While I'm waiting to start Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, I just got it in my head that there's a few alternate reality changes that would be fun.

1. Zack survived, Cloud didn't

This would be interesting because you wouldn't have to change very much. Tifa could still have reached out to help someone she knew from five years ago. You could even do a bit of the amnesia thing and have him not remember Aerith, but she remembers him.

2. Jessie survived the pillar assault

They fleshed out her character enough in Remake to make me think this could be a fun dynamic. Plus if she was a playable character, every attack could be bomb related which would be neat.

3. Tifa didn't survive Nibelheim, Zangan joins you to get revenge

They didn't give us enough time with the character, but one of the things they established is that he is constantly traveling. It could have made for a fun optional character and you have to rely on him being a randomized NPC in whatever town you're at to be able to recruit him.

4. Dio joins you

I just think this one would be funny.

I bet there's a fic for all of these.

I was completely entranced by Bugenhagen's steampunk/alchemist atelier, so please enjoy these shots.

Presumably a visual reference to Jenova or Meteor on the chalkboard.

I like this lady hard at work in the background. I feel like she has a good life.

Some sort of Plesioaurish creature. Cloud may have gotten a headache from the heavy-handed symbolism of the previous shot.

Trying and failing to get a decent shot of Tifa in the green-blue lighting, so Cloud again.

At first I thought that might be a horse's skull, which got my hopes up because a) they never let horses (who aren't summons) be in FF and b) it would be ginormous. But the shape is wrong. Still, maybe someone should go and make sure Sleipnir is all right.

Finally, another nice little visual reference to Jenova or Meteor.
