have you seen any luca guadagnino films/any thoughts on him?

i thought bones and all was thematically incoherent and his suspiria remake like, had political commentary ambitions in the first third or so and then had completely dropped them by the end lol. cmbyn sort of works as a coming of age story except that like the other two it really lacks a lot of attention to character writing and psychological depth. i think this makes me sounds like a huge hater, which in this particular case im genuinely not; guadagnino has consistently been easy for me to watch if for no other reason than that his cinematographer(s?) are talented. i don't think every movie needs to be a daring political statement or psychodrama but i do think guadagnino sometimes sets up those genres and then demonstrates no interest in following through on the conceptual work they entail. like he's fine he's kind of slick. it's like the monet water lilies of cinema
