i could've done a bicycle kick yesterday, you thought. it could've been my match.

don't you just love it? being in your own thoughts for the 500th time today. sense the sarcasm? "y/n," gio catches your attention, snapping you out of your head. "joão te busca, cariño." [dad is looking for us, wave back. joão is looking for you, sweetheart.]

your eyes run all over the pitch before landing on the squad, joão the second to last guy in the line-up. he sends you a wave, grinning to himself when he sees you facing him. he'd never know if you were making eye contact or not; he was just happy you were there. you wave back at him, not even bothering to hide your smile from your stepmother.

"estoy feliz de que estés feliz. y tienes suerte porque es un chico lindo," gio winks before you both share a laugh; something you missed sharing with georgina. because of your tight schedule and the fact that you play football in spain and don't live in riyadh with your parents and siblings, you'd missed out every single important thing that's happened in the ronaldo house. eva and mateo's sixth birthday, alana's first day of school, bella's first steps, junior joining the al-nassr academy. everything. "¿sabes lo que significa? bebés lindos." [i'm happy you're happy. and you're lucky because he's a cute boy. and you know what that means? cute babies.]

"mamá!" you try to stop gio from going any further. because babies? aren't you too young to be thinking about children right now? your career at barcelona had only begun to skyrocket, and joão had only recently began his season stint at the club. children and settling down should be the last thing on both your minds. although every now and then, you can't help but think about it. would you and joão last long enough for children of your own in the future? "i'm only 22." you mutter under your breath, soft enough for gio to completely miss it.

the referee's whistle snaps you out of your own thoughts — a place you'd often find yourself in when you're out of the pitch. you were worried about the fact that joão barely got to feel the ball. especially after he promised you he'd give you a strike tonight.

"no, i promise," his voice lingers around you from hours ago. "i'll make sure i get the ball, and it's yours, querida. eu prometo." [i promise]

well, he promised — and promises stick with you like gorilla glue. even at the ripe old age of 22, you still believe in pinky promises the way georgina still believes in romance movies. that's besides the point.

it was up till the point after your dad was awarded a penalty. he took it, it went in, your dad is a worldwide legend, blah blah blah. you knew it was bound to happen everytime portugal play. the game was inching up to 14 minutes as your legs begin to bounce nervously. what made it worse was that mateo was on your lap when it happened.

"querida, why are your legs shaking?" mateo's neck cranes to look at you. all you could give him was a weak smile.

"nothing, 'zinho. just nervous for papai like all of us, né?" you answer, hoping mateo will take it and leave it alone.

"you're nervous for joão." if there's one thing you could curse about mateo, it's how close he is to you, even though you no longer live with your family. on his day, mateo would feel lonely — even though he's a twin — and ask gio to facetime you. most of the time, he'd catch you at the right time; driving back home from training, going out for lunch with joão on an off day. and sometimes you wouldn't pick up, occupied with training for the upcoming game that week.

mateo would never fail to call you at least twice a month, understanding how tight your schedule is and that he has to leave you alone sometimes, afraid you'd be exhausted after a long day of training. sometimes you'd give him a call too, missing your queridinho on your day.

"não somos todos?" you nervously chuckle, your hands were resting on mateo's lap, its fingers slowly picking at your cuticles. [aren't we all?]

"si, but you're stressed," mateo pouts. "joão told me you made him promise to score tonight. and you know what, y/n? i hope he scores too." he gives you his typical mateo smile; the absolute sweetest thing you could ever see.

not even a mere few seconds later, a cross from bernardo comes in. you try to anticipate which portugal boy it'd reach. you released a breath you didn't realise you were holding when you see the ball making immediate contact with joão's head, as he nicks the ball in past the luxembourg goalkeeper.

the crowd was anticlimactic, though, you'd have to say. there is a totally valid reason for it. is joão offside or not? the referee blows his whistle, giving the goal to portugal as they now lead the game 2-0. you carefully picked mateo up as you stand, the boy's arms in the air as he celebrates the allowed goal from his hermano. you watch as joão turns to the grandstand your family is situated at.

you can only assume he's looking at you at that point, but gio turns to face you and mateo to state the obvious. "el te esta mirando!" gio screams in a whispery manner. you'd only assumed that, but you were wearing the white portugal away kit, allowing joão to identify you clear as day from the pitch compared to the rest of your family who were clad in black winter coats. you agree, the weather is a bit nippy in luxembourg.

joão looks you dead in the eye — or you assume — and crosses his arms. you immediately realise what it meant, smiling to yourself as your dad, bruno and bernardo begin to crowd him and give him words of congratulations on the smooth yet second nature goal of his.

you wait till after the game, where they defeat luxembourg 6-0 to regroup with joão and cristiano. cris, before anything, would engulf gio and bella first, giving joão full leeway to reach for you first. "did you see?!" the taste of excitement is still sweet and prominent on joão's tongue when he speaks.

"i saw! my celebration at barça. thief." you joke, pushing a fist into his bicep playfully.

"amo-te, linda. obrigado por estar aqui." joão smiles, not hesitating to squish your face into his chest. [i love you beautiful, thank you for being here]

"eu vim buscar o papai, mas tudo bem." you shrug jokingly before finding yourself in your papai's arms and listening to him thank you for coming to a portugal game — an away game, no less. [i came for dad, but okay]

okay I am really autistic and think abt them all the time so

golden wind theories/ hcs abt the main gangs mental illnesses

okay I dont think we talk about how mista probably has ocd enough. we see that he has intrusive thoughts/ obsessions and while we don’t see him have a lot of obvious compulsions but he often acts in a way that may seem irrational to some and has strict routines and fears something will go wrong when they are interrupted. he counts things obsessively, has rituals, etc etc.

short aside: pls don't think I am glorifying/ romanticizing anything I talk abt here these are theories and if anything I say is inaccurate pls lemme know!! I did research abt what I talk abt here but these are my own personal theories/ observations/ how I relate to them :)

I see a lot of people hc narancia as having ADHD but I am here to further my everyone in bucci gang has autism agenda. /hj I am autistic and relate to him. how he has trouble reading peoples intentions and trusts too easily is smth I really relate too! That's not to say he couldn't also have ADHD but if you read him as autistic it adds a lot of depth to his backstory <:) he's also highly empathetic and struggles regulating his emotions.

moving on this is obvious and more a plea to people to do research and write realistic recovery for leone being an alcoholic.

I would also love to see more people talking about Bruno. Specifically within the context of bruabba and his savior complex, I can't help but think he would be a little bitter than he is always the one saving people and that he's not allowed to be weak despite all the trauma he went through at a young age and joining the mafia at 14. It would definitely create more vulnerability issues to play parent to not only three traumatized children but also your so, the one who you are meant to feel safest with. I think a lot of Bruno's savior complex issues stems from him thinking that the crimes he has committed in his past and continues to commit as part of his role within Passione make him a bad person, and to atone for these sins he "saves" others. You can see how angry he is when he takes Narancia to the hospital and then he says he also wants to join the gang. To Bruno this is akin to spitting in his face. 'You would throw away the second chance I gave you to make the same mistakes I did?' idk I love him and so many people treat him as if he is perfect and I think he deserves to be complex and maybe resent his family for treating him as a therapist and savior and not always like a flawed human being. basically please let us have more dysfunctional bruabba family I need them to live.

I could write a whole essay on fugo so I shall save him for another time and because I don't trust my own intelligence to talk about him. fugo peak.

A lot of dude bros get mad at Giorno's "lack of personality" as if it doesn't stem directly from him being neglected as a child. He was punished for showing normal emotions as a kid so he hides them as he gets older. He could also totally be read as autistic and thats a hc that holds a special place in my heart. Opposed to Narancia, who is on the high empathy end of the spectrum, Gio, partly as a response to how he was raised, has lower empathy which also effects how he communicates with others. I think he is such a complex character and wish more people devoted time to analyzing him rather than writing him of as boring.

episode 1

• i’m already emotional because i just watched the season 4 finale but it makes me so happy to see all of them again :’)

• idk why i’m realizing it just now but getting another ‘boy squad’ season with most of them at uni is the best case scenario i hadn't dared to imagine a few years ago

• martis face being the first thing i see is the universe giving me a present :)

• and in true skam italia fashion we're starting with a party scene. it’s still one of the things this show is excellent at

• being able to party any day of the week without having to worry about school in the morning is indeed one of the best things about that time 

• noo elia stopping by the window at school where they used to hangout :(

• aw i already love this elia & filo roommate arrangement. wholesome!

• i love all of them being friends so much !! and it’s believable. one of the many advantages of marti’s season following eva’s. uniting the friend groups so early was so important for the unique feeling of the show

• elia i already love you, idk what to say.

• gio talking to elia in the car like dont lie to you mother!

• lmao the last scene. good thing i already know what this season is about because i dont know what i would have thought about that

• new school psychologist ?? well he definitely looks competent and like the opposite of the mess that was spera

• i love the shows commitment to have everyone live at filos apartment at one point. i’m not complaining, it obviously means they’ll have way more scenes together and i never look a gift horse in the mouth.

• aw that marti and elia hug reminds me of the earlier seasons. i love them <3

• mago dell’ amore is back 😁

• skam italia always including the protagonists parents and having their issues feed into the conflict of the season is soo good

• the main guy being pressured by someone into helping out with some school activity is pretty funny tbh

• marti trying to help lol without really saying anything

• elia actually having to work while in school is a good decision. did any other characters do that? i don’t think so but i’m not sure

• omg the secret way into school ba chicco rodi 😂 insane idea, but also incredibly funny because schools definitely have these iconic forbidden stories that live on

• seeing all these scenes from the trailer in the episodes is giving me flashbacks. i was so sure it wasn’t gonna happen this time but it’s marti running towards a door all over again

• the breakfast scene omg stop. poor elia living with all these guys

• wait they keep in contact with spera? did not expect that but i fear it means elia is not gonna talk to anyone else about his problems

• they all play football with the others :))) hi guys i know you 😌

• the girls coming to beat up elia omfg

• very interesting choice regarding the ‘political’ group elia had to join which then wants to cancel his friends project

• ok the ping pong scene is very cute

• i’m definitely curious how this whole thing will play out but body issues that prevent you from being able to pursue serious relationships…. i feel you elia

episode 4

• elia taking the flowers from that other grave……………..

• are they really not gonna show us who it is? i guess it’s his mom. it would explain the scene with his dad during dinner. but does that also mean his dad doesnt visit the grave because there are no fresh flowers

• oh no he’s driving a car. i remember a scene from the trailer. pls

• okayyy what the hell did he find in that car. why are you not showing me.

• this band performance is exactly how i remember band performances from school (they felt better when you were 18)

• what the hell is going on with luchino

• filo is watching the dark finale OMG

• i want more scenes of him talking about his parents and in general i need to spend more time with these characters netflix why are you only giving me 20 minute episodes

• ngl i’d be pissed too that was the last 10 minutes of the series finale it’s an important moment

• a nico and elia scene yay but it should have been longer. why are these talks between characters so short… there is so much to talk about that would benefit them

• everyone casually revealing that marti tells every detail of his and nico’s first few weeks is so funny to me. he’s unbearable. if you think marti won’t tell you how many times they kissed on the first date you are a fool.

• this season has so many scenes set at filo’s apartment and characters going in and out but i like it that way. actually i think it’s really good for elia to be surrounded by his friends while he’s the only one still in school and struggling. imagine him living with his dad….no

• fede and elia scene ! i love that. and yes please let these kids realize what some of their behaviour is doing to others

• why are the most interesting things happening at the end of the season

• filo and elia are very good together. i think fillippo basically works with every character that can put up with his sharp comments, that’s why he also worked well in earlier seasons with eleonora, marti and sana

• the scene with elia telling the boys is great. skam italia actually did something here. smart choice. marti looks so hurt, basically grieving the idea of a person huh. and everyone hugging <33

• the scene with fede <333

• don’t tell me i’m gonna be emotional in every scene this episode because i can feel it

• elias calm demeanor and silent comfort when other people have problems is something i think about a lot (season 2 flashbacks)

• the speech during the last radio show :))))))))

• this made me realize how little sana we had this season. i know s4 was her season but still. elia needed an intelligent girl for some wise thoughts

• they’re honoring their elders by inviting chicco rodi

• ah the good old locking two people in a room trick 

• everyone going to bracciano….. guys where the hell do you think you will fit. it was already full when only the girls and boys were there last season

• and that’s it. they wrapped up way more storylines from earlier seasons than i expected. i have so much more to say and rewatch etc but first i need to process

• i swear this season only made me want to spend more time with these characters, i love them all so much!!

• all in all skam italia season 5 good !!

I finished! Okay, so. What did I think? What did we all think?

The first 4 episodes were dragging for me. But it really picked up somewhere around episode 6 and I liked how it went from there. True to IT fashion, it was not over-dramatized (which we love), and full of realistic problems and solutions (gee, who would have thought to talk to a therapist about your problems (Not me but thats my own issue)).

More thoughts under the cut...

things to discuss:

- Elia’s relationship with everyone but specifically Luchino and Federica was beautiful to see. Fede got a big upgrade this season which I appreciated (also she looked great, can we just acknowledge? the short hair works for her)

- I loved that Elia’s friend group at school was all girls. And that one guy who we frankly didn’t see enough of.

- Elia crying in the bathroom? We’ve all been there, bby

- I wish they’d dived a bit deeper into the issues with the dad since it seems like he does care about the mom and Elia, but typical boys refuse to talk to each other

- Elia and Filo roommates, yes please! Would have liked more - some heart to hearts on the couch, but we did get at least one over laundry

- Glad Nico and Marti were living there best life in the background. Literally the only thing this season needed to be good.

- If we do get a 6th season, I suspect it will be about Asia, who grew on me after a while. I would also not be opposed to learning more about Elia’s desk buddy.

- It was not a perfect season - the first couple episodes really lacked in action or explanation, but I’ll give them a pass.

- Well, Spera is an ass.

- But we got to see Boccia! Who is gratefully unproblematic - just chillin’ off screen with his boyfriend and living his best life

- Love that Elia apologized to Fede for calling her fat for years, glad to see him grow as a person

- Luca deserves the world (except when he sends unsolicited dick pics. Stop it, kid. I think he learned his lesson.)

- I do wish we’d gotten just more of the boysquad. Gio was a little MIA, and is he even still with Eva? A single line or kiss would have sufficed.

Overall, better than I expected. Would watch a 6th season if they decide to do one, so we’ll see!
