Fun little silly thought I had about the Lair Games and specifically Leo deliberately losing is all the reasons he could have for doing so.
My favorite headcanon for his main motivation is that Splinter wasn’t proud of him anymore.
I imagine that, in the beginning, winning the Lair Games was Leo’s opportunity to shine. He wasn’t artistic or the baby of the family like Mikey, wasn’t a tech genius who created amazing inventions like Donnie, wasn’t the eldest who was insanely strong and dependable like Raph. So he had to shine somewhere else- anywhere else- and what better way to get attention than to be a winner? A champion?
And then he won too much. And it wasn’t special anymore. He got too big headed, too cocky, he knew this was his element and he ran with it.
Splinter’s words of congratulations slowly petered out. Suddenly, there was no real reason to win.
Winning feels empty when the only one cheering you on is yourself.
So- Leo schemed. And he’s a great schemer, fooling his whole family (and Donnie did deserve a win- people were way happier when he won.)
He even gave up his prized possession! His room!
Though he knows his brothers probably think it’s a bad prize. A terrible one, even.
Leo doesn’t sleep much as is, though. So Dad’s snores were more comforting than anything. It was reassuring to hear him so clearly alive and close by.
Even if the distance between them was larger than Leo’d like.
He’d just have to find something else, something more to show his dad that Leo was someone to trust, to be proud of, to love.
He gets his chance soon after, when he needs to pull off a plan against Big Mama at his dad’s side. Leo can only hope this victory is one that has a lasting effect when his father looks at him with pride once more.
Victory, for Leo, is a pretty loaded term.

Bdkzhakana I did something I did something
There will be a digital version of this, probably by tomorrow, but I've spent too much time on Mikey's eyes and arm and have lost my will to live because of it qwq so tomorrow✨️
I actually wanted to go over this with black pencil or create the Hamato symbol but I'm afraid of ruining it :,D
A scene out of the last chapter of my story, The Wrong Side of the Portal!
~~~~~~~
Leo blinked.
Mikey stared back.
"...Mikey?"
"...Hm." he groaned, shifting just a little to get more comfortable, unable to do so properly because Leo was sitting on his legs. "...Wha...? Leo...?" He winced. His voice sounded rough.
The older one blinked again.
...Mikey.
Woke up.
Just like that.
His baby brother. Who had been in a coma two seconds earlier, had woken up.
But why did-
Mikey had always been a family person.
"..." Leo looked down at his ninpo. Then at Mikey's.
...Oh.
Ooooh.
Leo snorted- because even if he still couldn't feel Donnie, he could finally feel the youngest- his ninpo expressing the concern, care, and love he had trouble showing as the box turtle was trying to figure out what the heck was going on, squinting his eyes and smacking his lips. Then he looked down at their hands. At their pinkies.
The four, beautiful dots in front of him. And smiled with relief. He made no effort to remove his hand as he slumped back.
Seems like Leo's theory had been right after all. He giggled, then burst out laughing.
But then that smile fell. The laughs turned into shuddering breaths as he covered his mouth. Not those heartbreaking sobs from before, but silent tears of relief.
Leave it to Mikey to wake up because of fucking family magic or whatever the heck their ninpo was.
Stuttery hands reached for his own- Leo noted the scars had responded to his ninpo as well- allowing Mikey to see the absolute mess he was in. "Why you cryin'...?" He slurred, attempting to brush the tears away. Before he gave up. And instead let his hand rest on Leo's. "Whas... what's wrong?"
"You-" he laughed wetly because the fact the nunchuck-wielder was worried about Leo after waking up from a fucking coma was so Mikey-like the slider could weep again. Though maybe he shouldn't, he was acting like a crybaby.
Well. This time he had a good excuse.
"Nothing, Michael." He murmured with a smile, putting Mikey's hands down and cupping his face lovingly, then reaching down to gently bump their heads together with a soft churr. "Nothing at all."
“Chase, you all left and it was never the same.”
Ten months ago now, I downloaded Echo and started Leo’s route. I was not prepared for how much it would utterly break me and how much this game would remain lodged in my brain ever since.
So it was only a matter of time before I drew the troubled wolf boi himself, Leo Alvarez.
One of my favorite things to do while watching the rottmnt movie is spot all the times Leo weighs his options, goes for it, and regrets it- like this
Thinks about it
Goes for it
Regret
Thinks about it
Goes for it
Regret
Thinks about it
Goes for it
No Regrets
No wonder he doubts himself and thinks they’d be okay/better without him- most decisions he makes in the movie end in setbacks at best, and his brothers being hurt/the world ending at worst! I know they ALL need extensive therapy after all this but like…. DAMN Leo’s gonna some serious self worth issues after this (if he didn’t already)
Someone on tiktok said it best, “imagine never being able to live up to the version of yourself that ended the world” - that line haunts me to this day, you KNOW that’s how Leo looks at himself now- the guy that came in second place to a version of himself that ended the world and got his brothers killed.
I still have 2 more prominent examples but tumblr only allows 10 pics per post so I’ll have to reblog it.
Hey y'all I was recommended a video on Leo and as I was watching it and it came to this one scene from the 2012 series where the boys were cornering Stockman and Leo said:
"Halt villain-!"
In this cheesy superhero kind of way and it like hit me how actually young and carefree he was and then tHE TRAUMATIC EVENTS OF HIS LIFE HAPPENED AND HE NEVER DID STUFF LIKE THAT ANYMORE AND HIS BROTHERS PROBABLY MISS THOSE DORKY MOMENTS AND HIS INNOCENCE BASICALLY DIED AND I'M NOW OFFICIALLY SOBBING FUCK-
