaladin: he wouldn't - he definitely wouldn't eat me. Teft: see, the fact that you didn't immediately argue with the 'murder you to take your place' part of that is concerning. Kaladin: he's just going through a lot. Rock: yes, but way you circle one another...again, like axehound and man, only you change places Kaladin: hes my king! and im secretly tutoring him on how to be a leader! of course our dynamic is going to be odd!  Teft: look its - he's not a normal person. He doesn't know how to...be a human, i don't think.  Kaladin: yeah, sure, I'll give you that. but he's getting better! You saw how he said thank you to sigzil the other day! Moash: kal... Kaladin: i can fix him Moash: kal
Sure hope dalinar never overhears bridgefour and elhokar talking about how glad they are that his nephew is dead and that new elhokar took his place! He definitely wouldn't go into a murderous rage and do something regrettable if he believed that were true!

everyone seems so convinced dalinar is going to be homophobic to renarin. maybe im just a delusional dalinar stan but in row 54 when dalinar is talking to renarin about him being an enlightened truthwatcher and he says, and i quote, "whatever you are son, it's a blessing. you may be a different kind of radiant, but you're radiant all the same. you shouldn't feel the need to hide this" that sure sounds like a parent who has figured out that their child is queer and is not going to press them on it but is trying to get across that they Accept Their Son's Differences. like im not saying dalinar is a champion for gay rights or anything and im certainly not saying that he's free of the biases of heterosexual society just because sadeas sucked him off or whatever, but what i AM saying is that he's a moderate liberal dad who is a little bit confused about how to be a good ally but who is trying. and maybe that trying doesn't hit at all for renarin. maybe dalinar being like "and that's okay" a little too affirmatively when renarin comes out to him is not going to actually help renarin feel supported in the gendered hellscape that is vorin society. but i certainly don't think that he's going to be angry or, like, disowning renarin or talking about what a disappointment he is. this man learned how to read for chrissakes. and when renarin learned how to read dalinar wasn't like oh son this is so shameful he was like well this is odd and unexpected! but i have a lot more important shit going on lmao. i think renarin coming out to dalinar would be like that.

Stormlight Archive Characters at a Waterpark:
following my stormlight characters at a theme park post, here’s my take on some characters at a waterpark lol:
Dalinar: likes the waterpark, but forgets it’s there for fun purposes. finds a place he can swim laps, sometimes aggressively, sometimes passively. likes to read all the safety signs, you will NOT catch him running in the park. enjoys the flumes! you will also find him telling off other members of the public for not following the rules, the lifeguards are confused by this.
Adolin: the waterpark is just as good as a theme park! totally runs when no one is looking, and also does sneaky cannonballs into the water when he can get away with it. FIEND FOR THE FLUMES AND SLIDES and will willingly carry everyone’s rubber rings like a pack horse just to make them go on the slide with him. takes great joy in splashing Dalinar, and Jasnah specifically.
Shallan: the waterpark is fun! but she doesn’t enjoy wearing swimming costumes so feels a little self conscious the whole time. sticks with Kaladin for a lot of the time because he looks just as uncomfortable as her! when she does let loose, she enjoys going down the slides in a train with Adolin and goofing around in the pools with beach balls! she manages to accidentally throw one in Jasnahs face, and she swiftly breaks the no running rule when she sees the death glare…
Kaladin: finds the waterpark a little bit overwhelming, but still enjoys it. also not a huge fan of being so undressed, many women and men keep staring at him… absolute slut for the lazy river tho, and you will find him in a ring just going round and round and round. when Adolin makes him go on the slide, he figures out how to balance the ring to go super fucking fast, much to Adolin’s delight, and agrees to teach Adolin how to do it.
Navani: the vibes of the waterpark are good, but she will NOT be participating. does everyone not realise how many people would have urinated in that water? she hadn’t had a chance to see the filtration systems so therefore does not trust it. she’s quite happy to lounge about tho and take a break! she will order a sneaky cocktail, and chill in an outside lounger in the sun with a book!
Renarin: weirdly loves the waterpark in his own way. the water feels nice and he likes the feeling of all the different spouts and fountains and how they all feel different when they hit him. has to take breaks from all the colours and sound, but is a pro at finding quiet spots to just vibe out. goes on a slide with Adolin with a double ring and actually has a great time!
Szeth: is a little freak at the waterpark lol. you will find him standing under those huge spouts that just POUND water harshly on top of you. he just stands there and let’s it happen. the public is concerned. Dalinar eventually pulls him out before he drowns himself. when he’s not doing that, he’s trailing either Kaladin or Dalinar and doing whatever they do.
Jasnah: has a good time at the waterpark, there’s lots to study. how does the lazy river work? how does one get the perfect experience on the slides? she likes to swim around, but her guilty pleasure is the hot pools, and she will boil herself in them.
That’s my take! Again feel free to add more in a reblog/tag!! I love to read them lol ahahahahah!

Thoughts on The Way of Kings.
Amazing! Brilliant! Fantasy how it should be. Defies expectation. I could speak in quotes throughout this whole post, but considering I'm writing about the first book when already halfway through the third should be enough to tell you how engaging or a read this is.
I'm talking about the behemoth book The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, which is part of The Stormlight Archives series. I understand I'm late to the game and by now most of you reading this will already know that the series without a doubt has established itself as one of the most remarkable fantasy series of all time and the mastermind behind this spectacular read, Brandon Sanderson, has become a household name for many. But I can't help but write down my thoughts.
Fantasy Book Review states, "[Stormlight Archives] is a daunting proposition, and honestly, I would not recommend it if you are new to fantasy or new to Brandon Sanderson" Now, I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a Fantasy newbie - I mean, I read the Narnia series growing up, and I raced my friends to complete the Harry Potter books; pepper that with a few stand-alone fantasy novels and I'd say that makes me at least an Acquaintance of the genre…Right? Besides, reading should be a challenge in some form or another, preferably the rewarding kind. Fortunately, I was not privy to this warning before joining so many others on the Stormlight Archive journey. And a Journey it has been.
Before I share my experiences and thoughts with you, I should probably first attempt to summarize the book, an undertaking I should note that even Sanderson himself finds stymying. So, without further delay, let's begin.
Our story takes place in the world of Roshar, where seemingly mysterious Highstorms regulate nature and society. Centuries have passed since the fall of the Knights Radiant, but their magical weapons, Shardplate and Shardblades, were left behind. These relics and tools are priceless that give their wielders incredible power. Wars are fought over them; kingdoms are traded. One such war has lasted for six years on the Shattered Plains. A war that goes deeper than just weapons.
The book mainly follows three characters; Kaladin, a surgeon's apprentice turned soldier turned slave. Shallan is a quick-witted scholar with a dark past who must steal a powerful gemstone to save her family. And Highprince Dalinar, an army commander whose wisdom blossomed from a life of war and regret. All of these loglines might seem like their own story, but Saunderson's unique narration style effectively weaves their stories together comprehensively and attractively.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I did not read The Way of Kings. Instead, I decided to listen to the audiobook. I strategically chose the audiobook to listen while moving from D.C. to L.A. However, I could only listen to about three out of the fifty-five hour-long track as it was deemed "too confusing" by my girlfriend. No surprise - she was correct. I found it hard to blindly follow Saunders headfirst into the world of Roshar. Thankfully my work requires me to travel a lot, so I spend a lot of time in the car - the perfect time for an audiobook: just me, my thoughts, and a unique ensemble of characters.
As mentioned earlier, the most brilliant aspect of Saunderson's storytelling is his use of alternate points of view. The jumping between characters prevents burnout among readers and allows the world to build more organically. While some sections felt a bit drawn out or repetitive, particularly with some of Shallan's scenes or Kaladin's flashbacks, the overall pacing was excellent and allowed for a more engaging reading experience.
I found that the most engaging sections of the story were Kaladin's. Misery surrounds Kaladin's character. Death seems to take everyone that he tries to protect. Kaladin is depressed, and his negative thoughts overwhelm him, nearly killing him. If you like a hero that is dragged through crem at every turn but somehow remains true, then look no further. I often found myself getting frustrated. Kaladin's pessimistic stubbornness justified it may be, had me protesting audibly. That is why I loved him—a hero with actual conflict and real dilemmas but who somehow consistently saves the day.
Dalinar's character is, in my opinion, the most well-rounded. He has such a deep history that is often shrouded in mystery. There could definitely be a whole book solely focusing on him. His sections also pose questions about faith and religion. There is no doubt he is a flawed man, maybe even once evil, but I can't help but compare him to Peter or any one of the disciples in the Bible.
And finally, a few other reviews mention that Shallan's character could sometimes be annoying, but I found her to be really engaging. Her logic and reasoning are a thrill to ponder, especially during her acts of persuasion.
I could go on and on about this book, and trust me, there is a lot more to be said…a lot more. But I would just take up time you could be using to read this book. So go! Read. Read. Read.

Ok we're doing this. We're reading the stormlight 5 prologue. I'm just going to liveblog here in one post to not spam everyone this time.
Spoilers ahead, of course.
wow gavilar is INSUFFERABLE. the ego of this guy has no end.
he calls the stormfather "it"
I just KNEW he was a manipulative piece of shit to dalinar too!
"both his pain and his addiction made him easy enough to control." i hate him so much
also i'm confused. is gavilar a radiant? (feels unlikely to me) why is the stormfather around him all the time? and you need to find words to become a herald? that's interesting
haha the two bastards meet
yeah he's literally a seon in a trenchcoat huh
"how long has it been since they all laughed together - he, Ialai, Navani and Sadeas" AREN'T YOU FORGETTING SOMEONE YOU STORMING PIECE OF SHIT
this prologue has revived my love for dalinar apparently. turns out gavilar is enough of an asshole to cancel out war crimes (temporarily at least)
does he like... not know that they are heralds?
"the man can't abide someone having more secrets than him" hrrrngahhahhhhhhhgggg
i want to see nalan beat the shit out of gavilar. it would be so satisfying
i'll try to stay content with the knowledge he gets murdered that day anyway
im so confused?? are they not really heralds? did the stormfather lie to him? i assume the stormfather lied to him because he is such an asshole and the stormfather doesn't actually buy his bullshit
"the sun could love the stars but never as equals" dude sure has a high opinion of himself
taravangian?
babe wake up new death rattle just dropped (we heard most of this one before though)
gavilar is the worst job interviewee ever
a herald has died????? (like... now? or did he see into the future?)
ok yes the stormfather did lie. good for him
"and why on all of roshar would it have done so" i can't possibly think of a reason
well! i really don't know what else to say. i really want a scene where the stormfather explains to dalinar that gavilar was not worth all the credit he's been giving him
tbh there weren't as many crazy reveals in this prologue as i thought there will be. It does set up the ba-ado-mishram backstory pretty well though

Unpopular opinion (apparently): Navani is a compelling character actually! Who is interesting to read! and really doesn't deserve all the fandom hate directed at her that I've been seeing lately
Honestly it's kind of confusing actually? By their own metrics, she's actually less problematic than Dalinar, but they give him a pass for all the same things they claim she's done (which are usually a massive reach anyway? They said she did war crimes and I said bitch where) Navani is supposed to be a war criminal because she a) was married to a conquering imperialist and b) she didn't vocally & wholeheartedly condemn him, but instead helped him run said empire. Oookay? Like. That's not objectively awesome in an ideal perfect world maybe but like...what?? Meanwhile, Dalinar literally commits war crimes on screen, and I don't see people arguing that this makes him a bad or even uninteresting character. If it comes up at all they're calling him a war criminal (affectionate), but they use the same label to argue that Navani is a waste-of-space character who shouldn't get any screen time.
The Geneva Conventions don't exist on Roshar lmao so it's kinda moot anyway, but fr I'm honestly struggling to remember a time when Navani broke them, explicit or implicit, so I'm honestly just really confused why that's a label ppl are latching onto, and perturbed by the double standard here. It's a non-issue for uwu Dadlinar, but why are y'all using the same yardstick to declare an older woman character poorly written and not compelling? Hypocrisy much, but also?? how do the two things even correlate lmaooooooo
(this post paid for by the Navani Kohlin protection squad. Haters come up with a reason that isn't thinly veiled sexism and/or ageism and then we'll talk.
Fine print: You're well within your rights to not like/enjoy a character but ffs words mean things, you can't just come up with these convoluted justifications to "prove" why the things you dislike are bad because you're so pure and only consume pure things so anything you vaguely dislike has to be irredeemably evil)
this might just be cause i haven't seen any egregious navani hate (certainly not made by people who like dalinar lmao) so im like.....i agree you can't forget about dalinar and gavilar's roles while criticizing hers, but that doesn't mean you can forget about her deal as well. the thing with stormlight is that nearly every lighteyed character has done pretty bad things, and the way the unification of alethkar was presented was very much a joint venture between gavilar, navani, sadeas, and ialai with dalinar also there. she wasn't the one riding out with them but she was very much instrumental in making those decisions. and she's not alone in her responsibility, but the responsibility exists. that doesn't impede on my or your ability to enjoy a character, like you said, I mean raboniel invented chemical gas attacks or something and everyone's obsessed with her.
she is a compelling character, and i do enjoy reading her pov chapters. i just feel like there's a bit of strawmanning going on here, and if im wrong and there are scores of posts that hate on navani while not having an issue with dalinar or gavilar i apologize, but there are valid reasons to dislike her

3-2-1 challenge
I was tagged by @itsgoldleaf , thank you!! This was fun 😊
This is how it works:
The theme for this weekend is Good Vibes! 😎 So we’re going to 3-2-1 style with your WIPs! What does that mean? For the number of WIPs you have, you’re going to start with sharing that number of sentences for the first one, drop by one for the next one, etc.
So FOR EXAMPLE: If I have 5 WIPs, then I’m going to share 5 sentences out of one of them, 4 sentences out of the next, 3 sentences out of the next, etc. GIVE US THOSE GOOD VIBES WITH ALL YOUR WIPs!
Only have 1 WIP? Share that 1 sentence and be proud! Tag all your writing friends to send them lots of Good Vibes!
...
oops I guess I missed the weekend Oh well... anyway I pretty much have 4 WIPs that I've actually been working on lately, or that at least have a decent amount written which I haven't shared in WIP games repeatedly without ever finishing them 🙈
soooo...-- only one of these even has a working title so I'll just. label them by fandom 😂-- some smut ahead:
4. Star Wars - Ba'kif/Thrass/Thrawn
The connection cut off and Ba’kif began clearing away his work, his frown deepening. His confusion and concern deepened along with it when Thrawn walked into his office with Thrass a few moments later. The young lieutenant looked about as close to distraught as Ba’kif could ever imagine him being, worry etched vividly on his face; and Thrass—
The scent hit Ba’kif like a punch to the gut as Thrass drifted to a stop in the middle of the room, looking around with slightly glazed eyes.
3. Stormlight Archive - Navani/Dalinar
But this, this in particular, is something Navani has no first-hand experience with, and though she's both heard and read promising things, she finds it hard to believe it could really be that—
Her train of thought is scattered with a shocked gasp as Dalinar, having gently pushed her thighs open and settled between them, dips his head and slowly, lightly, licks up between her legs. His tongue slides along easily, once, twice, three times; a slick warm tantalizing pressure that sets her nerves singing and has her aching for more even though he's barely touched her yet.
2. Dresden Files - Dresden/Marcone
“Take these off, please, Harry,” Marcone said with a tug at the waistband of my jeans. He climbed off me as he said it, and I’d already gotten halfway through doing exactly that before my brain recovered enough to actually… process what I was doing.
1. Stargate Atlantis - Todd/Sheppard
“I can hear your thoughts, John Sheppard… I can read your desires, as clearly as if you’d shouted them for everyone to hear.”

Ok I have finished Oathbringer… one word to sum it up… PHENOMENAL!! ❤️
My thoughts: Spoiler free!
Brandon Sanderson is incredible of making amazing worlds and such intriguing well developed plot and characters. The plot is so intricate and layered, with so many secrets that when you discover one secret another secret is formed waiting to be revealed.
So much happens in the book that you feel like your on a rollercoaster but is well balanced as there are moments of conversation and development of characters that break in between the action to slow down one scene to then focus on another one.
Characters:
Dalinar Kholin: I love Dalinar! He is such a well developed character and I adored finding out about his life back in his youth and how much he has changed as the tyrant he was into the man he has become. His life was filled with sorrow and pain, but I found it all so intriguing as there was light in his life and I think this book really emphasises on the point that even though there is tragedy in one’s life there is also hope and the ability to carry on. I felt really sorry for the people in his life back in his youth and how his actions made them feel, yet still saw the good in him despite his bloodthirsty behaviour. Dalinar has been on journey of finding himself through his past and how his past has moulded him into the man he is today and how he has accepted the pain and his actions he did to carry on the journey he is still going on.
Kaladin Stormblessed: I love Kaladin! What I love about Kaladin is his ability to carry on and protect his people, especially Bridge Four. His determination is admirable and inspiring. I adore seeing him soar and be one with the sky and winds; it’s delightful seeing him feel content and smiling in the skies. His journey is incredible and seeing him come into this new power and the authority that has been given to him is amazing because he truly deserves it. Anytime he feels that he has failed or feel that a death is his fault breaks my heart because he burdens himself with every life with no consideration to his own as he wants to protect everyone. I loved Syl always being there for him and act as a constant being in his life; someone he can depend on and help him when he needs the help. I absolutely loved all the interactions with Bridge Four and how each one helps one another and Kaladin having people looking out for him and in turn he looks out and after them. Bridge Four is built on togetherness and hope; helping each other regardless of past doings and coming through it as together as a family.
Shallan Davar: I love Shallan! It’s heartbreaking to see her personality cracking and the layers coming undone as she has built up such a defence in her mind to warrant her past from leaking out and affecting her, yet the cracks have formed and it’s effecting her, making her confused and troubled. It’s clever how Sanderson intertwines the personalities making them appear completely different people as there are yet are one at the same time. I hope Shallan can talk about her past and can see her heal because she needs to confront things and not let it consume her, while also believing she deserves to be happy and to not blame herself or make her believe she deserved the wrongs in her life. I loved her quips and her ability to smile regardless of everything going on, even if it’s not so good to pretend all the time that’s everything is okay when sometimes it’s alright for things not to be. Her interactions with Kaladin are funny as they understand one another and know and can help each other, with the helps of puns. Her interactions with Adolin are so cute and I loved that he saw her, Shallan, not her other personalities and that he is someone who she can depend on and to ground her and bring her back to the real her not the ones she has created.
Adolin Kholin: I love Adolin! He is such a compassionate, loyal, loving character who wants to help in anyway he can and be there for the people he cares about. He doesn’t judge anyone regardless of their station or who they are and cares and protects those who need help. I love seeing his friendship grow with Kaladin and seeing them care for one another and Adolin knowing when something is up and tries to help him by getting Kaladin to talk and open up. I really loved seeing Adolin being vulnerable and appear uncertain because it showed that he isn’t always the confident, happy go lucky person he appears to be; that he does have vulnerabilities and does worry about his place in the world, especially with Shallan as she is a Radiant. I adored his interactions with Shallan as they are so cute and funny together. His ability to make her feel safe and grounded is adorable because he acts as a focus to her and someone who doesn’t judge but cares for her and to let her talk to him in her own time without pushing her into talking. I love how he knows the difference between Shallan and the other personalities, Veil and Radiant, and loves Shallan and brings her back to the present.
Honourable mentions:
Renarin Kholin: Love him! I feel so sorry for him yet love how he is embracing himself and finding his place in the world with the support from Bridge Four and his family.
Jasnah Kholin: I love her ability to stand up for herself and take no nonsense from anyone and embracing herself and her beliefs yet cares and fights for her family.
Navani Kholin: I really love the authority and the ability to take charge or situations and to remain care and collected in a logical yet protective way especially towards Dalinar and her family.
Evi Kholin: I felt so sorry for her and the life she has lead as she is a pure loving soul who only wants peace for the world and her family, yet circumstances made it not possible for her.
Bridge Four: I love all the members and it was really great hearing from some of their perspectives. They make me laugh and cry for them; both separately and together.
Elhokar Kholin: I loved how he accepted his mistakes and wanted to change them and make himself a better man for himself, the kingdom and his family.
Lift: I love her. She makes me laugh with her non-filter dialogue and how she says it how it is with no consideration to how the words appear to everyone else.
Szeth: I love seeing him grow and try to make up wrong doings by helping the people who need the help, even if he is plagued by his own thoughts and nightmares of his past.
Wit: I love Wit and how he comes up with silly stories that hold actual truths and tries to help people along the way with his odd way by speaking advice clouded in a mix of riddles and tales. I loved seeing him help Shallan and giving her hug, to just be there to let her cry and let her emotions and feelings come bare and give her advice to help and heal her.
Venli: I really liked seeing her perspective on the “enemy” side and how she feels about the treatment of her people and where she fits in in all the chaos of the war.
In conclusion, I loved Oathbringer because it rang with hope and the ability to change and be there for the people you love. Through the strength of love and togetherness. Brandon Sanderson is exceptional of creating a complex plot that doesn’t overpower or overshadow the characters and vice versa. The story and description is so detailed that it makes you believe you are actually there and living the world and the characters’s lives. Despite being over 1000 pages long I found myself wanting more and more because I never wanted it to end. Truly incredible!! 💕💕
No spoilers for the next book, Rhythm Of War, please. Thank you!
How I feel about the book. 👇👇 AMAZING!!! ♥️

SA5 and beyond character predictions and opinions: Kaladin
Decided to write this down now so I can laugh at it next year when the book is out.
Death possibility
I actually can't see this happening. For obvious reasons, he's been suicidal for big parts of the series and killing him would ruin all that previous work on keeping him alive. Especially if it's a sacrifice or last stand, since his entire character arc is currently based on coming to terms with not being able to save everyone.
2. Kowt thoughts
Kaladin is overall in somewhat of a weird place for kowt where despite being THE main character he's not directly involved in the main conflict. Like currently shallan is dealing with the ghostbloods and the cosmere at large, expanding the lore. And dalinar is the one who is about to battle the villain
I assume the ishar plot is going to be extremely relevant and intersect with the others. But for the longest time I assumed kaladin would be dalinars champion which would have put the two of them in what seems like THE big confrontation of the first arc. which almost makes me think the duel is not going to be as big of a deal as it seems. I also can't actually see him helping ishar that much in only 10 days. So in short I'm just really confused and hoping sanderson knows what he's doing
3. Presence in the back 5
As said I assume he is going to be around. But going a little controversial here for a second, I am fine with and almost find it necessary for him to have a significant decrease in povs going forward. Which is not saying that I don't love his character. I just think that if they try to keep up his 100k per book wordcount average there isn't going to be enough character arc left to tell unless significant changes happen to his circumstances, which to be fair is possible given how fucked roshar seems to be in tlm
4. Actual ideas
It's pretty predictable but I kinda like the idea of keeping up his whole inventing therapy thing, his story feels like its leaning away from combat and I think this is a really good and more healthy way for him to still be able to try and look after others and help them. Maybe act somewhat of a mentor to oroden and gavinor to keep him relevant, if that type of plotline can be done without feeling to cliche.
5. Possibilty of godhood?
Didn't even think about this until I saw someone suggest he would take up honor or become a herald. I'm not fond of this at all for actually the same reason I don't want him to die. Dude who is scared of losing people becoming immortal? That just seems like a punishment and he doesn't deserve that

Semi-coherent thoughts on Oathbringer
Tumblr media
So, overall probably the most even of the series so far, I’d say? Not to say I didn’t like it – I really, really loved the finale, and there were plenty of great lines, but my god were there a lot of pages spent on nothing happening (honestly it kind of reminded me of the latter volumes of ASOIF, in that sense) – then again, I suppose that is kind of just the nature of these 1000+ page fantasy epics. There were some setting reveals that really were fascinating, and legitimately a bit surprising. Going to have to take a break from the series until the friend I got Rhythm of War for is done so I can borrow it, though I suppose that’s no huge loss compared to the however many years everyone else had to wait in between them.
So in terms of pacing it’s...bad. Or, well, that’s probably a bit unfair. There’s absolutely plenty of fat to cute, but again I do think that might just come with the territory of committing to like a dozen POVs across a tree’s worth of paper (though there were absolutely like 100+ page stretches where I’m not actually sure the plot meaningfully progressed). That said, honestly the main pacing issue isn’t so much the bloat as, like – okay, Dalinar’s arc was a pretty consistent throughline, but for Kalidan and Shallan it kind of felt like there was one whole story in Urithiru, and then from the mission to Kholinar and the journey through the Cognitive Realm felt like its own separate novel? I mean, not sure if that makes any sense, but it really did kind of feel like there was a whole additional first act of table and stakes setting once they arrived in the city.
Though, to argue in favor of bloat for a moment – I was chatting with  @lifeattomsdiner bit back about The City We Became, and they mentioned that the size of the cast meant that you don’t actually really get to know any of the protagonists that well on their own. And I suppose that is the advantage of the 1200-page-per-volume epic cycle – even with characters you only really meet in interludes like Szeth, Vargo and Venli (incidentally three of my favorites), you spend enough pages inside of their head that you do really get to see what makes them tick and learn to love/hate them. Speaking of – props to Sanderson as an author, really – it’s vaguely astounding that he manages to keep track of that many internal monologues and actually make them seem distinct from each other.
Breaking things down by character a bit more – this book really did actually enjoy/get invested in Dalinar way more than either of the previous two, which again I’m told is more or less the expected reaction. Given the amount of tumblr brain poison I’m voluntarily exposed myself to, it’s honestly more than a bit of a nice change to see a character on a redemption arc who is actually unambiguously in need of redemption. Because holy shit, pulled, like, exactly two punches in terms of making the guy as genuinely loathsome as possible before he starts breaking. And, well, obviously he was on a redemption arc, but there was a bit near the end there where I really did think that the book was going to cut to black on an ‘end of Act 2, maximum darkness before dawn’ moment with, like, all the Skybreakers and him kneeling before Odium as the city fell. But I suppose that would be a bit much of a cliffhanger for a series with installments this weighty.
This was pretty clearly Shallan’s ‘getting over my personal bullshit’ book, like WoR was for Kaladin and WoK was for Dalinar, though spicing things up with increasingly severe DID as the book went on did make things more interesting at least. Also, I have no idea if this is actually true, but according to the friend who pestered me into reading these when someone asked Sanderson if he’d intentionally written her as bi he just kind of shrugged and said ‘sure, why not,’ which is fun. It was more than a bit, I don’t know, forced?, to have Wit just wander in from stage left and give her a desperately needed therapy session while she was in the middle of a breakdown and propel her development for most of the rest of the book, but on the other hand she’s pretty easily the main POV I’m most invested in by now, and the live triangle the text repeatedly threatened me with never actually became a thing, so I can’t really complain too much. Honestly super curious about the Ghostbloods and what they want out of her given, well, for a shadowy murderous conspiracy, everything they’ve wanted out of her so far has been pretty much entirely benign. Like, of the three major shadowy murderous conspiracies they’re easily the least problematic for the future of humanity at the moment. She should just commit and join for real imo.
As always, Kaladin’s POV is mostly good because it means we get more Syl, who is the single best character in the entire story I’ve decided. But also, I really quite liked his whole sojourn with the newly freed Parshmen and dawning realization that ‘wait these people are basically entirely right’. Also, the delicious delicious angst of spending however many dozens of pages getting to know them and then the wall guard and then the two groups killing each other in a confused melee while he has a mental breakdown. Easily best moment in the book (but then I’m a miserable person).
Adolin is honestly significantly more entertaining to follow than I really expected, though I’m still not like especially invested in him as a character. His relationship with his tailor was quite charming, though, as was the fact that he cares enough about fashion that he learned to sew. Honestly I was rather expecting/slightly dreading his main arc this book to be, like, inadequacy or insecurity over being almost literally the only member of his family that’s not a Radiant, so it’s kind of a pleasant surprise that he seems to have just accepted that (too well-adjust, I guess?). It is however extremely funny that the fact he just straight-up murdered one of the kingdom’s most important aristocrats and the major antagonist of the first two books seems to have resulted in absolutely zero consequences of any kind for him.
In terms of minor characters, the one I’m most invested in by a pretty substantial margin at this point is Venli, as she’s getting a front row seat to all the most interesting bits of the setting, ‘cultist growing increasingly disillusioned about return of ancient and terrible eldritch god’ is a really entertaining character arc just in principle, and because as of the end of the book she represents the morally objectively correct perspective and political line I’ve decided and will fight people about. Curious what sort of superpowers she’ll get. (Vargo and Szeth are still both great though, too).
The Unmade are really fun as a worldbuilding conceit/excuse for weird fucked up monsters. And it really is kind of funny that at least a third of the God of Evil’s nine generals/children/favoured beasts are, like, at conflicted or ambivalent about the whole ‘exterminate humanity and remake the world as a monument to my glory’ thing.
Really, on an extremely shallow and entirely aesthetic level, between the evil red crystal/lightning aesthetic, the remote mountain fortress as a stronghold of the heroes in the face of the coming apocalypse, tears into the realm of spirits, the quirky evil minibosses each handling corrupting/conquering a given center of civilization, etc, the whole thing kind of reminded me of Dragon Age Inquisition. Which reminded me of how disappointing the story to that game was, which made me like the book more by comparison, but anyway. Yeah, good book.

(stormlight anon) favorite moments: Jasnah hugging Renarin, the Szeth/Lift/Nightblood friendship, Shallan chugging the Horneater White, Maya coming to Adolin's aid, SHALLAN GOING TO THE TOP OF THE WALL WITH JASNAH'S HELP DON'T THINK I DIDN'T SEE THAT GIRL WHO LOOKED UP PARALLEL GOING ON THERE I LOVED THAT
So many amazing moments :D
I think despite loving Kaladin and Adolin the most as characters, Dalinar still has the best fucking standout moments in the books. In book 1 it was the moment he bought all the bridge slaves for the price of his shardblade and unhesitatingly calls it an excellent deal.
In book 3, I absolutely adore ‘You cannot have my pain!’ Because I just love that Dalinar’s whole story in book 3 is that he ran away from the awful things he did, and he wanted to forget, and he realized that just made him weaker and he didn’t learn anything. So instead he goes, ‘No, damn it, I’m going to own that shit, and I did do that, but I made myself better, I grew as a person, and you don’t get to take that away from me!!!’ To what is, for all intents and purposes, a fucking god. Like, wow. The balls on that guy. Also now he can be a stormlight battery so fuck yeah.
Kaladin is my favorite character and he has SO many great moments, but my favorites by far are him beating the ever-loving shit out of Amaram because that was a fight he absolutely deserved to get into and win, and also the fact that after the Moash incident he’s really confused and unsure and he doesn’t make his next oath. Because yeah, it’s okay if you need a little more time to come to grips with these huge, philosophical ideals you need to get your head around, and it’s okay not to push yourself so hard you break. Sometimes it’s ok to let other people save you too. And I think that’s a really good lesson in general, and also for Kaladin.
There are so many great characters getting more focus as well too, like Szeth and Lift. I love that Szeth has finally figured out how to follow his own path that he chooses. I adore that he’s friends with Nightblood. Nightblood, who is an amazing character in its own right. Also Vasher and Vienna’s cameos as well. And Wit’s. And...gah, there’s just so many good characters.
But honestly the stand-out character for this book for me was Adolin. He has so many moments that I adore in this book in particular and I can’t decide which one I love!!!
I love that he tries so hard to help even though he’s aware that compared to both Kaladin AND Shallan he’s the weakest one.
I love how he’s such a good big brother to Renarin in this in general, but I particularly love that conversation at the start of the book when Renarin gives back the shardblade. Because Adolin is just so supportive of his little brother, and he also completely understands that his brother thinks a little differently than everyone else and he’s just learned how to talk to and listen to Renarin in a way that doesn’t make this kid who is so scared about not fitting in feel out of place
I love that the moment he learns his girlfriend is actually a Knight Radiant he doesn’t throw a hissyfit about Alethi male vs female customs and instead he’s like IMMA TEACH MY GIRLFRIEND HOW TO SWORD FIGHT LIKE A BOSS and then he does
I adore that moment in Shadesmar when Kaladin is basically just having a Blue Screen of Death, hardcore dissociative moment in a PTSD/Depressive nosedive, and Adolin is just like, ‘it’s cool, this happens to warriors sometimes, I’ll look out for him,’ and then he absolutely does by just calmly leading Kaladin along while he’s not really all there and talking to him and keeping him centered. Like this is straight-up something out of a gorgeous whump fanfic and I fucking love that shit.
I love that he does that again for Shallan when she’s dealing with a severe mental breakdown and identity issues and he’s just like ‘hey, whatever you need, I’m here for you, even if that means you want to date somebody else or you want help with figuring out who you are or whatever else you need,’ like he just wants to help so badly and by just doing that he does.
I love that he’s so sympathetic and respectful of his shardblade even before she has an appearance and a name, and then he earns that name on his own and god I hope so badly he manages to heal her completely and discover a way to ‘revive’ the dead spren because they deserve it and Maya deserves it aaah
And I just adore the fact that they’re on a potentially deadly mission but he’s desperate to check in with his tailor and catch up on the latest fashions because he’s months out of date fashion-wise, the horror?????? (I still laugh when thinking about that one scene when Kaladin’s talking to a bunch of lowbie soldiers and they’re all making fun of Adolin off to the side for being a fancy-pants and Kaladin’s thinking to himself, ‘He could absolutely wreck every single one of you without breaking into a sweat’)
This book made me love Adolin he has so many good character moments that aren’t at all about him beating the shit out of things...which is hilarious since that’s his Calling, literally

okay i can feel marginally more settled dalinar au starting to take up brainspace so ive a question. do Everyones Guys adolin & renarin exist here. like theres interesting things to be done with the plot if they dont and theres also interesting things to be done if they exist but theyre like. someone elses kids? anyways im interested in the thoughts
THEY DEFFO EXIST I just haven’t figured out Exactly how they’re different though because it would involve ocs…. Basically Evi still went to the Kholin highprince for a political marriage of protection it’s just that the Kholin highprince was a completely different guy. So Adolin and Renarin still have a similar upbringing and stuff but Evi doesn’t get fucking killed to death. Ideas:
-Kaves has somehow used a Ponzi scheme to take over the throne and she marries Kaves and they are confused by each other but delighted with each other (funniest option by far but also very implausible 😔)
-but if not that:
-I think it would be really neat if Unnamed Highprince were also autistic but managed to pull it off because he’s still physically healthy and his special interest is like. shardblades. so everyone is like look at this knowledgeable pinnacle of Vorin masculinity. Autism be damned my boy can murder.
-I think Evi would still sort of have the “Alethkar is such a violent place and I feel so out of place :(“ feels but like Unnamed Highprince also feels out of place just for different reasons so they bond with each other about that. I think they both have a Shared List ™ of Alethi social norms that make No Fucking Sense
-I think Adolin and Renarin grow up as a couple of kids who nobody really thinks about because like people look at the Kholin highprincedom as like oh these guys have no fucking idea what they’re doing -_-
-and I think Adolin specifically really resents that. Like he figures out pretty quickly that people do Not respect his immediate family and that everyone talks about how secretly Navani has got to be running everything and that makes him so frustrated like he’s a nice guy but by god he is going to throw rocks at sooooo many people. Like I think that’s the main difference between him and canon Adolin is that this Adolin has even more Righteous Hate in his heart than canon Adolin. Like >:) i think he’s mysteriously murdered a handful of other people in addition to Sadeas in his life but nobody can prove anything
-Adolin specifically would be like. You know how the fandom at large tends to reduce Adolin to friendly sunshine airhead even though he also has chomp and bite killing violence sorts of moments? I think gunkverse Adolin would have the opposite thing going on where people would be like oh he’s edgy he’s killing some guys he’s brooding he’s emo completely overlooking that he gives great hugs and likes to make friends more than enemies if he can help it
-Renarin is having the time of his goddamn life being supported and loved :)
-I think that not only would the shardblades-are-deadeyes thing get discovered a lot sooner, I think Adolin and his dad would have matching sword besties bonds
-there are probably more thoughts to have but I am not good at thinking them right now

Rhythm of War spoilers! Reactions to / thoughts about Rhythm of War Part 2.
Chapter 20 The Unseen Court
I always like Nazh's maps and annotations! He complains about his work a lot but he also sounds like a thrill-seeker.
Nohadon's stairways? Does this mean Nohadon traveled in Shadesmar? I always assumed his travel described in Way of Kings was solidly in the physical realm. Silly me and my assumptions shaping my interpretations of everything.
If this map of Shadesmar is to scale, Adolin&Shallon could have gone just as easily to Azimir Oathgate as they did to the coast.
Well hello there Sazed.
A Veden vakama appears, as if takama wasnt confusing enough already.
Pattern is the original! There are many Patterns but this one is the first.
Veil trying to lie to Radiant, Radiant changing her mind. What is going on in Shallan's mind?
Chapter 21 The Seething Knot
Adolin adapted his glyph to Maya's shape. I like it!
Pattern has a relationship with Wit? Sweet!
Kaladin ponytail! I've had my eyes peeled for that one. I know a lot of fan arts show him with one but now it's canon.
Ahahahaha Kaladin didn't know what was happening until Adolin said it. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of Shard, surgebinding powers, and land must be in want of a wife. Kaladin the most eligible bachelor. Adolin's passed on the baton.
"War is the last option of the state that has failed, but it is better than having no options." Adolin isn't reading it, he's reciting it from memory. You watch. If you see Kaladin quoting this later, it's because he memorized it too. From hearing it one time. You smart, smart boys.
Gallant has rainbow in his blue eyes. Are the Ryshadiym invested with Iridescent Tones too? This stuff is just popping up everywhere.
Shouldn't Jasnah, as Elsecaller, be the prime negotiator/ambadassador between humans and spren? Well...I guess it's good that she knows how to delegate...
This whole conversation between Dalinar and Adolin. So much hurt. I want Adolin to be his own person. Dalinar, could you try being a little less controlling and self-focused for once? Can't you let him make his own steps and choose and live his own journey? If you keep this up I'm gonna have to boot you off of  being my most favorite character.
Everyone stop telling Adolin he needs to become Radiant. They probably mean well, but it implies he's somehow lacking. Not-Radiant people are people too.
Chapter 22 No Use Talking
The transfer between physical realm and Shadesmar has become possible because Stormfather overrode Sibling. Which of the other oathgate spren listened?
Crystal masks on mist spren... There was a color illustration, one of the endpapers in Oathbringer, of a woman holding a mask and several more at her feet. Related in any way?
Maya being compared to a painting... I'm probably just reading too much into it.
Peakspren! Finally, a name for the rock-with-glowing-cracks spren.
Why does Gallant have a shadow like someone who had a soul stapled back to their body?
So, knowing there was a good chance that Plates won't make the transfer, did Adolin maybe pack a regular non-Shard armor by any chance? No? Sigh. At least it's even, since nobody else in Shadesmar have Blade and Plate either. Well, almost nobody.
Deadeye spren can be "trained?" No, sir, this is Maya and she is very Special.
Chapter 23 Binding Wounds
Jasnah is soulcasting medicine (or its ingredients)! Practical AND awesome.
Teft has been clean for six months! Everyone clap for Teft please.
Teft, you wonderful emotional support sergeant. This is true friendship that transcends everything. Your faults, failures don't matter. Your age difference doesn't matter and you see each other as equals. You just care about each other and are there for one another.
Chapter 25 Full of Awe
"Radiant felt an immediate stab of guilt." Has Radiant seized control before, and Shallan not notice or remember? Or maybe Radiant has manipulated who gets to be in control when.
Is Ba-Ado-Mishram Odium's mini-me? I'll guess Ba-Ado-Mishram controls connection or identity...
"hilarious." It's extra bad because Adolin is illiterate.
Adolin and Shallan are so good for each other!
Chapter 25 Devotary of Mercy
I am surprised to hear Kaladin got over being lighteyes ages ago. That used to be really a thing for him.
Why does this ardent have glasses and never use them? Highly suspicious. Of what, I don't know.
" 'I've felt it,' Kaladin said. 'Feel it most days.' "
Syl studying Noril like he's a grand painting. Should I keep paying attention to the painting similies?
Chapter 26 A Little Espionage
The idea of Pattern as a brave and famous explorer scholar amuses me.
Dark hair, tan skin, sleeveless top, long gloves. For a moment there I imagined Beryl as Korra.
Jasnah might not know everything? Jasnah could be wrong?
Why is Shallan's Formless a he? What is she hiding? Shallan couldn't be a kandra, because she's a lightweaver... UNLESS! Someone killed Shallan with a hemalurgic spike and then embedded the spike in a kandra, who also ate Shallan's body?!?!
Is Vathah a kandra? That would explain his beard. Everyone's a suspect.
I'll bet that if you peeked at the Azish soulcaster that's famous for making bronze, you'd see a Reacher spren (who have bronze skin).
I wish Shallan could be well and be just herself, but I'm also starting to think that may never happen perfectly. She could get better, but still need to manage and deal with her personalities for the rest of her life. Like Kaladin and depression.
Chapter 27 Banners
I am shocked, SHOCKED that little Gavinor is following Dalinar to war. He's too young!
Kaladin and Jasnah can commiserate over Wit's lack of answers to their questions.
Dalinar and Navani hug. I remember ab Dalinar-Evi hug in similar circumstances. I guess the man hasn't changed in that regard. Navani and Jasnah hug. The most awkward hug ever. I love it.
Poor Roion. Two books after his death, and all we hear is that his son's not doing a great job at being a highprince.
I have wondered before why Palona won't marry Sebarial. Is it a personal reason (like she is against marriage), or a cultural reason (like Sebarial's somehow not qualified) or a legal reason (like she was married and her country didn't allow remarriage) or something else (like she's a kandra)?
And here is Navani, left to run a kingdom for her husband AGAIN. I get that somebody needs to do it, and she is very good, and she really may be the best person for the job. But this is not what she wants to do. She wants to spend time with her family and study fabrials. What wonders Navani could make happen if she were to commit wholeheartedly to what she loves. The world is missing out.
And inside the model is another model. It's models all the way down.
Chapter 28 Heresies
Their standard ink color is violet!
Is Kalami okay? I want her to be okay. She's been through a lot.
Chapter 29 A Cage Without Bars
Ashspren look so coooool.
Chapter title reminds of "Whitespine Uncaged" in Words of Radiance. It tells me I should expect a duel.
Who did Sazed send? Kelsier? Marsh? A kandra? A Feruchemist?
Adolin likes new stuff. Reminds me of when I used to think Adolin will become a Willshaper.
There was a "more perfect" gemstone, or at least one that held its light longer than others. Adolin brought a ruby mark to Shallan in Oathbringer (chapter 21) back when Highstorms were irregular and all other spheres were dun.
Mraize is using a Seon isn't he! It's a Seon inside that cube!
An Inkspren and his deadeye Cryptic friend. So that's definitely two different kinds of spren. Why was Pattern mistaken for an Inkspren befote? (In the port town in Shadesmar, a ship got burned down for having evidence of harboring "two or three humans, one honorspren, and one inkspren." Oathbringer chapter 102)
Chapter 30 Betrayal
How had Shallan come across a Seon before? If Formless emerges, will Shallan remember? Young Shallan sometimes blanked out in flashback chapters; will Shallan eventually regain memories of what she was doing/thinking during those times?
Recreance caused eight genocides. Highspren and Bondsmiths' spren survived.
Chapter 31 Daughter of Traitors
"Adhesion is not a surge, but a lie that was presented to us as one." That explains which of the 10 surges the Voidbringers are missing. Why is Adhesion not a surge?
Raboniel is saying Radiant surges are externally focused, while Voidbringer surges are internally focused. Like allomantic metals?
"Each answer seemed to give rise to a dozen new questions" That's Cosmere for you, Venli.
Chapter 32 Of Three Minds
A Stoneward can make clothing into weapons. That sounds cool. It's not all about rocks, I see.
Beryl can change only her own appearance. That sounds so like a kandra.
Chapter 33 Understanding
I'm glad Kaladin is helping people. More than that, I'm glad Kaladin is able to talk about himself and his problems.
Shallan is hiding right next to Formless. That's not good.
Chapter 34 A Flame Never Extinguished
Boots again.
Spren ride spren horse. The spren horse has no mouth, which makes sense because it doesn't eat. I wonder if the Ryshadium or regular horses imagined them up. If that's the case, there were no horse spren on Roshar prior to human arrival.
"the only smoke is on his eyes" what a scary description. That's what eyes do when you get killed by a Blade. They smoke.
Adolin brought Shallan out of her shell. So beautiful.
Starsprem posed for Shallan! Double funny because posing is not necessary for Shallan and it's a common mistake people keep making.
Adolin you wonderful sword nerd.
That was an incredibly tender and vulnerable moment between Shallan and Adolin. You might say she or he is not ready for a relationship, or not fit for commitment and stability, but these two are good for each other.
Shallan and Adolin kiss number 1.
Chapter 35 The Strength of a Soldier
AAAAAAAA Adolin don't die please don't die don't die don't die AAAAAAA no no no no NO NO NO ADOLIN!!!
Chapter 36 The Price of Honor
Somebody should gather the corpses and... Burn them or something... Except nobody can spare the fuel for cremation. Can't bury the bodies in obsidian, either. Er, compost them maybe? Would that even work? Sweeo the bodies into the bead ocean?
Pattern as a spy. Truly SHOCKING. The utter loss of trust! I guess that either Pattern was talking to Mraize to get information about Shallan's past, or Pattern was using the Seon to contact Hoid.
If I thought Notum was stiff and stuffy before, he's downright friendly compared to the spren at Lasting Integrity.
Chapter 37 Silence From the Dead
We're shifting point of views all over the place as if we've entered the Sanderson Avalanche already.
Flying gauntlet sounds like something straight out of a super hero story.
Why is Dabbid? How?
Ralkalest. I think that's what aluminum is called in Emperor's Soul.
Kaladin sitting on the floor, stacking blocks for Oroden to knock over. And smiling. So sweet.
Kaladin made Lirin admit that Kaladin is one of "them." This is very meaningful to me.
"for Ado's sake" sounds like the Fused use Adonalsium's name like a swear word.
Chapter 38 Rhythm of the Terrors
I still have no clue what was up with that dark mystery sphere.
The way people look at Rlain. Ouch.
Kaladin, don't ever think 'I shouldn't ask for help because I'm not as badly off as this person, or have more help than that person, or have it better than some other situation.' It's a trap. A bad, bad trap.
Chapter 39 Invasion
So the Sibling had only been playing dead all this time.
It sure is plotfully convenient that Kaladin has a non-Radiant non-squire trustworthy friend...*GASP* Rlain is going to bind a spren that's not a honorspren, isn't he! That's why he hasn't become a Windrunner squire and also why he's not on the kickstarter poster. I don't know which spren he'll bond, but it'll be AWESOME.
Chapter 40 In For All
Are there Windrunners other than Teft in the tower? I'm curious to know, to compare how Windrunner are doing against other Radiants, because Windrunner have access to the"fake" surge of Adhesion. I'll guess Kaladin hasn't passed out because he's really close to swearing his next ideal.
Chapter 41 The Most Dangerous
Personal rhythms. How special. Odium made Raboniel her own mixtape.
I don't want to imagine what kind of mad science experiments Raboniel intend to do on Radiants.
Ugh is this Moash is using Jezrien's honorblade to work the Oathgates.
Chapter 42 Armor and Teeth
Sound affects stormlight. If a specific tone can make a gem drain its light, I bet there's another tone that can make it keep its light.
Here is a fabrial that even Sibling is okay with using. That might mean there are ways to make a fabrial without trapping spren in a gem.
I was so hoping Teofil and his soldiers would make it. Their fight down the steps was astounding.
I think the Sibling can "watch" the tower where Radiants are. Maybe. 6th floor would be Kaladin, place with the Lady of Pains would be Venli, and the 4th floor with a cage is...uh...dunno.
Aha! Raboniel still thinks Sibling is sleeping. Nope, Sibling is only pretending.
Now Navani can retire and do science. Sadness.
Chapter 43 Men and Monsters
"My head can't be trusted sometimes." I know. And emotions and passions can't always be trusted either.
Some of what Lirin says makes sense, but I cannot agree with him 100%. People can and should try their best where they are, I get that. But I won't say people shouldn't fight against the crime against humanity that is slavery. I don't know if Kaladin is making the right choice. I don't know what to think.
In previous books, Kaladin has been trying to protect more and more people- Bridge Four, all the bridgemen, Dalinar, Kholins, Elhokar,  Singers, all of Kholinar... And now he reduces his focus drastically to just Teft.
The invasion of Urithiru had actually happened. Wow. I thought that was going to be the big thing that happens over the course of the whole book, but it already happened and it's only part 2. What was left to write after this, Mr. Sanderson?
Hey, how come there's been no flashback chapters so far?

also hey, with the State of the Sanderson just coming out I’d like to inform everyone that JMS, who is collabing on Dark One, is my favorite author besides Brandon.
You may know him from Sense8! You may know him from his work in comics (doing Spider-man, Thor, Superman, etc) or even his cameo in the Thor movie!
But here’s what I’d like to suggest to you all to help tide you over until SA4:
I’d like to suggest you watch his magnum opus, the show that invented the modern tv landscape: Babylon Five
The plot structure will seem familiar to you. To cite TVTropes: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WhamEpisode The term was coined by J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5, which is very liberally sprinkled with them.  (In other words, instead of one Sanderlanche per book? TVTropes lists three or four a season.)
This is the show that invented tv shows having a single long plot. This is the show that invented creators having a fandom presence. And now, let me actually summarize it:
High fantasy (IN SPACE) plus space politics (WITH FANTASY!)
In the aftermath of a war with space elves in which humanity nearly went extinct, humans decide we need a Space UN. Fortunate for them, as the ancient evils are returning. What follows includes
A tragedy of space antivaxxers
The first officer bluffs Clthulu and wins
Two men pretend to be fake married in the 90s and the only issue is that one of them won’t stop singing The Major General’s Song
A teddy bear is thrown into space
Green must fight purple. Purple must fight green.
“Trapped in an elevator together!” featuring the creepiest song about a fish you’ll ever hear
A righteous beatdown to gospel music
King Arthur
imperialism!
earth falling to fascism!
telepaths as an oppressed class enslaved by the government or Worse!
aliens being deeply confused by the Hokey Pokey
an alien elf princess saying ‘butt’ a lot
onscreen tentacle dicks I am not exaggerating a lot of these are veiled to avoid spoilers but there are tentacles, they are dicks, and they are onscreen
STARRING:
Traumatized war hero who says fuck fascism, go unions
All-American man who’s beauty, he’s grace, he punches fascists in the face
Susan Ivanova, Death Incarnate, Russian Jewish bisexual who can kick anyone’s ass, can kick your dog’s ass, can kick her own ass. She is very tired
Asshole cop who you’ll root for anyway
An imperialist bastard you’ll root for anyway
Space Dalinar (+Slutty)
An elf princess who turns into a butterfly
a doctor who’s just a little too passionate about his job
Perky Aragorn
Sofd boy attaches + one Angery Gorl attache
Kosh.
