Note
Does your post about wasps and beetles and moths also include guinea worms? Or are we still ok to eradicate those? They evolved specifically to only reproduce by causing painful lesions on human feet, though we've put enough selection pressure on them that they now infect dogs and cats as well.
They are not a major food source for any organism that we know of. They are not a keystone species of any ecosystem. Do they have intrinsic value, so that we should let them live to keep infecting people without access to clean water? They aren't doing anything for the ecosystem.
This is the kind of topic biologists with PhDs spend years writing research papers about, and I don't see you offering any grant money.
Also, I'm not sure if the blog was enough of a clue, but I specialize in Accipitriformes. I'm a really weird person to ask this to. You'd probably be better served asking @bogleech or someone similar.
Final aside... the original post specified pollinators so uh. No? I guess? It would not include this apparently non-pollinator species. No comment on whether I would personally choose to wipe it out because I don't have a god complex, but the post was about an entirely different taxonomic field.

Cool colors in my compost ❤️🤍🤎
Tumblr media
These fruit flies are having a great time snacking and breeding on these rotting tomato butts i regularly get from work that have white mold breaking them down.
Before I rustle with my buckets to aerate them i try to let as many fruit flies escape the bins by tapping the buckets and wafting the air in them so they can fly away to avoid being crushed or injured.
They have fascinating little lives in there. I love to peek inside a bucket to watch the several tens or maybe even a 100 or so of them go at the various fruits and veggie scraps I place in the buckets.
Now that summer has arrived, theyre joined by other critters as well, like house flies, gnats, and now black soldier flies! Even some Guinea paper wasps have set up shop probably to take advantage of easy pickings (them, lol). I'm so happy to see so many critters around!
And im happy to see such cool colors in my compost!

Taken the same day as the previous post, this was a trumpet vine (Campsis radicans). They are native to eastern North America wherever there are swamps, riverbanks, forests, and thickets. They bloom from June-September and are quite popular with the pollinators such as the American bumblebee shown. The Guinea paper wasp isn't really a pollinator, but they do like feeding from fresh trumpet vine buds since they have extra-floral nectaries. Once pollinated, the flower is replaced with a long beanlike seed pod as shown. Once ripened, they disperse 2-winged seeds that are carried by the wind. It should be noted that it's best to grow trumpet vines in eastern North America because outside their native range, they're an invasive species due to their aggressive growth. #plant #plants #vines #vine #wildflowers #wildflower #texasplants #texasplant #txplants #txnature #carpenterbee #paperwasp #bignonias #bigonia #texasnativeplants #texasnature #nature #flora #plantae #angiosperms #vascularplant #tracheophyta #asterids #eudicots #lamiales #bignoniaceae #campsisradicans #campsisradicans #trumpetvine (at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkWxz53K__N/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
