On the topic of hormones, the people who say that women, notably, are inherently weaker or less competent/competitive than men (especially physically) because of their estrogen are the same types of people to have said that women shouldn't run or ride trains because their uteruses would fly out of their bodies.

maybe it's just how I deal with cognitive dissonance but I do think "media thing has a lot that can be enjoyed and picked apart and analyzed and you can really see what the artists involved put into that and you can acknowledge what the artists put into it and that some of the messages are things that need to be said and heard and encouraged"
and "corporations will always find a way to use those artists to sanitize the artists message and it's impossible to have a successful Content and you can't project a good piece of content as meaning that the big corporation is Good, because the big corporation will use art to get your money and doesn't believe in anything"
Are ideas that can be held at the same time and both deserve discussion to figure out this shitty part of our culture.
I don't think "ugh X isn't good and people who like it are annoying and falling for the con" is a productive argument but I also don't think "um people can enjoy things and any criticism means you don't think they should enjoy things and everything about this IS good actually" is productive. I'm not smart enough to know how to fix how our capitalist culture has turned art and culture into a commodity, but I don't think the individual people getting shaped by culture is where the ire needs to go, and I also think it's important to on some level be aware that corporations will always find a way to make money off of artists and sell it to you.

I think terfs are a really good example of the whole "far right people can believe seemingly contradictory things without a shred of self-awareness" given that they simultaneously believe women are inherently better than men AND that it's absolutely 100% impossible for a woman to beat a man in any competition at all bcs apparently we just naturally suck at everything.

Not to post Grease on main but when the Rise of the Pink Ladies series had Buddy, a privileged guy with good intentions, repeatedly have the opportunity to give up his own advantages and dismantle the system he claims to oppose, only to chicken out every single time because at the end of the day he prioritizes his own comfort and ease over justice, slowly sending him down a path of becoming more and more of a dipshit..
idk I just can't think of another time I've seen those kinds of characters called out for being assholes. Like every sexist character is cold, unfeeling, and clearly the villain. But here's a guy who believes he's progressive, and manages to convince others as well as himself that he respects women, and when he discovers his own privilege knows that it's wrong, but when it really matters still keeps his mouth shut. Feels like vindication, seeing this type of antagonist I encounter so much in real life portrayed as the creepy coward he is. So glad the series put their foot down and said no matter your virtue signaling, if you won't give up your unfair advantages for the sake of the minority then you don't actually want justice. get fucked lol

I think the most accurate gender descriptors for the doctor and the master is agender and genderfluid respectfully
I think the doctor doesn't really care about gender, just doesn't think about it much at all. Even when theyre a man they dont necessarily see themselves as a man, even if they know others do. They were excited about being a woman purely because it was something new, although I think they became somewhat less excited when they realise the way people's perception of them changes because of it lol
The master on the other hand loves gender. It's another disguise, another performance and they throw everything into it. I think they really enjoyed being Missy and playing into womanhood, but I think part of what she loved about being a woman was making people not perceive her differently. She was just as terrifying and evil as any man. Where the doctor sort of "plays along" to keep the peace, missy would just straight up murder anyone who thought less of her

I did not think that I would spend this weekend binge watching Warrior Nun with my 80 year old catholic Grandmother, yet here we are.
