1/n Funnily enough, I have also usually associated Sergio with an owl, (or a lone wolf, as Raquel calls him) but look what i found! I just searched up owls & snakes cause I vaguely remembered reading a story abt them and there are some very interesting results XD So owls usually hunt and bring back prey for their owlets, usually making sure the prey is *dead* but there's one strange exception - they leave blind snakes alive when they bring them back to the nest. Now sometimes the snakes are eaten right away as a nice little snack (they're apparently the size of a worm?) but sometimes, the snake survives and burrows into the nest, out of sight and out of beak. And there, they actually find food like ants, termites and other critters which might otherwise be parasites to the owl chicks. There was even a study which found that baby owls living with these snake roommates tended to grow faster AND had better chances of survival. I shall quote the article "The snakes being brought to the nest alive wasn't simply an accident - they were acting as tiny, unwitting parenting aides!" And yes, this is a very interesting case of symbiosis in the wild, mutualism, or even something called "a commensal relationship" which is basically one species benefitting and the other has to simply deal with the situation, in this case the owl benefits and the snake has to survive, not exactly "benefitting" from this.

n/n Well, all this is just to say that reading the articles gave me hermanos wild animals au(?) feels 😭 bby!owl sergio and teen snake andrés literally plucked from his life and dropped in to help take care of sergio by papa owl marquina, who dies during a hunting trip and leaves behind sergio & andrés, who then grow up together as a weird, wild found family. And i also remember that one time you said someth special abt the hermanos was that they didn't HAVE to stick together, that Andrés could have easily been the villain in Sergio's life but he didn't and that fits well here too, snakes & owls are not exactly friendly species, and if Andrés was caught as prey and unceremoniously dropped into an owl nest it gives him even more reason to hate Sergio but i digress. anyway fhsjshs i hope i've managed to make some sense lmao, thjs is what boredom does to me 😅 feel free to ignore all this rambling and i'm so sorry if this wild tangent annoys you, i've just finished my exams and i'm in a silly mood 😭

I'd totally forgotten about the whole "owls eat snakes" thing, which is itself something of an incredible hermanos parallel. But the whole part about symbiosis with blind snakes who reluctantly become part of the owl nest and unofficial parents?? Blew my mind! There's not much of a benefit for the snakes here besides survival.

YES YES YES wild animals hermanos AU with adolescent snake Andres and baby owl Sergio :'D It somehow perfectly fits with the half-brother pedro/alvaro headcanon. Papa Marquina trying his best to feed his his weak owlet, Sergito, and then finds feral snake Andres. I guess this means Andres is blind in the AU, or something about him made Marquina think he wouldn't do anything to hurt the owlet. My heart, anon omg! And once Marquina dies, Andres has the chance to leave the nest (who's gonna stop him? that helpless little owl??), but chooses not to because the helpless little owl needs him :')

He has all the reason to hate Sergio in this, but he doesn't :'D "Weird, wild found family" is the perfect name for this AU <3

Bucky Barnes Fic Rec:

Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail by Owlet

Hey there! I made my first #fictok fic rec on TikTok, and I’m posting this as a companion to it. This fic is one of my favorites of all time. I put it on my Kindle so I can read it in the middle of the night when I’m feeling my feelings.

It’s mostly Bucky POV and really an ensemble piece, with a ton of canon faves (Flying Sam! Unlikeable Redhead!) and new original characters (The Olds). (There is also a cat.) I’d rate it PG, mostly Gen, but a little slashy (Steve/Bucky aka Stucky) at the end. Owlet’s Steve is just the best and most patient and loving and supportive Steve, and I am ruined for all men. The whole thing is wholesome and fairly chaste, but such a great sense of humor throughout. It’s very cathartic and healing and FUNNY.

It’s an canon-divergent AU in which Bucky’s mission of KILL was abruptly reset to PROTECT when Steve said what he said on the helicarrier.

Guess who he’s protecting? Guess!!! Yep. Steve. But also, and hear me out, he’s protecting himself. After decades of trauma being the Winter Soldier, he’s a husk of a person and barely has his own voice at first. He’s essentially just a mixed bag of directives and basic imperatives. He’s feral and empty and hurt. One of the ways that Bucky copes is by disassociating and thinking robotically. This can be a little off-putting at first because there’s a lot of “CONFIRM” and “DENY” language going on, which seems gimmicky at first. But ultimately, as Bucky regains his sense of self, the author subtly shifts the langage and tone to reflect this. By the end of the first reading, my own brain was thinking in these terms. Emotion identified: D’awwww! It’s an artfully written fic with many laughs, many feels, and seriously almost zero typos (I’m an editor and I notice these things).

There are three major chapters with a lot of one-shots and ephemera that add to the main story. I highly recommend reading it in order and reading all of it. There are also podfics and many fanarts attached, which is fun. There’s also an interview with the writer, @vmohlere, which is fascinating to me as a fic nerd.
