So it's clear Doctor Who doesn't really know what to do with Gallifrey, but what I wanted to ask was - do you think the reboot should've destroyed it in the first place? Like don't get me wrong, I love S1 and Christopher Eccleston is one of my favourite doctors and it's all brilliantly acted and it works...but would you, if you'd been in charge of bringing the show back, have wiped out Gallifrey as a narrative choice?
That's a tricky question, because would I have done it? No, I don't think so. But RTD uses it very effectively to create drama, and so I don't think it was a mistake either. It worked for the story he was telling.
But imo bringing it back for the 50th was also a good choice, which for me personally doesn't diminish the weight of the RTD era, because it's not just a reset that ignores what came before - it's precisely because of the Doctor's experiences post-Time War and dealing with the emotional fallout of the choice he made that he can now find a way to make a different choice. (Meanwhile, destroying it again in S12 does feel like a reset back to the status quo of the RTD era, in a way that undercuts not only the emotional significance of that story, as the Doctor isn't the one responsible this time and Gallifrey isn't even her home planet anymore, but also its own story because the Timeless Child plot is far more interesting if the Time Lords are alive for the Doctor to confront.)
So I guess in summary I'm fine with the first destruction of Gallifrey, hate the second one, and I really wish someone would come along who knows how to utilise the Time Lords properly, because they have a ton of narrative potential that New Who has largely ignored.

Mini Moodboard Challenge
Throw together four pictures that best encapsulate the vibes of your fave/most recent fic/idea/brain worm
Tagged by @goldheartedchaoticdisaster, thank you! This was a fun one, I haven't made a moodboard for a bit, I should do that again
Tumblr media
Here is one for the last Flash & Hawkgirl which has been giving me a little trouble because it is the last and last ones of things always give me trouble, but I know the plot, I just need to work out how to get from where I am to where I need to be next. And I had an idea for playing around with the formatting a little as part of it, not sure if that will make it in or not, but in an ideal world it's being published next month (alongside a Speedster Siblings fic I have yet to actually sit and write, but a certain newspaper article is relevant to both so if I can get both done for then that would make me very happy. Though I have also been writing a little more of the Flashvibe Ghost AU so it's not impossible I'm going to get sucked into writing that instead. We'll see)

4, 13, 21, 24, 25, 33, 42, 57, 63, 70 and 71 for the fic writer ask game!
Thank you for the questions! Okay, this took some time and thought. And some of my answers are long. It will be under a "read more" out of convenience and respect for my mutuals and followers.
4. what is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread?
I really want to write a background and sidestory for a one-off character from George Lopez that Tony O'Dell played. I don't think I've written it yet for a few reasons:
a) I don't know if his character is named Blaine (dialogue and closed captions) or Patrick (credits on IMDb and from the end of the episode).
b) I kinda want to ask Tony about that episode and role.
c) I haven't had time or haven't sat down and focused on it enough to start writing it.
No, I don't experience existential dread over it.
13. talk about a writing experience that has pleasantly surprised you.
This isn't going to take long. But in writing my first fic, Is This Love?, I learned that I can write sexy things. This is the opposite of the "write what you know" advice. I have done research and will continue to do more. I've talked with others who have written smut. And I have had some friends read over what little I have written. As I tend to write out of sequence, I haven't published the smut and I'm still a bit anxious about it, but I decided to do this to prove to myself that I could. I wouldn't be upset if Is This Love? is the only fic that I write that contains smut, but proud of myself.
21. pick a writer to co-write a book with and tell us what you’d write about.
A fellow fanfic writer? Hmm, I would say @curiousdamage @missviolethunter @cecexwrites @rynnie-rynn @themaradwrites @avatarskywalker78 and/or @the-time-lord-oracle.
With Curious, MissV, Rynn, and/or AvatarSkywalker78, I would write something for The Karate Kid or Cobra Kai because that is the main fandom that we have in common. The first three were with me when I created my OCs and I honestly would trust them to write Julie or Alyssa. But all of them have strengths writing other characters in that fandom that I'm not sure I can do justice or write with the nuance they deserve.
Curious, MissV, and I could finally write that spinoff/revival-type fanfic for The Equalizer with Scott McCall and his OC daughter as the central characters. Or Curious and I could write a Cagney & Lacey story.
With Cece, it would probably be a story set in the Wizarding World with supporting and minor canon characters.
Obviously, a Doctor Who story with The_Time_Lord_Oracle.
And were I to write an original story, it would be with Rynn or Mara.
All of these writers are ones that I greatly admire, consider friends, have created some of the best original characters (I wish they all were canon and I would protect them to the end), and have written many of my favorite stories.
If you are asking about published/professional authors, I'm not sure. Maybe Rick Riordan, Richelle Mead, David McIntee, Timothy Zahn, Jude Watson, or Cassandra Clare (yes, I know some of the allegations against her, but she is still one of my favorite YA writers).
24. on average, how much writing do you get done in a day?
It really depends on it's a workday vs. weekend, how much time I've had to write, and how inspired I was. If I write at least 500 words, I consider it a productive day.
25. what’s your revision or rewriting process like?
I edit as I write, which makes the writing process longer, I'm sure. Then I send it to my beta. After I hear their thoughts and suggestions, I take into account if those serve the story and make appropriate edits. Then I will post it on AO3.
33. do you start with the characters or the plot when writing?
Honestly, a very rough plot idea. The characters are my main focus and I spend more time thinking about how to develop them and how they will react to the plot.
42. describe the aesthetic of a story in 5 words.
Let me preface this with "I'm not sure that I'm doing this right."
Family. Friendship. Discovery. Magic. Adventure.
57. what is the last thing that a fic made you google when you were reading it?
Okay, these might not be the actual last things, but they are the best that I can remember: Camille Coduri's natural hair color and Billie Piper's eye color.
63. what’s the best insult you’ve read in a fic?
I've read so many fics that I honestly don't know. I'm sorry.
70. are you very critical of your own writing? how much do you find yourself editing (either during the writing or after the fact)?
Yeah, I think I am. I second-guess myself a lot. I edit as I write, so I might spend hours on the same damn paragraph because I didn't like the original word choice, felt it was too similar to something I had previously written, or numerous other reasons. I once nearly trashed everything I wrote for Is This Love? and lay on my bed crying because I thought I was being too harsh on Jimmy and my OC Julie.
71. how do you balance writing and life? do you ever feel overwhelmed by the amount of writing you have to do?
Hahaha. Balance? What's that? Ironic isn't it, considering that I write for The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai? Yes, I constantly feel overwhelmed by the amount of writing that I have to do. I want to be able to post two chapters for three of my WIPs by the end of 2024. I haven't worked on two of them at all yet. I haven't done any writing since early or mid-February. Sometimes, I feel like a failure because I started writing Is This Love? in 2018 and I haven't even started writing the scenes concurrent with the plot of The Karate Kid, while I've got friends and mutuals who can write, finish, and post a few multichapter fics within a few months.

3, 8, 9, 20, 27, 32, 35, 51, 53 and 64 for the fic writer ask game!
3. on a scale of 1-10 how much do you enjoy incorporating romance into the average story?
It has its place, and I am guilty of slipping romance or at least shippy vibes into fics that I did not INTEND to be romantic. I also like writing it in general, even though I struggle with writing the physical aspects (kissing). so I'd say, probably like, a 7/10. which is surprising, because the majority of my fics are rated Gen.
actually I went and figured out that out of all my fics, 70% of them are rated gen which I think is a fun coincidence.
8. what’s your relationship with constructive criticism and feedback like? do you seek it out? how well do you take it?
If I ask for it, I would like it. I don't want it if I didn't ask for it. I may still read it and consider it, but I'm gonna be annoyed by it. Feedback in general? fine - but I do like more than just "I liked this", although I love those comments. when I'm looking for FEEDBACK though, I need more than that. I need to know all your thoughts.
9. in an ideal world where you’re already super successful and published, would you want to see a tv or movie adaptation of your work? why or why not?
If I'm involved, why not? I think the majority of my (imagined) works would work better as a series, though. We've seen how turning longer works into movies works - usually not very well. I want to see my ocs on the screen. (in my dream world it would be an animated show, especially the fantasy ones, but we can't have everything in this live action obsessed world.)
20. what is your favorite trope to write?
soft fics: found family
hurt/comfort fics: trauma reveals
27. do you share rough drafts or do you wait until it’s all polished? And who do you share them with?
depends on how much thought I put into a fic. I'll usually at least scan through and reread fics before publishing, but if it's a fic I wrote in one sitting totally at random? I'll skim it and then post without thinking twice. Fics that I put more thought in, I'll go over at least a few times before publishing. I've only shared rough drafts a few times, and that's when I'm really unsure about the story for some reason and need someone to give it a scan and let me know their thoughts.
32. do characters influence your writing style?
oh definitely!! Every character is a little different so that changes how I write their perspective, so that automatically changes the voice I use when I'm writing.
35. tell us about a character who’s very different than you who you love a whole lot
Most characters I love a whole lot are very different from me lmao but the one who comes to mind most of all is probably Yataka from Arata the Legend. He's a very prim and proper man, very focused on etiquette and being a gentleman, he hates being touched, is obsessed with cleanliness, and also is a HUGE bitch, will bicker like a 5 year old with his best friend (neither of them would admit to being best friends and have one of THE MOST dynamics of all time), and has the capacity for extreme violence and absolutely unhinged behaviour. he also hates himself so much. I'm obsessed with him I love him so much.
51. share the synopsis of a story you work on that you haven’t published yet
Sersi gets harassed/assaulted and the team/whoever sees it are fiercely protective. (aka more Sersi whump and team dynamics.) (I'm still debating whether Ikaris should know or not because he may straight up kill the person.)
53.when writing, do you have an outline? and do you stick to it?
depends on how much I care about the details of the story, or how much I want to get it right. Especially if it's a longer fic, I want to plan as much as I can ahead of time. Or if it deals with more serious topics, I want to figure out how to deal with those ahead of time.
64. what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve read?
5 Times Where Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji Lose a Braincell and 1 Time Where They Lose Another on account of it being a perfect summary of the fic.

I'm interested in Angel-verse!
Warning: If you're (or anyone else who's reading this) is Christian, this gets REALLY blasphemous really fast.
Okay so in my universe, heaven is an alternate plane of existence run by a massive supercomputer known as "G.O.D." aka "Global Optimization Device". The Angels, the citizens of heaven, have declared themselves arbiters of G.O.D.'s will, aka the "Optimized Plan" for humanity to survive. Any deviation from the plan results in the Angel being stripped of their role and sent to hell, which is a place that the Angels created in order to punish anyone who deviated from the plan.
Ellis, an Angel assigned guardianship over a toddler, discovers that The Plan involves the child dying after being run over by a car while playing outside. They're not too fond of that idea, so when the drunk driver comes barreling down towards their ward, they shield the child with their wings, stopping the car in its tracks and allowing the child to live.
Ellis is brought back up to heaven immediately afterward, stripped of their rank, cursed by their archangel superior, and banished down to hell.
Except... that's not what happens.
Through a fluke string of fate, Ellis is accidentally cast down to Earth rather than sent to hell. Having seen the corruption of heaven, Ellis vows to help as many people as they can before their mind and body are fully taken over by their curse, whether that's part of The Plan or not.

Your LOTR Boromir lives fic ALREADY sounds amazing - are you willing to share anything about it or are you just focusing on working on it for now? Also I'd like to please ask about Gondorian names and how they're constructed and how you'd go about making one up (because I've got a LOTR fic in the early wip stages and a couple Gondor OCs that I still don't have names for, and I'd like to be accurate.)
Heehee oh i'm glad you're excited for it! I am kind of giving him a Jaime Lannister character arc (minus the, you know, twin stuff) in that instead of dying he's getting injured in a way that will affect him for the rest of his life and essentially mean that he can't be a warrior anymore and is going to have to rethink some large parts of his identity, as well as having the whole firsthand knowledge of how corrupting the ring can be. Also there's going to be some epic bestie friendship with Boromir and Eowyn, some really emotional shit when he's reunited with Merry & Pippin and also when he returns to Gondor finally.
I am also pondering the idea of working a plot in relating to my headcanon that the Arkenstone is one of the Silmarils, but i have to decide if that will be too much??? idk. AND YES LETS TALK GONDORIAN NAMES I'M HAPPY TO HELP.
HOKAY SO - you have a lot of options here, and they're all going to depend on the exact background of your characters and what you want their families to be like. A lot of people in Gondor who we're introduced to in canon are named after historical figures - Boromir is an example, Denethor another, also Faramir & Éowyn's grandson Barahir. So if you don't want to make up a name, you can literally just look at the family trees (all can be found on the lotr.fandom.com wiki) and pick something that you think fits. I'd also recommend looking them over to get a good feel for what names sound like.
But if you do want to do JRRT proud and dabble in some linguistics of your own you still have a lot of options for making up names! Names of Gondorian people are most commonly of Sindarin origin, but you don't have to hold tight to that. I personally think it would be very reasonable to have people with Rohirric names, and probably at least some with roots in Adûnaic - the language spoken in Númenor. (Especially if someone's parents are history buffs. Probably it would be weird for someone to have a completely Númenorian name like 'Ar-Zimraphel' but honestly as long as the strangeness is acknowledged you could go for it.
As for actual naming customs, everyone seems to just have the one name, I haven't really seen any examples of surnames or patronymics (other than being like "Faramir son of Denethor"), sometimes there will be references to lineage if someone comes from a Known Family - like Boromir being of the House of Húrin, but that's not really part of the name.
Here are some very useful sources:
Parf Edhellan is an amazingly comprehensive online dictionary, phrasebook and general information source for Tolkien linguistics, so if you're looking for specific word meanings that's the place to go. It's got every language JRRT made up.
If you want to grab some quick and easy premade Sindarin compound names, here is a very nice list to check out
Also I am always always happy to talk Tolkien stuff so if you wanna run anything by or bounce ideas off of me i am here for that :3

Top 5 Supergirl episodes!
oh I love this question!
Midvale (season 3, episode 6)- the Young Kara and Alex episode, featuring actresses who perfectly embody younger versions of Melissa Benoist and Chyler Leigh as they work together to solve a mystery and end up bonding/becoming closer. Always great to watch, also loved Kenny, glad they brought him back post-Crisis.
Falling (season 1, episode 16)- the Red Kryptonite episode, featuring fantastic acting from Melissa and impact for the rest of the season in how it was resolved. I love season 1 and could easily pick any of the episodes from it (Livewire, For the Girl Who Has Everything, Solitude, Human For a Day, Red-Faced, Manhunter, etc.... literally this whole list could be episodes from season 1) but I think this one is the best.
The Adventures of Supergirl (season 2, episode 1)- first of all, named after the great Sterling Gates comic series tying into the show that everyone should read. Second, this episode features the first appearance of Superman properly in this universe, and I loved seeing him and Kara on-screen together. I didn't love Kara randomly breaking up with James in this episode, but I think everything else was very good.
Legion of Super-Heroes/The Bottle Episode (tie, season 3 episode 10 and season 5 episode 10 respectively)- because I couldn't choose! the first one features Brainy's first appearance and him bonding with Kara inside her mind, and the second features him becoming uninhibited and a beautiful scene with him and Kara where she finds out about his painful past and comforts him, leading to the aforementioned becoming uninhibited and getting a new costume/green skin and blond hair as he's supposed to look. I love Brainy, he's (for most part) my favorite character in the series from when he appears onward, and I love how he's established as a character and how he develops/evolves, and these episodes feature both of those things.
The House of L (season 4, episode 16) the "it was Lex Luthor (insert music note emojis) All Along" episode, it's just really well-done and I like all the flashbacks here, Red Daughter as a character was also established well, she gets a lot of great moments and Melissa again was great as this alternate version of Kara. Jon Cryer surprised a lot of people as Lex and while I think he might have appeared too much later on, he's great here too.
Honorable mentions: Again like half of season 1, The Martian Chronicles, City of Lost Children, Resist, a good chunk of season 3, The American Alien, Ahimsa, Bunker Hill, Stand and Deliver, Tremors, Welcome Back, Kara!, Blind Spots

I'd love to know more about your thoughts on 'The Star Beast'!!!
It's kinda hard to give more in-depth thoughts because I just... had a great time? It was a very solid episode that accomplished exactly what it set out to do. Not perfect, sure, and not on the level of something like Midnight or Vincent and the Doctor, but that was never what it was trying to be.
I got more enjoyment analysing the previous era critically than I did from the stories themselves, so I usually had more to say, but here it's the opposite. It was just good fun Doctor Who.

1. I have the So Much For Stardust CD (Fall Out Boy) in my car right now, that's got 13 songs (or 11 since 2 are more poems) can I count all of them. I have been listening to them while I'm driving which is where I mostly listen to music. CDs are so good for driving you just put it in and touch nothing else and it plays every time I turn the engine on without having to keep touching things and plugging things in and it pauses when I switch the engine off and there are still no extra buttons to press and it doesn't need any extra electricity or the internet or phone signal or anything which means it works all the time my car switches on and if my car isn't switching on I have bigger problems than whether the CD player is working or not, CDs are great. I may have got distracted
12. Holiday by Green Day has been stuck in my head today for a reason I do not know but do not mind either
13. Running at the Dark by Tide Lines. They've got a lot of good songs
14. Shout Out to My Ex by Little Mix. This might be Hartley's song on my current writing playlist
15. Heartbeat by Scouting For Girls. It's an easy song to sing along to
Thank you!

For a belated talk shop tuesday - what is it that consistently draws you to Jimmy out of all the Cobras?
Well, part of Jimmy's allure was that he was pretty much a mystery. He only had three lines in the first film, is usually relegated to the background, and has only made one appearance in Cobra Kai. I'm holding out hope for a guest appearance or cameo for the Johnny/Carmen wedding. He is the only brown belt of the group. The most information we got about him was in "Take a Right": that he is married with sons and has a safe, reliable blue car (deleted scene).
I will admit a big part of the allure is Tony O'Dell. I watched nearly everything he was in, no matter how small. Tony is adorkable and a total sweetheart of a man.
When I write Jimmy, he is an amalgamation of the character we see onscreen, Tony, a few of the other characters Tony plays, headcanons, and maybe my ideal guy.
If you need specifics, I can provide them.

2, 3, 12, 15, and 23 for Beth Allen!
2. What’s something about your OC that people wouldn’t expect just from looking at them?
she really does enjoy dressing up and being girly sometimes! she just doesn't think she's very good at it (and besides, Barry's shirts and sweaters are way more comfortable than her own lol)
3. What is your OC’s fatal flaw? Are they aware of this flaw?
Beth has absolutely no self-preservation when it comes to her friends and family, much like Barry, she knows this but she doesn't really care - if someone she loves is in trouble she'll go to any lengths necessary to help them
12. Is your OC self-destructive? In what ways?
I wouldn't say self-destructive but a bit self-sabotaging at times, if she thinks something isn't going to work out she has to talk herself into trying it anyway lest she just forego it entirely
15. Does your OC have a faceclaim? If so, who?
she does! the lovely Emma Watson :)
Tumblr media
23. What emotion is the hardest for your OC to process? How about express?
probably sadness, she tends to skip that and go straight to anger or denial or bargaining instead
