This event will feature photographs taken by Alice Arnold during the early years of Giant Step; a DJ set by DJ Smash + guests; and a panel discussion with Paper Magazine founder, David Hershkovits, Giant Step co-founder and CEO, Maurice Bernstein, Head of Production at Kenzo Digital, Erica Lee Alice Arnold is a documentary media maker and educator who creates, edits, designs and photographs projects that explore the urban environment and visual culture — from street art to advertising and from sidewalks to electric signs. Her films are in the collections of university libraries throughout the United States and have screened at MoMA and other festivals. She is a NYFA Photography Fellow, a Fulbright Fellow in film and an Adjunct Professor at the City University of New York. Monday musical madness. One of my favorite records of all time, is one of the records that got me into #acidjazz in the 90s (these guys were in many ways the original Snarky Puppy, except far more song focused and less showy), and that is the debut record from #GrooveCollective (a stellar live act, a fact which I can confirm by having seen them at the Elbo Room). This album has aged well, do not only impart to the spectacular performance of the band, but the very crisp production by Gary Katz, known best for his work with Steely Dan. #vinyloftheday Various members of the band, have gone on to work with folks like Santana, Elvis Costello, Yuka Honda, Marc Ribot, David Byrne, John Zorn, Charlie Hunter, etc...
