Ukrainian Amulet Doll Motanka
An ancient part of our folk culture.
Made with a cross instead of a face because the spirit of an evil creature can fly through the eyes. Is a sacred object, symbolizing kindness and hope for a better future. She shouldn't resemble an existing person and have a name
Ukrainians makes it for protection house, people they loved, newborn, soldiers.

Nata Zhyzhchenko, the lead singer of Ukrainian electronic pop band Onuka
ONUKA’s unmistakable sound is a natural blend of Electronics, Modern Pop and Ukrainian Folk customs.
Nata Zhyzhchenko’s most prominent achievement might be intertwining Ukrainian vestige with electronic innovation and reacting to the occasions. Nata, the main lady of the band ONUKA, is one of the most brilliant pop social wonders of 21st century Ukraine. She is a performer able to do amicably mixing people customs with metropolitan sounds. She is an entertainer who additionally makes pictures and ideas as much she does melodies.
ONUKA, in a real sense signifies “granddaughter,” which is committed to Nata’s granddad, a man who gave as long as he can remember to making customary Ukrainian instruments. The bandura, sopilka and trembita are on the whole customary Ukrainian instruments that one can hear in the Ukrainian band’s music.

hello! i just found your blog and the amount of research you have about slavic folklore and faith is so cool. i look forward to going through it to learn more. do you have any recommendations for other blogs that post similar content (extra bonus if they post about south slavs specifically)?
Let me see.
For Slavic paganism and folklore you might enjoy Lamus Dworski, Slavicafire, Upyrica, Lug Velesa or Ruthenian-Knyaz though some of them don’t post on here anymore.
Additionally with less pagan setting you can find some wonderful Slavic folk dress, art and customs with Orisnitsa, Zvetenze, Eastern European Crafts, Polish Costumes or Vintage Ukraine.
Hope you have a good day!

Now and then a realization comes to me – how much of cultural identity, local customs and folklore was lost in Poland because of our history in the past century or so. I don’t mean the big and obvious things like our flag, language, our anthem and such. Those we as a nation managed to keep in over a century when Poland did not exist and those are not lost today.
I’m not a historian and I made no research on this matter, I’m just analysing what I see basing on the recent history I know and the example of my own family (and my environment). And what hit me recently is that I don’t have things like local customs characteristic to my town/area, or a traditional gear to recreate and wear on occasions. Yes, there are parts of Poland that still have those, like mountain folk or Kashubia. I work with a guy from the mountains and when he showed me some pics from his son’s christening, all the people wore traditional gears. I admit a part of me was a bit jealous, considering that I enjoy sewing and would gladly make an outfit for myself. Of course, I still could recreate one of the traditional outfits from across Poland, but – they mean nothing to me.
I feel like our situation after the WW2 is largely to blame. Poland was a very young country then, ruined after just 20 years of regained independence. The Russians forcefully moved people all over the country, mixing them for exactly this purpose – wiping out the cultural integrity, something Poland had not lost during the partitions time. Now I come from so called Recovered Teritorries, lands that were incorporated into Poland after WW2. People came there after the war from all sorts of places, either looking for a new start or having been forcefully relocated. Each of my grandparents came from completely different part of Poland, or even from terrains that are no longer Polish today.
And the result is – the parts of Poland I come from don’t have shared history longer than two-three generations. There are traditions within families, basing on what people had known. My mother had different traditions for Christmas or Easter than my father. In time they mixed of course, and of course there are some “general” traditions for Christmas etc, but then it shows in details that some came from specific places and are not widely known.
I don’t know if it is the forced mixing that did the trick, or if it was because the times after the war were simply too hard and why would you care about how your grandmother did Christmas or what she wore on official occasions, when you are a lone mother with three children, running away through half of the country to erase your past and conceal the fact you worked for Home Army (Armia Krajowa). Or when you were forced to live there far away from your family, because you had the misfortune of being forcefully taken into Wermacht and ended up as a prisoner? I guess if I asked my friends or my neighbours, they would likely share dozens of such stories.
In terms of family heritage – there is nothing older than two-three generations. The few precious oldest things I have is a wooden box from my gran, which she got from her father as a child. Or grandfather’s watch. Small items you were able to carry.
In a way, the events of the last two centuries made us (in some parts of Poland at least) a very young nation despite having a thousand years of history as a country. It’s not something I normally acknowledge, but now and then it just pops up. I guess I might have liked to put on a traditional outfit for Christmas or birthday, or perhaps for some patriotic event – and I would have liked it to be something historical and not a white-and-red tshirt like fans wear on sport events. I have none. It’s not a complaint or something that upsets me, but once I realized that, it’s hard not to see it.
I’m not even sure what was my point of writing it all down, since I guess no one will read that. But now as I finished writing, I can’t not think about our neighbours in Ukraine facing now the war and possible cultural erasure on parts of their lands. It’s been nine years already and it shows in the people I work with. I really hope they will not face similar fate.

subscription-based social media makes certain folks foam at the mouth, not just as a means to make a profit, but also to silence unwanted voices.
one thing that made Twitter so world-changing was the ability for regular folk from dirt-poor nations to be a part of the conversation.
events happening in the Middle East, South America, Taiwan, Ukraine, and other places could be updated in real time with instant photos and videos shared for the world.
here is America it’s sold as “only $8, that’s like a coffee.” but in countries where Twitter was *the most needed* due to poverty and government corruption, that $8 doesn’t translate into a coup of coffee, it’s much more costly in their nation’s currency
not to mention people in these countries often don’t have bank accounts, nor the ability to spend a day’s worth of groceries to feed their family on a Twitter feed.
but social media leaders win doubly. first they make money off wealthy westerners paying for subscriptions, and they gain favor with worldwide dictators by making social media less accessible to their citizens
I understand the need for a company to make a profit, at the very least the company must pay its bills of operation, it’s staff salaries, developers, as well as the cost of servers. having a paid option with bonuses such as ad-free or extra customization is smart, but social media services need to be free for all normal and basic function, if they are to survive and be a force for good in the world.
unfortunately, for this to happen the owners of such companies need the desire to be a force for good in the world, and I’m afraid profit alone is their goal.

Day Fifty-Five
The most serious- but powerful- part of my day today was APGOV. I'd invited Matt Gallagher join us on Google Meet to talk about his experiences as an American volunteer training civil defense forces in Ukraine, and as a writer traveling throughout the country. After quickly introducing himself, he let my students ask him anything, and, boy, did they. For over an hour, they discussed the war, its impact on civilian life, media and social media coverage, US foreign policy, military and humanitarian aid. It's heavy, but it's so important. I know my students appreciated being able to have such a serious, candid conversation.
I was also super proud that one of my Global Studies students joined them. Originally, a handful were going to, but the others ended up having a test today. This one still decided to come on her own, though, and I think that's awesome. The seniors were super kind, of course, but it's still intimidating to be a freshman in the room with them.
Meatime, in Global Studies, I taught a lesson on Confucianism and Taoism, which took more time than I'd anticipated, but only because I kept getting questions- which is a good thing! After fielding saif question, I gave students an assignment that asked them to identify which belief system- Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, or more than one- had influenced particular customs and traditions. A lot of my student told me they liked that assignment, so that's a win.
Clearly, I'm feeling pretty good about teaching because I had a good day, but a lot of my colleagues are really struggling.
I do understand why.
There are a lot of freshmen who are emotionally and academically unprepared for high school- more than usual- and even I get frustrated with them, at times. Like, they keep breaking pencils and throwing the pieces at each other, and, of course, that's wicked annoying. But, for me, that's usually the toughest thing I have to deal with in a day, whereas, for my colleagues, it's the last straw. I'm talking about those whose departments are understaffed, whose subjects are way more difficult to teach in the current ninth grade house schedule, who've got kids, spouses, other responsibilities, etc... outside of work, too.
My department's fully staffed, the Global Studies curriculum is malleable by design, and I don't have anything but my own life to worry about outside of work... It all honestly does make it easier for me to navigate this post-pandemic teaching world and all its challenges.
I don't know what to do for anyone else, though.
The admins are looking into schedule changes, but it's apparently easier said than done, which is just making some folks more frustrated. And it's not as if we can make qualified teachers (or paras, or custodians) magically appear to apply for the open positions, bring class sizes down, etc... I worry about folks burning out.

Dear Ukrainians! Unbreakable citizens of an unbreakable country!
Great people with a great history!
Conscientious society of the state guided by the rule of law!
The fact that all of the above is true is proved by many things.
Ancient documents and chronicles, historical and legal landmarks, religious traditions and folk customs, science, literature, music, painting, legends and myths, proverbs and sayings, and even news releases. All this in its own way depicts our state and all of us. But there is one thing that, in my opinion, gives the most detailed and objective assessment. This is the Constitution of Ukraine!
This is a point of development that we have reached as a state and society over the centuries of history. The government system is our intellect. The form of government shows whether we have moved to the next level of civilization or are stuck in an era of tyranny and dictatorship. The Constitution, like an X-ray, shows our strengths and weaknesses. Our principles, our values, our ideals. The level of freedom and rights that we are willing to defend. The level of maturity and responsibilities we are willing to fulfill. The norms of the Constitution make it possible to decipher the genetic code of our nation. Find the answer to two main questions: what is Ukraine and who are the Ukrainians?
This is our detailed portrait. And especially now, during a full-scale war, its main features are clearly visible. We passed the Basic Law of the state 26 years ago. 26 years later, defending our state is the basic law for us. Why? The answer is in the preamble of the Constitution. The principles of its adoption 26 years ago are the principles of our struggle now. They explain why and what we are fighting for. This is the right of the Ukrainian people to self-determination, the universally approved independence of Ukraine, the irreversibility of the path to Europe. This is the responsibility to God, to one's own conscience, to previous, present, and future generations.
We didn't start the war, we were not the first to shoot and we were not the first to attack. We defend Ukraine, which is a sovereign, independent, democratic, social and legal state. Taking up arms, we did not hesitate, as at a crossroads. We did not choose whether to defend the first article of the Constitution or to adhere to the first commandment of God. God is on our side, he says that defending your home from evil is not a sin. It is a sin not to defend it.
Our sovereignty extends to the entire territory. We are a unitary state. Our territory within the existing borders is integral and inviolable. That is why in the east and west, in the south, in the north and in the center, our people are heroically fighting for these principles and for the second article of our Constitution. Repelling the second army of the world.
Which is indifferent to all the threats and risks of World War III. But we are not indifferent to the norms of the third article of the Constitution. A person, a person's life and health, honor and dignity, inviolability and security are the highest social values. And our people are defending this principle at the cost of their lives, health and security. With honor and dignity!
The norm for us is to protect it. The norm for us is to protect other norms.
Land is the main national wealth. Its subsoil, air, water and other natural resources of its territory, continental shelf and sea zone are the property of the Ukrainian people. We will fight for every meter of our land to the last breath.
Because only the people can change the constitutional order in Ukraine. No one can usurp state power. We know the term "democracy" well, so we don't know what the fifth term is. Our right to protest, assembly and manifestation is a constitutional article, and for others it is a criminal one.
State symbols are not symbolic or formal for us. Our state flag is a flag made of blue and yellow stripes. Two sacred colors. The third is not given. As it is not allowed for a foreign tricolor to hoist over our land, in our sky in any way different than with the prefix "temporarily".
Our coat of arms is a sign of the Princely State of Volodymyr the Great. This is a trident. Not two-headed birds. Because this is not going to fly here.
Our National Anthem "The glory and freedom of Ukraine has not yet perished…" They live and will live on. Our people in the occupied cities are not afraid to go to peaceful rallies and sing their anthem. Sing out loud. Looking into the eyes of the occupier, sing that they will vanish like the dew in the sun. This nation cannot be defeated! Only exterminated. But even this is impossible. Because we are of Cossack descent!
And our state language is Ukrainian. And we respect all other languages. We do not oppress any of them. That is why today people are fighting for Ukraine in Ukrainian, Crimean Tatar, Polish, Russian, Belarusian, Moldovan, Hungarian, Romanian, Georgian and many other languages! Because it is clear without words what evil is. And you can beat it without words.
The occupier expected a warm welcome, but faced fierce resistance. Meeting not with bread and salt, but with "Stugna" and "Javelin", "Bayraktar" and "Neptune", "Vilkha" and "HIMARS".
Our resistance has lasted for 125 days already. For the world it is the eighth miracle, for the enemy it is the ninth wave, and for us it is the seventeenth article of the Constitution of Ukraine. The defense of Ukraine is the most important function of the state and the matter of the entire Ukrainian people.
We have no choice but to defend our choice. It is our obligation to protect our rights. Rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
An inalienable right to life that Russia has violated tens of thousands of times and claimed tens of thousands of lives. It is the inviolability of home, which is violated every day and night by its missiles, bombs and bullets.
These are rights that are familiar and inalienable to us. This is freedom of speech. That is why Ukrainians are not afraid to tell the enemy "go home." Because they have freedom of thought. They know how to think, see, hear, understand, distinguish truth from lies. This is the right to vote and to be elected. Impossibility to be arrested for nothing. Freedom of movement. Immunity. These are all children's rights.
We are fighting for all this today. To defend, liberate and restore. For our future generations to have rights, our generation has no right to give up. We do not have such a desire either. The enemy will not be able to realize the force with which we are ready to fight for our rights and freedoms. He who does not have it himself will never deprive others of it. That is why victory is inevitable for us. Punishment is inevitable for the enemy. And it will come. And peace will come, too.
And our children will finally go to school. They know from an early age what freedom and struggle for it are, what rights are, what the Constitution of Ukraine is.
And they know what glorious legal ancestors they have. In particular, the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk, which is over 300 years old. It is called the first written Constitution of Europe. And last year it visited home, Ukraine, for the first time. It was exhibited in Kyiv, but it is fair to read it in every corner of Ukraine. To this end, it will be translated from Latin into Ukrainian, and tens of thousands of copies will be sent to Ukrainian schools! We are sure that sooner or later the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk, the Constitution of independent Ukraine, and other subjects of the Ukrainian school will be studied by our happy and smiling children - in Donetsk, Luhansk, Mariupol, Kherson, Crimea
Victory is not far off! Victory will be ours!
Happy Constitution Day of Ukraine, dear citizens!
Glory to you!
Glory to the Armed Forces of Ukraine!
Glory to Ukraine!
- President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy

I think some people here have the wrong image of European behaviour when it comes to the "You only hate on Americans!!!" No, Europeans are very much often hostile towards each other. If you are in spaces where hobbyists are mainly Europeans, there will be ribbing, banting, or just straight up antagonising, just like is being done towards the US in some of these confessions. If you're in those spaces, and look for it, you'll see it. Though there are country specific spaces, where you can only join if you know the specific language as well. There's a lot of passive aggression with some.
But the difference? Most European, especially EU countries have more similarities, so when we rib on those, we all just agree on the same thing. The US is culturally much different. Another difference is also that many Europeans don't expect you to know their political climate, yeah we kinda know about each other, but it's not expected, especially in non-politics focused hobby spaces, aka the doll hobby.  Like, how often do you see European centric politics in the doll hobby, country or the entirety of Europe, unless it's a straight up war, versus how often do we get to hear about US topics anywhere? Even those topics that are just very petty. (Honestly, even when it comes to a straight up war, the amount of tone deaf US stuff I've seen about Ukraine vs Russia makes my head spin.) When it comes to rants about Americans, customs, taxes, and shipping. It's also a side effect of how much harder it is to be in the doll hobby as Europeans, and how shipping can be a massive pain in the ass.
Most Europeans kinda just deal with it when a sales page says "Only ships within the US" but we often deal with US folks not respecting the same thing. Or, as we saw mentioned when the US-tax thing happened, US people suddenly flock to demanding F&F, and even shitting on anyone who doesn't agree, not even considering the worries of the buyer. But before that, US people were just so enthusiastic making fun or mocking European hobbyists for having to pay high taxes, or asking for accommodated shipping, like the customs form. It's also often a nightmare to deal with certain customers from the US. Of course shipping something from Europe to the US will take longer than if you buy it from within your own country, even if it's a different state. Or for Europeans to ship to another European country.
I will place my head on the chopping block btw, and say that despite the large amount of confessions, and how some sound more aggressive. Most Europeans, and probably also many people from the rest of the world, don't actually hate or even dislike the US. I think it's just the frustration bubbling up for many, and just wanting to vent a bit about personal feelings about the topics, because you often can't do that in shared spaces, without people taking it too personally. You know like how you say shit when angry because you just want to let off steam, because certain thoughts have been festering for for a prolonged time.

I’m NOT saying that EACH AND EVERY Dom, Mistress, Self-proclaimed Goddess, etc., is really a front for some organization that’s perpetrating fraudulent activity.
To those, who have exhausted other attempts to feed their families, and can’t make it on whatever hand-outs they get, you go, girl.
To those others, who are too lazy and/or incompetent to get real jobs, or are so full of themselves that money gained by preying on vulnerable individuals becomes their entitlement…the day will come when you will give an account for your actions, and there will be no lawyer or jury. Just you, and the Judge, and the mountains of evidence.
And for the organizations who do this to raise funds for whatever malevolent purpose (Freedom for Palestine, Root out Nazis in Ukraine, Trump 2024, whatever), the spilled blood from your fundraising efforts will be on your hands for all eternity.
And last, but not least, the “customer”. Folks, most of you would go full Karen (or Ken) if the Drive-Thru at McDonald’s shorted you a tube of ketchup in your order. Why do you accept people charging you money for doing things that bring you no benefit? If you want to be humiliated IRL, get yourself some pink underwear, and go stand in front of the church during Sunday service, but don’t take your rent money and give it to someone who has no rights to your money! You worked for it, so why give it away to strangers? If you really have too much money in your hands, go help someone in need, like single mothers, the sick, the elderly, buy flowers and put them on the grave of a loved one. Don’t give it to someone who brags about having hundreds or thousands of simps and slaves. If they’re really that successful, they don’t need your money. If they’re still demanding your money, they’re either lying, or greedy. JUST SAY NO.
Sex and porn addiction is just as much of a problem as drug, alcohol, or gambling addictions. Since you can read this post, you have access to internet. If you can’t stay away from people who don’t have your best interests at heart, and think you’re just a walking ATM, get help!
Wow, this turned out much longer than I expected!
Be good and kind to each other!

[ad_1] Russia is a country with a wealthy historical past. It must be higher than this.(The New York Occasions) Demonstrators confront the police all the way through a protest towards the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in Moscow on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022.By means of Bhupendra Patel | Particular to The Tribune  | March 16, 2022, 3:58 p.m.I write this simply having spent a number of hours looking to save imaginative and prescient in a single eye of 1 human being. This afternoon I will be running for greater than 4 hours looking to reconstruct a face that used to be broken, nay, destroyed, in a contemporary struggle. I'm starting to marvel in regards to the function of all of it. I'm operating in Utah. A struggle hundreds of miles away must now not impact me in my opinion, however now not a waking second is going via when I'm really not pondering of it. Faulty as they inevitably are in a struggle scenario, estimates in regards to the Ukrainian struggle as of March 10 are as follows: 549 civilian deaths (26 being kids), between 2,000 and four,000 useless within the Ukrainian defense force, between 5,000 and 12,000 useless Russian troops, and greater than 2.5 million other folks, and extending day by day, looking for safe haven. Those are Russian and Ukrainian fathers, moms, brothers, sisters and, unfortunately, kids.Genetic research have proven that a lot of the Ukrainian inhabitants is descended from Indo-Europeans whose ancestry derives from the Russian steppes. They're necessarily “Russian.” So, we're witnessing the loss of life and harm of the similar ancestral peoples: a area divided. It wouldn’t be the primary time that a guy leaving behind his “circle of relatives” would cloak it in a veneer of patriotism. There used to be no nice mistaken that had to be avenged. It is a easy land-grab, a go back to feudalism. If we're to go back to feudalism, most likely our international leaders must lead armies from the entrance, just like the kings of outdated. Will have to we select to be naughty once more, the sight of Top Minister Boris Johnson main from the entrance would nearly be value the cost of access.Russia is a country wealthy in historical past. You may have supplied the sector with probably the most absolute best track, literature, art work, ballet, amongst a lot else. You, as a tradition, worth custom, and recognize. Simplistic because it sounds, have been you now not introduced as much as handle your circle of relatives, brothers, sisters, kids, or even strangers?Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave a Churchillian speech to the British Parliament March 8, invoking Shakespeare. However this isn't 1940, when Winston Churchill give his “we will battle at the seashores” speech. With its nearly Pindaric splendor, this speech might stir our very loins with the overpowering rush of bizarre rhetoric. However is it the age and time for this? We are meant to have moved on. Resistance won't, as the person mentioned, be futile. However indisputably there are occasions to stand the details and thereby save lives. For the Ukrainians, when a mighty and nuclear-powered power surrounds you, going to an inevitable loss of life for the sake of pleasure might seem heroic. However now not such a lot for the damaged households. The maimed, in time, will simply be maimed. I see this continuously in my clinical apply. There will likely be no bugles, they usually received’t really feel like heroes. The mighty might but fall. Not likely on this present scenario. And at what value? As Artemus Ward famous, “It ain’t such a lot the issues we don’t know that get us in bother; it’s the issues we all know that ain’t so.” You, as the good other folks of Russia, should indisputably know the numerous issues “that ain’t so.”There must be no issue that can't be solved with discussion, debate, argument and, sure, compromise. The human race can do higher. The human race must do higher. As a substitute of random protests all over the world, I'd counsel
that at a designated hour on a designated day, the sector must have a “sit-out” the place everybody comes out onto the road. Out of your workplaces, your properties, your eating places, your bunkers. In each and every main capital, little the city, minuscule village. In silence, however steeped in severe function. The arena would prevent, now not for lengthy, however, I'd counsel, the message can be brought to our international leaders extra loudly than any indignant protests. Let the bugles sound the Truce of God, to Ukraine and Russia, if now not the entire international eternally. The Russians must now not must be cowed via sanctions and accusations. To be hated internationally. The hatred for all issues Russian is evidenced from folks’ fresh conduct in opposition to “Russian-sounding companies.” This hatred is spreading to soccer golf equipment, to execs in track and game and to governments. We're espousing indiscriminate hatred. It don't need to wish to be so. No guy is an island. Any guy’s loss of life diminishes us as a result of we're serious about mankind. Russia, that is your hour. Rise up and be counted. The bell tolls for thee.Bhupendra Patel, M.D., is a beauty and reconstructive plastic surgeon at College of Utah Well being. He has taught and demonstrated surgical tactics in many countries all over the world together with, in 2008, Ukraine. [ad_2] #open #letter #Russian #other folks
