Costume Name: Lady of Lórien and Light

Costume Description: An original design based on Galadriel and Lothlórien architecture from The Lord of the Rings, consisting of a dress of rose silk and cupro embroidered with sequins and crystals, a 3-D printed bodice, neck corset, and bracelet, a bejeweled ring, wire elf ears, and a recycled, handmade paper flower crown.

Bio: Kathryn Henzler is an award-winning designer and creator of theatrical costumes, cosplay, skating costumes, and geek couture. She has exhibited at conventions and art museums and is a three-time Her Universe Fashion Show contestant. In her day-to-day, she is also a Japanese-English translator, composer/musician/audio engineer, actress, activist, archer, and adult figure skater.

Captain Marvel dress update! After many scrapped pieces I finally have a bodice foundation that I like and a solid procedure for adding the detailing. I still have a lot of work to do before I have a final product that I’m 100% satisfied with, but I’m happy I’ve reached this point! Holy moly, guys. This dress... I can't even. There are no words!! 😍💕😍 It's MARVELous!! #Repost @janemakesstuff ・・・ And the final 'Higher, further, faster!' dress i made to wear to the #CaptainMarvel opening night. A bit of a mishmash of comic and movie elements in the design (and I couldn't find the belt I'd initially intended to wear with it so... comic-style belt styling!). It's been a long time since I took something from concept to final product this quickly (like... A week 😅), and I'm pretty happy all things considered, though it's definitely a reminder of why I should always, always make a mock up. Some wins & thoughts: ✴️First time making my own piping (and using piping in a garment...let's just say I learned a lot) ✴️first time doing leather applique (and my machine tension kept forking up so it's a bit janky in places) ✴️was tempted to buy new materials for this, but kept to my resolution to really try hard to 'make it work' with stuff i have on hand for projects - all fabric and leather from @austincreativereuse ✴️need to do some sort of top-stitching on the bust style lines, they got completely lost in the final garment and I was really proud of that pattering (swipe to see more) ✴️ i didn't have time to do the understructure that would give this the 'hip pop' that i want on the silhouette, but I can add it ✴️ i initially planned to add hidden pockets at the bottom of the red panels but ran out of time to figure out how to do it cleanly... may add those as well. ✴️I'm also not the same shape as a dress form so I feel like it's a bit 'blah' here, but I will at Some Point get professional photos done!! New Look Kirk took her maiden voyage this weekend at #sdcc2019! I'm still pulling together some decent still shots from the days I wore her (this was so much fun to wear I ended up in her both Saturday and Sunday, in addition to wearing her to the #HerUniverseFashionShow judging on Thursday) but I love this short vid I got (even though my feet got cropped out!) because I can't see the hat in action while I'm wearing it and I'm loving how it moves!!! There are still a few tweaks I want to make to how the top closes, but overall I'm happy with how this came out. I've never done a from-scratch #millinery project before, and I learned so much from making the enterprise, as well as trying to engineer the Bar suit padded hip look on the top. I had so much fun talking with people who got either the #startrek aspect or the #diornewlook aspect (and the handful who got both!!! 🖖👗).
