me everytime I am preparing a meal with multiple elements I have to balance so they all finish cooking at the same time: Wow this is just like the 2009 hit Nintendo Wii game 'Food Network: Cook Or Be Cooked'

#or like if I'm making two things and one finishes cooking before the other and has to sit there and get cold #in my brain it's always like 'tsk tsk.. they would deduct points from my score for that' hjhjb #one of those instances of game mechanics imprinting onto your brain. kind of like imagining sims interaction moodlets in irl conversations #i LOVE the game though it's so fun. I've never even heard of it before I just found it by the dumpster in a box of other old wii #games someone was apparently discarding and picked it up due to my interest in cooking shows and stuff #I like having to time things and all the little actions you can do. though sad that there's so little recipes #you can unlock the whole game in like a day or something. I think if I had more time and social energy to actually talk in forums or be par #of a 'community' - I think looking into the type of stuff where people mod wii games and etc. would be very very cool #Wii is my favorite console and so much of the time I am always like 'grrr.. they dont make new games.. and this one game is very cool #but imagine if these 5 improvments were made to it! it would be SO much cooler!' etc.#Like being able to download new custom recipes/levels for Cook or Be Cooked lol #Modding wii sports resort the same way that some people mod skyrim and build entirely new games out of it #with new quests and etc. Like just.. create your own sports.. RPG mode.. use the already existing archery assets and etc. to have a mode #where you can just free roam around the map shooting at enemies and stuff ghhjbjh #WHICH I WOULD LOVE DEARLY..#I dont realyl like combat in games but idk I'd make an exception.. whatever.. I just want to play more in the Wii World #I have the soul of one of those people who builds all their own computers and 3D prints custom frames to transplant their 3DS into and #has like all special 'hacked' phones and wii mods and customizes everything and etc. etc. like.. 100% my exact personality and preferences #HOWEVER I just simply do not have the money or physical energy/time to get onto projects like that #The best I can hope for is one day having a close friend who does that so I can maybe use their 3D printer every once in a while or we both #collaborate on some wii modding project or etc. but I just couldn't on my own.. I already have too much stuff going on.. Have to make #compromises due to lack of money + low energy + busy. Like I could never build my own phone. I could save up for a teracube phone #or something so it's better and more repairable than all these dumbass modern phones you cant even take the backs off of. but that's probab #y the best I could do lol. #I should work on the prototype for my webshooters again actually #i have an idea that's been sitting in a sketchbook for awhile and i could probably figure out how to model the base for it in CAD #never tried it (CAD) before but I was thinking about modeling that and some masks when i have free time (never)#CAD stands for Computer Aided Design by the way :) if anyone reads these lil rambles of mine #does anyone read these?#eh whatever #but I'm sure CAD isn't thst difficult. it also probably depends on the software used? i have a couple in mind I got from katze but that's #all i have on them #I'm probably going to take another engineering class over the summer so i can get more familiar with it #when I'm not teaching #actually i think I've mentioned it before but i teach sometimes over the summer! not highschoolers like miles's school; maybe a bit younger #used to work at a camp for awhile; i think ill volunteer later this year #one of my campers made me a magnet with a web and spider on it:) it was so cute #my camp name's inspired by spiders/webs (of course) so the kids love showing me spiders they find indoors #i bring em outside; away from trails and such and let em free #I'M GETTING SIDETRACKED #webshooters! right #i need to figure out how to compress the materials inside it while keeping the strength of them relatively similar #and i could figure out how to reload it quicker? but that requires more circuits and money that i definitely don't have #i could always take apart that 3d printer I was talking about a little while ago? there's probably some stuff in there I could reuse #the filament that it used to use could probably be used as the spool of string the projectile uses #I'll have to cut it vertically though #cuz that will definitely not fit in the webshooters w that rectangle shape #oh i am not good w a knife though. tw from here on for knives probably #the other day i was trying to cut something to cook and i accidentally knicked my finger 😬 it's mostly healed by now but DANG that wasn't #fun #SIDE NOTE. ough I really oughta just pay for an Actual blender course instead of trying to teach myself via youtube tutorials and messing around bc holy adhd, batman

#I wanna MODEL I wanna SCULPT I wanna RIG and ANIMATE I wanna make MATERIALS I wanna figure out GEO NODES #and like. tutorials are nice and all but a lot of the time they don't generally explain /why/ things work #or what /exactly/ different tools do and are good for #I should probably try to focus on one aspect at a time. try to master modeling then sculpting then materials etc.#bc like ok I wanted to make a self-portrait kinda thing before the end of the month but things've been busy with my dad's fiance moving in #and also I've been in Minecraft hyperfixation mode for 2-3 weeks now with no sign of it letting up anytime soon #so I was spending more time gaming than learning blender #BUT a couple days ago I figured I could use that to my advantage and just. model my Minecraft skin #it's just cubes it couldn't be THAT hard right #*cue several hours of trying to figure out various ways of making materials bc I can't quite get them looking the way I want*#I did also make it a bit more interesting by making some stuff 3d and not just painted onto the cubes #I wanna try a couple more things before I post it tho #anyway point is I keep getting distracted and only really learning how to copy stuff #and sometimes not even that bc it doesn't work with the newest version or they skip a step that's obvious to THEM but not absolute beginners #I think part of it is I wanna share these Absolutely Perfect Finished projects when really I should be focusing on /making/ the project #I should start posting wips or something. make Yet Another sideblog for all my blender stuff #get distracted learning just enough html and css to make it look cool even though nobody looks at desktop versions of blogs anymore

With all these timelapse videos, quick tips and "quick sketches" (that are actually beautiful fully rendered illustrations) constantly being waved in our faces on the internet, I thought I would issue a reminder to myself (and to others) that making good art takes a lot of time, effort and often it is hard.

Spending time with other artists I know, particularly my friend who is a full time concept artist, always helps remind me of this but the internet often makes me feel like all art should be completely effortless.

SO, if anyone else is scrolling through tumblr and feeling shit about their art, this is to remind you that often professional artists can spend even hundreds of hours carefully constructing and rendering a beautiful illustration. The best artists use references effectively; rarely do perfect drawings spring fully formed from the head of an artist with no references or construction.

This applies to all art forms as well. When I first started my career as a 3D artist, I was worried that I wasn't working quickly enough but was told to chill out because it is normal for making a nice prop to take a (40 hour) week or more. People who do art professionally get so much TIME to develop their craft so never beat yourself up if you feel like you are not measuring up. <3

Anything you create is beautiful and we are lucky to witness it! <3

A note to all creatives:

Right now, you have to be a team player. You cannot complain about AI being used to fuck over your industry and then turn around and use it on somebody else’s industry.

No AI book covers. No making funny little videos using deepfakes to make an actor say stuff they never did. No AI translation of your book. No AI audiobooks. No AI generated moodboards or fancasts or any of that shit. No feeding someone else’s unfinished work into Chat GPT “because you just want to know how it ends*” (what the fuck is wrong with you?). No playing around with AI generated 3D assets you can’t ascertain the origin of. None of it. And stop using AI filters on your selfies or ESPECIALLY using AI on somebody else’s photo or artwork.

We are at a crossroad and at a time of historically shitty conditions for working artists across ALL creative fields, and we gotta stick together. And you know what? Not only is standing up for other artists against exploitation and theft the morally correct thing to do, it’s also the professionally smartest thing to do, too. Because the corporations will fuck you over too, and then they do it’s your peers that will hold you up. And we have a long memory.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking “your peers” are only the people in your own industry. Writers can’t succeed without artists, editors, translators, etc making their books a reality. Illustrators depend on writers and editors for work. Video creators co-exist with voice actors and animators and people who do 3D rendering etc. If you piss off everyone else but the ones who do the exact same job you do, congratulations! You’ve just sunk your career.

Always remember: the artists who succeed in this career path, the ones who get hired or are sought after for commissions or collaboration, they aren’t the super talented “fuck you I got mine” types. They’re the one who show up to do the work and are easy to get along with.

And they especially are not scabs.

Google how do you draw faster without losing quality--

#Giving myself the bad feels because I want to draw more often and stuff but #my art takes me so long and takes so much energy ;~;#I wish it didn't...#I miss being able to draw nearly every day #I wish I could draw fast #aaaa #My brain was made for words not for art #I think like that's kind of the trade off #I think in words and most people think in images and pictures apparently #I have to actively TRY to get a picture in my head and tbh it often is only very brief #Compsition was really hard for me before I started using my 3D models #then I could tweak the poses until it felt right and THEN I could draw #But posing is also like #kinda hard???#it's tedious I think #I might look up how to make different hand poses and stuff just so that's not like #something I have to fuss with every time #like if I make a hand pose and save it then I can reuse it #that kind of idea #Hands are always really annoying and hard to pose so that would probably be for the best #at least it'll speed up posing #I might also make some generic poses like walking and running #just bases to work from to make more unique poses for art pieces #Anyway long story short #I'm a slow artist because I'm a fast writer #that might just be something I need to live with #And I need to find ways to short cut the process for art so it's not nearly as miserable to draw for me #I've been kind of tempted to try out making 3D models of all the characters I want to or like to draw #And use special methods to just use that to make line art for drawing because boy can I NOT be fucked to do line art #I've been kind of wanting to get more into 3D stuff lately too so idk
