Disco Elysium is an incredible game made by a group of Estonian communists. Following a colossal world-shattering bender, your character, a detective of the Revachol Citizen's Militia, wakes in a hostel room with no memory and over the next few days has to put the pieces of his life back together while also attempting to solve a murder and uncovering details of the unfamiliar world he's living in. He has help from the set of skills who live in his head and give him suggestions, and from his police partner, Kim Kitsuragi, as he tries to navigate this unfamiliar world and the cast of characters who populate it; delinquent kids, angry cafeteria managers, cryptid hunters, communist students, union men, speedfreaks, programmers.

The game has really gorgeous writing and oscillates between poetic and hilarious. The world building is rich and interesting, and lends itself very well to theorising. It has some very heavy themes- mental illness, disability, masculinity, capitalism, colonialism, morality of policing, community, love and heartbreak, addiction- and gets extremely dark in places, but one of the things I love most about it is the way it's punctuated by moments of light.

Oh my gawd you're a game dev?? What kind of games do you like making? Are you currently working on something? Do you have any tips? I'm trying game dev myself, I'm not the best atit though (sorry for a lot of questions 😭)

Yep!! right now it's just a hobby I do on the side while I get my footing (studying programming so that's taking up a lot of my time lol) but I definitely want to do more with it in the future

As for tips, I'm pretty new to it all myself so I'm kind of half-blindly stumbling through the process and can't really offer much advice-

Currently I'm working on a little text adventure game but its VERY rough and I'm just testing out the concept. Mostly a project for myself but i might end up releasing it/showing other's, depends how it goes haha

I love 2D adventure games especially, but while I get better at pixel art and animation I've mostly been messing around with text-based games.

Hello Caleb Widogast cosplayers whomst I am sure follow me, I have a question for you all

I need to order a wig for a character whose hair looks like it's meant to be a similar shade/length to mid-to-late campaign Caleb (who is also, coincidentally, a sad German man who loves books) and have been having a hell of a time finding one I'm pleased with, even with the help of an Arda color wheel borrowed from a friend. What wigs have some of you purchased for your costumes?

Arda are my preferred wig source but I'm willing to consider another place if you've been really happy with one. If you're willing to share pictures that would be ideal, but you certainly don't have to.

7. Your favourite ao3 tag. In terms of reading tags, anything Alternate Universe. I can't pick one favorite sub-type but it's undoubtedly the family of tags I read the most of. In terms of silly tags: 'no beta we die like wwx', because it's a hilariously perfect twist on the 'no beta we die like men'. (The main character canonically dies at the start of the novel.) (I was tempted to also choose a NSFW tag but chickened out.🙈) 26. What would you describe as OOC? Behavior that deviates from expected norms without any reasonable justification. It'd look different from character to character but a general example would be if Superman showed up and just started murdering people, and we were never given a reason why, that's OOC to me. A lot of (rude) commenters use OOC as an insult, but if a character is going through a different set of circumstances, they may not be exactly like they are in canon. However, if the setup and setting is essentially canon but the character veers into wildly different behavior, I consider that OOC. 29. What's the hardest thing about writing? For me, it's dealing with the low points when my creative energy is nonexistent. It's probably natural that creativity will ebb and flow but when I have a period of no writing longer than a couple of weeks, I get pretty depressed (which of course just makes it harder to feel like creating🥲). 30. Describe a fic that almost happened, but then it didn't. I'm going to pick an example of something I almost got to the finish line and then...didn't, rather than an idea I had but never started.

It was a Charles/Erik X-Men: First Class werewolf AU set in the world of Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson novels. (My love for super niche AU strikes again!) The set up was similar to the movie in that Charles and Raven grow up together, Charles is gathering "misfits", and Erik goes through hell because of Shaw and becomes hell-bent on killing him. Everyone is a werewolf and wolves are split into alpha, beta or the very rare omega, completely unrelated to the alpha, beta and omega dynamics common in fanfic.

A wounded Erik stumbles onto the estate in Westchester, on the run from Shaw. Charles finds him, introducing him to the idea of a supportive pack (instead of what he had with Shaw) and their attraction grows as Erik recovers. Eventually Shaw finds them and Erik chooses to side with Charles and protect his new found family pack.

I put a lot of heart and soul into that one and I'm still pretty proud of the writing, but I just thought it would constantly be confused as an a/b/o fic and readers would be upset or disappointed that it didn't have any of those aspects, so eventually I gave up on making it happen.

How u got into Pokémon, Len’en, and touhou?

i got into pokemon when i was in like 3rd grade, because a friend gave me some of his cards

i got into touhou in 7th grade because i had heard bad apple on a pump it up prime machine the arcade i had my birthday party at had, and was trying to find it on youtube a few months later

and i got into len'en earlier this year because i had been listening to the ost and had honestly been meaning to give it a shot for years

besides those, i'm a big fan of kirby, those games are my childhood (even more than pokemon is). most the other stuff im big into right now are niche though, like 100% orange juice and hit webcomic sparkly life of murder-chan

The university archivist is a strange man, with cutting eyes and the kind of look that says he knows far more than anyone around him. Leela is not sure how true that is, but she can tell that he believes it. She has never seen him soften the way he does when she approaches him with a question; at first, she becomes defensive, because she does not want him to see her as fragile — she does not want anyone to see her as fragile, or soft, but especially not someone she works with.

The library is a nice work environment, a place she can help people and learn more herself. She gets strange, disapproving looks, sometimes, when people hear her stumble over words in her second language or ask why she does not use contractions — she did not even know what a contraction was, until she looked it up in the dictionary. Where she comes from, combined words do not exist as they do in English.

Irving Braxiatel, known among university students as "The Icicle" — a funny name, considering that the school's headmistress is called "Ice Maiden," almost as if the two of them go together in some way — seems to become warmer when Leela works with him. She never asks why, and he never truly tells her anything outright, but she senses a connection. He does not point out her shortcomings, or the ways she differs from most; in turn, Leela does not pry into his constant secrecy.

There is something guarded about Brax, but then again, there is also something guarded about her. Perhaps in some quiet, unspoken way, they understand each other.
